Background: The long-term goal of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is to prevent secondary osteoarthritis due to instability. Obesity itself is also a risk factor for osteoarthritis and shows an increase in its incidence, but little is known about the relationship between obesity and the outcome of ACL reconstruction. Purpose/Hypothesis: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the outcome of ACL reconstruction and obesity. It was hypothesized that obesity would be associated with the revision rate of ACL reconstruction and additional surgical treatment for osteoarthritis in patients who undergo ACL reconstruction. Study design: Cohort study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: Claims and health screening data of the National Health Insurance Service were used to analyze patients who underwent ACL reconstruction between January 1, 2003, and December 31, 2021. The association between obesity and risk of revision ACL reconstruction and additional surgical treatment for osteoarthritis or meniscal lesion was analyzed. Body mass index (BMI) was used to classify patients as underweight (BMI, <18.5), normal weight (BMI, 18.5-24.9), overweight (BMI, 25.0-29.9), obese (BMI, 30.0-39.9), or morbidly obese (BMI, ≥40.0). Multivariable Cox proportional hazards model analysis was conducted. Results: A total of 56,734 patients were included. Of them, 311 (0.5%) patients were underweight, 26,613 (46.9%) were normal weight, 24,372 (43.0%) were overweight, 5324 (9.4%) were obese, and 114 (0.2%) patients were morbidly obese. The underweight group showed a significantly lower risk of revision ACL reconstruction than the normal weight group (hazard ratio [HR], 0.54; 95% CI, 0.31-0.93; P =.0273). However, the overweight, obese, and morbidly obese groups had no significant difference from the normal weight group. The risk of high tibial osteotomy (HTO) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA) was significantly high for the overweight (HR, 1.93; 95% CI, 1.70-2.19; P <.0001) and obese (HR, 2.71; 95% CI, 2.23-3.30; P <.0001) groups. Subgroup analysis performed in patients ≥40 years of age for the risk of HTO showed a significant increased risk in the overweight group (HR, 1.889; 95% CI, 1.56-2.29; P <.0001) and obese group (HR, 2.78; 95% CI, 2.10-3.69; P <.0001). Subgroup analysis performed in patients ≥50 years of age for the risk of TKA also showed a significant increased risk in the overweight group (HR, 2.03; 95% CI, 1.67-2.47; P <.0001) and obese group (HR, 2.53; 95% CI, 1.83-3.50; P <.0001). After adjusting for meniscal injury at index surgery by multivariate regression analysis, 1.87- and 2.75-fold increased risks of HTO were identified for the overweight and obese groups, respectively, for patients aged >40 years. For patients aged >50 years, 2.02-fold and 2.52-fold increased risks of TKA were observed for the overweight and obese groups, respectively. The risk of additional surgery due to the meniscal lesion was high for the overweight (HR, 1.09; 95% CI, 1.03-1.15; P =.002) and obese (HR, 1.10; 95% CI, 1.01-1.21; P =.0351) groups, while no significant difference was found for the underweight and morbidly obese groups. Conclusion: This study highlights that obesity does not increase the revision rate of ACL reconstruction. However, the risk of additional surgical treatment for osteoarthritis and meniscal lesions increased as BMI increased. Lithium batteries with solid-state electrolytes are an appealing alternative to state-of-the-art non-aqueous lithium-ion batteries with liquid electrolytes because of safety and energy aspects. However, engineering development at the cell level for lithium batteries with solid-state electrolytes is limited. Here, to advance this aspect and produce high-energy lithium cells, we introduce a cell design based on advanced parametrization of microstructural and architectural parameters of electrode and electrolyte components. To validate the cell design proposed, we assemble and test (applying a stack pressure of 3.74 MPa at 45 °C) 10-layer and 4-layer solid-state lithium pouch cells with a solid polymer electrolyte, resulting in an initial specific energy of 280 Wh kg−1 (corresponding to an energy density of 600 Wh L−1) and 310 Wh kg−1 (corresponding to an energy density of 650 Wh L−1) respectively. Multiscale design principles and empirical processing techniques are considered for the design of high-energy-density Li-based batteries using polymer electrolytes. Owing to climate change, abnormal climate phenomena occur frequently, damaging aging highway facilities. Therefore, it is necessary to develop adaptation projects for highway systems. Adaptation projects focus on mitigating the impact of climate change on highway facilities and enabling safe use. The present study aims to develop quantified evaluation indicators that are necessary for planning and selecting appropriate climate change adaptation projects. By analysing previous studies, the most important factors to be considered in the evaluation process of climate change adaptation projects were defined, and 20 preliminary evaluation indicators were divided into three layers. A feasibility study for each class was performed on the preliminary evaluation indicators by an expert panel; 16 evaluation indicators were selected through a feasibility study, and the weight of each indicator was calculated using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) method. The priority of the evaluation indicators was service improvement through adaptation projects (weight 8.76), cost reduction and job creation (weight 8.46), and climate change impact reduction and vulnerability reduction (weight 8.31). This study examined the effects of increasing concrete unit water content and artificially controlling water content on concrete performance in the production process of ready-mixed concrete. Results showed that changes in the unit water content of 20 concrete mix proportions without air-entraining significantly reduced concrete compressive strength, increased porosity, and in-creased occurrence of bleeding. A unit water content increase of 25 kg/m3 or more may reduce the compressive strength of concrete below the design standard and significantly affect the occurrence of bleeding water. Moreover, an extra unit water content of at least 25 kg/m3 could significantly affect the diffusion of chloride ions in the concrete. The carbonation depth of concrete was extremely high with the increase in unit water content and water addition. In the production of concrete requiring at least normal strength or durability, the extra water change to total unit water content should be maintained at 15 kg/m3 or less. And a water–cement ratio of 48% or less and a unit water content of 155 kg/m3 or less are considered effective