Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) have become a popular solution for expanding internet service and communication in both urban and rural areas. However, the performance of WMNs depends on generating optimized time-division multiple access (TDMA) schedules, which distribute time into a list of slots called superframes. This study proposes novel meta-heuristic algorithms to generate TDMA link schedules in WMNs using two different interference/constraint models: multi-transmit-receive (MTR) and full-duplex (FD). The objectives of this study are to optimize the TDMA frame for packet transmission, satisfy the constraints, and minimize the end-to-end delay. The significant contributions of this study are: (1) proposing effective and efficient heuristic solutions to solve the NP-complete problem of generating optimal TDMA link schedules in WMNs; (2) investigating the new FD interference model to improve the network capacity above the physical layer. To achieve these objectives and contributions, the study uses two popular meta-heuristics, the artificial bee colony (ABC) and/or genetic algorithm (GA), to solve the known NP-complete problems of joint scheduling, power control, and rate control. The results of this study show that the proposed algorithms can generate optimized TDMA link schedules for both MTR and FD models. The joint routing and scheduling approach further minimizes end-to-end delay while maintaining the schedule's minimum length and/or maximum capacity. The proposed solution outperforms the existing solutions in terms of the number of active links, end-to-end delay, and network capacity. The last few years have witnessed tremendous challenges in the management of operational risks faced by banks and the emergence of newer risks. The working models for bank staff are now different; additionally, there has been a massive increase in the digitization level. All these aspects make operational risk management in banks an attractive field of study. There is a need to perform systematic bibliometric analysis in this research area, providing the various trends and highlighting areas for further research analysis. This research paper has examined the various aspects of operational risk management in Banks by performing a thorough bibliometric analysis of 676 articles extracted from two data databases, i.e., Scopus and Web of Science, from 2010 until March 2023. These were analyzed using the tools Biblioshiny and VOSviewer. Various bibliometric techniques like analysis of trends, citations, contributing authors, keywords, and bibliographic coupling have been performed. This research paper has significant theoretical and practical implications which can assist future researchers. Operational risks are ever-dynamic, and five themes, i.e., climate risk, information security risks, geopolitical risks, third-party risks and compliance risks, have been identified in this research paper as key focus areas for conducting research in the future. The findings of this study and suggestions for future research will be useful to academicians, policymakers, and operational risk management professionals for identifying potential areas of collaboration in the future to strengthen the operational risk management framework. This work reports on the prospect of using photonic crystal resonances to improve the performance of Leonardo DRS's Hg1−xCdxTe high-density vertically integrated photodiodes. Close examination of Leonardo DRS's unique photodiode architecture reveals that it is a photonic crystal by its very construction. As a result, by carefully tailoring the lattice parameters, it is possible to take advantage of guided-mode resonances to improve the performance in very thin film arrays. Of particular emphasis in this work is using such resonances to bolster the performance in thin-film arrays with a material cutoff in the longwave infrared. We begin the paper by describing guided-mode resonances and the benefits they afford. We continue by modeling both simplified and realistic high-density vertically integrated photodiodes using the finite-difference time-domain method. We present one structure with a longwave infrared material cutoff that, due to the presence of a guided-mode resonance, leads to near-perfect transmission into the Hg1−xCdxTe, even in the absence of an anti-reflective coating. Additionally, this same structure absorbs nearly 88% of the incident light even though the Hg1−xCdxTe material is only 1.0 µm thick. Following this theoretical study, we fabricated test structures and performed Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy measurements. The measurements clearly revealed the presence of guided-mode resonances. Moreover, the measurements agree well with our modeling. Further modeling of the same structures suggests nearly 89% of the incident longwave infrared light can theoretically be absorbed near the presence of the guided-mode resonance. Being able to achieve similar quantum efficiencies in thinner longwave infrared materials would be a significant achievement, as the dark current should roughly