With the growing complexity of data structures, which include high-dimensional and multilabel datasets, the significance of feature selection has become more emphasized. Multilabel feature selection endeavors to identify a subset of features that concurrently exhibit relevance across multiple labels. Owing to the impracticality of performing exhaustive searches to obtain the optimal feature subset, conventional approaches in multilabel feature selection often resort to a heuristic search process. In this context, memetic multilabel feature selection has received considerable attention because of its superior search capability; the fitness of the feature subset created by the stochastic search is further enhanced through a refinement process predicated on the employed multilabel feature filter. Thus, it is imperative to employ an effective refinement process that frequently succeeds in improving the target feature subset to maximize the benefits of hybridization. However, the refinement process in conventional memetic multilabel feature selection often overlooks potential biases in feature scores and compatibility issues between the multilabel feature filter and the subsequent learner. Consequently, conventional methods may not effectively identify the optimal feature subset in complex multilabel datasets. In this study, we propose a new memetic multilabel feature selection method that addresses these limitations by incorporating the pruning of features and labels into the refinement process. Introduction: We previously conducted a phase I/Ib study (NCT03712943) with regorafenib and nivolumab in patients with refractory metastatic mismatch repair proficient (pMMR) colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to investigate the role of Xerna™ TME Panel in predicting the treatment response. Methods: Twenty-two archival pretreatment tumor samples were subjected to the Xerna™ TME Panel, a machine learning-based RNA-sequencing biomarker assay. The Xerna tumor microenvironment (TME) subtypes were evaluated for correlation with overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), disease control rate (DCR), and other biomarkers including KRAS, PD-L1, CD8 expression, and Treg cells in TME. Results: Based on Xerna™ TME Panel, 4 patients with immune-active (IA) subtype and 6 patients with immune-suppressed subtype were classified as biomarker-positive, and five with angiogenic (A) subtype and seven with immune desert subtype were biomarker-negative. While not reaching statistical significance, Xerna TME biomarker-positive patients seemed to have longer median PFS (7.9 vs. 4.1 months, p = 0.254), median OS (15.75 vs. 11.9 months, p = 0.378), and higher DCR (70% vs. 58%, p = 0.675). The IA subtype in our cohort had higher levels of CD4+ FOXP3+ Treg cells, whereas the A subtype showed lower levels of Treg cells. Conclusion: Xerna™ TME Panel analysis in patients with refractory metastatic pMMR CRC who were treated with regorafenib plus nivolumab might be of value for predictive clinical benefit. The spatial and temporal resolutions of contemporary microwave-based sea surface salinity (SSS) measurements are insufficient. Thus, we developed a gap-free gridded daily SSS product with higher spatial and temporal resolutions, which can provide information on short-term variability in the East China Sea (ECS), such as the front changes by Changjiang diluted water (CDW). Specifically, we conducted gap-filling for daily SSS products based on the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) with a spatial resolution of 1 km (0.01°), using a machine learning approach during the summer seasons from 2015 to 2019. The comparison of the Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP), Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS), and Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model (HYCOM) SSS products with the GOCI-derived SSS over the entire SSS range showed that the SMAP SSS was highly consistent, whereas the HYCOM SSS was the least consistent. In the < 31 psu range, the SMAP SSS was still the most consistent with the GOCI-derived SSS (R2=0.46 ; root mean squared error: RMSE = 2.41 psu); in the > 31 psu range, the CMEMS and HYCOM SSS products showed similar levels of agreement with that of the SMAP SSS. We trained and tested three machine learning models – the fine trees, boosted trees, and bagged trees models – using the daily GOCI-derived SSS as output, including the three SSS products, environmental variables, and geographical data. We combined the three SSS products to construct input datasets for machine learning. Using the test dataset, the bagged trees model showed the best results (mean R2=0.98 and RMSE = 1.31 psu), and the models that used the SMAP SSS as input had the highest level. For the dataset in the > 31 psu range, all the models exhibited similarly reasonable performances (RMSE = 1.25–1.35 psu). The comparison with in situ SSS data, time series analysis, and the spatial SSS distribution derived from models showed that all the models had proper CDW distributions with reasonable RMSE levels (0.91–1.56 psu). In addition, the CDW front derived from the model gap-free daily SSS product clearly demonstrated the daily oceanic mechanism during the summer season in the ECS at a detailed spatial scale. Notably, the CDW front in the zonal direction, as captured by the Ieodo Ocean Research Station (I-ORS), moved approximately 3.04 km d -1 in 2016, which is very fast compared with the cases in other years. Our model yielded a gap-free gridded daily SSS product with reasonable accuracy and enabled the successful recognition of daily SSS fronts at the 1 km level, which was previously not possible with ocean color data. Such successful application of machine learning models can further provide useful information on the long-term variation of daily SSS in the ECS. Postsynthetic modifications (PSMs) of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) play a crucial role in enhancing material performance through open metal site (OMS) functionalization or ligand exchange. However, a significant challenge persists in preserving open metal sites during ligand exchange, as these sites are inherently bound by incoming ligands. In this study, for the first time, we introduced alkoxides by exchanging bridging chloride in Ni2Cl2BTDD (BTDD=bis (1H‐1,2,3,–triazolo [4,5‐b],–[4′,5′‐i]) dibenzo[1,4]dioxin) through PSM. Rietveld refinement of synchrotron X‐ray diffraction data indicated that the alkoxide oxygen atom bridges Ni(II) centers while the OMSs of the MOF are preserved. Due to the synergy of the existing OMS and introduced functional group, the alkoxide‐exchanged MOFs showed CO2 uptakes superior to the pristine MOF. Remarkably, the tert‐butoxide‐substituted Ni_T exhibited a nearly threefold and twofold increase in CO2 uptake compared to Ni2Cl2BTDD at 0.15 and 1 bar, respectively, as well as high water stability relative to the other exchanged frameworks. Furthermore, the Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulations for Ni_T suggested that CO2 interacts with the OMS and the surrounding methyl groups of tert‐butoxide groups, which is responsible for the enhanced CO2 capacity. It is known that many diabetic patients experience testicular atrophy. This study sought to investigate the effect of 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR) on testicular function in rats with streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes, focusing on testicular weight, sperm motility, histological alterations, and serum testosterone levels to understand the efficacy of 4HR on testes. Our findings reveal that 4HR treatment significantly improves testicular health in diabetic rats. Notably, the STZ group exhibited a testicular weight of 1.22 ± 0.48 g, whereas the STZ/4HR group showed a significantly enhanced weight of 1.91 ± 0.26 g (p < 0.001), aligning closely with the control group's weight of 1.99 ± 0.17 g and the 4HR group's weight of 2.05 ± 0.24 g, indicating no significant difference between control and 4HR groups (p > 0.05). Furthermore, the STZ/4HR group demonstrated significantly improved sperm motility compared to the STZ group, with apoptotic indicators notably reduced in the STZ/4HR group relative to the STZ group (p < 0.05). Porphyran, a sulfated polysaccharide found in various species of marine red algae, has been demonstrated to exhibit diverse bioactivities, including anti-inflammatory effects. However, the protective effects of porphyran against cerebral ischemia and reperfusion (IR) injury have