The inoculation of forest species with plant growth-promoting bacteria has grown and is increasingly sought to reduce the use of synthetic products. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the effect of the interaction between endophytic bacteria and synthetic indole butyric acid (IBA) on the initial development of Corymbia citriodora x Corymbia torelliana (CcCt) plants. The treatments were established by factorial (6 × 2) + 1, in which the mini-cuttings were inoculated with Pantoea vagans strains 7URP1-6 (B07) and 45URP4-1 (B45), Priestia megaterium (B11), Exiguobacterium sibiricum (B19), Bacillus sp. (B58) and a control treatment with the inoculation vehicle only, followed by immersion in 0 or 1,000 mg kg− 1 of synthetic IBA, plus an additional control not inoculated and treated with 2,000 mg kg− 1 of IBA. In relation to the cuttings treated only with 2,000 mg kg− 1 of IBA, cuttings inoculated with bacteria B07, B11, B19, and B58 had a similar survival rate, an increase of 29–36% in the percentage of rooting and of 27–34% in plant height, produced rooted cuttings with larger collar diameters and greater dry mass of roots and shoots, and a greater number of colony forming units of bacteria in the rhizosphere and in root and shoot tissues. The inoculation of mini-cuttings of CcCt with B07, B11, B19 and B58, followed by immersion in 1,000 mg kg− 1 of IBA improved the development of rooted cuttings relative to inoculated cuttings without IBA treatment, although it is not known if the effect is directly attributable to these bacterial strains. Brazil is one of the countries most affected by COVID-19, with the highest number of deaths recorded. Brazilian Health Institutions have reported four main peaks of positive COVID-19 cases. The last two waves were characterized by the emergence of the VOC Omicron and its sublineages. This study aimed to conduct a retrospective surveillance study illustrating the emergence, dissemination, and diversification of the VOC Omicron in 15 regional health units (RHUs) in MG, the second most populous state in Brazil, by combining epidemiological and genomic data. A total of 5643 confirmed positive COVID-19 samples were genotyped using the panels TaqMan SARS-CoV-2 Mutation and 4Plex SC2/VOC Bio-Manguinhos to define mutations classifying the BA.1, BA.2, BA.4, and BA.5 sublineages. While sublineages BA.1 and BA.2 were more prevalent during the third wave, BA.4 and BA.5 dominated the fourth wave in the state. Epidemiological and viral genome data suggest that age and vaccination with booster doses were the main factors related to clinical outcomes, reducing the number of deaths, irrespective of the Omicron sublineages. Complete genome sequencing of 253 positive samples confirmed the circulation of the BA.1, BA.2, BA.4, and BA.5 subvariants, and phylogenomic analysis demonstrated that the VOC Omicron was introduced through multiple international events, followed by transmission within the state of MG. In addition to the four subvariants, other lineages have been identified at low frequency, including BQ.1.1 and XAG. This integrative study reinforces that the evolution of Omicron sublineages was the most significant factor driving the highest peaks of positive COVID-19 cases without an increase in more severe cases, prevented by vaccination boosters. This cross-sectional study employs structural equation modelling (sEM) to explore both direct and indirect effects of parental level of education and child individual factors on the length-for-age outcomes in children aged 6–24 months assisted by the Bolsa Família Program in the State of Alagoas. A total of 1448 children were analysed by the sEM technique. A negative standardised direct effect (sDE) of the children's younger age (sDE: −0·06; P = 0·017), the use of bottle feeding (sDE: −0·11; P < 0·001) and lack of a minimum acceptable diet (sDE: −0·09; P < 0·001) on the length-for-age indicator was found. Being female (SDE: 0·08; P = 0·001), a higher birth weight (SDE: 0·33; P < 0·001), being ever breastfed (sdE: 0·07; P = 0·004) and a higher level of parental education (SDE: 0·09; P < 0·001) showed a positive SDE effect on the child's length-for-age. The model also demonstrated a negative standardised indirect effect (SIE) of the sweet beverage consumption (SIE: −0·08; P = 0·003) and a positive effect of being ever breastfed (SIE: 0·06; P = 0·017) on the child's length-for-age through parental level of education as a mediator. This research underscores the crucial role of proper feeding practices and provides valuable insights for the development of targeted interventions, policies and programmes to improve nutritional well-being and promote adequate linear growth and development among young children facing similar challenges. Introduction: Kimura’s disease (KD) is a rare chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by subcutaneous lymphoid hyperplasia with peripheral eosinophilia. Kidney involvement is reported in 15%–18% of adult patients with KD, in many cases as nephrotic syndrome. We present a case of overlapping membranous nephropathy and IgA nephropathy associated with KD. Case report: A 27-year-old man was admitted with a history of bilateral leg edema for the last 2 months and concomitant progressive increase of cervical mass and fever. Laboratory findings were as follows: peripheral leukocyte count, 10,080/mm³; eosinophils, 3,200/mm³ (31.7%); serum creatinine, 0.83 mg/dL; and eGFR: 140 mL/min per 1.73 m². Urinalysis revealed the presence of hematuria and proteinuria and the following results: 24-h proteinuria, 12.9 g; serum albumin, 1.3 g/dL; and elevated IgE level, 750 kU/L. Serologies for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and VDRL were all negative. Complement C3 and C4 levels were normal. No monoclonal protein was detected in blood and urine. Parasite infestation was discarded. A biopsy of the cervical lymph node revealed eosinophilic lymphoid hyperplasia, suggesting KD. A kidney biopsy revealed findings consistent with the overlapping of membranous nephropathy with IgA nephropathy. The patient was treated for KD with prednisone 1 mg/kg/d with progressive dose tapering and posterior association of methotrexate 15 mg/week. A renin–angiotensin system inhibitor was prescribed for nephrotic syndrome. The cervical mass regressed, and proteinuria achieved partial remission, with an increase in serum albumin level and normalization of eosinophils and IgE levels. Sleep disorders and changes in the profile of the cortisol awakening response (CAR) are potential predictive factors for the incidence of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, these parameters usually are evaluated separately, lacking information regarding the simultaneous association of sleep disorders and CAR, mainly throughout the MDD severity. This study addressed the relationship between sleep quality and CAR in patients with initial/mild depression (MD, n = 30) versus advanced/treatment-resistant (TRD, n = 28), compared with a group of healthy controls (CG, n = 49), aiming to point out in a clinical perspective which alterations in sleep and CAR have been observed along major depression severity stages. TRD patients presented a blunted CAR and poorer sleep quality comparing MD and CG groups. Additionally, MD patients showed worse sleep quality and larger CAR than CG. Taken together, both sleep quality and CAR were correlated with MDD symptoms and predictors of MDD severity, with a greater classification power for sleep quality. From sleep quality, specifically, the use of sleep medication and sleep efficiency predicted depression severity, discriminating mild and treatment-resistant depression. These results show the importance of assessing sleep quality and CAR in patients with major depression when there is a need for evaluation of the disorder's severity in a clinical context. CAR and sleep quality can be useful complementary tools to help in the clinical identification of major depression severity and the understanding of their impact on MDD may support further studies that aim to improve intervention strategies to increase the effectiveness of treatments. Purpose: This study aimed to assess the association of anxiety, headache, and insomnia on the QoL of patients with long COVID-19. