Partially Saturated Vertical Constructed Wetlands (PSV-CWs) are novel wastewater treatment systems that work through aerobic and anaerobic conditions that favor the removal of pollutants found in high concentrations, such as rivers contaminated with domestic wastewater and landfill leachate. The objective of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of PSV-CWs using monocultures and polycultures of Typha latifolia and Heliconia psittacorum to treat river waters contaminated with leachates from open dumps and domestic wastewater. Six experimental units of PSV-CWs were used; two were planted with Typha latifolia monoculture, two with Heliconia psittacorum monoculture and two with polycultures of both plants. The results indicated better organic matter and nitrogen removal efficiencies (p < 0.05) in systems with polycultures (TSS:95%, BOD5:83%, COD:89%, TN:82% and NH4+:99%). In general, the whole system showed high average removal efficiencies (TSS:93%, BOD5:79%, COD:85%, TN:79%, NH4+:98% and TP:85%). Regarding vegetation, both species developed better in units with monocultures, being Typha latifolia the one that reached a more remarkable development. However, both species showed high resistance to the contaminated environment. These results showed higher removals than those reported in the literature with conventional Free Flow Vertical Constructed Wetlands (FFV-CWs), so PSV-CWs could be a suitable option to treat this type of effluent. NOVELTY STATEMENT: The research addresses the contamination of water resources in developing countries by landfill leachate and domestic wastewater discharges. It proposes treatment through Partially Saturated Vertical Constructed Wetlands (PSV-CWs), which, despite the limited information available, have been shown to be effective in removing pollutants in effluents with high concentrations. In addition to evaluating PSV-CWs, the study examines the impact of different types of vegetation on pollutant removal efficiency, concluding that PSV-CWs are a promising and viable option for the treatment of these effluents. Purpose: To investigate the impact of surgical approach and post-operative prophylaxis on heterotopic ossification (HO) development after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Methods: A retrospective analysis of 312 patients who underwent THA between January 2009 and April 2016. Patients were categorized by surgical approach (direct lateral or posterolateral), prosthesis type, and post-operative prophylaxis (Etoricoxib 60 mg daily for two weeks). Two orthopaedic surgeons independently assessed radiographs at serial intervals, and HO was graded as per Brooker classification. Bivariate analysis and regression modelling were performed to assess the associations and confounding effects of different variables, Results: Bivariate analysis identified factors correlated with higher HO incidence: absence of prophylaxis, older age, longer symptom evolution, and lower pre-surgery physical activity. Regression modelling showed a correlation between the direct-lateral approach, post-operative prophylaxis, symptom evolution, and higher HO incidence. Conclusion: Patients with longer symptom evolution before surgery and without post-operative prophylaxis are at higher risk of developing HO. While the direct lateral approach showed higher HO rates, the difference was insignificant. A two-week prophylactic regimen of Etoricoxib 60 mg daily after THA effectively reduced HO formation. Tomato waste, characterized by high organic matter and moisture content, offers a promising substrate for anaerobic digestion, though rapid acidification can inhibit methanogenic activity. This study investigated the performance of a 10.25 L anaerobic fixed biofilm reactor for biogas production using liquid tomato waste, processed through grinding and filtration, at high organic loading rates, without external pH control or co-digestion. Four scouring pads were vertically installed as a fixed bed within a fiberglass structure. Reactor performance and buffering capacity were assessed over three stages with progressively increasing organic loading rates (3.2, 4.35, and 6.26 gCOD/L·d). Methane yields of 0.419 LCH4/gCOD and 0.563 LCH4/g VS were achieved during the kinetic study following stabilization. Biogas production rates reached 1586 mL/h, 1804 mL/h, and 4117 mL/h across the three stages, with methane contents of 69%, 65%, and 72.3%, respectively. Partial alkalinity fluctuated, starting above 1500 mg CaCO3/L in Stage 1, dropping below 500 mg CaCO3/L in Stage 2, and surpassing 3000 mg CaCO3/L in Stage 3. Despite