The composition-dependent spin exchange interaction in a perovskite-structured Pb(Fe0.5−xNix)Nb1/2O3 system has been studied to understand its multiferroicity at room-temperature. Special emphasis was paid to the magnetic behavior in terms of magnetic moment, interatomic distance, and atomic ordering because they play a key role in the modulation of magnetic multiferroic behavior. We observed that 10 mol. % Ni incorporation led to multiferroic behavior with considerable ferrimagnetic properties (saturation magnetization of 0.6 emu/g and a coercive field of 20 Oe) coupled with the inherent properties of displacive ferroelectricity (spontaneous polarization of 20 μC/cm2). A subsequent increase in the Ni substitution degree degraded the ferroelectricity due to a phase transition from a non-centrosymmetric rhombohedral to a centrosymmetric cubic system. We have shown that magnetic spins with a pronounced magnetic moment along the [001] direction are ferrimagnetically arranged when the interatomic distance between the magnetic transition metals at the octahedral site is less than 4 Å, resulting in significant magnetic properties The objective of this study is to provide a general methodology for modulating magnetic orders in ferroelectric perovskite oxides. Transferrin, a central player in iron transport, has been recognized not only for its role in binding iron but also for its interaction with other metals, including titanium. This study employs solid-state nanopores to investigate the binding of titanium ions [Ti(IV)] to transferrin in a single-molecule and label-free manner. We demonstrate the novel application of solid-state nanopores for single-molecule discrimination between apo-transferrin (metal-free) and Ti(IV)-transferrin. Despite their similar sizes, Ti(IV)-transferrin exhibits a reduced current drop, attributed to differences in translocation times and filter characteristics. Single-molecule analysis reveals Ti(IV)-transferrin's enhanced stability and faster translocations due to its distinct conformational flexibility compared to apo-transferrin. Furthermore, our study showcases solid-state nanopores as real-time monitors of biochemical reactions, tracking the gradual conversion of apo-transferrin to Ti(IV)-transferrin upon the addition of titanium citrate. This work offers insights into Ti(IV) binding to transferrin, promising applications for single-molecule analysis and expanding our comprehension of metal–protein interactions at the molecular level. Despite the various therapeutic benefits and high tolerance of orally administered silybin, poor water-solubility can be the main restrictive physicochemical feature, which results in low oral bioavailability in the absorption. A milk thistle nanocrystal formulation (HM40) was prepared using a modified wet-milling method. Comprehensive characterization was performed to determine the physical morphology, crystallinity, and physicochemical properties. The long-term stability was evaluated over 24 months. In vitro silybin release was assessed at pH 1.2 for 2 h, followed by pH 6.8 for 4 h. Finally, in vivo pharmacokinetic studies were conducted in rats and healthy human volunteers. HM40 exhibited a nanocrystal structure maintaining crystallinity and enhanced the solubility and dissolution of silybin compared to that of the raw material. The stability over 24 months revealed consistent surface morphology, particle size, silybin content, and solubility. In vitro release profiles indicated a significant increase in the silybin release from HM40. In vivo pharmacokinetic studies demonstrated that HM40 showed 2.61- and 1.51-fold higher oral bioavailability in rats and humans, respectively, than that of the reference capsule. HM40 formulation presents a stable and promising approach for the oral delivery of poorly water-soluble silybin, with the potential for use in pharmaceutical formulations containing milk thistle. Aim: The aim of this study was to compare the clinicopathological and oncological characteristics of sporadic colorectal cancer (CRC) between young and elderly patients without any genetic mutations that cause hereditary CRC. Method: In this cross‐sectional, retrospective study conducted at three tertiary referral hospitals, we enrolled 1599 patients with CRC who underwent surgery between January 2010 and December 2017, including 157 young patients (age ≤ 40 years; yCRC) and 1442 elderly patients (age ≥ 70 years; eCRC). The clinicopathological and oncological outcomes were compared between the two groups. Results: The median age at diagnosis was 37 years in the yCRC group (range 33.0–39.2 years) and 76 years in the eCRC group (range 72.0–79.0 years). The yCRC group did not present with advanced stages at diagnosis compared with the eCRC group, and the distribution of tumour stages was similar between the two groups. Microsatellite instability (MSI) testing revealed no difference in the frequency of tumours with high MSI (7.8% in yCRC, 5.8% in eCRC), and the frequency of mutations in the KRAS, NRAS and BRAF genes was also similar. The 3‐year overall survival was better in the yCRC group than in the eCRC group (97.4% vs. 83.5%, p < 0.001); however, no such difference was observed in cancer‐specific survival. Conclusion: Genetically proven sporadic CRCs did not differ significantly between young and elderly patients in terms of tumour stage, tumour location and various molecular features. The authors develop an attribute-based mixed-membership model of consumers' preference for stockkeeping units in store assortments. The model represents the underlying "topics of interest" that drive shopping behaviors as probability distributions over product attributes. It overcomes several limitations of latent Dirichlet allocation topic models and is particularly useful for making preference predictions in large and frequently changing store assortments. The authors apply the proposed model to investigate topics driving browsing and purchase activities in an online deal marketplace of fashion products and explore how preference structures evolve over time. They find commonalities and differences in the topics that drive the browsing and purchase stages of online shopping processes. In general, browsing covers a broader range of product attributes than purchases. Consumers tend to browse products of premium positioning and/or deep discounts in the deal marketplace, but when purchasing, they tend to gravitate toward lower-tiered products at their original prices and modest depths of discounts. The authors illustrate how insights from the proposed model can be utilized to profile consumers based on their price preferences and to improve personalized product recommendations. This study compared the thickness of each intraretinal layer in patients with neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) and controls to analyze the association between intraretinal layer thickness and visual function. The macular spectral-domain optical coherence tomography volumetric dataset obtained from 68 eyes (25 adult eyes, 43 pediatric eyes) with NF1 without optic glioma and 143 control eyes (100 adult eyes, 43 pediatric eyes) was used for image auto-segmentation. The intraretinal layers segmented from the volumetric data included the macular retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GCIPL), inner nuclear layer, outer plexiform layer, outer