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey between August 2020 and March 2023. A total of 200 participants were eligible, 53 were excluded and 147 patients with long COVID were included. QoL was evaluated across eight domains using the 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Standardized protocols including the Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) (n = 103), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) (n = 73), and Migraine Disability Assessment (MIDAS) (n = 67) were also used. Results: Participants with sleep disorders had significantly lower Vitality (p < 0.001). Participants with anxiety disorders had significantly lower Vitality (p = 0.001), poorer Mental Health (p = 0.008), and more severe Bodily Pain (p = 0.008). Participants with headache had significantly lower Vitality (p = 0.032), poorer Mental Health (p = 0.036), and poorer Physical Functioning (p = 0.016). Participants with both headache and anxiety had significantly lower Vitality (p = 0.005) and Mental Health (p = 0.043) domain scores. Correlation analysis revealed that higher scores for anxiety, sleep disorder, and headache were independently correlated with poorer QoL across various domains. The presence of sleep disorder was associated with a fourfold increase in risk of experiencing diminished Vitality (odds ratio [OR]4.47; 95% CI 1.01-19.69; p = 0.048). Conclusion: Participants with anxiety, sleep, and headache disorders tended to have a worse QoL. The Vitality and Mental Health domains were the most adversely affected in patients with long COVID. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of inoculants of endophytic bacteria producing indoleacetic acid (IAA) on the physiological quality of seeds and the production of seedlings of Corymbia citriodora (Hook.) KD Hill & LAS Johnson. In the physiological quality test of the seeds, the treatments used were individual inoculation with Priestia megaterium, Exiguobacterium sibiricum, Pantoea vagans strain 45URP4-1, and Bacillus sp.; joint effect of the four strains (mix); inoculation only with the carrier (cassava starch and activated charcoal); carrier with 1.0 μg mL−1 of IAA; and non-inoculated control without IAA and without a carrier. In the production of seedlings in a greenhouse, the treatments were the same, except for the mix, which was replaced by P. vagans strain 7URP1-6 (Pvs7), as inoculation with the mix increased the number of abnormal seedlings. In the physiological quality test of seeds, seeds inoculated with the bacteria individually did not have the physiological quality impaired and the carrier created a microenvironment around the seeds, benefiting germination percentage, germination speed index, average germination time, and average germination speed. In the greenhouse, seedlings inoculated with Pvs7, P. megaterium and E. sibiricum were taller, with a larger stem diameter and dry mass of shoot, roots, and total. Seeds inoculated with E. sibiricum had higher averages for height, chlorophyll b content, and shoot and total dry mass, as well as a greater ability to colonize the rhizosphere and roots of C. citriodora, resulting in the production of higher-quality seedlings. Background: Low prevalence of physical activity (PA) and a high prevalence of mental health problems are common among youth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between PA during adolescence and depression and anxiety disorders in young adulthood. Methods: Data from the 1993 Pelotas (Brazil) Birth Cohort Study were analyzed. Leisure-time PA and total PA (leisure plus commuting) were evaluated at 11, 15, and 18 years using self-reported data. PA was evaluated at each age separately and during adolescence, considering the number of times participants reached PA recommendations. Depression and anxiety were assessed through Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview at 22 years. Crude and adjusted association analyses were performed using Poisson regression with robust error variance, providing prevalence ratios and 95% confidence intervals. Results: Three thousand two hundred and forty-seven participants were included in the study. In the adjusted analyses, active participants in leisure-time PA (≥300 min/wk) and total PA at 11 years were less likely to be depressed at age 22 (prevalence ratios: 0.54; 95% confidence interval, 0.33–0.89; prevalence ratios: 0.63; 95% confidence interval, 0.41–0.97). For leisure-time PA, the more PA recommendations were met during adolescence, the lower the prevalence of depression. There was no association when PA variables were evaluated separately at 15 and 18 years and between PA and anxiety after controlling for potential confounders. Conclusions: Early adolescence appears to be a sensitive period for PA benefits on depression in early adulthood. The more timepoints reaching PA recommendations during adolescence, the lower the risk of depression. On the other hand, PA during adolescence was not associated with anxiety in young adults. Inhibition of HIV-1 protease is a cornerstone of antiretroviral therapy. However, the notorious ability of HIV-1 to develop resistance to protease inhibitors (PIs), particularly darunavir (DRV), poses a major challenge. Using quantum chemistry and computer simulations, this study aims to investigate the interactions between two novel PIs, GRL-004 and GRL-063, as well as a wild-type (WT) HIV strain and a DRV-resistant mutant strain. To do this, we used molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and quantum mechanical calculations to check how well GRL-004 and GRL-063 bound to both WT and DRV-resistant proteases. The results show that GRL-004 and GRL-063 bind very well to ASP29 in the WT strain. ASP29 is an important amino acid in the HIV protease dimer. Remarkably, amino acids such as ILE50 in the WT strains showed substantial binding energies to both drugs. Quantum energy calculations showed a slight reduction in the energy affinity of the interaction between the MUT strain and the ligand GRL-063, compared to the WT strain. GRL-004 showed similar interaction energy for both strains, suggesting that it has greater plasticity than GRL-063 despite its lower interaction affinity. Furthermore, GLY49B demonstrated strong binding energies regardless of mutations. Other relevant residues with strong binding energies include GLY49B, PHE82A, PRO81A, ASP29A, ASP25A and ALA28B. This study improves our understanding of receptor–ligand dynamics and the adaptability of new protease inhibitors (PIs), which has profound implications for the innovation of future antiretroviral drugs. Essential oils are a vast class of compounds that have many interesting therapeutical properties. In this sense, tea tree oil (TTO) stands out for its antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antihyperproliferative potential. However, the low stability and solubility of these compounds can limit their therapeutical capacity, making it necessary to adopt a strategy to overcome this mishap. In that regard, nanoencapsulation can be highlighted as a promising maneuver capable of protecting the active and increasing its solubility in water, promoting greater compatibility and bioavailability. Based on the above, the main objective of this study was to evaluate polycaprolactone/Pluronic F-127 PCL/F-127 polymeric nanoparticles loaded with 10–30% w/w TTO obtained via nanoprecipitation. The obtained particles were evaluated by atomic force microscopy and UV–Vis spectroscopy to determine retention efficiency and obtain the release profile (with the evaluation of release models), time-domain nuclear magnetic resonance, antimicrobial activity, and cytotoxicity in fibroblasts and epithelial cells. The obtained results show the formation of particles of spherical-type morphology particles with smooth surfaces and particle sizes around 400 nm, with retention efficiencies between 60 and 70% and sustained release profile for up to about 6 or 7 h and compatible with the Higuchi model. Regarding the antimicrobial activity of the systems, it was observed that TTO presents antimicrobial activity against the evaluated strains (S. aureus, C.albicans, and E.coli) and that the encapsulation process can increase the activity against the strain of E. coli. Finally, the cytocompatibility analyses showed that the NNPs obtained are not cytotoxic to the cell lines evaluated. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: Poor Food security (FS) is associated with risk of diet-related diseases and rising healthcare costs. Produce Prescription Interventions (PRx) are emerging clinical tools to improve FS and diet quality, but their impact in families with children is not well established. This study evaluates the impact of a pediatric PRx on FS and nutrition-related behaviors. Methods: Adult caregivers of children (0-18) were enrolled within a 6-month produce delivery and nutrition education intervention. A validated food security survey was administered pre/post intervention to determine FS scores and "Food Secure" status. Statistical analyses tested pre-post differences in FS scores and proportion of scores within the "Food Secure" range. Semi-structured interviews were performed post-intervention to explore families' experiences with low FS and healthy behaviors and were thematically analyzed. Results: Between October 2021 and December 2022, 82 families were enrolled, 65 completed FS survey at baseline and 54 completed it at post-intervention. FS scores improved post-intervention (P <.05) and a greater proportion of household- and child-level scores fell within the "Food Secure" range post-intervention (P <.05). Twenty-eight interviews were analyzed. Three salient themes were identified: (1) value of healthcare-based screening and intervention, (2) food and education motivate behavior change, and (3) perceptions of post-intervention lifestyle sustainability. Conclusions: Participation in the PRx was associated with improvements in FS and nutrition-related attitudes and behaviors. PRx can be implemented by health systems to improve FS and health behaviors associated with risk for diet-related diseases. Heart failure (HF) and renal dysfunction often coexist and interact in many complex and bidirectional pathways, leading to detrimental effects on patient outcomes. The treatment of HF patients with renal dysfunction presents a significant clinical challenge. Interestingly, sacubitril/valsartan, an angiotensin receptor–neprilysin inhibitor (ARNI), may have beneficial effects on cardiac and renal outcomes in patients with HF with reduced ejection fraction, particularly by slowing the rate of decrease in the estimated glomerular filtration rate compared to a single angiotensin–converting enzyme inhibitor. Recently, more reports have emphasized the renal protection of sacubitril/valsartan in patients with HF. In HF patients with renal dysfunction, however, there is no strong evidence supporting the use of sacubitril/valsartan to reduce the absolute risk of hyperkalemia and worsening renal function; therefore, the administration of ARNI requires a careful balance between the benefits and risks. Furthermore, the lack of evidence‐based management highlights the importance of an individualized approach based on published experience and multidisciplinary collaborations, as well as underlines the need for in‐depth studies investigating the underlying mechanisms in cardiorenal interactions with a focus on treatments. Tuberculosis (TB) and depression is common and is associated with poor TB outcomes. The World Health Organization End TB Strategy explicitly calls for the integration of TB and mental health services. Interpersonal Counseling (IPC) is a brief evidence-based treatment for depression that can be delivered by non-mental health specialists with expert supervision. The goal of this study was to explore potential barriers and facilitators to training non-specialist providers to deliver IPC within the TB Control Program and primary care in Itaboraí, Rio de Janeiro state. Data collection consisted of six focus groups (n = 42) with health professionals (n = 29), program coordinators (n = 7), and persons with TB (n = 6). We used open coding to analyze the data, followed by deductive coding using the Chaudoir multi-level framework for implementation outcomes. The main structural barriers identified were poverty, limited access to treatment, political instability, violence, and social stigma. Organizational barriers included an overburdened and under-resourced health system with high staff turnover. Despite high levels of stress and burnout among health professionals, several provider-level facilitators emerged including a high receptivity to, and demand for, mental health training; strong community relationships through the community health workers; and overall acceptance of IPC delivered by any type of health provider. Patients were also receptive to IPC being delivered by any type of professional. No intervention-specific barriers or facilitators were identified. Despite many challenges, integrating depression treatment into primary care in Itaboraí using IPC was perceived as acceptable, feasible, and desirable. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Key message: Climate change can limit yields of naturally resilient crops, like sorghum, challenging global food security. Agriculture under an erratic climate requires tapping into a reservoir of flexible adaptive loci that can lead to lasting yield stability under multiple abiotic stress conditions. Domesticated in the hot and dry regions of Africa, sorghum is considered a harsh crop, which is adapted to important stress factors closely related to climate change. To investigate the genetic basis of drought stress adaptation in sorghum, we used a multi-environment multi-locus genome-wide association study (MEML-GWAS) in a subset of a diverse sorghum association panel (SAP) phenotyped for performance both under well-watered and water stress conditions. We selected environments in Brazil that foreshadow agriculture where both drought and temperature stresses coincide as in many tropical agricultural frontiers. Drought reduced average grain yield (Gy) by up to 50% and also affected flowering time (Ft) and plant height (Ph). We found 15 markers associated with Gy on all sorghum chromosomes except for chromosomes 7 and 9, in addition to loci associated with phenology traits. Loci associated with Gy strongly interacted with the environment in a complex way, while loci associated with phenology traits were less affected by G × E. Studying environmental covariables potentially underpinning G × E, increases in relative humidity and evapotranspiration favored and disfavored grain yield, respectively. High temperatures influenced G × E and reduced sorghum yields, with a ~ 100 kg ha−1 average decrease in grain yield for each unit increase in maximum temperature between 29 and 38 °C. Extreme G × E for sorghum stress resilience poses an additional challenge to breed crops for moving, erratic weather conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study examined the clinimetrics of the Brazilian-Portuguese translation of the Grade-4/5 Motor Activity Log (MAL 4/5), which assesses everyday use of the more affected upper-limb (UL) in stroke survivors with moderate/severe or severe motor impairment. Materials and Methods: The translated MAL 4/5 was administered to 47 stroke survivors with moderate/severe or severe UL motor impairment. Accelerometers were worn on participants' wrists for five days on average prior to the first assessment. Test-retest and inter-rater reliabilities were assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), internal consistency using Cronbach's α, and construct validity was tested with correlations with the accelerometry. The measurement error (SEM) and the minimal detectable change (MDC) were calculated. Results: MAL4/5-Brazil's test-retest reliability (AOU: ICC = 0.84; QOU: ICC = 0.90), inter-rater reliability (AOU: ICC = 0.83; QOU: ICC = 0.91), internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.91 and 0.95 for AOU and QOU scales, respectively), the SEM and MDC were 0.3 and 0.8 points for the AOU subscale and 0.2 and 0.5 points for the QOU subscale, respectively. The construct validity (AOU scale: r = 0.67; QOU scale: r = 0.76) was high. Conclusion: Grade-4/5 Motor Activity Log-Brazil is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the more-affected UL use of stroke patients with moderate/severe or severe UL motor impairments. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Reliability and concurrent validity of the Grade-4/5 MAL-Brazil were established in adults with hemiparesis moderate/severe or severe upper extremity post Stroke. The minimum detectable change for the Grade-4/5 MAL-Brazil was 0.8 points for the Amount of Use scale and 0.5 points for the Quality of Use scale. Data from the accelerometry supports the construct validity of this instrument. Adequate neutral detergent insoluble fiber (NDF) content in the total diet can improve intake efficiency, prevent rumen disorders, and enhance the health and performance of feedlot-finished beef cattle. We hypothesized that an increase in dietary fiber levels would decrease the productive performance but increase the economic performance of young bulls in confinement. Thus, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of increasing fiber levels on feed intake, wastage, and productive and economic performance of Nellore young bulls finished in confinement. We used 20 Nellore cattle, non-castrated males, 30 months old, and average body weight (BW) of 416.35 ± 2.2 kg distributed in a completely randomized design, kept in individual stalls. Animals were divided into four treatments consisting of four levels of neutral detergent insoluble fiber (NDF) (25%, 30%, 35%, and 40% NDF) in total DM. Nutrient intake, feed conversion, feed waste, body weight (BW) at slaughter, total weight gain (TWG), average daily gain (ADG), hot carcass weight (HCW), and carcass yield (CR) were evaluated. In addition, economic parameters (revenue, food expenses, and gross margin) were calculated and compared. The dry matter (DMI), organic matter (OMI), crude protein (CPI), and ether extract (EEI) intakes showed quadratic behavior. The DMI maximum estimated was 28.5% NDF in the diet. The NDF and ADF intakes showed a positive linear effect and the starch intake had a negative linear effect. There was a significant positive linear effect (P < 0.05) for the variables total mixed ration (TMR) offered and daily and total RTM intake. Minimum RTM wastage was estimated with a diet containing 30% NDF. The maximum points for BW at slaughter, HCW, and ADG were 29.9%; 29.6%, and 25% NDF, respectively. The costs of concentrate and silage showed a positive linear behavior, as did the ADG costs and the carcass equivalent cost (P < 0.05). The maximum point of the revenue estimate (US$/animal) was 29.9% of NDF, 26.1% of NDF for the total expenditure on food (US$/animal), and 32.5% of NDF for the gross margin (U$/animal). In conclusion, the animals fed a 30% NDF diet showed the best performance and economics, in addition to less food waste. This study evaluates the possible agricultural application of calcium carbonate derived from niobium extraction. This carbonate is stored in dams, and it is enriched with radionuclides from 232Th series, which imposes restrictions on its use. Activity concentration evaluation in soil was performed before the tillage of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) and the soil–plant transfer factor was determined. Results showed the dilution factor applied to the carbonate in the soil causes insignificant increments in soil activity concentration. Background: Anxiety symptoms are factors that directly affect eating habits, but this interference can be heterogeneous depending on the nutritional status of the individuals. Objectives: To analyze whether the presence of anxiety symptoms at the beginning of the pandemic influenced the change in food consumption according to its purpose and extent of processing during a one-year follow-up and whether this association occurs equally with excess weight and without excess weight university students. Methods: This longitudinal study was carried out with 583 university students from a public Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Brazil. The Generalized Estimating Equation (GEE) was used to verify whether anxiety symptoms were associated with changes in food consumption over time. Results: The results showed that previous moderate/severe anxiety symptoms were associated with an increased frequency of consumption of both fresh or minimally processed foods (β: 0.2 95%CI: 0.1; 0.7 p = 0.013) and ultra-processed foods (β: 5.6 95%CI: 1.8; 17.7 p = 0.003), but with different magnitudes. In university students who were not excess weight, previous moderate/severe anxiety symptoms were associated with a reduction in the frequency of consumption of fresh or minimally processed foods (β: −2.0 95%CI: −3.5; −0.5 p = 0.008), while in those who were excess weight, there was an increase in consumption of ultra-processed foods (β: 4.5 95%CI: 2.2; 6.8 p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study confirms the influence of anxiety symptoms on food consumption according to the extent and purpose of processing. In addition, these results emphasize the role of psychological distress in the university population, and that this factor can affect excess weight and without excess weight individuals differently. Levodopa is the most widely used medication for the symptomatic treatment of Parkinson's disease and, despite being an "old" drug, is still considered the gold standard for offering symptomatic relief. The pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics of levodopa have been studied extensively. Our review explores the molecular mechanisms that affect the absorption of this drug, focusing on the large intra- and interindividual variability of absorption that is commonly encountered in daily clinical practice, and on the interaction with other medications. Overactivation of the classic arm of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS) is one of the main mechanisms involved in obesity-related cardiac remodeling, and a possible relationship between RAS and ER stress in the cardiovascular system have been described. Thus, the aim of this study is to evaluate if activating the protective arm of the RAS by ACE inhibition or aerobic exercise training could overturn diet-induced pathological cardiac hypertrophy by attenuating ER stress. Male C57BL/6 mice were fed a control (SC) or a high-fat diet (HF) for 16 weeks. In the 8th week, HF-fed animals were randomly divided into HF, enalapril treatment (HF-En), and aerobic exercise training (HF-Ex) groups. Body mass (BM), food and energy intake, plasma analyzes, systolic blood pressure (SBP), physical conditioning, and plasma ACE and ACE2 activity were evaluated. Cardiac morphology, and protein expression of hypertrophy, cardiac metabolism, RAS, and ER stress markers were assessed. Data presented as mean ± standard deviation and analyzed by one-way ANOVA with Holm–Sidak post-hoc. HF group had increased BM and SBP, and developed pathological concentric cardiac hypertrophy, with overactivation of the classic arm of the RAS, and higher ER stress. Both interventions reverted the increase in BM, and SBP, and favored the protective