periods of forced acidification, the system demonstrated significant resilience and high buffering capacity, maintaining stability through hydraulic retention time adjustments without the need for external pH regulation. The key stability indicators identified include partial alkalinity, effluent chemical oxygen demand, pH, and one-day cumulative biogas. This study highlights the effectiveness of anaerobic fixed biofilm reactors in treating tomato waste and similar fruit and vegetable residues for sustainable biogas production. Untreated domestic wastewater from rural areas poses significant risks to ecosystems and human health. Constructed wetlands (CWs) are a viable alternative for this wastewater treatment, enhancing nitrogen removal using substrates as carbon sources. This process is particularly beneficial for wastewater with low carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratios, making the treated water suitable for agricultural irrigation. In this study, a Horizontal Subsurface Flow CW (HSF-CW) was evaluated using Canna hybrids and a mixed substrate of gravel and endocarp from oil palm fruit (EOP) as a carbon source to leverage its abundance in the region. It was also determined that the effluent complies with the permissible limits set by Resolution 1207 of 2014 from the Colombian Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, which establishes environmental standards for wastewater treatment to ensure environmental protection and enable safe reuse in agricultural irrigation. The key parameters analyzed included organic contaminants, heavy metals, nutrients, and microbiological indicators. Removal efficiencies of up to 91%, 94%, 98%, 52%, 73%, 78%, and 75% were achieved for BOD, TSS, total phosphorus, nitrates, nitrites, ammonium, and total nitrogen, respectively, demonstrating the CW's strong performance in contaminant removal and meeting most standards for agricultural irrigation. Although the carbon source was not highly efficient, the overall system performance supports its viability for improving water quality and promoting sustainable agricultural practices in rural areas. The aim of this 2-year study was to evaluate the influence of bed depth (40 and 60 cm) on the development of tropical ornamental species (Alpinia purpurata, Heliconia latispatha and Strelitzia reginae) and on the removal of different contaminants such as chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrate (N-NO3), ammonium (N-NH4), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total suspended solids (TSS), total coliforms (TCs) and fecal coliforms (FCs), in horizontal subsurface flow constructed wetlands (HSSF-CWs) for municipal wastewater treatment. The results showed that the depth of 60 cm favored the removal of COD, with removal efficiencies of 94% for the three plant species. The depth of 40 cm was most effective for the removal of N-NH4 (80–90%). Regarding the removal of TN, the removals were similar for the different plants and depths (72–86%). The systems only achieved up to 60% removal of TCs and FCs. The depth of the CWs substrate and its saturation level influenced the development of ornamental vegetation, particularly flower production. For Heliconia latispatha, a bed depth level of 60 cm was more suitable, while for Alpinia purpurata 40 cm was better, and for Strelitzia reginae in both cases there was no flower production. Drift from herbicides in fields adjacent to non-target crops, together with waterlogging can be detrimental to lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.). The objective of the study was to determine physiological responses of lettuce plants to exposure to glyphosate and waterlogging. Lettuce plants were subjected to treatments of combinations of foliar applications of glyphosate (45 g a.e.·ha−1) and waterlogging, and a treatment with drainage condition. Herbicide in conjunction with waterlogging, and waterlogging alone, reduced accumulation of total dry matter and leaves, as was net photosynthesis related to stomatal closure, photosystem II damage, and loss of membrane stability. Application of low doses of glyphosate on waterlogged plants favored accumulation of dry mass in the root that may be related to increase in carbohydrates to produce energy under low oxygen availability, these results indicate possible hormesis in lettuce plants to glyphosate and could be useful to reduce waterlogging damage in lettuce plants. Plants encounter a myriad of microorganisms at the root-soil interface that can invade with detrimental or beneficial outcomes. Promoting a symbiotic relationship