Background: With the aging of society, cognitive impairment in elderly people is becoming increasingly common and has caused major public health problems. The screening of cognitive impairment in elderly people and its related influencing factors can aid in the development of relevant intervention and improvement strategies. Methods: In this study, stratified random cluster sampling was used to conduct a cross-sectional survey of elderly individuals aged 65 years in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, through an electronic questionnaire from November 2022 to November 2023. Descriptive analysis and logistic regression analysis were used to investigate cognitive impairment and its relevant influencing factors. Results: Among the 16,609 elderly people, 7524 (45.3%) were males and 9085 (54.7%) were females, with an average age of 73.6 ± 6.5 years (age range 65–101 years). The average years of education was 5.9 ± 6.2 years, and the proportion of individuals with cognitive impairment was 13.1%. With increasing age, the risk of cognitive impairment increased significantly. The risk factors for cognitive impairment in elderly individuals included advanced age, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, cerebrovascular disease, depressive symptoms, and anxiety symptoms, while the protective factors included higher education level, married status, and greater life satisfaction. Conclusion: Cognitive impairment in elderly individuals in Chengdu is serious. We can intervene in and improve cognitive impairment in elderly people by controlling blood pressure and blood sugar, treating depressive and anxiety symptoms and developing community colleges for elderly people and increasing satisfaction with life. Cotton is often threatened by Verticillium wilt caused by V. dahliae. Understanding the molecular mechanism of V. dahlia–cotton interaction is important for the prevention of this disease. To analyze the transcriptome profiles in V. dahliae and cotton simultaneously, the strongly pathogenic strain Vd592 was inoculated into cotton, and the infected cotton roots at 36 h and 3 d post infection were subjected to dual RNA-seq analysis. For the V. dahliae, transcriptomic analysis identified 317 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) encoding classical secreted proteins, which were up-regulated at least at one time point during infection. The 317 DEGs included 126 carbohydrate-active enzyme (CAZyme) and 108 small cysteine-rich protein genes. A pectinesterase gene (VDAG_01782) belonging to CAZyme, designated as VdPE1, was selected for functional validation. VdPE1 silencing by HIGS (host-induced gene silencing) resulted in reduced disease symptoms and the increased resistance of cotton to V. dahliae. For the cotton, transcriptomic analysis found that many DEGs involved in well-known disease resistance pathways (flavonoid biosynthesis, plant hormone signaling, and plant–pathogen interaction) as well as PTI (pattern-triggered immunity) and ETI (effector-triggered immunity) processes were significantly down-regulated in infected cotton roots. The dual RNA-seq data thus potentially connected the genes encoding secreted proteins to the pathogenicity of V. dahliae, and the genes were involved in some disease resistance pathways and PTI and ETI processes for the susceptibility of cotton to V. dahliae. The long-term use of tripterygium glycosides (TG) can lead to male reproductive damage. Research indicates that zinc and selenium exhibit a synergistic effect in the male reproductive system, with the combined preparation demonstrating superior therapeutic effects compared to individual preparations. The purpose of this study was to explore the specific mechanism by which zinc and selenium mitigate reproductive toxicity induced by TG in male rats. Rats were randomly assigned to three groups: control group (C group), model group (M group, receiving TG at 30 mg/kg/day), and model + zinc + selenium group (ZS group). The ZS group was also given TG gavage for the first 4 weeks. Starting from the fifth week until the conclusion of the eighth week, the ZS group received an additional protective treatment of 10 mg/kg/day Zn and 0.1 mg/kg/day Se 4 h after TG administration. Following euthanasia, blood samples, rat testis, and epididymis tissues were collected for further experiments. Combined zinc-selenium treatment corrects the imbalance of zinc-selenium homeostasis in testicular tissue induced by TG. This is achieved by upregulating the expression of metal transcription factor (MTF1) and zinc transporters ZIP8 and ZIP14 and downregulating the expression of ZnT10. Improvement of zinc and selenium homeostasis enhanced the expression of zinc-containing enzymes (ADH, LDH, and ALP) and selenoproteins (GPx1 and SELENOP) in the testis. At the same time, zinc and selenium mitigate TG-induced reproductive damage by promoting the activity of antioxidant enzymes and upregulating the expression of proteins associated with the oxidative stress pathway, including Nrf2, Keap1, HO-1, PI3K, and p-AKT. Dark matter (DM) is a major constituent of the Universe. However, no definite evidence of DM particles (denoted as "χ") has been found in DM direct detection (DD) experiments to date. There is a novel concept of detecting χ from evaporating primordial black holes (PBHs). We search for χ emitted from PBHs by investigating their interaction with target electrons. The examined PBH masses range from 1 × 1015 to 7 × 1016 g under the current limits of PBH abundance fPBH. Using 205.4 kg·day data obtained from the CDEX-10 experiment conducted in the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, we exclude the χ-electron (χ-e) elastic-scattering cross section σ χ e ∼ 5 × 10−29 cm2 for χ with a mass mχ ≲ 0.1 keV from our results. With the higher radiation background but lower energy threshold (160 eV), CDEX-10 fills a part of the gap in the previous work. Introduction: We sought to characterize cognitive profiles associated with enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVS) among Chinese older adults. Methods: This population‐based study included 1191 dementia‐free participants (age ≥60 years) in the MIND‐China MRI Substudy (2018–2020). We visually evaluated EPVS in basal ganglia (BG) and centrum semiovale (CSO), white matter hyperintensities (WMHs), lacunes, cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), and cortical superficial siderosis. We used a neuropsychological test battery to assess cognitive function. Data were analyzed using general linear models. Results: Greater BG‐EPVS load was associated with lower z‐scores in memory, verbal fluency, and global cognition (p < 0.05); these associations became non‐significant when controlling for other cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD) markers (e.g., WMHs, lacunes, and mixed CMBs). Overall, CSO‐EPVS load was not associated with cognitive z‐scores (p > 0.05); among apolipoprotein E (APOE) ‐ε4 carriers, greater CSO‐EPVS load was associated with lower verbal fluency z‐score, even when controlling for other CSVD markers (p < 0.05). Discussion: The associations of BG‐EPVS with poor cognitive function in older adults are largely attributable to other CSVD markers. Monthly unit commitment (UC) is a decision‐making process that determines the optimal generation scheduling of mid and long‐term power system, often operating as a subproblem within monthly electricity market operations and long‐term maintenance scheduling optimization in China. Dealing with transmission constraints in monthly security‐constrained unit commitment (SCUC) is considered to be challenging, but its simplification can be achieved through eliminating inactive security constraints. Additionally, the uncertainty associated with wind power needs to be given due consideration in monthly scheduling. Here, a three‐step watchlist construction strategy is proposed to facilitate the rapid screening of overloaded power flow constraints in monthly unit commitment, including three lists (i.e. list of risk, list of concern, and list of interest) under different conservatism. Importantly, the shift factor method is utilized to screen the potential overloaded constraints arising from the redispatch process for hedging the effects of large wind uncertainties. Results obtained from the testing of IEEE‐118 system indicates that more than 99% of active power flow constraints could be successfully screened out when wind power fluctuation is at 20%. Background: We sought to identify the optimal cut-off of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) for defining diabetes and to assess the agreements of fasting plasma glucose (FPG), fasting serum glucose (FSG), and HbA1c in defining diabetes among rural older adults in China. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 3547 participants (age ≥61 years, 57.8% women) from the Multidomain Interventions to Delay Dementia and Disability in Rural China from 2018–2019; of these, 3122 had no previously diagnosed diabetes. We identified the optimal cut-off of HbA1c against FPG ≥7.0 mmol/L for defining diabetes by using receiver operating characteristic curve and Youden index. The agreements of FPG, FSG, and HbA1c in defining diabetes were assessed using kappa statistics. Results: Among participants without previously diagnosed diabetes (n = 3122), the optimal HbA1c cut-off for defining diabetes was 6.5% (48 mmol/mol), with the sensitivity of 88.9%, specificity of 93.7%, and Youden index of 0.825. The correlation coefficients were 0.845 between FPG and FSG, 0.574 between FPG and HbA1c, and 0.529 between FSG and HbA1c in the total sample (n = 3547). The kappa statistic for defining diabetes was 0.962 between FSG and FPG, and 0.812 between HbA1c and FPG. Conclusions: The optimal cut-off of HbA1c for diagnosing diabetes against FPG >7.0 mmol/L is ≥6.5% in Chinese rural-dwelling older adults. The agreement in defining diabetes using FPG, FSG, and HbA1c is nearly perfect. These results have relevant implications for diabetes research and clinical practice among older adults in China. Background: Sedentary behavior is associated with cognitive impairment, but the neuropathological mechanisms underlying their associations are poorly understood. Objective: To investigate the associations of accelerometer-measured sedentary behavior patterns with brain structure and cognition, and further to explore the potential mechanisms. Methods: This community-based study included 2,019 older adults (age≥60 years, 59% women) without dementia derived from participants in the baseline examination of MIND-China (2018–2020). We assessed sedentary parameters using an accelerometer and cognitive function using a neuropsychological test battery. Structural brain markers were assessed on the structural brain MRI scans in a subsample (n = 1,009). Data were analyzed using the general linear, isotemporal substitution, and mediation models. Results: In the total sample (n = 2,019), adjusting for multiple covariates and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity, longer mean sedentary bout duration was linearly related with lower z-scores of global cognition, verbal fluency, and memory (ptrend < 0.05), whereas greater total sedentary time was linearly associated with lower z-scores of global cognition, verbal fluency, and memory only among individuals with long sedentary time (>10 h/day) (ptrend < 0.05); Breaking up sedentary time with same amount of light-intensity physical activity was significantly associated with higher verbal fluency and memory z-scores (p < 0.05). In the MRI subsample (n = 1,009), separately entering structural brain MRI markers into the mediation models substantially attenuated the associations of mean sedentary bout duration with global cognition, verbal fluency, and memory z-scores. Conclusion: Prolonged