One of the most challenging aspects of agricultural pest control is accurate detection of insects in crops. Inadequate control measures for insect pests can seriously impact the production of corn and soybean plantations. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms have been extensively used for detecting insect pests in the field. In this line of research, this paper introduces a method to detect four key insect species that are predominant in Brazilian agriculture. Our model relies on computer vision techniques, including You Only Look Once (YOLO) and Detectron2, and adapts them to lightweight formats—TensorFlow Lite (TFLite) and Open Neural Network Exchange (ONNX)—for resource-constrained devices. Our method leverages two datasets: a comprehensive one and a smaller sample for comparison purposes. With this setup, the authors aimed at using these two datasets to evaluate the performance of the computer vision models and subsequently convert the best-performing models into TFLite and ONNX formats, facilitating their deployment on edge devices. The results are promising. Even in the worst-case scenario, where the ONNX model with the reduced dataset was compared to the YOLOv9-gelan model with the full dataset, the precision reached 87.3%, and the accuracy achieved was 95.0%. A wide variety of vehicles are moving on roads, and these vehicles are classified and detected by intelligent traffic systems using object detection. Various traditional methods are inefficient in producing good accuracy for detecting vehicles in traffic due to a lack of object discrimination capability. Object detection algorithms typically rely on deep convolutional neural networks, which require the host device with high computing capabilities, significantly limiting the applications of object detection algorithms for edge devices with limited computing capabilities. There is a need for an object detector to address the problem of detecting objects in traffic. This paper proposes a novel framework consisting of a deep learning model with the training-to-inference pipeline for object detection on images acquired from Indian city streets. The deep learning model has been used to streamline the conversion of the trained model to an optimized Triton-compatible (TensorRT) model. The Triton Inference Server model is evaluated on the Indian driving dataset (IDD) with NVIDIA Jetson AGX Xavier edge device. The model can easily deploy on traffic data collected from any client devices located remotely. The experimental results show that the Triton Inference outperformed the existing techniques. The proposed framework can be used to prevent traffic congestion. The proposed method achieved a precision of 93.8%, recall of 76.5%, and MAP of 80.5%, respectively, on IDD images with a resolution of 1920 × 1080. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores cost-effective alternatives for resource-constrained environments in the context of language models by investigating methods such as quantization and CPUbased model implementations. The study addresses the computational efficiency of language models during inference and the development of infrastructure for text document processing. The paper discusses related technologies, the CLARIN-PL infrastructure architecture, and implementations of small and large language models. The emphasis is on model formats, data precision, and runtime environments (GPU and CPU). It identifies optimal solutions through extensive experimentation. In addition, the paper advocates for a more comprehensive performance evaluation approach. Instead of reporting only average token throughput, it suggests considering the curve’s shape, which can vary from constant to monotonically increasing or decreasing functions. Distributed deep learning is a promising approach for training and deploying large and complex deep learning models. This paper presents a comprehensive workflow for deploying and optimizing the YOLACT instance segmentation model as on big data clusters. OpenVINO, a toolkit known for its high-speed data processing and ability to optimize deep learning models for deployment on a variety of devices, was used to optimize the YOLACT model. The model is then run on a big data cluster using BigDL, a distributed deep learning library for Apache Spark. BigDL provides a high-level programming interface for defining and training deep neural networks, making it suitable for large-scale deep learning applications. In distributed deep learning, input data is divided and distributed across multiple machines for parallel processing. This approach offers several advantages, including the ability to handle very large data that can be stored in a distributed manner, scalability to decrease processing time by increasing the number of workers, and fault tolerance. The proposed workflow was evaluated on virtual machines and Azure Databricks, a cloud-based platform for big data analytics. The results indicated that the workflow can scale to large datasets and deliver high performance on Azure Databricks. This study explores the benefits and challenges of using distributed deep learning on big data clusters for instance segmentation. Popular distributed deep learning frameworks are discussed, and BigDL is chosen. Background Artificial intelligence (AI) programs that train on large datasets require powerful compute infrastructure consisting of several CPU cores and GPUs. JupyterLab provides an excellent framework for developing AI programs, but it needs to be hosted on such an infrastructure to enable faster training of AI programs using parallel computing. Findings An open-source, docker-based, and GPU-enabled JupyterLab infrastructure is developed that runs on the public compute infrastructure of Galaxy Europe consisting of thousands of CPU cores, many GPUs, and several petabytes of storage to rapidly prototype and develop end-to-end AI projects. Using a JupyterLab notebook, long-running AI model training programs can also be executed remotely to create trained models, represented