not been investigated. The aim of this study was to examine the neuroprotective effects of porphyran against brain IR injury and its underlying mechanisms using a gerbil model of transient forebrain ischemia (IR in the forebrain), which results in pyramidal cell (principal neuron) loss in the cornu ammonis 1 (CA1) subregion of the hippocampus on day 4 after IR. Porphyran (25 and 50 mg/kg) was orally administered daily for one week prior to IR. Pretreatment with 50 mg/kg of porphyran, but not 25 mg/kg, significantly attenuated locomotor hyperactivity and protected pyramidal cells located in the CA1 area from IR injury. The pretreatment with 50 mg/kg of porphyran significantly suppressed the IR-induced activation and proliferation of microglia in the CA1 subregion. Additionally, the pretreatment significantly inhibited the overexpressions of nucleotide-binding domain, leucine-rich-containing family, pyrin domain-containing protein-3 (NLRP3) inflammasome complex, and pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin 1 beta and interleukin 18) induced by IR in the CA1 subregion. Overall, our findings suggest that porphyran exerts neuroprotective effects against brain IR injury, potentially by reducing the reaction (activation) and proliferation of microglia and reducing NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated neuroinflammation. Aucubin, an iridoid glycoside, possesses beneficial bioactivities in many diseases, but little is known about its neuroprotective effects and mechanisms in brain ischemia and reperfusion (IR) injury. This study evaluated whether aucubin exhibited neuroprotective effects against IR injury in the hippocampal CA1 region through anti-inflammatory activity in gerbils. Aucubin (10 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally once a day for one week prior to IR. Neuroprotective effects of aucubin were assessed by neuronal nuclei (NeuN) immunofluorescence and Floro-Jade C (FJC) histofluorescence. Microgliosis and astrogliosis were evaluated using immunohistochemistry with anti-ionized calcium binding adapter protein 1 (Iba1) and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). Protein levels of proinflammatory cytokines interleukin1 beta (IL1β) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα) were assayed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and Western blot. Changes in toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) signaling pathway were assessed by measuring levels of TLR4, inhibitor of NF-κB alpha (IκBα), and NF-κB p65 using Western blot. Aucubin treatment protected pyramidal neurons from IR injury. IR-induced microgliosis and astrogliosis were suppressed by aucubin treatment. IR-induced increases in IL1β and TNFα levels were significantly alleviated by the treatment. IR-induced upregulation of TLR4 and downregulation of IκBα were significantly prevented by aucubin treatment, and IR-induced nuclear translocation of NF-κB was reversed by aucubin treatment. Briefly, aucubin exhibited neuroprotective effects against brain IR injury, which might be related to the attenuation of neuroinflammation through inhibiting the TLR-4/NF-κB signaling pathway. Ablative doses of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) may improve pancreatic cancer outcomes but may carry greater potential for gastrointestinal toxicity. Rucosopasem, an investigational selective dismutase mimetic that converts superoxide to hydrogen peroxide, can potentially increase tumor control of SBRT without compromising safety. GRECO-2 is a phase II, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of rucosopasem in combination with SBRT in locally advanced or borderline resectable pancreatic cancer. Patients will be randomized to rucosopasem 100 mg or placebo via intravenous infusion over 15 min, before each SBRT fraction (5 × 10 Gy). The primary end point is overall survival. Secondary end points include progression-free survival, locoregional control, time to metastasis, surgical resection rate, best overall response, in-field local response and acute and long-term toxicity. The use of high doses of radiation delivered directly to tumors (stereotactic body radiation therapy [SBRT]) may improve survival compared with lower doses of radiation in patients with pancreatic cancer, but it may increase side effects. Rucosopasem, an investigational new drug being developed, can potentially improve the ability of SBRT to treat tumors without decreasing safety. In a previous study, median overall survival was improved when patients were treated with SBRT plus avasopasem, a drug that works the same way as rucosopasem. GRECO-2 is a clinical trial of rucosopasem used in combination with SBRT for treatment of localized pancreatic cancer. Patients will be randomly selected to receive either rucosopasem 100 mg or placebo via intravenous infusion over 15 min, before each SBRT treatment. The main result being studied is overall survival. Body mass index (BMI), as an important risk factor related to metabolic disease. However, in some studies higher BMI was emphasized as a beneficial factor in the clinical course of patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in a concept known as the "BMI paradox." The purpose of this study was to investigate how clinical outcomes of patients treated for AMI differed according to BMI levels. A total of 10,566 patients in the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry-National Institutes of Health (KAMIR-NIH) from May 2010 to June 2015 were divided into three BMI groups (group 1: BMI < 22 kg/m2, group 2: ≥ 22 and < 26 kg/m2, and group 3: ≥ 26 kg/m2). The primary outcome was major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular event (MACCE) at 3 years of follow-up. At 1 year of follow-up, the incidence of MACCE in group 1 was 10.1% of that in group 3, with a hazard ratio (HR) of 2.27, and 6.5% in group 2, with an HR of 1.415. This tendency continued up to 3 years of follow-up. The study demonstrated that lower incidence of MACCE in the high BMI group of Asians during the 3-year follow-up period compared to the low BMI group. Simple Summary: Previous early phase studies demonstrated the modest but durable anticancer activity of nivolumab plus regorafenib in mismatch repair-proficient (pMMR) refractory colorectal cancer, suggesting the necessity of predictive biomarkers for better patient selection. The authors evaluated clinicopathological characteristics and the tumor microenvironment to identify potential biomarkers. Pretreatment albumin, MIP-1β, non-liver metastatic disease and regulatory T-cell infiltration may be potential predictive biomarkers of regorafenib/nivolumab in pMMR colorectal cancer. Previously, we reported the modest but durable anticancer activity of regorafenib/nivolumab in mismatch repair-proficient (pMMR) refractory colorectal cancer in our I/Ib study. Our finding suggests the necessity of biomarkers for better selection of patients. Baseline clinical and pathological characteristics, blood and tumor samples from the patients in the trial were collected and evaluated to discover potential biomarkers. The obtained samples were assessed for immunohistochemistry, ELISA and RNA sequencing. Their correlations with clinical outcome were analyzed. A high albumin level was significantly associated with improved progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS) and disease control. Non-liver metastatic disease showed prolonged PFS and OS. Low regulatory T-cell (Treg) infiltration correlated with prolonged PFS. Low MIP-1β was associated with durable response and improved OS significantly. Upregulation of 23 genes, including CAPN9, NAPSA and ROS1, was observed in the durable disease control group, and upregulation of 10 genes, including MRPS18A, MAIP1 and CMTR2, was associated with a statistically significant improvement of PFS. This study suggests that pretreatment albumin, MIP-1β, non-liver metastatic disease and Treg infiltration may be potential predictive biomarkers of regorafenib/nivolumab in pMMR colorectal cancer. CCT2 is a eukaryotic chaperonin TCP-1 ring complex subunit that mediates protein folding, autophagosome incorporation, and protein aggregation. In this study, we investigated the effects of CCT on oxidative and ischemic damage using in vitro and in vivo experimental models. The Tat-CCT2 fusion protein was efficiently delivered into HT22 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner, and the delivered protein was gradually degraded in HT22 cells. Incubation with Tat-CCT2 significantly ameliorated