uninterrupted sedentary time is associated with poor global cognition, memory, and verbal fluency among rural older adults, and structural brain markers could partially mediate the association. Background: Plasma biomarkers have emerged as a promising approach for characterizing pathophysiology in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Objective: We aimed to characterize plasma biomarkers for AD and neurodegeneration across the AD clinical continuum, and to assess their ability to differentiate between AD, MCI, and normal cognition. Methods: This population-based study engaged 1,446 rural-dwelling older adults (age ≥60 years, 61.0% women) derived from MIND-China; of these, 402 were defined with MCI and 142 with AD. Plasma amyloid-β (Aβ), total tau (t-tau), and neurofilament light chain (NfL) concentrations were analyzed using the Simoa platform. Data were analyzed using linear and logistic regression models, and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis. Results: Across the AD clinical spectrum, plasma Aβ40 and NfL increased, whereas Aβ42/Aβ40 ratio decreased. Plasma t-tau was higher in people with AD dementia than those with MCI or normal cognition. Plasma NfL outperformed other biomarkers in differentiating AD from normal cognition (area under the ROC curve [AUC] = 0.75), but all plasma biomarkers performed poorly to distinguish MCI from normal cognition (AUC <0.60). Plasma NfL in combination with age, sex, education, and APOE genotype yielded the AUC of 0.87 for differentiating between AD and normal cognition, 0.79 between AD and MCI, and 0.64 between MCI and normal cognition. Conclusions: In this Chinese population, AD plasma biomarkers vary by age, sex, and APOE genotype. Plasma Aβ, t-tau, and NfL differ across the AD clinical spectrum, and plasma NfL appears to be superior to plasma Aβ and t-tau for defining the clinical spectrum. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Praeruptorin A (PA), a natural coumarin compound, has significant anti‐inflammatory effects. In this study, we evaluate the anti‐inflammatory effect of PA on RAW 264.7 mouse macrophages induced by Polyinosinic acid‐polycytidylic acid (poly (I:C)). RAW 264.7 mouse macrophages induced by poly (I:C) were treated with or without PA, the viability of which was determined to screen working solution of PA. RNA‐sequencing was applied to analyze the differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis were carried out. The expressions of interleukin (IL)‐1β, heme oxygenase 1 (HMOX1), prostaglandin‐endoperoxide synthase 2 (PTGS2), ATP binding cassette subfamily A member 1 (Abca1) and NF‐κB‐related proteins were measured by enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT‐PCR) and western blot. As a result, PA at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 μM slightly affected cell viability, while PA at 6 and 7 μM significantly inhibited cell viability. GO and KEGG analysis results revealed that DEGs were mainly enriched in the pathways related to inflammatory signaling. Through further analysis, we obtained five possible targets of PA, and verified that PA inhibited the expressions of IL‐1β, HMOX1, PTGS2 and Abca1 as well as the activation of NF‐κB pathway in poly (I:C)‐induced RAW264.7 cells. To summarize, PA may inhibit expressions of the inflammation‐related genes in poly (I:C)‐induced RAW264.7 cells, which demonstrates its potential as a drug against virus related diseases. Zinc deficiency has a huge impact on male reproduction. The zinc transporter (ZnT) family is involved in the maintenance of zinc homeostasis and testosterone synthesis. However, the underlying mechanisms remain to be investigated. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to determine the effect of zinc transporter 4 (ZnT4) on testosterone synthesis in male Kunming mice and mouse Leydig cells. The results of this study showed that compared with the zinc normal diet group (Con group), the zinc-deficient diet group (ZnD group) had decreased zinc content and increased ZnT4 expression in testicular tissues, and decreased serum testosterone levels, suggesting that ZnT4 may be involved in Leydig cell injury resulting from a zinc-deficient diet. Subsequently, mouse Leydig cell line TM3 cells were used to analyze the effect of ZnT4 downregulation on TM3 cell proliferation and apoptosis, on testosterone synthesis, and its underlying mechanisms. Here, we show that knockdown of ZnT4 can induce the accumulation of zinc, inhibit the viability, and induce apoptosis in TM3 cells. In addition, knockdown of ZnT4 downregulated testosterone concentration and expression of testosterone synthesis–related proteins steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR) and 3β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase/D5-D4 isomerase (3β-HSD) in TM3 cells, while hCG could rescue their levels. We show that it is ZnT4 that plays a role in testosterone production through a mediated PI3K/Akt/mTOR autophagy pathway, whereas mTORC1 complex inhibitor (Rapa) blocks the decrease in testosterone levels caused by ZnT4 downregulation. Background: Evidence has linked self-reported sedentary behavior (SB) and physical activity (PA) with cognitive impairment; however, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. We examined the associations of the accelerometer-measured movement behaviors with plasma neurofilament light chain (NfL) among older adults and the role of systemic low-grade inflammation in the associations. Results: This population-based study included 1,029 dementia-free older adults (age ≥ 60 years, range 60–88 years; 59.48% women) who undertook the ActiGraph substudy (March 2018-December 2020) in MIND-China. There were nonlinear relationships of daily SB and PA time with plasma NfL concentration, such that more daily SB time or less time spent in daily light-intensity physical activity (LPA) and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) was