arm of the RAS. Enalapril treatment improved pathological cardiac hypertrophy with partial reversal of the concentric pattern, and slightly attenuated cardiac ER stress. The aim of this study was to examine the moderating role of cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) between the relationship of cardiometabolic risk factors and adiponectin in adolescents. This is a cross-sectional study conducted with 255 adolescents of both sexes, aged 11 to 17 years. Anthropometric and biochemical parameters such as body mass, height, fat mass (FM), fat-free mass, high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, glucose, insulin, adiponectin, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and peak oxygen consumption (VO2peak) were measured. Body mass index z-score (BMI-z), tri-ponderal mass index (TMI), homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (QUICKI), and age peak height velocity were calculated. The moderation analyses were tested using linear regression models. Interaction was observed with low CRF, indicating that those who achieved more than 2.27 (BMI-z), 2.18 (TMI), 2.10 (FM), 2.57 (insulin), 2.65 (HOMA-IR), and 2.81 (QUICKI) in L·min−1 on the CRF test may experience reduced risks in cardiometabolic risk factors. Conclusion: The deleterious effects attributed to excess adiposity and unfavorable changes related to insulin resistance and sensitivity may be attenuated by CRF. Strategies for controlling hypertension include reducing excess fat and increasing muscle mass. However, the effects of exercise interventions on hypertension in adolescents have been little investigated. The purpose was to evaluate the effect of 12 weeks of aerobic exercise on systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and the cardiometabolic profile of overweight hypertensive and non-hypertensive boys. The sample included 107 boys diagnosed as overweight, aged between 12 and 17, divided into two non-hypertension groups, one control (GCN, n = 14) and one with exercise (GEN, n = 55), as well as two groups of hypertensives, one control (GCH, n = 12) and one with exercise (GEH, n = 26). The boys were assessed at the study baseline and after 12 weeks in terms of anthropometric parameters, biological maturation, SBP, DBP and mean blood pressure (MBP), lipid, and metabolic profile. The aerobic training programs lasted 12 weeks and were carried out in three weekly sessions at different intensities. The high-intensity interval training session lasted around 35 min at an intensity of 80–100% of the reserve heart rate, and the moderate-intensity of continuous training session lasted 60 min at an intensity of 35–75% of the reserve heart rate. Caloric expenditure was equivalent between the exercises (p = 0.388). CGN and CGH participated only in school physical activities. Repeated measures analysis of variance and clinical effect analysis using Cohen's effect size were used, with a significance level established at p < 0.05. After 12 weeks, all groups increased their height (p < 0.05), but only the exercise groups showed a reduction in anthropometric variables (p < 0.05), with a possibly beneficial effect in GEN (d = − 0.203; p = 0.003). No differences were found in the variables for the GCN. The GCH and GEH groups reduced SBP (p < 0.05), but only GEH showed a reduction in DBP (p = 0.005) and MBP (p = 0.001). In relation to the lipid profile, GEH maintained HDL-c close to baseline values, while GCH showed a reduction in HDL-c (p = 0.021). Regarding the clinical effect of exercise on hypertension, GEH showed a large and very beneficial effect size on DBP (d = − 0.916; p = 0.006) and MBP (d = − 0.926; p = 0.005). Conclusion: Hypertensive boys who practiced physical exercise showed greater effects in reducing blood pressure, indicating the importance of non-drug therapeutic management in overweight adolescents. The benefits of less repetitive practice schedules on motor learning are usually described in terms of greater demand for memory processes. The present study aimed to investigate the interactions between working memory and practice schedule and their effects on motor learning. Forty female participants had their WMC evaluated by the N-back test and were randomly allocated to either the variable random (VP) or the constant practice (CP) groups. In the acquisition phase, participants practiced 120 trials of a sequential key-pressing task with two goals: learning the relative and the absolute timing. Delayed retention and transfer tests occurred 24 h after the acquisition phase. Participants performed 12 trials of the motor task. Results showed that in the CP, learners with a high level of WMC presented better motor performance in the transfer test than learners with a low level of WMC. In the RP, no difference between WMC levels was found. Learners with a high level of WMC in the CP presented the same motor performance as learners in the RP regardless of the WMC level in the transfer test. In conclusion, learners with a high WMC could compensate for the poor working memory stimulation of a more repetitive practice schedule. Phosphate fertilizer is necessary in Brachiaria species to boost fodder yield and nitrogen uptake. Know Plant response the phosphate guides nutrient dosing for optimal growth. The goal was to assess how phosphorus (P) dose affected forage production and macronutrient uptake in forage plants during the establishment period. The experimental design was in a 9 × 2 factorial scheme. Nine forage plants of the genus Brachiaria were evaluated: B. decumbens cv. Basilisk, B. humidícola cv. BRS Tupi, B. humidícola, B. ruziziensis, B. brizantha cvs. Marandu, BRS Piatã, Xaraés, BRS Paiaguás and hybrid (B. brizantha × B. ruziziensis) cv. BRS Ipyporã, two doses of P: 6 and 72 mg/dm−3 of P. At the lowest dose of P, the most productive forages were Paiaguás and ruziziensis. In contrast, at the highest dose of P, the forages ruziziensis, Basilisk, Piatã, Paiaguás and Xaraés were the most productive. When compared to the use of 6 mg/dm−3 P, dose of 72 mg/dm−3 P generated an increase in forage production of 803%. The greater forage production provided by the higher P content in the soil is reflected in greater uptakes of macronutrients by forages, following the decreasing order of N > K > Mg > Ca > S = P. The highest efficiencies to produce 1 g of dry matter (DM) at doses of 6 and 72 mg/dm−3 of P were observed in the Paiaguás and humidicola, respectively. In soils with more readily available phosphorus, macronutrient conversion into plant material is more effective. Beefalo is a fertile hybrid descendant of domestic cattle (Bos taurus) and American buffalo (Bison bison). Crossbred (¾Beefalo¼Nellore) beef cattle raised and finished in a feedlot or on pasture were evaluated for the effect of two ages (8 and 13 months) at castration on nutrient intake, performance, and carcass characteristics. In the feedlot, they received a total diet with a roughage:concentrate ratio of 55:45, and those kept on Brachiaria decumbens pastures were supplemented at 0.8% of body weight (BW) with the same concentrate based on corn and soybean meal (17.8% CP and 73% TDN). Thirty-six crossbred (¾ Beefalo ¼ Nellore) beef cattle with 209.2 ± 14.6 kg BW were used, which at weaning, at 8 months of age, were randomly divided into two groups, one of them destined to the feedlot system and the other group to the supplementation system on pasture. In each system (feedlot and pasture) the following treatments were distributed: castration at 8 months (at weaning, C8), castration at 13 months (C13), and non-castrated (NC), with six animals per treatment by system. All animals were slaughtered at 18 months of age. There was no significant interaction between the systems and castration ages for all variables studied. The averages of slaughter weight of feedlot animals were 475.6; 494.3 and 510.7 kg; and finished in pasture were 424.3; 428.0 and 418.7 kg for C8, C13, and