Purpose: To investigate bone regeneration among three different bone graft materials in a rat calvarum model. Materials and Methods: A total of 24 rats had two 5-mm defects placed per calvarial. Rats were divided into four groups: bovine xenograft (XG), demineralized bone matrix (DBM), mineralized bone graft (MBG), and collagen membrane control (CC). Within each group, samples were collected at two time points: 4 weeks (T4) and 8 weeks (T8). Bone regeneration was assessed by microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) imaging and was analyzed using MATLAB software. Additionally, the fixed samples were subsequently demineralized for immunohistochemistry and histomorphometry. Slides were mounted and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain as well as bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) and runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2) markers. The numbers of positive cells/area were calculated for each group and analyzed. Results: At 4 weeks, DBM showed low mineral density (7.7%) compared to the control (25.2%), but increased dramatically at 8 weeks (DBM, T8 = 27.6%; CC, T8 = 27.2%). Xenograft material showed an increase in mineral desnity between T4 and T8 (XG, T4 = 25.0%; XG, T8 = 32.3%). MBG remained consistent over the 8-week trial period (MBG, T4 = 30.4%; MBG, T8 = 30.4%). BMP-2 expression was present in cells adherent to all graft materials. RUNX2 expression was also observed in cells adherent to all graft materials, indicating that during the 4- to 8-week healing period, all materials supported osteogenesis. Conclusions: Compared to other materials, the DBM had high osteoinductive properties during the 4- to 8-week time period based on increased mineral content. Livestock excretions are crucial for nutrient cycling in pasture ecosystems. However, conventional methods based on field observations require significant human power and are time‐consuming. This study developed a model, 'Dung Detector (DD)', for detecting cattle dung in pastures from drone images using the You Only Look Once (YOLO) v5 algorithm. The DD model was trained using our custom dataset including 1,504 split images from drone orthomosaic images in five paddocks: Obihiro (OBH), Shintoku (STK), Minokamo (MNO), Miyota (MYT), and Yatsugatake (YGK). The detection accuracy was evaluated using ground‐truth data acquired in two quadrats within paddocks. The DD model performed well for OBH and STK (F‐score = 0.861 and 0.835) paddocks with simple grass species and low surface sward height (SSH). Although the MNO and MYT, with complex vegetation and high SSH, showed few false positives (precision >0.9), some cattle dung pats were undetectable, presumably due to grass height (Recall = 0.500 and 0.276). Objectives To identify and characterize undescribed systemic sclerosis (SSc)-specific autoantibodies targeting nucleolar antigens and to assess their clinical significance. Methods We conducted proteome-wide autoantibody screening (PWAS) against serum samples from SSc patients with nucleolar patterned anti-nuclear antibodies (NUC-ANAs) of specific antibodies (Abs) unknown, utilizing wet protein arrays fabricated from in vitro human proteome. Controls included SSc patients with already-known SSc-specific autoantibodies, patients with other connective tissue diseases and healthy subjects. The selection of nucleolar antigens was performed by database search in the Human Protein Atlas. The presence of autoantibodies was certified by immunoblots and immunoprecipitations. Indirect immunofluorescence assays on HEp-2 cells were also conducted. Clinical assessment was conducted by retrospective review of electronic medical records. Results PWAS identified three candidate autoantibodies, including anti-nuclear valosin-containing protein-like (NVL) Ab. Additional measurements in disease controls revealed that only anti-NVL Abs are exclusively detected in SSc. Detection of anti-NVL Abs was reproduced by conventional assays such as immunoblotting and immunoprecipitation. Indirect immunofluorescence assays demonstrated homogeneous nucleolar patterns. Anti-NVL Ab-positive cases were characterized by significantly low prevalence of diffuse skin sclerosis and interstitial lung disease, compared with SSc cases with NUC-ANAs other than anti-NVL Abs, such as anti-U3-RNP and anti-Th/To Abs. Conclusion Anti-NVL Ab is an SSc-specific autoantibody associated with a unique combination of clinical features, including limited skin sclerosis and lack of lung involvement. Orthetrum sabina is one of the most common dragonflies found in Nepal, but its feeding behavior has not often been reported from there. An example of this species preying on Neurothemis tullia is reported from Maidi Lake, Nepal. This observation was made during a field survey of Odonata using direct observation along transects around the lake. Precisely estimating and controlling the friction of a stone on ice is one of the abilities that is essential for good curling players. We propose here a new, simple, and player-friendly method for measuring friction using only stopwatches. As for friction control, it is known that friction must be modified by sweeping using brushes. It is widely performed not only to extend the stopping range of the stone but also to control the curls, although there is little scientific evidence to support the curl-controlling effects. We conducted a measurement to examine the effects, and we propose a potential method for assisting players to try similar kinds of quantitative studies themselves. In Baton Rouge, LA, and nationally, youth violence is a serious public health problem affecting the lives of community members. Fortunately, Black fathers have responded to the urgent call to prevent youth violence in Louisiana. In 2021, the SUPPORT project was launched to unearth stories of Black fathers' prevention practices and interventions. Since relationships are embedded within and across various systems, the Social-Ecological Model for Violence Prevention was applied to a semi-structured interview approach to investigate two aims with 12 Black fathers from Baton Rouge: (1) how their experiences with youth violence influence their mental and social health, and their children's violence exposure, and (2) the benefits of addressing youth violence. Using Braun and Clarke's (2021) thematic analysis, the three major themes that emerged related to Black fathers' history with violence were: (1) self-reflexive moments on lessons learned, (2) the impacts of victimization and bullying, and (3) socioemotional responses to youth violence. Related to the second aim, the salutary impact on the neighborhood and improvement of the school community were the major themes that emerged regarding the perceived benefits of addressing youth violence. These findings demonstrate that interviewees are cognizant of how their history of violence led to maladaptive coping mechanisms in response to youth violence and influenced their fathering ideologies; moreover, they were concerned with familial betterment. Further research is needed to deepen understanding of how Black fathers' socioemotional responses to youth violence impact their wellness and fathering practices as their children mature. This longitudinal study examines young adult mental health (MH) trajectories after exposure to natural disasters (i.e., hurricanes, wildfires, mudslides) across four waves, two pre- and two during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants (n = 205) answered questions about anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSSs) across Waves (Ws) s 1–4 and pre-pandemic factors (prior trauma history, disaster exposure, life stressors since disaster) at Wave (W) 1. Hierarchical linear modeling was conducted to examine MH trajectories and associations with pre-pandemic factors. Only the PTSS trajectory significantly differed across all Ws, with the largest increase between Ws 2 and 3 (pre- and during-pandemic time points). Cockayne syndrome (CS) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder caused by mutations in ERCC8 or ERCC6. Most pathogenic variants in ERCC8 are single nucleotide substitutions. Structural variants (SVs) have been reported in patients with ERCC8-related CS. However, comprehensive molecular detection, including SVs of ERCC8, in CS patients remains problematic. Herein, we present three Japanese patients with ERCC8-related CS in whom causative SVs were identified using whole-exome-based copy number variation (CNV) detection tools. One patient showed compound heterozygosity for a 259-kb deletion and a deletion of exon 4 which has previously been reported as an Asia-specific variant. The other two patients were homozygous for the same exon 4 deletion. The exon 4 deletion was detected only by the ExomeDepth software. Intrigued by the discrepancy in the detection capability of various tools for the SVs, we evaluated the analytic performance of four whole-exome-based CNV detection tools using an exome data set from 337 healthy individuals. A total of 1,278,141 exons were predicted as being affected by the 4 CNV tools. Interestingly 95.1% of these affected exons were detected by one tool alone. Female mortality is frequently caused by ovarian cancer (OC). Because of its late detection, ovarian cancer seems to have a low survival rate, and new techniques are required for its early identification. One of the more prevalent gynecologic cancers is ovarian cancer. The various diagnoses of ovarian cancer depend on the efficient classification of the various forms. Patients with ovarian tumours require accurate diagnosis. When compared to a deep convolutional neural network, previous neural networks are an outmoded technology that offers fewer characteristics, which demonstrates that deep convolutional layers supply essential and healthy features. To get over these limitations, ovarian tumours are identified using the krill herd optimization-based convolutional neural network (KHO-CNN) mechanism, a novel optimized deep neural network approach. The system analyses datasets related to ultrasound-detected ovarian cancer. The obtained real-world ultrasound images of ovarian cancer also contain additional noise, which is removed using a Wavelet Transform. An enhanced KHO model has been used in the segmentation process. Features were extracted by use of a local binary pattern. Ovarian tumours are classified as benign, malignant, or normal by the KHO-CNN. Pectin is a natural polymer that is found in the cell walls of higher plants. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of pectin extracted from lemon in two different geographic regions (Peddie and Fort Beaufort) in two consecutive years (2023 and 2024) named PP 2023, PP 2024, FBP 2023, and FBP 2024. The dried lemon peels were ground into a powder, sifted to obtain particles of 500 μm, and then subjected to pectin extraction using a conventional method involving mixing lemon peel powder with distilled water, adjusting the pH level to 2.0 with HCl, heating the mixture at 70 °C for 45 min, filtering the acidic extract, and precipitating pectin with ethanol. The yield of these pectin samples was statistically significant, as FBP 2024 had a maximum yield of 12.2 ± 0.02%, PP 2024 had a maximum yield of 13.0 ± 0.02%, FBP 2023 had a maximum yield of 12.2 ± 0.03%, and PP 2023 had a maximum yield of 13.1 ± 0.03%, The variation in yield could be due to the differences in the growing conditions, such as the climate and soil, which could have affected the pectin content in the lemons. The physicochemical characterization of all samples proved that our pectin samples could be used in the pharmaceutical and food industries, with anhydrouronic acid content which was greater than 65%, as suggested by the FAO. The scanning electron microscope analysis of all extracted pectin was rough and jagged, while the commercial pectin displayed a smooth surface morphology with a consistent size. FTIR confirmed the functional groups which were present in our samples. Thermogravimetric analysis was employed to investigate the thermal behavior of the extracted pectin in comparison with commercial pectin. It was found that the extracted pectin had three-step degradation while the commercial pectin had four-step degradation. Additionally, pectin samples have been shown to have antioxidants, as the IC50 of PP 2024, PP 2023, FBP 2023, FBP 2024, and Commercial P was 1062.5 ± 20.0, 1201.3 ± 22.0, 1304.6 ± 19.0, 1382.6 ± 29.9, and 1019.4 ± 17.1 mg/L, respectively. This article discusses a comparative study that examines the effects of imeglimin add-on therapy and metformin dose escalation on glycaemic variability in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The study found that while both treatments resulted in a decrease in mean blood glucose levels, only imeglimin add-on therapy significantly reduced measures of glycaemic variability, such as mean amplitude of glycaemic excursions (MAGE), coefficient of variation (CV), and standard deviation (SD). Sonic hedgehog signaling molecule (SHH) is a key molecule in the cilia‐mediated signaling pathway and a critical morphogen in embryogenesis. The association between loss‐of‐function variants of SHH and holoprosencephaly is well established. In mice experiments, reduced or increased signaling of SHH have been shown to be associated with narrowing or excessive expansion of the facial midline, respectively. Herein, we report two unrelated patients with de novo truncating variants of SHH presenting with hypertelorism rather than hypotelorism. The first patient was a 13‐year‐old girl. Her facial features included hypertelorism, strabismus, telecanthus, malocclusion, frontal bossing, and wide widow's peak. She had borderline developmental delay and agenesis of the corpus callosum. She had a nonsense variant of SHH: Chr7(GRCh38):g.155802987C > T, NM_000193.4:c.1302G > A, p.(Trp434*). The second patient was a 25‐year‐old girl. Her facial features included hypertelorism and wide widow's peak. She had developmental delay and agenesis of the corpus callosum. She had a frameshift variant of SHH: Chr7(GRCh38):g.155803072_155803074delCGGinsT, NM_000193.4:c.1215_1217delCCGinsA, p.(Asp405Glufs*92). The hypertelorism phenotype contrasts sharply with the prototypical hypotelorism‐holoprosencephaly phenotype associated with loss‐of‐function of SHH. Our previous study revealed that over 50% of recipients with pretransplant impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) improved to normal glucose tolerance after kidney transplantation. However, the mechanism is unclear. We aimed to investigate whether the changes in glucose tolerance are associated with β-cell function and insulin resistance in Japanese kidney transplant recipients with pretransplant IGT. Of the 265 recipients who received kidney transplantation, 54 with pretransplant IGT were included. We divided the recipients into improvement and nonimprovement groups according to the change in the area under the curve for glucose obtained from the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). β-Cell function was estimated by the insulin secretion sensitivity index-2 (ISSI-2) and the disposition index (DI). Insulin resistance was estimated by the Matsuda index (MI) and the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR). ISSI-2 and DI increased significantly after transplantation in the improved group (P < 0.01, P < 0.05, respectively), but not in the nonimproved group. ΔISSI-2 and ΔDI were significantly and positively associated with pretransplant 60-min OGTT plasma glucose levels (both P < 0.01). There were no differences in MI or HOMA-IR between these two groups after transplantation. In recipients not on pretransplant dialysis, a significant negative association was found between Δblood urea nitrogen (BUN) and ΔDI (correlation coefficient = −0.48, P < 0.05). In pretransplant IGT recipients, improvements in glucose tolerance after kidney transplantation were linked to improvements in β-cell function. The higher the 60-min OGTT plasma glucose level, the greater the