significantly associated with increased plasma NfL only when SB time ≥ 8.00 h/day or LPA time < 5.00 h/day or MVPA time < 2.00 h/day. Furthermore, more daily SB time or less daily LPA and MVPA time was significantly associated with higher serum low-grade inflammation score, a composite measure generated from serum IL-6, IL-8, TNF-α, and ICAM-1 (P < 0.05). Finally, low-grade inflammation score accounted for 14.5% to 17.8% of the associations between movement behaviors and plasma NfL. Conclusions: More daily SB and less PA time are associated with neurodegeneration and systemic low-grade inflammation in older adults. Introduction: Early-life educational attainment contributes to cognitive reserve (CR). We investigated the associations of lifelong CR with dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) among older people with limited formal education. Methods: This population-based cohort study included 2,127 dementia-free participants (≥60 years; 59.4% women; 81.5% with no or elementary school) who were examined at baseline (August-December 2014) and follow-up (March-September 2018). Lifelong CR score at baseline was generated from six lifespan intellectual factors. Dementia, MCI, and their subtypes were defined according to the international criteria. Data were analyzed using Cox proportional-hazards models. Results: During the total of 8,330.6 person-years of follow-up, 101 persons were diagnosed with dementia, including 74 with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and 26 with vascular dementia (VaD). The high (vs. low) tertile of lifelong CR score was associated with multivariable-adjusted hazards ratios (95% confidence interval) of 0.28 (0.14–0.55) for dementia and 0.18 (0.07–0.48) for AD. The association between higher CR and reduced AD risk was significant in people aged 60–74 but not in those aged ≥75 years (p for interaction = 0.011). Similarly, among MCI-free people at baseline (n = 1,635), the high (vs. low) tertile of lifelong CR score was associated with multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios of 0.51 (0.38–0.69) for MCI and 0.46 (0.33–0.64) for amnestic MCI. Lifelong CR was not related to VaD or non-amnestic MCI. Discussion: High lifelong CR is associated with reduced risks of dementia and MCI, especially AD and amnestic MCI. Background: Few community-based studies have examined occurrence and progression of subjective cognitive decline (SCD). Objective: To investigate prevalence and progression of SCD among rural-dwelling Chinese elderly people. Methods: This cohort study included 2,488 cognitively unimpaired adults (age≥65 years) who were examined at baseline (2014-2015) and followed in 2018. Demographic, epidemiological, clinical, and neuropsychological data were collected via in-person interviews and clinical examinations following a structured questionnaire. At baseline, SCD was assessed using the self-rated Ascertain Dementia 8-item Questionnaire. At follow-up, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular dementia (VaD) were clinically diagnosed following the international criteria. Data were analyzed using logistic regression models. Results: The prevalence of SCD was 40.07%. SCD at baseline was associated with the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio (OR) of 1.51 (95% confidence interval 1.10–2.07) for incident cognitive impairment, no dementia (CIND) and 3.11 (1.64–5.93) for incident AD. Among people with SCD at baseline, the multivariable-adjusted OR of incident CIND was 0.55(0.32–0.96) for hyperlipidemia; the multivariable-adjusted OR of incident AD was 1.21 (1.14–1.30) for older age, 0.32 (0.12–0.88) for high education, 2.60 (1.11–6.08) for carrying APOEɛ4 allele, and 0.34 (0.13–0.86) for high social support, whereas the multivariable-adjusted OR of incident VaD was 6.30 (1.71–23.18) for obesity. Conclusion: SCD affects over 40% of rural-dwelling cognitively unimpaired older adults in China. SCD is associated with accelerated progression to CIND and AD. Older age, lack of school education, APOEɛ4 allele, and low social support are associated with an increased risk of progression from SCD to AD, whereas obesity is related to accelerated progression to VaD. Background: Cognitive reserve (CR) partly explains cognitive variability in the presence of pathological brain aging. Objective: We investigated the interplay of lifelong CR with age, sex, and brain aging markers in cognitive phenotypes among older adults with very limited education. Methods: This population-based cross-sectional study included 179 dementia-free participants (age ≥65 years; 39.7% women; 67.0% had no or elementary education) examined in 2014–2016. We assessed lacunes and volumes of hippocampus, ventricles, grey matter, white matter (WM), and white matter hyperintensities. Lifelong CR score was generated from six lifespan intellectual factors (e.g., education and social support). We used Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) score to assess cognition and Petersen's criteria to define mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Data were analyzed using general linear and logistic models. Results: The association of higher lifelong CR score (range: –4.0–5.0) with higher MMSE score was stronger in women (multivariable-adjusted β-coefficient and 95% CI: 1.75;0.99–2.51) than in men (0.68;0.33–1.03) (pinteraction = 0.006). The association of higher CR with MCI (multivariable-adjusted odds ratio and 95% CI: 0.77;0.60–0.99) did not vary by age or sex. Among participants with low CR (<1.4[median]), greater hippocampal and WM volumes were related to higher MMSE scores with multivariable-adjusted β-coefficients being 1.77(0.41–3.13) and 0.44(0.15–0.74); the corresponding figures in those with high CR were 0.15(–0.76–1.07) and –0.17(–0.41–0.07) (pinteraction <0.01). There was no statistical interaction of CR with MRI markers on MCI. Conclusion: Greater