MYC is a pleiotropic transcription factor involved in multiple cellular processes. While its mechanism of action and targets are not completely elucidated, it has a fundamental role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, metabolism, ribogenesis, and bone and vascular development. Over 4 decades of research and some 10,000 publications linking it to tumorigenesis (by searching PubMed for "MYC oncogene") have led to MYC becoming a most-wanted target for the treatment of cancer, where many of MYC's physiological functions become co-opted for tumour initiation and maintenance. In this context, an abundance of reviews describes strategies for potentially targeting MYC in the oncology field. However, its multiple roles in different aspects of cellular biology suggest that it may also play a role in many additional diseases, and other publications are indeed linking MYC to pathologies beyond cancer. Here, we review these physiological functions and the current literature linking MYC to non-oncological diseases. The intense efforts towards developing MYC inhibitors as a cancer therapy will potentially have huge implications for the treatment of other diseases. In addition, with a complementary approach, we discuss some diseases and conditions where MYC appears to play a protective role and hence its increased expression or activation could be therapeutic. Blunt breast trauma occurs in 2% of blunt chest injuries. This study aimed to evaluate the evidence on breast reconstruction after blunt trauma associated with the use of a seat belt. Also, we describe the first case of breast reconstruction using the Ribeiro technique. In November 2022, a systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Google Scholar databases was conducted. The literature was screened independently by two reviewers, and the data was extracted. Our search terms included breast, mammoplasty, blunt injury, and seat belts. In addition, we present the case of a woman with a left breast deformity and her reconstruction using the inferior Ribeiro flap technique. Six articles were included. All included studies were published between 2010 and 2021. The studies recruited seven patients. According to the Teo and Song classification, seven class 2b cases were reported. In five cases a breast reduction was performed in the deformed breast with different types of pedicles (three superomedial flaps, one lower flap, one superior flap). Only one case presented complications. The case here presented was a type 2b breast deformity in which the lower Ribeiro pedicle was used successfully without complications during follow-up. Until now there has been no consensus on reconstructive treatment due to the rarity of this entity. However, we must consider surgical treatment individually for each patient. We believe that the Ribeiro technique is a feasible and safe alternative in the treatment of posttraumatic breast deformities, offering very good long-term results. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Through developmental plasticity, an individual organism integrates influences from its immediate environment with those due to the environment of its parents. While both effects on phenotypes are well documented, their relative impact has been little studied in natural systems, especially at the level of gene expression. We examined this issue in four genotypes of the annual plant Persicaria maculosa by varying two key resources—light and soil moisture—in both generations. Transcriptomic analyses showed that the relative effects of parent and offspring environment on gene expression (i.e. the number of differentially expressed transcripts, DETs) varied both for the two types of resource stress and among genotypes. For light, immediate environment induced more DETs than parental environment for all genotypes, although the precise proportion of parental versus immediate DETs varied among genotypes. By contrast, the relative effect of soil moisture varied dramatically among genotypes, from 8-fold more DETs due to parental than immediate conditions to 10-fold fewer. These findings provide evidence at the transcriptomic level that the relative impacts of parental and immediate environment on the developing organism may depend on the environmental factor and vary strongly among genotypes, providing potential for the interplay of these developmental influences to evolve. Relevant, historically, it is the role of the Diocese of Fermo (Italy) in the Vatican organization dedicated to vast ecclesiastical patrimony on the territory of the Marche region. In this context, for