decrease proportional to the volume of the absorber. Moreover, reducing our longwave infrared material thickness from nearly 6.0 µm to 1.0 µm has the added benefits of increasing material throughput and decreasing chamber downtime for material grown using molecular beam epitaxy. This work reports on recent advancements in the development of the Hg1−xCdxTe linear-mode, electron-initiated avalanche photodiode at Leonardo DRS. These detectors exhibit single-photon sensitivity from the visible to mid-wave infrared and have enabled several new NASA space LiDAR applications. In this paper, we first report on the issue of mitigating dark counts due to "ROIC glow." By introducing a revised light-barrier in our detector design, we demonstrate a near factor of 4 reduction in glow-induced dark counts. We further present direct measurements of excess noise factor and describe post-analysis models that accurately extract this quantity from focal plane array performance data. All methods consistently reveal excess noise factors well below the McIntyre limit. Gain measurements are conducted on a smaller-format avalanche photodiode array and reveal gains of ~6100 (measured at a reverse bias of 14.9 V, operating temperature of 84 K and using a 1.55 µm illumination source), which is a new record for the mid-wave infrared technology at Leonardo DRS. Additional performance metrics such as false-event rate, photon-detection efficiency and timing jitter are presented for larger-format arrays (i.e. arrays with a greater number of pixels). We conclude with an examination of a non-fundamental, injection contact-induced breakdown phenomenon. Experimental data and modeling reveal that this breakdown is dependent on the gain and the photon signal level, and unrelated to classical avalanche breakdown. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We present a detailed methodology for drift-diffusion (DD) modeling of gain and dark currents in mid-wave infrared (MWIR) and short-wave infrared (SWIR) ${\mathrm {Hg}}_{{1}-{x}}$ CdxTe p-around-n avalanche photodiodes (APDs) based on a comprehensive analysis of experimentally obtained data from three different sets of devices. These devices are fabricated on homogeneous and compositionally-graded films with cadmium composition ranging from ${x}\,\,=0.37$ to 0.45, each with differing geometrical dimensions, and tested at operating temperatures ranging from 140 to 240 K. The temperature, composition, and electric-field dependent impact ionization (ImI) coefficients are calibrated first according to the given experimental gain data. The gain-normalized dark current (GNDC) curve, along with the presumption of electron-only multiplication, is then used to thoroughly understand and model the behavior of diffusion and generation currents. At high biases, the GNDC curve reveals contributions from tunneling, which are classified as either trap-assisted or band-to-band based on their temperature dependence. The tunneling mechanisms are modeled accordingly: trap-assisted tunneling (TAT) is scaled inversely with Shockley–Read–Hall (SRH) lifetime, while band-to-band tunneling (BTBT) is scaled with bandgap, effective mass, and an additional empirical temperature term. Background: Hirschsprung's disease (HD) is a genetic disorder with a complex pattern of inheritance. Some single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are identified to be associated with the risk of Hirschsprung's Disease (HSCR).Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study is to know the association between the rearranged during transfection (RET) proto-oncogene polymorphism and HD and to characterize the SNPs of RET proto-oncogene affecting HD.Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in the Department of Pathology in association with the Department of Pediatric Surgery. Blood samples were collected from the patients diagnosed with confirmed HD and from age- and sex-matched controls. This case-control study consisted of 53 HSCR cases and 50 controls. Genotypes of rs1800860 and rs1800861 were analysed in by polymerase chain reaction amplification and sanger sequencing. Associations with the risk of HSCR were estimated by odds ratio (OR) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) using.Results: We observed that in the case of rs1800860A > G genotype AG was not associated with the increasing risk of disease (OR with 95% CI = 0.568 [0.238-1.356]) while genotype GG was associated with increasing the risk of the disease (OR with 95% CI = 2.278 [0.967-5.366]). In the case of rs1800861G > T genotype GT was associated with lowering the risk of the disease (OR with 95% CI = 0.230 [0.0981-0.539]) while genotype TT was associated with increasing the risk of the disease (OR with 95% CI = 9.647 [3.830-24.302]). The difference in the genotypic distribution of GT and TT at rs1800861G > T between Short segment disease (SSD) cases and Long Segment Disease (LSD) and total colonic aganglionosis was made by Fisher's exact test and it was statistically significant (P = 0.0476 and 0.0054).Conclusion: The results of this study support