lifelong CR capacity is associated with better late-life cognition among people with limited education, possibly by compensating for impact of neurodegeneration. Endothelial dysfunction often accompanies sepsis. We aimed to explore the role of PCSK9 in septic endothelial dysfunction. Sepsis was induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) treatment of human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in vitro and cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) surgery in mice in vivo. Evolocumab (EVC) and Pep 2–8, PCSK9 inhibitors, were subsequently used to determine the role of PCSK9 in sepsis-induced endothelial dysfunction in vitro and in vivo, respectively. In addition, the TLR4 agonist, Kdo2-Lipid A ammonium (KLA), was used to determine the related mechanism. Protein expression of eNOS, VE-cadherin, PCSK9, TLR4, MyD88, p-p65, p65, NLRP3, ASC, and caspase-1 p20 in mice aortas and HUVECs was measured by western blotting, while mRNA expression of TNFα, IL-1β, and IL-18 was determined by qRT-PCR. The level of inflammatory cytokines of mouse aortas was visualized by immunohistochemistry. Vasodilation of the aorta was detected by vascular reactivity experiments. The 96-h survival rate after CLP was assessed. Our findings showed that the expression of eNOS and VE-cadherin decreased, and PCSK9 expression increased, in septic HUVECs or mice. Inhibition of PCSK9 increased eNOS and VE-cadherin expression. Activation of the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB and NLRP3 pathways may be responsible for PCSK9-induced endothelial dysfunction in sepsis. Vascular reactivity tests and survival studies showed that inhibition of PCSK9 could prevent the decrease in endothelium-dependent vasodilation function and improve the survival rates of septic mice. In summary, our results suggested that increased PCSK9 expression during sepsis activated the TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB and NLRP3 pathways to induce inflammation, which resulted in vascular endothelial dysfunction and decreased survival rates. Nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain receptors (NOD-like receptors, NLRs) are involved in modulating the innate immune responses of the trophoblast and the placenta in normal pregnancy. The thymus participates in regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses. However, it is unclear whether expression of NLR is modulated in the maternal thymus during early pregnancy. In this study, thymuses were sampled at day 16 of the estrous cycle, and at days 13, 16 and 25 of gestation (n = 6 for each group) from ewes after slaughter. Different stages were chosen because the maternal thymus was under the different effects of interferon-tau and/or progesterone or not. RT-qPCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry analysis were used to analyze the expression of the NLR family, including NOD1; NOD2; major histocompatibility complex class II transactivator (CIITA); NLR family apoptosis inhibitory protein (NAIP); nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain and Leucine-rich repeat and Pyrin domain containing protein 1 (NLRP1), NLRP3 and NLRP7. The results showed that expression level of NOD1 was changed with the pregnancy stages, and expression levels of NOD2, CIITA, NAIP, NLRP1, NLRP3 and NLRP7 mRNA and proteins were peaked at day 13 of pregnancy. The levels of NOD2 and CIITA were increased during early pregnancy. The stainings for NOD2 and NLRP7 proteins were located in epithelial reticular cells, capillaries and thymic corpuscles. In summary, pregnancy stages changed expression of NLR family in the maternal thymus, which may be related to the modulation of maternal thymic immune responses, and beneficial for normal pregnancy in sheep. Background and purpose: Little is known about whether nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is associated with dementia or the role of serum proinflammatory cytokines in the association. We aimed to investigate the interrelationships of NAFLD, serum cytokines, and dementia among rural‐dwelling older adults. Methods: This population‐based cross‐sectional study included 5129 participants (aged ≥60 years; 61.79% women) who were living in rural communities and examined in March 2018–September 2018. NAFLD was defined through transabdominal ultrasound examination in the absence of hepatitis B or excessive alcohol consumption. Serum cytokines were measured in a subsample (n = 1686). Dementia, Alzheimer disease (AD), and vascular dementia (VaD) were diagnosed following international criteria. Data were analyzed with logistic regression and mediation models. Results: Of the 5129 participants, 455 (8.87%) were detected with moderate‐to‐severe NAFLD, and 292 (5.69%) were diagnosed with dementia (188 with AD and 96 with VaD). The multivariable adjusted odds ratios associated with moderate‐to‐severe (vs. no‐to‐mild) NAFLD were 2.22 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.41–3.49) for all‐cause dementia, 1.88 (95% CI = 1.01–3.50) for AD, and 2.62 (95% CI = 1.33–5.17) for VaD. In the cytokine subsample, controlling for multiple potential confounders, moderate‐to‐severe NAFLD was significantly associated with higher levels of serum monocyte chemotactic protein‐1, interleukin‐17A, interleukin‐6 (IL‐6), interleukin‐8, and tumor necrosis factor‐α (P < 0.05). The mediation analysis showed that IL‐6 mediated 12.56% of the association between NAFLD and VaD. Conclusions: Moderate‐to‐severe nonalcoholic fatty liver disease is associated with dementia and AD, especially with VaD, among rural‐dwelling Chinese older adults, in which the association with VaD is partly mediated by serum inflammatory cytokines. Sports equipment is the key to the smooth development of ice and snow sports. With the rapid development of social economy and the improvement of people's living standards, the demand for ice and snow sports