This research investigates the spillovers of global liquidity to Asia–Pacific countries, focusing on the contradictory effects of policy-driven liquidity created by monetary stances in advanced economies and market-driven liquidity generated by the private banking sector. Our findings stand in sharp contrast to previous studies, showing that shifts in macro-financial indicators in Asia–Pacific economies are predominantly influenced by market-driven shocks rather than those of policy-driven liquidity. Specifically, liquidity shocks associated with surges in cross-border credit flows, especially those denominated in US dollars, drive up asset prices and have boosting effects on inflation and economic output. A positive shock to market liquidity also results in an appreciation pressure on domestic currencies and a short-term rise in interest rates. However, excess liquidity shocks caused by the Bank of Japan's adjustments in shadow short rates and balance sheets have a negative effect on inflation and bring about temporary depreciation pressure on Asian currencies. Although Augmented Reality (AR) has been extensively studied in supporting Immersive Analytics (IA), there are still many challenges in visualising and interacting with big and complex datasets. To deal with these datasets, most AR applications utilise NoSQL databases for storing and querying data, especially for managing large volumes of unstructured or semi-structured data. However, NoSQL databases have limitations in their reasoning and inference capabilities, which can result in insufficient support for certain types of queries. To fill this gap, we aim to explore and evaluate whether an intelligent approach based on ontology and linked data can facilitate visual analytics tasks with big datasets on AR interface. We designed and implemented a prototype of this method for meteorological data analytics. An experiment was conducted to evaluate the use of a semantic database with linked data compared to a conventional approach in an AR-based immersive analytics system. The results significantly highlight the performance of semantic approach in helping the users analysing meteorological datasets and their subjective appreciation in working with the AR interface, which is enhanced with ontology and linked data. African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious and severe hemorrhagic transboundary swine viral disease with up to a 100% mortality rate, which leads to a tremendous socio-economic loss worldwide. The lack of safe and efficacious ASF vaccines is the greatest challenge in the prevention and control of ASF. In this study, we generated a safe and effective live-attenuated virus (LAV) vaccine candidate VNUA-ASFV-LAVL3 by serially passaging a virulent genotype II strain (VNUA-ASFV-L2) in an immortalized porcine alveolar macrophage cell line (3D4/21, 50 passages). VNUA-ASFV-LAVL3 lost its hemadsorption ability but maintained comparable growth kinetics in 3D4/21 cells to that of the parental strain. Notably, it exhibited significant attenuation of virulence in pigs across different doses (103, 104, and 105 TCID50). All vaccinated pigs remained healthy with no clinical signs of African swine fever virus (ASFV) infection throughout the 28-day observation period of immunization. VNUA-ASFV-LAVL3 was efficiently cleared from the blood at 14–17 days post-infection, even at the highest dose (105 TCID50). Importantly, the attenuation observed in vivo did not compromise the ability of VNUA-ASFV-LAVL3 to induce protective immunity. Vaccination with VNUA-ASFV-LAVL3 elicited robust humoral and cellular immune responses in pigs, achieving 100% protection against a lethal wild-type ASFV (genotype II) challenge at all tested doses (103, 104, and 105 TCID50). Furthermore, a single vaccination (104 TCID50) provided protection for up to 2 months. Accurate seismic ground response analysis is crucial for the design and safety of civil infrastructure and establishing effective mitigation measures against seismic risks and hazards. This is a complex process due to the nonlinear soil properties and complicated underground geometries. As a simplified approach, the one-dimensional wave propagation model, which assumes that seismic waves travel vertically through a horizontally layered medium, is widely adopted for its reasonable performance in many practical applications. This study explores the potential of sequence deep learning models, specifically 1D convolutional neural networks (1D-CNNs), long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, and transformers, as an alternative for seismic ground response modeling. Utilizing ground motion data from the Kiban Kyoshin Network (KiK-net), we train these models to predict ground surface acceleration response spectra based on bedrock motions. The performance of the data-driven models is compared with the conventional equivalent-linear analysis model, SHAKE2000. The results demonstrate that the deep learning models outperform the physics-based model across various sites, with the transformer model exhibiting the smallest average prediction error due to its ability to capture long-range dependencies. The 1D-CNN model also shows a promising performance, albeit with occasional higher errors than the other models. All the data-driven models exhibit efficient computation times of less than 0.4 s for estimation. Sewer concrete structures are vulnerable to acidic corrosion due to the biological oxidation of sulfide in the wastewater to sulfuric acid. The use of photosynthetic bacteria in the coating layer on the sewer concrete is proposed to be an effective approach to prevent such corrosion. Here we report two strains, PN6 and PN7, isolated from a drainage system in Hanoi that were identified as Rhodopseudomonas palustris PN6 and Rhodobacter capsulatus PN7 based on a comparative analysis of the 16S rDNA and pufM gene sequences. Both strains performed versatile metabolic paths, including anoxygenic and microaerophilic phototrophy and aerobic chemotrophy, allowing them to adapt to the fluctuating sewer conditions. Furthermore, they exhibited notable capability of oxidizing sulfide and producing glycocalyx, and therefore were able to prevent concrete corrosion by scavenging sulfide and reducing the production of sulfuric acid, at the same time sealing the tiny cracks on the concrete surface and preventing further attack of the corrosive agents. Two strains grew well at an alkali pH of 9 and formed biofilm extensively, and therefore can be incorporated into porous material vermiculite, allowing them to survive in the coating mortar. The protective effect of coating mortar containing strains PN6 or PN7 singly or in a combination of both incorporated in vermiculite was demonstrated in a laboratory model simulating the sewer environment with an acidic vapor atmosphere. Without bacteria in the coating mortar, the concrete surface suffered severe corrosion with spots of 0.01–0.2 mm in width and up to 4.5 mm in length clustering in rafts of 10–70 mm2 , whereas the concrete surface coated by bacteria-containing mortar was intact to corrosion. The study proposed the possibility of applying purple nonsulfur bacteria (PNSB) to protect sewer concrete, and also prolong the service life of these important structures. Practical Applications: Sewer