for management of concrete quality. Simultaneous monitoring of electrophysiology and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) could guide the innovative diagnosis and treatment of various neurodegenerative diseases that are previously impossible. However, this technique is difficult because the existing metal‐based implantable neural interface for electrophysiology is not free from signal distortions from its intrinsic magnetic susceptibility while performing an MRI of the implanted area of the neural interface. Moreover, brain tissue heating from neural implants generated by the radiofrequency field from MRI poses potential hazards for patients. Previous studies with soft polymer‐based electrode arrays provide relatively suitable MRI compatibility but does not guarantee high‐resolution electrophysiological signal acquisition and stimulation performance. Here, MRI compatible, optically transparent flexible implantable device capable of electrophysiological multichannel mapping and electrical stimulation is introduced. Using the device, neuropathic pain (NP) relief with a 30‐channel electrophysiological mapping of the somatosensory area before and after motor cortex stimulation (MCS) in allodynia rats after noxious stimulation is confirmed. Additionally, artifact‐free manganese‐enhanced MRI of dramatic relief of pain‐related region activity by MCS is demonstrated. Furthermore, artifact‐free optogenetics with transgenic mice is also investigated by recording light‐evoked potentials. Introduction: Early diagnosis and aggressive treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE) are crucial for preventing severe complications after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to examine the efficacy of measuring oxygen saturation (SpO2) using a pulse oximeter for early diagnosis of PE after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Materials and methods: We consecutively examined 1645 patients who underwent TKA between January 2015 and November 2019. Postoperative SpO2 was measured with a pulse oximeter, which was stopped if SpO2 was maintained at ≥ 95% until postoperative day 2 (POD2). To diagnose PE, computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) was performed for specific indications, including persistently low SpO2 < 95% (group 1), sudden decrease in SpO2 (group 2), and decrease in SpO2 after POD3 with presenting symptoms (group 3). Also, we divided the patients into unilateral, simultaneous and sequential TKA groups and compared the results with specific statistical techniques. Results: Of the 1645 patients who underwent TKA, there were 20 patients with PE (1.2%), and symptomatic PE was observed in only 4 patients (0.24%). CTPA was performed in 58 (3.5%) patients, of whom 20 were diagnosed with PE. In groups 1 (n = 34), 2 (n = 21), and 3 (n = 3), CTPA was performed 2.4, 2.6, and 8.3 days after TKA, respectively, and 12, 8, and 0 patients were diagnosed with PE, respectively. Of the 782, 416, and 447 unilateral, simultaneous, and sequential (done in same admission with interval 1 or 2 weeks) patients with TKA, 38, 18, and 2 received CTPA, and 13, 6, and 1 were diagnosed with PE, respectively. All patients diagnosed with PE have persistently low SpO2 < 95% (group 1), or sudden decrease in SpO2 (group 2) until POD2. Of the patients diagnosed with PE, SpO2 decreased without the presentation of symptoms in 16 patients (11 and 5 from groups 1 and 2, respectively) and with the presentation of symptoms, such as mild dyspnea and chest discomfort, in 4 patients (1 and 3 from groups 1 and 2, respectively). Conclusions: Measuring SpO2 using a pulse oximeter until POD2 was an effective method for early diagnosis of PE after TKA. No case of morbidity or mortality was observed after early diagnosis with early stage CTPA and management of PE. We recommend measuring SpO2 with a pulse oximeter for early diagnosing of PE in TKA. Electric double-layer capacitors have attracted considerable attention for energy storage because of their excellent power capability, high stability, and long cycle life. Activated carbon is the most widely employed electrode material for electric double-layer capacitors owing to its high specific surface area, hierarchical porous structure, and high electrical conductivity. However, to increase the energy density of the devices, new synthetic methods for enhancing their specific capacitances are required. We developed a facile preparation method for petroleum pitch-based activated carbon and investigated the optimal conditions to improve its electrochemical performance in terms of rate capability, specific capacitance, and cycle life. The obtained activated carbon exhibited a high specific capacitance (163.67 F/g at 0.1 A/g), which can be attributed to the efficient charge transport due to the micropores developed in the open macroporous walls of the carbon structure and the high electrical conductivity. Our approach provides an efficient strategy for synthesizing activated carbon with excellent properties. Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) remains among the most challenging and costly complications. PJI rates vary from 0.39% to 3.9% after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This study aimed to identify the causative microorganisms involved and to report our experience of subsequent treatment of PJI following over 7000 TKAs performed over 19 years. A retrospective study was conducted on 4547 patients (7019 cases) from March 2000 to September 2019. The incidence rate of PJI was 0.5%. Gram-positive bacteria accounted for 88.8% (n = 16) of the 18 cases, and S. aureus was the most commonly isolated pathogen (n = 7, 38.8%). There were six cases of MSSA and one case of MRSA. Streptococcus species (n = 7, 38.8%) also showed the same pattern. The CoNS species (n = 2, 11.1%) and Gram-negative bacteria (n = 1, 5.5%) were also reported. Candida species were isolated from 1 patient (5.5%). Successful I&D and implant retention (DAIR procedures) was achieved at the final follow-up in 19 patients (82.6%). The incidence of causative microorganisms was different for each PJI onset type. The overall infection rate of PJI was less than 1%. Although the success rate of DAIR procedures is lower than the two-stage exchange arthroplasty in this study, it is possible to achieve acceptable success rates if DAIR procedures are carefully selected considering the virulence of the microorganism, duration since symptom onset, and early-onset infection. Background: Microfracture is the first-line treatment for cartilage defects; however, the suboptimal quality of the repaired cartilage remains an issue. Purpose/Hypothesis: The aim of this first in-human study was to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of a combination of particulated costal allocartilage and microfracture versus microfracture alone in treating knee cartilage defects. We hypothesized that the particulated costal allocartilage with microfracture would result in superior cartilage repair quality and better clinical outcomes at 48 weeks postoperatively. Study Design: Randomized controlled trial; Level of evidence, 1. Methods: Patients with cartilage defects were allocated randomly to the treatment group (particulated costal allocartilage with microfracture) and control group (microfracture alone). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) outcomes of cartilage repair (the primary outcome measure) were evaluated at the 48-week follow-up using the Magnetic Resonance Observation of Cartilage Repair Tissue (MOCART) score. Patient-reported clinical outcomes (visual analog scale [VAS] pain score, Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score [KOOS], and International Knee Documentation Committee score) and adverse events were evaluated at 12, 24, and 48 weeks postoperatively. Results: Overall, 88 patients were included (44 patients each in the treatment and control groups). The total MOCART score at 48 weeks postoperatively was significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group (P <.001). Among the 9 MOCART variables, 6 were significantly superior in the treatment versus the control group: degree of repair and defect filling (P <.001), integration to the border zone (P <.001), surface (P =.006), structure (P =.011), signal intensity of the repair tissue (P <.001), and subchondral lamina (P =.005). There were significant between-group differences in KOOS-Pain (P =.014), KOOS-Activities of Daily Living (P =.010), KOOS-Sports (P =.029), and KOOS-Symptoms (P =.039) at 12 weeks postoperatively and in VAS pain (P =.012) and KOOS-Pain (P =.005) at 24 weeks postoperatively. At 48 weeks postoperatively, clinical outcomes were comparable between the groups. Conclusion: Microfracture augmented with particulated costal allocartilage resulted in superior cartilage repair quality compared with microfracture alone in terms of MRI evaluation of the knee joint cartilage defect at the 48-week follow-up. The ever‐increasing popularity of smart electronics demands advanced Li‐ion batteries capable of charging faster and storing more energy, which in turn stimulates the innovation of electrode additives. Developing single‐phase conductive networks featuring excellent mechanical strength/integrity coupled with efficient electron transport and durability at high‐voltage operation should maximize the rate capability and energy density, however, this has proven to be quite challenging. Herein, it is shown that a 2D titanium carbide (known as MXene) metallic membrane can be used as single‐phase interconnected conductive binder for commercial Li‐ion battery anode (i.e., Li4Ti5O12) and high‐voltage cathodes (i.e., Ni0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2). Electrodes are fabricated directly by slurry‐casting of MXene aqueous inks composited with active materials without any other additives or solvents. The interconnected metallic MXene membrane ensures fast charge transport and provides good durability, demonstrating excellent rate performance in the Li//Li4Ti5O12 cell (90 mAh g−1 at 45 C) and high reversible capacity (154 mAh g−1 at 0.2 C/0.5 C) in Li//Ni0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 cell coupled with high‐voltage operation (4.3 V vs Li/Li+). The LTO//NMC full cell demonstrates promising cycling stability, maintaining capacity retention of 101.4% after 200 cycles at 4.25 V (vs Li/Li+) operation. Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is one of the main complications of liver cirrhosis (LC) and is classified into minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) and overt hepatic encephalopathy (overt HE). S100B is expressed mainly in astrocytes and other glial cells, and S100B has been reported to be associated with various neurological disorders. The present study aimed to investigate the diagnostic ability of serum S100B to discriminate the grade of HE and the parameters correlated with serum S100B levels. Additionally, we investigated whether serum S100B levels can be used to predict 1-year mortality in cirrhotic patients. In total, 95 cirrhotic patients were consecutively enrolled and divided into the following three groups: (i) without any types of HEs; (ii) with MHE; and (iii) with overt HE. The diagnosis of MHE was made by the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) and Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score (PHES). Among the three groups, there were no significant differences in serum S100B levels regardless of HE severity. The clinical parameters correlated with serum S100B levels were age, serum bilirubin, and creatinine levels. The Model for End-Stage Liver Disease (MELD) score showed a significant positive correlation with serum S100B levels. The relationship between serum S100B levels and MELD score was maintained in 48 patients without any type of HE. Additionally, hyperammonemia, low cholesterol levels, and the combination of serum S100B levels ≥ 35 pg/mL with MELD score ≥ 13 were factors for predicting 1- year mortality. In conclusion, serum S100B level was not useful for differentiating the severity of HE. However, we found that serum S100B levels can be affected by age, serum bilirubin, and creatinine in cirrhotic patients and are associated with MELD scores. Additionally, serum S100B levels showed the possibility of predicting 1-year mortality in cirrhotic patients. Background: In this era of growing popularity of cosmetic surgeries, more women of various chest wall shapes are likely to receive augmentation mammoplasty. Pectus excavatum (PE) and pectus carinatum (PC) are the two most common chest wall deformities, and many asymptomatic patients visit the clinic. In this study, we presented various strategies for successfully performing breast augmentation in PE and PC patients without long-term complications such as symmastia. Methods: From January of 2019 to December of 2021, a total of 132 patients with tendencies of PE and PC received augmentation mammoplasty in our institute. We retrospectively reviewed data on demographics, surgical procedure, outcomes, and complications. Results: Among the 132 cases, 71.21% were done via inframammary approach, and 28.79% via transaxillary approach. The mean implant volume was 337.25 ± 51.46 ml, and the mean follow-up period was 16.48 ± 6.74 months. The Likert scale of outcome satisfaction scored 9.13 ± 0.48. No symmastia occurred. Conclusion: We presented our basic strategies of breast surgery in patients with various chest wall anomalies. Augmentation mammoplasty can benefit PE and PC patients physically as well as psychologically, to carry out healthy