equipment is increasing day by day. This article presents an improved method based on the chaos theory and the bee colony algorithm to quantify the application experience design of ice and snow sports equipment and reduce the influence of uncertain factors on the design results. First, the chaos theory can establish the dataset of application experience design and analyze the discreteness of the set. According to the bee colony algorithm, the dataset is divided into several groups, and each group obtains the best application experience design by using the design optimization strategy. Finally, the results are mixed to obtain the final experience design results. Through MATLAB simulation analysis and verification, the improved bee colony model can improve the accuracy of application experience design of ice and snow sports equipment in an uncertain environment, shorten the overall design time, and meet the requirements of application experience design of different ice and snow sports equipment. Purpose: We explore the associations of individual and composite cardiovascular health metrics with all-cause dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and vascular dementia among rural-dwelling older adults and the potential age variations in their associations. Patients and Methods: This community-based cross-sectional study included 4980 older adults (age ≥ 65 years; 57.23% women) from the baseline examination of MIND-China. In March–September 2018, data were collected via face-to-face interviews, clinical examinations, and laboratory test. We defined six cardiovascular health metrics according to the modified American Heart Association's recommendations. We diagnosed dementia and its subtypes following the international criteria. Data were analyzed using logistic regression models. Results: Of all the participants, 250 were diagnosed with dementia, including 165 with Alzheimer's disease and 75 with vascular dementia. Ideal composite global cardiovascular health metrics (vs poor composite metrics) were associated with a multi-adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence interval) of 0.62 (0.42– 0.93) for dementia, 0.88 (0.52– 1.48) for Alzheimer's disease, and 0.31 (0.16– 0.60) for vascular dementia. Moreover, ideal biological cardiovascular health metrics were associated with multi-adjusted odds ratio of 0.52 (0.28– 0.95) for dementia and 0.21 (0.06– 0.77) for vascular dementia in young–old adults (65– 74 years), whereas ideal behavioral cardiovascular health metrics were associated with multi-adjusted odds ratio of 0.48 (0.26– 0.89) for dementia and 0.16 (0.06– 0.43) for vascular dementia in old–old adults (≥ 75 years). Conclusion: Our results suggest that ideal cardiovascular health metrics are cross-sectionally associated with a low likelihood of dementia and vascular dementia among rural-dwelling older Chinese adults. Purpose: To investigate the associations of genotypes of NDUFAF6 rs6982393 and APOE and their combined genotypes with the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) in Chinese rural elderly. Methods: This cross-sectional population-based study included 5096 older adults (age ≥ 60 years, 57.1% female). Genotypes of NDUFAF6 rs6982393 and APOE were detected using the multiple-polymerase chain reaction amplification. We diagnosed AD following the criteria of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, the fourth edition and diagnosed MCI following the Petersen's criteria MCI. Data were analyzed using the logistic regression model. Results: The overall prevalence of AD and MCI was 3.57% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.040, 0.053) and 22.65% (95% CI: 0.223, 0.247), separately. The TT versus CC/CT genotype of NDUFAF6 rs6982393 was related to a higher risk of AD with the multi-adjusted odds ratio (95% CI) being 1.61 (1.02, 2.54) in the total sample, 3.36 (1.48, 7.60) in those aged 60– 69, and 1.24 (0.71, 2.17) in those aged 70 years and above. The interaction between genotype of NDUFAF6 rs6982393 with age groups (60– 69 versus ≥ 70 years) was significant on the risk of AD. The presence of APOE ε4 was not significantly associated with the risk of AD. Carrying both NDUFAF6 TT and APOE ε4 was related to a higher risk of AD with the multi-adjusted odds ratio (95% CI) being 2.69 (1.10, 2.56). In addition, there was no significant association between the above genotypes and MCI. Conclusion: In Chinese rural elderly, the TT versus CT/CC genotype of NDUFAF6 rs6982393 was associated with an increased likelihood of AD; such an association only existed among young-old adults. Carrying both NDUFAF6 rs6982393-TT and APOE ε4 was related to a higher risk of AD. Then, the sensor node and the coordinator are connected to the PC through the serial port, respectively, and the CC2530 chip transmits the data to the coordinator through the ZigBee module, establishes communication with the PC through the 2.4G wireless communication module, adopts the strategy of the thread pool to save resources, improves the response speed, and obtains students' body test data in real time. Taking the data acquisition and transmission of vital capacity and body weight subjects as an example, the system realizes the accurate transmission of the collected test data from the sensor to the terminal, greatly improves the accuracy and real-time body test data acquisition, and reduces the probability of errors in the recording process, and the collected data can be used directly or for secondary development, and it promotes the establishment of college students' physical health management system. Background and purpose: Current evidence supports the involvement of lipids in brain aging. A range of serum lipids is explored in association with brain structure and cognitive function amongst rural‐dwelling older adults. Methods: This population‐based cross‐sectional study included 184 rural‐dwelling adults (age ≥ 65 years, 