may interfere with the restriction responses to pathogens. In this study, we established a tripartite Medicago truncatula (Mt)-Sinorhizobium meliloti (Sm)-Fusarium oxysporum (Fo) interaction to study the effect of the interplay between symbiosis and defense on the symbiosis establishment and efficiency in a resistant (A17) and susceptible (TN1.11) genotype to Fo infection. Our results showed that Sm induced the expression of allene oxide cyclase 1 and 2 (MtAoc1) and (MtAoc2) at 6 and 24 h post infection (hpi) in A17 and at 24 hpi in TN1.11. This up-regulation of MtAoc1 and MtAoc2 was also observed when co-inoculating TN1.11 genotype with Fo and Sm. Moreover, in this later treatment the expression level of the gene of the common signaling pathway doesn't make infection 3 (DIM3) was reduced compared to Sm-inoculated plants. This reduction of DIM3 transcripts was concomitant to a decrease in nodule number (NN), nodule fresh weight, and nitrogen-fixing rate (NFR), and to an accumulation of spermine in nodules. This defectiveness in symbiosis parameters, in the co-inoculation treatment, was also observed in A17 genotype, along with an accumulation of phytohormones in leaves and polyamines in nodules. Our results suggest that in the tripartite interaction, the high expression of MtAoc and the decrease of DMI3 transcripts along with the accumulation of phytohormones and polyamines in leaves overlapped with symbiosis establishment and functioning and thus, reduced NN and NFR. Plant growth and development depend on sufficient nutrient availability in soils. Agricultural soils are generally nitrogen (N) deficient, and thus soils need to be supplemented with fertilizers. Ammonium (NH4+) is a major inorganic N source. However, at high concentrations, NH4+ becomes a stressor that inhibits plant growth. The cause of NH4+ stress or toxicity is multifactorial, but the interaction of NH4+ with other nutrients is among the main determinants of plants' sensitivity towards high NH4+ supply. In addition, NH4+ uptake and assimilation provoke the acidification of the cell external medium (apoplast/rhizosphere), which has a clear impact on nutrient availability. This review summarizes current knowledge, at both the physiological and the molecular level, of the interaction of NH4+ nutrition with essential mineral elements that are absorbed as cations, both macronutrients (K+, Ca2+, Mg2+) and micronutrients (Fe2+/3+, Mn2+, Cu+/2+, Zn2+, Ni2+). We hypothesize that considering these nutritional interactions, and soil pH, when formulating fertilizers may be key in order to boost the use of NH4+-based fertilizers, which have less environmental impact compared with nitrate-based ones. Alternative polymer-based filter media and ornamental plants in constructed wetlands (CWs) are a relatively unexplored field. These approaches have the potential to reduce construction costs and enhance the aesthetic appearance of CWs. This study evaluated for the first time the use of ornamental plants as monoculture and polyculture, as well as the incorporation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as a filter medium in a large-scale community HC (divided into 12 cells) for the treatment of municipal wastewater. Duplicate cells were planted with monocultures of Canna hybrids, Spathiphyllum blandum, Anturium spp., and Thypa spp., while two units had mixed cultures of these plants and two control units remained without vegetation. Systems with vegetation achieved average removal efficiencies of 86.95, 81.3, 64.6, 85.2, and 52% for COD, BOD5, TSS, TP, and TN, respectively. Meanwhile, in systems without vegetation, the removal efficiencies for these pollutants were 81.33, 72.86, 43.68, 3.93, and 30.70%, respectively, indicating significant differences between vegetated and non-vegetated systems (p < 0.05). The PET-based filter medium showed effective pollutant removal, with values comparable to or surpassing those reported in existing literature. All ornamental species exhibited good development with new offspring and flower production both in monoculture and in polyculture. Background: The integrity of the acetabular labrum is critical in providing normal function and minimizing hip degeneration and is considered key for success in today's hip preservation algorithm. Many advances have been made in labral repair and reconstruction to restore the suction seal. Purpose/Hypothesis: To compare the biomechanical effects of segmental labral reconstruction between the synthetic polyurethane scaffold (PS) and fascia lata autograft (FLA). Our hypothesis was that reconstruction with a macroporous polyurethane implant and autograft reconstruction of fascia lata would normalize hip joint kinetics and restore the suction seal. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: Ten cadaveric hips from 5 fresh-frozen pelvises underwent biomechanical testing with a dynamic intra-articular pressure measurement system under 3 conditions: (1) intact labrum, (2) reconstruction with PS after a 3-cm segmental labrectomy, then (3) reconstruction with FLA. Contact area, contact pressure, and peak force were evaluated in 4 positions: 90º of flexion in neutral, 90º of flexion plus internal rotation, 90º of flexion plus external rotation, and 20º of extension. A labral seal test was performed for both reconstruction techniques. The relative change from the intact condition (value = 1) was determined for all conditions and positions. Results: PS restored contact area to at least 96% of intact (≥0.96; range, 0.96-0.98) in all 4 positions, and FLA restored contact area to at least 97% (≥0.97; range, 0.97-1.19). Contact pressure was restored to ≥1.08 (range, 1.08-1.11) with the PS and ≥1.08 (range, 1.08-1.10) with the FLA technique. Peak force returned to ≥1.02 (range, 1.02-1.05) with PS and ≥1.02 (range, 1.02-1.07) with FLA. No significant differences were found between the reconstruction techniques in contact area in any position (P >.06), with the exception that FLA presented greater contact area in flexion plus internal rotation as compared with PS (P =.003). Suction seal was confirmed in 80% of PSs and 70% of FLAs (P =.62). Conclusion: Segmental hip labral reconstruction using PS and FLA reapproximated femoroacetabular contact biomechanics close to the intact state. Clinical Relevance: These findings provide preclinical evidence supporting the use of a synthetic scaffold as an alternative to FLA and therefore avoiding donor site morbidity. Purpose/Hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical effects of segmental labral reconstruction with a synthetic polyurethane scaffold (PS) in comparison with segmental labrectomy. Our hypothesis was that reconstruction with a icroporous polyurethane implant would normalize joint kinetics of the hip and restore the suction seal. Study Design: Controlled laboratory study. Methods: We used 10 hips from 5 fresh-frozen pelvises with an intact acetabular labrum without osteoarthritis. Using an intra-articular pressure measurement system, the contact area, contact pressure, and peak force were assessed for the following conditions: intact labrum, partial anterosuperior labrectomy, and PS reconstruction. For each condition, all specimens were analyzed in 4 positions (90° of flexion, 90° of flexion and internal rotation, 90° of flexion and external rotation, and 20° of extension) and underwent a labral seal test. The relative change from the intact condition was determined for all conditions and positions. Results: Compared with the intact labrum, labrectomy resulted in a significant decrease in the contact area (P <.001) and a significant increase in the peak force (P <.001) and contact pressure (P <.001) across all positions. Compared with labrectomy, PS reconstruction resulted in a significant increase in the contact area (P <.001) and a significant decrease in the contact pressure (P ≤.02) and peak force (P <.001) across all positions. Compared with the intact labrum, PS reconstruction restored the contact area and peak force to normal values in all positions (P >.05), whereas the contact pressure was significantly decreased compared with labrectomy (P <.05) but did not return to normal values. The labral seal was lost in all specimens after labrectomy but was restored in 80% of the specimens after PS reconstruction. Conclusion: Femoroacetabular contact biomechanics significantly worsened after partial labrectomy; reconstruction using a PS restored the contact area and peak force to the intact state and improved the contact pressure increases seen after partial labrectomy. The contact area and peak force were normalized, and the labral seal was re-established in most cases. Polyamines (PAs) are ubiquitous low molecular weight, molecules found in all living cells with participation in a variety of processes. The establishment of symbiotic interactions between soil nitrogen fixing bacteria (rhizobia) and leguminous plants, as well as the formation of the root nodules where the rhizobia are hosted, depends on the production of PAs by both partners. In the bacteria, PAs provide certain traits that facilitate the recognition between the symbionts, while in the plant, PAs participate in the