improvement in posttransplant β-cell function. Improvements in BUN after transplantation were associated with improvements in β-cell function. NEW & NOTEWORTHY: In recipients with pretransplant impaired glucose tolerance, improvements in glucose tolerance after kidney transplantation were associated with improvements in β-cell function. The higher the pretransplant 60-min OGTT plasma glucose level, the greater the improvement in posttransplant β-cell function. Objectives: Injury to the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN) causes low‐pitch voice and voice fatigue, particularly in female subjects, and available treatments are limited. Here, we assess a novel surgical procedure to restore a high‐tone voice: ansa cervicalis to EBSLN anastomosis (A‐E anastomosis). Methods: Between November 2012 and April 2022, 13 patients (12 female) underwent unilateral EBSLN resection and A‐E anastomosis, while 20 (16 female) underwent EBSLN resection during thyroid surgery. Patients (4494 women and 1025 men) with normal laryngoscopy scheduled for thyroid surgery served as normal controls. Phonatory function was examined using a Phonation Analyzer PA‐1000 preoperatively and intermittently postoperatively. Results: In patients who underwent A‐E anastomosis, high‐tone voice pitch decreased significantly postoperatively (673.9–471.5 Hz, p = 0.047), with restoration achieved within 5 months. The mean voice pitch in female patients who underwent A‐E anastomosis, EBSLN resection, and controls were 580.4, 522.8, and 682.0 Hz, respectively, indicating a significant decrease in EBSLN resection patients than controls (p = 0.002). The (mean – 1SD) of high‐tone voice pitch in female controls was 497 Hz; exceeding this may indicate recovery to a high‐tone voice. Overall, 73% (8/11) of A‐E anastomosis patients exceeded this value, which was marginally larger than the 43% (6/14) who underwent EBSLN resection. Data on male subjects are limited. There were no cases of adverse functional or cosmetic events. Conclusions: A‐E anastomosis, a novel simple procedure, restored high‐tone voice to some extent without any adverse events and thus warrants further investigation. Background: Malnutrition is a prevalent and hard-to-treat condition in older adults. enteral feeding is common in acute and long-term care. Data regarding the prognosis of patients receiving enteral feeding in geriatric medical settings is lacking. Such data is important for decision-making and preliminary instructions for patients, caregivers, and physicians. This study aimed to evaluate the prognosis and risk factors for mortality among older adults admitted to a geriatric medical center receiving or starting enteral nutrition (EN). Methods: A cohort retrospective study, conducted from 2019 to 2021. Patients admitted to our geriatric medical center who received EN were included. Data was collected from electronic medical records including demographic, clinical, and blood tests, duration of enteral feeding, Norton scale, and Short Nutritional Assessment Questionnaire score. Mortality was assessed during and after hospitalization. Data were compared between survivors and non-survivors. Multivariate logistic regressions were performed to identify the variables most significantly associated with in-hospital mortality. Results: Of 9169 patients admitted, 124 (1.35%) received enteral feeding tubes. More than half of the patients (50.8%) had polypharmacy (over 8 medications), 62% suffered from more than 10 chronic illnesses and the majority of patients (122/124) had a Norton scale under 14. Most of the patients had a nasogastric tube (NGT) (95/124) and 29 had percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies (PEGs). Ninety patients (72%) died during the trial period with a median follow-up of 12.7 months (0.1–62.9 months) and one-year mortality was 16% (20/124). Associations to mortality were found for marital status, oxygen use, and Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW). Age and poly-morbidity were not associated with mortality. Conclusion: In patients receiving EN at a geriatric medical center mortality was lower than in a general hospital. The prognosis remained grim with high mortality rates and low quality of life. Background: Oral semaglutide in older subjects with type 2 diabetes was as effective as in younger subjects, according to phase 3 clinical trials. However, its efficacy can be limited in very aged population, due to the presence of impaired cognitive function and the complex instructions for its use. Here, we investigated its efficacy and safety by further age bracket in older subjects in real-world. Methods: We retrospectively studied subjects > 65 years of age with type 2 diabetes who started oral semaglutide treatment. The primary outcome was the change in glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) over 6 months. Adverse events and cognitive function were evaluated using the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) and the Hasegawa Dementia Rating Scale-revised (HDS-R). The achievement rate of glycemic targets was evaluated based on the age, health status of subjects and their use of anti-diabetic agents which can cause hypoglycemia, with additional analysis between two subgroups; early (65–74) versus late (≥ 75) older. Furthermore, we evaluated the relationships between their improvements in HbA1c and the baseline characteristics of the subjects, including their cognitive function and insulin secretory capacity. Results: We studied the efficacy of the drug in 24 subjects. Their HbA1c and body weight significantly decreased (− 13.1 ± 7.5 mmol/mol and − 3.0 ± 2.4 kg, respectively; P < 0.01). Although cognitive function was lower in the late older group (r = −0.57, P < 0.01), changes in HbA1c showed no difference between the two subgroups (P = 0.66) and it correlated with the insulin secretory capacity rather than cognitive function (r = −0.49, P < 0.05). Glycemic targets were more likely to be achieved (P < 0.01), but HbA1c excessively decreased in late older subjects who were also using insulin or an insulin secretagogue. The frequency of adverse events was similar to that in the clinical trial, whereas discontinuation of medication were more frequent among the late older subjects (Early; n = 2, Late; n = 4). Conclusions: Oral semaglutide improves the glycemic control of older subjects, but it might be a risk for potential hypoglycemia and discontinuation because of adverse events in subjects of ≥ 75 years. With the development of laser technology in the 1960s, a technique was developed to inject intradermal vaccines immediately after irradiating the skin with laser light to elicit an adjuvant effect, referred to as “laser adjuvant.” We have been investigating the mechanism of laser adjuvant in influenza mouse models using noninvasive continuous-wave (CW) near-infrared (NIR) light mainly at a wavelength of 1064 nm, and have shown that the production of reactive-oxygen-species (ROS) in the skin and mast cells in the skin tissue plays an important role in the laser adjuvant effect. The new wavelength of 1270 nm NIR light is characterized by its ability to elicit the same vaccine adjuvant effect as other wavelengths at a lower energy, and may be suitable for clinical applications. In this study, we investigated the physiological activity of CW1270 nm NIR light in mast cells, its biological activity on mouse skin, and the durability of the vaccine adjuvant effect in influenza vaccine mouse models. We show that irradiation of mast cells with 1270 nm NIR light produced ROS and ATP, and irradiation of isolated mitochondria also produced ATP. In mouse skin, the relative expression levels of chemokine mRNAs, such as Ccl2 and Ccl20, were increased by irradiation with 1270 and 1064 nm NIR light at minimum safe irradiance. However, the relative expression of Nfkb1 was increased at 1064 nm, but not at 1270 nm. Serum anti-influenza IgG antibody titers increased early after immunization with 1064 nm, whereas with 1270 nm, there was not only an