This article presents the findings of a 13-year retrospective study on the sensitization profiles of aeroallergens among allergic rhinitis (AR) patients in China. The study included 16,664 patients from three different centers. The most common aeroallergens were house dust mites, cockroaches, mustard plants, and maple trees. Children had a higher sensitization rate than adults, and AR patients with asthma had a higher sensitization rate than AR patients without asthma. The sensitization rates of the aeroallergens changed significantly from 2009 to 2021, with different trends observed in the three centers. The study provides valuable information on prevalent aeroallergens in China and proposes a panel of five aeroallergens for the diagnosis of AR. [Extracted from the article]

Objectives: We explored the role and molecular mechanisms of RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and their regulated alternative splicing events (RASEs) in the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (AD). Methods: We downloaded RNA-seq data (GSE121212) from 10 healthy control skin samples (healthy, Ctrl), 10 non-lesional skin samples with AD damage (non-lesional, NL), and 10 lesional skin samples with AD damage (lesional, LS). We performed the analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), differentially expressed RBPs (DE-RBPs), alternative splicing (AS), functional enrichment, the co-expression of RBPs and RASEs, and quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Results: We identified 60 DE-RBP genes by intersecting 2141 RBP genes from existing reports with overall 2697 DEGs. Most of the DE-RBP genes were found to be upregulated in the AD LS group and related to immune and apoptosis pathways. We observed different ASEs and RASEs among the healthy, AD NL, and AD LS groups. In particular, alt3p and alt5p were the main ASEs and RASEs in AD NL and AD LS groups, compared to the healthy group. Furthermore, we constructed co-expression networks of DE-RBPs and RAS, with particular enrichment in biological pathways including cytoskeleton organization, inflammation, and immunity. Subsequently, we selected seven genes that are commonly present in these three pathways to assess their expression levels in the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from both healthy individuals and AD patients. The results demonstrated the upregulation of four genes (IFI16, S100A9, PKM, and ENO1) in the PBMCs of AD patients, which is highly consistent with DE-RBP genes analysis. Finally, we selected four RAS genes regulated by RBPs that were related to immune pathways and examined their RASEs in PBMCs from both AD patients and healthy controls. The results revealed an increased percentage of RASEs in the DDX60 gene in AD, which is highly consistent with AS analysis. Conclusion: Dysregulated RBPs and their associated RASEs may have a significant regulatory role in the development of AD and could be potential therapeutic targets in the future. Clarifying the driving mechanisms of spatial and temporal changes in the regulating ecosystem service value (RESV) is an important part of realizing the goal of sustainable development. Existing studies have focused on specific factors, ignoring the complex interactions between factors and their regional differences. In this regard, the spatial and temporal changes of RESV and its driving mechanisms in the different zones (core area, fringe area, and peripheral area) were explored in the Poyang Lake Area, China. The results showed that RESV spatially showed the distribution characteristics of fringe area > core area > peripheral area, while the lakes influenced the provision of regulating ecosystem services, showing that RESV per unit area was higher in the core area, and gradually declined with the increase of distance from the lakes, presenting the decreasing trend of fringe area > peripheral area. From 2000 to 2020, the study area lost 70.5988 billion CNY for RESV, in which the core area was the most affected. Further analysis of the driving mechanism of RESV in different areas found that there are regional differences in the paths of the driving factors: Population density mainly affects the core area, precipitation mainly affects the fringe area, and GDP per land mainly affects the peripheral area. Objective: Neutrophils are one of the most predominant infiltrating leukocytes in lung cancer tissues and are associated with lung cancer progression. How neutrophils promote lung cancer progression, however, has not been established. Methods: Kaplan-Meier plotter online analysis and tissue immunohistochemistry were used to determine the relationship between neutrophils and overall survival in lung cancer patients. The effect of neutrophils on lung cancer was determined using the Transwell migration assay, a proliferation assay, and a murine tumor model. Gene knockdown was used to determine poly ADPribose polymerase (PARP)-1 function in lung cancer-educated neutrophils. Western blot analysis and gelatin zymography were used to demonstrate the correlation between PARP-1 and matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP-9). Immunoprecipitation coupled to mass spectrometry (IP/MS) was used to identify the proteins interacting with PARP-1. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) was used to confirm that PARP-1 interacts with arachidonate 5-lipooxygenase (ALOX5). Neutrophil PARP-1 blockage by AG14361 rescued neutrophil-promoted lung cancer progression. Results: An increased number of infiltrating neutrophils was negatively associated with overall survival in lung cancer patients (P < 0.001). Neutrophil activation promoted lung cancer cell invasion, migration, and proliferation in vitro, and murine lung cancer growth in vivo. Mechanistically, PARP-1 was shown to be involved in lung cancer cell-induced neutrophil activation to increase MMP-9 expression through interacting and stabilizing ALOX5 by post-translational protein modification (PARylation). Blocking PARP-1 by gene knockdown or AG14361 significantly decreased ALOX5 expression and MMP-9 production, and eliminated neutrophil-mediated lung cancer cell invasion and in vivo tumor growth. Conclusion: We identified a novel mechanism by which PARP-1 mediates lung cancer cell-induced neutrophil activation and PARylates ALOX5 to regulate MMP-9 expression, which exacerbates lung cancer progression. The inflammatory response to viral infection is an important component of the antiviral response, a process that involves the activation and proliferation of CD8+ T, CD4+ T, and dendritic cells; thus, viral infection disrupts the immune homeostasis of the organism, leading to an increased release of inflammatory factors. Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) is an inflammatory self-limited disorder of unknown etiology, and it is generally believed that the pathogenesis of this disease includes two aspects: viral infection and autoimmune response. Various immune cells, such as CD8+ T lymphocytes, CD4+ T lymphocytes, and CD123+ plasmacytoid dendritic cells, as well as the cytokines they induce and secrete, such as interferons, interleukins, and tumor necrosis factors, play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of KFD. In this article, we present a case study of a young female patient from China who exhibited typical symptoms of lymph node inflammation and fever. The diagnosis of KFD was confirmed through a lymph node biopsy. She presented with elevated ESR, IL-6, and IFN-γ. Viral markers showed elevated IgG and IgM of cytomegalovirus (CMV) and elevated IgG of Epstein--Barr virus (EBV), while changes occurred in the CD4+ T and CD8+ T cell counts. Eventually, the patient achieved disease relief through steroid treatment. Based on these findings, we conducted a comprehensive review of the involvement of viral infection--induced inflammatory response processes and autoimmunity in the pathogenesis of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease. Background: Although glutathione (GSH) has long been considered a master antioxidant, poor stability and bioavailability limit its application in skin protection. To overcome the challenges, Unilever R&D formulated a Glutathione Amino acid Precursors blend (named GAP) to boost GSH de novo synthesis. Objective: Determine whether GAP can boost GSH levels and provide skin protection against stressors. Methods: Normal human epidermal keratinocytes were treated with GAP, with or without stressors, namely, menadione, blue light or pollutants. Ascorbic acid was used as a benchmark. The levels of GSH, glutathione disulfide (GSSG), adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) were quantified. A placebocontrolled clinical study was conducted on 21 female subjects who received product applications and subsequent UV radiation. Tape strip samples were collected from the subjects for GSH and GSSG quantification using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS). The UVprotective effect of GAP was investigated using ex vivo skin. Biomarkers related to DNA damage and the skin barrier were analysed using immunohistochemistry. Results: Glutathione amino acid precursors significantly increased the GSH levels and GSH/GSSG ratio in normal human epidermal keratinocytes. Menadione treatment resulted in excessive ROS production and a decline in ATP levels, which were effectively abrogated by GAP. The protective effects of GAP against menadioneinduced oxidative stress were superior to those of ascorbic acid. In addition, GAP effectively protected the cells against blue light-induced ROS production and pollutant-induced ATP depletion. Topical application of the GAP formulation significantly elevated the skin GSH/GSSG ratio in a clinical study. Ex vivo skin treated with the GAP formulation displayed a reduction in DNA damage and high levels of barrier proteins after UV exposure. Background/Aim: Acid sphingomyelinase deficiency (ASMD) is a rare lysosomal storage disorder characterized by sphingomyelin accumulation causing progressive lung disease, respiratory failure, and death. Patients and Methods: This retrospective observational study used the TriNetX database of electronic health records for 15,108 patients with ASMD from 2000-2020. After exclusions, 8,980 individuals were followed for 10 or 20 years. Outcomes included incidence and prevalence of respiratory disorders. Associations of age, sex and race were assessed. Results: Nearly all respiratory outcomes increased significantly over 20 versus 10 years. Other respiratory disorders, specified respiratory disorders and secondary pulmonary hypertension exhibited the greatest increases, reflecting progressive lung damage in ASMD. While outcomes were poor overall, older age, male sex, and racial minority status associated with greater risks, indicating differences in disease progression or care. Conclusion: This study confirms the progressive nature of ASMD and need for close monitoring and treatment of pulmonary complications to reduce long-term morbidity and mortality. Background/Aim: Fabry disease, an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder, causes progressive globotriaosylceramide accumulation in cells throughout the body. Characteristic multiorgan manifestations include renal dysfunction (Fabry nephropathy) and associated urinary tract complications. Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) has been available since 2001, but contemporary real-world data are lacking regarding Fabry nephropathy risks and treatment outcomes. Patients and Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed electronic medical records data for 10,637 Fabry disease patients from the TriNetX research database. Kidney and urinary tract outcomes were evaluated over two decades, 2000-2010 and 2011-2020. Outcomes assessed included chronic kidney disease (CKD), urinary tract infections, urinary incontinence, obstruction, renal insufficiency, and endstage renal disease (ESRD). Results: The prevalence of stage 4- 5 CKD nearly doubled between 2000-2010 and 2011-2020, while ESRD prevalence rose over 4-fold. Incidence rates showed similar marked elevations across renal and urologic complications. Females and Black patients experienced disproportionate escalations in kidney and urinary tract morbidity. Conclusion: This large cohort study revealed significantly increased Fabry nephropathy and associated urologic complications over the past two decades, contradicting expectations of reduced morbidity with ERT availability. The findings highlight needs to optimize screening, treatment strategies, monitoring practices, and address disparities to curb rising disease burden and improve patient outcomes. Background/Aim: Gaucher disease (GD) is a rare lysosomal storage disorder that can involve the lungs and pulmonary vasculature. The long-term effects of GD on respiratory health remain unclear due to limited data on the natural history of this disease. We analyzed electronic health records for 11,004 patients with GD over 10-20 years to determine the incidence of pulmonary hypertension (PH), lung disease, and other respiratory comorbidities and better understand disease course to guide management. Patients and Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX research database of 130 million international patients. The incidence of primary/secondary PH, pulmonary heart disease, interstitial/obstructive/restrictive lung disease, pulmonary hemorrhage, and pulmonary embolism was assessed in patients with GD from 2000-2020. Results: Incidence rates of all conditions assessed increased from 10 to 20 years of follow-up. Excess risk of PH, lung disease, and pulmonary hemorrhage was significantly higher in GD patients after 20 versus 10 years. Conclusion: Extended follow-up in GD is associated with substantially higher risks of PH, lung disease and other respiratory comorbidities, highlighting the need for close monitoring and early intervention to mitigate long-term pulmonary decline. Improved understanding of mechanisms driving respiratory deterioration can support the development of novel treatments to optimize outcomes in this population at high risk of pulmonary morbidity and mortality. Objective. Lupus nephritis (LN), a common manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus, is