Abstract

The high incidence of bone metastases of urologic neoplasms and their morbidity, especially of vertebral metastases, requires exact diagnosis and consequent therapy. Conventional radiography plays an important role in the diagnosis of symptomatic bone lesions. Computed tomography can evaluate the stability of metastatic lesions and is indispensable for therapy planning. MRI and PET-CT have the highest diagnostic accuracy for the detection of bone metastases and MRI can evaluate their intra- and extraosseus components. PET-CT, PET-MRI, or SPECT-CT in combination with specific tracers - due to their high specificity and sensitivity - have the potential to replace conventional methods in the future. Conservative treatment basically consists of analgesic therapy, the administration of calcium and vitamin D3 and bisphosphonates or inhibitors of RANKL (denosumab). Moreover radium-223-dichloride can improve overall survival and the time to the first symptomatic skeletal event in castration-resistant prostate cancer patients with bone metastases. Abstract

The treatment of bone metastases from urological tumors represents a palliative form of therapy, apart from the resection of solitary metastases from renal cell carcinomas. Due to the high incidence of spinal metastases this can result in clinically significant symptoms and possible complications for patients, such as pain, spinal instability and compression of the spinal canal with corresponding neurological deficits. By the use of targeted diagnostics and induction of radiotherapeutic and/or surgical treatment, for the majority of patients an immediate reduction in pain as well as early mobilization and sometimes even regression of existing neurological deficits and therefore an improved quality of life can be achieved. 8. Real-time clustering for pixel detectors: The DCE3 ASIC for the PXD detector in the Belle II experiment @KEK.

Abstract

In this paper we describe the utilization of a hardware based clustering engine in the data acquisition chain of a particle collider experiment. The data clustering engine (DCE) can execute the clustering task in a pipelined data stream mode with a latency of only one frame by utilization of a software-inspired hardware architecture. The scalable architecture of the clustering core allows a quick adaption of the engine to the specific needs of the target application. Abstract

One of the X-ray imaging detectors in development for the European XFEL (X-ray Free Electron Laser) is the DSSC (DEPFET Sensor with Signal Compression). The DSSC sensor array will have a format of 1024 × 1024 pixels with a pixel size in the order of 200 µm. It is optimized for the detection of low-energy X-ray photons and designed to operate at frame rates up to 4.5 MHz with a dynamic range of several thousand photons per pixel and frame and single photon resolution at small photon numbers. The DSSC system's core component is an active pixel sensor based on the DEPFET (DEpleted P-channel Field Effect Transistor) structure. A DEPFET is an integrated detector-amplifier combining internal amplification, full sensitivity over the whole bulk thickness, analog data storage, readout on demand, low serial noise, and absence of reset noise. For the DSSC-adaptation of the DEPFET principle the new feature of signal compression has been added, i.e. the device has a high gain at small signals and a reduced gain at large signals. With this strongly non-linear response the DSSC-DEPFET provides the required high charge handling capacity with simultaneous single photon resolution for low-energy X-rays. Abstract

The e+e- linear collider physics program sets highly demanding requirements on the accurate determination of charged particle trajectories close to the interaction point. A new generation of depleted field effect transistor active pixel sensors with 25 μm pixel size is currently being developed to meet the requirements in the point measurement resolution and multiple track separation. To minimize the influence of the multiple scattering on the impact parameter resolution, the sensors have to be made as thin as possible. This paper presents a technology based on direct wafer bonding and deep anisotropic etching for the production of ultra-thin fully depleted sensors with electrically active back side. PiN diodes with 50 μm thickness have been produced in this way and the results show the feasibility of this approach. The technology is useful for the production of any kind of thin sensors with active back side (strip detectors, pad detectors, etc.).
