The concept of human dignity postulates that every individual inherently possesses intrinsic worth. This means that upholding human dignity demands an end to war and violence. Rooted in Catholic social teachings, human life is sacred, and the dignity of the human being is the foundation of a moral vision for society. This becomes instrumental in educating students about the imperative nature of respect, empathy and compassion towards all, irrespective of sociocultural backgrounds and individual beliefs. Given the profound implications held by the concept of human dignity, through their influence on their students, Catholic educational institutions can wield substantial influence in fostering peacebuilding initiatives and mitigating conflict. This research article presents a comparative study between California and Slovenia, highlighting variations in the autonomy of Catholic high schools in terms of teaching and curriculum development and implementation. Qualitative research into private Catholic high schools in these two states shows that those with greater autonomy tend to foster a more comprehensive grasp of human dignity. These schools also demonstrate students' enhanced ability to swiftly detect violations of human dignity, even when such breaches are not immediately evident. These observations emphasise the crucial role Catholic educational settings thereby play in the realm of peacebuilding and conflict deterrence, underscoring the need to embed a profound comprehension of human dignity in the educational framework. The article addresses the role played by Catholic schools in promoting human dignity among young people. This is a study of Catholic/public high schools in Santa Clara County, California, the USA. It involves qualitative research conducted in public and Catholic private high schools. A comparison of the research results for these two school types shows the Catholic private high schools included in the research have a significant impact on both understanding of the concept of human dignity and promoting human dignity among the young students who attend these schools. In this regard, the research results reveal that legislation and thus administration play an important role in promoting human dignity through the education system. The legislative level is thus able to substantially accelerate/impede the efforts of the education system to adapt to not only social dynamics and changes but the prevalent tendencies of individuals, religion and society. The presence of the concept of human dignity has been increasing worldwide and it seems to be a fundamental concept in the democratic societies. The article introduces the meaning of human dignity not only as a philosophical and legal concept but as the common ground of democratic political culture as well. By explaining Kant's theory and emphasizing the existence of the two dimensions of human dignity, it reveals a great significance of human dignity. Focusing on the Slovenian case as an example of post-communist society, the article explains the relevance of relationship between cultural orientations and institutional settings for democratic performance. This article addresses the migrant entrepreneurship in selected Central European regions by focusing on a general social and legislative framework, as well as migrants' own perceptions of their challenges, needs, advantages and future prospects. It is based on the combination of secondary data and fieldwork material referring to the interviews and focus groups. The study shows that entrepreneurship is a successful strategy for effective integration into the host society. Migrant entrepreneurs are facing specific challenges in terms of understanding the legislation and the specifics of the local business environment. They often engage in niche services and production. However, they typically see themselves not as migrants but as entrepreneurs and claim to share the needs with entrepreneurs in general. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The world tourism industry is subject to big changes. A number of tourists traveling steadily grows, resulting in turnover and income. The destinations, that tourists are attracted, to are numerous, and there are also newcomers who arrive to a certain destination for the first time. Nowadays, even some very distant places are on the travellers’ bucket lists. What is more, tourists are looking for authenticity, in terms of which the concept of ethno village proves to be such an example. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate how this kind of tourism is regulated in Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The emphasis will be on the study of specific ethno villages. Methods: Regarding the article, desk analysis will be done. The data were gathered from the world web, from the World Tourism Organisation’s data and from the data gathered from Slovenian and Bosnian national statistical office as well. The Excel was used for the analyses. Two examples of an ethno village are also described. Results: The ethno village as a part of rural tourism offers great opportunities for new work posts but capacities should be used to a greater extent and the problem of seasonality should also be overcome. All the key aims of rural development must be defined by the following strategy: the development of sustainable and efficient agricultural sector, the living standard of the population who lives from agriculture, creation of social and economic conditions in the rural regions; all of it within the National strategy of the rural development. Conclusions: Tourism industry is being developing as a part of modern touristic migration. There are more and more visitors coming overseas or coming from more remote places. Bispecific single-chain antibody constructs specific for human CD3 have been extensively studied for antitumor activity in human xenograft models using severe combined immunodeficient mice supplemented with human T cells. High efficacy at low effector-to-target ratios, independence of T cell costimuli and a potent activation of previously unstimulated polyclonal T cells were identified as hallmarks of this class of bispecific antibodies. Here we studied a bispecific single-chain antibody construct (referred to as ‘bispecific T cell engager’, BiTE) in an immunocompetent mouse model. This was possible by the use of a murine CD3-specific BiTE, and a syngeneic melanoma cell line (B16F10) expressing the human Ep-CAM target. The murine CD3-specific BiTE, called 2C11x4-7 prevented in a dose-dependent fashion the outgrowth of subcutaneously growing B16/Ep-CAM tumors with daily i.v. injections of 5 or 50 μg BiTE which was most effective. Treatment with 2C11x4-7 was effective even when it was started 10 days after tumor cell inoculation but delayed treatments showed a reduction in the number of cured animals. 2C11x4-7 was also highly active in a lung tumor colony model. When treatment was started on the day of intravenous tumor cell injection, seven out of eight animals stayed free of lung tumors, and three out of eight animals when treatment was started on day 5. Our study shows that BiTEs also have a high antitumor activity in immunocompetent mice and that there is no obvious need for costimulation of T cells by secondary agents. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The relative contributions of different types of antigen presenting cells to T-cell activation, expansion and induction of effector functions are still not fully understood. In order to evaluate the roles of dendritic versus B cells during these phases of a CD4 T-cell response in vivo, we adoptively transferred major histocompatibility complex class II restricted, T-cell receptor-transgenic CD4+ T cells into transgenic mice expressing selectively the T-cell restricting class II molecules on either dendritic cells, B cells or both. Upon immunization with peptide antigen, we observed that dendritic cells were sufficient to induce activation, expansion, interleukin-2 production and germinal centre migration of antigen-specific T cells, independently of other antigen-presenting cells. In contrast, neither resting nor activated B cells had similar antigen-presenting capacities in vivo. However, in double transgenic mice where both B cells and dendritic cells were capable of presenting antigen, T cells showed increased proliferation, expansion and cytokine production in vivo. Moreover, higher antigen-specific CD4 T-cell numbers accumulated in germinal centres. Our data demonstrate that dendritic cells are sufficient to activate naive CD4 T cells in vivo, but B cells subsequently can enhance CD4 T-cell expansion further. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
