Hexanucleotide repeat expansions (HREs) in the chromosome 9 open reading frame 72 (C9orf72) gene are the most frequent genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Both are debilitating neurodegenerative conditions affecting either motor neurons (ALS) in the brain and spinal cord or neurons in the frontal and/or temporal cortical lobes (FTD). HREs undergo repeat-associated non-ATG (RAN) translation on both sense and anti-sense strands, generating five distinct dipeptide repeat proteins (DPRs), poly-GA, -GR, -GP, -PA and -PR. Perturbed proteostasis is well-recognised in ALS pathogenesis, including processes affecting the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and Golgi compartments. However, these mechanisms have not been well characterised for C9orf72-mediated ALS/FTD. In this study we demonstrate that C9orf72 DPRs polyGA, polyGR and polyGP (× 40 repeats) disrupt secretory protein transport from the ER to the Golgi apparatus in neuronal cells. Consistent with this finding, these DPRs also induce fragmentation of the Golgi apparatus, activate ER stress, and inhibit the formation of the omegasome, the precursor of the autophagosome that originates from ER membranes. We also demonstrate Golgi fragmentation in cells undergoing RAN translation that express polyGP. Furthermore, dysregulated ER-Golgi transport was confirmed in C9orf72 patient dermal fibroblasts. Evidence of aberrant ER-derived vesicles in spinal cord motor neurons from C9orf72 ALS patients compared to controls was also obtained. These data thus confirm that ER proteostasis and ER-Golgi transport is perturbed in C9orf72-ALS in the absence of protein over-expression. This study explored the development history and future trends of academic research on electric vehicles (EVs) in a circular economy. We collected 4127 articles on circular economy and EVs from the Web of Science database, and main path analysis indicated that academic research in the field of EVs in a circular economy has covered the following topics in chronological order: EVs as a power resource; vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology; renewable energy and energy storage grids; smart grid and charging station optimization; and sustainable development of energy, water, and environmental systems. Through cluster analysis and data mining, we identified the following main research topics in the aforementioned field: recycling and reuse of EV batteries, charging stations and energy management, V2G systems and renewable energy, power frequency control systems, dynamic economic emissions, and energy management. Finally, data mining and statistical analysis revealed the following emerging research topics in this field from 2020 to 2023: microgrids, deep learning, loop supply chain, blockchain, and automatic generation control. Various achievements have been attained in research on EVs in a circular economy; however, challenges related to aspects such as sustainable battery recycling charging infrastructure and renewable energy integration remain. Background: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) for HIV-1 treatment has improved lifespan but requires lifelong adherence for people living with HIV (PLWH), highlighting the need for a cure. Evaluation of potential cure strategies requires analytic treatment interruption (ATI) with close monitoring of viral rebound. Predictive biomarkers for HIV-1 rebound and/or duration of control during ATI will facilitate these HIV cure trials while minimizing risks. Available evidence suggests that host immune, glycomic, lipid, and metabolic markers of inflammation may be associated with HIV-1 persistence in PLWH who are treated during chronic HIV-1 infection. Methods: We conducted post-hoc analysis of HIV controllers who could maintain low levels of plasma HIV-1 without ART in a phase 1b vesatolimod trial. Baseline and pre-ATI levels of immune, glycomic, lipidomic, and metabolomic markers were tested for association with ATI outcomes (time of HIV-1 rebound to 200 copies/mL and 1,000 copies/mL, duration of HIV-1 RNA ≤400 copies/mL and change in intact proviral HIV-1 DNA during ATI) using Spearman’s correlation and Cox proportional hazards model. Results: Higher levels of CD69+CD8+ T-cells were consistently associated with shorter time to HIV-1 rebound at baseline and pre-ATI. With few exceptions, baseline fucosylated, non-galactosylated, non-sialylated, bisecting IgG Nglycans were associated with shorter time to HIV rebound and duration of control as with previous studies. Baseline plasma MPA and HPA binding glycans and non-galactosylated/non-sialylated glycans were associated with longer time to HIV rebound, while baseline multiply-galactosylated glycans and sialylated glycans, GNA-binding glycans, NPA-binding glycans, WGAbinding glycans, and bisecting GlcNAc glycans were associated with shorter time to HIV rebound and duration of control. Fourteen bioactive lipids had significant baseline