early response of antibody production but also persistence of antibody titers over the medium- to long-term. Thus, to our knowledge, we show for the first time that 1270 nm NIR light induces ROS and ATP production in mitochondria as photoreceptors, initiating a cascade of laser adjuvant effects for intradermal vaccines. Additionally, we demonstrate that there are wavelength-specific variations in the mechanisms and effects of laser adjuvants. In conclusion, CW1270 nm NIR light is expected to be clinically applicable as a novel laser adjuvant that is equivalent or superior to 1064 nm NIR light, because it can be operated at low energy and has a wavelengthspecific adjuvant effect with medium- to long-lasting antibody titer. Background: Mammalian cysteine‐rich secretory proteins (CRISPs) are predominantly expressed in the male reproductive tract. Knockout mice lacking two or more CRISPs show defects in sperm transport, sperm–egg interaction and Ca2+ homeostasis. CRISPs play redundant and specific roles via their binding partners. To understand this, a comprehensive analysis of CRISP interactome needs to be undertaken. Objectives: This study aimed to analyse CRISP4 binding partners on the plasma membrane of rat caudal spermatozoa. Materials and methods: Total proteins from rat caudal spermatozoa were subjected to immunoprecipitation using anti‐CRISP4 antibody followed by liquid chromatography–mass spectrophotometry analysis. Plasma membrane localised proteins were shortlisted, and a key target was validated by co‐immunoprecipitation and co‐localisation. Co‐transfection followed by co‐immunoprecipitation was carried out for studying the interaction of full‐length as well as deletion mutants of CRISPs with human plasma membrane calcium ATPase, isoform b (hPMCA4b). Calcium assays were performed using Fura‐2‐AM. The cholesterol binding ability of different CRISPs was evaluated in silico. Results: The membrane‐specific interactome of rat CRISP4 (rCRISP4) from caudal spermatozoa revealed PMCA4b as a novel binding partner, and their interaction was validated in rat spermatozoa. Human CRISP1 (hCRISP1) and hCRISP3 also interacted with PMCA4b via the N‐terminal domain. Interestingly, hCRISP1 and rCRISP4 delayed PMCA4b‐mediated calcium extrusion but hCRISP3 did not. In silico analysis demonstrated that hCRISP1 and rCRISP4 have higher binding affinity towards cholesterol than hCRISP3. The secretion profile of different CRISPs also showed that the ratio of secreted to cell‐associated proteins was highest for hCRISP3. Conclusion: Our study identifies PMCA4b as a target of multiple mammalian CRISPs and unravels a new role of CRISPs in regulating calcium homeostasis. Differences in the interaction of different CRISPs with cholesterol may regulate their enrichment in the lipid rafts and redistribution in the membrane post‐capacitation, thereby affecting their interaction with PMCA4b. Inbreeding avoidance via polyandry is a common response to combat inbreeding depression across multiple taxa, but has never been investigated in the Halonoproctidae. With a member of this family, the trapdoor spider Bothriocyrtum californicum (O. Pickard-Cambridge, 1874), Ramirez et al. (2013) found no evidence for inbreeding in several southern California populations, but did not examine polyandry. Hence, in this study, we determined the extent of multiple paternity in broods of B. californicum. To do so, we gathered broods and mothers from two sites in Los Angeles, CA, and then genotyped each mother and up to 50 spiderlings for variation at the phosphoglucomutase locus. Among nine sets of broods, six showed significant deviations from the Mendelian genotype ratios expected under the hypothesis of single paternity. This indicates that B. californicum females sometimes mate with multiple male partners. Background: This study aims to compare treatment outcomes in patients with Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) and HER2-Positive Breast Cancer, evaluating clinical responses, survival rates, recurrence rates, quality of life (QoL), and adverse events. Materials and Methods: A total of 100 female patients were included, with 50 diagnosed with TNBC and 50 with HER2-Positive Breast Cancer. Data on demographics, treatment regimens, clinical outcomes, survival rates, recurrence rates, QoL scores, and adverse events were collected and analyzed. Results: Mean age was 52.3 ± 9.7 years for TNBC and 54.1 ± 10.2 years for HER2-Positive patients. Surgery was performed in 90% of TNBC and 85% of HER2-Positive patients. Chemotherapy was administered to all patients. Radiation therapy was given to 60% of TNBC and 65% of HER2-Positive patients. Targeted therapy was administered to 10% of TNBC and 95% of HER2-Positive patients. Complete response rates were 20% for TNBC and 35% for HER2-Positive patients. Partial response rates were 40% for TNBC and 45% for HER2-Positive patients. Progressive disease occurred in 15% of TNBC and 10% of HER2-Positive patients. Survival rates at various time points are provided in Table 4. The 1-year overall survival (OS) rate was 80% (40 patients) for TNBC and 90% (45 patients) for HER2-Positive patients. The 2-year OS was 60% (30 patients) for TNBC and 75% (38 patients) for HER2- Positive patients. Local recurrence was 30% for TNBC and 20% for HER2- Positive patients. Distant metastasis occurred in 40% of TNBC and 25% of HER2-Positive patients. Grade 3-4 neutropenia was reported in 25% of TNBC and 20% of HER2-Positive patients. Cardiotoxicity was observed in 5% of TNBC and 10% of HER2-Positive patients. Conclusion: HER2-Positive patients exhibited better clinical outcomes and survival rates than TNBC patients but had a higher incidence of cardiotoxicity. Background: The effectiveness of negative‐pressure wound therapy (NPWT) in skin graft fixation has been demonstrated in several clinical studies. However, in vitro and in vivo studies on skin graft fixation with NPWT have been scarce. In this in vivo study, we aimed to determine whether NPWT fixation enhances skin graft survival and how it contributes to improving skin graft survival biologically. Materials and methods: We harvested skin from the bilateral abdominal wall of 88 mice after anesthetizing them. Full‐thickness skin grafts (FTSGs) were performed on contralateral harvest sites, and grafts were fixed using NPWT (continuous and intermittent modes), conventional compression methods, and wrapping with polyurethane foam as a control group. On days 5 and 10 of grafting, the survival rates of the FTSGs were evaluated. Immunohistopathological analysis and measurement of the expression levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (FGF‐2), and epidermal growth factor (EGF) were performed. Results: The survival rates of FTSG in the continuous NPWT group were significantly higher than those in the other groups. The number of capillaries in the dermis was significantly higher in the continuous NPWT group than in the other groups. In the wound bed, VEGF levels were significantly higher in both NPWT groups than in the other groups. Aims: This study aimed to clarify the real-world status of lipid management in outpatients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) following the 2022 revision of the Japan Atherosclerosis Society Guidelines for Prevention of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases. It also aimed to evaluate characteristics associated with the failure to achieve management targets. Materials and Methods: In this post-hoc analysis of a multicenter, cross-sectional study, we included Japanese outpatients with T2DM undergoing primary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases (ASCVD) who provided fasting blood samples. The frequency and determinants of achieving low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (non-HDL-C) targets were assessed. Results: Among 223 participants with a mean age of 67 and mean HbA1c of 7.1%, 61 had no history of peripheral arterial disease, microvascular complications, or smoking. Out of the 223 participants, 