Abstract

By the transesterification approach in the presence of a catalyst and alcohol, renewable alternative fuel was created from waste oils in this study. In line with ASTM, the significant features of the manufactured biodiesel were investigated. It was possible to buy gasoline blends like D100B0 (100% diesel), D80B20 (20% biodiesel), D 70B30 (30% biodiesel), D60B40 (40% biodiesel), D50B50 (50% biodiesel) and B100 (100% diesel). The results showed that B20 had a slight difference in viscosity, density, and calorific value when associated to diesel energy. Overall, the B20 blend had more favorable characteristics, and it may be suggested as a gifted renewable substitute to diesel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

In the present study, the overall characteristics of CI engine are assessed when it is fuelled with low-density ethanol and diesel blends. The percentages of ethanol mixed with DF are 5, 10, 15 and 20%, respectively. Four fuel blends, namely E5DF95, E10DF90, E15DF85 and E20DF80, were prepared, tested and compared in a bench-scale VCR DI-CI engine. Experiment trials are conducted for different engine loads and at four different CRs (15.5, 16.5, 17.5, and 18.5). It is identified that when the CR is increased from 15.5 to 18.5, all the blend samples displayed significant reduction in BTE. The highest BTE was consistently given by E5DF95, while that of the lowest was always provided by E20DF80. Significant changes are noticed in smoke emission for all the fuel blends. The highest smoke emission was 2.17 BSN given by E0DF100 at CR 15.5, while the lowest smoke emission was 1.2 BSN provided by E20DF80 at CR 18.5. Authors believe that the experimental protocol and results presented in the present work will be a paradigm for the researchers working in the field of IC engines and alternate fuels.
