Much effort in the past few years has been made in tunnelling, however, no work has been reported so far on how to maintain the maximum tunnelling of complex optical fields in waveguides, due to the limitations of existing physical mechanisms. Here, a new paradigm is presented for realizing anomalous wave tunnelling through a general effective double‐barrier model constructed by dispersion engineering, while preserving mode information. The observed tunnelling mechanism is corroborated well by experimental results in the microwave realm. Specifically, evanescent waves bridge the gap between external space and potential well, allowing us to modulate the leaky modes within the potential well and thus achieve multiple resonant tunnelling. Due to the constant phase difference between adjacent maximum tunnelling, such mechanism broadens the potential of binary integrated devices. For example, assembling the tunnelling unit into arrays straightforwardly alleviates the trade‐off dilemma between diffraction law and cut‐off frequency. In addition, this approach provides an ideal toolbox for achieving multifunctional tunnelling across waveguide modes of various orders or polarizations, which can boost various applications in optical filters, tunneling lasers, optical switching, and sensing. Bulk tin‐based monochalcogenides are composed of earth‐abundant, low‐cost, and non‐toxic chemical elements, which possess high thermoelectric properties making them candidate for waste heat recovery applications. Bandgap engineering offers opportunity to customize the characteristics of semiconductors as desired applications in microelectronic, thermoelectric, and so on. The bandgap of tin‐based monochalcogenides is systematically regulated by the solid‐solution method. The thermal and optical properties of SnSe(1–x)Sx (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) single crystals, synthesized successfully by a home‐modified Bridgman method, have been systematically investigated. A variety of characterizations, including x‐ray diffraction, electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, absorbance spectroscopy, and thermal analyzer, are employed to confirm the precise tuning of the component. As the S compositions increased from 0 to 1, the unit cell parameter, interplanar spacing, and optical phonon frequency exhibited a linear change, aligning with the expected bandgap shifts and calculated results. To achieve the efficient resource utilization of municipal sludge and promote the sustainability of pavement materials, this study employed liquefaction technology to process municipal sludge. The resulting liquefied-sludge-derived heavy oil was blended with 50# asphalt to prepare a bio-asphalt that can replace petroleum asphalt. Firstly, orthogonal experiments were conducted to analyze the effects of the solid–liquid ratio (dried sludge:anhydrous ethanol), liquefaction temperature, and reaction time on the yield of the sludge-derived heavy oil. Then, the basic characteristics of the sludge-derived heavy oil were studied using an elemental analyzer, gel permeation chromatography, thermal analysis, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and the differences between the sludge-derived heavy oil and petroleum asphalt were compared. Finally, to determine the appropriate content range of sludge-derived heavy oil in bio-asphalt, a comprehensive evaluation of the three major indicators, aging resistance, storage stability, low-temperature performance, and high-temperature performance was carried out for the prepared bio-asphalts. The results indicated that the optimal preparation process for liquefied sludge oil involves a liquefaction temperature of 275 °C, a solid–liquid ratio of 1:15, and a reaction time of 1 h, resulting in an oil production rate of 22.36%. The sludge-derived heavy oil demonstrated good thermal stability, with its primary components being aliphatic compounds (carboxylic acids, ketones, aldehydes, alcohols, alkanes, esters, etc.), with esters being the most abundant. Furthermore, the sludge-derived heavy oil was highly compatible with 50# asphalt, but no chemical reaction occurred between them. When the sludge-derived heavy oil content ranged from 5% to 20%, bio-asphalt showed favorable aging resistance and storage stability. As the content of the sludge-derived heavy oil increased, its low-temperature performance improved, but there was a slight decrease in high-temperature performance. Additionally, correlation analysis highlighted that the influence of sludge-derived heavy oil content on the high-temperature performance of bio-asphalt was notably greater than on other properties. We conducted a community-based cohort study to predict the 3-year occurrence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) among population aged ≥60 years. Participants were selected from two communities through randomized cluster sampling in Jiading District of Shanghai, China. The two communities were randomly divided into a development cohort (n = 12012) and a validation cohort (n = 6248) with a 3-year follow-up. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine the independent predictors. A nomogram was established to predict the occurrence of CKD within 3 years. The area under the curve (AUC), the calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA) curve were used to evaluate the model. At baseline, participants in development cohort and validation cohort were with the mean age of 68.24 ± 5.87 and 67.68 ± 5.26 years old, respectively. During 3 years, 1516 (12.6%) and 544 (8.9%) new cases developed CKD in the development and validation cohorts, respectively. Nine variables (age, systolic blood pressure, body mass index, exercise, previous hypertension, triglycerides, fasting plasma glucose, glycated hemoglobin and serum creatinine) were included in the prediction model. The AUC value was 0.742 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.728–0.756] in the development cohort and 0.881(95%CI, 0.867–0.895) in the validation cohort, respectively. The calibration curves and DCA curves demonstrate an effective predictive model. Our nomogram model is a simple, reasonable and reliable tool for predicting the risk of 3-year CKD in community-dwelling elderly people, which is helpful for timely intervention and reducing the incidence of CKD. Objective. Capillary glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) may enhance screening for childhood prediabetes and diabetes, but variations in this parameter remain unclear. We aimed to develop percentiles of HbA1c and explore the influence of various variables on HbA1c level among Chinese children. Study Design and Methods. The data were derived from the Shanghai Children's Health and Nutrition Community‐based Epidemiologic Survey (CHANCE). A total of 4,615 children aged 3–12 years were included. The capillary HbA1c level was measured using point‐of‐care (POC) testing analyzers. Abnormal HbA1c level was identified as HbA1c (%) value equal to or above the 95th percentile of the nomograms. Results. The mean HbA1c value was 5.30% (SD = 0.50%). The age‐specific 95th percentile thresholds of HbA1c (%) ranged from 5.9 to 6.2 among all children. In the whole participants, body mass index (BMI), total cholesterol (TC), outdoor activity frequency, and daily sleep duration were positively associated with high HbA1c. Among preschool‐aged children, TC and sleep duration ≥10 hr per day were associated with increased risk of being in the higher HbA1c (both P < 0.05). Among the school‐aged group, positive associations with HbA1c levels were identified for TC, living with grandparents, frequency of outdoor activity, and sleep duration (all P < 0.05). Conclusions. The present study established capillary HbA1c percentiles based on a large sample of Chinese children among aged 3–12 years. Daily sleep duration and frequency of outdoor activity, BMI, and TC were found to be associated with high HbA1c. Actions of successful public strategies that focus on promoting a healthy lifestyle, including regular physical exercise to reduce weight among children, are needed. Key Points. Background and objective: The prevalence of 12-hour shift work is increasing in various occupations. Shift work has been linked to circadian rhythm disruption, which may lead to hormonal changes and metabolic disorders, including alterations in glucose, lipid, and purine metabolism. Despite this, there is limited research on the potential connection between work shifts and abnormal serum uric acid (SUA) levels. Furthermore, the factors that contribute to abnormal SUA levels in shift workers are not well-understood. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the SUA levels of shift workers employed in an aircraft maintenance company, investigate the potential association between shift work and SUA levels, and explore the factors that may influence abnormal SUA levels in shift workers. Methods: A total of 2263 male workers from an aircraft maintenance company were included in this study using the cluster sampling method. The workers were divided into two groups based on their working shifts: night shift (N = 1047, 46.27%) and day working (N = 1216, 53.73%). A survey was conducted between April 1st and June 30th, 2022 to gather information on work, lifestyle, physical examination results, and other relevant factors. The survey included a self-designed demographic information questionnaire to collect data on workers' characteristics, medical history, years of employment, smoking and drinking habits, and main lifestyle behaviors. The workers' SUA levels were measured using uricase colorimetry. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the difference in the abnormal detection rate of SUA between the two groups, and multi-factor logistic regression analysis was used to identify the factors that influence abnormal SUA levels. Results: The study indicated that 48.9% of night shift workers and 43.8% in the regular day workers had abnormal SUA levels, with a significant difference between the two groups (χ2 = 6.125, P = 0.013). Factors such as circadian rhythm type, shift work, age, the taste of diet, type of diet, smoking, overweight or obesity based on body mass index (BMI), concentration of urine creatinine (CREA), total cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol were found to be correlated with SUA abnormalities (P < 0.05). The risk of developing SUA abnormalities was found to be higher in individuals with an intermittent (OR = 1.34, 95% CI: 0.83–2.12, P < 0.05) or evening circadian rhythm type (OR = 1.45, 95% CI: 0.86–2.43, P > 0.05) compared to those with a morning type. Additionally, factors such as night shift work, a high-sodium diet, smoking, a diet high in meat and low in vegetables, being overweight or obese, and higher levels of CREA were also found to increase the risk of developing SUA abnormalities. The study also revealed a significant dose-response relationship between BMI and abnormal uric acid levels. After controlling for other factors, the risk of developing SUA abnormalities was found to be 1.18 times higher in the night shift work group than in the day work group (OR = 1.18, 95% CI:1.02–1.34, P = 0.01). Conclusion: Shift work has been linked to a higher risk of developing SUA abnormalities, and there are several factors that may contribute to this risk. Visual simultaneous localization and mapping (VSLAM) enhances the navigation of autonomous agents in unfamiliar environments by progressively constructing maps and estimating poses. However, conventional VSLAM pipelines often exhibited degraded performance in dynamic environments featuring mobile objects. Recent research in deep learning led to notable progress in semantic segmentation, which involves assigning semantic labels to image pixels. The integration of semantic segmentation into VSLAM can effectively differentiate between static and dynamic elements in intricate scenes. This paper provided a comprehensive comparative review on leveraging semantic segmentation to improve major components of VSLAM, including visual odometry, loop closure detection, and environmental mapping. Key principles and methods for both traditional VSLAM and deep semantic segmentation were introduced. This paper presented an overview and comparative analysis of the technical implementations of semantic integration across various modules of the VSLAM pipeline. Furthermore, it examined the features and potential use cases associated with the fusion of VSLAM and semantics. It was found that the existing VSLAM model continued to face challenges related to computational complexity. Promising future research directions were identified, including efficient model design, multimodal fusion, online adaptation, dynamic scene reconstruction, and end-to-end joint optimization. This review shed light on the emerging paradigm of semantic VSLAM and how deep learning-enabled semantic reasoning could unlock new capabilities for autonomous intelligent systems to operate reliably in the real world. Intelligent compaction (IC) has emerged as a breakthrough technology that utilizes advanced sensing, data transmission, and control systems to optimize asphalt pavement compaction quality and efficiency. However, accurate assessment of compaction status remains challenging under real construction conditions. This paper reviewed recent progress and applications of smart sensors and machine learning (ML) to address existing limitations in IC. The principles and components of various advanced sensors deployed in IC systems were introduced, including SmartRock, fiber Bragg grating, and integrated circuit piezoelectric acceleration sensors. Case studies on utilizing these sensors for particle behavior monitoring, strain measurement, and impact data collection were reviewed. Meanwhile, common ML algorithms including regression, classification, clustering, and artificial neural networks were discussed. Practical examples of applying ML to estimate mechanical properties, evaluate overall compaction quality, and predict soil firmness through supervised and unsupervised models were examined. Results indicated smart sensors have enhanced compaction monitoring capabilities but require robustness improvements. ML provides a data-driven approach to complement traditional empirical methods but necessitates extensive field validation. Potential integration with digital construction technologies such as building information modeling and augmented reality was also explored. In conclusion, leveraging emerging sensing and artificial intelligence presents opportunities to optimize the IC process and address key challenges. However, cooperation across disciplines will be vital to test and refine technologies under real-world conditions. Automation transparency offers a promising way for users to understand the uncertainty of automated driving systems (ADS) and to calibrate their trust in them. However, not all levels of information may be necessary to achieve transparency. In this study, we conceptualized the transparency of the automotive human–machine interfaces (HMIs) in three levels, using driving scenarios comprised of two degrees of urgency to evaluate drivers' trust and reliance on a highly automated driving system. The dependent measures included non-driving related task (NDRT) performance and visual attention, before and after viewing the interface, along with the drivers' takeover performance, subjective trust, and workload. The results of the simulated experiment indicated that participants interacting with an SAT level 1 + 3 (system's action and projection) and level 1 + 2 + 3 (system's action, reasoning, and projection) HMI trusted and relied on the ADS more than did those using the baseline SAT level 1 (system's action) HMI. The low-urgency scenario was associated with higher trust and reliance, and the drivers' visual attention and NDRT performance improved after viewing the HMI, but not statistically significantly. The findings verified the positive role of the SAT model regarding human trust in the ADS, especially in regards to projection information in time-sensitive situations, and these results have implications for the design of automotive HMIs based on the SAT model to facilitate the human–ADS relationship. To evaluate whether using a cocktail of intercostal nerve blocks (TINB) during thoracoscopic surgery results in better clinical outcomes than patient-controlled analgesia (PCIA). Methods: Patients in two medical groups undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for pulmonary nodules in West China Hospital of Sichuan University were collected consecutively between March 2022 and December 2022. The groups were divided into two subgroups based on their analgesic program, which were TINB group and PCIA group. The primary outcome was the visual analogue scale (VAS) of the two groups at different stage after surgery and after discharge. Any analgesic related adverse events (ARAEs) were also recorded. Results: A total of 230 patients who underwent VATS were enrolled, in which 113 patients (49.1%) received a cocktail TINB after surgery, and 117 patients (50.9%) received a PCIA. After