39.1% women) in Shandong, China. In 2014–2016, data on demographics, lifestyle, health conditions and serum lipids were collected. Volumes of gray matter, white matter, ventricles, hippocampus and white matter hyperintensity were automatically estimated on brain magnetic resonance imaging. Global cognitive function was assessed with the Mini‐Mental State Examination (MMSE), and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) was defined according to Petersen's criteria. Data were analyzed using the general linear regression, logistic regression and mediation models. Results: Of the 184 participants, 47 were defined with MCI. Low high‐density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL‐C; <1.55 vs. ≥1.55 mmol/l) was significantly associated with reduced volumes of total white matter (multi‐adjusted β = −9.77, 95% confidence interval −19.48–0.06) and hippocampus (−0.23, −0.46–0.01), a lower MMSE score (−1.49, −2.67–0.31) and a higher likelihood of MCI (multi‐adjusted odds ratio 3.21, 95% confidence interval 1.42–7.29). The mediation effects of structural brain measures on the associations between a low level of HDL‐C and MMSE score or MCI were not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusions: This study suggests that low HDL‐C may be involved in structural brain aging and cognitive dysfunction amongst rural‐dwelling older adults in China, but the association of low HDL‐C with cognitive aging phenotypes appears not to be mediated by brain structure. We present weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) search results performed using two approaches of effective field theory from the China Dark Matter Experiment (CDEX), based on the data from both CDEX-1B and CDEX-10 stages. In the nonrelativistic effective field theory approach, both time-integrated and annual modulation analyses were used to set new limits for the coupling of WIMP-nucleon effective operators at 90% confidence level (C.L.) and improve over the current bounds in the low mχregion. In the chiral effective field theory approach, data from CDEX-10 were used to set an upper limit on WIMP-pion coupling at 90% C.L. With the recent interest in more efficient, comfortable, precise and minimally invasive surgical procedures and postoperative repairs, such as crown lengthening, there has been increasing research on the application of full digital technology in clinical scenarios. This clinical case describes an approach to crown lengthening and aesthetic restoration in a digital workflow using net-shaped self-glazed zirconia crowns. The findings of the study demonstrated the high compatibility of self-glazed zirconia with the full digital process. The presented approach ensured a higher degree of precision in crown lengthening prostheses, improved patient comfort and shortened clinical chairside time while achieving both aesthetic and functional requirements of anterior teeth in a timely and efficient manner. Background: Structural brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans may provide reliable neuroimaging markers for defining amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI).Objective: We sought to characterize global and regional brain structures of aMCI among rural-dwelling older adults with limited education in China.Methods: This population-based study included 180 participants (aged≥65 years, 42 with aMCI and 138 normal controls) in the Shandong Yanggu Study of Aging and Dementia during 2014-2016. We defined aMCI following the Petersen's criteria. Global and regional brain volumes were automatically segmented on MRI scans and compared using a region-of-interest approach. Data were analyzed using general linear regression models.Results: Multi-adjusted β-coefficient (95% confidence interval) of brain volumes (cm3) associated with aMCI was -12.07 (-21.49, -2.64) for global grey matter (GM), -18.31 (-28.45, -8.17) for global white matter (WM), 28.17 (12.83, 44.07) for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and 2.20 (0.24, 4.16) for white matter hyperintensities (WMH). Furthermore, aMCI was significantly associated with lower GM volumes in bilateral superior temporal gyri, thalamus and right cuneus, and lower WM volumes in lateral areas extending from the frontal to the parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes, as well as right hippocampus (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Brain structure of older adults with aMCI is characterized by reduced global GM and WM volumes, enlarged CSF volume, increased WMH burden, reduced GM volumes in bilateral superior temporal gyri, thalamus, and right cuneus, and widespread reductions of lateral WM volumes. Background: Cardiovascular health (CVH) metrics among Chinese older adults are poorly understood. We investigated sex disparities in CVH metrics and their management among rural-dwelling older adults in China.Methods: This community-based study included 5026 participants (age ≥ 65 years; 57.2% women) in the baseline survey of a multimodal intervention study in rural China. In March-September 2018, data were collected through face-to-face interviews, clinical examinations, and laboratory tests. We defined six CVH metrics (three behavioral factors-smoking, body mass index, and physical activity; three biological factors-blood pressure, total cholesterol, and blood glucose) following the modified American Heart Association's recommendations. We performed descriptive analysis separately for men and women.Results: Of all participants, only 0.8% achieved ideal levels in all six CVH metrics. Men were more likely than women to have ideal levels in all CVH metrics but smoking. Women had higher prevalence of ideal global (9.7% vs. 7.8%) and behavioral (18.3% vs. 9.5%) CVH metrics (p < 0.001), whereas men had higher prevalence of ideal biological CVH metrics (5.4% vs. 3.5%, p < 0.001). The prevalence of ideal global and behavioral CVH metrics increased