Human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) provide a virtually inexhaustible source of starting material for next generation cell therapies, offering new opportunities for regenerative medicine. Among different cell sources for the generation of iPSCs, urine cells are clinically relevant since these cells can be repeatedly obtained by non-invasive methods from patients of any age and health condition. These attributes encourage patients to participate in preclinical and clinical research. In particular, the use of urine-derived iPSC products is a convenient strategy for children with brain tumors, which are medically fragile patients. Here, we investigate the feasibility of using urine samples as a source of somatic cells to generate iPSC lines from pediatric patients with brain tumors (BT-iPSC). Urinary epithelial cells were isolated and reprogrammed using non-integrative Sendai virus vectors harboring the Yamanaka factors KLF4, OCT3/4, SOX2 and C-MYC. After reprogramming, BT-iPSC lines were subject to quality assessment and were compared to iPSCs obtained from urine samples of non-tumor pediatric patients (nonT-iPSC). We demonstrated that iPSCs can be successfully derived from a small volume of urine obtained from pediatric patients. Importantly, we showed that BT-iPSCs are equivalent to nonT-iPSCs in terms of morphology, pluripotency, and differentiation capacity into the three germ layers. In addition, both BT-iPSCs and nonT-iPSCs efficiently differentiated into functional mesenchymal stem/stromal cells (iMSC) with immunomodulatory properties. While community interpreting has attracted considerable attention in the last two decades, its counterpart, community translation, represents an under-researched area in Translation Studies (International Conference on Community Translation 2014, Call for papers). With a view to narrowing this gap, the article starts by analyzing the concept of "community translation", and then moves to that of translation policy. After situating translation policy within the concept of language planning and its categories (corpus, status and acquisition planning), the author then addresses a specific case study, that of translation policies and community translation in the U.S. at the federal and state levels, the latter of which focuses on California. While surveying and comparing translation policies at these two levels, the author also examines to what extent these policies, and the presence or absence of penalties for their noncompliance, lead to different degrees of regulation of community translation practices. One of the most important consequences of oxidative stress is the induction of oxidation in DNA molecules. Permanent modification of genetic material resulting from “oxidative damage” incidents represents the first step involved in mutagenesis, carcinogenesis, and aging. Therefore, there is an urgent need for monitoring DNA oxidative damage in a quantitative way. For this purpose, the present work evaluates the use of gel electrophoresis (GE) on-line coupled to inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to address induced oxidative events in plasmid DNA pBlueScript SK (2961 bp). Oxidative stress is induced in the samples by addition of Fe2+and H2O2through the Fenton reaction. After optimization of the set-up for large DNA fragments, the GE separation of the different oxidation products (as induced by the Fenton reaction) were followed by 31P+monitoring with ICP-MS and compared with conventional slab gels. The main advantage with the proposed set-up is that the quantification of each resulting oxidation product could be performed using just an inorganic phosphate as internal standard. El artículo enfoca en la presencia psicológica del padre. Se dice que la opción cristiana se valora la centralidad del matrimonio y por tanto la presencia de ambos padres. El tema de paternalidad dentro de los libros de Silvio Botero está examinado. El problemática familiar tiene sus raíces, en muchas ocasiones, en la ausencia de uno de los padres. En Colombia, la figura paterna, en gran porcentaje, se encuentra ausente. Se habla de la relevancia que tiene la figura paterna en el crecimiento de los hijos.

Molecular mutation spectra induced by N-ethyl-N-nitrosourea have been obtained in several organisms and test systems, frequently showing different results.In Drosophila melanogaster this spectrum has been analyzed in postmeiotic stages, resulting in good agreement between the adduct spectrum and mutational events, the majority being GC→AT transitions (61%).However, when collecting data about in vivo ENU-induced mutations in mouse germ cell stages mostly damage at A:T sites (89%) was observed. In this work we analyze the molecular spectrum induced with ENU in pre-meiotic repair–active male germ cells of D.melanogaster, using the specific locus test (SLT) with the vermilion locus as target. Results show that the most mutagenic sites in spermatogonial stem cells of Drosophila are A:T pairs (85%), with AT→TA transversions (50%) and AT→GC transitions (35%) as the most frequent mutations.Differences from the post-meiotic spectrum may be explained by the active repair of some adducts, such as O6-ethylguanine and N-alkyl-induced abasic sites. In addition, these results show the relevance of the minor lesions O4-ethylthymine and O2-ethylthymine in the production of mutations, as a consequence of their poor repair.Finally, since there is a striking similarity to the ENUinduced mutation spectrum in mouse, these results reveal that Drosophila continues to be an excellent model system. Our main aim was to describe the effect on the severity of ACEI (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor) and ARB (angiotensin II receptor blocker) during COVID-19 hospitalization. A retrospective, observational, multicenter study evaluating hospitalized patients with COVID-19 treated with ACEI/ARB. The primary endpoint was the incidence of the composite outcome of prognosis (IMV (invasive mechanical ventilation), NIMV (non-invasive mechanical ventilation), ICU admission (intensive care unit), and/or all-cause mortality). We evaluated both outcomes in patients whose treatment with ACEI/ARB was continued or withdrawn. Between February and June 2020, 11,205 patients were included, mean age 67 years (SD = 16.3) and 43.1% female; 2162 patients received ACEI/ARB treatment. ACEI/ARB treatment showed lower all-cause mortality (p < 0.0001). Hypertensive patients in the ACEI/ARB group had better results in IMV, ICU admission, and the composite outcome of prognosis (p < 0.0001 for all). No differences were found in the incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events. Patients previously treated with ACEI/ARB continuing treatment during hospitalization had a lower incidence of the composite outcome of prognosis than those whose treatment was withdrawn (RR 0.67, 95%CI 0.63–0.76). ARB was associated with better survival than ACEI (HR 0.77, 95%CI 0.62–0.96). ACEI/ARB treatment during COVID-19 hospitalization was associated with protection on mortality. The article presents a study on the relationship of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in women and cardiovascular disease. The study aims to evaluate lipid levels in women in the early onset of AGA and in healthy controls. It mentions that the diagnosis of AGA is based on family history and clinical findings. Based on results, women with AGA show higher significant mean values than non-alopecic women and no significant differences in lipid parameters in Ludwig stages II and III AGA.