PSM, 62 patients in each group were selected. The difference of resting VAS (RVAS) and active VAS (AVAS) at different stage during hospitalization was only related to the change of period (p < 0.05, p < 0.05), and the two groups showed no significant differences in RVAS or AVAS during hospitalization (p = 0.271, p = 0.915). However, the rates of dizziness (4.84% vs 25.81%, p = 0.002), nausea and vomiting (0 vs 22.58%, p < 0.05), fatigue (14.52% vs 34.87%, p = 0.012), and insomnia (0 vs 58.06%, p < 0.05) in TINB group were lower than that in PCIA group. Besides, AVAS and RVAS at 7, 14, and 30 days after discharge in TINB group were both significantly lower than that in PCIA group (p < 0.05, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Cocktail TINB provided better analgesia after discharge and reduced the incidence of ARAEs in patients undergoing VATS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A pellet-forming as-catalyst, CuO/Al2O3, was prepared by the precipitation–tablet molding method and characterized by the Brunner–Emmet–Teller (BET), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) techniques and TEM. The characterization results showed that the formed CuO/Al2O3 was in situ reduced to Cu/Al2O3 and Cu2O/ Al2O3 catalysts in the reaction system. The catalytic performance of catalyzing hydrogenation starch into glucose was investigated in an autoclave over CuO/Al2O3. The yield of glucose reached 83.16% at a temperature of 160 °C, a pressure of 1.8 MPa, a 100 g starch solution of 15 wt%, a catalyst dosage of 2.25%, a reaction time of 4 h, and a rotational speed of 630 r/min. The reusability of the catalyst was evaluated, and the glucose yield did not decrease obviously even after being reused for five consecutive cycles. Starch was converted into glucose through the synergistic action of Cu+ and Cu0 catalysis. This work is expected to provide valuable insights into the design of catalysts and the hydrogenation process for efficient starch hydrogenation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A large-scale series of cyclic triaxial tests were conducted to explore the evolution of the dynamic resilient modulus of silty clay for the heavy-haul railway subgrade. A novel loading sequence for measuring the dynamic resilient modulus was established, which characterized the dynamic stress state of the subgrade induced by the heavy-haul train load. In the experimental investigation, the deviatoric stresses, confining stress, initial moisture content, and compaction degree were considered as variables, and the effects of the aforementioned variables were evaluated quantitatively. The experimental results showed that the dynamic resilient modulus was negatively related to deviatoric stresses and initial moisture content, where the average decreased rates were 14.65% and 27.79% with the increase in deviatoric stresses from 60 kPa to 150 kPa and increase in the initial moisture content from 9.8% to 15.8%, respectively. Furthermore, the dynamic resilient modulus was positively related to confining stress and compaction degree, where the average increased rates were 23.25% and 27.48% with the increase in confining stress from 20 kPa to 60 kPa and increase in compaction degree from 0.91 to 0.95. To provide a better application, the two high-accuracy predicted methods were established through the empirical model and artificial neural network approach including the aforementioned variables. Life cycle assessment (LCA) plays an increasingly important role in environmental management, particularly in promoting energy and carbon-conscious practices across various disciplines. This review provides an overview of the latest innovations and potential benefits of integrating LCA into ecological slope treatment strategies. This study explores new developments in LCA methodology and its application to slope treatment, aiming to improve the integration of infrastructure development and environmental stewardship. Through an extensive review of over 120 peer-reviewed journal articles and a critical analysis of the intersection of LCA with slope treatment, this paper identifies innovative techniques that have the potential to significantly reduce the environmental impact of slope management. The review emphasizes advanced LCA practices that quantify and mitigate carbon emissions throughout the life cycle stages of slope treatments. Key findings demonstrate that LCA enhances the methodological rigor in assessing ecosystem services and impacts, and reveals new strategies that emphasize the importance of ecological considerations in infrastructure projects. Future research directions focus on refining LCA data acquisition and promoting a standardized knowledge base to support precision in ecological impact assessments. In conclusion, the adoption of LCA in slope treatment is imperative for aligning industry practices with global sustainability targets, emphasizing the importance of integrating uncertainty analysis and long-term impact assessments to bolster the credibility of LCA outcomes. Hypertension has become increasingly prevalent in Chinese children and adolescents in recent decades, which affects growth and development of children, leads to cognitive decline and multiple target organ damage. Here, we assessed the impact of different body mass index (BMI) trajectories on the occurrence of hypertension in children and adolescents using a cohort study in Northeast China. Children and adolescents aged 5–18 years was extracted for physical examination in Fuxin City, Liaoning Province, China during the 2009–2015 period. A latent category growth mixed model (LCGMM) was used to classify BMI changes and analyze the effect of different BMI trajectories on the risk of occurrence of hypertension in these participants within 5 years. All participates were divided into five BMI trajectories by LCGMM method: slow increasing group (n = 2616, 30.8%), overweight and obesity (OW/OB) group (n = 1141, 13.4%), normal decreasing group (n = 232, 2.7%), stable normal group (n = 4383, 51.6%), and fast-increasing group (n = 120, 1.4%). Compared with the stable normal group, the slow increasing group [adjusted odds ratio (AOR): 1.610, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.304–1.989], the OW/OB group (AOR: 3.172, 95% CI: 2.500–4.023) and the fast-increasing group (AOR: 2.708, 95% CI: 1.445–5.074) all increased the risk of developing hypertension in children and adolescents. The potential of developing hypertension varies among groups of children aged 5–18 with different BMI trajectories. Children and adolescents in the normal BMI range (the slow growth group) still need to be aware of the change in BMI trajectory to stop or slow down the progression of BP abnormalities. Five body mass index trajectories from ages 5–18 years were determined using the LCGMM method, which labeled as the slow increasing group, overweight and obesity (OW/OB) group, normal decreasing group, stable normal group, and fast-increasing group. Different BMI trajectories in children and adolescents aged 5–18 years are differentially associated with the development of hypertension. Increased BMI levels in children and adolescents increase the risk of hypertension. Moreover, even within the normal BMI range, a modest growth might raise the risk of high-normal BP. The deformation behaviour of the asphalt concrete (AC) depends on the loading state and the temperature, accompanied by a large number of microcracks. In this study, the deformation and failure behaviour of the AC under uniaxial compression were investigated by the acoustic emission (AE). Both the stress–strain relationship and the energy dissipation were employed to analyse the macroscopic deformation of the specimen at low and medium temperatures. The AE parameters including count, energy and amplitude were measured in real-time during the loading process. The damage morphology of specimens was characterised by the failure location with the AE technology. Results show that with the rise of the temperature, the strength of AC specimens gradually decreased, which leads to a lower capacity in storing strain energy. The dissipative energy is greatly affected by the damage degree of the specimen. Both the event count and amplitude increased rapidly when the specimen failure occurred. The AE parameters are relatively sensitive to the deformation failure of asphalt mixtures influenced by the temperature. Furthermore, the results also imply that the AE method used in the present study to characterise the deformation failure in pavement engineering is more scientific