the hypothesis that variations in RET pathway might play an important role in the development of HSCR. Context: Autoimmune blistering diseases (AIBDs) are characterized by autoantibodies directed against antigens of skin. Direct immunofluorescence (DIF) study helps in confirming the diagnosis where histopathology alone is noncontributory. Aims: This study aimed to evaluate the clinicopathological and DIF features of intraepidermal AIBD and to assess their relative diagnostic significance. Materials and Methods: It was an institution-based observational study. A total of 34 patients were studied over a period of 1½ years in the Department of Pathology in collaboration with the Department of Dermatology of a tertiary care hospital. The clinical, pathological, and DIF features were evaluated and documented. Statistical Analysis: Data were analyzed by statistical tests using GraphPad InStat. Results: Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) was the predominant type with 18 (53%) cases followed by 15 (44%) cases of pemphigus foliaceus (PF) and a single case of pemphigus erythematosus (PE). The age of the patients ranged from 17 to 85 years. Overall, there was a female preponderance in the study group. The most common presenting feature was pruritus (58.82%). Tzanck smear showed the presence of acantholytic cells in thirty (88.24%) patients. Characteristic histopathological features were present in all the cases of PV and PF except one case of PF which was found to be a case of PE. DIF study showed intraepidermal deposition of intercellular immunoglobulin G (IgG) and C3 both in PV and PF. The case of PE showed epidermal "antinuclear antibody" staining with IgG. Conclusion: Immunofluorescence study may be used as an additional tool for confirmation of diagnosis where histopathology alone is inconclusive. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Fanconi anaemia (FA) is a rare inherited bone marrow failure and autosomal recessive blood disorder. FA patients have a higher risk of cancer, including acute myeloid leukaemia and squamous cell carcinoma. Maximum, but not all, affected individuals have one or more somatic abnormalities, including skin, skeletal, genitourinary, gastrointestinal, cardiac and neurological anomalies, etc. Positive stress cytogenetics has immense implications for the treatment and management of FA. The aim of our study was to find out the incidence of FA in the population of phenotypically normal aplastic anaemia (AA) patients in West Bengal. Methods: Ethical clearances were obtained from the corresponding institutional committees. A total of 117 AA cases was selected. Stress cytogenetics was performed from peripheral venous blood (PVB) samples of 63 AA patients (age ≤ 50 years) and 63 age- and sex-matched healthy individual (control) using Mitomycin C (MMC). Results: Out of 63 AA patients, 6 (9.25%) cases showed positive stress cytogenetics suggestive of FA, which is statistically significant (p-value - 0.000532), analysed by chi-square test. Discussion: A considerable percentage of patients showing sensitivity towards MMC, even if they are phenotypically normal and did not have any distinguishable features which are generally found in FA. Conclusion: This observation may indicate that stress cytogenetics analysis of phenotypically normal AA patients (≤50 years) is essential for the improvement of the treatment procedure. An overview of recent improvements in our understanding of, and the maturity of, linear-mode photon counting with the HgCdTe electron-initiated avalanche photodiode is presented. In 2010 DRS fabricated an experimental 2 × 8 array with (64 μm) pixels which enabled, for the first time, linear-mode photon counting by use of the MWIR cutoff HgCdTe electron-initiated avalanche photodiode. The device had a high single-photon signal-to-noise ratio of 13.7, an excess noise factor of 1.3-1.4, a 7 ns minimum time between events, and a broad spectral response extending from 0.4 μm to 4.2 μm. DRS recently fabricated a new set of devices with improved yield and performance compared with the first device: the false event rate was reduced by a factor of almost 10 to 150 kHz, the photon detection efficiency was increased from 50% to >60%, and the APD gain was increased by a factor of 4 to over 1900. Background: Beta-thalassemia trait (BTT) is a common genetic disorder of hemoglobin and imposes a significant burden on global healthcare. Screening of this disorder is immensely important epidemiologically as it can reduce the future incidence of thalassemia major in newborns. The present study was carried out to evaluate the role of six discrimination indices to differentiate cases of BTT from others. Materials and Methods: A single-center, cross-sectional study was conducted on consecutive 10,407 participants. In addition to common diagnostic statistics association, concordance and receiver-operating characteristic curves were assessed to judge the role of discrimination indices. Results: Shine and Lal index, Mentzer index, and Srivastava index had revealed better discriminative function compared