the peculiarity of its identity and its property, the object of this study is the "Chiesa della Pietà". This research starts with the photogrammetric survey to document and analyse the existing condition of the church. The data acquisition provides many scans following a network schema and the photographic survey allows to create orthoimages to make more realistic the 3D representation. Once acquired the geometric and material survey, a series of investigations have been carried out to assess the surface degradation and the material decay of the external façades and internal environments. Furthermore, some structural problems have been occurred, investigating and verifying the presence of advanced stages of deterioration of the wooden structures and the restoration of these structural elements must be mandatory. To take under control the decay and to propose a restoration step, we have arranged the 3D model in HBIM software with different LOD, according to the BIM Forum Level of Development Specification (2016), suitable to develop a well-structured information system. Before the 3D modelling phase, a decomposition of the building is useful to implement a semantic classification of the architectural elements. Basing on a hierarchy of classes and subclasses, the dedicated database organizes the building components assigning an ID-code to the features, putting in evidence materials decay by a thematic mapping. Built in the years between 1915 and 1918, and located on the west bank of the "Varano" Lake, a bay running along the village of "Cagnano Varano", the "Ivo Monti" seaplane base was erected on a pre-existing medieval settlement which belonged to the Benedictine Monks from the town of "San Nicola Imbuti". During WWI, this seaplane base was turned, from a simple water airport, into a strategic military base for floatplanes. As a matter of fact, the large lagoon could be used as landing spot for the planes sent off to patrol the dalmatic coast, one of the historical regions of Croatia, then controlled by the Austrians. After WWI, after the seaplane became an outdated technology, the "Ivo Monti" base was progressively dismantled and then totally abandoned at the beginning of the 1950s. In 2014, considering the historical relevance of this site and the unmistakable architectural value of its elements, a research framework agreement was signed between the "DICEA" Department of Marche Polytechnic University and the city council of the town hosting the site, aimed at the development of shared scientific research projects revolving around the study, the valorisation, and the restoration of the military complex in question, which had been in a complete state of decay and neglect for too long. The still ongoing research project mentioned presents two main missions: the first is the historical reconstruction, the geometric mapping, and the robustness analysis of the ruins, by studying and faithfully representing the state of deterioration of the building materials and of the facilities; the second is the identification and the testing of potential architectural solutions for the conversion and the reuse of the site and of its facilities. The development of alternative deposition techniques for conjugated polymeric compounds is an important step towards the fabrication of low cost multi-layered organic light emitting diodes suitable for display or lighting applications. In this work we show a white light-emitting polymeric hetero-structured diode consisting of three stacked blue, red and green light emitting polymers. In order to circumvent the issue of selecting orthogonal solvents in solution-deposition approaches, we combine spin-coating with a matrix-assisted pulsed laser evaporation technique, resulting in the realization of a polymeric multi-layered stack. By controlling the carriers and the energy transfer across the three light emitting layer interfaces, as well as the interplay between the deposition parameters, a pure white colour emission with Commission Internationale de l'Éclairage coordinates of (X = 0.327, Y = 0.374) and a Color Rendering Index of 70 has been achieved. A set of prediction equations to estimate the nitrogen-corrected apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) of individual ingredients and diets used in the poultry feed industry was evaluated. The AMEn values of three energy ingredients (maize, sorghum and defatted maize germ meal), four protein ingredients (soybean meal, maize gluten meal 60% crude protein, integral micronized soy and roasted whole soybean) and four diets (three containing four