and precise. In order to build an appropriate prediction model of pavement friction coefficient attenuation, the effects of aggregate texture, on a basis of texture scanning and pavement testing of the dynamic friction coefficient, traffic volume, and rock characteristics on pavement slide decay resistance were studied, and the accuracy of the developed prediction model of friction coefficient was thereafter compared and analysed. First, based on the tire-pavement dynamic friction analyzer independently developed by the research group, accelerated loading tests under different traffic conditions were conducted by the orthogonal test method, and the dynamic friction coefficient of pavement during the abrasion process was recorded. At the same time, the non-contact laser profile measurement system was used to collect three-dimensional micro-texture data of coarse aggregate surface at different abrasion stages, and characteristic parameters such as height, wavelength, and shape were calculated. Second, the factors such as traffic volume and rock characteristics were incorporated, and the algorithms such as multiple linear stepwise regression, feedforward neural network, and random forest regression were adopted to develop estimation models of pavement friction. The results showed that the model constructed based on only texture feature parameters poorly represented pavement skid resistance. After introducing the two indicators of total traffic volume and rock type, the correlation coefficients of the model significantly improved, reaching 0.63, 0.58, and 0.82 respectively, indicating that the latter two factors have significant effects on the anti-skid attenuation of pavement. Moreover, the above three models can achieve satisfactory prediction results. In addition, when a large sample size can be obtained, a random forest algorithm is recommended to acquire higher prediction accuracy of pavement friction coefficient attenuation. The Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) has been developed to estimate the strength distributions of heterogeneous materials influenced by different factors. Evidences showed the link between allergy and depression, while the relationships of depression with allergy-related outcomes is insufficient. The objective of this study is to evaluate and compare the relationship of depression with allergy-related outcomes assessed using two different outcome indicators, in a population-based study. A cross-sectional study was performed of 1094 participants in the 2005–2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). The self-reported allergic symptoms of allergic rhinitis (AR) status and immunoglobulin E (IgE) were used to evaluate the allergy-related outcomes. The depression disorder was defined as the ≥ 10 points on the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Logistic and linear regression models were performed to illustrate the associations of depression and allergy-related outcomes. The prevalence of AR and depression was 34.2% and 6.8%, respectively. The odds of depression were 8.6% higher in participants with AR patients compared those without AR [odds ratio (OR) = 1.739, 95% confidence interval (CI): (1.034, 2.933)], while the odds of depression in participants with allergic sensitization and without allergic sensitization were not found significant difference. Allergy is positively associated with depression disorder, and patients with allergy-related outcomes, such as AR, may be at higher risk of depression, while the IgE level was not founded to be related with depression. In order to build an appropriate prediction model of pavement friction coefficient attenuation, the effects of aggregate texture, on a basis of texture scanning and pavement testing of the dynamic friction coefficient, traffic volume, and rock characteristics on pavement slide decay resistance were studied, and the accuracy of the developed prediction model of friction coefficient was thereafter compared and analysed. First, based on the tire-pavement dynamic friction analyzer independently developed by the research group, accelerated loading tests under different traffic conditions were conducted by the orthogonal test method, and the dynamic friction coefficient of pavement during the abrasion process was recorded. At the same time, the non-contact laser profile measurement system was used to collect three-dimensional micro-texture data of coarse aggregate surface at different abrasion stages, and characteristic parameters such as height, wavelength, and shape were calculated. Second, the factors such as traffic volume and rock characteristics were incorporated, and the algorithms such as multiple linear stepwise regression, feedforward neural network, and random forest regression were adopted to develop estimation models of pavement friction. The results showed that the model constructed based on only texture feature parameters poorly represented pavement skid resistance. After introducing the two indicators of total traffic volume and rock type, the correlation coefficients of the model significantly improved, reaching 0.63, 0.58, and 0.82 respectively, indicating that the latter two factors have significant effects on the anti-skid attenuation of pavement. Moreover, the above three models can achieve satisfactory prediction results. In addition, when a large sample size can be obtained, a random forest algorithm is recommended to acquire higher prediction accuracy of pavement friction coefficient attenuation. Background: The global prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the general population is relatively clear. Our previous study showed that elderly individuals who are physically disabled are more likely to experience kidney function impairment, and the main purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with CKD in elderly patients with physical disabilities. Methods: A total of 2679 elderly individuals with physical disabilities from the 2018 Shanghai Disability Health Survey were screened to calculate the prevalence of CKD. Multiple logistic regression was performed to identify the factors associated with CKD. Detailed subgroup analyses of disability level were also conducted. Results: We confirmed CKD in 287 of 2679 (10.7%) participants. Female sex, age, history of hypertension, red blood cell count, albumin, urea, and uric acid (UA) were independently correlated with CKD. Age and UA abnormalities were common risk factors for different levels of disabilities. Conclusion: The prevalence of CKD is higher in the mild level of older physically handicapped individuals. Age and the level of UA should also be considered in this population. The preventive strategies for patients with two levels of elderly disability should have different focuses. Construction accidents can lead to serious consequences. To reduce the occurrence of such accidents and strengthen the execution capabilities in on-site safety management, managers must analyze accident report texts in depth and extract valuable information from them. However, accident report texts are usually presented in unstructured or semi-structured forms; analyzing these texts manually requires a lot of time and effort, it is difficult to cope with the demand of analyzing a large number of accident texts, and the quality of key information extracted manually may be poor. Therefore, this study proposes a classification method based on natural language processing (NLP) technology. First, we developed a text classification model based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) that can automatically classify accident categories based on accident text features. Next, taking the classified fall accidents as an example, we extracted key information from accident narratives using the term frequency-inverse document frequency (TF-IDF) method and presented it visually using word clouds. The results show that the overall accuracy of the CNN model reaches 84%, which is better than the other three shallow machine-learning models. Then, eight key accident areas and three accident-prone operations were identified using the TF-IDF algorithm. The scenic byways in Western Sichuan are some of the most popular self-driving tourism destinations in China. However, the current network of scenic byways in the region is not well-coordinated with the level of regional tourism development. This paper, based on travel digital footprints, uses methods such as spatial design network analysis, GIS spatial analysis, social network analysis models, and spatial econometric models to analyze the