associations with longer time to rebound and duration of control, and larger intact proviral HIV-1 DNA changes; additionally, three baseline bioactive lipids were associated with shorter time to first rebound and duration of control. Conclusion: Consistent with studies in HIV non-controllers, proinflammatory glycans, lipids, and metabolites were generally associated with shorter duration of HIV-1 control. Notable differences were observed between HIV controllers vs. non-controllers in some specific markers. This article, published in the journal Cell Discovery, explores the role of leptin receptor neurons in the ventral premammillary nucleus (PMv) in modulating emotion-induced insomnia. The study found that exposure to emotional stimuli, such as urine or TMT (a component of fox odor), significantly delayed non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep onset and increased wakefulness in mice. The researchers also discovered that PMvLepR neurons were activated by emotional stimuli and that their activation led to prolonged wakefulness, mimicking insomnia-like behavior. Inhibition of PMvLepR neurons abolished the increase in sleep latency and wakefulness following emotional stimuli. Smart city is an area where the Internet of things is used effectively with sensors. The data used by smart city can be collected through the cameras, sensors etc. Intelligent video surveillance (IVS) systems integrate multiple networked cameras for automatic surveillance purposes. Such systems can analyze and monitor video data and perform automatic functions required by users. This study performed main path analysis (MPA) to explore the development trends of IVS research. First, relevant articles were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Next, MPA was performed to analyze development trends in relevant research, and g-index and h-index values were analyzed to identify influential journals. Cluster analysis was then performed to group similar articles, and Wordle was used to display the key words of each group in word clouds. These key words served as the basis for naming their corresponding groups. Data mining and statistical analysis yielded six major IVS research topics, namely video cameras, background modeling, closed-circuit television, multiple cameras, person reidentification, and privacy, security, and protection. These topics can boost the future innovation and development of IVS technology and contribute to smart transportation, smart city, and other applications. The experiment aimed to assess the effects of sucrose-chelated trace elements as substitutes for inorganic trace elements on the growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and muscle trace element deposition in growingfinishing pigs. Eighty-four castrated boars (70±3) kg were randomly divided into two treatment groups, each treatment with six replicates, and each replicate consisting of seven pigs. The control group (IE group) was fed a diet supplemented with 1% inorganic trace elements, and the experimental group (SE group) was fed a diet supplemented with 1% sucrosechelated trace elements. The experiment lasted for 56 days. The results showed that compared to IE group, the average daily gain, final weight, carcass weight, and backfat thickness of growing-finishing pigs in SE group increased ( P<0.05), the drip loss and refrigeration loss of the longissimus dorsi muscle decreased ( P<0.05), and the thawing loss showed a trend of reduction ( P>0.05). The redness (a*) value of the longissimus dorsi muscle of SE group increased after 45 minutes and one day of storage ( P<0.05). The T-AOC, T-SOD, and GSH-Px activities of the longissimus dorsi muscle of SE group were enhanced ( P<0.05), and the MDA content decreased ( P<0.05). Compared to IE group, the Cu and Se content in the longissimus dorsi muscle in SE group increased ( P<0.05), and the Fe and Mn content in the hind leg muscle increased ( P<0.05).The study indicates that using sucrose-chelated trace elements in the diet as substitutes for inorganic trace elements can improve the growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and muscle antioxidant status of growing-finishing pigs, and promote the deposition of trace elements in muscles. Reported low levels of life satisfaction are concurrent with the rising level of environmental and social pressures in many metropolitan regions. This study considers financial literacy, health status, financial situation, public policy, and educational attainment to explore the mediating effect of resilience on life satisfaction among working adults in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A self-administered questionnaire was designed and distributed to working adults aged between 20 and 39 years. A total of 384 usable questionnaires were obtained with an 85.33% response rate. Using partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), our results provide two notable findings. First, individuals