with age in both women and men (p for trend< 0.001). Women were more likely to be aware of their hypertension and diabetes, and to receive antihypertensive treatment, while men were more likely to achieve the goal of high cholesterol treatment (p < 0.05).Conclusions: The CVH metrics among older adults living in the rural communities in China are characterized by an extremely low proportion of optimal global CVH metrics and distinct sex differences, alongside poor management of major biological risk factors.Trial Registration: ChiCTR1800017758 (Aug 13, 2018). The quality attributes of jujube fruit can be directly and indirectly affected by abiotic stresses associated with climate change. Increased temperature and drought are among the most important factors challenging sustainable jujube production in the temperate semi-arid region in northwest China. The main objective of the present study was to understand the effects of elevated air temperature and drought stress on sugar and acid accumulation and coloration of jujube fruits. The content of soluble sugar, organic acid and pigments of traditional jujube "Linwuchangzao" under different atmospheric temperatures and drought stresses were analyzed during three different fruit ripening stages. The elevated temperature (1.5–2.5° C than normal temperature) significantly increased the fruit sugar content, sugar-acid ratio, anthocyanins, flavonoids and carotenoids content. Under the drought stress where the soil moisture was 30% -50% of the field capacity, sugar content, anthocyanin, flavonoid and carotenoid content of the fruit were significantly reduced at the same temperature, but the chlorophyll and organic acid content increased. No significant interaction of Temperature x Drought was observed for all the analyzed quality parameters. The current results showed that the fruit quality of jujube variety "Lingwuchangzao" could be improved when the atmospheric temperature increases by 2° C in this region. However, drought stress had a negative impact on the fruit's sugar-acid ratio and pigment content. The present results also showed that the synthesis and accumulation of anthocyanins in jujube fruit were positively correlated with sugar content and related enzyme activities, especially Phenylalanine Ammonia-lyase (PAL) activity. This study, therefore, provides novel information for understanding the influence of growth environment on the quality properties of jujube fruits. The selection of anode materials for asymmetric supercapacitors (ASCs) has been a great challenge for the further development. As a promising anode material, Fe2O3 can effectively improve the energy density of supercapacitors. This article reviews the modification methods of Fe2O3 anodes based on different elements, which improves the conductivity and specific capacitance. In terms of carbon modification, different forms of carbon are used to change the structure or properties of Fe2O3 to obtain a larger specific surface area and electron transmission rate. In terms of modification based on metal elements, the synergy between metal oxides or metal ions and Fe2O3 improves the specific capacitance and energy density of Fe2O3. When the metal surface is modified, the core-shell structure is used to improve the charge storage and transmission capabilities. In addition, a variety of elements have been used together to further develop the properties of the elements. The proposal of carbon quantum dots (CQDs) doped with other elements provide a new reference for investigation. The article introduces the current situation of using elements to transform Fe2O3 anodes from several components, and illustrates the potential applications of these methods in the future. Electronic switches fabricated with single molecules are expected to break through the bottleneck in the development of semiconductor device miniaturization. However, at present time, most development on single molecule switches only provides one-way switching functions. Stable bidirectional reversible single-molecule switches are rarely reported. This paper reviews the recent studies on single-molecule switches. By applying an external stimulation, the bistable or polymorphic state between molecular switches can be activated, and the properties of molecules may be changed by changing conformation, dipole orientation, spin state, and charge state, so that the molecules and the supporting substrate can be coupled in parallel to the circuit. The break-junction technique can be connected to an external chemical electrode to change the conductance state. Common techniques include mechanically-controllable break-junction (MCBJ) and scanning tunneling microscope break-junction (STM-BJ). In addition, molecules may also be integrated into surface circuits at the molecular scale by the use of bottom-up surface self-assembly schemes. This paper introduces the concepts of single molecule switches from several parts and presents the potential application of these methods in the future. The purpose of this paper is to provide guidance for the study of stable bidirectional reversible single-molecule switches and to promote the role of molecular switches in the advances of miniaturization of conductor devices. In the clinical application of traditional porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns and bridges, porcelain chipping has appeared as the major problems encountered by dentists. Once fracture occurs, neither aesthetics nor chewing efficiency remains. It is difficult to meet clinical needs with current repairing options. Self-glazed zirconia has been developed recently and is widely used in crowns, bridges, and veneering owing to its high strength, low wear on opposite teeth, and aesthetic appeal. In this study, we explore the application prospect of the chipped porcelain-fused-to-metal restoration repaired by the novel self-glazed zirconia veneering with a digital workflow.