associated with a higher risk of kidney failure and death. The renal pathology of LN helps elucidate the severity of inflammation and the extent of irreversible damage. We aimed to identify histologic variables that correlate with risks of kidney failure and mortality. Methods. Between 2006 and 2019, a total of 526 patients with LN were enrolled. Renal pathology was classified according to the International Society of Nephrology/Renal Pathology Society classification. Components of activity and chronicity indices were analyzed to determine which variables correlated with an increased risk of kidney failure and death, with the adjustment of potential confounders. Results. During the follow-up period (median 7.5, IQR 3.5-10.7 years), 58 patients progressed to kidney failure and 64 died. In the multivariate Cox regression analysis, tubular atrophy (hazard ratio [HR] 2.28, 95% CI 1.66-3.14) and tubulointerstitial inflammation (HR 3.13, 95% CI 1.34-7.33) predicted kidney failure. The renal outcome was even worse if tubular atrophy and tubulointerstitial inflammation coexisted (10-year kidney survival rate: 63.22%). The presence of cellular crescents was associated with an increased risk of death in male patients with LN (HR 1.91, 95% CI 1.02-3.57), whereas the presence of fibrous crescents predicted death in female patients with LN (HR 5.70, 95% CI 1.61-20.25). Objective: Although endoscopic drill has the advantages in manipulation and hemostasis, whose low efficiency and blurred vision reduce the efficacy of lumbar endoscopic unilateral laminotomy with bilateral decompression (LE-ULBD). The present study was designed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of full-visualized trephine/osteotome in the LE-ULBD surgery for severe lumbar stenosis. Methods: Fifty-seven severe lumbar stenosis patients who underwent LE-ULBD between January 2020 to January 2023 were enrolled, who were divided into drill and visualized trephine groups. The medical records including demographics, operative duration, intraoperative electrophysiological findings, postoperative hospital stay or hospital stay, postoperative outcomes and complications were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. Results: A total of 57 patients included 15 in drill and 42 in trephine group were enrolled in the study. There was significant difference in the pre- and postoperative visual analogue scale and Oswestry Disability Index scores in both groups (p < 0.05). The mean operative duration in the trephine group (101.05 ± 12.18 minutes) was shorter than that in the drill group (134.67 ± 9.68 minutes) (p < 0.05). There was no statistical difference between the 2 groups in electrophysiological monitoring, posthospital stays, postoperative outcomes and complications. Abnormal free-electromyography (EMG) were recorded in 2 (13.3%) and 5 patients (11.9%) in the drill and trephine group. Intraoperative somatosensory evoked potential changes occurred in 3 (20%) and 3 patients (7.1%) in the drill and trephine group and all patients recovered immediately when surgery ended. No serious complications and recurrence occurred in all the patients. Conclusion: Full-visualized trephine/osteotome has been approved to be convenient, safe and efficient in our study, which combined with translaminar inside-out technique and EMG monitoring especially free-EMG may offer a new choice in LE-ULBD surgery for lumbar stenosis patients. Introduction: A growing body of evidence suggests that parental substance abuse, even prior to conception, may induce phenotypic changes in offspring. Parental opioid exposure has been shown to affect developmental processes, induce memory deficits, and lead to psycho-emotional disorders in offspring. However, how parental, especially paternal, chronic drug exposure affects offspring remains unexplored. Methods: Adult male rats were subjected to 31 days of heroin selfadministration followed by mating with naïve females. Litter size and body weight of F1 offspring were recorded. Object-based attention tests, cocaine self-administration tests, and hot plate tests were used to test for potential effects of chronic paternal heroin seeking on cognition, reward, or analgesic sensitivity in the offspring. Results: Body weight and litter size of the heroin F1 generation were not altered compared to the saline F1 generation. Furthermore, paternal chronic heroin selfadministration experience had no significant effect on object-based attention tests or cocaine self-administration behavior in either sex. However, in the hot plate test, although no difference in basal latency was found between the two groups in either sex, a significant increase in the analgesic effect of heroin was observed in the male heroin F1 generation. Conclusions: Taken together, these data provide evidence that paternal chronic heroin self-administration experience could sex-dimorphically increase the analgesic effect of heroin in male offspring, but had no significant effect on response to cocaine reinforcement or attentional behavior. Background: Proteus mirabilis is one of the pathogens commonly causing urinary tract infections (UTIs). The molybdate-binding protein ModA encoded by modA binds molybdate with high affinity and transports it. Increasing evidence shows that ModA promotes the survival of bacteria in anaerobic environments and participates in bacterial virulence by obtaining molybdenum. However, the role of ModA in the pathogenesis of P. mirabilis remains unknown. Results: In this study, a series of phenotypic assays and transcriptomic analyses were used to study the role of ModA in the UTIs induced by P. mirabilis. Our data showed that ModA absorbed molybdate with high affinity and incorporated it into molybdopterin, thus affecting the anaerobic growth of P. mirabilis. Loss of ModA enhanced bacterial swarming and swimming and up-regulated the expression of multiple genes in flagellar assembly pathway. The loss of ModA also resulted in decreased biofilm formation under anaerobic growth conditions. The modA mutant significantly inhibited bacterial adhesion and invasion to urinary tract epithelial cells and down-regulated the expression of multiple genes associated with pilus assembly. Those alterations were not due to anaerobic growth defects. In addition, the decreased bacteria in the bladder tissue, the weakened inflammatory damage, the low level of IL-6, and minor weight change was observed in the UTI mouse model infected with modA mutant. Conclusion: Here, we reported that in P. mirabilis, ModA mediated the transport of molybdate, thereby affecting the activity of nitrate reductase and thus affecting the growth of bacteria under anaerobic conditions. Overall, this study clarified the indirect role of ModA in the anaerobic growth, motility, biofilm formation, and pathogenicity of P. mirabilis and its possible pathway, and emphasized the importance of the molybdate-binding protein ModA to P. mirabilis in mediating molybdate uptake, allowing the bacterium to adapt to complex environmental conditions and cause UTIs. This paper proposes a team orienteering problem with time windows considering multiple