to England and Fraser index, red cell distribution width index, and Green and King index. Conclusion: Discrimination indices are rapid, reliable, and easy tools to suspect a case of BTT and send the subject for further high-performance liquid chromatography evaluation. But the cut-off value for these indices needs to be revised to achieve the best combination of sensitivity and specificity in this population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hemoglobinopathies are common genetic disorders of haemoglobin. Identification of these disorders is immensely important epidemiologically and they can be prevented by population screening. The present study was carried out to evaluate the spectrum of hemoglobinopathies in the state of West Bengal by the cation-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography (CE-HPLC). A retrospective, single-center, cross-sectional study was conducted on consecutive 10,407 participants. Out of 10,407 subjects, 8,898 (85.5 %) were diagnosed as normal, 579 (5.6 %) were as β-thalassemia trait (BTT) and 522 (5.0 %) were detected as HbE carrier on HPLC study. Apart from BTT and HbE carrier ten additional variants were encountered. The present study showed that CE-HPLC is a convenient, high-throughput, labour-saving and objective screening tool for early detection and management of hemoglobinopathies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A linear mode photon counting focal plane array using HgCdTe mid-wave infrared (MWIR) cutoff electron initiated avalanche photodiodes (e-APDs) has been designed, fabricated, and characterized. The broad spectral range (0.4 to 4.3 μm) is unique among photon counters, making this a "first of its kind" system spanning the visible to the MWIR. The low excess noise [F(M ≈ 1] of the e-APDs allows for robust photon detection while operating at a stable linear avalanche gain in the range of 500-1000. The readout integrated circuit (ROIC) design included a very high gain-bandwidth product resistive transimpedance amplifier (3 x 1013 Ω-Hz) and a 4 ns output digital pulse width comparator. The ROIC had 16 high-bandwidth analogs and 16 low-voltage differential signaling digital outputs. The 2 x 8 array was integrated into an LN2 Dewar with a custom leadless chip carrier and daughter board design that preserved high-bandwidth analog and digital signal integrity. The 2 x 8 e-APD arrays were fabricated on 4.3 µm cutoff HgCdTe and operated at 84 K. The measured dark currents were approximately 1 pA at 13 V bias where the measured avalanche photodiode gain was 500. This translates to a predicted dark current induced dark count rate of less than 20 KHz. Single photon detection was achieved with a photon pulse signal-to-noise ratio of 13.7 above the amplifier noise floor. A photon detection efficiency of 50% was measured at a photon background limited false event rate of about 1 MHz. The measured jitter was in the range of 550-800 ps. An HgCdTe electron avalanche photodiode (e-APD) detector has been developed for lidar receivers, one application of which is integrated path differential absorption lidar measurements of such atmospheric trace gases as CO and CH. The HgCdTe APD has a wide, visible to mid-wave-infrared, spectral response, high dynamic range, substantially improved sensitivity, and an expected improvement in operational lifetime. A demonstration sensor-chip assembly consisting of a 4.3 μm cutoff HgCdTe 4 × 4 APD detector array with 80 μm pitch pixels and a custom complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor readout integrated circuit was developed. For one typical array the APD gain was 654 at 12 V with corresponding gain normalized dark currents ranging from 1.2 fA to 3.2 fA. The 4 × 4 detector system was characterized at 77 K with a 1.55 μm wavelength, 1 μs wide, laser pulse. The measured unit gain detector photon conversion efficiency was 91.1%. At 11 V bias the mean measured APD gain at 77 K was 307.8 with σ/mean uniformity of 1.23%. The average, noise-bandwidth normalized, system noise-equivalent power (NEP) was 1.04 fW/Hz with a σ/mean of 3.8%. The measured, electronics-limited, bandwidth of 6.8 MHz was more than adequate for 1 μs pulse detection. The system had an NEP (3 MHz) of 0.4 fW/Hz at 12 V APD bias and a linear dynamic range close to 1000. A gain-independent quantum-limited SNR of 80% of full theoretical was indicative of a gain-independent excess noise factor very close to 1.0 and the expected APD mode quantum efficiency. Objective: The precise role of iron in immune regulation especially in children vulnerable to iron deficiency is not fully known. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate the effects of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and its treatment with oral iron supplementation on cell-mediated immunity (CMI) and humoral immunity (HMI) in children. Materials and Methods: A total of 40 children (<15 years) with IDA and 40 age-matched healthy children after satisfying the inclusion criteria were enrolled for this case-control study. Flow cytometric evaluation of absolute and relative numbers of cluster of differentiation 4 (CD4) and CD8 (cluster of differentiation 8) lymphocyte subgroups was carried out to assess the CMI and serum Immunoglobulin G (IgG), Immunoglobulin A (IgA), Immunoglobulin M (IgM) were measured to assess the HMI at baseline and 3 months post oral iron supplementation. Results: Significantly lower levels (P < 0.05) of CD4+ T-cells and decreased CD4:CD8 ratios were observed in the iron deficient children. Iron supplementation significantly improved the CD4+ cell counts and CD4:CD8 ratios. However, immunoglobulin levels weren't different between the two groups. Objective: To evaluate the clinical as well as histomorphologic features in different cases of endometrial hyperplasia along with its relative occurrence. Materials and Methods: A one-and-a-half-year prospective study was conducted on histopathologically diagnosed cases of endometrial hyperplasia in a tertiary care hospital. Apart from relevant clinical findings, histomorphologic details were noted and statistically analyzed. Observations: Maximum number (46.5 %) of endometrial hyperplasia occurred in patients of 41–50 years age group. Majority (55.2 %) of the patients were found to be premenopausal. Menorrhagia was the most common (49.6 %) clinical presentation followed by postmenopausal bleeding (30.8 %). Simple hyperplasia without atypia was the most common type (95.6 %) followed by complex hyperplasia without atypia (3.6 %) and complex hyperplasia with atypia (0.8 %), respectively. The study of gland–stroma ratio revealed 65:35 to be the most frequent (34 %) ratio; variable-sized glands with cystic dilatation (60.4 %) was the commonest gland architecture and most of the cases (99.2 %) showed the absence of atypia. Associated histopathological findings included a case each of endometrial adenocarcinoma and undifferentiated endometrial stromal sarcoma along with the common leiomyoma and progesterone effects. Conclusion: Menorrhagia was the most common presenting complaint in cases of endometrial hyperplasia. The cases were mostly in the premenopausal age group. Simple endometrial hyperplasia without atypia was the commonest type diagnosed histopathologically. Objectives: Various diagnostic techniques have been evolved over the periods to determine the etiology of abnormal uterine bleeding in peri-menopausal women, but their accuracy has not been compared properly. In this study diagnostic accuracy of trans-vaginal sonography (TVS), saline infusion sonography (SIS) and dilatation & curettage (D & C) were compared with hysteroscopic guided biopsy to determine the etiology. Methods: In this study, 252 patients had to undergo trans-vaginal sonography and saline infusion sonography in the same sitting followed by hysteroscopic-guided biopsy and dilatation and curettage. All the materials were sent for histopathological examination. Results: In determining uterine pathology, positive likelihood ratio (PLR) of TVS, SIS and D & C are 2.81, 7.5 and 3.81 respectively considering hysteroscopy as standard. Conclusion: Sensitivity of SIS as a test for detecting pathology in abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB) is high and can be easily performed on out patient basis. D&C has a very low sensitivity and is unacceptable as a screening test for the same conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Determination of the pattern of HIV/AIDS in patients attending voluntary confidential counseling and testing center (VCCTC) and prevention of parent-to-child transmission (PPTCT) center of a low-prevalence district of Eastern India. To find out high-risk group and interventional strategy for prevention. Method: Cross-sectional exploratory secondary data analysis from the VCCTC and PPTCT register. Result: Of the 1348 participants, 160 (11.86%) adults were HIV seropositive. Prevalence in males and females was 9.8% and 20.7%, respectively. Among 22 (1.63%) seropositive children, transmission was vertical in 18 (81.8%). Seventy-one (88.75%) positive adult males were migratory goldsmiths working in Mumbai and other big cities. They were clustered in a particular locality (Daspur). Conclusion: Goldsmiths migrated from Daspur to big cities are the bridge populations who are responsible for higher prevalence of HIV in their families and locality. The operation of the mid-wave infrared (MWIR) HgCdTe cylindrical electron injection avalanche photodiode (e-APD) is described. The measured gain and excess noise factor are related to the collection region fill factor. A two-dimensional diffusion model calculates the time-dependent response and steady-state pixel point spread function for cylindrical diodes, and predicts bandwidths near 1 GHz for small geometries. A 2 μm diameter spot scan system was developed for point spread function and crosstalk measurements at 80 K. An electron diffusion length of 13.4 μm was extracted from spot scan data. Bandwidth data are shown that indicate bandwidths in excess of 300 MHz for small unit cells geometries. Dark current data, at high gain levels, indicate an effective gain normalized dark density count