The massive binary HDE 228766 is composed of an O type primary and an evolved secondary. However, previous qualitative analyses of the composite spectrum have led to a wide discussion about whether the secondary is an Of or a Wolf–Rayet star. We use new observations and our novel QER20 package to disentangle for the first time the spectra of the two stellar components and obtain artefact |$-$| free reconstructed spectra, yielding the more accurate and reliable spectral classifications of O7.5 V((f))z for the primary and O6 Iaf for the secondary. The emission features of the P |$-$| Cygni profiles of the H  |$\beta$| and He i 5876 Å lines, present in the reconstructed spectrum of the secondary, show that this star is at an initial phase of its transition to the WN evolutionary stage. A previously unobserved variable emission, composed of at least four independent features, is seen since 2014 superposed to the H  |$\gamma$| absorption line. Our analysis reveals that these emission features originate from a physically extended region. This could be explained by an episode of enhanced mass-loss in the scenario of a non |$-$| conservative evolution of the binary. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The determination of the state of health of batteries is a necessary parameter for planning the acquisition of new units in storage systems for energy support. Currently, there are many investigations focused on determining the of the state of health of batteries of different types of batteries, as well as their useful life. However, none have analysed the of the state of health of batteries by changes in the transmittance of the electrolyte for a specific frequency, as proposed in this article. The project from which this article derives considered different health states of lead-acid batteries. The percentage of optical transmittance of the four central cells of the battery was analyzed, generating a classification pattern that allowed the approximate value of battery health to be obtained from the transmittance. The variation of the battery electrode is verified according to the changes in the state of health measured in the electrolyte. This method can be applied to batteries online. The proposed method for determining battery health is a non-destructive and cost-effective way to assess the remaining capacity of batteries. It could be used to extend the lifetime of batteries in storage systems and to help to ensure that systems have the capacity to meet energy demands. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Given the rise of satellite television, radio telescopes in the Ku‐band (12–18 GHz) constitute a potential alternative to introduce low‐scale astronomical observatories and amateur astronomers to radio astronomy. In this paper, we show a methodology for the calibration of Ku‐band radio telescopes and the evaluation of the techniques used for the observation of celestial bodies in this frequency range. To reduce the pointing error, we present a method of observation through matrix windows around the Sun. By observing the solar transits, our methodology allows to determine the system temperature, the beamwidth, the gain, the effective area, and the efficiency of the radio telescope. In addition, we developed the Compact Radio Telescope (CRT) software, designed to perform the calibration, and carry out observations. We tested our methodology with the Ku‐band radio telescope of the Observatorio Astronómico of the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira (OAUTP), Colombia. After observing the Sun and the Moon, we obtained a brightness temperature of 8,600 ± 800 K and 240 ± 50 K, and radiation fluxes of 2,970,000 ± 690,000 Jy and 55,000 ± 10,000 Jy, respectively. These observations demonstrated the usefulness of our methodology and CRT software in the calibration of compact Ku‐band radio telescopes for the observation of celestial bodies in radio waves. This article determines the internal parameters of a battery analyzed from its circuit equivalent, reviewing important information that can help to identify the battery’s state of charge (SOC) and its state of health (SOH). Although models that allow the dynamics of different types of batteries to be identified have been developed, few have defined the lead-acid battery model from the analysis of a filtered signal by applying a Kalman filter, particularly taking into account the measurement of noise not just at signal output but also at its input (this is a novelty raised from the experimental). This study proposes a model for lead-acid batteries using tools such as MATLAB® and Simulink®. First, a method of filtering the input and output signal is presented, and then a method for identifying parameters from 29 charge states is used for a leadacid battery. Different SOCs are related to different values of open circuit voltage (OCV). Ultimately, improvements in model estimation are shown using a filter that considers system and sensor noise since the modeled and filtered signal is closer to the original signal than the unfiltered modeled signal. Disentangling techniques are often needed to obtain the spectra of the individual components of binary or multiple systems. A thorough analysis of the shift‐and‐add algorithm of Marchenko et al, PASP, 1999;110:1416 reveals that, in many cases, the line fluxes are poorly reproduced, and spurious wings appear. The causes of these discrepancies are discussed, and a new disentangling package, QER20, is presented, which significantly reduces these errors and vastly increases the performance. When applied to the massive binary 9 Sgr, our new code yields line fluxes that are notably different from those previously published and lead us to revise the spectral classification to slightly earlier subtypes: O 3 V ((f +)) for the primary and O 5 V ((f)) for the secondary. We show that, with the MME98 algorithm, the classification of massive stars in binaries can be off by several subtypes, while there are no such errors when the QER20 package is used. In the work described here, two techniques for the recovery of anthocyanins from potato peel were studied and compared. One of the techniques employed was supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) with pure CO2 or with CO2 and ethanol as cosolvent and the other technique was pressurized liquid extraction (PLE), where the solvent used was ethanol in water acidified to pH 2.6. The effects of pressure and temperature were studied and the anthocyanin contents obtained were statistically analyzed. In SFE the use of low pressure (100 bar) and high temperature (65 °C) was desirable for the anthocyanin extraction. With PLE the anthocyanin contents are increased considerably, and the best yields were obtained at 100 bar and 80 °C. This result is in correspondence with antioxidant activity index values (1.66) obtained in a DPPH antioxidant activity assay. In the extracts obtained with PLE the phenolic compounds were also determined, but the main compounds presented in the extract are anthocyanins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