NC treatments, respectively. The average subcutaneous fat thickness of the feedlot steers were 4.5, 3.5, and 1.3 mm, and for pasture-finished steers were 2.4, 1.6, and 1.8 mm for C8, C13, and NC treatments, respectively. Non-castrated animals have greater performance and carcass characteristics than castrated animals independent of the finished system. Animals non-castrated finished on Brachiaria grass pastures and slaughtered at 18 months of age require more intensive feeding management or even greater age at slaughter to obtain an ideal carcass finishing despite castration. Background: Changes to the food environment during the Covid-19 pandemic significantly influenced food acquisition and consumption, contributing to a higher prevalence of food insecurity. We assessed the perception of the food environment and its association with food insecurity in households of Brazilian schoolchildren during the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional telephone survey between March and May 2021 with adults (n = 475) responsible for purchasing and/or preparing food at the students' homes aged between 6 months and 17 years enrolled in public school from two Brazilian municipalities. We assessed outcomes using the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale (EBIA). We measured perceptions of the food environment by evaluating the perceived availability, price, and quality of fruits and vegetables (FV) and ultra-processed foods (UPF) sold in the neighbourhood. Results: The results indicate that 55.1% of respondents experienced mild food insecurity, and 14.5% experienced moderate or severe food insecurity. The perception of the ease of purchase (8.5% vs. 64.2%) and variety (78.9% vs. 57.9%) of UPF was higher at all levels of food security and insecurity compared to the same questions on FV. The level of food insecurity was associated with the perceived price of FV (p < 0.05). A negative perception of the quality (OR:1.92; CI:1.04–3.56) and the price of FV (OR:3.56; CI:1.41–8.98) were associated with moderate/severe food insecurity. Conclusions: The affordability of FV is important for food-insecure households. Social protection policies for vulnerable families are crucial interventions that can strengthen and promote healthier food environments with greater availability of fresh foods such as fruits and vegetables. Objective: To evaluate the association between sedentary behavior (SB), moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and sleep duration. Methods: Data from the 2017–2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was analyzed. SB was assessed based on the average daily sitting time, while MVPA was estimated by the frequency and duration of leisure and work-related activities. The ratio of time spent in MVPA to time in SB was analyzed, and a thresholds of ≥ 1.0, 2.5 and 10 min of MVPA per sedentary hour was used to determine sufficiency for mitigating the effects of a sedentary lifestyle. Sleep duration was measured by the average hours slept on weekdays and weekends, classified according to National Sleep Foundation guidelines. The measures of SB, MVPA, and sleep were self-reported. Descriptive statistics were used to characterize the sample, and multivariate logistic regression was applied to assess the associations between movement behaviors and sleep duration. Results: The study included 5,533 participants, with 51.8% women, predominantly aged 26–64 years (66.1%). Insufficient physical activity was reported by 59.6% at work and 62.5% during leisure time. Recommended sleep duration was observed in 84.4% of the sample. Adjusted multivariate analysis revealed that individuals engaging in ≥ 2.5 min of MVPA during leisure-time for each sedentary hour were 38.9% less likely to experience short-term sleep (OR:0.72;95%CI:0.53–0.97). Conversely, those who performed the same amount of MVPA at work were 57.0% more likely to have short-term sleep (OR:1.57;95%CI:1.16–2.12). Conclusion: Meeting the MVPA threshold during leisure-time reduces the likelihood of short-term sleep, while higher MVPA levels at work increase the likelihood of short-term sleep. Examining ecosystem functioning through the lens of trait diversity serves as a valuable proxy. It offers crucial insights into how exploitation affects the specific ecological roles played by fisheries targeted species. The present study investigates the potential impacts of exploitation on the ecological roles of fish species targeted by fisheries through an examination of trait diversity. It focuses on the trait diversity of fish landed by local and coastal fleets in the Azores archipelago over the past four decades. Fourteen functional traits were merged to data on fish assemblages landed by both fishing fleets from 1980 to 2020. These traits corresponded to four fundamental fish functions: habitat use, locomotion, feeding and life history. Variability in functional diversity metrics (i.e., functional richness- FRic, functional evenness- FEve, functional divergence-FDiv, and functional dispersion- FDis) among fleets, functions and across decades was assessed using null models. The results revealed similar trait diversity between assemblages landed by local and coastal fishing fleets with overall trait diversity remaining relatively stable over time. However, fishery activities targeted a wide range of functional traits. Additionally, seasonal availability and increased catches of certain fish species can significantly alter trait diversity and their associated functions. The findings highlight the importance of addressing fishing impacts on species traits and their ecological roles, which is crucial for long-term fisheries and ecological sustainability. In this research, a smart manufacturing approach was used to enhance the mechanical properties of aluminum (Al) for lightweight applications. The smart manufacturing involved cryomilling of Al powders with and without 5 wt.% magnesium (Mg) powders for varying durations followed by a high-pressure cold spray (HPCS) additive manufacturing process to prepare bulk components. The morphological changes, crystallite size, and composition of the cryomilled powders and cold sprayed (CS'ed) components were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The results showed that the crystallite size reduces with an increase in cryomilling time and the addition of Mg dopant. To test the mechanical properties of the bulk CS'ed components, microhardness tests were performed using a Vickers microhardness tester. Uniaxial tensile tests were also carried out to ascertain the material's tensile properties. The mechanical testing results showed great improvement in the hardness and tensile strength of CS'ed Al–Mg samples as compared to pure Al samples. Subsequently, fractography analysis of the tensile failed samples was carried out to determine the nature of the failure. The research article also discusses the inherent mechanisms for the improvement in mechanical properties of smart manufactured components as a result of Mg doping and cryomilling. Aim: To evaluate real-world data on treatment patterns in Argentina and Brazil in patients with ovarian cancer. Methods: This study evaluated de-identified antineoplastic exposure data from a private healthcare provider in Argentina and health claims database (Orizon) in Brazil from 2010 to 2019 and 2015 to 2020, respectively. Results: Platinum-based chemotherapy was the most common first-line therapy (Argentina: n =311 [87.6%]; Brazil: n = 1142 [79.3%]). The proportion of patients receiving platinum-based chemotherapy declined across both populations from first- to second-line, while use of non–platinum-based, targeted, and hormone therapies increased. Duration of platinum-based treatment and time to next treatment decreased from first- to fourth-line. Conclusion: There is an unmet need for effective therapies that can prolong time to next treatment in ovarian cancer in Argentina and