concrete systems are daily attacked by acidic corrosion established via the biological oxidation of sulfide to sulfuric acid. The repair is generally costly and has difficulties in implementation. The use of PNSB with the capabilities of scavenging H2S and producing exopolysaccharide (EPS) for the development of a coating layer would be a feasible approach to constrain the corrosion process. Suitable strains of PNSB such as the two strains Rhodopseudomonas palustris PN6 and Rhodobacter capsulatus PN7 reported in this study are supposed to be incorporated in a porous material like vermiculite before being added to the coating mortar to better stabilize and adapt to the harsh conditions of the coating layer. These types of PNSB can survive in the coating layer and multiply by utilizing organic carbon and sulfide from wastewater with the production of sulfur (instead of sulfuric acid) and glycocalyx that can instantly seal the tiny corrosion spots and prevent further corrosion attacks. In Vietnam and the Philippines, viral hepatitis is the leading cause of cirrhosis and liver cancer. This study aims to understand the barriers and enablers of people receiving care for hepatitis B and C to support both countries' efforts to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. Retrospective, semi‐structured interviews were conducted with a purposive, quota‐based sample of 63 people living with hepatitis B or C in one province of Vietnam and one region of the Philippines. A rapid deductive approach to thematic analysis produced key findings among the three phases of care: (1) pre‐awareness and testing, (2) linkage and treatment initiation and (3) ongoing treatment and recovery. The research found that participants followed five typical journeys, from a variety of entry points. Barriers during the pre‐awareness and testing phase included limited awareness about hepatitis and its management, stigma and psychological impacts. Enablers included being familiar with the health system and/or patients benefiting from social connections within the health systems. During the linkage and treatment initiation phase, barriers included difficult physical access, complex navigation and inadequate counselling. In this phase, family support emerged as a critical enabler. During the ongoing treatment and recovery phase, the cost of care and socially and culturally informed perceptions of the disease and medication use were both barriers and enablers. Exploring peoples' journeys with hepatitis B and C in Vietnam and the Philippines revealed many similarities despite the different cultural and health system contexts. Insights from this study may help generate a contextualized, people‐centred evidence base to inform the design and improvement of primary care services for hepatitis in both research sites. Do lenders securitize or price loans in response to credit risk? Exploiting exogenous variation in regional credit risk due to foreclosure law differences along U.S. state borders, we find that lenders securitize mortgages that are eligible for sale to the government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) rather than price regional credit risk. For non-GSE-eligible mortgages with no GSE buyback provision, lenders increase interest rates as they are unable to shift credit risk to loan purchasers. The results inform the debate surrounding the GSEs' buyback provisions, the constant interest rate policy, and show that underpricing regional credit risk increases the GSEs' debt holdings. The relationship between DM yield/cutting and the fermentable organic matter (FOM) content of tropical grasses was appropriately investigated to re-assess optimal grass maturity to feed dairy cattle. Nine different grass species belonging to the genera Brachiaria spp. (Mulato II, Ruzi), Panicum spp. (Guinea, Hamil, Mombasa, TD58), and Pennisetum spp. (King, Napier, VA06) were chemically analysed and subjected to an in vitro gas production (IVGP) test. For 72 h, gas production (GP) was continuously recorded with fully automated equipment. A triphasic, nonlinear, regression procedure was applied to analyse GP profiles. Across all the grasses, it was found that the neutral detergent fibre (NDF) contents increased with increasing maturity of the grass while the CP contents decreased with increasing NDF contents. In all nine grasses, digestible organic matter (dOM) was significantly affected by the week of cutting but IVGP was similar between the weeks of cutting in Ruzi, Hamil, Mombasa, and Napier grasses. Except for Guinea grass, the lowest dOM values were found when the grasses were cut after ≥5 weeks of regrowth. Harvesting grass one or two weeks earlier than the normal cutting time is a practically relevant intervention in increasing forage quality and productivity of dOM and fermentation potential. The U Minh wetlands of southern Vietnam in Ca Mau and Kieng Giang provinces are a degraded, peat-swamp wetland mosaic known to retain several globally threatened species. We deployed 83 targeted camera-traps across U Minh Thuong National Park and U Minh Ha National Park from December 2019 to May 2020, and from November 2020 to June 2021, respectively. Our aim was to detect threatened otters, wild cats, and pangolins in each protected area, to identify relative abundance, activity patterns, and what potential threats they may face to inform conservation priorities for park managers. Our results showed that both protected areas harbour significant regionally important populations of globally threatened Sunda pangolins (Manis javanica), and Hairy-nosed otters (Lutra sumatrana). However, Fishing cats (Prionailurus viverrinus) and Large-spotted civet (Viverra megaspila) previously recorded from U Minh Thuong National Park, were not observed, emphasising the probability of local extirpation. Other than wide-ranging species that are less sensitive to human disturbance (i.e., Common palm civets and Leopard cats), all small carnivores were most active in Melaleuca and swamp/Melaleuca habitats in U Minh Thuong, and both the wetland plantations and disturbed forests of U Minh Ha according to their photographic rates. Human and domestic dogs' activity periods in both protected areas overlapped strongly with Hairy-nosed otters, which could influence their dispersal abilities and access to resources. The article develops parameter estimation in the Logistic regression when the covariate is observed with measurement error. In Logistic regression under the case–control framework, the logarithmic ratio of the covariate densities between the case and control groups is a linear function of the regression parameters. Hence, an integrated least-square-type estimator of the Logistic regression can be obtained based on the estimated covariate densities. When the covariate is precisely measured, the covariate densities can be effectively estimated by the kernel density estimation and the corresponding parameter estimator was developed by Geng and Sakhanenko (2016). When the covariate is observed with measurement error, we propose the least-square-type parameter estimators by adapting the deconvolution kernel density estimation approach. The consistency and asymptotic normality are established when the measurement error in covariate is ordinary smooth. Simulation study shows robust estimation