Objective: We studied the presence of psychological stress in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and if could be attributed to the consumption of a pro-inflammatory diet. We evaluated the inflammatory potential of the habitual Mexican diet, addressed by tools with an approach to collecting information on e-Health. Methods: In this cross-sectional analytic study of 238 Mexican adults with T2D, the profile of the inflammatory diet was obtained by the Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII), and the presence of psychological stress by the Diabetes Distress Scale-17 (DSS) was assessed. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the association between diabetes stress and DII score. Sensitivity analysis was performed by Energy–Density Dietary Inflammatory Index (E-DII). Results: We demonstrated that there is an association between a profile of stress and high-inflammatory values of the DII score after adjustment for potential confounders (OR 2.40, 95% CI 1.2, 4.6). Conclusion: Using e-Health through web-based tools to collect information showed benefits of the application as a method of dietary assessment. We provide evidence showing that better values of the DII score and physical activity may play a protective role against the presence of psychological stress; DII and E-DII scores qualify and label habitual diet into pro and anti-inflammatory and are associated with psychological stress in T2D. Simple Summary: In this study, we compared the effectiveness of two anesthetics, eugenol and tricaine methanesulfonate (MS-222), in consecutive administrations on zebrafish. We evaluated zebrafish behaviour after repeated anesthesia. Eugenol induced anesthesia more quickly than MS-222 but had longer recovery times. Additionally, swimming frequency decreased after eugenol anesthesia. The buffered version of MS-222 was more effective than the non-buffered one. We recommend using buffered MS-222 for studies requiring repeated, brief-duration anesthesia. The increasing use of the zebrafish (Danio rerio) in scientific experiments has made it necessary to implement anesthesia protocols guaranteeing minimum pain and suffering for these animals and ensuring the reliability of the results obtained from their research. Therefore, we aimed to compare the effectiveness of two anesthetics, eugenol and MS-222, in consecutive administrations and evaluate the zebrafish behaviour after repeated anesthesia. Thus, several zebrafish were anaesthetized with eugenol, MS-222, and buffered MS-222 three times repeatedly with a 24-h interval between each exposure. The induction and recovery periods were also timed. Their swimming frequency was determined after each exposure to assess their behaviour after the anesthesia. Anesthesia induction was quicker with eugenol compared to MS-222. However, eugenol presented longer recovery times, which were prolonged after each exposure. Also, the swimming frequency was reduced after each anesthesia with eugenol. The buffered version of MS-222 was more efficacious than the non-buffered one. Both versions of MS-222 did not affect the swimming frequency. Based on these findings, we recommend the utilization of MS-222 buffered rather than eugenol when repeated, brief-duration anesthesia is necessitated for a study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Hayes-Wheelwright Product-Process Matrix (PPM) has historically been a pivotal tool in manufacturing, guiding firms to strategically align product volume and variety with the most optimal production process. Delving into its developmental journey, this research thoroughly examines the PPM's evolution through the industrial eras. From the outset of Industry 2.0, marked by the adoption of Flexible Manufacturing Systems prioritizing mass customization, to the inception of Industry 4.0, characterized by a seamless integration of digital and physical systems with a pronounced focus on tailored products, the matrix has consistently adapted. The main findings of this work underline the imperative to reconceptualize the PPM within the context of Industry 5.0. Building on this foundation, a new model is here proposed to represent the PPM matrix in the Industry 5.0 environment that incorporates creative and technological innovation and the concept of sustainability. This entails a fusion of cutting-edge technological developments, urgent sustainability considerations, and the unyielding deep human insights. The proposed matrix (PPM 5.0) maps each product to the most suitable production process and guides companies in selecting processes that align with sustainable objectives. Furthermore, it provides a flexible foundation designed to readily adapt to evolving market demands, technological advancements, and emerging trends in manufacturing, offering substantial benefits to practitioners and business owners in their strategic design decisions and technology investments. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) reports that Latin America and the Caribbean experienced the most rapid rise in food insecurity, with approximately 47.7 million individuals in the region affected by hunger in 2022. In Chile, almost three million people, 15.6% of the country's population, do not have regular access to sufficient nutritious food and suffer from some form of food insecurity. Moreover, Chile is particularly susceptible to the impacts of climate change and contends with the depletion of several critical natural resources, notably water, stemming from severe and prolonged drought conditions. This article aims to comprehensively evaluate food loss and waste (FLW) in Chile and analyzes the implications of FLW on the sustainable development goal (SDG). This will be achieved by utilizing a top-down mass balance methodology that integrates various data sources and an in-depth analysis of the main food categories at different stages of the food supply chain (FSC). In 2021, Chile generated 5.18 million tons of FLW, with fruit being the largest contributor at 2.5 million tons (48% of total FLW). Vegetables accounted for 0.8 million tons (16%). Other food groups each contributed 1% to 10% of the total FLW. Per capita FLW was 295 kg. FLW varied by food group and FSC stage. Fruits, vegetables, starchy roots, and pulses had the most FLW early in the FSC, while cereals had it later. Comparing FLW with the domestic supply quantity of food, it is observed that 68% of the fruit available for the population was discarded. Vegetables and starchy roots also showed significant volumes of discarded food, with 48% and 29% of the availability of these products in Chile. Furthermore, we explore the implications of FLW on realizing SDG 2—zero hunger, particularly emphasizing its correlation with target 12.3. The research underscores the potential of its findings to significantly shape public policies and strategies concerning FLW and their alignment with the associated SDGs, making a tangible impact on the lives of millions. DENOVA-score is useful to stratify the risk of infective endocarditis (IE) in Enterococcus faecalis bacteremia. Recently, time to positive (TTP) of blood cultures has also been related with a higher risk of IE. The objective was to evaluate DENOVA- score with TTP to improve its specificity. We performed a retrospective, case–control study in adult patients with E. faecalis bacteremia. Thirty-nine patients with definite E. faecalis IE and 82 with E. faecalis bacteremia were included. Biobanks are infrastructures essential for research involving multi-disciplinary teams and an increasing number of stakeholders. In the field of personalized medicine, biobanks play a key role through the provision of well-characterized and annotated samples protecting at the same time the right of donors. The Andalusian Public Health System Biobank (SSPA Biobank) has implemented a global information management system made up of different modules that allow for the recording, traceability and monitoring of all the information associated with the biobank operations. The data model, designed in a standardized and normalized way according to international initiatives on data harmonization, integrates the information necessary to guarantee the quality of results from research, benefiting researchers, clinicians and donors. Background: Stroke is a leading cause of disability, especially due to an increased fall risk and postural instability. The objective of this study was to analyze the impact of motor impairment in the hemiparetic UE on static balance in standing, in subject with chronic stroke. Methods: Seventy adults with chronic stroke, capable of independent standing and walking, participated in this cross-sectional study. The exclusion criteria included vestibular, cerebellar, or posterior cord lesions. The participants were classified based on their UE impairment using the Fugl-Meyer Assessment of Motor Recovery after Stroke (FMA-UE). A posturographic evaluation (mCTSIB) was performed in the standing position to analyze the center of pressure (COP) displacement in the mediolateral (ML) and anteroposterior (AP) axes and its mean speed with eyes open (OE) and closed (EC) on stable and unstable surfaces. Results: A strong and significant correlation (r = −0.53; p < 0.001) was observed between the mediolateral (ML) center of pressure (COP) oscillation and the FMA-UE, which was particularly strong with eyes closed [r(EO) = 0.5; r(EC) = 0.54]. The results of the multiple linear regression analysis indicated that the ML oscillation is influenced significantly by the FMA-Motor, and specifically by the sections on UE, wrist, coordination/speed, and sensation. Conclusions: The hemiparetic UE motor capacity is strongly related to the ML COP oscillation during standing in individuals with chronic stroke, with a lower motor capacity associated with a greater instability. Background: Mandibular defects resulting from oncological treatment pose significant aesthetic and functional challenges due to the involvement of bone and soft tissues. Immediate reconstruction is crucial to address complications such as malocclusion, mandibular deviation, temporomandibular joint (TMJ) changes, and soft tissue retraction. These issues can lead to functional impairments, including difficulties in chewing, swallowing, and speech. The fibula flap is widely used for mandibular reconstruction due to its long bone segment and robust vascular supply, though it may not always provide adequate bone height for optimal dental rehabilitation. This systematic review aims to determine if the double-barreled fibula flap (DBFF) configuration is a viable alternative for mandibular reconstruction and to evaluate the outcomes of dental implants placed in this type of flap. Materials