Brazil. Antineoplastic exposure data were captured from databases in Argentina (Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires) and Brazil (Orizon) from 2010 to 2019 and 2015 to 2020, respectively, and treatment patterns were described across multiple lines of therapy for patients with ovarian cancer (OC). In total, 741 patients from Argentina and 2529 patients from Brazil were identified. Across both countries, around 50% of patients with OC did not receive antineoplastic agents postdiagnosis. Of the 355 patients from Argentina and 1441 patients from Brazil who received 1L therapy, the most commonly received treatment was platinum-based chemotherapy. Use of platinum-based chemotherapy declined from the 1L to the 4L in Argentina (1L: n = 311, 87.6%; 4L: n = 29, 37.7%) and Brazil (1L: n = 1142, 79.3%; 4L: n = 40, 33.3%). Median time to next treatment between a line of any antineoplastic agent and the next line of any antineoplastic agent was longest between the 1L and 2L settings, with a median of 5.3 months (interquartile range [IQR]: 10.7 months) and 3.0 months (IQR: 6.8 months) in Argentina and Brazil, respectively. Median progression-free survival was 6.0 months (IQR: 11.3) in patients from Argentina and 3.6 months (IQR: 9.6) in patients from Brazil. Median duration of treatment was the longest in 1L therapy across both countries (Argentina: 4.4 [IQR: 3.3] months; Brazil: 3.5 [IQR: 3.5] months) and became shorter across successive lines of therapies. These findings highlight the unmet need for effective therapies to optimize outcomes in patients in Argentina and Brazil with ovarian cancer, particularly those with advanced disease. Introduction: Statistical shape analysis (SSA) with clustering is often used to objectively define and categorise anatomical shape variations. However, studies until now have often focused on simplified anatomical reconstructions, despite the complexity of studied anatomies. This work aims to provide insights on the anatomical detail preservation required for SSA of highly diverse and complex anatomies, with particular focus on the left atrial appendage (LAA). This anatomical region is clinically relevant as the location of almost all left atrial thrombi forming during atrial fibrillation (AF). Moreover, its highly patient-specific complex architecture makes its clinical classification especially subjective. Methods: Preliminary LAA meshes were automatically detected after robust image selection and wider left atrial segmentation. Following registration, four additional LAA mesh datasets were created as reductions of the preliminary dataset, with surface reconstruction based on reduced sample point densities. Utilising SSA model parameters determined to optimally represent the preliminary dataset, SSA model performance for the four simplified datasets was calculated. A representative simplified dataset was selected, and clustering analysis and performance were evaluated (compared to clinical labels) between the original trabeculated LAA anatomy and the representative simplification. Results: As expected, simplified anatomies have better SSA evaluation scores (compactness, specificity and generalisation), corresponding to simpler LAA shape representation. However, oversimplification of shapes may noticeably affect 3D model output due to differences in geometric correspondence. Furthermore, even minor simplification may affect LAA shape clustering, where the adjusted mutual information (AMI) score of the clustered trabeculated dataset was 0.67, in comparison to 0.12 for the simplified dataset. Discussion: This study suggests that greater anatomical preservation for complex and diverse LAA morphologies, currently neglected, may be more useful for shape categorisation via clustering analyses. Transition metal sulfides, particularly heterostructures, represent a promising class of electrocatalysts for two electron oxygen reduction (2e− ORR), however, understanding the dynamic structural evolution of these catalysts during alkaline ORR remains relatively unexplored. Herein, NiS2/In2.77S4 heterostructure was synthesized as a precatalyst and through a series of comprehensive ex situ and in situ characterizations, including X‐ray absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, transient photo‐induced voltage measurements, electron energy loss spectroscopy, and spherical aberration‐corrected electron microscopy, it was revealed that nickel/indium (oxy)hydroxides (NiOOH/In(OH)3) could be evolved from the initial NiS2/In2.77S4 via both electrochemical and chemical‐driven methods. The electrochemical‐driven phase featured abundant bridging oxygen‐deficient [NiO6]‐[InO6] units at the interfaces of NiOOH/In(OH)3, facilitating a synergistic effect between active Ni and In sites, thus enabling an enhanced alkaline 2e− ORR capability than that of chemical‐driven process. Remarkably, electrochemically induced NiOOH/In(OH)3 exhibited exceptional performance, achieving H2O2 selectivity of >90 % across the wide potential window (up to 0.4 V) with a peak selectivity of >99 %. Notably, within the three‐electrode flow cell, a current density of 200 mA cm−2 was sustained over 20 h, together with an impressive Faradaic efficiency of ~90 % during the whole cycle process. Herein, NiS2/In2.77S4 heterostructure was synthesized as a precatalyst and through a series of comprehensive ex situ and in situ characterizations, including X‐ray absorption spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, transient photo‐induced voltage measurements, electron energy loss spectroscopy, and spherical aberration‐corrected electron microscopy, it was revealed that nickel/indium (oxy)hydroxides (NiOOH/In(OH)3) could be evolved from the initial NiS2/In2.77S4 via both electrochemical and chemical‐driven methods. The electrochemical‐driven phase featured abundant bridging oxygen‐deficient [NiO6]‐[InO6] units at the interfaces of NiOOH/In(OH)3, facilitating a synergistic effect between active Ni and In sites, thus enabling an enhanced alkaline 2e− ORR capability than that of chemical‐driven process. Remarkably, electrochemically induced NiOOH/In(OH)3 exhibited exceptional performance, achieving H2O2 selectivity of >90 % across the wide potential window (up to 0.4 V) with a peak selectivity of >99 %. Notably, within the three‐electrode flow cell, a current density of 200 mA cm−2 was sustained over 20 h, together with an impressive Faradaic efficiency of ~90 % during the whole cycle process. Understanding the effects of microorganisms on coffee fermentation is crucial to ensure sensory quality and food security. The analysis of the dynamics of the microbial community during fermentation can contribute to a better understanding of the beneficial and harmful effects of microorganisms and help select starter cultures to improve coffee quality. Furthermore, the anaerobic environment produced by carbonic maceration of the coffee fruits inhibits aerobic respiratory processes and stimulates fermentative metabolism, modulating the microbial community during coffee fermentation. This study evaluated the effects of carbonic maceration in the fungal community dynamics during the fermentation of Coffea arabica fruits at 18, 28, and 38 °C for 24, 48, 72, 96, and 120 h. Fungal diversity was accompanied by high-throughput sequencing (NGS) of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) region. During the coffee fermentation, the fungal community changed over time, with the most significant changes occurring at 18 and 28 °C after 72 h. However, at 38 °C, there were greater variations in fungal composition and fungal diversity was highest after 120 h. The yeast Pichia cephalocereana was predominant in the fermentations. These results indicated that temperature and fermentation conditions influence the fungal community during coffee fermentation. Lower temperatures might favor a more stable microbial environment, while higher temperatures lead to more