accessibility and self-driving tourism spatial behavior characteristics in Western Sichuan. The main research results are as follows: (1) the accessibility level of scenic byways in Western Sichuan exhibits significant spatial variation, with the majority of areas demonstrating moderate to poor accessibility; (2) the network structure of self-driving tourism spatial behavior displays characteristics of low overall network density, but with a high clustering coefficient and relatively short average path length, indicating a significant small-world phenomenon. All network node indicators exhibit significant heterogeneity, with the core nodes displaying clear clustering characteristics; (3) the accessibility of scenic byways and self-driving tourism spatial behavior exhibit significant spatial spillover effects. Mountainous expressways with bridge-tunnel groups are characterized by complex environments and high driving risks, making them crucial sections for highway safety. This study applied eye-tracking techniques to evaluate driving safety and comfort in bridge-tunnel groups. Drivers' pupil diameter and fixation point distribution were measured in real vehicle tests. The influence of tunnel length, adjacent tunnel spacing, and natural lighting on drivers' pupil diameters were compared and analyzed. The maximum transient velocity of pupil area was introduced to describe the drivers' visual load and driving comfort. The results indicate that the driving workload reaches its maximum in the first tunnel in bridge-tunnel groups and is positively correlated with the tunnel length in other sections. Excessive or insufficient distance between adjacent tunnels is detrimental to driving comfort. The driving workload is higher at night compared to during the day. Moreover, the greater tunnel length in bridge-tunnel groups and the larger number of tunnels, suggest a higher driving workload for drivers. The evaluation of in-service pavements' performance is a complex system that encompasses a variety of uncertain factors. These uncertainties include random, fuzzy, gray, and unascertained information, and their interrelationships are intricate, making comprehensive quantification unachievable. Nonetheless, current highway management organizations rely on a comprehensive indicator, namely, the Pavement Quality Index (PQI), to assess the level of pavement performance. This paper introduces a novel approach that employs blind number theory to evaluate the reliability of pavement performance test data. The proposed method aims to enhance the representativeness of PQI and is demonstrated using detection data from highway asphalt pavements in Hunan Province. The method takes into account the probability distribution characteristics of evaluation metrics and incorporates the blind number representation format of PQI. A confidence model for pavement performance evaluation is established to assess the reliability of pavement detection results. The method also integrates expert empowerment and entropy weight to consider both the subjectivity of evaluation and the objectivity of measured data. The method presented in this study has demonstrated superior performance compared to traditional evaluation index systems. This is attributed to the effective utilization of blind information to accurately characterize the discreteness of pavement performance indexes. In slope ecological restoration projects, reinforcing soil and promoting vegetation growth are essential measures. Guest soil spraying technology can be used to backfill modified soil and vegetation seeds onto the slope surface, resulting in successful ecological restoration. The use of organic polymer modifiers to reinforce soil has several benefits, such as high strength, effective results, and low pollution levels. Organic polymer soil modifiers can be divided into two categories: synthetic polymer modifiers and biopolymer modifiers. This paper provides a thorough review of the properties and interaction mechanisms of two types of polymer modifiers in soil consolidation. The properties of organic polymer modifiers make them applicable in soil and vegetation engineering on slopes. These modifiers can enhance soil mechanics, infiltration, and erosion resistance and promote vegetation growth. Therefore, the suitability of organic polymer modifiers for soil and vegetation engineering on slopes is demonstrated by their properties and potential for improvement in key areas. Background: Although several studies have confirmed the prognostic value of the consolidation to tumor ratio (CTR) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), there still remains controversial about it. Methods: We systematically searched the PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science databases from inception to April, 2022 for eligible studies that reported the correlation between CTR and prognosis in NSCLC. Hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were extracted and pooled to assess the overall effects. Heterogeneity was estimated by I2 statistics. Subgroup analysis based on the cut-off value of CTR, country, source of HR and histology type was conducted to detect the sources of heterogeneity. Statistical analyses were performed using STATA version 12.0. Results: A total of 29 studies published between 2001 and 2022 with 10,347 patients were enrolled. The pooled results demonstrated that elevated CTR was associated with poorer overall survival (HR = 1.88, 95% CI 1.42–2.50, P < 0.01) and disease-free survival (DFS)/recurrence-free survival (RFS)/progression-free survival (PFS) (HR = 1.42, 95% CI 1.27–1.59, P < 0.01) in NSCLC. According to subgroup analysis by the cut-off value of CTR and histology type, both lung adenocarcinoma and NSCLC patients who had a higher CTR showed worse survival. Subgroup analysis stratified by country revealed that CTR was a prognostic factor for OS and DFS/RFS/PFS in Chinese, Japanese, and Turkish patients. Background and Aims: The annual incidence of early‐onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC) is increasing at an alarming rate. The prognosis of EOCRC remains controversial, and whether the early onset is a risk factor for colorectal cancer remains unclear. Methods: We searched four electronic bibliographic databases from database inception to April 25, 2022 for studies that included both early‐ and later‐onset patients and performed a prognostic analysis. Random‐effects models were used to summarize the prognostic information extracted by the investigators, including overall survival (OS), cancer‐special survival (CSS), and disease‐free survival (DFS). Network meta‐analysis (NMA) was used to compare patients' long‐term prognoses in different age subgroups. Results: After 694 reports were screened, 13 studies were included in the final analysis, with a total of 448,781 CRC cases. In the meta‐analysis of the 5‐year OS, EOCRC had a better prognosis compared to LOCRC (hazard ratio [HR] 0.87, 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.74–0.99; relative risk [RR] 0.83, 95% CI, 0.78–0.89). No difference in prognosis was found between the two groups in terms of 5‐year CSS (RR 0.99, 95% CI, 0.93–1.05), 5‐year DFS (RR 0.90, 95% CI, 0.74–1.09), and short‐term OS. In the NMA, patients aged <30 years had the worst outcome (surface under the cumulative ranking curve [SUCRA], 15.8%) in 5‐year OS; consistent results were observed in the analysis of 5‐year CSS (<30 years, SUCRA 4.5%), but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: Although patients with early‐onset CRC had better OS than those with later‐onset CRC, there was no difference in the CSS. Meanwhile, the trend for survival was worse in younger patients, especially in those ages 18–29 years. Thus, more attention should be paid to early diagnosis and treatment of EOCRC. Background: To explore the effect and mechanism of action of miR-210 on postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMPO) in ovariectomized rats in vivo. Methods: An ovariectomized (OVX) rat model was established by ovariectomy. Tail vein injection was performed to overexpress and knock down miR-210 in OVX rats, followed by the collection of blood and femoral tissues from each group of rats. And quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) was applied to assess the expression level of miR-210 in femoral tissues of each group. Micro computed tomography (Micro CT) was adopted to scan the microstructure of the femoral trabecula in each group to obtain relevant data like bone mineral density (BMD), bone mineral content (BMC), trabecular bone volume