feedstuffs, complex diets, and one containing only corn-soybean meal, basal diet) were determined using a metabolism assay with male broilers from 1 to 7, 8 to 21, 22 to 35, and 36 to 42 days old. These values were compared to the AMEn values presented in the tables of energy composition or estimated by equation predictions based on chemical composition data of feedstuffs. In general, the equation predictions more precisely estimated the AMEn of feedstuffs when compared to the tables of energy composition. The equation AMEn (dry matter [DM] basis) = 4,164.187+51.006 ether extract (% in DM basis)-197.663 ash-35.689 crude fiber (% in DM basis)-20.593 neutral detergent fiber (% in DM basis) (R2 = 0.75) was the most applicable for the prediction of the energy values of feedstuffs and diets used in the poultry feed industry. Background: Oncogene-induced senescence (OIS) is a tumor suppressor mechanism. However, senescent cells remain viable and display a distinct secretome (also known as senescence-associated secretory phenotype [SASP] or senescence messaging secretome, [SMS]) that, paradoxically, includes protumorigenic factors. OIS can be triggered by ectopic overexpression of HER2, a receptor tyrosine kinase and the driving oncogene in a subtype of human breast cancer. However, cellular senescence has not been characterized in HER2-positive tumors. Methods: Using an approach based on their inability to proliferate, we isolated naturally occurring senescent cells from a variety of tumor models including HER2-positive cells, transgenic mice (n = 3), and patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) (n = 6 mice per group from one PDX derived from one patient). Using different biochemical and cell biological techniques, we characterized the secretome of these senescent cells. All statistical tests were two-sided. Results: We found that senescent cells arise constantly in different models of advanced breast cancers overexpressing HER2 and constitute approximately 5% of tumor cells. In these models, IL-6 and other cytokines were expressed mainly, if not exclusively, by the naturally occurring senescent cells (95.1% and 45.0% of HCC1954 cells and cells from a HER2-positive PDX expressing a senescent marker expressed IL-6, respectively). Furthermore, inhibition of IL-6 impaired the growth of the HER2-positive PDX (mean tumor volume at day 101, control vs anti--huIL-6 treated, 332.2 mm³ [95% confidence interval {CI} = 216.6 to 449.8] vs 114.4 mm³ [95% CI = 12.79 to 216.0], P = .005). A committee of neural networks is the aggregation of two or more neural networks for making overall predictions that are supposedly more accurate than those obtained by the individual networks. The objective of this paper was to assign some uncertainty over the predictions of neural networks, using a network committee to estimate the nitrogen-corrected metabolizable energy (AMEn) values of the energetic and protein concentrate feedstuffs for broilers. The dataset used to implement each expert network contains 568 experimental results. Another dataset with 48 bioassay results was used as test data. From several implemented multilayer perceptrons, the networks that presented the best generalization performance were selected to constitute the committee. The percentage of correct predictions was used as the criterion to compare committees that contained different numbers of networks. The highest probability density intervals were obtained for each feedstuff in the test data in this comparison. The estimator that ensured more accurate predictions was selected. The highest accuracy for predicting the AMEn values of concentrate feedstuffs for broilers was achieved by a committee with 1,000 networks with the use of the mode of the empirical distribution obtained from 1,000 estimated values of the AMEn. The accuracy of the models was evaluated based on their values of error measures between the observed and predicted values, in which the mode of the empirical distribution presented lower values of mean squared error (MSE = 45,285.43), mean absolute deviation (MAD = 177.66) and mean absolute percentage error (MAPE = 5.97 %) compared to the mean and the median. Several researchers have developed prediction equations to estimate the metabolisable energy (ME) of energetic and protein concentrate feedstuffs used in diets for broilers. The ME is estimated by considering CP, ether extract, ash and fibre contents. However, the results obtained using traditional regression analysis methods have been inconsistent and new techniques can be used to obtain better estimate of the feedstuffs’ energy value. The objective of this paper was to implement a multilayer perceptron network to estimate the nitrogen-corrected metabolisable energy (AMEn) values of the energetic and protein concentrate feeds, generally used by the poultry feed industry. The concentrate feeds were from plant origin. The dataset contains 568 experimental results, all from Brazil. This dataset was separated into two parts: one part with 454 data, which was used to train, and the other one with 114 data, which was used to evaluate the accuracy of each implemented network. The accuracy of the models was evaluated on the basis of their values of mean squared error, R2, mean absolute deviation, mean absolute percentage error and bias. The 7-5-3-1 model presented the highest accuracy of prediction. It was developed an Excel® AMEn calculator by using the best model, which provides a rapid and efficient way to predict the AMEn values of concentrate feedstuffs for broilers. The Dlx and Msx homeodomain transcription factors play important roles in the control of limb development. The combined disruption of Msx1 and Msx2, as well as that of D lx5 and Dlx6, lead to limb patterning defects with anomalies in digit number and shape. Msx1;Msx2 double mutants are characterized by the loss of derivatives of the anterior limb mesoderm which is not observed in either of the simple mutants. Dlx5;Dlx6 double mutants exhibit hindlimb ectrodactyly. While the morphogenetic action of Msx genes seems to involve the BMP molecules, the mode of action of Dlx genes still remains elusive. Here, examining the limb phenotypes of combined Dlx and Msx mutants we reveal a new Dlx-Msx regulatory loop directly involving BMPs. In Msx1;Dlx5;Dlx6 triple mutant mice (TKO), beside the expected ectrodactyly, we also observe the hallmark morphological anomalies of Msx1;Msx2 double mutants suggesting an epistatic role of Dlx5 and Dlx6 over Msx2. In Msx2;Dlx5;Dlx6 TKO mice we only observe an aggravation of the ectrodactyly defect without changes in the number of the individual components of the limb. Using a combination of qPCR, ChIP and bioinformatic analyses, we identify two Dlx/Msx regulatory pathways: 1) in the anterior limb mesoderm a non-cell autonomous Msx-Dlx regulatory loop involves BMP molecules through the AER and 2) in AER cells and, at later stages, in the limb mesoderm the regulation of Msx2 by Dlx5 and Dlx6 occurs also cell autonomously. These data bring new elements to decipher the complex AER-mesoderm dialogue that takes place during limb development and provide clues to understanding the etiology of congenital limb malformations. So this study aimed to compare microbial and inflammatory patterns in the gingival crevicular fluid of generalized aggressive and chronic periodontitis patients. Material and Methods:  Forty aggressive and 28 chronic periodontitis patients were selected. Biofilm and gingival crevicular fluid were collected from a deep pocket (periodontal probing depth >7 mm) and a moderate pocket (periodontal probing depth = 5 mm) of each patient, and microbiological and immunoenzymatic assays were performed. Real-time PCR was used to determine quantities of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was employed to determine gingival crevicular fluid levels of interleukin-1β, interferon-γ, prostaglandin E2 and interleukin-10. In addition, immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels against A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis lipopolysaccharide were also determined by ELISA. Analysis of variance/Tukey test, Mann–Whitney U-test and the Pearson correlation test were used to determine differences and correlations between variables analysed (α = 5%). Results:  Patients suffering from generalized aggressive periodontitis had their mouth colonized by higher amounts of A. actinomycetemcomitans and P. gingivalis than chronic periodontitis patients. Conversely, the gingival crevicular fluid levels of IgG against both pathogens were statistically inferior in aggressive periodontitis patients ( p < 0.05). With regard to gingival crevicular fluid levels of cytokines, aggressive periodontitis patients presented reduced levels of interleukin-10 ( p < 0.05). Conclusion:  In comparison to chronic periodontitis, generalized aggressive periodontitis patients have an imbalance in the host response, with reduced levels of interleukin-10 and IgG, and increased periodontal pathogens. A central role for mitochondrial dysfunction has been proposed in the pathogenesis of DS (Down's syndrome), a multifactorial disorder caused by trisomy of human chromosome 