deliverymen (TOPTWMD), which arises from practical situations where firms deliver goods to customers in congested urban areas. In addition to the routing and scheduling decisions, the crew size for each route also has to be decided. Adapted from iterative three-component heuristic (I3CH), an enhanced heuristic is designed for this problem. Integrating two effective methods and the alteration between feasible and infeasible regions, the proposed heuristic finally consists of three components, including (i) an iterated local search in feasible region, (ii) a tabu search in infeasible region, and (iii) a route recombination for a high-quality solution. Besides, due to the particularity of deliverymen assignment, some adaptive changes must be made accordingly compared with the original I3CH. The TOPTWMD instances are generated by modifying the Solomon instances. To evaluate the performance of the enhanced heuristic, computational experiments are conducted on a set of 138 instances for comparing enhanced heuristic with CPLEX and original I3CH. Results demonstrate the effectiveness and the stability of the proposed algorithm. Moreover, additional analyses verify that the joint use of the three components and the alteration between feasible and infeasible regions make significant contributions to the performance of the enhanced heuristic. Background: Hyperuricemia and gout are risk factors of nephrolithiasis. However, it is unclear whether the ABCG2 gene contributes to the development of nephrolithiasis. We aimed to investigate the interaction between the ABCG2 rs2231142 variant and incident nephrolithiasis in the Taiwanese population. Methods: A total of 120,267 adults aged 30-70 years were enrolled from the Taiwan Biobank data-base in this retrospective case-control study and genotyped for rs2231142. The primary outcome was the prevalence of self-reported nephrolithiasis. The odds ratio (OR) of incident nephrolithiasis was analyzed by multivariable logistic regression models with adjustment for multifactorial confounding factors. Associations of the ABCG2 rs2231142 variant with serum uric acid levels, and the incident nephrolithiasis were explored. Results: The frequency of rs2231142 T allele was 53%, and 8,410 participants had nephrolithiasis. The multivariable-adjusted OR (95% confidence interval) of nephrolithiasis was 1.18 (1.09-1.28) and 1.12 (1.06-1.18) for TT and GT genotypes, respectively, compared with the GG genotype (p<0.001), specifically in the male population with hyperuricemia. Higher age, male sex, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperuricemia, smoking and overweight were independent risk factors for nephrolithiasis. In contrast, regular physical exercise is a protective factor against nephrolithiasis. Conclusions: ABCG2 genetic variation is a significant risk of nephrolithiasis, independent of serum uric acid levels. For rs2231142 T allele carriers, our result provides evidence for precision healthcare to tackle hyperuricemia, comorbidities, smoking, and overweight, and recommend regular physical exercise for the prevention of nephrolithiasis. BACKGROUND: Bio-pesticide development is an important area of research in agriculture, in which viruses are an essential tool. Infection by entomological pathogenic viruses kills agricultural pests, and viral progenies are disseminated to infect more pests, eventually achieving long-term pest control in the field. Of the current virus-based pest control models, Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) is the most studied. AcMNPV belongs to the Baculoviridae family and can infect many lepidopterans. Although AcMNPV has been previously demonstrated to be a potential pest-control tool, its long virus infection cycle has made field applications challenging. To overcome this, we generated a recombinant baculovirus that can express mammalian galectin-1, which is a galactoside-binding protein that binds to the peritrophic matrix in the midgut of lepidopteran pests and induces perforation of the membrane. RESULTS: Hosts infected with a recombinant virus that expressed mammalian galectin-1 exhibited reduced appetite and died sooner in both laboratory and small-scale field studies, suggesting that the overexpression of galectin-1 can more efficiently eliminate pest hosts. In addition to disrupting the integrity of the peritrophic matrix, the immune system of hosts infected with recombinant baculovirus carrying the galectin-1 gene was suppressed, making hosts more vulnerable to secondary infection. CONCLUSION: Galectin-1 has been shown to affect immune responses in mammals, including humans, but to our knowledge, the effect of galectin-1 on insect immune systems had not been previously reported. As the most common histological subtype of primary lung cancer, lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) causes enormous cancer deaths worldwide. Radiotherapy has been frequently used in LUAD cases, and radiosensitivity is vital for LUAD therapy. This research sought to explore the genetic factors affecting radiosensitivity in LUAD and inner mechanisms. LINC00511, miR-497-5p, and SMAD3 expression in LUAD cells were detected via qRT-PCR and western blot. CCK-8 assays, colony formation, and flow cytometry assays were employed to explore the cell viability, apoptosis, and radiosensitivity in PC-9 and A549 cells. The targeting relationship between LINC00511, miR-497-5p, and SMAD3 was verified by dual luciferase reporter assay. Furthermore, xenograft experiments were performed for the in vivo verification. In conclusion, LINC00511 was overexpressed in LUAD cells, which downregulated downstream miR-497-5p expression and mediately led to SMAD3 activation. LINC00511 downregulation suppressed cell viability while enhanced apoptosis rate in LUAD cells. Also, LINC00511 and SMAD3 were overexpressed, while miR-497-5p was downregulated in LUAD cells exposed to 4Gy irradiation treatment. Moreover, LINC00511 inhibition could block SMAD3 expression and promoted the radiosensitivity both in vitro and in vivo. These findings uncover LINC00511 knockdown promoted miR-497-5p expression and subsequently led to lower SMAD3 level, which enhanced radiosensitivity in LUAD cells. Patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) often develop drug resistance after treatment with enzalutamide. The goal of our study was to identify the key genes related to enzalutamide resistance in CRPC and to provide new gene targets for future research on improving the efficacy of enzalutamide. Differential expression genes (DEGs) associated with enzalutamide were obtained from the GSE151083 and GSE150807 datasets. We used R software, the DAVID database, protein–protein interaction networks, the Cytoscape program, and Gene Set Cancer Analysis for data analysis. The effect of RAD51 knockdown on prostate cancer (PCa) cell lines was demonstrated using Cell Counting Kit-8, clone formation, and transwell migration experiments. Six hub genes with prognostic values were screened (RAD51, BLM, DTL, RFC2, APOE, and EXO1), which were significantly associated with immune cell infiltration in PCa. High RAD51, BLM, EXO1, and