the 200 µM hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced reduction in cell viability in a concentration-dependent manner, and 8 µM Tat-CCT2 treatment significantly alleviated H2O2-induced DNA fragmentation and reactive oxygen species formation in HT22 cells. In gerbils, CCT2 protein was efficiently delivered into pyramidal cells in CA1 region by intraperitoneally injecting 0.5 mg/kg Tat-CCT2, as opposed to control CCT2. In addition, treatment with 0.2 or 0.5 mg/kg Tat-CCT2 mitigated ischemia-induced hyperlocomotive activity 1 d after ischemia and confirmed the neuroprotective effects by NeuN immunohistochemistry in the hippocampal CA1 region 4 d after ischemia. Tat-CCT2 treatment significantly reduced the ischemia-induced activation of astrocytes and microglia in the hippocampal CA1 region 4 d after ischemia. Furthermore, treatment with 0.2 or 0.5 mg/kg Tat-CCT2 facilitated ischemia-induced autophagic activity and ameliorated ischemia-induced autophagic initiation in the hippocampus 1 d after ischemia based on western blotting for LC3B and Beclin-1, respectively. Levels of p62, an autophagic substrate, significantly increased in the hippocampus following treatment with Tat-CCT2. These results suggested that Tat-CCT2 exerts neuroprotective effects against oxidative stress and ischemic damage by promoting the autophagic removal of damaged proteins or organelles. Aims: Although various non‐invasive cardiac examinations are known to be predictive of long‐term outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF), combining them properly would provide synergism. We aimed to show that non‐invasive cardiac assessments targeting left ventricular filling pressure (LVFP), left atrial remodelling, and exercise capacity would provide better prognostication in combination. Methods and results: This prospective observational study included consecutive hospitalized stage A–C HF patients evaluated with N‐terminal pro‐B‐type natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP), echocardiography including two‐dimensional speckle tracking, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. According to NT‐proBNP and echocardiographic semi‐quantitative LVFP grading (Echo‐LVFP), patients were classified into three LVFP groups: normal range of both Echo‐LVFP and NT‐proBNP (Group 1), normal range of Echo‐LVFP but elevated NT‐proBNP (Group 2), and elevated Echo‐LVFP and NT‐proBNP (Group 3). The adverse outcome was defined as a composite of cardiovascular death, non‐fatal acute coronary syndrome, acute stroke, or HF‐related hospitalization. Among 224 HF patients (mean age of 63.8 ± 11.6 years, 158 men) analysed, 160 (71.4%) had ischaemic aetiology. During the follow‐up of 18.6 ± 9.8 months, event‐free survival in Group 2 (n = 56, age of 65.4 ± 12.4) was better than that in Group 3 (n = 45, age of 68.5 ± 11.5) but worse than that in Group 1 (n = 123, mean age of 61.4 ± 10.5) (log‐rank P < 0.001). Mechanical left atrial dysfunction (peak longitudinal strain <28%) (adjusted hazard ratio 5.69, 95% confidence interval 1.06–4.48) and limited exercise capacity (peak VO2 per +5 mL/kg/min) (adjusted hazard ratio 0.63, 95% confidence interval 0.46–0.87) were also predictable adverse outcomes. Serial addition of peak VO2 and left atrial strain to the model incrementally enhanced the predictive power of LVFP‐based risk stratification for adverse outcomes. Conclusions: The combination of NT‐proBNP and Echo‐LVFP could be used to predict adverse outcomes in patients with HF of various stages. Left atrial mechanics and exercise capacity are incremental to prognostication. Non‐invasive test findings could be strategically combined to provide an integrative profile of cardiac performance. WDR11, a gene associated with Kallmann syndrome, is important in reproductive system development but molecular understanding of its action remains incomplete. We previously reported that Wdr11-deficient embryos exhibit defective ciliogenesis and developmental defects associated with Hedgehog (HH) signalling. Here we demonstrate that WDR11 is required for primordial germ cell (PGC) development, regulating canonical and noncanonical HH signalling in parallel. Loss of WDR11 disrupts PGC motility and proliferation driven by the cilia-independent, PTCH2/GAS1-dependent noncanonical HH pathway. WDR11 modulates the growth of somatic cells surrounding PGCs by regulating the cilia-dependent, PTCH1/BOC-dependent canonical HH pathway. We reveal that PTCH1/BOC or PTCH2/GAS1 receptor context dictates SMO localisation inside or outside of cilia, respectively, and loss of WDR11 affects the signalling responses of SMO in both situations. We show that GAS1 is induced by PTCH2-specific HH signalling, which is lost in the absence of WDR11. We also provide evidence supporting a role for WDR11 in ciliogenesis through regulation of anterograde intraflagellar transport potentially via its interaction with IFT20. Statin therapy is essential for secondary prevention in patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). However, the effects of statin therapy in patients receiving chronic dialysis remain uncertain. We aimed to evaluate the effect of statin therapy on long-term mortality in patients on dialysis after a first-time ASCVD. Patients receiving maintenance dialysis aged ≥ 18 years with a first-time ASCVD event between 2013 and 2018 were included in the Korean National Health Insurance Service database. Associations of statin use with long-term mortality were examined using Cox proportional hazards regression models adjusted for demographics and comorbidities. Among 17,242 patients on dialysis, 9611 (55.7%) were prescribed statins after a first-time ASCVD event. Among statin users, 7376 (76.7%) used moderate-intensity statins. During a mean follow-up of 32.6 ± 20.9 months, statin use was associated with a lower risk of all-cause mortality than statin nonuse after adjusting for confounding factors (hazard ratio [HR]: 0.92; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.88–0.97; p = 0.0009). Despite a lack of evidence, more than half of patients on dialysis were prescribed statins after an ASCVD event. Cuprizone causes consistent demyelination and oligodendrocyte damage in the mouse brain. Cu,Zn-superoxide dismutase 1 (SOD1) has neuroprotective potential against various neurological disorders, such as transient cerebral ischemia and traumatic brain injury. In this study, we investigated whether SOD1 has neuroprotective effects against cuprizone-induced demyelination and adult hippocampal neurogenesis in C57BL/6 mice, using the PEP-1-SOD1 fusion protein to facilitate the delivery of SOD1 protein into hippocampal neurons. Eight weeks feeding of cuprizone-supplemented (0.2%) diets caused a significant decrease in myelin basic protein (MBP) expression in the stratum lacunosum-moleculare of the CA1 region, the polymorphic layer of the dentate gyrus, and the corpus callosum, while ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 (Iba-1)-immunoreactive microglia showed activated and phagocytic phenotypes. In addition, cuprizone treatment reduced proliferating cells and neuroblasts as shown using Ki67 and doublecortin immunostaining. Treatment with PEP-1-SOD1 to normal mice did not show any significant changes in MBP expression and Iba-1-immunoreactive microglia. However, Ki67-positive proliferating cells and doublecortin-immunoreactive neuroblasts were significantly decreased. Simultaneous treatment with PEP-1-SOD1 and cuprizone-supplemented diets did not ameliorate the MBP reduction in these regions, but mitigated the increase of Iba-1 immunoreactivity in the corpus callosum and alleviated the reduction of MBP in corpus callosum and proliferating cells, not neuroblasts, in the dentate gyrus. In conclusion, PEP-1-SOD1 treatment only has partial effects to reduce cuprizone-induced demyelination and microglial activation in the hippocampus and corpus callosum and has minimal effects on proliferating cells in the dentate gyrus. Background: Although statins are an effective strategy for the secondary prevention of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in the general population, the benefits for dialysis patients are controversial. We sought to assess trends of statin use and evaluate outcomes of statin therapy in dialysis patients with different types of ASCVD. Methods: This nationwide retrospective population-based cohort study using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service included adult patients (aged ≥ 18 years) undergoing chronic dialysis who had an initial