positive lives. Challenges in the understanding of three-dimensional (3D) brain networks by simultaneously recording both surface and intracortical areas of brain signals remain due to the difficulties of constructing mechanical design and spatial limitations of the implanted sites. Here, we present a foldable and flexible 3D neural prosthetic that facilitates the 3D mapping of complex neural circuits with high spatiotemporal dynamics from the intracortical to cortical region. This device is the tool to map the 3D neural transmission through sophisticatedly designed four flexible penetrating shanks and surface electrode arrays in one integrated system. We demonstrate the potential possibilities of identifying correlations of neural activities from the intracortical area to cortical regions through continuous monitoring of electrophysiological signals. We also exploited the structural properties of the device to record synchronized signals of single spikes evoked by unidirectional total whisker stimulation. The platelet-to-white blood cell ratio (PWR) has been reported to predict the severity of patients with various diseases. However, no previous studies have assessed the use of the PWR as a prognostic marker for pyogenic liver abscesses (PLA). This observational retrospective study was performed between January 2008 and December 2017, including 833 patients with PLA from multiple centers. The enrolled patients, on average, had a PWR of 17.05, and 416 patients had a PWR lower than 17.05. A total of 260 patients (31.2%) with PLA showed complications of metastatic infection, pleural effusion and abscess rupture. A low PWR level was identified as a strong risk factor for metastatic infection and pleural effusion. The low PWR group also had a longer hospital stay. In the multivariate analysis, old age, anemia, albumin and CRP levels and unidentified pathogens were significant factors for low PWR levels. A low PWR, old age, male sex, abscess size, albumin, ALP and unidentified causative pathogens showed significant associations with a hospital stay longer than 28 days. As a result, PLA patients presenting with a low PWR were shown to have more complications and a poor prognosis. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors for mortality of septic knee arthritis in Korea through a large nationwide data research. The National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening database was used to analyze 89,120 hospitalizations for septic knee arthritis between 2005 and 2018. In-hospital, thirty-day, and ninety-day mortality, and their association with patient's demographic factors, various comorbidities (i.e., cerebrovascular disease, congestive heart failure, and myocardial infarction) and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) were assessed. Secondary outcomes of complications (osteomyelitis, knee arthroplasty, recurrence) were analyzed. The number of hospitalization with septic knee arthritis increased from 1847 cases in 2005 to 8749 cases in 2018. There was no significant difference in mortality after diagnosis of septic knee arthritis between years. The risk of mortality in patients who hospitalized with septic knee arthritis increased in comorbidities like Congestive heart failure, dementia, myocardial infarction, chronic kidney disease. Hazard ratio (HR) decreased in patients who have comorbidities such as rheumatoid arthritis, liver disease, rheumatologic disease. HR for mortality in septic knee arthritis increased in patients with CCI more than 1. The risk factors for mortality in all periods were male sex, old age, high CCI, comorbidities such as congestive heart failure, dementia, myocardial infarction, chronic kidney disease. Cholangiopathies encompass various biliary diseases affecting the biliary epithelium, resulting in cholestasis, inflammation, fibrosis, and ultimately liver cirrhosis. Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) are the most important progressive cholangiopathies in adults. Much research has broadened the scope of disease biology to genetic risk, epigenetic changes, dysregulated mucosal immunity, altered biliary epithelial cell function, and dysbiosis, all of which interact and arise in the context of ill-defined environmental triggers. An in-depth understanding of the molecular pathogenesis of these cholestatic diseases will help clinicians better prevent and treat diseases. Transparent implantable devices have received significant attention in neuroscience and biomedical engineering by combining neural recording and optical modalities. Opaque, metal‐based electrode arrays for electrophysiology block optical imaging and cause photoelectric artifacts, making them difficult to integrate with optogenetics. Here, a photoelectric artifact‐free, highly conductive, and transparent poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene) polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) electrode array is introduced as promising neural implants. The technology which is developed in this work provides transparent neural interfaces through low‐cost, ultra‐facile method compared with other transparent materials being applied to implantable tools. The device exhibits superior optical, mechanical, and electrical characteristics to other studies, thanks to a simple ethylene glycol immersing process. The device performance is highlighted by comparing its light stimulation efficiency and photoelectric artifact extent with conventional thin gold electrodes both in vitro and in vivo. This note presents the restricted divisor functions and describes the amicable pairs and their iterations and the iterated stable numbers derived from these new functions. These arithmetic functions are related to (2)‐type Mersenne primes 2p − 1, (2, 3)‐type Mersenne primes 2i · 3j − 1 and multiperfect numbers. Using Mathematica 11.2, we have tabulated all iterated stable numbers and iterated amicable pairs up to 220. We establish several interesting arithmetical properties of the iterated restricted divisor functions. The tables obtained suggested many open problems on iterated stable numbers, and iterated amicable pairs from iteration of the restricted divisor functions, some of which are proven here. This study aimed to analyze the rates and risk factors of postoperative mortality among 560,954 patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in Korea. The National Health Insurance Service-Health Screening database was used to analyze 560,954 patients who underwent TKA between 2005 and 2018. In-hospital, ninety-day, and one-year postoperative mortality, and their association with patient's demographic factors and various comorbidities (ie., cerebrovascular disease, congestive heart failure, and myocardial infarction) were assessed. In-hospital, ninety-day and one-year mortality