A low tube-to-particle diameter ratio (dt/de,p) fixed bed, packed with spherical and nonspherical catalyst supports, was used to investigate pressure drop at varying temperature (298-673 K) and inlet pressure (245-294 kPa). The dt/de,p ranged from 3 to 6, namely, a large wall-effect fixed bed, with an average void fraction between 0.38 and 0.61. These conditions pertain to multitubular fixed-bed reactors used for exothermic reactions. The pressure drop was notably influenced by the particle size and morphology as well as temperature. The use of particles with dt/de,p < 5 and relatively large bed void fractions (>0.55) appeared suitable for pressure drop control. The fluid velocity profiles were calculated by applying the Navier-Stokes-Darcy-Forchheimer equation computing the respective permeability parameters with refitted state-of-the-art pressure drop correlations. The fluid flow exhibited different velocity zones across the fixed bed, the highest velocity zone being located near the reactor wall. Two hydrotalcite-like compounds (HTs) were synthesized by coprecipitation. The electrochemical behavior of MgZnGa ([Mg 0.58 Zn 0.17Ga 0.25 (OH) 2] (CO 3) 2−0.125 1.5 H 2O) and ZnGaAl ([Zn 0.75Ga 0.19 Al 0.06 (OH) 2] (CO 3) 2−0.125·1.5 H 2O) Hydrotalcite-like compounds (HTs) was studied in NaOH at different concentrations. Voltammetric and chronoamperometric studies were performed to identify oxidation and reduction processes and the effect of the cations in total reactivity. Electrocatalytic effect of HTs on hydroxide electrochemical oxidation shows better performance of MgZnGa; this is apparently due to the presence of Mg and a greater amount of Ga 3+ in the lattice of this HT. As far as reduction is concerned, Zn(II) reduction process is observed within the lattices of both HTs and is influenced by both the amount of OH − in the solution and the potential which the previous oxidation has been performed. Objective:To qualitatively validate radioimmunoassays for 8-isoprostane and prostaglandin (PG) E 2 in exhaled breath condensate. Subjects:Twenty-two subjects with different lung diseases attended the outpatient clinic on one occasion for exhaled breath condensate collection. Methods:Samples were pooled together and purified by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). The eluted fractions were assayed for 8-isoprostane-like immunoreactivity and PGE 2-like immunoreactivity by radioimmunoassays. In addition, simultaneous measurements of exhaled breath condensate unextracted samples with two anti-8-isoprostane and anti-PGE 2 sera with different cross-reactivity were performed. Results:A single peak of 8-isoprostane-like immunoreactivity and PGE 2-like immunoreactivity co-eluting with 8-isoprostane (retention time: 13 min) and PGE 2 (retention time: 21 min) standards, respectively, was identified by radioimmunoassays. Testing with two different antisera showed similar results for both 8-isoprostane-like immunoreactivity (limits of agreement = 4.5 pg/ml and ? 4.1 pg/ml, n = 12) and PGE 2-like immunoreactivity (limits of agreement = 6.1 pg/ ml and ? 6.1 pg/ml, n = 12). Conclusion: This study provides evidence for the specificity of the radioimmunoassays for 8-isoprostane and PGE 2 in exhaled breath condensate. The article describes the case of an eight-year-old girl who presented with a history of erythematous and infiltrated plaques with ill-defined borders on the extensor surface of the extremities. A myopathic pattern with numerous necrotic muscle fibers was shown by a muscle biopsy. These and other findings arrived at the diagnosis of autoimmune necrotizing myopathy.

The phylogenetic distribution of transposable families, P, gypsy, hobo, I, and mariner has been analyzed in 33 species of 11 groups of neotropical Drosophila and a Drosophilidae species Zygotrica vittimaculosa, using squash blot and dot blot. Genomic DNA of almost all neotropical species tested hybridized with gypsy probe and some species showed a particularly strong hybridization signal, as D. gaucha, D. virilis, and species of flavopilosa group. The hobo element was restricted to melanogaster group and some strains of D. willistoni. Only D. simulans DNA showed hybridization to mariner probe in all species tested and D. simulans and D. melanogaster showed hybridization with I element probe. P element homologous sequence was present in D. melanogaster and all species and strains of the willistoni and saltans groups tested. The presence of at least one P-homologous sequence was detected in Drosophila mediopunctata. This one was the only P-bearing species of all six tested from the tripunctata group. Four different pairs of primers homologous to segments of the canonical sequence of D. melanogaster's P were used to amplify specific sequences from D. mediopunctata DNA, showing the occurrence of seemingly well-conserved P-homologous sequences.