ASCVD event in the time period of 2013 to 2018. Annual trends of statin use according to age, sex, and ASCVD types were analyzed. The association between 1-year mortality and statin use was examined using multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression analyses. Results: Among 17,242 subjects, 9,611(55.7%) patients were statin users. The overall prevalence of statin use increased from 52.9% in 2013 to 57.7% in 2018; the majority (77%) of dialysis patients were prescribed moderate-intensity statins. The proportions of low- or moderate-intensity statin use were similar, but high-intensity statin use increased from 5.7% in 2013 to 10.5% in 2018. The use of the statin/ezetimibe combination has gradually increased since 2016. Statin use was independently associated with the reduced 1-year all-cause mortality after adjusting for confounding factors (hazard ratio [HR] 0.89, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.80–0.96, P = 0.004). Conclusion: The prevalence of statin prescriptions in dialysis patients after ASCVD event increased from 2013 to 2018. Most patients received moderate-intensity statin. However, high-intensity statin and statin/ezetimibe combination therapy has remarkably increased. Statin use was associated with decreased 1-year all-cause mortality in dialysis patients with ASCVD. It is well known that oxidative stress is highly associated with Parkinson's disease (PD), and biliverdin reductase A (BLVRA) is known to have antioxidant properties against oxidative stress. In this study, we developed a novel N‐acetylgalactosamine kinase (GK2) protein transduction domain (PTD) derived from adenosine A2A and fused with BLVRA to determine whether the GK2‐BLVRA fusion protein could protect dopaminergic neuronal cells (SH‐SY5Y) from oxidative stress in vitro and in vivo using a PD animal model. GK2‐BLVRA was transduced into various cells, including SH‐SY5Y cells, without cytotoxic effects, and this fusion protein protected SH‐SY5Y cells and reduced reactive oxygen species production and DNA damage after 1‐methyl‐4‐phenylpyridinium (MPP+) exposure. GK2‐BLVRA suppressed mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK) activation and modulated apoptosis‐related protein (Bcl‐2, Bax, cleaved Caspase‐3 and ‐9) expression levels. In the PD animal model, GK2‐BLVRA transduced into the substantia nigra crossed the blood–brain barrier and markedly reduced dopaminergic neuronal cell death in 1‐methyl‐4‐phenyl‐1,2,3,6‐tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)‐induced animals. These results indicate that our novel PTD GK‐2 is useful for the transduction of protein, and GK2‐BLVRA exhibits a beneficial effect against dopaminergic neuronal cell death in vitro and in vivo, suggesting that BLVRA can be used as a therapeutic agent for PD. Reinforcement learning is one of the artificial intelligence methods that enable robots to judge and operate situations on their own by learning to perform tasks. Previous reinforcement learning research has mainly focused on tasks performed by individual robots; however, everyday tasks, such as balancing tables, often require cooperation between two individuals to avoid injury when moving. In this research, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-based technique for robots to perform a table-balancing task in cooperation with a human. The cooperative robot proposed in this paper recognizes human behavior to balance the table. This recognition is achieved by utilizing the robot's camera to take an image of the state of the table, then the table-balance action is performed afterward. Deep Q-network (DQN) is a deep reinforcement learning technology applied to cooperative robots. As a result of learning table balancing, on average, the cooperative robot showed a 90% optimal policy convergence rate in 20 runs of training with optimal hyperparameters applied to DQN-based techniques. Background: This review aims to describe the systemic treatment options for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma and includes a summary of the current treatments as well as the ongoing clinical trials which may be efficacious in the treatment of this aggressive malignancy. Methods: A literature review was performed using MEDLINE/PubMed between August 1996 and February 2023. The reviewed studies are categorized into these categories: current standard of care treatments, targeted therapies, immunotherapy and clinical trials. The current treatment modality for the treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer is mainly systemic chemotherapy. Results: The introduction of polychemotherapy regimens including gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel and FOLFIRINOX (oxaliplatin, irinotecan, folinic acid and fluorouracil) has improved the clinical outcome of advanced pancreatic cancer. For further improvement in clinical outcomes, several novel approaches have been extensively studied in pancreatic cancer. The review discusses the current standard chemotherapy regimen and the novel treatment options in the field. Conclusions: While there are novel treatments being explored for metastatic pancreatic, it remains a debilitating and aggressive disease with high mortality that warrants continued efforts to advance therapeutic options. Aucubin is an iridoid glycoside that displays various pharmacological actions including antioxidant activity. However, there are few reports available on the neuroprotective effects of aucubin against ischemic brain injury. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate whether aucubin protected against damage to hippocampal function induced by forebrain ischemia-reperfusion injury (fIRI) in gerbils, and to examine whether aucubin produced neuroprotection in the hippocampus against fIRI and to explore its mechanisms by histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and Western analysis. Gerbils were given intraperitoneal injections of aucubin at doses of 1, 5, and 10 mg/kg, respectively, once a day for seven days before fIRI. As assessed by the passive avoidance test, short-term memory function following fIRI significantly declined, whereas the decline in short-term memory function due to fIRI was ameliorated by pretreatment with 10 mg/kg, but not 1 or 5 mg/kg, of aucubin. Most of the pyramidal cells (principal cells) of the hippocampus died in the Cornu Ammonis 1 (CA1) area four days after fIRI. Treatment with 10 mg/kg, but not 1 or 5 mg/kg, of aucubin protected the pyramidal cells from IRI. The treatment with 10 mg/kg of aucubin significantly reduced IRI-induced superoxide anion production, oxidative DNA damage, and lipid peroxidation in the CA1 pyramidal cells. In addition, the aucubin treatment significantly increased the expressions of superoxide dismutases (SOD1 and SOD2) in the pyramidal cells before and after fIRI. Furthermore, the aucubin treatment significantly enhanced the protein expression levels of neurotrophic factors, such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor and insulin-like growth factor-I, in the hippocampal CA1 area before and after IRI. Collectively, in this experiment, pretreatment with aucubin protected CA1 pyramidal cells from forebrain IRI by attenuating oxidative stress and increasing neurotrophic factors. Malate dehydrogenase (MDH) plays an important role in the conversion of malate to oxaloacetate during the tricarboxylic acid cycle. In this study, we examined the role of cytoplasmic MDH (MDH1) in hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced oxidative stress in HT22 cells and ischemia-induced neuronal damage in the gerbil hippocampus. The Tat-MDH1 fusion protein was constructed to enable the delivery of MDH1 into the intracellular space and penetration of the blood–brain barrier. Tat-MDH1, but not MDH1 control protein, showed significant cellular delivery in HT22 cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner and gradual intracellular degradation in HT22 cells. Treatment with 4 μM Tat-MDH1 significantly ameliorated 200 μM H2O2-induced cell death, DNA fragmentation, and reactive oxygen species formation in HT22 cells. Transient increases in MDH1 immunoreactivity were detected in the hippocampal CA1 region 6–12 h after ischemia, but MDH1 activity significantly decreased 2 days after ischemia. Supplementation of Tat-MDH1 immediately after ischemia alleviated ischemia-induced hyperlocomotion and neuronal damage 1 and 4 days after ischemia. In addition, treatment with Tat-MDH1 significantly ameliorated the increases in hydroperoxides, lipid peroxidation, and reactive oxygen species 2 days after ischemia. Tat-MDH1 treatment maintained the redox status of the glutathione system in the hippocampus 2 days after ischemia. Simple Summary: Risperidone has been reported to show other beneficial effects instead of its original effectiveness. This experiment was conducted for the effects of risperidone on renal ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI) following cardiac arrest. The increased levels of serum blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and lactate dehydrogenase after cardiac arrest were significantly decreased by risperidone treatment. IRI-induced histopathological injury was attenuated by risperidone administration, showing that pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine immunoreactivities were apparently controlled by risperidone administration. The kidney, one of major organs in the body, is susceptible to ischemia and reperfusion; however, there are few studies on renal ischemia and reperfusion injury (IRI) following the return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) after cardiac arrest. Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic drug, has been discovered to have some beneficial effects beyond its original effectiveness. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate possible therapeutic effects of risperidone on renal IRI following cardiac arrest. Rats were subjected to cardiac arrest induced by asphyxia for five minutes followed by ROSC. When serum biochemical analyses were examined, the levels of serum blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and lactate dehydrogenase were dramatically increased after cardiac arrest, but they were significantly reduced by risperidone administration. Histopathology was examined using hematoxylin and eosin staining. Histopathological injury induced by cardiac arrest was apparently attenuated by risperidone administration. Furthermore, alterations in pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α) and anti-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-4 and interleukin-13) were examined by immunohistochemistry. Pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine immunoreactivities were gradually and markedly increased and decreased, respectively, in the kidneys following cardiac arrest; however, risperidone administration after cardiac arrest significantly attenuated the increased pro-inflammatory cytokine immunoreactivities and the decreased anti-inflammatory cytokine immunoreactivities. Glutathione S-transferase pi (GSTpi) is a member of the GST family and plays many critical roles in cellular processes, including anti-oxidative and signal transduction. However, the role of anti-oxidant enzyme GSTpi against dopaminergic neuronal cell death has not been fully investigated. In the present study, we investigated the roles of cell permeable Tat-GSTpi fusion protein in a SH-SY5Y cell and a Parkinson's disease (PD) mouse model. In the 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+)-exposed cells, Tat-GSTpi protein decreased DNA damage and reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. Furthermore, this fusion protein increased cell viability by regulating MAPKs, Bcl-2, and Bax signaling. In addition, Tat-GSTpi protein delivered into the substantia nigra (SN) of mice brains protected dopaminergic neuronal cell death in the 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP)-induced PD animal model. Our results indicate that the Tat-GSTpi protein inhibited cell death from MPP+- and MPTP-induced damage, suggesting that it plays a protective role during the loss of dopaminergic neurons in PD and that it could help to identify the mechanism responsible for neurodegenerative diseases, including PD. In traditional herbal medicine, the Polyscias fruticosa has been frequently used for the treatment of ischemia and inflammation. Oxidative stress mediated by elevated glutamate levels cause neuronal cell death in ischemia and various neurodegenerative diseases. However, so far, the neuroprotective effects of this plant extract against glutamate-mediated cell death have not been investigated in cell models. The current study investigates the neuroprotective effects of ethanol extracts of Polyscias fruticosa (EEPF) and elucidates the underlying molecular mechanisms of EEPFs relevant to neuroprotection against glutamate-mediated cell death. The oxidative stress-mediated cell death was induced by 5 mM glutamate treatment in HT22 cells. The cell viability was measured by a tetrazolium-based EZ-Cytox reagent and Calcein-AM fluorescent dye. Intracellular Ca2+ and ROS levels were measured by fluorescent dyes, fluo-3 AM and 2′,7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetate (DCF-DA), respectively. Protein expressions of p-AKT, BDNF, p-CREB, Bax, Bcl-2, and apoptosis-inducing factor (AIF) were determined by western blot analysis. The apoptotic cell death was measured by flow cytometry. The in vivo efficacy of EEPF was evaluated using the Mongolian gerbil mouse by surgery-induced brain ischemia. EEPF treatment showed a neuroprotective effect against glutamate-induced cell death. The EEPF co-treatment reduced the intracellular Ca2+ and ROS and apoptotic cell death. Furthermore, it recovered the p-AKT, p-CREB, BDNF, and Bcl-2 levels decreased by glutamate. The EEPF co-treatment suppressed the activation of apoptotic Bax, the nuclear translocation of AIF, and mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway proteins (ERK1/2, p38, JNK). Further, EEPF treatment significantly rescued the degenerative neurons in the ischemia-induced Mongolian gerbil in vivo model. EEPF exhibited neuroprotective properties that suppress glutamate-mediated neurotoxicity. The underlying mechanism of EEPF is increasing the level of p-AKT, p-CREB, BDNF, and Bcl-2 associated with cell survival. Glutathione S-transferase alpha 2 (GSTA2), a member of the glutathione S-transferase family, plays the role of cellular detoxification against oxidative stress. Although oxidative stress is related to ischemic injury, the role of GSTA2 against ischemia has not been elucidated. Thus, we studied whether GSTA2 prevents ischemic injury by using the PEP-1-GSTA2 protein which has a cell-permeable protein transduction domain. We revealed that cell-permeable PEP-1-GSTA2 transduced into HT-22 cells and markedly protected cell death via the inhibition of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and DNA damage induced by oxidative stress. Additionally, transduced PEP-1-GSTA2 promoted mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), and nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) activation. Furthermore, PEP-1-GSTA2 regulated Bcl-2, Bax, cleaved Caspase-3 and -9 expression protein levels. An in vivo ischemic animal model, PEP-1-GSTA2, markedly prevented the loss of hippocampal neurons and reduced the activation of microglia and astrocytes. These findings indicate that PEP-1-GSTA2 suppresses hippocampal cell death by regulating the MAPK and apoptotic signaling pathways. Cardiac arrest (CA) and return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), a global ischemia and reperfusion event, lead to neuronal damage and/or death in the spinal cord as well as the brain. Hypothermic therapy is reported to protect neurons from damage and improve hindlimb paralysis after resuscitation in a rat model of CA induced by asphyxia. In this study, we investigated roles of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) in the lumbar spinal cord protected by therapeutic hypothermia in a rat model of asphyxial CA. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to seven minutes of asphyxial CA (induced by injection of 2 mg/kg vecuronium bromide) and hypothermia (four hours of cooling, 33 ± 0.5 °C). Survival rate, hindlimb motor function, histopathology, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry were examined at 12, 24, and 48 h after CA/ROSC. The rats of the CA/ROSC and hypothermia-treated groups had an increased survival rate and showed an attenuated hindlimb paralysis and a mild damage/death of motor neurons located in the anterior horn of the lumbar spinal cord compared with those of the CA/ROSC and normothermia-treated groups. In the CA/ROSC and hypothermia-treated groups, expressions of cytoplasmic and nuclear Nrf2 and HO-1 were significantly higher in the anterior horn compared with those of the CA/ROSC and normothermia-treated groups, showing that cytoplasmic and nuclear Nrf2 was expressed in both motor neurons and astrocytes. Moreover, in the CA/ROSC and hypothermia-treated group, interleukin-1β (IL-1β, a pro-inflammatory cytokine) expressed in the motor neurons was significantly reduced, and astrocyte damage was apparently attenuated compared with those found in the CA/ROSC and normothermia group. Taken together, our results indicate that hypothermic therapy after CA/ROSC attenuates CA-induced hindlimb paralysis by protecting motor neurons in the lumbar spinal cord via activating the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and attenuating pro-inflammation and astrocyte damage (reactive astrogliosis). Silk sericin is a degumming product used by the silk industry. The degumming process can affect the protein structure and molecular weight of silk sericin. The present study examined how pretreatment with 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR) affects the biomedical properties of silk sericin. Before the degumming process, silkworm cocoons were treated with 4HR solution. The protein structure of the final degumming product was evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy. Untreated silk sericin (S) and silk sericin pretreated with 4HR (S+4HR) were added to RAW264.7 cells, and the expression of BMP-2 was determined. The bone-regenerating capacity of S+4HR was evaluated using the critical-sized rat calvarial defect model. Compared with S, S+4HR showed an increase in β-sheet structures. Administration of S+4HR to RAW264.7 cells increased expression of BMP-2, mainly via the TLR-mediated signaling pathway. Bone volume, as measured by micro-computerized tomography, was significantly greater in the S+4HR group than in the S, gelatin alone, and unfilled control groups (p < 0.05 each). Expression of BMP-2 and runx2 in tissue specimens was significantly higher following treatment with S+4HR than with S (p < 0.05). Taken together, these findings show that 4HR pretreatment before the degumming process increased the β-sheet structure of silk sericin, as well as inducing BMP-2 expression and bone regeneration ability. Despite efforts to isolate industrially valuable Xe (xenon) and Kr (krypton), porous materials that satisfy high selectivity and uptake and the proper structural integrity in wet environments remain underdeveloped. We report an ultramicroporous metal–organic framework (MOF), Ni(AIN)2 (HAIN = 3-aminoisonicotinic acid), which is favorable for the preferential adsorption of Xe. Notably, the amino groups form intra- and inter-net hydrogen bonds within the Ni(AIN)2 structure, imparting structural stability even under wet conditions. Henry's selectivity and the Xe uptake at 0.2 bar were respectively 23.19 and 57.33 cm3 g−1, falling into an ideal performance regime. Breakthrough experiments showed that under dry and humid conditions, the dynamic separation efficiency of Ni(AIN)2 was maintained without any structural collapse. Thus, we provide a feasible design strategy for MOF adsorbents to achieve the desired Xe uptake, Xe/Kr selectivity, and structural stability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We aimed to examine the psychosocial well-being in the pancreas cancer patient-caregiver dyad, and determine patient and caregiver characteristics that predict caregiver distress. This was a cross-sectional, observational study. Demographics and caregiving characteristics were gathered from patients and caregivers. Caregivers completed validated instruments investigating anxiety, depression, perceived stress and caregiver burden. Over a period of eleven months, 128 patient-caregiver dyads were enrolled. Patient and caregiver distress scores were not associated with patient clinical disease burden. Patient distress was a significant predictor of concurrent caregiver distress, anxiety, depression, and perceived burden. Younger caregivers were also associated with higher caregiver anxiety and perceived burden. Additionally, number of caregiving activities and caregiver overall health status were predictors of concurrent caregiver depression and perceived stress. Certain pancreatic cancer patient and caregiver variables may negatively impact the well-being of caregivers. Research reports using animal models of ischemic insults have demonstrated that oxcarbazepine (a carbamazepine analog: one of the anticonvulsant compounds) extends neuroprotective effects against cerebral or forebrain injury induced by ischemia and reperfusion. However, research on protective effects against ischemia and reperfusion cerebellar injury induced by cardiac arrest (CA) and the return of spontaneous circulation has been poor. Rats were assigned to four groups as follows: (Groups 1 and 2) sham asphyxial CA and vehicle- or oxcarbazepine-treated, and (Groups 3 and 4) CA and vehicle- or oxcarbazepine-treated. Vehicle (0.3% dimethyl sulfoxide/saline) or oxcarbazepine (200 mg/kg) was administered intravenously ten minutes after the return of spontaneous circulation. In this study, CA was induced by asphyxia using vecuronium bromide (2 mg/kg). We conducted immunohistochemistry for calbindin D-28kDa and Fluoro-Jade B histofluorescence to examine Purkinje cell death induced by CA. In addition, immunohistochemistry for 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal (4HNE) was carried out to investigate CA-induced oxidative stress, and immunohistochemistry for Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase (SOD1) and Mn-superoxide dismutase (SOD2) was performed to examine changes in endogenous antioxidant enzymes. Oxcarbazepine treatment after CA significantly increased the survival rate and improved neurological deficit when compared with vehicle-treated rats with CA (survival rates ≥ 63.6 versus 6.5%), showing that oxcarbazepine treatment dramatically protected cerebellar Purkinje cells from ischemia and reperfusion injury induced by CA. The salvation of the Purkinje cells from ischemic injury by oxcarbazepine treatment paralleled a dramatic reduction in 4HNE (an end-product of lipid peroxidation) and increased or maintained the endogenous antioxidant enzymes (SOD1 and SOD2). In brief, this study shows that therapeutic treatment with oxcarbazepine after CA apparently saved cerebellar neurons (Purkinje cells) from CA-induced neuronal death by attenuating oxidative stress and suggests that oxcarbazepine can be utilized as a therapeutic medicine for ischemia and reperfusion brain (cerebellar) injury induced by CA. Background: ATPase family AAA‐domain containing protein 3A (ATAD3A) is a nuclear encoded mitochondrial membrane protein that spans inner and outer membrane, and it has been shown to regulate mitochondrial dynamics and cholesterol metabolism. Since the mitochondrial functions have been implicated for osteogenic differentiation, a role of ATAD3A in skeletal development has been investigated. Results: Mesenchyme‐specific ATAD3 knockout mice displayed severe defects in skeletal development. Additionally, osteoblast‐specific deletion of ATAD3 in mice caused significant reduction in bone mass, while cartilage‐specific ATAD3 knockout mice did not show any significant phenotypes. Consistent with these in vivo findings, ATAD3A knockdown impaired mitochondrial morphology and function in calvarial pre‐osteoblast cultures, which, in turn, suppressed osteogenic differentiation in vitro. Conclusions: The current findings suggest that ATAD3A plays a crucial role in mitochondria homeostasis, which is required for osteogenic differentiation during skeletal development. Carboxyl terminus of Hsc70-interacting protein (CHIP) is highly conserved and is linked to the connection between molecular chaperones and proteasomes to degrade chaperone-bound proteins. In this study, we synthesized the transactivator of transcription (Tat)-CHIP fusion protein for effective delivery into the brain and examined the effects of CHIP against oxidative stress in HT22 cells induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) treatment and ischemic damage in gerbils by 5 min of occlusion of both common carotid arteries, to elucidate the possibility of using Tat-CHIP as a therapeutic agent against ischemic damage. Tat-CHIP was effectively delivered to HT22 hippocampal cells in a concentration- and time-dependent manner, and protein degradation was confirmed in HT22 cells. In addition, Tat-CHIP significantly ameliorated the oxidative damage induced by 200 μM H2O2 and decreased DNA fragmentation and reactive oxygen species formation. In addition, Tat-CHIP showed neuroprotective effects against ischemic damage in a dose-dependent manner and significant ameliorative effects against