Background and Objectives: The present study was conducted by the aim of predicting the role of religiosity in job stress and marital conflict among married nurses of medical education centers in Hamedan. Methods: The present research is a descriptive-analytic one. The population of the research included all the married nurses in medical education centers in Hamedan at 2014-2015, which were over 270 individual. 155 individuals were selected through available sampling method. Data gathering was done by using Osipow Job Stress Questionnaire, Sanaee Marital Conflict Questionnaire and Religiosity Questionnaire of Glock and Stark. For analyzing the data, statistical tests of Pearson Correlation and step-by-step multivariate regression were used, and data analysis was conducted by SPSS18. Results: Results of Pearson correlation indicated that there is a significant and negative correlation between religiosity and its components with job stress and marital conflict among nurses. Step-by-step regression analysis showed that religiosity can predict job stress and marital conflict among nurses. Also, among the components of religiosity, two components of consequences and belief could predict job stress by 0.24% and two components of affective and consequences could predict marital conflict by 0.21%. Conclusion: Since religiosity plays a determining role in job stress and marital conflict, providing some educations in the field of religious teachings can be considerably effective for this group of society. Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the possible protective effect of ellagic acid ( EA) against gentamicin ( GEN)-induced nephrotoxicity using biochemical, molecular and histopathological approaches. Methods Rats ( n = 24) were divided into four groups: control, GEN (100 mg/kg, i.p.), EA (10 mg/kg, p.o.) and GEN plus EA. The regimes were administered for 10 successive days. 24 h after last treatment, kidney and blood samples were collected. Key findings Ellagic acid treatment significantly reduced plasma creatinine and urea levels, which were initially increased due to GEN administration. Also, EA significantly ameliorated oxidative stress markers including lipid peroxidation, catalase ( CAT) and superoxide dismutase ( SOD) enzyme activity as well as glutathione ( GSH) content in kidney tissue. Activation of caspase-3 and increase in the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax expression observed in GEN-treated group were significantly ameliorated by EA treatment. EA also protected GEN-induced mitochondrial damages as indicated by decreasing the mitochondrial ROS content, preventing of mitochondrial membrane potential ( MMP) loss, reducing mitochondrial swelling and decreasing cytochrome c release. In addition, histopathological findings revealed that EA ameliorates GEN-induced kidney injury. Conclusions Our findings suggest that EA treatment attenuates GEN-induced nephrotoxicity, which may be ascribed to its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We herein present the case of an immunocompromised patient with brain tuberculomas who developed ventriculitis during treatment. Background: Present meta-analysis was aimed to compare the resting energy expenditure (REE) and body composition in hypothyroid subjects with low-normal or high-normal Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) levels. Methods: Three databases (PubMed, Scopus and google scholar) were searched to identify eligible studies that evaluated the association between TSH levels within reference ranges with REE and body composition up to August 2021 with no limitation in time. The methodological quality of included studies was assessed using Newcastle-Ottawa scale. Weighted mean differences (WMDs) of REE and body composition were calculated using a random-effects model. Results: Four studies fulfilled inclusion criteria for meta-analysis, yielding a total of 353 people (212 low-normal and 141 high-normal subjects). The pooled effect size failed to find any significant association between Body Mass Index (BMI) [WMD: -0.88 kg/m2; 95% CI: -2.65, 0.89; P=0.33], REE [WMD: -3.98 kcal/day; 95% CI: -53.14, 45.17; P=0.87], REE/FFM [WMD: -0.01 kcal/kg/day; 95% CI: -0.64, 0.61; P=0.96], Lean Body Mass (LBM) [WMD: -0.35 kg; 95% CI: -2.38, 1.68; P=0.73], Fat Mass (FM) [WMD: -0.49 kg; 95% CI: -4.27, 3.29; P=0.80] and Percentage of FM [WMD: -0.13 percentage; 95% CI: -1.62, 1.37; P=0.86] with TSH levels. Conclusion: Despite recent trends toward keeping TSH levels in low-normal range to achieve better clinical outcomes, higher REE and change in body composition, the results of this meta-analysis showed no substantial clinical evidence based on maintaining TSH levels in a low-normal range.