and Methods: This study adhered to the Cochrane Collaboration criteria and PRISMA guidelines and was registered on the International Platform of Registered Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols Database (INPLASY2023120026). We included clinical studies published in English, Spanish, or French that focused on adult patients undergoing segmental mandibulectomy followed by DBFF reconstruction and dental rehabilitation. Data sources included Medline/PubMed, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Scopus, and manual searches. Two reviewers independently screened and selected studies, with discrepancies resolved by a third reviewer. Data extraction captured variables such as publication year, patient demographics, number of implants, follow-up duration, flap survival, implant failure, and aesthetic outcomes. The risk of bias was assessed using the JBI appraisal tool, and the certainty of evidence was evaluated using the GRADE approach. Results: A total of 17 clinical studies were included, evaluating 245 patients and 402 dental implants. The average patient age was 43.7 years, with a mean follow-up period of 34.3 months. Flap survival was high, with a 98.3% success rate and only four flap losses. The implant failure rate was low at 1.74%. Esthetic outcomes were varied, with only three studies using standardized protocols for evaluation. The overall certainty of evidence for flap survival was moderate, low for implant failure, and very low for aesthetics due to the subjective nature of assessments and variability in reporting. Conclusions: The primary limitations of the evidence included in this review are the observational design of the studies, leading to an inherent risk of bias, inconsistency in reporting methods, and imprecision in outcome measures. Additionally, the subjective nature of aesthetic evaluations and the variability in assessment tools further limit the reliability of the findings. The DBFF technique demonstrates excellent outcomes for mandibular reconstruction, with high flap survival and low implant failure rates, making it a viable option for dental rehabilitation. However, the evidence for aesthetic outcomes is less certain, highlighting the need for more rigorous and standardized research. This review supports the DBFF as a good alternative for mandibular reconstruction with successful dental implant integration, although further studies are needed to enhance the reliability of aesthetic evaluations. Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a common cause of death in hospitalized patients. These emboli are usually related to deep venous thrombosis, but other etiologic factors may be the cause. A 60-year-old male was diagnosed with rectal adenocarcinoma and treated by surgical rectal resection. After surgery, he presented with a decreased level of consciousness and hypoxia with no signs of bleeding. PE was ruled out by pulmonary angiography. Given the hemodynamic instability, contrast-enhanced CT was performed, showing a discrete leak related to the rectal anastomosis, which required urgent surgery. The patient suffered cardiorespiratory arrest prior to surgery, and once resolved, the surgical procedure was limited to disconnecting the intestinal anastomosis, leaving the colon and rectal stumps free in the abdomen and keeping the abdominal cavity open with negative-pressure therapy. The patient suffered from another cardiorespiratory arrest after surgery, with abdominal distension and serous-hemorrhagic material discharge through the negative-pressure device. On a new surgical revision, no bleeding was identified, so the symptoms were attributed to coagulopathy. The patient died and autopsy was performed. The autopsy revealed no surgery-related complications. The lungs were increased in weight and showed a normal macroscopic appearance; in contrast, the histological study revealed multiple and bilateral thrombo-embolisms affecting small distal arteries. Those thrombi were composed of intestinal contents, including vegetal particles, mucinous and biliary material, fibrin, and bacterial structures. Fecal PE is an extremely infrequent event. Isolated cases have been described in association with communications between the digestive tract lumen and the systemic circulation, with a generally fatal prognosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Melatonin (MLT), a natural compound found in the animal and vegetable kingdom, participates in several physiological processes. MLT exerts antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, among others, but information about its action on lipid metabolism is still scarce. For this reason, mice deficient in apolipoprotein E (ApoE−/−) fed a Western diet (WD) were intragastrically treated with different concentrations of MLT (2 and 9 mg/kg) for 12 weeks. The lipid parameters were quantified, and, since links between cardiovascular risk and immune function and oxidative stress have been established, we also analyzed the population of leukocytes and the oxidative stress status. Although there was no change in the weight of the mice, a significant reduction in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was observed in mice treated with the higher concentration of MLT tested in this study. Additionally, an improvement in cardiovascular risk indexes was observed. A reduction in the hepatic total cholesterol (TC) and LDL-C levels was also observed in the treated mice. Finally, a decrease in leukocytes and lymphocytes in particular, as well as an increase in the antioxidant status, were shown in MLT-treated mice. Aspergillus fumigatus and Fusarium solani infections have become severe health threat; both pathogens are considered a priority due to the increasing emergence of antifungal-resistant strains and high mortality rates. Therefore, the discovery of new therapeutic strategies has become crucial. In this study, we evaluated the antifungal and antivirulence effects of vanillin and tannic acid against Aspergillus fumigatus and Fusarium solani. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of the compounds were determined by the microdilution method in RPMI broth in 96-well microplates according to CLSI. Conidial germination, protease production, biofilm formation, and in vivo therapeutic efficacy assays were performed. The results demonstrated that vanillin and tannic acid had antifungal activity against Aspergillus fumigatus, while tannic acid only exhibited antifungal activity against Fusarium solani. We found that vanillin and tannic acid inhibited conidial germination and secreted protease production and biofilm formation of the fungal pathogens using sub-inhibitory concentrations. Besides, vanillin and tannic acid altered the fungal membrane permeability, and both compounds showed therapeutic effect against aspergillosis and fusariosis in an infection model in Galleria mellonella larvae. Our results highlight the antivirulence effect of vanillin and tannic acid against priority pathogenic fungi as a possible therapeutic alternative for human fungal infections. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Rare earth elements are a group of chemicals widely utilized in industry, leading to ecosystem contamination. Due to the lack of regulatory measures, there exists a considerable gap in knowledge concerning their potential to induce adverse effects in organisms. Zebrafish serve as a species utilized in evaluating the risk of potentially toxic substances in the aquatic ecosystem. Our objective was to evaluate the acute toxicity in zebrafish embryos induced by two of the most used rare earth elements, neodymium, categorized as a light element, and yttrium, as a heavy element. We followed OECD guideline n°. 236 "Fish Embryo Acute Toxicity Test", exposing embryos to concentrations of 6.4, 16, 40, 100, and 250 mg/L, and calculated the LC50. Our study revealed comparable LC50 values for both elements (55.58 mg/L for Nd, and 45.61 mg/L for Y), suggesting a probable similarity in toxicity. Aims. (i) To evaluate the scope and quality of nurse-patient interactions recorded in the clinical notes of inpatient mental health units and (ii) to identify nursing interventions recorded in the context of the nurse-patient relationship in the clinical notes of inpatient mental health units. Design. A multimethod approach was use. Methods. Employing a quantitative cross-sectional design for the first aim, and a qualitative content analysis design of secondary data for the second aim. In total, 1,714 clinical notes were examined from 44 randomly selected patients who were hospitalized in five mental health units over the years 2022-2023. Results. The patient's experience of the interaction was present in 69.9% (n = 1,198) of the notes. However, only 12.0% (n = 205) of the notes reached a sufficient standard of quality in terms of describing the nurse-patient interactions. Specifically, more than half of the notes did not reflect any type of nursing intervention (n = 723; 60.4%). Thirty interventions compatible with the nursing intervention classification were identified, of which more than 70% corresponded to domains in the physiological area. Conclusion. This study shows that the quantity and scope of patients' clinical notes in mental health units do not sufficiently reflect the interventions performed by nurses, nor the quality or impact of these interventions in the context of the nurse-patient therapeutic relationship. Implications for the Profession and/or Patient Care. Improving the quality of clinical notes by integrating interventions and their impact can increase the quality of nursing care. Impact. The use of standardized nursing terminologies would contribute to the understanding of the extent and quality of nurse-patient interactions recorded in clinical notes. Thus, standardized documentation would also help to improve these interactions and their recording, which will facilitate decision-making. Reporting Method. This article summarizes a study on the use of CAR-T therapy in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The study found that patients who had B-cell recovery after CAR-T therapy had a higher rate of complete response (CR) compared to those who did not. The study also identified certain factors, such as disease status prior to apheresis and the number of CAR-T cells, as predictors for CR. The results emphasize the importance of monitoring CAR-T cells and disease status to identify patients at risk of treatment failure. Background: Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare peritoneal mucinous carcinomatosis with largely unknown underlying molecular mechanisms. Cytoreductive surgery combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy is the only therapeutic option; however, despite its use, recurrence with a fatal outcome is common. The lack of molecular characterisation of PMP and other mucinous tumours is mainly due to the physicochemical properties of mucin. Results: This manuscript describes the first protocol capable of breaking the mucin barrier and isolating proteins from mucinous tumours. Briefly, mucinous tumour samples were homogenised and subjected to liquid chromatography using two specific columns to reduce mainly glycoproteins, albumins and immunoglobulin G. The protein fractions were then subjected to mass spectrometry analysis and the proteomic profile obtained was analysed using various bioinformatic tools. Thus, we present here the first proteome analysed in PMP and identified a distinct mucin isoform profile in soft compared to hard mucin tumour tissues as well as key biological processes/pathways altered in mucinous tumours. Importantly, this protocol also allowed us to identify MUC13 as a potential tumour cell marker in PMP. Conclusions: In sum, our results demonstrate that this protein isolation protocol from mucin will have a high impact, allowing the oncology research community to more rapidly advance in the knowledge of PMP and other mucinous neoplasms, as well as develop new and effective therapeutic strategies. The estimation of galactic component masses can be carried out through various approaches that involve a host of assumptions about baryon dynamics or the dark matter model. In contrast, this work introduces an alternative method for predicting the masses of the disk, bulge, stellar, and total mass using the k-nearest neighbours, linear regression, random forest, and neural network (NN) algorithms, reducing the dependence on any particular hypothesis. The ugriz photometric system was selected as the set of input features, and the training was performed using spiral galaxies in Guo's mock catalogue from the Millennium simulation. In general, all of the algorithms provide good predictions for the galaxy's mass from 10 9   M ⊙ to 10 11   M ⊙ , corresponding to the central region of the training domain. The NN algorithm showed the best performance. To validate the algorithm, we used the SDSS survey and found that the predictions of disk-dominant galaxies' masses lie within a 99 % confidence level, while galaxies with larger bulges are predicted at a 95 % confidence level. The NN also reveals scaling relations between mass components and magnitudes. However, predictions for less luminous galaxies are biased due to observational limitations. Our study demonstrates the efficacy of these methods with the potential for further enhancement through the addition of observational data or galactic dynamics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study examines the direct and interaction relationships between personality traits, psychosocial risk factors, and burnout among male and female workers in the retail sector in Spain. Through a cross sectional design involving 667 participants (241 men, 426 women), it employs self report questionnaires to measure these variables. In addition to a sociodemographic questionnaire, the MBI (burnout), NEO-FFI (personality), CarMen-Q (cognitive, temporal, emotional, and performance demands), and DECORE (support, control, and rewards) were administered. Results indicate that women exhibit higher emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Results from stepwise multiple regression confirmed that personality traits directly impact burnout dimensions and psychosocial risk factors. Specifically, neuroticism and emotional job demands significantly influence emotional exhaustion, while depersonalization correlates with neuroticism, agreeableness, temporal demands, and organizational support. Personal accomplishment links with extraversion, interacting with temporal demands in men and cognitive demands in women. Individuals high in neuroticism and low in extraversion tend to perceive elevated emotional job demands, leading to intensified emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. Background: Most patients suffering from Leber hereditary optic neuropathy carry one of the three classic pathologic mutations, but not all individuals with these genetic alterations develop the disease. There are different risk factors that modify the penetrance of these mutations. The remaining patients carry one of a set of very rare genetic variants and, it appears that, some of the risk factors that modify the penetrance of the classical pathologic mutations may also affect the phenotype of these other rare mutations. Results: We describe a large family including 95 maternally related individuals, showing 30 patients with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy. The mutation responsible for the phenotype is a novel transition, m.3734A > G, in the mitochondrial gene encoding the ND1 subunit of respiratory complex I. Molecular-genetic, biochemical and cellular studies corroborate the pathogenicity of this genetic change. Conclusions: With the study of this family, we confirm that, also for this very rare mutation, sex and age are important factors modifying penetrance. Background: Microorganisms can transform phosphorus (P)-enriched iron (Fe)-oxide sludge into products with higher P concentration or can directly promote the precipitation of P-rich compounds from water. However, there is no evidence of these products' efficiency as fertilizers. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of microbially mediated vivianite (biovivianite) as P and Fe fertilizer for durum wheat and white lupin, respectively. Results: To this end, two completely randomized block experiments were conducted with wheat (phosphorus (P) experiment) and white lupin (iron (Fe) experiment). The P and Fe sources used included biovivianite produced by microbial reduction of P-containing ferrihydrite at pH 6.5 (VivInsol6.5) and pH 7.0 (VivInsol7.0), biovivianite produced with soluble Fe(III) citrate (C6H5FeO7) in the presence of soluble phosphate at pH 7 (VivSol), and vivianite from a commercial company (ComViv). Potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) was used as a reference fertilizer in the P experiment, and Fe-EDDHA and Fe(II)-sulfate (FeSO4.7H2O) were used in the Fe experiment. Total P uptake by wheat plants from the product dominated by vivianite and phosphate-green rust (VivSol) was not significantly different from KH2PO4. The relative P use efficiency, i.e., the equivalence in terms of P recovery of VivSol was 74% of KH2PO4, making VivSol the effective P source for durum wheat among the products tested (aside from KH2PO4). For Fe uptake, product dominated by vivianite and metavivianite (VivInsol7.0), was the most effective Fe source for white lupin followed by Fe-EDDHA, ComViv, and VivSol with VivInsol6.5 as the least effective but without significant differences with Fe(II)-sulfate. The average crystallite sizes of the biovivianite were 59 nm, 63 nm, and 66 nm for VivSol, VivInsol7.0, and VivInsol6.5, respectively. Conclusions: The mineral constituents of the biovivianite coupled with their nano-crystallite sizes explained its effectiveness as P and Fe fertilizers. The results reveal that biovivianite production is a novel way of producing efficient P and Fe fertilizers from P-enriched Fe sludge or P-rich water. Thus, it can be used for producing fertilizers with high P and Fe concentrations from water purification, providing new tools for a circular economy approach in the use of a non-renewable resource such as P. Highlights: Vivianite is a sink for phosphorus (P), a scarce and non-renewable resource. Microbially mediated vivianite (biovivianite) was tested as P and Fe fertilizer on wheat and lupin. The aim of this article is to explain the syntactic competition found in the complementation of Old English Prevent verbs. The competition on argumenthood involves linked verbal predications and linked nominal predications. Evidence is gathered for continuity both between finite and non-finite linked verbal predications as well as between non-finite and nominalised linked predications. This evidence points to a diachronic development: finite clause > non-finite clause > nominalisation. The main conclusion of the article is that the Interclausal Relation Hierarchy predicts the replacement of the finite clause complementation with non-finite clause complementation in such a way that the syntactically tighter noun phrase involving a deverbal nominalisation constitutes the next step of syntactic development. This study contextualizes the transformative role of Business Intelligence (BI) over the past two decades, emphasizing its impact on business strategy and competitive advantage. Employing a dual-method approach, it integrates a bibliometric analysis using SciMAT with a qualitative examination of six key articles from the Web of Science (WoS), analyzed through the Gioia methodology, focusing on BI and competitiveness. The aim is to examine the metamorphosis of Business Intelligence (BI) and how it has evolved from a traditionally supporting role to a central strategic player in shaping corporate strategy and business competitive advantage over the past two decades. It discusses the overall transformation of BI and provides an in-depth examination of the specific ways in which Business Intelligence tools have redefined the landscape in contemporary business practices. Key findings reveal BI's pivotal role in enhancing knowledge management, innovation, and marketing capabilities. Challenges in BI implementation, such as the necessity for skilled personnel and adaptability to swift technological shifts, are also highlighted. Results advocate for a dynamic BI approach, adaptable to market trends and technological evolutions. The research demonstrates that BI tools, especially when integrated with technologies like AI, IoT, and machine learning, significantly enhances decision making and efficiency in socio–technical and management systems, leading to a paradigm shift in handling complex systems and adapting to changing environments. Endothelial injury, inflammatory infiltrate and fibrosis are the predominant lesions in the testis of bulls with besnoitiosis that may result in sterility. Moreover, fibroblasts, which are key players in fibrosis, are parasite target cells in a Besnoitia besnoiti chronic infection. This study aimed to decipher the molecular basis that underlies a drift toward fibrosis during the disease progression. Transcriptomic analysis was developed at two times post-infection (p.i.), representative of invasion (12 h p.i.) and intracellular proliferation (32 h p.i.), in primary bovine aorta fibroblasts infected with B. besnoiti