RFC2 expression was associated with androgen receptor signaling pathway activation. Except for APOE, high expression of hub genes showed a significant negative correlation with the IC50 of Navitoclax and NPK76-II-72-1. RAD51 knockdown inhibited the proliferation and migration of PC3 and DU145 cell lines and promoted apoptosis. Additionally, 22Rv1 cell proliferation was more significantly inhibited with RAD51 knockdown than without RAD51 knockdown under enzalutamide treatment. Overall, six key genes associated with enzalutamide resistance were screened (RAD51, BLM, DTL, RFC2, APOE, and EXO1), which are potential therapeutic targets for enzalutamide-resistant PCa in the future. With the expansion of the semiconductor industry, determining the huge associated water and energy consumption and accomplishing sustainable development can be key issues for this industry. This study surveyed the sustainability reports of 28 semiconductor corporations and summarized their environmental stewardship information. Overall, the total water withdrawal in 2021 was 7.89 × 108 m³, total energy consumption was 1.49 × 1011 kWh, and total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were 7.15 × 107 tons CO2 equivalent. The total Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions were 2.74 and 4.41 × 107 t CO2 equivalent, respectively. Surface water intake, municipal water supply, groundwater withdrawal, third party supply, and external reclaimed water intake accounted for 47.0%, 35.3%, 8.5%, 5.8%, and 3.2% of total water use, respectively. Electricity, fossil fuel, renewable energy, and others accounted for 83.7%, 12.0%, 2.7%, and 1.7% of the total energy use. In 2021, average water use, energy consumption, and GHG emissions were calculated to be 8.22 L/cm², 1.15 kWh/cm², and 0.84 kg CO2 equivalent/cm2, respectively, based on announced data. Ultrapure water consumption was predicted to be 5.51 and 0.95 × 108 m³ worldwide and for China, respectively. Semiconductor manufacturing is a rapidly growing industry and water-intensive industry. Water strategy formulation and decisions can be crucial factors in realizing the sustainable development of the semiconductor industry. This study surveyed the sustainability reports of 24 semiconductor corporations and investigated their water strategies and practices. Water targets proposed in the early stage of the 21st century are summarized. Water recycling, reuse, and restoration were the main strategies. Reverse osmosis played a dominant role in water treatment and reclamation. Classified wastewater collection and separate treatment systems have contributed greatly to improvement of water recycling rate in industrial parks. Finally, a future water cycle system for semiconductor manufacturing parks is proposed, which comprises water source, water use and recycling, and water discharge. This study is of theoretical and practical significance for the formulation and implementation of water strategies in the semiconductor industry to help accomplish its sustainable development with rapid growth. Sulfur is an essential macronutrient for the growth of all photosynthetic organisms and plays important roles in different metabolic pathways. However, sulfur metabolism and its related research on macroalgae with important ecological value is rather limited. In this study, marine ecological valued macroalga Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis was used to study the general physiological responses and transcriptome profiling under the sulfate deficiency. The relative growth rate of algae under sulfate deficiency was statistically significantly lower than that of control after 6 days. However, no significant differences were observed in the pigments content and Fv/Fm value, indicating that the photosynthesis was not obviously affected under the sulfate deficiency. Furthermore, the significantly increased soluble protein and carbohydrate contents, and indistinctively differentially expressed sulfate transporter/permease (ST) and ATP sulfurylase (ATPS) genes suggesting that G. lemaneiformis cells did not use sulfur from internal protein and carbohydrate pools but utilize stored sulfur from vacuole to satisfy their nutritional requirements during the sulfate deficiency. Transcriptome data showed that most annotated differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were down-regulated under the sulfate deficiency, including a large proportion of genes involved in the pathway of sulfur metabolism. Therefore, it was concluded that the pathway of sulfur metabolism was suppressed under the sulfate deficiency in G. lemaneiformis. Enhanced carotenoid accumulation in plants is crucial for the nutritional and health demands of the human body since these beneficial substances are acquired through dietary intake. Plastids are the major organelles to accumulate carotenoids in plants and it is reported that manipulation of a single plastid phosphate transporter gene enhances carotenoid accumulation. Amongst all phosphate transport proteins including phosphate transporters (PHTs), plastidial phosphate translocators (pPTs), PHOSPHATE1 (PHO1), vacuolar phosphate efflux transporter (VPE), and Sulfate transporter [SULTR]- like phosphorus distribution transporter (SPDT) in plants, plastidic PHTs (PHT2 & PHT4) are found as the only clade that is plastid located, and manipulation of which affects carotenoid accumulation. Manipulation of a single chromoplast PHT (PHT4;2) enhances carotenoid accumulation, whereas manipulation of a single chloroplast PHT has no impact on carotenoid accumulation. The underlying mechanism is mainly attributed to their different effects on plastid orthophosphate (Pi) concentration. PHT4;2 is the only chromoplast Pi efflux transporter, and manipulating this single chromoplast PHT significantly regulates chromoplast Pi concentration. This variation subsequently modulates the carotenoid accumulation by affecting the supply of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate, a substrate for carotenoid biosynthesis, by modulating the transcript abundances of carotenoid biosynthesis limited enzyme genes, and by regulating chromoplast biogenesis (facilitating carotenoid storage). However, at least five orthophosphate influx PHTs are identified in the chloroplast, and manipulating one of the five does not substantially modulate the chloroplast Pi concentration in a long term due to their functional redundancy. This stable chloroplast Pi concentration upon one chloroplast PHT absence, therefore, is unable to modulate Pi-involved carotenoid accumulation processes and finally does affect carotenoid accumulation in photosynthetic tissues. Despite these advances, several cases including the precise location of plastid PHTs, the phosphate transport direction mediated by these plastid PHTs, the plastid PHTs participating in carotenoid accumulation signal pathway, the potential roles of these plastid PHTs in leaf carotenoid accumulation, and the roles of these plastid PHTs in other secondary metabolites are waiting for further research. Background: Aspergillus diseases are frequently encountered in patients who are immunocompromised. Without a prompt diagnosis, the clinical consequences may be lethal. Aspergillus-specific antibodies have been widely used to facilitate the diagnosis of Aspergillus diseases. To date, universally standardized cut-off values have not been established. This study aimed to investigate the cut-off values of Aspergillus-specific antibodies and perform a narrative review to depict the geographic differences in the Taiwanese population. Methods: We analyzed enrolled 118 healthy controls, 29 patients with invasive aspergillosis (IA), chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA), and allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) and 99 with disease control, who were tested for Aspergillus fumigatus and Aspergillus niger-specific IgG and IgE using ImmunoCAP. 