nuclear layer, and photoreceptor layer. Cases and controls were compared after adjusting for age, sex, refractive error, and binocular use. The association between retinal layer thickness and visual acuity was also analyzed. The GCIPL was significantly thinner in both adult and pediatric patients with NF1 compared with healthy controls. Average RNFL and GCIPL thicknesses were associated with visual acuity in adult patients with NF1. In pediatric patients, average GCIPL thickness was associated with visual acuity. Background: Bacterial extracellular vesicles (EVs) are pivotal mediators of intercellular communication and influence host cell biology, thereby contributing to the pathogenesis of infections. Despite their significance, the precise effects of bacterial EVs on the host cells remain poorly understood. This study aimed to elucidate ultrastructural changes in host cells upon infection with EVs derived from a pathogenic bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Results: Using super-resolution fluorescence microscopy and high-voltage electron microscopy, we investigated the nanoscale alterations in mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, lysosomes, and microtubules of skin cells infected with bacterial EVs. Our results revealed significant mitochondrial fission, loss of cristae, transformation of the ER from tubular to sheet-like structures, and fragmentation of the Golgi apparatus in cells infected with S. aureus EVs, in contrast to the negligible effects observed following S. epidermidis EV infection, probably due to the pathogenic factors in S. aureus EV, including protein A and enterotoxin. These findings indicate that bacterial EVs, particularly those from pathogenic strains, induce profound ultrastructural changes of host cells that can disrupt cellular homeostasis and contribute to infection pathogenesis. Quantum networks that can perform user-defined protocols beyond quantum key distribution will require fully controllable entangled quantum states. To expand the available space of generated time-bin entangled states, we demonstrate a time-bin entangled photon source that produces qubit states | ψ 〉 = α | 00 〉 + β | 11 〉 with fully controllable phase and amplitudes. Eight different two-photon states have been selected and prepared from arbitrary states on the reduced two-qubit Bloch sphere. The photon pairs encoded in the time-bin scheme were generated at 2.4 MHz with a visibility of V = 0.9475 ± 0.0016 , with a violation of the CHSH Bell's inequality by 197 standard deviations. After entanglement distribution over 100 km of single-mode fibers, we obtained a visibility of V = 0.9541 ± 0.0113 with a violation of the CHSH Bell's inequality by 6 standard deviations. The prepared states had an average fidelity of 0.9540 ± 0.0016 at the source and an average fidelity of 0.9353 − 0.0209 + 0.0100 after entanglement distribution, which shows that the quantum states generated by our time-bin entangled photon source can be fully controlled potentially to a level applicable to long-distance advanced quantum network systems. Blood lactate concentration is an established circulating biomarker for measuring muscle acidity and can be evaluated for monitoring endurance, training routines, or athletic performance. Sweat is an alternative biofluid that may serve similar purposes and offers the advantage of noninvasive collection and continuous monitoring. The relationship between blood lactate and dynamic sweat biochemistry for wearable engineering applications in physiological fitness remains poorly defined. Here, we developed a microfluidic wearable band with an integrated colorimetric timer and biochemical assays that temporally captures sweat and measures pH and lactate concentration. A colorimetric silver nanoplasmonic assay was used to measure the concentration of lactate, and dye-conjugated SiO2 nanoparticle–agarose composite materials supported dynamic pH analysis. We evaluated these sweat biomarkers in relation to blood lactate in human participant studies during cycling exercise of varying intensity. Iontophoresis-generated sweat pH from regions of actively working muscles decreased with increasing heart rate during exercise and was negatively correlated with blood lactate concentration. In contrast, sweat pH from nonworking muscles did not correlate with blood lactate concentration. Changes in sweat pH and blood lactate were observed in participants who did not regularly exercise but not in individuals who regularly exercised, suggesting a relationship to physical fitness and supporting further development for noninvasive, biochemical fitness evaluations. Background: The demand for organ transplants, both globally and in South Korea, substantially exceeds the supply, a situation that might have been aggravated by the enactment of the Life-Sustaining Treatment Decision Act (LSTDA) in February 2018. This legislation may influence emergency medical procedures and the availability of organs from brain-dead donors. This study aimed to assess LSTDA's impact, introduced in February 2018, on organ donation status in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients in a metropolitan city and identified related factors. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of a regional cardiac arrest registry. This study included patients aged 16 or older with cardiac arrest and a cerebral performance category (CPC) score of 5 from January 2015 to December 2022. The exclusion criteria were CPC scores of 1–4, patients under 16 years, and patients declared dead or transferred from emergency departments. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyse factors affecting organ donation. Results: Of the 751 patients included in this study, 47 were organ donors, with a median age of 47 years. Before the LSTDA, there were 30 organ donations, which declined to 17 after its implementation. In the organ donation group, the causes of cardiac arrest included medical (34%), hanging (46.8%), and trauma (19.2%). The adjusted odds ratio for organ donation before the LSTDA implementation was 6.12 (95% CI 3.09–12.12), with non-medical aetiology as associated factors. Conclusion: The enactment of the LSTDA in 2018 in South Korea may be linked to reduced organ donations among patients with OHCA, underscoring the need to re-evaluate the medical and legal aspects of organ donation, especially considering end-of-life care decisions. Background: This report describes the oncologic outcomes for patients with advanced ovarian cancer who had bowel surgery performed by gynecologic oncologists (GOs) and compares the outcomes with those for bowel surgery performed by general surgeons (GSs) during maximal cytoreductive surgery. Methods: Patients from six academic institutions who had FIGO stage III or IV ovarian cancer and underwent any bowel surgeries during maximal cytoreductive surgery were eligible for the study. The patients were divided into two groups according to whether bowel surgery was performed by a GO or a GS. In both groups, the GOs were mainly involved in extra bowel debulking procedures. Perioperative and survival outcomes were compared between the two groups. Results: The 761 patients in this study included 113 patients who underwent bowel surgery by a GO and 648 who had bowel surgery by a GS. No discernible differences were observed in