rates after TKA were similar from 2005 to 2018. The risk of in-hospital mortality increased with comorbidities like cerebrovascular disease (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.401; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.064–1.844), congestive heart failure (HR = 2.004; 95% CI = 1.394 to 2.881), myocardial infarction (HR = 2.111; 95% CI = 1.115 to 3.998), and renal disease (HR = 2.641; 95% CI = 1.348–5.173). These co-morbidities were also independent predictors of ninety-day and one-year mortality. Male sex and old age were independent predictors for ninety-day and one-year mortality. And malignancy was risk factor for one-year mortality. The common preoperative risk factors for mortality in all periods were male sex, old age, cerebrovascular disease, congestive heart failure, myocardial infarction, and renal disease. Increasing the energy density of lithium‐ion batteries requires the discovery of new electrode materials capable of achieving very high areal capacity. Here, liquid phase exfoliation is used to produce nanosheets of SnP3, a 2D material with extremely high theoretical capacity of 1670 mAh g−1. These nanosheets can be fabricated into solution‐processed thin films for use as lithium storing anodes. To maximize their performance, carbon nanotubes are incorporated into the electrodes to simultaneously enhance conductivity and toughness. As a result, electrodes of thickness >300 µm can be produced, which display active‐mass‐normalized capacities (≈1657 mAh g−1Active) very close to the theoretical value. These materials show maximum specific (≈1250 mAh g−1Electrode) and areal (>20 mAh cm−2) capacities, which are at the state‐of‐the‐art for 2D‐based electrodes, coupled with good rate performance and stability. Objective: The interrelation and clinical utility of the parameters for superior migration of the humeral head, such as the acromiohumeral interval (AHI), inferior glenohumeral distance (IGHD), and upward migration index (UMI), in the management of massive rotator cuff tears are not clear. The objectives of this study were to identify the relation between AHI, IGHD, and UMI when measured with radiography and MRI and to determine whether superior migration can predict the irreparability of massive rotator cuff tears. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the files of 64 consecutive patients who underwent arthroscopic partial or complete repair for massive rotator cuff tears at our institution between August 2015 and August 2018. We recorded both radiography and MRI measurements of AHI, IGHD, and UMI, and further the tangent sign, fatty infiltration of the rotator cuff muscles, and the Patte grade. We performed correlation assessments and multiple logistic regression analysis to identify potential predictors of the reparability of massive rotator cuff tears. Results: Thirty-five patients had partially reparable and 29 had completely reparable tears. Parameters measured with either radiography or MRI were highly correlated with each other. The radiographic measurements showed a moderate or low correlation with the MRI measurements. All parameters of superior migration of the humeral head on radiography and MRI, the tangent sign, fatty infiltration of the infraspinatus muscle, and the Patte grade showed significant differences between patients with partially and completely repaired tears. Among these, the independent predictors for irreparability was Patte grade = 3. Conclusion: The AHI, IGHD, and UMI were highly correlated when measured with either radiography or MRI, but not when comparing their radiographic with their MRI values. Background: Although it has been known that medial open wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) would adversely affect the patellofemoral joint, no previous study examined the surgical outcome of MOWHTO according to the preexisting cartilage status of the patellofemoral joint. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of MOWHTO on the patellofemoral joint with regard to objective and subjective aspects according to the preexisting cartilage status.Methods: Ninety-two patients who underwent MOWHTO and a following second-look arthroscopic assessment were included in this study. The patients were divided into two groups according to the preexisting cartilage status of the patellofemoral joint: group 1 (International Cartilage Repair Society [ICRS] grade 2 or 3) and group 2 (ICRS grade 0 or 1). Comparative analysis was performed regarding clinical scores, radiographic parameters, and arthroscopic measurements between the two groups.Results: Clinical outcomes showed overall improvement from baseline to the time of second-look operation, with no significant difference between the two groups at each time point. There were no significant differences in radiographic parameters between the two groups. Radiographic grade of patellofemoral osteoarthritis in both groups showed a tendency to progress, without statistical significance. In arthroscopic assessment, the size of the cartilage lesion on the patellofemoral joint increased with time in both groups (P = 0.003), but the degree of change over time between the two groups was not statistically significant. Consistently, there was no significant difference in the frequency of progression of cartilage lesion grade in the patellofemoral joint between the two groups.Conclusions: MOWHTO would contribute to osteoarthritis progression of the patellofemoral joint regardless of the preexisting cartilage status, without an association with clinical outcomes in short-term follow-up. Background: Synthetic deoxycholic acid (DCA) has been approved as an injectable drug for the nonsurgical reduction of submental fat. Objective: In this study, we evaluated the fat-reducing effects of a new formula containing a low dose of DCA and fat dissolution by topical application of DCA. Methods: Sodium deoxycholate (99.1% pure) and the new formulation containing 10% DCA were injected or topically applied to the dorsa of obese mice (induced by a high-fat diet). The rate of change in body weight was evaluated, together with comparisons of micro-computed tomography images, body composition measurements, and histology findings. Results: The results showed that the new formula containing low-dose DCA was as effective as the older high-dose formulation with respect to the rate of change in body weight and reductions in subcutaneous fat pad area, body fat weight, and the thickness of the subcutaneous fat layer. Furthermore, topical application of the high-dose, but not the low-dose, formulation yielded promising effects. Conclusions: The development of a better protocol for the high-dose preparation, including dose optimization and application methods that minimize the adverse effects of DCA, merits further