performance of the proposed estimator in terms of bias reduction against the error variance and unbalanced case–control samples. Introduction: The literature puts forward a range of challenges of interprofessional education (IPE) related to its planning, initiation, implementation, and especially to IPE assessment. The present study aims to map changes in students' readiness and interprofessional collaboration competence (IPCC) in implementing an innovative IPE module. Potential differences in impact related to the health education programs and IPCC scores resulting from self-, peer-, and tutor assessments will also be analysed. Methods: A pre-post design was adopted. The student's readiness for interprofessional learning was assessed using the Readiness for Interprofessional Learning Scale, and the student's IPCC score was calculated based on self-, peer-, and tutor assessments with the interprofessional collaborator assessment rubric. Results: Students' mean post-test readiness scores and mean post-test IPCC scores were significantly higher than the total and subscales/domain pre-test scores (p<0.01). No significant within-subject differences were observed in students' readiness total or subscale scores when comparing health educational programs. However, significant differences were observed in students' mean total IPCC scores between programs (p<0.01). Significant differences in students' average IPCC scores were found when comparing self-, peer- and tutor assessment scores in six domains (p<0.01). Also, significant correlations between peer and tutor assessment scores were observed (p<0.01). Conclusion: The IPE module, designed and implemented to focus on patient-centred practice within a primary care context, positively impacted students' readiness and IPCC development. In the present paper, for the first time, we consider the problem of non-fragile finite-time guaranteed cost control for a class of fractional-order singular systems with norm-bounded uncertainties. Firstly, we establish a linear quadratic cost function based on the integral of integer order, which serves practical purposes and acts as a performance measure index for the closed-loop system. Then, leveraging finite-time boundedness theory, inequality techniques, and fractional-order calculus properties, we propose a non-fragile state feedback controller that ensures regularity, impulse-free, and finite-time boundedness in the closed-loop system. Furthermore, we establish an upper limit for the performance index. The resulting findings are reliant on the order of the considered fractional-order systems and are obtained through the use of strict linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), devoid of any equality restrictions. Manufacturers continue to improve performance and usability of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems. As CGM becomes a standard of care, especially for people on insulin therapy, it is important to routinely gauge how satisfied people with diabetes are with this technology. Background: Heat shock proteins (HSPs) function as molecular chaperones with critical roles in chicken embryogenesis, immune response to infectious diseases, and response to various environmental stresses. However, little is known on HSP genes in chicken. In this study, to understand the roles of chicken HSPs, we performed genome-wide identification, expression, and functional analyses of the HSP family genes in chicken. Results: A total of 76 HSP genes were identified in the chicken genome, which were further classified into eight distinct groups (I-VIII) based on phylogenetic tree analysis. The gene-structure analysis revealed that the members of each clade had the same or similar exon-intron structures. Chromosome mapping suggested that HSP genes were widely dispersed across the chicken genome, except in chromosomes 16, 18, 22, 25, 26, and 28–32, which lacked chicken HSP genes. On the other hand, the interactions among chicken HSPs were limited, indicating that the remaining functions of HSPs could be investigated in chicken. Moreover, KEGG pathway analysis showed that the HSP gene family was involved in the regulation of heat stress, apoptotic, intracellular signaling, and immune response pathways. Finally, RNA sequencing data revealed that, of the 76 chicken HSP genes, 46 were differentially expressed at 21 different growth stages in chicken embryos, and 72 were differentially expressed on post-infection day 3 in two indigenous Ri chicken lines infected with highly pathogenic avian influenza. Conclusions: This study provides significant insights into the potential functions of HSPs in chicken, including the regulation of apoptosis, heat stress, chaperone activity, intracellular signaling, and immune response to infectious diseases. This research presents an innovative solution aimed at addressing the cost and accessibility challenges associated with soil stiffness analysis in construction projects. Traditional lightweight deflectometer (LWD) systems have limitations due to their high cost and proprietary nature, prompting the need for a more widely accessible technology. To fulfill this purpose, a low-cost, open-source LWD onboard sensor signal interpretation system, utilizing Electro-Mechanical and Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System (MEMS) technology-based sensors in conjunction with an Arduino® Uno and ADS1262 Breakout Board, has been developed. This system efficiently processes raw signal data into deflection and force units, enabling precise soil property analysis. Thorough enhancements, calibration, and alignment procedures have been applied and validated through field tests, which have produced highly satisfactory results. By significantly reducing costs while maintaining accuracy, this developed system has the potential to popularize quality control and assurance practices in the construction industry. This open-source approach not only enhances affordability but also broadens accessibility, making soil property analysis more efficient and attainable for a wider range of construction projects. With the impact of global climate change, natural disasters such as prolonged drought, earthquakes, and tsunamis, have constantly increased over recent decades, putting those living in these areas in great danger. A natural disaster warning system has been established as an indispensable need to minimize possible high risks that cause human casualties. Several current natural disaster warning systems focus on building wireless sensor networks for forecasting and monitoring disasters as well as natural phenomena. This paper aims to develop a comprehensive model that integrates data visualization operations to identify and simultaneously predict threat proceedings in natural disasters. This technique can handle big data based on sensing data from wireless sensor networks and shows overview graphs about disasters' variability, floods, and earthquakes, in the areas. Based on the results collected from data visualization techniques, the system can issue alerts about the interest of the region in real time. In addition, we propose some levels for the warning system in which the networks only focus on the area with essential data that must be warned. Out-of-pocket payments are expenditures borne directly by an