age, American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) score, FIGO stage, histologic type, timing of cytoreductive surgery (primary or interval debulking surgery), or complications between the two groups. The GO group exhibited a shorter operation time than the GS group. Kaplan–Meier analysis showed no survival differences between the two groups. In the Cox analysis, non-serous cell types and gross residual diseases were associated with adverse effects on overall survival. However, performance of bowel surgery by a GO did not have an impact on survival. Conclusion: Performance of bowel surgery by a GO during maximal cytoreductive surgery is both feasible and safe. These results should be reflected in the training system for GOs regarding bowel surgery, and further research is needed to confirm that GOs can play a more leading role in performing extra-uterine procedures. This paper reports a new nondestructive noncontact method of sensing surface roughness, particularly the surface undulation produced in the plowing stage of wear. This method involves inductance measurement. It is fast, provides global information and is suitable for real-time monitoring, but it is limited to electrical conductors. This amounts to structural self-sensing. Ultramild abrasive wear primarily in the plowing regime, with areal weight loss ≤ 0.075 g/cm2 and ≤ 0.040 g/cm2 for steel and aluminum, respectively (i.e., thickness loss ≤ 0.30 mm and ≤ 0.48 mm for steel and aluminum, respectively), is effectively sensed by this method. The inductance measurement involves two electrical contacts (clips) and an LCR meter (2 kHz). The inductance increases monotonically with increasing degree of wear primarily in the plowing regime, beyond which it does not increase further. This is due to the sensitivity of the inductance to the surface undulation, as expected from Faraday's law. Longitudinal wear (wear performed in the inductance measurement direction, i.e., direction along the metal bar length) and transverse wear (wear performed along the direction perpendicular to the inductance measurement direction) give similar weight loss. However, the fractional increase in inductance due to wear is greater for transverse wear than longitudinal wear, as expected from Faraday's law. Hence, the inductance method can discern the surface undulation direction, i.e., the wear direction, but the weight loss method cannot. Objectives: This study aims to develop computer-aided detection (CAD) for colorectal cancer (CRC) using abdominal CT based on a deep convolutional neural network. Methods: This retrospective study included consecutive patients with colorectal adenocarcinoma who underwent abdominal CT before CRC resection surgery (training set = 379, test set = 103). We customized the 3D U-Net of nnU-Net (CUNET) for CRC detection, which was trained with fivefold cross-validation using annotated CT images. CUNET was validated using datasets covering various clinical situations and institutions: an internal test set (n = 103), internal patients with CRC first determined by CT (n = 54) and asymptomatic CRC (n = 51), and an external validation set from two institutions (n = 60). During each validation, data from the healthy population were added (internal = 60; external = 130). CUNET was compared with other deep CNNs: residual U-Net and EfficientDet. The CAD performances were evaluated using per-CRC sensitivity (true positive/all CRCs), free-response receiver operating characteristic (FROC), and jackknife alternative FROC (JAFROC) curves. Results: CUNET showed a higher maximum per-CRC sensitivity than residual U-Net and EfficientDet (internal test set 91.3% vs. 61.2%, and 64.1%). The per-CRC sensitivity of CUNET at false-positive rates of 3.0 was as follows: internal CRC determined by CT, 89.3%; internal asymptomatic CRC, 87.3%; and external validation, 89.6%. CUNET detected 69.2% (9/13) of CRCs missed by radiologists and 89.7% (252/281) of CRCs from all validation sets. Conclusions: CUNET can detect CRC on abdominal CT in patients with various clinical situations and from external institutions. Background and Purpose: Chitinase‐3‐like 1 (CHI3L1) causes skin inflammation in the progression of atopic dermatitis. We investigated if anti‐CHI3L1 antibody could prevent the development of atopic dermatitis and its mechanisms of action. Experimental Approach: The effect of CHI3L1 antibody on phthalic anhydride‐induced atopic dermatitis animal model and in vitro reconstructed human skin (RHS) model were investigated. Expression and release of atopic dermatitis‐related cytokines were determined using an enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay, and RT‐qPCR, STAT3 and CXCL8 signalling were measured by western blotting. Key Results: Anti‐CHI3L1 antibody suppressed phthalic anhydride‐induced epidermal thickening, clinical score, IgE level and infiltration of inflammatory cells, and reduced phthalic anhydride‐induced inflammatory cytokines concentration. In addition, CHI3L1 antibody treatment inhibited the expression of STAT3 activity in phthalic anhydride‐treated skin. It was also confirmed that CHI3L1 antibody treatment alleviated atopic dermatitis‐related inflammation in the RHS model. The inhibitory effects of CHI3L1 antibody was similar or more effective compared with that of the IL‐4 antibody. We further found that CHI3L1 is associated with CXCL8 by protein‐association network analysis. siRNA of CHI3L1 blocked the mRNA levels of CHI3L1, IL‐1β, IL‐4, CXCL8, TSLP, and the expression of CHI3L1 and p‐STAT, and the level of CXCL8, whereas recombinant level of CXCL8 was elevated. Moreover, siRNA of STAT3 reduced the mRNA level of these cytokines. CHI3L1 and p‐STAT3 expression correlated with the reduced CXCL8 level in the RHS in vitro model. A nationwide cohort study investigated the association between prior respiratory syncytial viral (RSV) infection and the severity of COVID-19. The study found that individuals with a history of RSV infection had a higher susceptibility to COVID-19, increased risk of hospitalization, and greater severity of the disease. This association was particularly pronounced in older individuals and those with underlying conditions such as diabetes and congestive heart failure. The study suggests that recent RSV infection contributes to the burden of COVID-19 and highlights the potential benefits of RSV vaccination in mitigating the clinical course of COVID-19. Sand‐casting molds suffer from surface defects and low strength. An organic–inorganic binder conversion process, wherein an organic binder is converted to an inorganic binder, has been proposed to increase the application temperature of the sand‐casting mold and simplify the manufacturing process for precision casting. However, the usable temperature of the typical SiO2–Na2O binder system is limited to approximately 1000°C owing to the low liquefaction temperature of the compound. The resulting glass phase (Na2SiO3) exhibits low viscosity, and the casting of large objects results in low strength. Therefore, in this study, we propose a SiO2–Na2O–ZrO2 ternary inorganic binder system; the addition of zirconia (ZrO2) into sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) as an inorganic binder was expected to increase the operating temperature of the mold and improve its mechanical properties. The results confirmed that the addition of ZrO2 improved the mechanical properties