production of signaling molecules like hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and nitric oxide (NO), detected during the initial stages of the symbiosis. Once the symbiosis is established, the high amount and variety of PAs in the root nodules together to their participation in the metabolic reactions supporting nitrogen fixation, suggest their involvement in the nodule functioning. In addition, PAs are key players in the response to abiotic stresses contributing to the adaptation of the symbiosis to salinity, specially, by an increment in the production of PAs in the bacteroids and their interactions with other anti-stress plant hormones. Considering the importance of biological nitrogen fixation in soil fertility and agriculture productivity in a context of climate change, in this review we describe the participation of PAs to the rhizobia-legume interaction and the nitrogen fixation process, as well as its involvement in the response to salinity in the symbiosis. Most plant species develop stress symptoms when exposed to high ammonium (NH4+) concentrations. The root is the first organ in contact with high NH4+ and therefore the first barrier to cope with ammonium stress. In this work, we focused on root adaptation to ammonium nutrition in the model plant Brachypodium distachyon. Proteome analysis revealed changes associated with primary metabolism, cell wall remodelling, and redox homeostasis. In addition, it showed a strong induction of proteins related to methionine (Met) metabolism and phytosiderophore (PS) synthesis in ammonium-fed plants. In agreement with this, we show how ammonium nutrition impacts Met/ S -adenosyl-Met and PS metabolic pathways together with increasing root iron content. Nevertheless, ammonium-fed plants displayed higher sensitivity to iron deficiency, suggesting that ammonium nutrition triggers impaired iron utilization and root to shoot transport, which entailed an induction in iron-related responses. Overall, this work demonstrates the importance of iron homeostasis during ammonium nutrition and paves a new way to better understand and improve ammonium use efficiency and tolerance. Surgical treatment of labral injuries has shifted from debridement to preservation over the past decades. Primary repair and secondary augmentation or reconstruction techniques are aimed at restoring the labral seal and preserving or improving contact mechanics. Currently, the standard of care for non-repairable tears favours the use of auto- or allografts. As an alternative, we present our initial experience using a synthetic, off-the-shelf polyurethane scaffold for augmentation and reconstruction of segmental labral tissue loss or irreparable labral damage. Three patients aged 37–44 (two male, one female) with femoroacetabular impingement without associated dysplasia (Wiberg > 25°) or osteoarthritis (Tönnis <2) were included in this series. Labral reconstruction (one case) and augmentation (two cases) were performed using a synthetic polyurethane scaffold developed for meniscal substitution (Actifit®, Orteq Ltd, London, UK) and adapted to the hip. Clinical results were analysed with patient-reported outcomes (PROMs) using non-arthritic hip score (NAHS) and daily live activities hip outcome score (DLA HOS) and magnetic resonance images (MRI) at 2- and 4-year follow-up. Clinically improvement was seen in all PROMs at 4 years. The NAHS scores improved from 57.7 to 82.3 (50.9% improvement) and HOS from 59 to 79.3 (35.3% improvement). Last follow-up MRIs confirmed the presence of the scaffold; however, the scaffold signal was still hyperintense compared to native labrum. There was no shrinkage in any scaffold and no progression to hip osteoarthritis seen. Reconstruction or augmentation of segmental labral defects with a polyurethane scaffold may be an effective procedure. Summary: Although ammonium (NH4+) is a key intermediate of plant nitrogen metabolism, high concentrations of NH4+ in the soil provoke physiological disorders that lead to the development of stress symptoms.Ammonium nutrition was shown to induce the accumulation of glucosinolates (GSLs) in leaves of different Brassicaceae species. To further understand the link between ammonium nutrition and GSLs, we analysed the ammonium stress response of Arabidopsis mutants impaired in GSL metabolic pathway.We showed that the MYB28 and MYB29 double mutant (myb28myb29), which is almost deprived of aliphatic GSLs, is highly hypersensitive to ammonium nutrition. Moreover, we evidenced that the stress symptoms developed were not a consequence of the lack of aliphatic