individual/household for health services that are not reimbursed by any third-party. Households can experience financial hardship when the burden of such out-of-pocket payments is significant. This financial hardship is commonly measured using the "catastrophic health expenditure" (CHE) metric. CHE has been applied as an indicator in several health sectors and health policies. However, despite its importance, the methods used to measure the incidence of CHE vary across different studies and the terminology used can be inconsistent. In this paper, we introduce and raise awareness of the main approaches used to calculate CHE and discuss critical areas of methodological variation in a global health context. We outline the key features, foundation and differences between the two main methods used for estimating CHE: the budget share and the capacity-to-pay approach. We discuss key sources of variation within CHE calculation and using data from Ethiopia as a case study, illustrate how different approaches can lead to notably different CHE estimates. This variation could lead to challenges when decisionmakers and policymakers need to compare different studies' CHE estimates. Introduction: Severe hypoglycemic events are distressing. Although past studies have shown that young adulthood is a potentially distressing time, few studies have explored distress about severe hypoglycemia in this age group. The real-world psychosocial experiences of potential severe hypoglycemic events and the perceived impact of glucagon treatments like nasal glucagon are currently unknown. We explored perceptions of severe hypoglycemic events and impact of nasal glucagon on psychosocial experiences with these events in emerging adults with type 1 diabetes and caregivers of emerging adults and children/teens. Further, we compared perceptions of preparedness and protection in handling severe hypoglycemic events with nasal glucagon versus the emergency glucagon kit that requires reconstitution (e-kit). Methods: This observational, cross-sectional study enrolled emerging adults (aged 18–26; N = 364) with type 1 diabetes, caregivers of emerging adults (aged 18–26; N = 138) with type 1 diabetes, and caregivers of children/teens (aged 4–17; N = 315) with type 1 diabetes. Participants completed an online survey about their experiences with severe hypoglycemia, perceptions of nasal glucagon impact on psychosocial experiences, and perceptions of feeling prepared and protected with nasal glucagon and the e-kit. Results: Many emerging adults (63.7%) agreed that the experience of severe hypoglycemic events was distressing; 33.3% and 46.7% of caregivers of emerging adults and children/teens, respectively, reported distress. Participants reported positive perceptions of nasal glucagon impact, particularly improved confidence in other people's ability to help during severe hypoglycemic events: emerging adults, 81.4%; caregivers of emerging adults, 77.6%; caregivers of children/teens, 75.5%. Participants demonstrated higher perceptions of preparedness and protection for nasal glucagon than for the e-kit (p < 0.001). Conclusions: Participants reported improved confidence in other people's ability to help during severe hypoglycemic events since having nasal glucagon available. The transplantation of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) sheets derived from human umbilical cords (hUCs) was investigated in this study as a potential application in treating myocardial infarction (MI). Two groups of hUC-MSC sheets were formed by populating LunaGelTM, which are 3D scaffolds of photo-crosslinkable gelatin-based hydrogel with two different cell densities. An MI model was created by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery of healthy BALB/c mice. After two weeks, the cell sheets were applied directly to the MI area and the efficacy of the treatment was evaluated over the next two weeks by monitoring the mice's weight, evaluating the left ventricle ejection fraction, and assessing the histology of the heart tissue at the end of the experiment. Higher cell density showed significantly greater efficiency in MI mice treatment in terms of weight gain and the recovery of ejection fraction. The heart tissue of the groups receiving cell sheets showed human-CD44-positive staining and reduced fibrosis and apoptosis. In conclusion, the hUC-MSC sheets ameliorated heart MI injury in mice and the efficacy of the cell sheets improved as the number of cells increased. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major health issue that can affect both mothers and their newborn children. In Vietnam, approximately 20% of mothers suffer from PPD. However, there is a lack of synthesized evidence regarding the case management of PPD in the Vietnamese context. A review of early symptoms, consequences, and management strategies of PPD will help to inform best practices to reduce complications and shorten the recovery time after parturition. Methods: This scoping review aims to analyze and synthesize the findings of studies on PPD examining the symptoms, consequences, and management strategies among Vietnamese women. MEDLINE, CINAHL, PubMed, ScienceDirect, EBSCOHost, Google Scholar, and a networked digital library of projects, theses, and dissertations published between 2010 and 2022 in Vietnam were accessed following search terms including "Vietnam", "depression", "postpartum", "symptom/experience", "consequence", and "management". Findings: The most-reported symptoms were sadness, tiredness, the feeling of being ignored, lack of interest in the baby, reduced appetite, and sleep disturbance. The recognized consequences were child stunting and slow growth, without mentioning its long-term effects on mothers. Our findings indicated that PPD in Vietnam has not been sufficiently managed; mothers tend to seek help from 'fortune-tellers' or 'word-of-mouth' practices rather than from evidence-based modern medicine. Conclusion: This scoping review provides an initial stage of PPD symptoms, consequences, and management along with facilitating an interventional program to support this vulnerable group of women. Severe hypoglycemia (SH) is the most frequent and potentially serious complication affecting individuals with type 1 diabetes and can have major clinical and psychosocial consequences. Glucagon is the only approved treatment for SH that can be administered by non–health care professionals (HCPs); however, reports on the experiences and emotions of people with type 1 diabetes associated with SH and glucagon rescue use are limited. This survey study demonstrated that an increasing number of individuals with type 1 diabetes have current and filled prescriptions for glucagon and have been educated about glucagon rescue use by an HCP. Despite this positive trend, challenges with SH remain, including a high level of health care resource utilization, considerable out-of-pocket expenses for glucagon kits, a high prevalence of hypoglycemia unawareness, and a negative emotional impact on individuals with diabetes. High throughput drug screening is an established approach to investigate tumor biology and identify therapeutic leads. Traditional platforms use two-dimensional cultures which do not accurately reflect the biology of human tumors. More clinically relevant model systems such