64.1% (95% CI: 57.6–70.1%) achieved the LDL-C target. In multivariate logistic regression analysis, being female (odds ratio [OR] 3.139, P = 0.0011), having diabetic nephropathy (OR 2.868, P = 0.0021), smoking (OR 2.292, P = 0.0281), and non-use of statins (OR 4.857, P < 0.0001) were independently associated with non-achievement. For non-HDL-C, 65.6% (95% CI: 58.1%–70.6%) of patients met the target. Having diabetic neuropathy (OR 2.428, P = 0.0054), smoking (OR 2.008, P = 0.0478), and non-use of statins (OR 2.277, P = 0.0112) were identified as factors associated with non-achievement. Conclusions: Low achievement rate of revised lipid management targets for ASCVD primary prevention in T2DM was unveiled. As the world becomes more aware of the prevalence and consequences of trauma for young people, the education sector is increasingly responsible for supporting students emotionally and academically. School-based mental health supports for students who have experienced trauma are crucial, as schools are often the only access point for intervention for many children and families. Given that over two-thirds of children in the U.S. will experience a traumatic event by age 16, it is imperative to better understand the mechanisms of implementing mental health support in schools. Despite the increasing need for trauma-informed practices in schools (TIPS), schools often struggle to provide them due to a myriad of barriers. More research is needed to understand how to implement and sustain TIPS. Researchers have begun exploring these questions, but there is still a shortage of research about how to best implement TIPS. We argue that the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) is useful for organizing and advancing the implementation of TIPS. By consolidating findings from existing scholarship on TIPS, we identify themes and future directions within the CFIR framework. Understanding the natural factors that influence diadromous fish communities in river ecosystems is crucial for effective biodiversity management. However, this remains an unexplored and challenging task. Here, the relationship between river morphology and diadromous fish communities within rivers was explored. We focused on river slope and estuary size, as these may constrain their upstream migration and affect the availability of important nursery grounds for some species. Using environmental DNA metabarcoding, we investigated the diadromous fish communities within 12 rivers of subtropical Yakushima Island, southern Japan, and compared the community differences among rivers with different river slopes and estuary sizes. Fewer diadromous fish species were detected in rivers with steeper slopes and smaller estuaries. Additionally, the community similarity was greater among rivers with analogous gradients and estuary sizes. These results indicate that river slopes exert a species-selective effect on diadromous fish communities by affecting their upstream migration and estuarine habitat availability, thereby playing a crucial role in shaping the composition of these communities within rivers. Conserving gentle-gradient rivers with large estuaries would be crucial for preserving the diversity of diadromous fish species, which play a crucial role in shaping biodiversity especially in rivers of subtropical and tropical oceanic islands. Background: Government-led, population-wide initiatives are crucial for advancing the management of hypertension − a leading cause of cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. An urban population health initiative was conducted against this backdrop, focussing on hypertension in the primary health system in São Paulo, Brazil. Within the frame of the initiative and under the supervision and leadership of the municipal health authorities, a situational analysis was conducted on the needs in hypertension management, marking the first phase of a Design Thinking process. This article describes the situational analysis process and presents the identified elements to be strengthened considering hypertension diagnosis, treatment and control. Methods: First, a mixed-methods approach was used, starting with a literature review of municipal hypertension data followed by meetings (N = 20) with the local public health administration to assess health system level components. To investigate activities on hypertension diagnosis, treatment and control, nine primary healthcare units were selected from two districts of São Paulo city– Itaquera and Penha– which received an online form addressed to managers, participated in conversation circles of staff and patients, and underwent shadowing of community health agents. Results: Data gave rise to two main outputs: (i) a patient care journey map; and (ii) a matrix summarizing the identified needs at patient, healthcare professional and health system level for diagnosis, treatment and control of hypertension. Patient awareness and knowledge of hypertension was found to be insufficient and its management needs to be improved. For health professionals, disease awareness, technical training, more time dedicated to patients, and simplified guidelines and clinical decision-making tools for hypertension management were identified as principal needs. The situational analysis found that the healthcare systems efficiency might be improved by establishing defined treatment and care delivery goals with a focus on outcomes and implemented through action plans. Conclusions: This situational analysis identified several needs related to hypertension control in São Paulo that are in line with global challenges to improve the control of CVD risk factors. Findings were also confirmed locally in an expansion phase of this situational analysis to additional primary care facilities. Spaying female and castrating male dogs, hereinafter referred to as neutering, is a US convention for the first year in the dog's life. Research on 35 breeds of dogs revealed that early neutering increases risks of joint disorders, such as hip dysplasia (HD), elbow dysplasia (ED), or cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) tear, or cancers, such as lymphosarcoma (LSA), mast cell tumor (MCT), hemangiosarcoma (has), or osteosarcoma (OSA), for some breeds. Joint disorder risks are heightened for some larger breeds and for mixed-breed dogs weighing more than 20 kg. Some breeds had elevated risks for cancers. Several other research teams have reported health complications associated with neutering. The study goal includes using the same methodology for data collection and analyses as in the study on 35 breeds for five additional dog breeds weighing at least 20 kg. The breeds were: German Short/Wirehaired Pointer, Mastiff, Newfoundland, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Siberian Husky. Major differences among breeds appeared in vulnerability to joint disorders and cancers with early neutering: male and female Pointer breeds had elevated joint disorders and increased cancers; male Mastiff breeds had increased CCL and LSA and females had non-significant elevated CCL risks; female Newfoundland breeds had heightened risks for joint disorders and males had non-significant elevated risks; female Ridgeback breeds had heightened MCT with very early neutering; and Siberian Huskies showed no significant effects on joint disorders or cancers, but female breeds showed a non-significant but elevated CCL. Updated guidelines cover 40 dog breeds. These results further emphasize the importance of personalized decisions regarding the neutering of dogs, considering the dog's breed, sex, and context. Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading cause of death among infectious agents globally. An estimated 10 million people are newly diagnosed and 1.5 million die of the disease annually. Uganda is among the 30 high TB-burdenedd countries, with Karamoja having a significant contribution of the disease incidence in the country. Control of the disease in Karamoja is complex because a majority of the at-risk population remain mobile; partly because of the nomadic lifestyle. This study, therefore, aimed at describing the factors associated with drug-susceptible TB treatment success rate (TSR) in the Karamoja region. Methods: This was a retrospective study on case notes of all individuals diagnosed with and treated for drug-susceptible TB at St. Kizito Hospital Matany, Napak district, Karamoja from 1st Jan 2020 to 31st December 2021. Data were abstracted using a customised data abstraction tool. Data analyses were done using Stata statistical software, version 15.0. Chi-square test was conducted to compare treatment success rates between years 2020 and 2021, while Modified Poisson regression analysis was performed at multivariable level to determine the factors associated with treatment success. Results: We studied records of 1234 participants whose median age was 31 (IQR: 13–49) years. Children below 15 years of age accounted for 26.2% (n = 323). The overall treatment success rate for the study period was 79.3%(95%CI; 77.0%-81.5%), with a statistically significant variation in 2020 and 2021, 75.4% (422/560) vs 82.4% (557/674) respectively, (P = 0.002). The commonest reported treatment outcome was treatment completion at 52%(n = 647) and death was at 10.4% (n = 129). Older age, undernutrition (Red MUAC), and HIV-positive status were significantly associated with lower treatment success: aPR = 0.87(95%CI; 0.80–0.94), aPR = 0.91 (95%CI; 0.85–0.98) and aPR = 0.88 (95%CI; 0.78–0.98); respectively. Patients who were enrolled in 2021 had a high prevalence of treatment success compared to those enrolled in 2020, aPR = 1.09 (95%CI; 1.03–1.16). Conclusion: TB TSR in Matany Hospital was suboptimal. Older age, poor nutrition, and being HIV-positive were negative predictors of treatment success. We propose integrating nutrition and HIV care into TB programming to improve treatment success. Background and objective: Barrett's esophagus (BE) is a precancerous condition that has the potential to develop into esophageal cancer (EC). Currently, there is a wide range of management options available for individuals at different pathological stages in Barrett's esophagus (BE). However, there is currently a lack of knowledge regarding their comparative efficacy. To address this gap, we conducted a network meta-analysis of published randomized controlled trials to examine the comparative effectiveness of all regimens. Methods: Data extracted from eligible randomized controlled trials were utilized in a Bayesian network meta-analysis to examine the relative effectiveness of BE's treatment regimens and determine their ranking in terms of efficacy. The ranking probability for each regimen was assessed using the surfaces under cumulative ranking values. The outcomes under investigation were complete ablation of BE, neoplastic progression of BE, and complete eradication of dysplasia. Results: We identified twenty-three RCT studies with a total of 1675 participants, and ten different interventions. Regarding complete ablation of non-dysplastic BE, the comparative effectiveness ranking indicated that argon plasma coagulation (APC) was the most effective regimen, with the highest SUCRA value, while surveillance and PPI/H2RA were found to be the least efficacious regimens. For complete ablation of BE with low-grade dysplasia, high-grade dysplasia, or esophageal cancer, photodynamic therapy (PDT) had the highest SUCRA value of 94.1%, indicating it as the best regimen. Additionally, for complete eradication of dysplasia, SUCRA plots showed a trend in ranking PDT as the highest with a SUCRA value of 91.2%. Finally, for neoplastic progression, radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and surgery were found to perform significantly better than surveillance. The risk of bias assessment revealed that 6 studies had an overall high risk of bias. However, meta-regression with risk of bias as a covariate did not indicate any influence on the model. In terms of the Confidence in Network Meta-Analysis evaluation, a high level of confidence was found for all treatment comparisons. Conclusion: Endoscopic surveillance alone or PPI/H2RA alone may not be sufficient for managing BE, even in cases of non-dysplastic BE. However, APC has shown excellent efficacy in treating non-dysplastic BE. For cases of BE with low-grade dysplasia, high-grade dysplasia, or esophageal cancer, PDT may be the optimal intervention as it can induce regression of BE metaplasia and prevent future progression of BE to dysplasia and EC. Background: Fibrates have renal toxicity limiting their use in subjects with chronic kidney disease (CKD). However, pemafibrate has fewer toxic effects on renal function. In the present analysis, we evaluated the effects of pemafibrate on the renal function of diabetic subjects with or without CKD in a real-world clinical setting. Methods: We performed a sub-analysis of data collected during a multi-center, prospective, observational study of the effects of pemafibrate on lipid metabolism in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated by hypertriglyceridemia (the PARM-T2D study). The participants were allocated to add pemafibrate to their existing regimen (ADD-ON), switch from their existing fibrate to pemafibrate (SWITCH), or continue conventional therapy (CTRL). The changes in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) over 52 weeks were compared among these groups as well as among subgroups created according to CKD status. Results: Data for 520 participants (ADD-ON, n=166; SWITCH, n=96; CTRL, n=258) were analyzed. Of them, 56.7% had CKD. The eGFR increased only in the SWITCH group, and this trend was also present in the CKD subgroup (P<0.001). On the other hand, eGFR was not affected by switching in participants with severe renal dysfunction (G3b or G4) and/or macroalbuminuria. Multivariate analysis showed that being older and a switch from fenofibrate were associated with elevation in eGFR (both P<0.05). Neuromarketing uses brain‐computer interface technology to understand customer preferences in response to marketing stimuli. Every year, marketing professionals spend over $750 Billion (US dollars) on traditional marketing, which is usually behavioral and subjective, focusing on self‐reports acquired via questionnaires, focus groups, and depth interviews. Neuromarketing, on the other hand, promises to overcome such limitations. This work proposes a machine learning framework that incorporates multiple components (endorsement, offer, and slogan) in real advertisement to predict consumer preference from electroencephalography (EEG) signals. In addition, we also use eye‐tracking data to visualize consumer viewing patterns according to both advertisement type and preference. EEG signals are collected from 22 healthy volunteers while viewing the real ads as stimuli. After preprocessing the signals, three‐domain features are extracted (time, frequency, and time‐frequency). Then, using wrapper‐based approaches we choose best features which are later classified into strong and weak preferences using the support vector machine. The experimental results demonstrate the best performance using all the frontal channels with an accuracy of 96.97%, sensitivity of 96.30%, and specificity of 97.44%. Additionally, eye tracking data reveals that subjects substantially prefer an ad, when they first glance at the endorsement. In addition, people tend to blink their eyes less frequently while viewing ads with endorsements and strongly prefer these commercials too. Additionally, our work lays the door for deploying such a neuromarketing framework in a real‐world context by employing consumer‐grade EEG equipment. Human-wildlife conflict (HWC) is a pressing issue worldwide but varies by species over time and place. One of the most prevalent forms of HWC in the mid-hills of Nepal is human-common-leopard conflict (HLC). Leopard attacks, especially in forested areas, can severely impact villagers and their livestock. Information on HLC in the Gorkha district was scarce, thus making it an ideal