ischemia-induced glial activation, oxidative stress (hydroperoxide and malondialdehyde), pro-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α) release, and glutathione and its redox enzymes (glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase) in the hippocampus. Background: This trial explores SM‐88 used with methoxsalen, phenytoin, and sirolimus (MPS) in pretreated metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (mPDAC) Methods: Forty‐nine patients were randomized to daily 460 or 920 mg oral SM‐88 with MPS (SM‐88 Regimen). The primary endpoint was objective response rate (RECIST 1.1). Results: Thirty‐seven patients completed ≥ one cycle of SM‐88 Regimen (response evaluable population). Disease control rate (DCR), overall survival (OS), and progression‐free survival (PFS) did not differ significantly between dose levels. Stable disease was achieved in 9/37 patients (DCR, 24.3%); there were no complete or partial responses. Quality‐of‐life (QOL) was maintained and trended in favor of 920 mg. SM‐88 Regimen was well tolerated; a single patient (1/49) had related grade 3 and 4 adverse events, which later resolved. In the intention‐to‐treat population of 49 patients, the median overall survival (mOS) was 3.4 months (95% CI: 2.7–4.9 months). Those treated in the second line had an mOS of 8.1 months and a median PFS of 3.8 months. Survival was higher for patients with stable versus progressive disease (any line; mOS: 10.6 months vs. 3.9 months; p = 0.01). Conclusions: SM‐88 Regimen has a favorable safety profile with encouraging QOL effects, disease control, and survival trends. Laminarin is a polysaccharide isolated from brown marine algae and has a wide range of bioactivities, including immunoregulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. However, the effects of laminarin on atopic dermatitis have not been demonstrated. This study investigated the potential effects of topical administration of laminarin using a Balb/c mouse model of oxazolone-induced atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions. Our results showed that topical administration of laminarin to the ear of the mice improved the severity of the dermatitis, including swelling. Histological analysis revealed that topical laminarin significantly decreased the thickening of the epidermis and dermis and the infiltration of mast cells in the skin lesion. Serum immunoglobulin E levels were also significantly decreased by topical laminarin. Additionally, topical laminarin significantly suppressed protein levels of oxazolone-induced proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin-1β, tumor necrosis factor-α, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and macrophage inflammatory protein-1α in the skin lesion. These results indicate that topical administration of laminarin can alleviate oxazolone-induced atopic dermatitis by inhibiting hyperproduction of IgE, mast cell infiltration, and expressions of proinflammatory cytokines. Estimation of sea surface salinity (SSS) using the Geostationary Ocean Color Imager-II (GOCI-II) measurements in the East China Sea (ECS) was conducted from July to September of 2021, when the first-year observations are available after GOCI-II launch in 2020. The SSS in the ECS is mainly affected by the Changjiang River plume, which varies from under 20–35 psu, and the discharged freshwater disperses from the river mouth towards Jeju Island, Korea. For the SSS estimation, a multi-layer perceptron neural network (MPNN) was employed to train the nonlinear processes of GOCI-II spectral measurements as inputs and the SSS of Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) as the target. Because GOCI-II has four additional spectral bands (380, 510, 620 and 709 nm) compared to the bands in the first generation of GOCI (413, 443, 490, 555, 660 and 680 nm), we developed a new MPNN algorithm and analysed (1) how much these new spectral measurements increase SSS accuracy, and (2) how the enhanced spatial and temporal resolution of GOCI-II make SSS features different from GOCI. The first results showed that the root mean square error (RMSE) and coefficient of determination (R2) were 0.68 psu and 0.92, respectively. Furthermore, R2, when compared with in-situ measurements at the Ieodo Ocean Research Station (I-ORS), increased as much as 0.23 (0.20–0.43) for the 10-band model, which performed much better than previous 6-band model. The second result suggests how the improved spatial features at more frequent SSS measurements can be utilized to avoid low salinity intrusion into the aquafarming sites off the coast of Korea. More importantly, we elucidated why the MPNN algorithm performs better than conventional SSS estimation methods by comparing various optical properties with SSS variation; thus, the newly developed model can provide SSS not only in ECS but also low salinity water near southwest Korean coasts at hourly spatial resolution of 250 m. Long-term sea surface salinity (SSS) in the East China Sea (ECS) was estimated based on Ocean Color Climate Change Initiative (OC-CCI) data using machine learning during the summer season (June to September) from 1997 to 2021. Changjiang diluted water (CDW) in the ECS propagates northeastward and forms longitudinally-oriented ocean fronts. To determine the CDW's distribution, three fronts were investigated: (1) a CDW front based on chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl), SSS, and sea surface temperature (SST); (2) a CDW front based on sea surface density (SSD); and (3) a CDW front for nutrient distribution. The Chl fronts matched well with the SSS fronts, suggesting that Chl variation in the ECS is highly correlated with the CDW. Furthermore, the SSD fronts spatially matched well with nitrogen concentration. Sea level anomaly (SLA) variation with SSD was also detected, indicating that CDW had sufficiently large effects on SLA so that they may be detectable by altimeter measurements. This result suggests that the influence of steric height changes and the inflow from rivers are significant in the ECS. This study aimed to verify, for the first time, the need for Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) regulations as guidelines to provide pharmaceutical care services in community pharmacies in Korea. Statistical analyses were performed with demographic characteristics, institutional factors, and diversity factors of 3 pharmaceutical care services as independent variables and the favorability of GPP implementation as a dependent variable. In assessing the diversity of methods of providing pharmaceutical care services as an indicator of willingness to provide these services, this study understood such diversity as an innovative behavior that represents the efforts and willingness of pharmacists to provide better services. The results of descriptive statistics showed that most pharmacists in community pharmacy recognize that guidelines are necessary to provide better pharmaceutical care services. The statistical correlation analysis results confirmed that a greater need for guidelines was strongly related to higher GPP favorability. The institutional factors had the greatest influence on GPP favorability, rather than diversity factors of pharmaceutical care services, ultimately with the Korean perspectives to equate the GPP with the guidelines for pharmaceutical care services. Background: Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) remains the cornerstone of managing pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) of the pancreas head/neck, but it is associated with high morbidity. We hypothesize that, in absence of pancreatectomy-specific morbidity (PSM), minimally invasive PD (MIPD) provides improved short-term outcomes compared to open PD (OPD). Methods: NSQIP pancreatectomy-targeted database 2014–2019 was utilized. PSM was defined as the occurrence of delayed gastric emptying (DGE) and/or post-operative pancreatic fistula (POPF). The cohort was divided into No-PSM and PSM groups. Propensity score match was applied in each group to compare outcomes of MIPD vs. OPD. Results: 8,121 patients were selected. Patients were divided into No-PSM (N = 6267) and PSM (N = 1854) groups. In No-PSM group, we matched 1656 OPD to 552 MIPD patients. MIPD had longer operations (423 vs. 359 min; p < 0.001) but less overall morbidity (22.1% vs. 29.1%; p = 0.001) mostly attributed to less bleeding and sepsis. MIPD patients also had a one-day shorter median LOS (6 vs. 7 days; p = 0.005) and higher rates of home discharge (92.8% vs. 89.6%; p = 0.027). No