as three-dimensional tumor organoids can be difficult to scale and screen. Manually seeded organoids coupled to destructive endpoint assays allow for the characterization of treatment response, but do not capture transitory changes and intra-sample heterogeneity underlying clinically observed resistance to therapy. We present a pipeline to generate bioprinted tumor organoids linked to label-free, time-resolved imaging via high-speed live cell interferometry (HSLCI) and machine learning-based quantitation of individual organoids. Bioprinting cells gives rise to 3D structures with unaltered tumor histology and gene expression profiles. HSLCI imaging in tandem with machine learning-based segmentation and classification tools enables accurate, label-free parallel mass measurements for thousands of organoids. We demonstrate that this strategy identifies organoids transiently or persistently sensitive or resistant to specific therapies, information that could be used to guide rapid therapy selection. In entrepreneurship management, the evaluation and selection of startups for acceleration programs, especially technology-based startups, are crucial. This process involves considering numerical and qualitative criteria such as sales, prior startup experience, demand validation, and product maturity. To effectively rank startups based on the varying importance of these criteria, a fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach is needed. Although MCDM methods have been successful in handling complex problems, their application in startup selection and evaluating criteria interrelationships from the accelerator perspective is underexplored. To address this gap, a hybrid DEMATEL-ANP-based fuzzy PROMETHEE II model is proposed in this study, facilitating startup ranking and examining interrelationships among factors. The resulting preference values are fuzzy numbers, necessitating a fuzzy ranking method for decision-making. An extension of ranking fuzzy numbers using a spread area-based relative maximizing and minimizing set is suggested to enhance the flexibility of existing ranking MCDM methods. Algorithms, formulas, and a comparative analysis validate the proposed method, while a numerical experiment verifies the viability of the hybrid model. The final ranking of four startup projects is A 4 < A 1 < A 3 < A 2 which indicates that startup project A2 has the highest comprehensive potential, followed by startup project A3. Plasmodium vivax cases represent more than 50% of a diminishing malaria case load in Vietnam. Safe and effective radical cure strategies could support malaria elimination by 2030. This study investigated the operational feasibility of introducing point-of-care quantitative glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) testing into malaria case management practices. A prospective interventional study was conducted at nine district hospitals and commune health stations in Binh Phuoc and Gia Lai provinces in Vietnam over the period of October 2020 to October 2021. The STANDARD™ G6PD Test (SD Biosensor, Seoul, Republic of Korea) was incorporated to inform P. vivax case management. Case management data and patient and health care provider (HCP) perspectives, as well as detailed cost data were collected. The G6PD test results were interpreted correctly by HCP and the treatment algorithm was adhered to for the majority of patients. One HCP consistently ran the test incorrectly, which was identified during the monitoring and resulted in provision of refresher training and updating of training materials and patient retesting. There was wide acceptability of the intervention among patients and HCP albeit with opportunities to improve the counseling materials. Increasing the number of facilities to which the test was deployed and decreases in the malaria cases resulted in higher per patient cost for incorporating G6PD testing into the system. Commodity costs can be reduced by using the 10-unit kits compared to the 25 unit kits, particularly when the case loads are low. Sexually transmitted diseases are major causes of infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and premature birth. Here, we developed a new multiplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for the simultaneous detection of nine major sexually transmitted infections (STIs) found in Vietnamese women, including Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Gardnerella vaginalis, Trichomonas vaginalis, Candida albicans, Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma genitalium, and human alphaherpesviruses 1 and 2. A panel containing three tubes × three pathogens/tube was predesigned based on double-quenched TaqMan probes to increase detection sensitivity. There was no cross-reactivity among the nine STIs and other non-targeted microorganisms. Depending on each pathogen, the agreement with commercial kits, sensitivity, specificity, repeatability and reproducibility coefficient of variation (CV), and limit of detection of the developed real-time PCR assay were 99.0%–100%, 92.9%–100%, 100%, <3%, and 8–58 copies/reaction, respectively. One assay cost only 2.34 USD. Application of the assay for the detection of the nine STIs in 535 vaginal swab samples collected from women in Vietnam yielded 532 positive cases (99.44%). Among the positive samples, 37.76% had one pathogen, with G. vaginalis (33.83%) as the most prevalent; 46.36% had two pathogens, with G. vaginalis + C. albicans as the most prevalent combination (38.13%); and 11.78%, 2.99%, and 0.56% had three, four, and five pathogens, respectively. In conclusion, the developed assay represents a sensitive and cost-effective molecular diagnostic tool for the detection of major STIs in Vietnam and is a model for the development of panel detections of common STIs in other countries. Porous MnO2 microflowers with a hexagonal crystalline structure were facilely prepared at a low hydrothermal temperature of 90°C, without using any template or capping agent. The as-prepared MnO2 only presented an excellent detection ability for copper (II) by a square wave anodic stripping voltammetry in the presence of super P carbon black as conducting agent, and Nafion as binder. In the present work, to evaluate the detection ability of copper (II) in the MnO2 microflowers, chips of screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) having a polyurethane substrate, a silver working electrode, a carbon counter electrode, and a silver pseudoelectrode, were designed. Then, the SPEs chips were modified with MnO2 microflowers and/or super P carbon and used as electrochemical sensors for the detection of copper (II) present in water sources. From the measured results, the fabricated sensors with excellent copper detection in a linear range from 0.625 nM to 15 nM (R2 = 0.9737), and a low detection limit (0.5 nM), high sensitivity (214.05 μA/cm2 nM), and rapid response (180 s) demonstrated high application potential for electrochemical sensors in the detection of copper in water resources. African swine fever (ASF) virus (ASFV) is responsible for one of the most severe swine diseases worldwide, with a morbidity rate of up to 100%; no vaccines or antiviral medicines are available against the virus. Exosomal miRNAs from individual cells can regulate the immune response to infectious