GSLs. Transcriptomic analysis highlighted the induction of an iron (Fe) deficiency response in myb28myb29 under ammonium nutrition. Consistently, ammonium‐grown myb28myb29 plants showed altered Fe accumulation and homeostasis. Interestingly, we showed overall that growing Arabidopsis with increased Fe availability relieved ammonium stress symptoms and that this was associated with MYB28 and MYB29 expression.Taken together, our data indicated that the control of Fe homeostasis was crucial for the Arabidopsis response to ammonium nutrition and evidenced that MYB28 and MYB29 play a role in this control. Hip preservation surgery is now an established part of orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. This report describes the key findings of the 11th Annual Scientific Meeting of International Society for Hip Arthroscopy—the International Hip Preservation Society—in Madrid, Spain from 16 to 19 October 2019. Lectures, seminars and debates explored the most up-to-date and expert views on a wide variety of subjects, including: diagnostic problems in groin pain, buttock pain and low back pain; surgical techniques in acetabular dysplasia, hip instability, femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, labral repair and reconstruction, cartilage defects, adolescent hips and gluteus medius and hamstring tears; and new ideas about femoral torsion, hip–spine syndrome, hip capsule surgery, impact of particular sports on hip injuries, registries, robotics and training for hip preservation specialists. Surgeons, sports physicians, radiologists and physiotherapists looking after young people with hip problems have an increasingly sophisticated armoury of ideas and techniques with which to help their patients. The concept of hip preservation has developed incredibly fast over the last decade; now it is clear that the best results can only be achieved by a multidisciplinary team working together. Objective: The number of indications for total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) surgery is increasing. Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) represents the next step in the evolution of standardised care. The primary aim of this study is to measure the in-hospital 30-day medical and surgical postoperative complications rate. The study's secondary aims are to determine the length of stay, 30-day mortality rate, 30-day reoperation and readmission rates, the ERAS overall compliance and predefined ERAS individual items compliance. Methods: This multicentre, prospective, observational study will include adult patients (aged >18 years) undergoing elective THR and TKR surgery. Consecutive patients undergoing surgery within the 2-month data collection period will be included. Centres that offer the THR and/or TKR surgery will be eligible to participate. The data collection will be done through an online data collection form via a secure, password-protected platform at each centre with predefined data fields. Results: Ethical approval for this study has been obtained from the Comité de Ética de la Investigación de la Comunidad Autónoma de Aragón (C.P.-C.I. PI18/135; on 23 May 2018). It was prospectively registered on 27 June 2018, at www.clinicaltrials.gov with identification no. NCT03570944. Although the cement in cement technique is a simple method for exchanging cemented stems, it may be technical demanding. The different geometry of different-offset Exeter long stems can be a problem with this technique. We describe a case revision hip surgery as a consequence of neglected bipolar hemiarthroplasty dislocation in which a 44mm offset long stem was exchanged by a shorter and smaller size 37.5mm offset stem. Hip impingement syndromes, particularly femoroacetabular impingement syndrome, have attracted tremendous attention in the past decade. Background: The international Hip Outcome Tool-33 (iHOT-33) is a 33-item self administered outcome measure based on a Visual Analogue Scale response format designed for young and active population with hip pathology. The aim of the present study is to translate and validate the iHOT-33 into Spanish. Methods: 97 patients undergoing hip arthroscopy were included in this prospective and multicenter study performed between January 2012 and May 2014. Crosscultural adaptation was used to translate iHOT-33 into Spanish. Patients completed the questionnaire before and after surgery. Feasibility, reliability, internal consistency, construct validity (correlation with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index), ceiling and floor effects and sensitivity to change were assessed