fraction (BV/TV), trabecular thickness (Tb.Th), bone surface-to-volume ratio (BS/BV), and trabecular separation (Tb.Sp). ELISA was used for determining the level of bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP), amino-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen (PINP), osteocalcin (OCN), and C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX-1) in serum; and Western blot for the protein level of Runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), osteopontin (OPN), and collagen type I alpha 1 (COL1A1) in femoral tissues. Results: MiR-210 expression was significantly decreased in femoral tissues of OVX rats. Overexpression of miR-210 could obviously increase BMD, BMC, BV/TV and Tb.Th, whereas significantly decrease BS/BV and Tb.Sp in femurs of OVX rats. Moreover, miR-210 also downregulated BALP and CTX-1 level, upregulated PINP and OCN level in the serum of OVX rats promoted the expression of osteogenesis-related markers (Runx2, OPN and COL1A1) in the femur of OVX rats. Additionally, further pathway analysis revealed that high expression of miR-210 activated the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)/Notch1 signaling pathway in the femur of OVX rats. Conclusion: High expression of miR-210 may improve the micromorphology of bone tissue and modulate bone formation and resorption in OVX rats by activating the VEGF/Notch1 signaling pathway, thereby alleviating osteoporosis. Background: The associations between obesity and abnormalities of upper and lower extremity arteries remain to be elucidated. This study is aimed to investigate whether general obesity and abdominal obesity are associated with upper and lower extremity artery diseases in a Chinese community population. Methods: This cross-sectional study included 13,144 participants in a Chinese community population. The associations between obesity parameters and abnormalities of upper and lower extremity arteries were evaluated. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to assess the independence of associations between obesity indicators and abnormalities of peripheral arteries. Nonlinear relationship between body mass index (BMI) and risk of ankle-brachial index (ABI) ≤ 0.9 was evaluated using a restricted cubic spline model. Results: The prevalence of ABI ≤ 0.9 and interarm blood pressure difference (IABPD) ≥ 15 mmHg in the subjects was 1.9% and 1.4% respectively. Waist circumference (WC) was independently associated with ABI ≤ 0.9 (OR 1.014, 95% CI 1.002–1.026, P = 0.017). Nevertheless, BMI was not independently associated with ABI ≤ 0.9 using linear statistical models. Meanwhile, BMI and WC were independently associated with IABPD ≥ 15 mmHg respectively (OR 1.139, 95% CI 1.100–1.181, P < 0.001, and OR 1.058, 95% CI 1.044–1.072, P < 0.001). Furthermore, prevalence of ABI ≤ 0.9 was displayed with a U-shaped pattern according to different BMI (< 20, 20 to < 25, 25 to < 30, and ≥ 30). Compared with BMI 20 to < 25, risk of ABI ≤ 0.9 was significantly increased when BMI < 20 or ≥ 30 respectively (OR 2.595, 95% CI 1.745–3.858, P < 0.001, or OR 1.618, 95% CI 1.087–2.410, P = 0.018). Restricted cubic spline analysis indicated a significant U-shaped relationship between BMI and risk of ABI ≤ 0.9 (P for non-linearity < 0.001). However, prevalence of IABPD ≥ 15 mmHg was significantly increased with incremental BMI (P for trend < 0.001). Compared with BMI 20 to < 25, the risk of IABPD ≥ 15 mmHg was significantly increased when BMI ≥ 30 (OR 3.218, 95% CI 2.133–4.855, P < 0.001). Conclusions: Abdominal obesity is an independent risk factor for upper and lower extremity artery diseases. Meanwhile, general obesity is also independently associated with upper extremity artery disease. Background: The association of anxiety and depression with adverse reactions after receipt of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine is not clear among the general population. This study aims to evaluate the effect of anxiety and depression on self-reported adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccine. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted during April–July 2021. Participants completing the two doses of vaccine were included in this study. Sociodemographic information, anxiety and depression levels and adverse reactions after the first dose of vaccine for all participants were collected. The anxiety and depression levels were assessed by the Seven-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale and the Nine-item Patient Health Questionnaire Scale, respectively. The multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between anxiety and depression and adverse reactions. Results: A total of 2161 participants were enrolled in this study. The prevalence of anxiety and depression was 13% (95% confidence interval (CI), 11.3–14.2%) and 15% (95%CI, 13.6–16.7%), respectively. Of the 2161 participants, 1607 (74%; 95% CI, 73–76%) reported at least one adverse reaction after the first dose of the vaccine. Pain at the injection site (55%) and fatigue and headache (53% and 18%, respectively) were the most commonly reported local and systemic adverse reactions, respectively. Participants with anxiety or depression or both were more likely to report local and systemic adverse reactions (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The results suggest that anxiety and depression increase the risk of self-reported adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccine. In the laboratory, there are significant differences in mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures with the same size gradation and asphalt binder, which is not conducive to evaluating and designing the pavement structure accurately. Meanwhile, the influence of aggregate segregation in height on the mechanical properties of asphalt mixtures is unclear. This study developed a new method to generate a three-dimensional (3D) model of the real composition and aggregate shape to characterize the aggregate segregation during Superpave gyratory compaction (SGC). The graphic segregation index (GPSI) is employed to assess the mixing degree of coarse aggregate and asphalt mortar within spatially variable specimens [i.e., Superpave-13, stone mastic asphalt (SMA-13), and open-graded asphalt friction course (OGFC-13) mixtures]. The results reveal that asphalt mixtures with different aggregate gradations have different compaction characteristics. For example, the increase of fine aggregates may reduce the strain energy and the average contact force during compaction. The compaction curves of the three gradation types were very different, which is attributed to different packing states and gyratory numbers. Aggregate segregation has a significant effect on micromechanical behavior. Specifically, the contact number and the proportion of strong contact force change considerably with height. In terms of segregation degree, the GPSI of OGFC-13 specimens was the highest, and the volume change of its fine particles created a leakage zone after the compaction. Additionally, this segregation had an increasing tendency with gyration numbers, and it was influenced by gradation types. It has been widely reported that the farmers were at increased risk of neurologic disorders, which probably be related with agricultural risk factors. The intensity of agricultural risk factors was rather high in the solar greenhouse than those in the agricultural farm, while the risk and prevalence of neurologic symptoms among solar greenhouse workers are unclear, which may provide evidence of neurologic dysfunction before clinically measurable signs are evident. This study aimed to evaluate the association among solar greenhouse working, field working, and neurologic symptoms. A cross-sectional study was conducted in China, and 986 Chinese Han population consisting 711 solar greenhouse workers (greenhouse worker group) and 275 field farmers (field worker group) were included. Participants provided information on demographic information, number of solar greenhouses owned (only solar greenhouse workers), working lifetime, and neurologic symptoms through an established questionnaire Q16 to assess the impact of occupational exposure to neurotoxicants, and the total scores were calculated. Multiple linear regression models were used to analyze the association among solar greenhouse working, field working, and neurologic symptoms. The total scales of the neurologic symptoms were higher in the solar greenhouse worker group (20.29 ± 4.79) than those in the field worker group (19.44 ± 4.22) (p < 0.05). Multivariate