location to identify high-risk zones and landscape variables associated with such events. Registered cases were collected and reviewed from the Division Forest Office (DFO) during 2019-2021. Claims from DFO records were confirmed with herders and villagers via eight focus group discussions. To enhance modeling success, researchers identified a total of 163 leopard attack locations on livestock, ensuring a minimum distance of at least 100 meters between locations. Using maximum entropy (MaxEnt) and considering 13 environmental variables, we mapped common leopard attack risk zones. True Skill Statistics (TSS) and area under receiver-operator curve (AUC) were used to evaluate and validate the Output. Furthermore, 10 replications, 1,000 maximum iterations, and 1000 background points were employed during modeling. The average AUC value for the model, which was 0.726 ± 0.021, revealed good accuracy. The model performed well, as indicated by a TSS value of 0.61 ± 0.03. Of the total research area (27.92 km2), about 74% was designated as a low-risk area, 19% as a medium-risk area, and 7% as a high-risk area. Of the 13 environmental variables, distance to water (25.2%) was the most significant predictor of risk, followed by distance to road (16.2%) and elevation (10.7%). According to response curves, the risk of common leopard is highest in the areas between 1.5 to 2 km distances from the water sources, followed by the closest distance from a road and an elevation of 700 to 800 m. Results suggest that managers and local governments should employ intervention strategies immediately to safeguard rural livelihoods in high-risk areas. Improvements include better design of livestock corrals, insurance, and total compensation of livestock losses. Settlements near roads and water sources should improve the design and construction of pens and cages to prevent livestock loss. More studies on the characteristics of victims are suggested to enhance understanding of common leopard attacks, in addition to landscape variables. Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) can be a part of the VACTERL association, which represents the non-random combination of the following congenital anomalies: vertebral anomalies, anal anomalies, cardiac anomalies, tracheal-esophageal anomalies, kidney anomalies, and limb anomalies. VACTERL association is generally considered to be a non-genetic condition. Exceptions include a patient with a heterozygous nonsense SALL4 variant and anal stenosis, tetralogy of Fallot, sacro-vertebral fusion, and radial and thumb anomalies. SALL4 encodes a transcription factor that plays a critical role in kidney morphogenesis. Here, we report a patient with VACTERL association and a heterozygous 128-kb deletion spanning SALL4 who presented with renal hypoplasia, radial and atrio-septal defects, and patent ductus arteriosus. The present report of SALL4 deletion, in addition to a previously reported patient with VACTERL association phenotype and SALL4 nonsense mutation, further supports the notion that SALL4 haploinsufficiency can lead to VACTERL association. Enzymes are considered safe and effective therapeutic tools for various diseases. With the increasing integration of biomedicine and nanotechnology, artificial nanozymes offer advanced controllability and functionality in medical design. However, several notable gaps, such as catalytic diversity, specificity and biosafety, still exist between nanozymes and their native counterparts. Enzymes are considered safe and effective therapeutic tools for various diseases. With the increasing integration of biomedicine and nanotechnology, artificial nanozymes offer advanced controllability and functionality in medical design. However, several notable gaps, such as catalytic diversity, specificity and biosafety, still exist between nanozymes and their native counterparts. Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic led countries' governments to rapidly establish lockdowns and social distancing, which altered family routines and the quality of family relationships worldwide. Objectives: This exploratory cross-sectional study aimed to identify the impacts of the social distancing and lockdown in parenting practices of caregivers from Brazil, Mexico, and the USA, and to analyze the continuity of parenting intervention support for children and their families at the beginning of the pandemic in these countries. Methods: The sample consisted of 704 caregivers of children (286 from Brazil, 225 from Mexico, and 193 from the USA) who answered an online survey about parenting practices before/after quarantine, caregiver/child routines, feelings related to quarantine, changes in everyday life since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, contact with health professionals, and sources of parenting information. Results: Data indicate that caregivers from the three countries experienced similar parenting practices during this time, and did not report significant changes before and after the lockdown. They sought information about parenting predominantly via social media. Those receiving previous mental health care perceived the transition from in-person to telehealth services during the pandemic as feasible and acceptable. Conclusion: This study will be helpful for clinicians and parents to contextualize their practices amid long-standing effects that the COVID-19 pandemic can have on children and their families during and post-pandemic from multiple cultural backgrounds. Nepal harbors many ethnomedicinal plants distributed throughout the country's diverse geography. It is crucial to document plants' ethnobotanical knowledge for further research and conservation. This study aimed to conduct a quantitative ethnobotanical analysis of the medicinal plants used in the Varagung Muktichhetra Rural Municipality of Mustang District, Nepal. Data were collected through a household survey (N = 101), using snowball sampling with 40% sampling intensity, 12 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and two Focus Group Discussions (FGDs). The data was analyzed using different quantitative tools: Informant consensus factor (Fic), Fidelity Level (FL), and Use Values (UV). A total of 54 medicinal plants belonging to 32 families were documented, which were used to treat 40 different ailments. The family Asteraceae represented the maximum number of plants being used. Herbs were most frequently used (59%), and root (n =10) was the most used plant part. Neopicrorhiza scrophulariiflora was the most frequently used and preferred species (FL = 65% and UV = 0.62). Fever (Fic = 0.88) and gastrointestinal disorder (Fic = 0.86) were the major ailment categories treated. Oral (76%) was the main route of administration of medicines in the body, and the most used form of medicine preparation was paste (46%). Unsustainable harvesting, illegal collection, and forest fire were the major threats to medicinal plants and were highly significant after applying the non-parametric Friedman test. Enactment of a policy that focuses on conservation, sustainable harvesting, and domestication of highly valued medicinal plants is recommended to policymakers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes an advanced Load Frequency Contol (LFC) strategy, using a hybrid adaptive particle swarm-spiral dynamic optimization algorithm (HAPSSDOA). The optimization algorithms iteratively adjust the PID gains based on the evaluation of the cost function and eventually find the optimal values that minimize the cost function and result in a satisfactory frequency value of 50Hz. The P-I-D parameters for the APSO, SDA, and HAPSSDOA algorithms were 3.5112, 2.9691 and 1.1972; 2.3712, 2.8479 and 0.9827; 2.3519, 1.7989 and 0.8864 respectively. The system’s performance showed the rise time, settling time, percentage overshoot and ITAE of 0.28s, 2.33s, 42.10%, and 0.1076 for APSO; 0.324s, 3.67s, 38.4%, and 0.3590 for SDA; 0.36S, 2.2S, 33.5%, and 0.2430 for HAPSSDOA respectively. The LFC strategy using the hybrid HAPSSDOA achieved better