21. To explore whether and how abnormalities in mitochondrial energy metabolism are involved in DS pathogenesis, we investigated the catalytic properties, gene expression and protein levels of certain proteins involved in mitochondrial ATP synthesis, such as F1F0-ATPase, ANT (adenine nucleotide translocator) and AK (adenylate kinase), in DS-HSF (human skin fibroblasts with trisomic karyotype), comparing them with euploid fibroblasts. In DS-HSF, we found a strong impairment of mitochondrial ATP synthesis due to a reduction in the catalytic efficiency of each of the investigated proteins. This impairment occurred in spite of unchanged gene expression and an increase in ANT and AK protein content, whereas the amount of ATPase subunits was selectively reduced. Interestingly, exposure of DS-HSF to dibutyryl-cAMP, a permanent derivative of cAMP, stimulated ANT, AK and ATPase activities, whereas H89, a specific PKA (protein kinase A) inhibitor, suppressed this cAMPdependent activation, indicating an involvement of the cAMP/PKA-mediated signalling pathway in the ATPase, ANT and AK deficit. Consistently, DS-HSF showed decreased basal levels of cAMP and reduced PKA activity. Despite the impairment of mitochondrial energy apparatus, no changes in cellular energy status, but increased basal levels of L-lactate, were found in DS-HSF, which partially offset for the mitochondrial energy deficit by increasing glycolysis and mitochondrial mass.These results provide new insight into the molecular basis for mitochondrial dysfunction in DS and might provide a molecular explanation for some clinical features of the syndrome. OBJECTIVES AND METHODS: Splanchnic vein thrombosis (SVT), not associated with cancer or liver cirrhosis, is a rare event and scanty data are available on its natural history, long-term prognosis, and treatment. In this study 121 SVT patients consecutively seen from January 1998 to December 2005 were included and 95 of them were followed up for a median time of 41 months. Screening for thrombophilic factors was performed in 104 patients. New thrombotic or bleeding episodes were registered and anticoagulant therapy was performed according to preestablished criteria. RESULTS: SVT was an incidental finding in 34 (28.1%) patients; 34 (28.1%) presented with abdominal infarction; 39 (32.2%) had bowel ischemia or acute portal vein thrombosis; 14 (11.6%) had bleeding from portal hypertensive sources. Survival rates at 1, 3, and 7 yr were 95%, 93.3%, and 89.6%, respectively; 87.5% of deaths occurred at onset of SVT as complications of intestinal infarction. Patients with isolated portal vein thromboses had symptoms and intestinal infarction in 16/41 (39%) and 0/41 (0%) of the cases, respectively, whereas superior mesenteric vein thromboses, isolated or not, were associated with symptoms and intestinal infarction in 69/75 (92%) and 34/75 (45%), respectively. During the follow-up 14 (14.7%) suffered from 39 episodes of gastrointestinal bleeding with no deaths. A previous gastrointestinal bleed was associated with new hemorrhagic events during follow-up. New venous thrombotic episodes occurred in 10 of 95 patients (10.5%), of which 73% were in the splanchnic area. Seven out of these 10 patients had a chronic myeloproliferative disease (MPD) and none was on anticoagulation. CONCLUSIONS: Anticoagulant therapy was effective to obtain recanalization of acute SVT in 45.4% of patients and preserved patients from recurrent thrombosis when given lifelong. Accumulating evidence indicates that a dynamic cross-talk between tumors and the immune system can regulate tumor growth and metastasis. Increased understanding of the biochemical nature of tumor antigens and the molecular mechanisms responsible for innate and adaptive immune cell activation has revolutionized the fields of tumor immunology and immunotherapy. Both the protective effects of the immune system against tumor cells (immunosurveillance) and the evasion of tumor cells from immune attack (tumor-immune escape) have led to the concept of cancer immunoediting, a proposal which infers that a bidirectional interaction between tumor and inflammatory/regulatory cells is ultimately responsible for orchestrating the immunosuppressive network at the tumor site. In this context, a major challenge is the potentiation or redirection of tumor antigen-specific immune responses. The success in reaching this goal is highly dependent on an improved understanding of the interactions and mechanisms operating during the different phases of the cancer immunoediting process. In this review, we discuss the multiple