study. Portulaca oleracea L. is a traditional oriental medicine known for its pharmacological effects. The present study aimed to investigate the immunostimulatory effects of PPCE on cyclophosphamide-stimulated rat model and in isolated spleen cells. The result showed that PPCE exerted an immunostimulatory effect in vivo and in vitro. Specifically, PPCE significantly enhanced splenocyte proliferation and upregulated inflammatory cytokines (IL-2, IL-12, TNF-α, and IFN-γ) and NK cell activity in vitro. The immunostimulatory effect was further investigated through various immunological assays. Oral administration of PPCE increased the swimming time and number of immune cells in rats. Histological analysis revealed that PPCE administration exerted splenic recovery. This paper presents three cases of peri-implant mucosal defects that were successfully treated with a newly proposed "pouch roll" implant soft tissue augmentation technique. This procedure uses a de-epithelialized connective tissue layer during the first or second stage of implant surgery over the underlying dental implant without the need for sutures. At 2 weeks, healing was remarkable, with excellent plaque control. At 3 months, only minimal tissue shrinkage was evident. As a result, a 2- to 3-mm increase in the width of the keratinized tissue was noted around the augmented implant site. This technique is an atraumatic, versatile, and cost-effective surgical modality that enhances the peri-implant soft tissue over the ridge with a soft tissue thickness ≥ 3 mm. The pouch roll implant soft tissue augmentation procedure provides an easy and less traumatic correction of a mild to moderate buccal ridge deficiency by thickening the soft tissue around the dental implant. Successful osseointegration is a prerequisite for functional dental implants. Continuous monitoring in an objective and quantitative manner is important to determine the status of implant stability. Historically, the gold standard method used to evaluate degree of osseointegration was microscopic or histologic analysis. However, due to the invasiveness of this method and related ethical issues, various other methods of analysis have been proposed: radiographs, cutting torque resistance, reverse torque, modal analysis, and resonance frequency analysis. For the last few years, many feature extraction methods have been proposed based on biological signals. Among these, the brain signals have the advantage that they can be obtained, even by people with peripheral nervous system damage. Motor imagery electroencephalograms (EEG) are inexpensive to measure, offer a high temporal resolution, and are intuitive. Therefore, these have received a significant amount of attention in various fields, including signal processing, cognitive science, and medicine. The common spatial pattern (CSP) algorithm is a useful method for feature extraction from motor imagery EEG. However, performance degradation occurs in a small-sample setting (SSS), because the CSP depends on sample-based covariance. Since the active frequency range is different for each subject, it is also inconvenient to set the frequency range to be different every time. In this paper, we propose the feature extraction method based on a filter bank to solve these problems. The proposed method consists of five steps. First, motor imagery EEG is divided by a using filter bank. Second, the regularized CSP (R-CSP) is applied to the divided EEG. Third, we select the features according to mutual information based on the individual feature algorithm. Fourth, parameter sets are selected for the ensemble. Finally, we classify using ensemble based on features. The brain–computer interface competition III data set IVa is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The proposed method improves the mean classification accuracy by 12.34%, 11.57%, 9%, 4.95%, and 4.47% compared with CSP, SR-CSP, R-CSP, filter bank CSP (FBCSP), and SR-FBCSP. Compared with the filter bank R-CSP ( $\beta $ , $\gamma $ ), which is a parameter selection version of the proposed method, the classification accuracy is improved by 3.49%. Work engagement and organizational commitment are among the most studied topics in a range of fields, including human resource development (HRD) and organization development (OD). The value of such work is evident in the direct influence of work engagement and organizational commitment on employee well-being and organizational performance. However, scholars have divergent perspectives on the relationship between these two concepts. While some studies have examined work engagement as a precursor to organizational commitment, others have investigated work engagement as an outcome of organizational commitment. Despite the contrasting perspectives, little research effort has been made to reconcile these differing views through the synthesis and analysis of the extant literature. Background: Displacement of dental implants into the maxillary sinus is rare, but it primarily occurs in patients with severe pneumatization of the maxillary sinus and/or deficiency of the alveolar process. Some complications such as the infection of the paranasal sinuses and formation of the oroantral fistula can be followed by the displacement of a dental implant. Therefore, the displaced implant has to be removed immediately with surgical intervention show and another plan for rehabilitation should be considered. Main body: The conventional procedure for the removal of a displaced implant from the maxillary sinus involves sinus bone grafting and new implant placement performed in two or more steps with a significant time gap in between. Simplification of these surgical procedures can decrease the treatment duration and patient discomfort. Background: Osteochondroma is a benign tumor that tends to develop in mandibular condyle and coronoid process in the craniofacial region. If tumor mass has grown from condyle into the infratemporal space with zygomatic arch obstructing the access, there are risks associated with surgical exposure and local resection of these masses. Case presentation: This study reports on a case of osteochondroma on mandibular condylar head where we treated with surgical excision via preauricular approach with 3D analysis. After the local resection, there were no surgical and post-operative complications until 8-month follow-up period. Objectives. Terlipressin is safely used for acute variceal bleeding. However, side effects, such as hyponatremia, although very rare, can occur. We investigated the development of hyponatremia in cirrhotic patients who had acute variceal bleeding treated with terlipressin and the identification of the risk factors associated with the development of hyponatremia. Design and Methods. This retrospective, case-control study investigated 88 cirrhotic patients