99 participants not fulfilling the diagnosis of IA, CPA, and ABPA were enrolled in the disease control group. The duration of retrieval of medical records from June 2018 to September 2021. Optimal cutoffs and association were determined using receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis. Results: We found that patients with CPA had the highest A. fumigatus-specific IgG levels while patients with ABPA had the highest A. fumigatus-specific IgE, and A. niger-specific IgG and IgE levels. In patients with CPA and ABPA, the optimal cut-offs of A. fumigatus-specific IgG and A. niger-specific IgG levels were 41.6, 40.8, 38.1, and 69.9 mgA/l, respectively. Geographic differences in the cut-off values of A. fumigatus-specific IgG were also noted. Specifically, the levels were different in eco-climatic zones. Conclusion: We identified the optimal cut-offs of Aspergillus-specific antibodies to facilitate a precise diagnosis of aspergillosis. The observed geographic differences of the antibody levels suggest that an eco-climatic-specific reference is needed to facilitate a prompt and accurate diagnosis of aspergillosis. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been extensively studied as important regulators of tumor development in various cancers. Tumor protein 53 target gene 1 (TP53TG1) is a newly identified lncRNA in recent years, and several studies have shown that TP53TG1 may play oncogenic or anti-oncogenic roles in different cancers. Nevertheless, the role of TP53TG1 in the development of cervical cancer is unclear. In our study, pan-cancer analysis showed that high expression of TP53TG1 was significantly associated with a better prognosis. We then constructed a TP53TG1 overexpression model in HeLa cell line to explore its functions and molecular targets. We found that TP53TG1 overexpression significantly inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis, demonstrating that TP53TG1 may be a novel anti-oncogenic factor in cervical cancer. Furthermore, overexpression of TP53TG1 could activate type I interferon signaling pathways and inhibit the expression of genes involved in DNA damage responses. Meanwhile, TP53TG1 could affect alternative splicing of genes involved in cell proliferation or apoptosis by regulating the expression of many RNA-binding protein genes. Competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network analysis demonstrated that TP53TG1 could act as the sponge of several miRNAs to regulate the expression level of target genes. The coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic has caused more than 532 million infections and 6.3 million deaths to date. The reactive and neutralizing fully human antibodies of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) are effective detection tools and therapeutic measures. During SARSCoV-2 infection, a large number of SARS-CoV-2 reactive and neutralizing antibodies will be produced. Most SARS-CoV-2 reactive and neutralizing fully human antibodies are isolated from human and frequently encoded by convergent heavy-chain variable genes. However, SARS-CoV-2 viruses can mutate rapidly during replication and the resistant variants of neutralizing antibodies easily survive and evade the immune response, especially in the face of such focused antibody responses in humans. Therefore, additional tools are needed to develop different kinds of fully human antibodies to compensate for current deficiency. In this study, we utilized antibody humanized CAMouseHG mice to develop a rapid antibody discovery method and examine the antibody repertoire of SARS-CoV-2 RBD-reactive hybridoma cells derived from CAMouseHG mice by using high-throughput single-cell V (D)J sequencing analysis. CAMouseHG mice were immunized by 28-day rapid immunization method. After electrofusion and semi-solid medium screening on day 12 post-electrofusion, 171 hybridoma clones were generated based on the results of SARS-CoV-2 RBD binding activity assay. A rather obvious preferential usage of IGHV6-1 family was found in these hybridoma clones derived from CAMouseHG mice, which was significantly different from the antibodies found in patients with COVID-19. After further virus neutralization screening and antibody competition assays, we generated a noncompeting two-antibody cocktail, which showed a potent prophylactic protective efficacy against SARS-CoV-2 in cynomolgus macaques. These results indicate that humanized CAMouseHG mice not only provide a valuable platform to obtain fully human reactive and neutralizing antibodies but also have a different antibody repertoire from humans. Context: Nephropathy is a severe complication of type 1 diabetes (T1DM). However, the interaction between the PDHA1-regulated mechanism and CD4+ T cells in the early stage of kidney tubular injury remains unknown. Objective: To evaluate the role of PDHA1 in the regulation of tubular cells and CD4+ T cells and further to study its interaction in tubular cell injury in T1DM. Methods: Plasma and total RNA were collected from T cells of T1DM patients (n = 35) and healthy donors (n = 33) and evaluated for neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), kidney injury molecule-1, PDHA1, and biomarkers of CD4+ T cells including T helper 1 cells (Th1) and regulatory T cells (Treg) markers. HK-2 cells cocultured with CD4+ T cells from T1DM patients or healthy donors (HDs) to evaluate the interaction with CD4+ T cells. Results: Increased PDHA1 gene expression levels in CD4+ T cells were positively associated with the plasma level of NGAL in T1DM patients and HDs. Our data demonstrated that the Th1/Treg subsets skewed Th1 in T1DM. Knockdown of PDHA1 in kidney tubular cells decreased ATP/ ROS production, NAD/NADH ratio, mitochondrial respiration, and cell apoptosis. Furthermore, PDHA1 depletion induced impaired autophagic fux. Coculture of tubular cells and T1DM T cells showed impaired CPT1A, upregulated FASN, and induced kidney injury. Conclusion: Our fndings indicate that Th1 cells induced tubular cell injury through dysregulated metabolic reprogramming and autophagy, thereby indicating a new therapeutic approach for kidney tubular injury in T1DM. Background/Aim: The T cell's flexibility of the immune system to be regulated affects the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D). However, the mechanisms