by preventing the formation of Na2SiO3. In addition, a higher sintering temperature corresponded to smaller and larger amounts of Na2SiO3 and Na2ZrSiO5, respectively, and thus a higher strength. Background: Over 80% of blindness in Kenya is due to curable or preventable causes and 7.5 m Kenyans currently need eye services. Embedding sociodemographic data collection into screening programmes could help identify the groups facing systematic barriers to care. We aimed to determine the sociodemographic characteristics that were associated with access among patients diagnosed with an eye problem and referred for treatment in the Vision Impact Programme, currently operating in Meru County. Method: We used an embedded, pragmatic, cross-sectional design. A list of sociodemographic questions was developed with input from key stakeholders. The final question set included the following domains: age, gender, religion, marital status, disability, education, occupation, income, housing, assets, and health insurance. These were integrated into an app that is used to screen, refer, and check-in (register) participants within a major eye screening programme. We gathered data from 4,240 people who screened positive and were referred to their local outreach treatment clinic. We used logistic regression to identify which groups were facing the greatest barriers to accessing care. Results: A quarter of those screened between April – July 2023 were found to have an eye problem and were referred, however only 46% of these people were able to access care. In our fully adjusted model, at the 0.05 level there were no statistically significant differences in the odds of attendance within the domains of disability, health insurance, housing, income, or religion. Strong evidence (p < 0.001) was found of an association between access and age, gender, and occupation; with males, younger adults, and those working in sales, services and manual jobs the least likely to receive care. Conclusions: Access to essential eye services is low and unequal in Meru, with less than a third of those aged 18–44 receiving the care they need. Background: Posterior chamber intraocular lens (IOL) dislocation is a common complication of cataract surgery. Dislocated IOLs often require surgical intervention due to the potentially severe risks of leaving this condition untreated. If a patient with extremely low corneal endothelial cell density (ECD) presents with IOL dislocation, the surgeon faces a crucial dilemma of choosing the most optimal surgical treatment option. We sought to investigate the efficacy and safety of retropupillary iris claw intraocular lens (R-IOL) implantation in patients with IOL dislocation and extremely low (< 1000 cells/mm2) ECD. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of nine patients (all men) whose pre-operative ECD was < 1000 cells/mm2 and who underwent R-IOL implantation due to intraocular subluxation or total dislocation into the vitreous cavity between 2014 and 2020. We evaluated corneal endothelial function and visual outcomes after surgery. Results: Nine patients were included in this study. The mean age at diagnosis was 64.89 ± 7.15 years (range 57–76 years), and the follow-up duration was 37.93 ± 23.72 months (range 18.07–89.07 months). No patients developed bullous keratopathy during follow-up. Compared to the initial ECD, corneal thickness (CT), coefficient variation of cell area (CV) and percentage of hexagonal cells (HEX), there was no statistically significant decrease in the ECD, CV, and HEX at last follow-up (P = 0.944, 0.778, 0.445, 0.443). There was significant improvement in the mean uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) at the last follow-up (average 0.13 logMAR, 20/27 Snellen) compared to the pre-operative mean UDVA (average 1.09 logMAR, 20/250 Snellen) (P < 0.01). Conclusions: R-IOL implantation did not result in a statistically significant decline in corneal endothelial function in patients with preoperatively low ECD, and it significantly improved the mean UDVA postoperatively. R-IOL implantation appears to be a safe and effective treatment modality for intraocular lens dislocation in patients with low ECD (< 1000 cells/mm²); however, long-term follow-up studies are warranted to corroborate these findings. Background: A six-minute walk test (6MWT) is a reproducible, easily performed test, and is widely used to determine functional exercise capacity in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). However, there is currently a paucity of data on the clinical significance of baseline and serial 6-minute walk tests in patients with IPF, especially in Asian patients. Objectives: We aimed to investigate the clinical significance of serial 6MWT in patients with IPF, especially in Asian patients. Design: This is a single-center retrospective cohort study. Methods: Clinical data of patients diagnosed with IPF at a tertiary center in Korea were retrospectively analyzed. IPF diagnosis was defined according to the clinical guidelines of the American Thoracic Society (ATS)/European Respiratory Society (ERS)/Japanese Respiratory Society/Latin American Thoracic Association. Results: There were 216 patients diagnosed with IPF from December 2012 to January 2022, of whom 198 had a baseline of 6MWT data. The mean age of the cohort was 66.9 ± 8.6, and 89% were male. The non-survivors showed significantly lower six-minute walk distance (6MWD), minimum saturation of peripheral oxygen (SpO2) during 6MWT, forced vital capacity, and diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide than survivors at baseline. A multivariate Cox analysis demonstrated that lower minimum SpO2 was independently associated with increased mortality rates (Hazard ratio (HR): 1.081, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.024–1.142, p = 0.005). Higher mortality rates were also associated with echocardiographic-determined pulmonary hypertension (HR: 2.466, 95% CI: 1.149–5.296, p = 0.021) at diagnosis. Among 144 patients with 6MWT results at 12 months, patients with a decline of 50 m or more in the 6MWD showed poorer overall survival than others (median survival: 45.0 months vs 58.0 months, p < 0.001). Conclusions: Baseline lower minimum SpO2 during 6MWT was an independent prognostic factor in patients with IPF, and a decline in 6MWD in serial follow-up was also associated with a poorer prognosis. SH2B1 mutations are associated with obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in humans. Global deletion of Sh2b1 results in severe obesity, type 2 diabetes, and MASLD in mice. Neuron‐specific restoration of SH2B1 rescues the obesity phenotype of Sh2b1‐null mice, indicating that the brain is a main SH2B1 target. However, SH2B1 neurocircuits remain elusive. SH2B1‐expressing neurons in the paraventricular hypothalamus (PVHSH2B1) and a PVHSH2B1→dorsal raphe nucleus (DRN) neurocircuit are identified here. PVHSH2B1 axons monosynaptically innervate DRN neurons. Optogenetic stimulation of PVHSH2B1 axonal fibers in the DRN suppresses food intake. Chronic inhibition of PVHSH2B1 neurons causes obesity. In male and female mice, either embryonic‐onset or adult‐onset deletion of Sh2b1 in PVH neurons causes energy imbalance, obesity, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, and MASLD. Ablation of Sh2b1 in the DRN‐projecting PVHSH2B1 subpopulation also causes energy imbalance, obesity, and