multiple linear regression showed that solar greenhouse working was positively associated with the scales of the neurologic symptoms (β = 0.248, 95% CI: (0.112, 0.383)). And the age, working lifetime, and current smoking were also positively associated with the scores of the neurologic symptoms, β = 0.007, 0.006 and 0.485 respectively (All p < 0.05). Unsaturated soil is a form of natural soil whose pores are filled by air and water. Different from saturated soil, the microstructure of unsaturated soil consists of three phases, namely, the solid phase (soil particle), vapor phase, and liquid phase. Due to the matric suction of soil pores, the hydraulic and mechanical behaviors of unsaturated soils present a significant dependence on the moisture condition, which usually results in a series of unpredictable risks, including foundation settlement, landslide, and dam collapse. Microbial-induced calcite precipitation (MICP) is a novel and environmentally friendly technology that can improve the water stability of unsaturated soft or expansive soils. This paper reviews the microscopic mechanisms of MICP and its effect on the mechanical properties of unsaturated soils. The MICP process is mainly affected by the concentration of calcium ions and urea, apart from the concentration of bacteria. The moisture-dependent properties were comparatively analyzed through mechanical models and influence factors on the experimental data among various unsaturated soils. It suggests that the variations in resilient modulus and permanent deformation are strongly related to the extent of MICP applied on unsaturated soils. To reduce traffic congestion and pollution, urban rail transit in China has been in a stage of rapid development in recent years. As a result, rail transit service interruption events are becoming more common, seriously affecting the resilience of the transportation system and user satisfaction. Therefore, determining the changing mechanism of the passenger waiting tolerance, which helps establish a scientific and effective emergency plan, is urgent. First, the variables and levels of the urban rail service interruption scenarios were screened and determined, and the stated preference questionnaire was designed using the orthogonal design method. Further, the data of the waiting tolerance of passengers during service interruptions were obtained through questionnaires. Second, combined with the questionnaire data, an accelerated failure time model that obeys the exponential distribution was constructed. The results indicate that factors such as the service interruption duration, travel distance, bus bridging, information accuracy, attention to operation information, travel frequency and interruption experience affect the waiting tolerance of passengers during service interruptions. Finally, combined with the sensitivity analysis of the key influencing factors, the policy analysis and suggestions are summarized to provide theoretical support for the urban rail operation and management department to capture the passenger waiting tolerance accurately during service interruptions and formulate an efficient, high-quality emergency organization plan. Background: This study aimed to examine the association between cardiopulmonary function, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and cognitive function among nursing home residents aged 80 years and over. Methods: A nursing home-based, cross-sectional study was implemented among 677 aged over 80 years in Shanghai, China. A total of 197 participants underwent effective cardiopulmonary function examinations. Mini-Mental Status Examination (MMSE) and Short Form-36 scales (SF-36) were used to assess cognitive function and HRQOL, respectively. Results: Decline in left ventricular ejection fractions (LVEF) [adjusted odds ratio (AOR), 1.98; 95% confidential interval (CI), 1.03–3.81)] and vital capacity (VC) (AOR, 2.08; 95%CI, 1.07–4.04) was associated with cognitive impairment. After adjusting confounding factors, relationships between cognitive function and physical functioning (PF) (AOR, 0.98; 95%CI, 0.97–0.99) still existed. Conclusions: Healthcare professionals should pay more attention to cardiopulmonary health and HRQOL in the nursing home residents. Background: Populus euphratica Olivier is a kind of tree capable of growing in extremely arid desert and semi-desert environments. In this study, a culture-dependent method was used to analyze the bacterial diversity of stem liquid of P. euphratica and resina of P. euphratica, and to further evaluate plant growth promoting (PGP) activity. Results: A total of 434 bacteria were isolated from stem fluid and resina of P. euphratica in Ebinur Lake Wetland Nature Reserve and Mulei Primitive forest. The results of taxonomic composition analysis shows that Gammaproteobacteria, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria_c are the three dominant groups in all the communities, and the representative genera are Bacillus, Nesterenkonia and Halomonas. The diversity analysis shows that the culturable bacterial community diversity of P. euphratica in Ebinur Lake Wetland Nature Reserve is higher than that in Mulei Primitive forest, and the bacterial community diversity of P. euphratica stem fluid is higher than that of resina. According to PGP activity evaluation, 158 functional bacteria with plant growth promoting potential were screened. Among them, 61 strains havephosphorus solubilizing abilities, 80 strains have potassium solubilizing abilities, 32 strains have nitrogen fixation abilities, and 151 strains have iron ammonia salt utilization abilities. The germination rate, plant height, and dry weight of the maize seedlings treated with strains BB33-1, TC10 and RC6 are significantly higher than those of the control group. Objective: In observational studies, testosterone has been reported to be associated with some types of cancers. However, the direction and magnitude of the causal association between testosterone and different types of cancer remain unclear. This Mendelian randomization study assessed the causal associations of total testosterone (TT) and bioavailable testosterone (BT) with cancer risk in men. Methods: We performed two-sample Mendelian randomization using publicly available GWAS summary statistics to investigate the genetically causal association between testosterone and the risk of 22 kinds of cancers in men. Causal estimates were calculated by the inverse variance weighted method. We also performed additional sensitivity tests to evaluate the validity of the casualty. Results: Genetically predicted BT level were significantly associated with an increased risk of prostate cancer [odds ratio (OR) = 1.17 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.09–1.26, P = 2.51E−05] in the MR analysis with the IVW method. TT was found to be the suggestive protective factor against stomach cancer (OR = 0.66, 95% CI: 0.48–0.93, P = 0.0116) as well as pancreatic cancer (OR = 0.59, 95% CI: 0.36–0.96, P = 0.0346). A suggestive association was found between TT and the occurrence of small intestine cancer (OR = 1.0004, 95% CI: 1.0001–1.0007, P = 0.0116). However, testosterone had no significant association with other cancers. Conclusion: This study investigated the role of testosterone in the development of prostate cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, and small intestine cancer but found no strong association with the other cancers in men. In recent years, novel magnifying lenses have generated much attention, not only because of their intriguing physics but also for their ability to achieve real‐time super‐resolution imaging. However, these super‐resolution magnifying lenses have been limited to virtual imaging and narrow band hindering the practical applications of magnifying lens. Here, a method is proposed to design a real‐imaging magnifying lens with ultrabroadband super‐resolution real‐time imaging capability based on conformal transformation optics. As a proof of concept, a two dimensional (2D) magnifying lens is designed, and its ability of ultrabroadband real imaging (working bandwidth of 104% of central frequency) with sub‐diffraction resolution in the microwave region is experimentally verified. It is found that the designed 2D magnifying lens has good robustness of fabrication errors, which provides more flexibility for practical applications. Furthermore, a three dimensional (3D) magnifying lens is designed by rotating the 2D magnifying lens along its symmetric axis. The 3D magnifying lens also maintains excellent imaging performance consistent with the