diseases. In this study, pigs were infected with an ASFV Pig/HN/07 strain that was classified as acute form, and exosomal miRNA expression in the serum of infected pigs was analyzed using small RNA sequencing (small RNA-seq). Twenty-seven differentially expressed (DE) miRNAs were identified in the ASFV-infected pigs compared to that in the uninfected controls. Of these, 10 were upregulated and 17 were downregulated in the infected pigs. All DE miRNAs were analyzed using gene ontology (GO) terms and the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) database, and the DE miRNAs were found to be highly involved in T-cell receptor signaling, cGMP-PKG signaling, Toll-like receptor, MAPK signaling, and mTOR signaling pathways. Furthermore, the Cytoscape network analysis identified the network of interactions between DE miRNAs and target genes. Finally, the transcription levels of four miRNA genes (ssc-miR-24-3p, ssc-miR-130b-3p, ssc-let-7a, and ssc-let-7c) were examined using quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and were found to be consistent with the small RNA-seq data. These DE miRNAs were associated with cellular genes involved in the pathways related to immune response, virus–host interactions, and several viral genes. Overall, our findings provide an important reference and improve our understanding of ASF pathogenesis and the immune or protective responses during an acute infection in the host. Research contributions, which indicate how a research paper contributes new knowledge or new understanding in contrast to prior research on the topic, are the most valuable type of information for researchers to understand the main content of a paper. However, there is little research using research contributions to identify and recommend valuable knowledge in academic literature for users. Instead, most existing studies mainly focus on the analysis of other elements in academic literature, such as keywords, citations, rhetorical structure, discourse, and others. This paper first introduces a fine-grained annotation scheme with six categories for research contributions in academic literature. To evaluate the reliability of our annotation scheme, we conduct annotation on 5024 sentences collected from Proceedings of the Annual Meeting of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL Anthology) and an academic journal Information Processing & Management (IP &M). We reach an inter-annotator agreement of Cohen's kappa = 0.91 and Fleiss' kappa = 0.91, demonstrating the high quality of the dataset. We then built two types of classifiers for automated research contribution identification based on the dataset: classic feature-based machine learning (ML) and transformer-based deep learning (DL). Our experimental results show that SCI-BERT, a pretrained language model for scientific text, achieves the best performance with an F1 score of 0.58, improving the best classic ML model (nouns + verbs + tf-idf + random forest) by 2%. This also indicates a comparable power of classic feature-based ML models to DL-based model like SCI-BERT on this dataset. The fine-grained annotation scheme can be applied for large-scale analysis for research contributions in academic literature. The automated research contribution classifiers built in this paper provide the basis for the automatic research contributions extraction and knowledge fragment recommendation. Background: Invasive gastrointestinal surgery may be performed as an open or endoscopic procedure, such as laparoscopic semi-colon surgery, laparoscopic appendectomy, laparoscopic gastrectomy, and anal surgery, among other such operations. Regardless of the approach, the operative procedure interferes with the patient's gastrointestinal tract, necessitating the rational use of prophylactic antibiotics to improve treatment outcomes and minimize postoperative infections.Objective: To investigate the prophylactic and postoperative antibiotic usage in patients who underwent invasive gastrointestinal surgery, and to identify factors associated with postoperative infection.Design: This descriptive, cross-sectional study included 112 patients who underwent invasive gastrointestinal surgery at the Department of Gastroenterology, Thong Nhat Hospital. We conducted a cross-sectional study in all inpatients aged 18 years and older, who underwent invasive gastrointestinal surgery between January 2020 and December 2020. We recorded patient characteristics, the administration and appropriateness of antibiotics, as well as treatment outcomes. The appropriateness of prophylactic and postoperative antibiotic usage was assessed based on 2015 Vietnamese national guideline for antibiotic use. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to determine the factors associated with postoperative infection.Results: Patients' mean age was 59.7 ± 17.2 years. Most surgeries (89.3%) were clean-contaminated procedures. The rates of appropriate types of antibiotics selected, doses, and overall rates of appropriateness of antibiotic prophylaxis were 68.0%, 76.4% and 54.7%, respectively. Of the patients investigated, 34.8% had at least one sign of postoperative infection; the overall appropriate rate of postoperative antibiotic was 38.5%. Old age was associated with postoperative infection and longer length of hospitalization.Conclusion: Implementation of the guidelines recommended for the prophylactic and therapeutic use of antibiotics is essential to improve treatment outcomes. Single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)/TiO2 hybrids were synthesized using 1,10-bis(decyloxy)decane-core PAMAM dendrimer as a molecular glue. Upon photoirradiation of a water dispersion of SWCNT/TiO2 hybrids with visible light (λ > 422 nm), the hydrogen evolution reaction proceeded at a rate of 0.95 mmol/h·g in the presence of a sacrificial agent (1-benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide, BNAH). External quantum yields (EQYs) of the hydrogen production reaction photosensitized by (6,5), (7,5), and (8,3) tubes were estimated to be 5.5%, 3.6%, and 2.2%, respectively, using monochromatic lights corresponding to their E22 absorptions (570 nm, 650 nm, and 680 nm). To mitigate the damage of oil spills, a filter modified with a hydrophilic and oleophobic coating is proposed for affordable and efficient oil separation and recovery from water. The sol–gel method was chosen to produce a colloidal suspension of titanium dioxide particles for its ease of production and its versatility in application for many different substrates, including paper and cloth fabric. After immersing the substrates into a titanium-containing solution, three techniques were applied to increase the production of titanium dioxide—microwave-assisted, refrigeration, and ultra-sonication. Contact angle tests were done to investigate the change in the filter's oleophobicity. The titanium dioxide present on the surface of the filter was amorphous, but all treatment methods showed an improvement in oleophobicity. All treated filters improved oil filtration performance by up to eighty percent. The filters isolated motor oil from a mixture while allowing water to pass through. The coated filters also displayed photocatalytic activity by degrading methylene blue on its surface when exposed to sunlight, demonstrating the filter's