who developed hyponatremia and 176 controls that did not develop hyponatremia and were matched in terms of age and gender during the same period following terlipressin administration. Results. The overall change in serum sodium concentration and the mean lowest serum sodium concentration were 3.44 ± 9.55 and 132.44 ± 8.78 mEq/L during treatment, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that baseline serum sodium was an independent positive predictor, and the presence of baseline serum creatinine, HBV, DM, creatinine, and shock on admission was independent negative predictors of hyponatremia (P<0.05). Conclusion. The presence of HBV, DM, the baseline serum sodium, shock on admission, and especially baseline creatinine may be predictive of the development of hyponatremia after terlipressin treatment. Therefore, physicians conduct vigilant monitoring associated with severe hyponatremia when cirrhotic patients with preserved renal function are treated with terlipressin for variceal bleeding. For the last few years, motor imagery electroencephalogram (EEG)-based brain-computer interface (BCI) systems have received the significant amount of attention in various areas, including medicine and engineering. The common spatial pattern (CSP) algorithm is the most commonly used method to extract features from motor imagery EEG. However, the CSP algorithm has limited applicability in small-sample setting (SSS) situations because these rely on a covariance matrix. In addition, the large differences in performance depend on the frequency bands that are being used. To address these problems, 4–40 Hz band EEG signals are divided into nine subbands, and regularized CSP (R-CSP) is applied to individual subbands. Fisher’s linear discriminant (FLD) is applied to the features of R-CSP extracted from individual subbands, and the results obtained through the foregoing are connected for all subbands to make an FLD score vector. Furthermore, principal component analysis is applied to use the FLD score vectors as the inputs of the classifier least square support vector machine. The proposed method yielded a classification accuracy of 86.61%, 98.21%, 63.78%, 87.05%, and 77.78% from five subjects (“ $aa$ ”, “ $l$ ”, “ $av$ ”, “ $aw$ ”, and “ $ay$ ”, respectively) for BCI competition III data set IVa by using 18 channels in the vicinity of the motor area of the cerebral cortex. Background: The degree of liver fibrosis in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a critical predictive factor for patient prognosis. This study was intended to perform external validation of the various fibrosis prediction models for assessing advanced fibrosis in Korean NAFLD patients. Methods: A retrospective study of 412 patients with NAFLD confirmed by liver biopsy in hospitals affiliated with the Koran NAFLD study group was conducted and the predictive ability of existing liver fibrosis prediction models including NAFLD fibrosis score (NFS), BARD, and fibrosis-4 were compared. Results: Among 412 samples, 328 liver slides were suitable for evaluation. Advanced fibrosis was present in 60 (18.3%) of the patient samples. Univariate analysis found that the group with advanced fibrosis showed low alanine aminotransferase values and high aspartate aminotransferase/alanine aminotransferase ratios as well as a high incidence of diabetes. However, multivariate analysis showed that only the presence of diabetes and triglycerides was independent risk factors. The receiver operating characteristic was 0.64 in NFS, 0.58 in fibrosis-4, and 0.594 in the BARD model. The NFS was found to be the best at predicting advanced fibrosis among the three prediction models. The negative predictive value which predicts advanced fibrosis using the low cutoff (<−1.455) was high (86.6%). However, the positive predictive value which predicts advanced fibrosis using the high cutoff (>0.676) was 50.0% when we applied the NFS. Conclusion: Negative predictive value using the low cutoff value was high, but positive predictive value using the high cutoff value was low in a Korean NAFLD cohort using NFS. Background: There have been limited studies directly comparing the long-term efficacy between entecavir (ETV) and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF). This study was aimed to compare the long-term efficacy between them in treatment-naïve chronic hepatitis B (CHB).Methods: Out of 345 CHB patients who received first line therapy with ETV (n = 200) or TDF (n = 145) in a cohort, 210 patients were analyzed using propensity score matching, at a ratio of 1:1.Results: Two groups showed no difference in baseline characteristics. During the follow-up of 12 months, HBV DNA levels were similarly suppressed in both groups (ETV vs. TDF; -5.01 vs. -5.242 log10IU/mL, P = 0.559). At month 12, both groups showed no difference in terms of the serologic, biochemical and virologic (VR) response. In multivariate analysis, the initial virologic response at 3 months (IVR-3) was independent factor for VR at 1 year. During the long-term follow-up, HBV DNA levels were more strongly suppressed by TDF than ETV in hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) positive patients (P = 0.035), especially with high viral load (P = 0.012), although there was no significant difference in overall VR between two groups. The type of antivirals was not an independent factor for long-term VR.Conclusions: Although either ETV or TDF, overall, may show a comparable long-term antiviral efficacy in treatment-naïve CHB, TDF might be better regimen than ETV in the subgroup of HBeAg-positive CHB, especially with a higher HBV DNA levels. According to a report by the Korea Hydrographic and Oceanographic Agency (KHOA), the sea level rise in west coast (1.31 mm/yr), east coast (2.69 mm/yr) and south coast (2.05 mm/yr) of Korea are different. Especially, the seas around Jeju Island show one of the most rapid increase of sea level rise in recent years. This investigation on the data from Jeju and Seogwipo tidal station indicated that the sea level rises around Jeju and near Seogwipo were 5.63 mm/yr and 3.75 mm/yr, respectively. This shows that the northern and southern parts of the island have different temporal rates of sea level rise. The purpose of this research is to analyze the influence of the steric effect caused by density change in the water to the rate of sea level rise, by using sea temperature and salinity data measured by the National Institute of Fisheries Science (NIFS). It is found that the trend of seawater density variation near Jeju Island changed by the time of around 2006 and so does the sea level rise, indicating that there is a meaningful correlation between sea level rise and density variation. The risk of storm surges can be intensified by rising sea levels, which will create more damaging flood