metabolic disorders. Conversely, SH2B1 overexpression in either total or DRN‐projecting PVHSH2B1 neurons protects against diet‐induced obesity. SH2B1 binds to TrkB and enhances brain‐derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling. Ablation of Sh2b1 in PVHSH2B1 neurons induces BDNF resistance in the PVH, contributing to obesity. In the search for alternative energy sources due to the depletion of fossil fuels, green hydrogen energy produced from the water splitting reaction is considered to be a promising candidate owing to its high energy density and zero carbon emission. This reaction involves two electrons for the production of hydrogen at the cathode and four electrons for the production of oxygen at the anode. Therefore, the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is as crucial as the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, due to the sluggish kinetics of OER and the low abundance and high cost of the state-of-the-art RuO2 and IrO2 catalysts (noble metals), it is necessary to develop alternative low-cost, highly abundant, reasonably active, and stable catalysts to realize their industrial application in the water splitting reaction. In this case, the sol–gel process involves wet chemical synthesis using low-cost transition metal precursors for the production of various nanostructures, specifically oxide materials. In recent decades, a plethora of sol–gel-synthesized materials including metal oxides, hydroxides, phosphides, sulfides, and their derivatives have demonstrated remarkable efficiency as heterostructure catalysts in promoting water splitting activities including oxygen evolution reactions. In this method, the precursor molecules are mainly dissolved in alcohol or water, forming a sol, and then converted to gel via various approaches, and eventually dried to obtain the resultant catalyst. Accordingly, anticipating continuous growth in the research on these materials due to their cost-effective, easy fabrication, and ability to realize industrial applications, a comprehensive review addressing the enhancement of sol–gel-synthesized composites becomes imperative. This review aims to provide a thorough analysis of the recent research advancements in the sol–gel approach and resulting materials for OER. Particularly, we focus on the recent developments, showcasing their potential applications and reasons why the prepared materials display enhanced catalytic properties. Although concrete materials generally exhibit outstanding mechanical properties, it is susceptible against crack formation. It has been reported that narrow cracks (≤ 150 µm) could be naturally sealed in the cement matrix by externally supplied water-induced hydration. However, the crack width of larger than 150 µm is difficult to be sealed without using additional self-healing admixture. In this study, the self-healing cementitious mortar was successfully developed by using a combination of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber and superabsorbent polymer (SAP), aiming to heal the wide cracks. Although the mechanical properties were slightly reduced, it shows outstanding self-healing performance by using the dual admixtures. A self-healing rate of 60% was observed in the control sample with an initial crack width of 300 µm, while a self-healing rate of nearly 100% was confirmed with suitable SAP and PVA. In addition, it was confirmed that lower hydration degree of self-healing mortar in early stage contributes to the enhanced self-healing performance of developed composite system by internally supplied water from SAP. Background: Hypoxia-regulated proteins (HIF-1α and GLUT-1) have been identified as prognostic markers in various cancers; however, their role in endometrial cancer remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate HIF-1α and GLUT-1 expression in endometrial cancer and correlate their expression with clinicopathological features. Materials and Methods: A tissue microarray (TMA) was constructed using specimens from a retrospective cohort of 51 endometrial cancer patients who underwent hysterectomy at the Gyeongsang National University Hospital between 2002 and 2009. Clinicopathologic data were collected from electronic medical records, and HIF-1α and GLUT-1 expressions were assessed in the tumor tissue. Results: GLUT-1 expression in endometrial cancer was categorized as mosaic, central, or diffuse. Most patients (56.0%) exhibited a central pattern, followed by diffuse (32.0%) and mosaic (12.0%) patterns. GLUT-1 expression was not significantly associated with histologic grade (p = 0.365). HIF-1α expression in immune cells, but not tumor cells, was significantly associated with a higher histologic grade. A higher proportion of HIF-1α-positive immune cells, using both thresholds (≤1% vs. >1% and ≤5% vs. >5%), was significantly associated with higher histologic grade (p = 0.032 and p = 0.048, respectively). In addition, a higher proportion of HIF-1α-positive immune cells was significantly associated with a diffuse GLUT-1 expression pattern using >5% as a threshold. There were no significant differences in the proportion of HIF-1α-positive immune cells between groups stratified by age, tumor size, or invasion depth, regardless of whether the 1% or 5% threshold for HIF-1α positivity was used. Conclusions: A higher proportion of HIF-1α-positive immune cells is associated with endometrial cancers with higher histologic grade and diffuse GLUT1 expression patterns. With the increasing demand for high-performance leisure boat propellers, this study explores the development of high-strength aluminum alloy propellers using the low-pressure die-casting (LPDC) process. In Part I of the study, we identified the optimal alloy compositions for Al-6Zn-2Mg-1.5Cu propellers and highlighted the challenges of hot tearing at the junction between the hub and blades. In this continuation, we developed a coupled thermal fluid stress analysis model using ProCAST software to optimize the LPDC process. By adjusting casting parameters such as the melt supply temperature, initial mold temperature, and curvature radius between the hub and blades, we minimized hot tearing and other casting defects. The results were validated through simulations and practical applications, showing significant improvements in the quality and structural integrity of the propellers. Non-destructive testing using X-ray CT confirmed the reduction in internal defects, demonstrating the effectiveness of the simulation-based approach for alloy design and process optimization. Macro fibers have been extensively used in the construction of various concrete structures, including bridges, dams, tunnels, industrial floors, and pavements. However, their effectiveness in reducing crack opening widths in concrete pavements has not been fully explored. This study aims to delineate the role of fibers by identifying the optimal types and volumes for effectively controlling cracks in concrete pavement structures, particularly in thin overlays. The research investigates how different fiber types, such as synthetic and steel, and their respective volumes can mitigate crack propagation in concrete overlays. Additionally, it evaluates the performance of fiber-reinforced concrete overlays compared to conventional dowel bar systems in terms of crack width reduction and overall pavement durability. Objectives: This study aims to compare outcomes following a negative surveillance MRI study by surgery-MRI interval and investigate factors associated with second breast cancers in women with a personal history of breast cancer (PHBC). Methods: This retrospective study included 1552 consecutive women (mean age, 53 years) with a PHBC and a negative prevalence surveillance breast MRI result between August 2014 and December 2016. The incidence and characteristics of second breast cancers were reviewed and compared according to surgery-MRI interval (< 3 years vs ≥ 3 years). Logistic regression analysis was used to investigate associations with clinical-pathologic characteristics. Results: Twenty-five second breast cancers occurred after negative MRI. The incidence of second breast cancers or local-regional recurrence did not significantly differ by surgery-MRI interval. The median intervals between MRI to second breast cancer detection showed no significant difference between the two groups (surgery-MRI interval <3 years vs. ≥ 3 years). Two node-positive second breast cancers were detected in the group with <3 years interval. BRCA mutation status, receipt of breast-conserving surgery, and adjuvant chemotherapy (all p <.05) were significant factors associated with the development of second breast cancers. Conclusion: Outcomes following a negative surveillance MRI did not differ by surgery-MRI interval. BRCA mutation status, receipt of breast-conserving surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy were independently associated with the risk of developing second breast cancers after negative surveillance MRI. The demand for eco-friendly wearable sensors is driving the exploration of stretchable, biocompatible, conductive, and recyclable materials for detecting electromechanical signals from the human body. Herein, a straightforward method for producing stretchable, conductive, water-permeable, low-hysteresis, and recyclable hybrid films is proposed, based on a combination of hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) and lab-synthesized poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (L-PEDOT:PSS). Fine-tuning the film composition yields a stretchable and high-performance sensing material with ultralow hysteresis. The composite film is stable even when subjected to 5000 strained stretch-release cycles and exhibits an efficient thermoresistive response. The on-skin sensor derived from the HEC/L-PEDOT:PSS composite conforms to diverse body movements without sacrificing structural integrity. The sensors exhibit high sensitivity, stability, rapid response times, and low power consumption, enabling efficient monitoring of subtle human activities, such as handwriting, frowning, air flow, and even diaphragmatic breathing. Our sensors not only demonstrate excellent recycling, but also exhibit almost complete recovery of both mechanical and electrical functions upon recycling. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the HEC/PEDOT:PSS composite as a multifunctional and recyclable on-skin sensor. HEC/L-PEDOT:PSS composite films are promising for the advancement of on-skin sensors and will contribute to the development of high-performance, eco-friendly, and zero-waste wearable sensors. Graphitic nanoplatelets (GnPs), edge‐selectively carboxylated graphitic nanoplatelets (ECGnPs), are functionalized with a carboxylic acid at the edge increasing their surface area, and are highly dispersible in various solvents. However, there is a limit in that the basal plane remains intact because it is functionalized only in the part where the radical is generated at the edge. Here, we activate ECGnPs to have porous structures by flowing CO2 at 900 °C. Etching of the ECGnPs structure was performed through the Boudouard reaction, and the surface area increased from 579 m2 g−1 to a maximum of 2462 m2 g−1. In addition, the pore structure was investigated with various adsorption gases (CH4, Ar, CO2, H2, and N2) according to the reaction time. This study provides the overall green chemistry in that it utilizes CO2 from manufacturing to activation compared to the process of activating with conventional chemical treatment. Two-dimensional (2D) transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) materials are indispensable candidates for thermoelectric (TE) device applications. However, thermal transport at low temperatures, as an important TE device application, has not been fully realized, especially in large-area 2D TMDC films. Here, we report temperature-dependent in-plane Seebeck coefficients, along with electrical and thermal conductivities, of both 3 nm-thick PtSe2 films and stacked 2D/2D semiconducting PtSe2/PtSe2 (3 nm/3 nm) homostructures at temperatures ranging from 40 to 300 K using a homemade Seebeck coefficient measurement module and a heat diffusion imaging method, respectively. In the single 2D PtSe2 (3 nm) film, simultaneous decreases in the in-plane Seebeck coefficient and electrical conductivity were observed with decreasing temperature, indicating the presence of both semiconductor and metallic properties. At 300 K, the in-plane Seebeck coefficient of the single 2D PtSe2 film is ∼65.1 μV K−1, whereas those of the 2-, 3-, and 4-stacked PtSe2/PtSe2 homostructures are ∼69.1, ∼79.0 and ∼72.0 μV K−1, respectively due to interface formation between the PtSe2 layer. The in-plane thermal conductivity of the single PtSe2 film is ∼28.3 W m−1 K at 300 K and reaches maximum values of ∼98.5 and ∼12.1 W m−1 K at 97 and 42 K, respectively. Our findings demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing 2D semiconducting PtSe2 layers with interface formation between the 2D layers as TE energy-saving and energy-generating devices, as they exhibit the TE properties required by an ideal TE material. Ammonia is one of the precursor gases in the formation of particulate matter (PM) that reacts with nitrogen oxides and sulfur oxides in the atmosphere. Based on the Clean Air Policy Support System (CAPSS) of Korea, the annual ammonia emissions amounted to 261,207 tons in 2020 and the agricultural source (manure management sector) contributes the highest proportion of the ammonia inventory. However, the methodology for the study of ammonia emissions in Korea has some limitations regarding the representativeness of the sites selected and the reliability of the measurement method. In this study, we aimed to recalculate the ammonia emissions from the livestock industry in Korea using the UK's estimation method, which uses the life cycle assessment of livestock manure. Three major animal types, i.e., cattle (beef cattle and dairy cows), pigs and chickens, and three major processes based on the manure flow, i.e., housing, manure storage and treatment and land application processes, were considered. The total ammonia emissions were estimated to be approximately 33% higher than the official ammonia emissions stated by the CAPSS. For the manure flow, the ammonia emissions were the highest from land application processes. The ammonia emissions from dairy cow and poultry manure were much higher than those stated by the CAPSS, while the emissions from beef cattle and pig manure showed similar levels. The methodology used in this study can offer an alternative approach to the ammonia emission estimation of the manure management sector in the agriculture industry of Korea. A continuous purification