of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and inflammasome activation in the circulating CD3+CD56+ T cells of patients with T1D remain unclear. This study evaluated the role of CD3+CD56+ T cells in T1D and their correlations with ER stress, inflammasome activation and disease characteristics. Materials and Methods: The frequency of circulating CD3+CD56+ T cells was determined using flow cytometry in healthy individuals and patients with T1D. Calnexin, NLR family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3), ASC, caspase-1 (Casp1), cleaved caspase-3 (C-Casp3), and annexin V (AnnV) expression and propidium iodide staining in CD3+/CD56+ T cells were analyzed using flow cytometry. Results: The frequency of CD3+CD56+ T cells was reduced in patients with T1D relative to that in healthy individuals. In addition, high calnexin, NLRP3, ASC and Casp1 expression in CD3+CD56+ T cells was negatively correlated with the percentage of CD3+CD56+ T cells in patients with T1D. Conclusion: ER stress, inflammasome activation, and a lower peripheral frequency of circulating CD3+CD56+ T cells might indicate disease progression and necessitate clinical T1D immunological self-tolerance monitoring. The invasive Argentine ants (Linepithema humile) and the red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) constitute a worldwide threat, causing severe disruption to ecological systems and harming human welfare. In view of the limited success of current pest control measures, we propose here to employ repellents as means to mitigate the effect of these species. We demonstrate that cuticular hydrocarbons (CHCs) used as nestmate-recognition pheromone in the Japanese carpenter ant (Camponotus japonicus), and particularly its (Z)-9-tricosene component, induced vigorous olfactory response and intense aversion in these invasive species. (Z)-9-Tricosene, when given to their antennae, caused indiscriminate glomerular activation of antennal lobe (AL) regions, creating neural disarray and leading to aversive behavior. Successful interaction in the target language requires L2 learners to use and understand the grammatically correct language. At the same time, the language used is expected to produce socioculturally appropriate utterances that it refers to their Pragmatic competence. Objectives: To investigate the differences between the vector vaccine ChAdOx1 nCoV-19/AZD1222 (Oxford-AstraZeneca) and mRNA-based vaccine mRNA-1273 (Moderna) in patients with autoimmune rheumatic diseases (AIRD), and to explore the cell-cell interactions between high and low anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG levels in patients with rheumatic arthritis (RA) using single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq). Methods: From September 16 to December 10, 2021, we consecutively enrolled 445 participants (389 patients with AIRD and 56 healthy controls), of whom 236 were immunized with AZD1222 and 209 with mRNA-1273. The serum IgG antibodies to the SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain was quantified by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay at 4-6 weeks after vaccination. Moreover, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were isolated from RA patients at 4-6 weeks after vaccination for scRNA-seq and further analyzed by CellChat. ScRNA-seq of PBMCs samples from GSE201534 in the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database were also extracted for analysis. Results: The anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG seropositivity rate was 85.34% for AIRD patients and 98.20% for healthy controls. The anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG level was higher in patients receiving mRNA-1273 than those receiving AZD1222 (b: 35.25, 95% CI: 14.81-55.68, p=0.001). Prednisolone-equivalent dose >5 mg/ day and methotrexate use in AIRD patients, and non-anti-tumor necrosis factor-a biologics and Janus kinase inhibitor use in RA patients were associated with inferior immunogenicity. ScRNA-seq revealed CD16- monocytes were predominant in RA patients with high anti-SARS-CoV2-IgG antibodies, and enriched pathways related to antigen presentation via MHC class II were found. HLA-DRA and CD4 interaction was enhanced in high anti)SARS-CoV2-IgG group. Conclusions: mRNA-1273 and AZD1222 vaccines exhibited differential immunogenicity in AIRD patients. Enriched pathways related to antigen presentation via MHC class II in CD16- monocytes might be associated with higher anti-SARS-CoV2-IgG level in RA patients and further study is warranted. Introduction: This study aimed to explore the novel classification of inpatients with new-onset diabetes in Eastern China by the cluster-based classification method and compare the clinical characteristics among the different subgroups. Methods: A total of 1017 Inpatients with new-onset diabetes of five hospitals in Eastern China were included in the study. Clustering analysis was used to cluster the data into five subgroups according to six basic variables. The differences in clinical characteristics, treatments, and the prevalence of diabetes-related diseases among the five subgroups were analyzed by multiple groups comparisons and pairwise comparisons. The risk of diabetes-related diseases in the five subgroups was compared by calculating odd ratio (OR). P value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Five subgroups were obtained by clustering analysis with the highest proportion of patients with severe insulin-deficient diabetes (SIDD) 451 (44.35%), followed by patients with mild age-related diabetes (MARD) 236 (23.21%), patients with mild obesity-related diabetes (MOD) 207 (20.35%), patients with severe insulin-resistant diabetes (SIRD) 81 (7.96%), and patients with severe autoimmune diabetes (SAID) 42 (4.13%). Five subtypes had their own unique characteristics and treatments. The prevalence and risk of diabetes-related complications and comorbidities were also significantly different among the five subtypes. Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) was the most common in SIRD group. Patients in SIDD, SIRD, and MARD groups were more likely to develop cardiovascular disease (CVD) and/or stroke, diabetic peripheral vascular disease (DPVD), and diabetic distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DSPN). The prevalence and risk of metabolic syndrome (MS) were the highest in MOD and SIRD groups. Patients in SAID group had the highest prevalence and risk of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). Patients with MOD were more likely to develop non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Conclusions: The inpatients with new-onset diabetes in Eastern China had the unique clustering distribution. The clinical characteristics, treatments, and diabetes-related complications and comorbidities of the five subgroups were different, which may provide the basis for precise treatments of diabetes. Underwater supersonic gas jet flows are sophisticated physical phenomena that widely exist in underwater propulsion, such as underwater rocket, high-speed torpedo, and water-piercing missile launcher (WPML). The present study aims to explore the characteristics of underwater supersonic jets. This research carries out two-dimensional and three-dimensional underwater jet experiments and establishes an improved spherical bubble model to study the transient and steady-state characteristics of the underwater supersonic jet. The simulation results show that the entrainment strength and anti-interference ability are the main factors affecting the transient characteristics of underwater supersonic jets. The experimental results show that the jet angle increases with increasing pressure and the increased rate of the jet angle decreases with increasing pressure. The jet pulsation exists in the entire experimental pressure range from 0.4 MPa to 6.5 MPa. The frequency of back-attack increases first and then decreases with increasing pressure in the chamber. Background: Golden Syrian hamster (GSH) have many advantages as animal models in preclinical research, but their application is currently limited by the lack of standardized techniques for analyzing gene expression. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) is a sensitive method for analyzing gene expression, but its reliability depends upon the selection of stable reference ("housekeeping") genes for proper normalization. The current study was aimed to RT-qPCR for investigated to determine the stability housekeeping gene in golden Syrian hamster. Methods: During the period of June 2019 to October 2019, the expression stability of eight commonly-used housekeeping genes (glyceraldehyde-3phosphate dehydrogenase, Gapdh; b-actin, Actb; hypoxanthine phosphoribosyl transferase 1, Hprt1; ribosomal protein L13a, Rpl13a; ribosomal protein S18, Rps18; Beta-2-microglobulin, B2m; Tubulin beta class I, Tubb; Tyrosine 3-monooxygenase/tryptophan 5-monooxygenase activation protein zeta, Ywhaz) were investigated in lung, liver, spleen and pancreatic tissue of golden Syrian hamsters using Bestkeeper, geNorm, NormFinder software, comparative delta Ct method and RefFinder. Result: It was found that the stability of gene expression varied among tissue where in Actb was the most stably expressed housekeeping gene for lung tissue, Hprt1 for liver, Rpl13a for spleen and Tubb for pancreatic tissue. In contrast, the least stable housekeeping gene in both liver and spleen was Gapdh, Rps18 in pancreas and Ywhaz in lung tissue. To investigate whether butyric acid could alleviate chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH)-induced lipid formation in human preadipocytes-subcutaneous (HPA-s) through accumulation of human antigen R (HuR) and inactivation of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathway, HPA-s were obtained and divided into three groups: Control group: cells were cultured under normal conditions; CIH group: cells were cultured in a three-gas incubator (10% O2); Butyric acid group: 10 mmol/l butyric acid added into cell culture medium. HuR-siRNA was futher transfected into CIH group for verification the function of HuR. Oil Red O was implemented for observation of lipid droplets within cells. Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8) assay was used for detecting cell viability. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated deoxyuridine triphosphate-nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay as well as flow cytometry analysis was employed for determining cell apoptosis. Western blotting was used for measurement of protein expression levels. RT-qPCR analysis was used for detecting mRNA expression. CIH treatment increased adipocytes proliferation, while butyric acid inhibited cell proliferation and promoted cell apoptosis. The treatment of butyric acid in CIH group down-regulated expression of inflammatory factors and increased cell apoptotic rate. Butyric acid treatment increased HuR expression in both cytoplasm and nucleus and decreased the level of p-AMPK and p-ACC, while transfection of AMPK activator or HuR-siRNA would down-regulate HuR expression. Moreover, butyric acid alleviated CIH-induced cell proliferation, lipid formation and inflammatory status and promoted cell apoptosis through regulating related genes including p21, PPARγ, C/EBPa, IL-1ß, IL-6, TLR4, caspase-8 and caspase-3. Purpose: We aimed to explore the imaging findings of computed tomography (CT) in diagnosing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its clinical value for further evaluation of suspected cases.Methods: Files of 155 patients visiting the fever clinics at our hospital and affiliated hospitals from January 20th to February 9th, 2020 were searched. Among them, 140 cases (including 82 males and 58 females) were included as suspected COVID-19 cases based on clinical and epidemiological history; the CT image features of 70 cases with suggestive findings on CT, confirmed by positive nucleic acid test were analyzed and evaluated. The sensitivity and specificity of CT in diagnosing COVID-19 were evaluated in patients with epidemiological history.Results: Of the 70 patients, 84.3% showed bilateral lung involvement on CT; 27 cases (38.6%) showed ground-glass opacity (GGO), which was mostly distributed in the subpleural area (55.7%), and this sign was mainly observed in early COVID-19 patients. In addition, 41 cases (58.6%) manifested GGO combined with focal consolidation opacity, 2 (2.8%) had flake-like consolidation opacity, with involvements of the periphery of lung field and the central zone (44.3%), and this sign was mostly observed in severe or critical patients. Concomitant signs such as pleural effusion and mediastinal lymph node enlargement were rare. Among patients with epidemiological history, the sensitivity of CT in diagnosing COVID-19 was 89.7% (70/78), and the specificity was 88.7% (55/62).Conclusion: CT shows high sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing COVID-19. Magnesium is a biocompatible and biodegradable metal, which has attracted much interest in biomedical engineering. Cast magnesium alloy shows the low strength and plasticity at ambient temperature. Microstructure, mechanical properties and degradation properties of the extrusion pressed magnesium alloy have been investigated for biomedical application in detail by optical microscopes, mechanical properties testing and corrosion testing. The magnesium alloy ingots were gained by different cooling rate. Then the ingots were extrude into bar at the same processing condition. The results show that the cooling rate of cast ingot is important factors that affect the properties of Mg alloy by dynamic recrystallisation extruding. The cooling rate of cast ingot has been successfully applied to control the microstructure, mechanical and degradation properties of the Mg alloy. Optical microscopy observation has indicated that the grain size of the dynamic recrystallisation extruding has been significantly decreased from fast cooling cast magnesium ingot, which has mainly contributed to the high tensile strength and good elongation. Fasting cooling rate of cast ingot and dynamic recrystallisation extruding has provided moderate corrosion resistance, which has opened a new window for materials design, especially for biomedical.
