Background: Ferroptosis, a newly proposed concept of programmed cell death, has garnered significant attention in research across different diseases in the last decade. Despite thorough citation analyses in neuroscience, there is a scarcity of information on ferroptosis research specifically related to neurodegenerative diseases. Method: The Web of Science Core Collection database retrieved relevant articles and reviews. Data on publications, countries, institutions, authors, journals, citations, and keywords in the included studies were systematically analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2019 and CiteSpace 6.2.R7 software. Result: A comprehensive analysis and visualization of 563 research papers on ferroptosis in neurodegenerative diseases from 2014 to 2023 revealed emerging research hotspots and trends. The number of annual publications in this field of study has displayed a pattern of stabilization in the early years of the decade, followed by a notable increase in the later years and peaking in 2023 with 196 publications. Regarding publication volume and total citations, notable research contributions were observed from countries, institutions, and authors in North America, Western Europe, and China. Current research endeavors primarily focus on understanding the intervention mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases through the ferroptosis pathway and exploring and identifying potential therapeutic targets. Conclusion: The study highlights key areas of interest and emerging trends in ferroptosis research on neurodegenerative diseases, offering valuable insights for further exploration and potential directions for diagnosing and treating such conditions. Fresh-cut fruits are often more perishable and exhibit browning shortly after pulp is cut and exposed to natural atmosphere. In this study, fresh-cut peaches were treated with distilled water (control), 20 g L-1 soy protein isolate (SPI), 10 g L-1 calcium chloride (CaCl2) or 20 g L-1 soy protein isolate+10 g L-1 calcium chloride (20 g L-1 SPI+1.0 g L-1 CaCl2), respectively, and then stored at 0°C to assess the protective effects of these treatments on the qualities and the antioxidative system of fresh-cut peaches. The result showed that firmness, colour (∆E* ) and soluble solid content (SSC) in fresh-cut peaches treated with 20 g L-1 SPI+10 g L-1 CaCl2 were higher than control. Compared with other treatments, treatment with 20 g L-1 SPI+10 g L-1 CaCl2 significantly decreased weight loss rate, bacterial growth, respiratory rate and ethylene emission of fresh-cut peaches. Treatment with 20 g L-1 SPI+10 g L-1 CaCl2 also inhibited increase in browning degree, production of reactive oxygen species, malonaldehyde and total phenols, and maintained higher activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase, whereas inhibited the activities of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase. These results suggest that treatment with 20 g L-1 SPI+10 g L-1 CaCl2 enhanced antioxidant activities of fresh-cut peaches, inhibited browning, and was more effective in maintaining the quality of fresh-cut peaches. B Background b Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) plays a key role in the development of allergic inflammation. Based on the demonstration that TSLP is the linking factor between the environmental stimuli and the type of immune response, it is hypothesized herein that the expression of equine TSLP is upregulated in primary equine keratinocytes by Toll-like receptor (TLR) ligands (TLR-L). Finally, it was investigated whether allergic inflammation cytokine milieu (IL-4 and TNF- ) induces TSLP expression in keratinocytes from nonallergic horses and acts synergistically with TLR-1/2 and TLR-3-induced TSLP expression. These synergistic effects of the atopic cytokine milieu and TLR-L on TSLP expression also have been described in human: TLR-L Poly (I:C), FSL-1 and flagellin-induced TSLP expression, and, additionally, when combined with allergic inflammation cytokine milieu, these TLR-L synergistically further upregulate TSLP expression. This study aimed to assess the inhibitory activities of methanol extracts from the microalgae Ankistrodesmus convolutus, Synechococcus elongatus, and Spirulina platensis against Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) in three Burkitt's lymphoma (BL) cell lines, namely Akata, B95-8, and P3HR-1. The antiviral activity was assessed by quantifying the cell-free EBV DNA using real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. The methanol extracts from Ankistrodesmus convolutus and Synechococcus elongatus displayed low cytotoxicity and potent effect in reducing cell-free EBV DNA (EC<0.01 μg/ml) with a high therapeutic index (>28 000). After fractionation by column chromatography, the fraction from Synechococcus elongatus (SEF1) reduced the cell-free EBV DNA most effectively (EC=2.9 μg/ml, therapeutic index>69). Upon further fractionation by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the sub-fraction SEF1'a was most active in reducing the cell-free EBV DNA (EC=1.38 μg/ml, therapeutic index>14.5).