one of 2D magnifying lens. Both 2D and 3D magnifying lenses can be integrated into conventional microscopes, expanding their capabilities for color super‐resolution magnified real imaging and opening a new realm in ultrabroadband super‐resolution real imaging. Background: Breast cancer and lung cancer are the top two malignancies in the female population and the number of patients with breast cancer and subsequent primary lung cancer has increased significantly in recent years. However, the unique molecular characteristics of this group of patients remains unclear.Purpose: To identify the genomic and transcriptome characteristics of primary lung adenocarcinoma patients with previous breast cancer by comparison with single primary lung adenocarcinoma (SPLA) patients.Methods: The tumor and normal pulmonary tissue specimens of ten primary pulmonary adenocarcinoma patients with previous breast cancer (multiple primary cancer, MPC) and ten SPLA patients were prospectively collected. The whole exome sequencing (WES) and RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) were performed to analyze the gene mutation and expression differences between MPC and SPC patients.Results: The results of WES indicated that the mutations of TRIM73, DLX6 and CNGB1 only existed in MPC patients. The results of RNA-seq manifested the occurrence of second primary lung adenocarcinoma in breast cancer patients was closely associated with cytokine-cytokine receptor action, autophagy, PI3L-Akt, cAMP and calcium ion signaling pathways. Besides, the expression levels of FGF10 and VEGFA genes were significantly increased in MPC patients.Conclusion: The occurrence of second primary lung adenocarcinoma may be related to the cytokine-cytokine receptor action, autophagy, PI3L-Akt, cAMP and calcium ion signaling pathways. Furthermore, the mutations of TRIM73, DLX6 and CNGB1 and high expression of FGF10 and VEGFA might play an important role in the development of lung adenocarcinoma in breast cancer patients. We aimed to examine the longitudinal association between frailty and cognitive impairment in the older Chinese population. This prospective cohort study used data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Study 2011 wave. We calculated the follow-up duration as 3 years from the baseline year. Frailty was measured using the frailty index, and cognitive function was calculated by Mini-Mental State Examination Scale. Participants who were non-frailty and those with normal cognitive function were included in 2011 and followed up in 2014, respectively. Frailty was an independent risk factor for early-onset cognitive impairment. Age, hearing impairment, and a decreased ability to perform daily activities were the main risk factors for cognitive impairment, while affluent economic status was a protective factor. Cognitive impairment was not found to be an independent risk factor for frailty. Studies have shown that organophosphate pesticides (OPs) exposure may disrupt thyroid endocrine functions in animal models, agricultural population, occupational workers, and work-related population. However, the relationships between OPs exposure and thyroid hormone levels in the general population are unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationships of OPs exposure with thyroid hormone and antibody levels in the general population. We analyzed a sample of 1089 US adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001–2002. OPs exposure was estimated using measures of six non-specific dialkyl phosphate metabolites (DAPs), e.g., dimethylphosphate (DMP). Multiple linear regression models were used to examine the associations of OPs exposure with thyroid hormone and antibody levels. The medians of urinary ∑DAPs detected in males and females were 32.98 nmol/g creatinine and 40.77 nmol/g creatinine, with statistical significance (p = 0.001). After controlling for sociodemographic factors, we found that concentrations of urinary OPs metabolites were positively associated with the serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in the general US population, particularly in males; OPs metabolites were associated with the serum TgAb, tT3, fT3, and TSH. These findings showed that thyroid hormone and antibody disruption are probably associated with OPs exposure in the general population; more studies are needed to confirm our findings. This study examined the effects of different additives on the fermentation quality, nutrient composition, microbial communities, and rumen degradation of ensiled alfalfa. Six treatments were employed in which additives were applied to alfalfa on a fresh weight basis: CK (no additive), FA (0.6% formic acid), CaO (3% calcium oxide and 3% urea), LB (1 × 106 cfu/g Lentilactobacillus buchneri), GLB (2% glucose and 1 × 106 cfu/g L. buchneri), and FLB (2% fucoidan and 1 × 106 cfu/g L. buchneri). After 60 days of ensiling, all treatments altered the bacterial communities, improved the fermentation quality, reduced dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP) losses, and enhanced the rumen degradation of nutrients. The addition of LB increased the relative abundance of Lactobacillus spp. (p < 0.05), whereas GLB reduced (p < 0.05) the NH3-N:TN ratio and elevated (p < 0.05) the concentrations of Lactobacillus and lactic acid content. The FA treatment reduced (p < 0.05) the pH, as well as the DM and CP degradations, while the CaO treatment increased the degradations of DM, acid detergent fiber, and neutral detergent fiber. We concluded that FA, LB, GLB, and FLB had beneficial effects on alfalfa fermentation, and that CaO increased alfalfa silage rumen degradation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Granular base material (GBM) is widely used as the base/subbase course of pavement structure. In the mechanic–empirical design of flexible pavement, both the resilient modulus and permanent deformation are the major deformation properties of base materials, related to early-stage distresses of the surface layer under traffic loading. However, since the microscopic interaction between aggregates of the GBM is quite complex, the deformation behavior was not to be understood merely empirically. This study aims to evaluate the macroscopic and microscopic behavior of the GBM under repeated load triaxial (RLT) testing by the discrete-element method. Both the size gradation and the aggregate shape were considered in numerical simulations. The modeling technology of a heterogeneous structure was developed and verified by laboratory results. The results showed that the resilient modulus measured by the developed simulation was in good agreement with that of laboratory tests, within errors of 5.0%. The deformation behavior of the GBM presents the stress-hardening characteristic that the resilient modulus of the GBM increases from 94.03 to 337.71 MPa with the growth of the volume stress and deviator stress. The microstructure of the GBM maintain a relatively stabilization in dynamic response and anisotropy changes during the cyclic loading and voids within aggregates play a role in buffering the change in internal stress. The principal contact normal trends to the direction of maximum bulk stress through small motions, and rotations of aggregates during the loading. The sustainable performance of asphalt pavement depends on the quality and mix design of road aggregates. Identifying aggregate morphology and size is a prerequisite step for material design and numerical modeling of asphalt mixtures. The paper aims to review the morphometric measurement, characteristic parameters and visualization technique of road aggregates. Types, calculation methods and advantages of aggregate morphological characteristics are highlighted. The applications of aggregate morphological features on the volumetric design, compaction processes, mechanical properties and size effect of asphalt mixtures are summarized. Although digital image processing technology has been studied for years, aggregates in the complex accumulation are still difficult to measure accurately. In the current research, the morphological parameters of aggregates remain diverse without a standard protocol. Compared to theoretical models, numerical models have more difficulties establishing irregular morphology features in the simulated specimens but provide a volume parameter closer to the real value. The future investigation of road performance under dynamic loading should account for the microscopic evolution of shape, orientation and distribution of aggregates over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