defense and counterattack strategies that tumors have devised in order to evade immune attack and to thwart the effectiveness of several immunotherapeutic approaches. In recent years, one of the most important insights into tumor immunity was provided by the identification of negative regulatory pathways and immune escape strategies that greatly influence the magnitude of antitumor responses. Galectin-1 (Gal-1), a member of a family of highly conserved β-galactoside-binding proteins, has been recently shown to contribute to tumor cell evasion of immune responses by modulating survival and differentiation of effector T cells. However, there is still scarce information about the regulation of Gal-1 expression and function in vivo. Here we show that administration of a single low-dose cyclophosphamide (Cy), which is capable of restraining metastasis in the rat lymphoma model L-TACB, can also influence Gal-1 expression in primary tumor, metastasis, and spleen cells and modulate the effects of this protein on T cell survival. A time-course study revealed a positive correlation between Gal-1 expression and tumor volume in primary tumor cells. Conversely, Gal-1 expression was significantly reduced in spleen cells and lymph node metastasis throughout the period studied. Interestingly, cyclophosphamide treatment was capable of restoring the basal levels of Gal-1 expression in primary tumors and spleens. In addition, this antimetastatic agent rendered spleen T cells from tumor-bearing animals resistant to Gal-1-induced cell death. Our results suggest that, in addition to other well-known functions of cyclophosphamide, this immunomodulatory agent may also modulate Gal-1 expression and function during tumor growth and metastasis with critical implications for tumor-immune escape and immunotherapy. The schooling of Gypsy children has become a major challenge for the Spanish educational system. After centuries of, first, exclusion and then segregation in separate schools, an egalitarian policy and a sudden enforcement of compulsory schooling have resulted in difficulties and conflicts in numerous Spanish schools. The specificity of the Gypsy way of life, paradoxically, brings to light the arbitrariness of the school system, i.e. its dependence on a particular culture and way of life marked by nation-state, market economy, wage labour, sedentariness, nuclear family, rule of formal law, etc. After the initial stages of exclusion and segregation, educational policy towards Gypsies is now going through a reinterpretation of the idea of equality, departing from formal egalitarianism to arrive at some form of multiculturalism. IL-10 displays modulatory properties on the synthesis of platelet-activating factor (PAF), a potent inflammatory mediator of vascular injury. Despite the fact that IL-10 is considered to be an anti-inflammatory cytokine, IL-10 levels correlate with disease activity in SLE. Moreover, in SLE IL-10 is unable to exert its immunosuppressive and anti-inflammatory effects. We have investigated the ability of IL-10 to stimulate PAF production from monocytes of SLE patients. Spontaneous and IL-10-stimulated PAF production by peripheral blood monocytes was measured in active (n = 13) and inactive (n = 14) SLE patients and in 15 normal control subjects. We observed that monocytes derived from patients with active SLE, but not from controls or inactive SLE, spontaneously produced significant amounts of PAF. Moreover, IL-10 enhanced the synthesis of PAF from monocytes of active SLE patients only. IL-10-induced PAF production correlated with the severity of the disease and with the extent of proteinuria. These results indicate that IL-10 only stimulates the synthesis of PAF from monocytes of SLE patients when immunologically active, suggesting that IL-10 may possess a paradoxical proinflammatory effect in SLE by promoting the production of PAF, a secondary mediator of inflammation. We observed that human monocytes (MO) and polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) produce platelet-activating factor (PAF) in a pattern characterized by an early and a delayed peak of synthesis. The early peak of PAF synthesis was due to a direct stimulation of these cells through mCD14 receptor as it was inhibited by anti-CD14 monoclonal antibody. The delayed and sustained peak of PAF synthesis was dependent on protein synthesis and cytokine production as shown by the inhibitory effect of cycloheximide on both MO and PMN, and of anti-tumour necrosis factor-α (anti-TNF-α) and of anti-interleukin-8 (anti-IL-8) neutralizing antibodies on MO and PMN