performance, improved robustness, and the best response. The optimized PID controllers’ values brought more stability to the designed microgrid network, by ensuring that the frequency remained at 50Hz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Frequently consuming processed and ready-to-eat (RTE) foods is regarded as unhealthy, but evidence on the relationships with circulating metabolic parameters is lacking. Japanese residents of a metropolitan area, 20 to 50 years of age, were studied in terms of anthropometric and biochemical parameters, including circulating trans fat and serum phospholipid fatty acid levels. Processed foods, except drinks and dairy items, were categorized according to requirements for additional ingredients and cooking before eating. Processed and RTE foods were divided according to fat and/or oil content into non-fatty or fatty foods. The participants were grouped into tertiles based on the energy percent (En%) derived from fatty-RTE foods. Fatty-RTE En% showed negative associations with fish, soybean and soybean products, dairy, eggs, vegetables, seaweed/mushrooms/konjac, fruit and non-oily seasonings reflecting lower dietary fiber, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), and mineral and vitamin intakes, while the associations with fat/oil, confectionaries, and sweet beverages were positive. Fatty-RTE En% consumption was positively associated with alkaline phosphatase, leucine aminopeptidase, direct bilirubin, elaidic acid, and C18:2 but inversely associated with HDL cholesterol, C15:0, C17:0, EPA, and DHA. A higher fatty-RTE food intake was suggested to contribute to unbalanced nutrient intakes, as reflected in lipid metabolic parameters. Japanese giant salamander (Andrias japonicus) is one of the largest amphibian species in the world and an iconic species in Japan. However, as its distribution has recently declined across the country, rapid and extensive monitoring of the distribution is urgently needed for its efficient conservation. Here, we used environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis to assess the Japanese giant salamander's distribution in western Japan and, for that purpose, we collected 410 water samples from 12 rivers. We then developed a new eDNA assay for multi-copy nuclear DNA (nuDNA) of the giant salamander and compared the eDNA detectability of the nuDNA marker with that of a previous mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) marker. Throughout the survey, we detected target eDNA from 162 water samples using either of the markers, which generally corresponded to the known natural distribution of the species. Additionally, the use of the nuDNA marker allowed for higher detection rate of target eDNA than the mtDNA marker. Moreover, the detection rate of target eDNA decreased substantially in water samples with higher conductivity and also partly in those with higher pH, suggesting their negative impacts on the salamander's ecology. Our results demonstrated that eDNA analysis with multi-copy nuDNA marker is highly useful for efficient and sensitive surveillance of Japanese giant salamander's distribution. The fruits of Citrus limon are often purchased for their vitamin C-rich juice, while the fruit peel and the tree leaves are discarded as wastes. This study obtained the chemical profiles of the essential oils (EOs) of C. limon wastes (the peel and leaves), evaluated their medicinal value as antioxidants, their potential for sustainable use in agriculture as an insecticide for post-harvest preservation of grains, and their potential as a bioresource in livestock feed formulations. The EOs were isolated from C. limon leaves and peel using a hydro-distillation method on a Clevenger apparatus. The oil constituents were identified using the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) hyphenated technique. The oils were evaluated for their in vitro antioxidant activity using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric-reducing antioxidant power methods. An insecticidal study was conducted using contact toxicity, fumigation, and repellence bioassay methods against Sitophilus zeamais (maize weevils). Finally, the predicted income from using lemon peel as an alternative or substitute ingredient for maize in livestock feed formulations was obtained through a conventional simulation method. Chemically, limonene was found to be present in all the EOs analyzed (12–52%), while α-pinene was only found in the fresh leaf and peel oils (13.3% and 10.6%). Caryophyllene oxide was identified as the major component of the dried leaf oil (17.7%). At 20 µg m, the dry peel oil exhibited the highest inhibitory activity (52.41 ± 0.26%) against the DPPH radical, which was comparable to L-ascorbic acid (a standard antioxidant) at 54.25 ± 3.55%. The insecticidal study revealed that the dry peel oil is a better insect repellent (73.33 ± 6.95% at 10 µL) and fumigant (LC50 = 0.17 µL g−1 after 48 h) natural agent compared to the peel oil. Conversely, the dry peel oil showed a better contact activity (LC50 = 1.69 µL g−1) against the maize weevils compared to the dry leaf oil. The simulation study showed the cost of using dry lemon peel as an alternative to maize in livestock feed formulation to be ZAR 2.8 billion, compared against the higher cost of feed formulation with maize, which currently stands at ZAR 24.9 billion. This study has shown that C. limon wastes (the peel and leaves) contain EOs with unique chemical profiles, valuable medicinal properties as free radical scavengers, and considerable insecticidal properties for agricultural use in post-harvest grain preservation, presenting a cost-effective and promising bioresource for livestock feed production. Maintaining image fidelity during transmission is challenging for live optical quantum image transmission. This paper introduces a novel "Quantum-Inspired Adaptive Loss Detection and Real-time Image Restoration" approach. The method incorporates adaptive loss detection and real-time restoration techniques, drawing inspiration from quantum principles to model the optical quantum environment. The core innovation is a near-to-far continuous approach adapted to the quantum environment's dynamics, enhancing image clarity and quality. A Network-in-Network architecture with MLPConv layers is proposed for the system model to estimate the transmission map for image de-hazing using the Reinforcement Learning system (ID-RL). A depth-aware dehazing reinforcement learning framework tackles image regions separately. Experiments demonstrate superior over prior SSIM and PSNR arts, even with minimal training data. Efficiency for real-time usage is shown, with potential for autonomous surveillance applications in smart cities. In East Asia, Chinese ethnic Korean literature has drawn scholarly attention from Chinese, South Korean, and Japanese scholars. They mostly situate the literature within a "double identity" (ijung chŏngch'esŏng 이중정체성) that is both Korean and Chinese and examine how the literature sheds light on the relations and tensions between the two sides of the identity. This article explores the critical potential of the literature beyond the limits of a double identity and within a borderland milieu. The Yanbian Ethnic Korean Autonomous Prefecture is located along the northeast border of China and is adjacent to the Korean Peninsula, Russia, and Japan. Through a close reading of the early postwar poetry produced in the region by the representative Chinese ethnic Korean poet Ri Uk, the article examines how Chinese ethnic Korean literature may serve as a nexus of connection and negotiation among multiple cultures. Those who are familiar with the region know that these cultures have been deeply alienated from each other during multiple rounds of imperialization by regional and global powers. A close examination of the multilateral connection of a borderland ethnic literature with regional power holders offers insights into the ways cultures connect despite historical conflicts and ideological opposition.