tachyzoites. Once the enriched host pathways were identified, we studied the expression of selected differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in the scrotal skin of sterile infected bulls. Functional enrichment analyses of DEGs revealed shared hallmarks of cancer and early fibrosis. Biomarkers of inflammation, angiogenesis, cancer, and MAPK signaling stood out at 12 h p.i. At 32 h p.i., again MAPK and cancer pathways were enriched together with the PI3K–AKT pathway related to cell proliferation. Some DEGs were also regulated in the skin samples of naturally infected bulls (PLAUR, TGFβ1, FOSB). The therapeutic relationship (TR) is essential in mental health nursing care and plays a fundamental role in the understanding and treatment of the patient's health status. Despite being a bidirectional construct, limited evidence is available to shed light on this issue in mental health units and even less so in the first days of admission. This study aimed to examine the association and differences between nurses' and patients' perspectives on the establishment of the therapeutic relationship in acute mental health units during the first days of hospitalization. A cross‐sectional study was carried out in 12 Spanish mental health units. Data were collected from patients and nurses using the Working Alliance Inventory‐Short (WAI‐S) questionnaire. A total of 234 cases were analysed, including 234 patients and 58 nurses. The results showed a positive association between nurses' and patients' perspectives on the therapeutic relationship, but also revealed significant differences on each WAI‐S dimension. Nurses assigned higher scores compared to patients on the perception of the quality of the therapeutic relationship. The dimensions with the greatest weight from the patients' perspective regarding the quality of the therapeutic relationship were the perception of greater agreement on goals and tasks among nurses. This study demonstrates the importance of establishing shared goals and tasks with nurses from the first days of hospitalization to improve the quality of the therapeutic relationship as perceived by patients. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most complex joints in the human anatomy. In advanced degenerative stages, conservative or minimally invasive surgical therapies have failed to restore joint function, and joint replacement with prostheses has been required. Stock prostheses, compared to custom-made prostheses, are much less expensive and require less pre-operative preparation time. Four patients followed for years for temporomandibular dysfunction and previously operated on by arthroscopy or open joint surgery that have been reconstructed with stock TMJ prostheses (STMJP) through virtual surgical planning (VSP) and an STL model with surgical and positioning guides were included. The median follow-up was 15 months; the median number of previous TMJ surgeries was 2. The mean preoperative MIO was 24.6 mm and at longest follow-up was 36.4 mm. The median preoperative TMJ pain score was 8, and the median postoperative TMJ pain was 3. All patients have improved their mandibular function with a clear improvement of their initial situation. In conclusion, we believe that stock TMJ prostheses with virtual surgical planning and surgical guides are a good alternative for TMJ reconstruction at the present time. Introduction: This scoping review explores the effectiveness of IL-1 pathway inhibitors in managing PSTPIP1-associated inflammatory diseases (PAID). These diseases are marked by abnormal IL-1 pathway activation due to genetic mutations. Methods: Our methodology adhered to a pre-published protocol and involved a thorough search of MEDLINE and EMBASE databases up to February 2022, following the Joanna Briggs Institute Reviewer's Manual and the PRISMA Extension for Scoping Reviews. The review included studies reporting on IL-1 pathway inhibitor use in PAID patients. Results: From an initial pool of 5,225 articles, 36 studies involving 43 patients were selected. The studies predominantly used observational designs and exhibited diversity in patient demographics, treatment approaches, and outcomes. Anakinra and canakinumab demonstrated promise in treating sterile pyogenic arthritis, pyoderma gangrenosum, and acne (PAPA) and PSTPIP1-associated myeloidrelated-proteinemia inflammatory (PAMI) syndromes, with scant data on other syndromes. Notably, there was a paucity of information on the adverse effects of these treatments, necessitating cautious interpretation of their safety profile. Conclusion: Current evidence on IL-1 pathway inhibitors for PAID is primarily from observational studies and remains limited. Rigorous research with larger patient cohorts is imperative for more definitive conclusions. Background: Chronicity and lack of motivation often go together during the upper limb rehabilitation process in stroke. Virtual reality is a useful tool in this context, providing safe, intensive, individualised treatments in a playful environment. B-cost, easy-to-use devices with personalised and motivating games for a specific population seem to be the most effective option in the treatment of the upper limbs. Methods: A randomised clinical study with follow-up was carried out to assess the effectiveness of the Leap Motion Controller® device in improving the functionality of the upper