respectively. IL-10 completely prevented this second, cytokine-dependent peak of PAF synthesis. In contrast, IL-10 markedly enhanced the first peak of PAF synthesis both in MO and PMN. Moreover, IL-10 was shown to modulate the production of superoxide anions (O2-) on both MO and PMN. As suggested by previous studies, IL-10 inhibited the delayed production of OIL In the present study, we observed that IL-10 directly stimulated an early production of O2-. In addition, IL-10 enhanced the synthesis of O2- by MO and PMN challenged with LPS. The IL-10-induced O2- production was dependent, at least in part, from its effect on PAF synthesis, as it was inhibited by the PAF receptor antagonist WEB 2170. These results suggest that IL-10 may upregulate the early synthesis of PAF and O2- triggered by direct LPS stimulation, whereas it may downregulate the delayed production of these mediators. The intravenous infusion of platelet activating factor (PAF) (0.8 μg/kg b.w.) induced ECG and hemodynamic alterations characterized by the following sequential three phases. Phase I (15 sec) consisted of a transient bradycardia with reduction in left ventricular pressure (LVPs), mean arterial pressure (MAP) and cardiac output (CO). Phase II developed within 30 sec and consisted of a rise in cardiac frequency, increase in LVPs, MAP and total peripheral resistances (TPR), which were associated with a decrease in CO. Finally, phase III, that occurred about 90 sec after PAF infusion, was characterized by marked ECG changes (ST segment depression and conduction arrhythmias), a decrease in LVPs and MAP, as well as a rise in TPR and in right atrial pressure (RAP). All these alterations were reversible within 30-60 min. Pretreatment with promethazine and cimetidine, as H and H histamine receptor antagonists, markedly prevented the development of phase II, namely the rise in cardiac frequency, LVPs, MAP and TPR, but did not significantly modify phase I and III. In contrast, pretreatment with indomethacin, an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, moderatively attenuated, but did not abolish, the three phases of cardiovascular changes induced by PAF infusion. Very low voltage organic light-emitting diodes using a fluorescent linear S,S-dioxide oligothiophene as emitting layer has been realized using a p-i-n structure. The device reaches a remarkable luminance of 10 000 cd/m2 at only 9 V, which is two orders of magnitude higher than the simple bilayer structure already reported for this active material. Due to the doping of the transport layers, a maximum power efficiency of 2.1 lm/W was reached against 0.2 lm/W of the corresponding undoped device. As a consequence of this higher power efficiency, the reduced self-heating of the p-i-n device structure, compared to the undoped devices, determines the best operating condition to check the intrinsic stability of the emitting layer. Aging measurements reveal indeed a very high stability, with extrapolated device lifetimes at about 108 and 2200 h at starting luminances of 100 and 3200 cd/m2, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We report a double emission layer structure, incorporating a double phosphorescent ldquoguest/host systemrdquo of tris (1-Phenylisoquinoline) iridium (III) (Ir(piq)3) 15wt% doped into two different host molecules, 4,4'-bis[N-(1-napthyl)-N-phenyl-amino] biphenyl (NPB) and bis-(2-methyl-8-quinolinolato)-4-(phenyl-phenolato) aluminum-(III) (BAlq). The proposed configuration reduces the efficiency rolloff, providing high stability at high operating luminance. A maximum current efficiency of 9.5 cd/A, at a driving voltage of 3 V, and a remarkably long device lifetime of more than 2500 h at a starting luminance of 6000 cd/m2 have been measured. Extremely low voltage white organic light-emitting devices (WOLEDs) with fluorescent emitters are realized exploiting p-i-n structure. White light is obtained by two complementary colors system, in which the yellow and the blue emitting components are based on 5,6,11, 12-tetraphenylnaphthacene (rubrene) and 4,4-bis-2, 2-diphenylvinyl-1, 1-spirobiphenyl (Spiro-DPVBi), respectively. The effects on the device performances of various electron blocking layers and hosts for rubrene are discussed. The best device shows a luminance of 1000 cd/m2 at bias of as low as 2.9 V, and 10 000 cd/m2 at 4.7 V with a maximum power efficiency of 8.7 lm/W. The Commission Internationale de 1’Eclairage chromaticity coordinates change from (0.36, 0.45) at 1000 cd/m2 to (0.33, 0.42) at 10 000 cd/m2 showing high color stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