intense changes. Industrial effluents, especially those containing dyes, have become the main cause of contamination of water resources. In this context, Brazilian bentonite/MgO composites, with excellent adsorptive properties, were prepared and investigated for their effectiveness in removing cationic and anionic dyes from aqueous solutions. The new adsorbents were obtained using Brazilian bentonites and MgO using the mechanochemical method followed by heat treatment (at 700 °C for 4 h). Different characterization techniques were used for the chemical, mineralogical, thermal, surface, and morphological analysis of the raw clays and the composites. The experimental adsorption isotherms were quantified under different conditions of initial concentration, contact time, pH, adsorbent dosage, and temperature variation to interpret the adsorption mechanism of the crystal violet (CV) and Congo red (CR) dyes. The modeling results were obtained from the empirical Sips equation and Pseudo Second Order (PSO) kinetics, indicating that the adsorption of molecules is a heterogeneous phenomenon that occurs in a monolayer on the surface (ns > 1), with the adsorption rate determined by chemisorption. The composites showed the best removal efficiency performance compared to the raw bentonites, with an increase of 12% for the CV dye and 46% for the CR dye. In addition, the qmax values obtained were 423.02 mg/g and 479.86 mg/g (AM01). This research underscores the potential of Brazilian bentonite/MgO composites as a promising solution for the removal of cationic and anionic dyes from water, offering hope for future applications in the field of environmental engineering and materials science. The fast‐growing 3D printing industry is improving its hardware at an accelerated pace. This includes higher‐resolution printing combined with a wider range of photosensitive resins. The parallel development of rapid tooling (RT) for injection molding enables upscaling 3D‐printed designs. Within microfluidics, where prototyping and scalability are key, the development of 3D‐printed RT for injection molding can prove a competitive alternative to more traditional tooling methods. Herein, the dominating parameters impacting 3D‐printed RT for injection molding are investigated, enabling the delivery of durable, high‐resolution, and optically transparent microfluidics. It is found that reducing the sidewall waviness to 1.9 ± 0.4 μm and the interlocking angle to 1.9 ± 0.8° enhances the mold release success rate to 100 ± 0.0%. The surface roughness is reduced from 1.1 ± 0.1 μm to 0.2 ± 0.0 μm by increasing layer exposure during printing. In turn, this improves the optical transparency of molded replicas to >228 lp mm−1 line resolution and increased image contrast and amplitude. Ultimately, the established procedure proves capable of running a small‐scale production (≈500 parts) of a droplet generator with 50 μm channels, with a lead production time of under 3 h from computer‐aided design to a functional device. We report 14 cases of immune effector cell (IEC)-associated enterocolitis following chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy in multiple myeloma, with a 1.2% incidence overall (0.2% for idecabtagene vicleucel and 2.2% for ciltacabtagene autoleucel). Patients developed acute-onset symptoms (typically non-bloody Grade 3+ diarrhea) with negative infectious workup beginning a median of 92.5 days (range: 22–210 days) after CAR-T therapy and a median of 85 days after cytokine release syndrome resolution. Gut biopsies uniformly demonstrated inflammation, including intra-epithelial lymphocytosis and villous blunting. In one case where CAR-specific immunofluorescence stains were available, CAR T-cell presence was confirmed within the lamina propria. Systemic corticosteroids were initiated in 10 patients (71%) a median of 25.5 days following symptom onset, with symptom improvement in 40%. Subsequent infliximab or vedolizumab led to improvement in 50% and 33% of corticosteroid-refractory patients, respectively. Five patients (36%) have died from bowel perforation or treatment-emergent sepsis. In conclusion, IEC-associated enterocolitis is a distinct but rare complication of CAR-T therapy typically beginning 1–3 months after infusion. Thorough diagnostic workup is essential, including evaluation for potential T-cell malignancies. The early use of infliximab or vedolizumab may potentially hasten symptom resolution and lower reliance on high-dose corticosteroids during the post-CAR-T period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In vitro tissue culture can be an alternative method for endangered species propagation, biodiversity conservation and secondary metabolite studies. Paratecoma peroba (Record) Kuhlm. (Bignoniaceae) is an endemic and endangered Brazilian species. This work aimed to establish in vitro morphogenesis and callus induction and to perform a phytochemical analysis of P. peroba callus extract. Higher seed germination (43%) was obtained in Wood Plant Medium culture without activated charcoal (AC). Combination of 5 µM benzyladenine + 10 µM gibberellic acid, without AC, resulted in a higher number of shoots (2 shoots/explant). A callus culture was stabilised from zygotic embryos using 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid. A callus methanolic extract was used for phytochemical analysis. The isolated substance was identified as tiliroside (kaempferol 3-O-β-D-(6"-O-E-p-coumaroyl)-glucopyranoside) by NMR and quantified in callus and leaf extracts by HPLC. This study analysed the phytochemical profile of Acmella oleracea extract and the molecular interactions of its main compounds with TRPV1 and CB2, target receptors in the Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) pathogenesis. The phytochemical profile of A. oleracea's floral buds extract treated with activated charcoal (TCEE) was analysed by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) coupled to Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS). The quantification of spilanthol was analysed by HPLC coupled to a Diode-Array Detector (HPLC-DAD). The phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of nine alkylamides and phenolic compounds. The TCEE showed a significant increase in spilanthol content compared to the crude extract (CEE), going from 28.33 mg/g to 117.96 mg/g. The molecular docking indicated a behaviour of the alkylamides as partial TRPV1 agonists and CB2 agonists and, for the first time, indicates the action of these compounds in the symptomatic management of BMS. As-built additively manufactured components for heat exchanger applications, suffer from high surface roughness. In this study, a novel ultrasonic-assisted electropolishing setup is designed and tested to reduce the internal surface roughness of a Laser Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) additively manufactured copper (GRCop-42) heat exchanger component. In the electropolishing setup, the surface of the as-built heat exchanger is used as the anode while a bulk copper rod is used as the cathode. An electropolishing fluid consisting of CuCl2, HCl, and SiC abrasive particles was used as electrolyte media, along with ultrasonication. The effect of chemical constituents, ultrasonic duration, and abrasive particles on surface roughness reduction was studied. It was observed that the ultrasonic agitation condition assisted with the abrasive particles was beneficial to reduce the surface roughness of the heat exchanger sample (over 50%) through acoustic streaming and scrubbing effect. An addition of 1% bio-based trihexyltetradecyl phosphonium saccharinate ionic liquid improved the corrosion properties for the copper surface. Overall, to reduce the roughness of L-PBF additively manufactured samples of complicated shapes with internal features, this process could be a viable technique, where mechanical polishing is not possible and internal surfaces are not accessible.