in open neural network exchange (ONNX) format, and other output datasets in Galaxy. Other features include Git integration for version control, the option of creating and executing pipelines of notebooks, and multiple dashboards and packages for monitoring compute resources and visualization, respectively. Conclusions These features make JupyterLab in Galaxy Europe highly suitable for creating and managing AI projects. A recent scientific publication that predicts infected regions in COVID-19 computed tomography scan images is reproduced using various features of JupyterLab on Galaxy Europe. In addition, ColabFold, a faster implementation of AlphaFold2, is accessed in JupyterLab to predict the 3-dimensional structure of protein sequences. JupyterLab is accessible in 2 ways—one as an interactive Galaxy tool and the other by running the underlying Docker container. In both ways, long-running training can be executed on Galaxy's compute infrastructure. Featured Application: System and method for continuously improving or adapting multi-access router path selection of autonomous moving vehicles in changing environments. Autonomous moving vehicles facilitate mining of ore in underground mines. The vehicles are usually equipped with many sensor-based devices (e.g., Lidar, video camera, proximity sensor, etc.), which enable environmental monitoring, and remote control of the vehicles at the control center. Transfer of sensor-based data from the vehicles towards the control center is challenging due to limited connectivity enabled by the multi-access technologies of the communication infrastructure (e.g., 5G, Wi-Fi) within the underground mine, and the mobility of the vehicles. This paper presents design, development, and evaluation of a concept and architecture enabling continuous machine learning (ML) for optimizing route selection of real-time streaming data in a real and emulated underground mining environment. Continuous ML refers to training and inference based on the most recently available data. Experiments in the emulator indicated that utilization of a ML-based model (based on the RandomForestRegressor) in decision making achieved ~5–13% lower one-way delay in streaming data transfers, when compared to a simpler heuristic model. Recently, IoT applications using Deep Neural Network (DNN) to embedded edge devices are increasing. Generally, in the case of DNN applications in the IoT system, training is mainly performed in the server and inference operation is performed on the edge device. The embedded edge devices still take a lot of loads in inference operations due to low computing resources, so proper customization of DNN with architectural exploration is required. However, there are few integrated frameworks to facilitate exploration and customization of various DNN models and their operations in embedded edge devices. In this paper, we propose an integrated framework that can explore and customize DNN inference operations of DNN models on embedded edge devices. The framework consists of the GUI interface part, the inference engine part, and the hardware Deep Learning Accelerator (DLA) Virtual Platform (VP) part. Specifically it focuses on Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), and provides integrated interoperability for convolutional neural network models and neural network customization techniques such as quantization and cross-inference functions. In addition, performance estimation is possible by providing hardware DLA VP for embedded edge devices. Those features are provided as web-based GUI interfaces, so users can easily utilize them. With the increase in research on AI (Artificial Intelligence), the importance of DL (Deep Learning) in various fields, such as materials, biotechnology, genomes, and new drugs, is increasing significantly, thereby increasing the number of deep-learning framework users. However, to design a deep neural network, a considerable understanding of the framework is required. To solve this problem, a GUI (Graphical User Interface)-based DNN (Deep Neural Network) design tool is being actively researched and developed. The GUI-based DNN design tool can design DNNs quickly and easily. However, the existing GUI-based DNN design tool has certain limitations such as poor usability, framework dependency, and difficulty encountered in changing GUI components. In this study, a deep learning algorithm that solves the problem of poor usability was developed using a template to increase the accessibility for users. Moreover, the proposed tool was developed to save and share only the necessary parts for quick operation. To solve the framework dependency, we applied ONNX (Open Neural Network Exchange), which is an exchange standard for neural networks, and configured it such that DNNs designed with the existing deep-learning framework can be imported. Finally, to address the difficulty encountered in changing GUI components, we defined and developed the JSON format to quickly respond to version updates. White blood cells (WBCs) are a vital part of the immune system that protect the body from different types of bacteria and viruses. Abnormal cell growth destroys the body's immune system, and computerized methods play a vital role in detecting abnormalities at the initial stage. In this research, a deep learning technique is proposed for the detection of leukemia. The proposed methodology consists of three phases. Phase I uses an open neural network exchange (ONNX) and YOLOv2 to localize WBCs. The localized images are passed to Phase II, in which 3D-segmentation is performed using deeplabv3 as a base network of the pre-trained Xception model. The segmented images are used in Phase III, in which features are extracted using the darknet-53 model and optimized using Bhattacharyya separately criteria to classify WBCs. The proposed methodology is validated on three publically available benchmark datasets, namely ALL-IDB1, ALL-IDB2, and LISC, in terms of differentmetrics, such as precision, accuracy, sensitivity, and dice scores.