process can be beneficial to the purification of biologics due to its higher productivity and efficiency than a conventional batch purification process. However, regulatory issues and lack of established cases render deployment of the continuous process difficult in industrial settings. Here we report a case study for design and optimization of an advanced continuous process for purifying a low-titer enzyme as a model biologic. To convert a conventional batch process to an advanced continuous one in purification of biologics, conventional unit operations (UOs), including ultrafiltration/diafiltration (UF/DF) and batch chromatography, were replaced by advanced ones such as in-line dilution conditioning (IDC) and periodic counter-current chromatography (PCC). The UF/DF UO was changed to IDC UO to adjust pH and conductivity. The mixing ratio of the sample and the conditioning buffer in IDC was determined by experiments with three buffers. PCC was optimized with two variables, column height and sample loading residence time, as the delta pressure in the columns was less than 1.0 bar. A graph indicating the operating area was plotted to efficiently control the PCC. Although the sample volume increased in IDC, PCC had a complementary advantage in that purification was performed faster than batch chromatography. We observed at least 25% increase in economic advantage when the advanced continuous process was applied to purify a low-titer enzyme. We propose not only a continuous process with the substitution of UF/DF and batch chromatography with IDC and PCC but also a method to optimize PCC by plotting operating areas. Lack of Factor VIII (FVIII) concentrates is one of limiting factors for Hemophilia A prophylaxis in resource-limited countries. Rondaptivon pegol (BT200) is a pegylated aptamer and has been shown to elevate the level of von Willebrand Factor (VWF) and FVIII in previous studies. A population pharmacokinetic model for BT200 was built and linked to the kinetic models of VWF and FVIII based on reasonable assumptions. The developed PK/PD model for BT200 described the observed kinetic of BT200, VWF, and FVIII in healthy volunteers and patients with mild-to-moderate hemophilia A from two clinical trials. The developed model was evaluated using an external dataset in patients with severe hemophilia A taking recombinant FVIII products. The developed and evaluated PK/PD model was able to describe and predict concentration–time profiles of BT200, VWF, and FVIII in healthy volunteers and patients with hemophilia A. Concentration–time profiles of FVIII were then predicted following coadministration of plasma-derived FVIII concentrate and BT200 under various dosing scenarios in virtual patients with severe hemophilia A. Plasma-derived products, that contain VWF, are more accessible in low-resource countries as compared to their recombinant counterparts. The predicted time above 1 and 3 IU/dL FVIII in one week was compared between scenarios in the absence and presence of BT200. A combination dose of 6 mg BT200 once weekly plus 10 IU/kg plasma-derived FVIII twice weekly maintained similar coverage to a 30 IU/kg FVIII thrice weekly dose in absence of BT200, representing only 22% of the FVIII dose per week. The mechanism of the development of solutal Marangoni instability in a thin layer of polymer solution, by rapid evaporation of volatile solvent, is studied numerically. By considering the conservation of mass, momentum, and concentration across the evaporating surface, physically reliable kinematic and boundary conditions are derived and implemented in numerical simulations. To simulate the drying of a polymer solution more realistically up to the point where 80% of solvent was evaporated, the concentration-dependent evaporation rate, viscosity, and diffusivity and the movement of the interface are taken into account. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the generation and merging of convective cell motions in a layer during drying lead to surface patterns as the drying process continues. The drying of a polymer film and the development of the surface topography including thickness deviation depend on various physical phenomena such as Marangoni stress, surface tension, vapor recoil pressure, evaporation rate, initial concentration of polymer, and variation of viscosity and diffusivity with concentration. Meanwhile, the vapor recoil force plays little role in the onset of instability motion and the irregularity of the evaporation surface. Furthermore, both the diffusivity reduction and the viscosity thickening due to evaporative concentration play a critical role in the formation of the skin layer, because they suppress the Marangoni instability motion and therefore impede the convective transport of concentrated polymeric solute. Semiconductor manufacturing processing can be jeopardized due to process fluctuations, and the degradation of equipment parts can significantly influence process variation. Timely diagnosing equipment faults causing process variations is desired in current high-end product manufacturing. This paper proposes a diagnostic method for the SiH4 gas flow rate drift using N2 vibrational transition in oxide deposition. In this research, optical emission spectroscopy (OES) and quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS) are employed as condition monitoring sensors serving as a reference model to compare the diagnostic performance for gas flow rate drift. The study observes that the OES model exhibits much higher performance for minor diagnoses of less than 5% drift. The diagnostic model performance can be enhanced by incorporating plasma condition and gas indicators compared to when these indicators are used individually. This suggests that when conducting diagnostics for equipment and processes, it is crucial to consider indirect indicators like plasma indicators along with direct indicators such as gas radical density. The comprehensive use of both types of indicators enhances the diagnostic performance, providing a more accurate assessment of the conditions and potential problem in semiconductor manufacturing. Aim: We compared three different intensities of robot‐assisted gait training (RAGT) for achieving favourable outcomes in children with cerebral palsy (CP). Method: This study was conducted using a randomized controlled, single‐blind design. Thirty children (19 males and 11 females; mean age 6 years 1 month, SD 2 years) with CP classified in Gross Motor Function Classification System levels II and III were assigned to three different RAGT intensity groups: high‐intensity (fastest walking speed and lowest body weight support [BWS]), low‐intensity (slowest speed and highest BWS), and comfortable intensity (intermediate speed and intermediate BWS). The RAGT intervention was performed three times a week for 6 weeks. Outcome measures included the 88‐item Gross Motor Function Measure, stability index, spatiotemporal parameters of gait analysis, paediatric functional independence measure, and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. Results: The 88‐item Gross Motor Function Measure was significantly improved after training in the high‐intensity (D Δ8.3 ± 15.6; E Δ3.8 ± 4.1) and comfortable intensity (D Δ2.9 ± 3.1; E Δ1.2 ± 2.0) groups, whereas gait speed was improved in the comfortable intensity group, without statistically significant