limb in patients with chronic stroke. Patients (n = 36) were randomised into a control group that performed conventional therapy and an experimental group that combined the virtual reality protocol with conventional therapy. The outcome measures used were grip strength; the Block and Box Test; the Action Research Arm Test; the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand; as well as a Technology Satisfaction Questionnaire and adherence to treatment. Results: Inter-group statistical analysis showed no significant differences except in subsection D of the Action Research Arm Test. Intra-group analysis showed significant differences in both groups, but the experimental group reached significance in all long-term variables. Satisfaction and adherence levels were very high. Conclusions: The Leap Motion Controller® system, as a complementary tool, produces improvements in grip strength, dexterity and motor function in patients with chronic stroke. This study formulates a mathematical dynamic Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model within a rational expectations framework, adhering to neo-classical principles. It emphasizes the significant role of agents' expectations in determining the broader economic trajectory over time. The model combines microeconomic and macroeconomic perspectives by merging the concept of intertemporal choice with savings behavior. Its mathematical foundations are derived and calibrated using data from a social accounting matrix to enhance its simulation capabilities. The paper presents a practical simulation investigating the economic implications of a strategic investment impact within an specific European region, Madrid as the case of study. Such demand shock affects sectors such as electronics, food, pharmaceuticals, and education. The study models the long-term effects of heightened investment and persistent demand-side shocks. The research demonstrates the CGE model's ability to forecast economic shifts toward a new equilibrium after an investment shock, proving its utility for assessing the impacts of extensive environmental policies within a European context. Comparative extinction risk analysis—which predicts species extinction risk from correlation with traits or geographical characteristics—has gained research attention as a promising tool to support extinction risk assessment in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. However, its uptake has been very limited so far, possibly because existing models only predict a species' Red List category, without indicating which Red List criteria may be triggered. This prevents such approaches to be integrated into Red List assessments. We overcome this implementation gap by developing models that predict the probability of species meeting individual Red List criteria. Using data on the world's birds, we evaluated the predictive performance of our criterion‐specific models and compared it with the typical criterion‐blind modelling approach. We compiled data on biological traits (e.g. range size, clutch size) and external drivers (e.g. change in canopy cover) often associated with extinction risk. For each specific criterion, we modelled the relationship between extinction risk predictors and species' Red List category under that criterion using ordinal regression models. We found criterion‐specific models were better at identifying threatened species compared to a criterion‐blind model (higher sensitivity), but less good at identifying not threatened species (lower specificity). As expected, different covariates were important for predicting extinction risk under different criteria. Change in annual temperature was important for criteria related to population trends, while high forest dependency was important for criteria related to restricted area of occupancy or small population size. Our criteria‐specific method can support Red List assessors by producing outputs that identify species likely to meet specific criteria, and which are the most important predictors. These species can then be prioritised for re‐evaluation. We expect this new approach to increase the uptake of extinction risk models in Red List assessments, bridging a long‐standing research‐implementation gap. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a rare disease characterized by a massive accumulation of mucus in the peritoneal cavity. The only effective treatment is aggressive surgery, aimed at removing all visible tumors. However, a high percentage of patients relapse, with subsequent progression and death. Recently, there has been an increase in therapies that target mutated oncogenic proteins. In this sense, KRAS has been reported to be highly mutated in PMP, with KRASG12D being the most common subtype. Here, we tested the efficacy of a small-molecule KRASG12D inhibitor, MRTX1133, in a high-grade PMP xenograft mouse model carrying a KRASG12D mutation. The results obtained in this work showed a profound inhibition of tumor growth, which was associated with a reduction in cell proliferation, an increase in apoptosis, and a reduction in the MAPK and PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathways. In conclusion, these results demonstrate the high potency and efficacy of MRTX1133 in KRASG12D-PMP tumors and provide a rationale for clinical trials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