self-cleaning ability. For real-world applications, the filter can be supported by a stainless mesh for enhanced strength and durability. Background: Studying human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) superinfection is important to understand virus transmission, disease progression, and vaccine design. But detection remains challenging, with low sampling frequencies and insufficient longitudinal samples.Methods: Using the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS), we developed a molecular epidemiology screening for superinfections. A phylogeny built from 22 243 HIV-1 partial polymerase sequences was used to identify potential superinfections among 4575 SHCS participants with longitudinal sequences. A subset of potential superinfections was tested by near-full-length viral genome sequencing (NFVGS) of biobanked plasma samples.Results: Based on phylogenetic and distance criteria, 325 potential HIV-1 superinfections were identified and categorized by their likelihood of being detected as superinfections due to sample misidentification. NFVGS was performed for 128 potential superinfections; of these, 52 were confirmed by NFVGS, 15 were not confirmed, and for 61 sampling did not allow confirming or rejecting superinfection because the sequenced samples did not include the relevant time points causing the superinfection signal in the original screen. Thus, NFVGS could support 52 of 67 adequately sampled potential superinfections.Conclusions: This cohort-based molecular approach identified, to our knowledge, the largest population of confirmed superinfections, showing that, while rare with a prevalence of 1%-7%, superinfections are not negligible events. While investigating a giraffe's death in a Vietnamese zoo, we successfully identified and isolated Lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV) from skin nodule biopsies and ruptured nodule wound swab samples. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolate obtained in this study was closely related to the previous Vietnamese and Chinese LSDV strains from cattle. This is the first report on the genome detection and isolation of LSDV in a diseased giraffe in Vietnam. Further study is needed to better understand the epidemiology of this disease in wildlife. In this study, activated carbon derived from mangosteen peel (abbreviated as ACMP) was successfully fabricated. This as-prepared ACMP possessed graphite and had a porous structure with a specific surface area of 419.8554 m2/g. Investigations of the influencing factors on the ciprofloxacin (CIP) adsorption capability of the ACMP based on the static adsorption method showed that: adsorption equilibrium can be achieved in 60 min, the optimal pH for CIP adsorption was a pH of 6, and the optimal ratio between the material mass and solution volume was 3 g/L. The CIP adsorption process of the ACMP follows the Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin, Elovich, and Redlich–Peterson isotherm adsorption models. The maximum adsorption capacity calculated according to the Langmuir isothermal adsorption model for the CIP of the ACMP was (qmax = 29.76 mg/g). The CIP adsorption process of the ACMP followed the apparent quadratic kinetic equation, as well as spontaneous, endothermic, physical, and chemical adsorption. This article provides a snapshot of the development of nursing education and practice in Vietnam and the impact of historical and socioeconomic factors of the last few decades. To tackle these challenges, the increased involvement of nursing experts who have in‐depth understanding of contemporary nursing practice is warranted. Background: Studies on symptom clusters among cancer patients have been conducted intensively. However, the concept seems not to be well defined, hindering its utilization in clinical practice. Aim: The aim of this paper is to reconceptualize symptom cluster and discuss areas of future research. Results: A cluster of symptoms should not be viewed as simply as a group of symptoms appearing together. It should be clinically relevant, and symptom members should be interactive or have a mutual etiology. A cluster is declared as stable if its "quality" or "nature" is remained instead of merely having the same number of symptoms. Importantly, each symptom cluster should have a sentinel symptom. The sentinel symptom could be the one that predicts the presence of the cluster or could be the one that significantly interacts with other symptoms. The search for symptom clusters, which are common among various patient groups, might be helpful in some aspects. However, to better understand them, symptom clusters should be examined in specific populations. Conclusion: The nature of the relationship between symptom members, clinical relevance, sentinel symptom, stability, and prevalence are important features of a symptom cluster. Background As trans women are disproportionately affected by the HIV epidemic, and are still understudied, we aimed to identify and characterize the trans women in the Swiss HIV Cohort Study (SHCS). Methods A combination of criteria from pre-existing cohort data was used to identify trans women. Information on socioeconomic factors, clinical data, risk behaviors, and mental health was collected. We also described their phylogenetic patterns within HIV transmission networks in relation to other risk groups. Results We identified 89 trans women of a total 20 925 cohort participants. Trans women were much more likely to be Asian (30.3%) and Hispanic (15.7%) than men who have sex with men (MSM) (2.5% and 4.1%; P  < .001) and cis heterosexual (HET) women (7.0% and 3.3%; P  < .001). Trans women were more similar to cis HET women in some measures like educational level (postsecondary education attainment: 22.6% and 20.7% [ P  = .574] vs 46.5% for MSM [ P  < .001]), while being more similar to MSM for measures like prior syphilis diagnosis (36.0% and 44.0% [ P  = .170] vs 6.7% for cis HET women [ P  < .001]). 11.2% of trans women have been previously hospitalized for psychological reasons compared with 4.2% of MSM (P  = .004) and 5.1% of cis HET women (P  = .025). Analysis of transmission clusters containing trans women suggested greater affinity within the transmission networks to MSM compared with cis HET women. Conclusions Trans women are epidemiologically distinct in the setting of the Swiss HIV epidemic, warranting better identification and study to better serve this underserved risk group. Neuronal nerve processes in the tumor microenvironment were highlighted recently. However, the origin of intra-tumoral nerves remains poorly known, in part because of technical difficulties in tracing nerve fibers via conventional histological preparations. Here, we employ three-dimensional (3D) imaging of cleared tissues for a comprehensive analysis of sympathetic innervation in a murine model of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Our results support two independent, but coexisting, mechanisms: passive engulfment of pre-existing sympathetic nerves within tumors plus an active, localized sprouting of axon terminals into non-neoplastic lesions and tumor periphery. Ablation of the innervating sympathetic nerves increases tumor growth and spread. This effect is explained by the observation that sympathectomy increases intratumoral CD163+ macrophage numbers, which contribute to the worse outcome. Altogether, our findings provide insights into the mechanisms by which the sympathetic nervous system exerts cancer-protective properties in a mouse model of PDAC. The autonomic nervous systems densely innervate the pancreas, but its contribution to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) progression is not fully understood. The baseline data of radioactivity levels in food is one of the main factors for the assessment of resident's health risk. Gross beta and alpha activity was identified for selected commercial freshwater fish species, including 29 types of fish species by a gas-flow proportional detector. The samples were collected from wholesale markets in Hanoi city, Vietnam. The highest gross alpha activity was recorded in blotched snakehead, a pelagic and carnivorous species, and the lowest one was recorded in common carp, a demersal and omnivorous species. Meanwhile, the gross beta activity was much higher than the gross alpha activity with the highest value of gross beta, observed in Wels catfish, a demersal and carnivorous species, and the lowest one found in Mudskipper a demersal, herbivores species. Regarding feeding types, the gross alpha activity was observed in the order of Alcarnivores > Alomnivores > Alherbivores whereas the gross beta was non-distinction. In terms of living behavior, the gross alpha activity in pelagic species was much higher than that in demersal species (Alpelagic > > Aldemersal) and indifferent for gross beta. There was an insignificant relationship between the trophic level with gross beta and alpha activities in freshwater fish species. The calculated annual effective dose ​​ranged from 0.19 to 1.88 and 0.78 mSv.y−1 on average, being within the limited dose for the public as reported by UNSCEAR in which gross beta activity has a strong correlation with the total annual effective dose. Purpose of Review: The purpose of this paper is to describe rescue glucagon types, safety, efficacy, and preferences, as well as to review articles regarding emergency glucagon usage, severe hypoglycemia, and the emotions of both phenomena. We conducted a review of current literature on glucagon usage and the emotional impact of severe hypoglycemia on people with diabetes (PwD) and the caregivers of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Recent Findings: Minimal research exists pertaining to glucagon and severe hypoglycemic experiences in PwD, which is troubling considering the severity of risks and possible side effects. Recent articles described negative emotions such as fear, anxiety, stress, helplessness, shame, embarrassment, loneliness, frustration, hopefulness, and uncertainty surrounding glucagon usage. Summary: There is scarce research regarding PwD's emotions surrounding severe hypoglycemia and rescue glucagon use. Additional research is needed to investigate the emotions and feelings people with T1D and their caregivers' experience pertaining to severe hypoglycemia and emergency glucagon use. The patient-centric strategy urges the pharmaceutical companies to develop orodispersible films (ODF) as a new approach for pediatrics. However, the most common ODF-fabricated method, solvent casting, is facing the safety challenges of safety during manufacturing. To obtain favorable formulations with the ease of use and rapid dissolution, nanotechnology has been accounted for the development process. In this work, we investigated the wet-milling technique in preparing nanocarriers for loratadine—a hydrophobic anti-histamine drug. The results showed that the wet-milling technique could produce nanocarriers at the size of 400 nm. The reduction of particle size induced the increase of solubility and the dissolution rate of loratadine. Moreover, the pre-formulation of nanosized materials could adapt to the preparation of orodispersible films that disintegrated (less than 60s) and dissolved quickly. Lactic acid bacteria have been advocated as probiotics to replace antibiotic growth promoters, improve growth performance, and reduce cost production in swine farming. The aim of this study is to identify and evaluate the probiotic traits of strain LCN13 isolated from traditionally fermented feed for swine. Thirty-five bacterial isolates with different morphological characteristics were isolated, among which 9 isolates showed the ability to produce lactic acid and antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacteria. Among them, isolate LCN13 exhibited a strong capacity to produce lactic acid (18.5 ± 0.31 g/L), inhibited gastrointestinal pathogens such as Salmonella typhimurium ATCC 14028 (18.3 ± 1.52 mm), Escherichia coli ATCC 11105 (24.7 ± 2.14 mm), and Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 35984 (31.6 ± 2.93 mm), and produced 182 ng/mL folate and 233 ng/mL riboflavin as measured by LC-MS/MS after 24 hours of incubation. Based on morphological, biochemical, and 16S rRNA gene analysis, the isolate LCN13 was identified as Lactobacillus plantarum. Phenotypic analysis revealed that L. plantarum LCN13 showed remarkable resistance to 1.2% ox-bile salt, 2.0 mM H2O2, and pH 3.0. In addition, the ability to produce high levels of folate (253.6 ± 10.7 ng/mL) and riboflavin (312.0 ± 12.2 ng/mL) after 48 hours was exploited for the first time in the L. plantarum. The patient-centric strategy urges the pharmaceutical companies to develop orodispersible films (ODF) as a new approach for pediatrics. However, the most common ODF-fabricated method, solvent casting, is facing the safety challenges of safety during manufacturing. To obtain favorable formulations with the ease of use and rapid dissolution, nanotechnology has been accounted for the development process. In this work, we investigated the wet-milling technique in preparing nanocarriers for loratadine—a hydrophobic anti-histamine drug. The results showed that the wet-milling technique could produce nanocarriers at the size of 400 nm. The reduction of particle size induced the increase of solubility and the dissolution rate of loratadine. Moreover, the pre-formulation of nanosized materials could adapt to the preparation of orodispersible films that disintegrated (less than 60s) and dissolved quickly. The determination of the buried objects and cracks in building structures is an important issue in real-life. In this paper, we propose a new method called Correlation Function Separation Technique (CFST) combine with the Lervenberg-Marquardt Algorithm (LMA) using the Impulse Radio Ultra-Wide Band (IR-UWB) penetrating system to improve the accuracy in detecting and positioning of the adjacent buried objects in building structures. Based on the UWB signal processing, the proposed method can be used to determine both the relative permittivity of the environment and the position of the buried objects, especially the adjacent objects. The analytical method is validated by mathematical proofs and Matlab simulations, and the position errors are used to assess the performance of proposed method. The numerical results shown that the proposed method can be used for positioning the adjacent buried objects in the homogeneous environment which has an average positioning error of 3.52 cm, which is smaller than that of the conventional method based on B-canned radar images processing.