as low as 1000 counts/ μs/cm2 at an APD gain of 444. The next generation of infrared (IR) sensor systems will include active imaging capabilities. One example of such a system is a gated active/passive system. The gated active/passive system promises target detection and identification at longer ranges compared to conventional passive-only imaging systems. A detector that is capable of both active and passive modes of operation opens up the possibility of a self-aligned system that uses a single focal plane. The mid-wave infrared (MWIR) HgCdTe electron injection avalanche photodiode (e-APD) provides state-of-the-art 3 µm to 5 µm performance for the passive mode and high, low-noise, gain in the active mode, and high quantum efficiency at 1.5 µm. Gains of greater than 1000 have been measured in MWIR e-APDs with a gain-independent excess noise factor of 1.3. This paper reports the application of the mid-wave HgCdTe e-APD for near-IR gated-active/ passive imaging. Specifically a 128 x 128 focal-plane array (FPA) composed of 40-µm-pitch MWIR cutoff APD detectors and custom readout integrated circuit was designed, fabricated, and tested. Median gains as high as 946 at 11 V bias with noise equivalent photon inputs as low as 0.4 photon were measured at 80 K and 1 µs gate times. This subphoton sensitivity is consistent with the high gains, low excess noise factor, and low effective gain normalized dark-current densities, near or below 1 nA/cm², that were achieved in these FPAs. A gated imaging demonstration system was designed and built using commercially available parts. Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma (EAH) is a very rare benign neoplastic condition characterized by hamartomatous proliferation of eccrine glands and accompanying blood vessels and lymphatics. These lesions are more often present at birth or appear during early infancy and childhood and present as solitary nodule or plaque with occasional pain and sweating. They are generally present on the extremities, mostly the palms and soles. We report here a case of EAH in a 20-year-old female who presented with a solitary angiomatous plaque close to the lower eyelid of the right eye with occasional pain and sweating for its rarity. Punctate porokeratosis is a rare variant of porokeratosis. Linear distribution of this entity has been described in very few cases. Hamartomatous, circumscribed swellings of the extremities make an interesting study. Presentations are manifold and the naevi are not always present from birth. Excessive growth of hairs leads to remarkable appearance of such swellings. A young woman presented to the dermatology department, complaining of tenderness over 4th finger of her left hand. The defect was present for the last couple of years and was typified by visible hyperhidrosis on gentle tapping. Counseling of the affected lady made her agree for a skin biopsy. The histopathology revealed it to be of the nature of eccrine angiomatous hamartoma. Blood vessels were scarce. Eccrine ducts were plentiful without other associated anomalies. Aims: This study was taken up with the aim to investigate the pattern of supraclavicular lymphadenopathy among patients presenting to our tertiary care institution, evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), and analyze the diagnostic pitfalls. Materials and Methods: A total of 215 patients were subjected to FNAC of supraclavicular lymph nodes over a three-year period (August 2006 to July 2009). Since in 18 patients as either the aspirate was inadequate or the opinion was equivocal, we analyzed the remaining 197 cases. Results: Malignant pathology accounted for 79.7% (157/197) of the cases. These were mostly cases of metastatic squamous cell carcinoma (79/197, 40.1%), adenocarcinoma (47/197, 23.9%), small cell carcinoma (12/197, 6.1%) and lymphoma (10/197, 5%). There were 28 (14.2%) cases of tuberculosis. Out of these 197 patients, 92 patients were biopsied. The opinion based on FNAC was erroneous in 6 cases but corroborated with the final histopathology findings in the remaining 86 cases. Conclusion: FNAC is an excellent first line of investigation; and when used with a proper combination of experience and diligence, it can greatly reduce the number of errors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A HgCdTe avalanche photodiode (APD) focal plane array assembly with linear mode photon-counting capability has been developed for space lidar applications. An integrated detector cooler assembly (IDCA) has been built using a miniature Stirling cooler. A microlens array has been included to improve the fill factor. The HgCdTe APD has a spectral response from 0.9- to 4.3-μm wavelengths, a photon detection efficiency as high as 70%, and a dark count rate of <250 kHz at 110 K. The mass of the IDCA is 0.8 kg and the total electrical power consumption is about 7 W. The HgCdTe APD arrays have been characterized at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. A series of environmental tests have been conducted for the IDCAs, including vibration, thermal cycling, and thermal vacuum tests.