group differences. Only the low‐intensity group showed improvement on the stability index (Δ −0.6 ± 0.9, p = 0.05). Everyday functional performance significantly improved in all three groups, with the comfortable intensity group showing the greatest improvement. Interpretation: Different training intensities produced improvement in different areas; individualized RAGT intensity adjustment is therefore needed based on the rehabilitation goal. A significant advancement in marketing studies has been the use of big data analytics to explore and derive customer experience (CX) insights. With fitness businesses' pivoting towards managing CX along the entire customer journey, this study aimed to understand CX in the commercial fitness industry. A textual corpus of three million words was extracted from a total of 24,231 Yelp reviews on 1,045 fitness clubs in the United States. Structural Topic Modeling (STM), content analysis, and topic network analysis were performed to identify CX themes and their inter-relationships. We then inductively identified topics and themes germane to CX in fitness clubs and derived a general CX model. Sixty-eight relevant topics were identified through an iterative STM and content analysis process and were subsequently interpreted using the CX paradigm and experience design framework (Funk, 2017; Voss et al., 2008). Our final model integrates experience design elements (i.e. stageware, orgware, customerware), customer journey (i.e. pre-usage, usage, post-usage) and CX (i.e. subjective and internal responses) and shows the interrelationships among them. Our model offers an integrative and coherent theoretical framework to examine CX in commercial fitness clubs. Our model and methodology allow researchers and organizations not only to capture CX and the relative salience of CX topics, but also to track CX trends over time, compare the experience design elements of an organization, measure CX performance against competitors, and link CX topics to other criterion variables (e.g. retention rate, financial performance, business survivability). Our primary purpose in this study was to determine whether trained dancers differed from untrained non-dancers in their ability to accurately control motor timing during finger and heel tapping tasks, both with and without slow isochronous auditory stimuli. Dancers and non-dancers were instructed to synchronize their taps with isochronous auditory stimuli under three conditions: 30, 40, and 50 BPM. After the synchronization phase, participants were asked to continue tapping without the auditory sequences. On the synchronization task, the tapping onset of both groups lagged behind the stimulus onset in all tempo conditions. In all conditions, dancers showed more accurate and stable beat synchronization and continuation than non-dancers. As the tempo condition slowed down (from 50 to 30 BPM), synchronization accuracy decreased while synchronization and continuation variability increased. Unlike for novices, dancers showed no difference between the finger and heel tapping synchronization tasks. During the continuous tasks, their timing accuracy was higher for heel than for finger tapping. Collectively, these findings suggest that dance training, which involves synchronizing bodily movements based on rhythm, may lead to an accumulation of experience that enhances specific sensorimotor skills related to synchronizing movements with external stimuli or continuing rhythmic movements temporally. Non‐aqueous lithium‐oxygen batteries (LOBs) have emerged as a promising candidate due to their high theoretical energy density and eco‐friendly cathode reaction materials. However, LOBs still suffer from high overpotential and poor cycling stability resulting from difficulties in the decomposition of discharge reaction Li2O2 products. Here, a 3D open network catalyst structure is proposed based on highly‐thin and porous multi‐metal oxide nanofibers (MMONFs) developed by a facile electrospinning approach coupled with a heat treatment process. The developed hierarchically interconnected 3D porous MMONFs catalyst structure with high specific surface area and porosity shows the enhanced electrochemical reaction kinetics associated with Li2O2 formation and decomposition on the cathode surface during the charge and discharge processes. The uniquely assembled cathode materials with MMONFs exhibit excellent electrochemical performance with energy efficiency of 82% at a current density of 50 mA g−1 and a long‐term cycling stability over 100 cycles at 200 mA g−1 with a cut‐off capacity of 500 mAh g−1. Moreover, the optimized cathode materials exhibit a remarkable energy density of 1013 Wh kg−1 at the 100th discharge and charge cycle, which is nearly four times higher than that of C/NMC721, which has the highest energy density among the cathode materials currently used in electric vehicles. Amorphous IGZO (a‐IGZO) thin‐film transistors (TFTs) are standard backplane electronics to power active‐matrix organic light‐emitting diode (AMOLED) televisions due to their high carrier mobility and negligible low leakage characteristics. Despite their advantages, limitations in color depth arise from a steep subthreshold swing (SS) (≤ 0.1 V/decade), necessitating costly external compensation for IGZO transistors. For mid‐size mobile applications such as OLED tablets and notebooks, it is important to ensure controllable SS value (≥ 0.3 V/decade). In this study, a conversion mechanism during plasma‐enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) is proposed as a feasible route to control the SS. When a pulse of a diethylzinc (DEZn) precursor is exposed to the M2O3 (M = In or Ga) surface layer, partial conversion of the underlying M2O3 to ZnO is predicted on the basis of density function theory calculations. Notably, significant distinctions between In‐Ga‐Zn (Case I) and In‐Zn‐Ga (Case II) films are observed: Case II exhibits a lower growth rate and larger Ga/In ratio. Case II TFTs with a‐IGZO (subcycle ratio of In:Ga:Zn = 3:1:1) show reasonable SS values (313 mV decade−1) and high mobility (µFE) of 29.3 cm2 Vs−1 (Case I: 84 mV decade−1 and 33.4 cm2 Vs−1). The rationale for Case II's reasonable SS values is discussed, attributing it to the plausible formation of In‐Zn defects, supported by technology computer‐aided design (TCAD) simulations. Over the past decade, the OECD has gradually shifted its governing mechanism from promoting 'best practices' based on comparative data on pupils' cognitive skills to actively advocating for individual and collective well-being as an alternative and ideal future. This article focuses on the OECD's use of 'techno-scientific fictive scripts' as a strategy to promote happiness and well-being as solutions to anticipated crises, despite their conceptual ambiguity and token usage. It analyses how the OECD's recent 'Future of Education' projects have sought to steer its audience towards shared concerns and expectations of the future, while simultaneously asserting its technical expertise in future studies methodologies. It argues that by returning from endorsing data-driven policies to making futuristic claims using future studies methodologies, the OECD endeavours to redefine itself as both a pathfinder and a problem solver, simultaneously blending its human capital imperatives with technological inevitability in its vision of the future.