conditions in coastal areas. This study focused on the long-term variations of the mean sea level (MSL) and the annual maximum surge heights (AMSH), which were influenced by global warming and strengthening typhoons. The trends of MSL and AMSH were estimated using the sea level data at eight stations along the southern and eastern coast of Korea over the past 40 years (~2014). The trend was on average +2.31 mm (exclude Pohang) and +2.59 mm per year, which were significant within the 95% confidence level based on linear regression. The areal average rise of the MSL was +2.32 mm and +2.31 mm (exclude Pohang) per year in the south and east coast of Korea. The average rise of AMSH in the southern coast (+3.71 mm/year) was higher than the eastern coast (+1.48 mm/year) because the southern coast lies in the direct path of typhoons. Statistical analysis showed that 41% ~ 58% of the AMSH occurred during the typhoon event. The AMSH were relatively low during the last decade due to the typhoon landfall frequency and reducing intensity. Overall, the surge heights (extreme sea levels) at southeastern coast of Korea are likely to be affected by geographical or regional atmospheric adjustments in accordance with global climate change. Background: The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the clinical utility of an implant with a sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched (SLA) surface and internal connection. Methods: Six patients who received dental implants in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Chonnam National University Dental Hospital, were analyzed by factors influencing the success rate and marginal bone loss. Factors included patient's age, sex, implant installation site, whether bone graft was done, type of bone graft materials, approaching method if sinus lift was done, and the size of the fixture. In addition, the marginal bone loss was analyzed by using a radiograph. Results: All implants were successful, and the cumulative survival rate was 100 %. Average marginal bone loss of 6 months after the installation was 0.52 mm and 20 months after the functional loading was 1.06 mm. Total marginal bone resorption was 1.58 mm on average. There was no statistically significant difference in mesial and distal marginal bone loss. Conclusions: The short-term clinical success rate of the implant with an SLA surface and internal connection was satisfactory. In recent years, the demand for NAND flash-based storage devices has rapidly increased because of the popularization of various portable devices. NAND flash memory (NFM) offers many advantages, such as nonvolatility, high performance, the small form factor, and low-power consumption, while achieving high chip integration with a specialized architecture for bulk data access. A unit of NFM’s read and program operations, the page, has continuously grown. Although increasing page size reduces costs, it adversely affects performance because of the resultant side effects, such as fragmentation and wasted space, caused by the incongruity of data and page sizes. To address this issue, we propose a multiple-page-size NFM architecture and its management. Our method dramatically improves write performance through adopting multiple page sizes without requiring additional area overhead or manufacturing processes. Based on the experimental results, the proposed NFM improves write latency and NFM lifetime by up to 65% and 62%, respectively, compared with the single-page-size NFM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Pseudo-patella baja (PPB) is a surgical complication that can arise from total knee arthroplasty and occurs when the patella tendon is not shortened but the level of the femorotibial joint line is elevated. The goal of this study was to assess the performance of a technique specifically designed to prevent the occurrence of PPB and its radiological results.Methods: Ninety-nine patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were included. Patients were divided into a non-correction group and a correction group. The correction group were applied an additional metal block in order to reduce the excess resection of the distal femur. To evaluate PPB, the change in the pre- and postoperative joint line was measured using the modified Blackburne-Peel Index (BPI).Results: In the non-correction group, 68 of 74 cases showed an occurrence of PPB (92 %), in the correction group, 6 of 57 cases showed an occurrence of PPB (11 %). The preoperative-modified BPI of the non-correction group was not significantly different from that of the correction group (0.6 ± 0.1 vs. 0.6 ± 0.2). The modified BPI decreased significantly in the non-correction group after TKA (0.6 ± 0.1 vs. 0.2 ± 0.1, p < 0.05). However, the modified BPI did not change significantly in the correction group after TKA (0.6 ± 0.2 vs. 0.6 ± 0.2).Conclusion: The comparison of preoperative and postoperative radiological results showed that our intervention maintained the joint line without elevation. The low initial coulombic efficiency of a Si-based anode can hinder the performance of practical full-cell Li-ion batteries (LIBs), as the irreversible capacity loss of the anode can diminish the reversible full-cell capacity and the energy efficiency. Therefore, it is critical to develop high-coulombic-efficiency Si-based anode materials from a practical perspective. To this end, we developed a high-coulombic-efficiency Si-based hybrid anode material with suitable cycling performance by developing a spray-assisted assembly process based on a combination of graphene and ionic liquid (IL). During the assembly process, the IL was trapped between the graphene and Si nanoparticles. Then, it was easily converted into IL-derived carbon, to generate additional protective/binding layers in the resultant Si-based hybrid microspheres. This IL-derived carbon layer played an important role in improving the electrochemical performance of the Si-based hybrid microspheres. The resultant Si-based hybrid microsphere electrode exhibited enhanced initial coulombic efficiency along with improved cycling performance, owing to the formation of the protective/binding carbon layers derived from the IL. Recently, many reports revealed that there are close correlations between antioxidant and anticancer activities of compounds. In this study, we designed 4-hydroxy-3′,4′-dihydroxychalcone ( 2) as a ring-opened analog of luteolin, which has been known to possess both antioxidant and anticancer activities, and then introduced aminoethyl moieties to this chalcone structure to increase water solubility by transforming into HCl salts. Synthesized aminoalkyl-substituted chalcones 3a-3d showed potent antioxidant activities in three different assay systems and anticancer activities against four tumor cell lines tested.