for the present study. Results: Mean age was 48 years old. Feasibility: 41.2 % patients had no blank questions, and 71.3 % of patients had fulfilled all but one or two questions. Reliability: ICC for the global questionnaire was 0.97, showing that the questionnaire is highly reproducible. Internal consistency: Cronbach’s alpha was 0.98 for the global questionnaire. Construct validity: there was a high correlation with WOMAC (correlation coefficient >0.5). The Ceiling effect (taking into account the minimum detectable change) was 12.1 % and the floor effect was 21.6 %, for the global questionnaire. Large sensitivity to change was shown. Conclusion: the Spanish version of iHOT-33 has shown to be feasible, reliable and sensible to changes for patients undergoing hip arthroscopy. Background The Hip Outcome Score (HOS) is a self-reported questionnaire evaluating the outcomes of treatment interventions for hip pathologies, divided in 19 items of activities of daily life (ADL) and 9 sports' items. The aim of the present study is to translate and validate HOS into Spanish. Methods A prospective and multicenter study with 100 patients undergoing hip arthroscopy was performed between June 2012 and January 2013. Crosscultural adaptation was used to translate HOS into Spanish. Patients completed the questionnaire before and after surgery. Feasibility, reliability, internal consistency, construct validity (correlation with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index), ceiling and floor effects and sensitivity to change were assessed for the present study. Results Mean age was 45.05 years old. 36 women and 64 men were included. Feasibility: 13% had at least one missing item within the ADL subscale and 17% within the sport subscale. Reliability: the translated version of HOS was highly reproducible with intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.95 for ADL and 0.94 for the sports subscale. Internal consistency was confirmed with Cronbach's alpha >0.90 in both subscales. Construct validity showed statistically significant correlation with WOMAC. Ceiling effect was observed in 6% and 12% for ADL and sports subscale, respectively. Floor effect was found in 3% and 37% ADL and sports subscale, respectively. Large sensitivity to change was shown in both subscales. We report a case of a 28-year-old male who sustained an indirect injury of his left hip while playing soccer, which resulted in a posterior fracture-dislocation. Radiological examination showed signs of combined femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). We discuss the role of FAI as a risk factor for hip dislocation in low energy sport injuries. The article presents a case study of a 42-year-old athletic woman who complain of right groin pain. The patient undergoes clinical tests which showed a positive impingement and limitation of internal rotation of hip flexion. She underwent hip arthroscopy where she was placed supine on the traction table.

This article describes the use of the electrical conductivity for measuring bed expansion in a continuous anaerobic biofilm reactor in order to prevent the exit of support material from the reactor with the consequent loss of biomass. The substrate used for the tests is obtained from a two-stage anaerobic digestion (AD) process at the pilot scale that treats the liquid fraction of fruit and vegetable waste (FVW). Tests were performed with the raw substrate before anaerobic treatment (S1), the effluent from the hydrolysis reactor (S2), and the effluent from the methanogenic reactor (S3) to evaluate its effect on the electrical conductivity values and its interaction with colonized support material. The tests were carried out in a 32 L anaerobic inverse fluidized bed reactor (IFBR), which was inoculated with colonized support material and using two industrial electrodes at different column positions. The results with the previously digested samples (S2 and S3) were satisfactory to detect the presence of support material at the points where the electrodes were placed since the electrical conductivity values showed significant changes of up to 0.5 V, while with substrate S1 no significant voltage differences were appreciated. These results demonstrate that electrical conductivity can be used as an economic and simple mean for monitoring the support material expansion in order to avoid over expansion in the IFBR. It was also demonstrated that the conditions of the substrate in the methanogenic stage (pH and presence of volatile fatty acids) do not affect the operation of the electrical conductivity detection system.