difference was noted in mortality and 30-day readmission. In PSM group, 441 OPD were matched to 147 MIPD peers. MIPD had longer operations but without short-term benefits. General morbidity (61.2% vs. 61.9%), median LOS (12 vs. 12 days), mortality (2.7% vs. 1.8%), and readmission rates (32.7% vs. 26.5%) were similar. Same conclusions were drawn in the per-protocol analysis. Conclusion: PSM is common following PD for PDAC. In the absence of PSM, MIPD is associated with less postoperative morbidity and shorter LOS. Background: Mutation of p53 is a frequent event, and mutant p53 exhibits low levels of acetylation and phosphorylation. This study aimed to investigate the effect of the histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitor, 4-hexylresorcinol (4HR), on the acetylation and phosphorylation of mutant p53 carcinoma cells and its therapeutic effects in a xenograft model. Methods: To determine the effect of 4HR on the acetylation and phosphorylation of p53, western blot analysis was performed using YD-9 and YD-15 cells. p53 siRNA was used to examine whether 4HR acts in a p53-dependent or independent manner. This was evaluated using a xenograft model. Results: In in vitro experiments when the concentration of 4HR was increased, the expression levels of HDAC4, acetylated p53 (Ac-p53), and phosphorylated p53 (p-p53) increased. Transfection with TP53 siRNA successfully suppressed p53 protein and TP53 mRNA expression. When 4HR was administered to a xenograft model, the tumour expansion rate was suppressed compared with the control, and the mice exhibited a higher survival rate. Conclusions: Our findings reveal that 4HR is a potential agent that restores loss of function in mutant p53 cancer cells via acetylation and phosphorylation of p53 as well as inhibition of HDAC4. Background: The available data are not sufficient to understand the clinical impact of statin intensity in elderly patients who undergo percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) due to acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods: Using the COREA-AMI registry, we sought to compare the clinical impact of high- versus low-to-moderate-intensity statin in younger (<75 years old) and elderly (≥75 years old) patients. Of 10,719 patients, we included 8,096 patients treated with drug-eluting stents. All patients were classified into high-intensity versus low-to-moderate-intensity statin group according to statin type and dose at discharge. The primary end point was target-vessel failure (TVF), a composite of cardiovascular death, target-vessel MI, or target-lesion revascularization (TLR) from 1 month to 12 months after index PCI. Results: In younger patients, high-intensity statin showed the better clinical outcomes than low-to-moderate-intensity statin (TVF: 79 [5.4%] vs. 329 [6.8%], adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 0.76; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.59–0.99; P = 0.038). However, in elderly patients, the incidence rates of the adverse clinical outcomes were similar between two statin-intensity groups (TVF: 38 [11.4%] vs. 131 [10.6%], aHR 1.1; 95% CI 0.76–1.59; P = 0.63). Conclusions: In this AMI cohort underwent PCI, high-intensity statin showed the better 1-year clinical outcomes than low-to-moderate-intensity statin in younger patients. Meanwhile, the incidence rates of adverse clinical events between high- and low-to-moderate-intensity statin were not statistically different in elderly patients. Background: 4-Hexylresorcinol (4HR) is a food additive and class I histone deacetylase inhibitor. In this study, we examined the effects of 4HR administration on the submandibular gland in a growing rat model. Methods: Four-week-old rats were used in this study. The experimental group (nine males and eight females) received 12.8 mg/kg of 4HR weekly for 12 weeks. Ten rats (five males and five females) were used as controls. The submandibular glands of rats were collected 12 weeks after the first administration of 4HR. The weight of the glands was measured. Histological analysis, immunoprecipitation-high-performance liquid chromatography (IP-HPLC), and western blotting were performed. Results: The weights of the rat submandibular glands were higher in the experimental groups than in the control group, especially in male rats (P < 0.05). The vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and testosterone in the submandibular glands were more highly expressed in 4HR-treated male rats than in untreated rats, as detected by both western blotting and immunohistochemistry. The IP-HPLC results demonstrated that the expression levels of Ki67, epidermal growth factor, and testosterone in the submandibular glands were higher in 4HR-treated male rats than in untreated rats. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the systemic administration of 4HR increased the weight of submandibular glands in male rats. The purpose of this paper is to study the recognition of ships and their structures to improve the safety of drone operations engaged in shore-to-ship drone delivery service. This study has developed a system that can distinguish between ships and their structures by using a convolutional neural network (CNN). First, the dataset of the Marine Traffic Management Net is described and CNN's object sensing based on the Detectron2 platform is discussed. There will also be a description of the experiment and performance. Electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) are an excellent electrochemical energy storage system (ESS) because of their superior power density, faster charge–discharge ability, and longer cycle life compared to those of other EES systems. Activated carbons (ACs) have been mainly used as the electrode materials for EDLCs because of their high specific surface area, superior chemical stability, and low cost. Petroleum pitch (PP) is a graphitizable carbon that is a promising precursor for ACs because of its high carbon content, which is obtained as an abundant by-product during the distillation of petroleum. However, the processibility of PP is poor because of its stable structure. In this study, pre-oxidized PP-derived AC (OPP-AC) was prepared to investigate the effects of pre-oxidation on the electrochemical behaviors of PP. The specific surface area and pore size distribution of OPP-AC were lower and narrower, respectively, compared to the textural properties of untreated PP-derived AC (PP-AC). On the other hand, the specific capacitance of OPP-AC was 25% higher than that of PP-AC. Neuronal loss (death) occurs selectively in vulnerable brain regions after ischemic insults. Astrogliosis is accompanied by neuronal death. It can change the molecular expression and morphology of astrocytes following ischemic insults. However, little is known about cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury that can variously lead to damage of astrocytes according to the degree of ischemic injury, which is related to neuronal damage/death. Thus, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between damage to cortical neurons and astrocytes using gerbil models of mild and severe transient forebrain ischemia induced by blocking the blood supply to the forebrain for five or 15 min. Significant ischemia tFI-induced neuronal death occurred in the deep layers (layers V and VI) of the motor cortex: neuronal death occurred earlier and more severely in gerbils with severe ischemia than in gerbils with mild ischemia. Distinct astrogliosis was detected in layers V and VI. It gradually increased with time after both ischemiae. The astrogliosis was significantly higher in severe ischemia than in mild ischemia. The ischemia-induced increase of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP; a maker of astrocyte) expression in severe ischemia was significantly higher than that in mild ischemia. However, GFAP-immunoreactive astrocytes were apparently damaged two days after both ischemiae. At five days after ischemiae, astrocyte endfeet around capillary endothelial cells were severely ruptured. They were more severely ruptured by severe ischemia than by mild ischemia. However, the number of astrocytes stained with S100 was significantly higher in severe ischemia than in mild ischemia. These results indicate that the degree of astrogliosis, including the disruption (loss) of astrocyte endfeet following ischemia and reperfusion in the forebrain, might depend on the severity of ischemia and that the degree of ischemia-induced neuronal damage may be associated with the degree of astrogliosis.