who have better financial literacy tend to make decisions by adopting a variety of financial strategies. In turn, their financial stability can lead to better life satisfaction. Second, resilience appears to partially mediate the effects of financial literacy, financial situation, health status and educational attainment on individuals' life satisfaction. Practically, this study will help the government better equip communities for adults in the places in which they live. In recent years, with the rise of the automation wave, reducing manual judgment, especially in defect detection in factories, has become crucial. The automation of image recognition has emerged as a significant challenge. However, the problem of how to effectively improve the classification of defect detection and the accuracy of the mean average precision (mAP) is a continuous process of improvement and has evolved from the original visual inspection of defects to the present deep learning detection system. This paper presents an application of deep learning, and the task-aligned approach is firstly used on metal defects, and the anchor and bounding box of objects and categories are continuously optimized by mutual correction. We used the task-aligned one-stage object detection (TOOD) model, then improved and optimized it, followed by deformable ConvNets v2 (DCNv2) to adjust the deformable convolution, and finally used soft efficient non-maximum suppression (Soft-NMS) to optimize intersection over union (IoU) and adjust the IoU threshold and many other experiments. In the Northeastern University surface defect detection dataset (NEU-DET) for surface defect detection, mAP increased from 75.4% to 77.9%, a 2.5% increase in mAP, and mAP was also improved compared to existing advanced models, which has potential for future use. Background: From 2008 to 2020, colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence and mortality increased by approximately 50% and 47%, respectively, in South-East Asia (SEA). The human development index (HDI) influences various lifestyle choices (including physical activity), which may contribute to the prevalence of CRC in this region, distinct from factors related to medical or hereditary history. This review aims to evaluate and demonstrate the impacts and association of HDI with age-standardized rates (ASR) of CRC incidence and mortality in SEA. Methods: Utilizing data from the GLOBOCAN 2020, this study analyzed ASR for CRC incidence and mortality in each SEA country. Concurrently, the HDI for 2021 in these nations was gathered from the Human Development Reports. Using Spearman correlation analysis, we investigated the link between CRC ASR (incidence and mortality) and HDI indicators, including life expectancy at birth, mean years of schooling, and Gross National Income per Capita (2017 PPP$). The statistical significance threshold was set at P<0.05. Results: The statistical analysis revealed noteworthy positive correlations between HDI and its components (life expectancy at birth, mean years of schooling, and Gross National Income per Capita) with the ASR for incidence. Specifically, Spearman's rho values were 0.834, 0.755, 0.827, and 0.882, respectively. Similarly, significant correlations were observed between HDI and its constituents with ASR for mortality, with corresponding values of 0.720, 0.755, 0.718, and 0.782 at a 5% significance level. Conclusion: Countries with a high HDI exhibit a dual impact influence by fostering economic growth while potentially posing challenges to public health. Despite very high HDI nations demonstrating successful CRC screening programs that lower both incidence and mortality rates, various SEA countries face impediments in implementing such screenings. The impact of diet and lifestyle on CRC burdens is particularly pronounced in medium HDI countries, underscoring the significance of unprocessed diets and an active lifestyle in mitigating the prevalence of CRC. In today's digital age, the financial industry, a cornerstone of the global economy, is undergoing monumental shifts. While business performance hinges on proficient leadership, the seismic wave of digital transformation poses new challenges and magnifies the need for specific leadership competencies. The urgency is clear: adapt or become obsolete. However, there is a lack of clarity regarding which competencies are essential during such transformations. To address this gap, the purpose of this study is to identify the leadership competencies that leaders in the financial industry should possess during the digital transformation process and to determine the influential relationships among these competencies and which ones are highly influential. This paper extensively investigates the criteria for evaluating leadership competencies and integrates expert judgments to construct an evaluation framework for leadership competencies during digital transformation. The Z-based decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (Z-DEMATEL) technique was applied to identify the influential relationships among the criteria and generate influence weights for each criterion. In addition, based on the results of Z-DEMATEL, an Influence Classification Map (ICM) was plotted that categorized the criteria into four groups: core, driving, independent, and impact. Management implications and improvement suggestions are provided accordingly. Z-DEMATEL enhances the general form of fuzzy DEMATEL. By integrating the Z-fuzzy theory, Z-DEMATEL not only accounts for the uncertainty of the evaluation environment but also measures the confidence level of experts. Taking Taiwan's financial industry as a case study, this study revealed that "vision and imagination," "critical analysis," and "strategic perspective" were the top three criteria with higher weights, while "critical analysis" and "interpersonal sensitivity" were the core criteria. Business managers can use the results to design leadership training programs that meet the requirements of digital transformation and ultimately improve the performance of organizations during the transformation. The Internet of vehicles (IoV) is an Internet-of-things-based network in the area of transportation. It comprises sensors, network communication, automation control, and data processing and enables connectivity between vehicles and other objects. This study performed main path analysis (MPA) to investigate the trajectory of research regarding the IoV. Studies were extracted from the Web of Science database, and citation networks among these studies were generated. MPA revealed that research in this field has mainly covered media access control, vehicle-to-vehicle channels, device-to-device communications, layers, non-orthogonal multiple access, and sixth-generation communications. Cluster analysis and data mining revealed that the main research topics related to the IoV included wireless channels, communication protocols, vehicular ad hoc networks, security and privacy, resource allocation and optimization, autonomous cruise control, deep learning, and edge computing. By using data mining and statistical analysis, we identified emerging research topics related to the IoV, namely blockchains, deep learning, edge computing, cloud computing, vehicular dynamics, and fifth- and sixth-generation mobile communications. These topics are likely to help drive innovation and the further development of IoV technologies and contribute to smart transportation, smart cities, and other applications. High blood glucose is one of the risk factors for metabolic disease and INS (insulin) is the key regulatory hormone for glucose homeostasis. Hypoinsulinemia accompanied with hyperglycemia was diagnosed in mice with pancreatic β-cells exhibiting autophagy deficiency; however, the underlying mechanism remains elusive. The role of secretory autophagy in the regulation of metabolic syndrome is gaining more attention. Our data demonstrated that increased macroautophagic/autophagic activity leads to induction of insulin secretion in β-cells both in vivo and in vitro under high-glucose conditions. Moreover, proteomic analysis of purified autophagosomes from β-cells identified a group of vesicular transport proteins participating in insulin secretion, implying that secretory autophagy regulates insulin exocytosis. RAB37, a small GTPase, regulates vesicle biogenesis, trafficking, and cargo release. We demonstrated that the active form of RAB37 increased MAP1LC3/LC3 lipidation (LC3-II) and is essential for the promotion of insulin secretion by autophagy, but these phenomena were not observed in rab37 knockout (rab37-/-) cells and mice. Unbalanced insulin and glucose concentration in the blood was improved by manipulating autophagic activity using a novel autophagy inducer niclosamide (an antihelminthic drug) in a high-fat diet (HFD)-obesity mouse model. To investigate the prognostic value of systemic inflammation and insulin resistance in women with breast cancer with different body mass index (BMI). This multicenter, prospective study included 514 women with breast cancer. Multivariate survival analysis showed that patients with high C-reactive protein (CRP), high CRP to albumin ratio (CAR), high lymphocyte to CRP ratio (LCR), high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (LHR), and high triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-c) were significantly associated with worse prognosis. The mortality rate of patients with both high CAR and high LHR or both low LCR and high LHR were 3.91-fold or 3.89-fold higher than patients with both low CAR and low LHR or both high LCR and low LHR, respectively. Furthermore, the combination of LCR and LHR significantly predicted survival in patients within the high BMI group. The CRP, CAR, LCR, LHR, and TG/HDL-c were associated with poor survival in women with breast cancer. The combination of CAR and LHR or LCR and LHR could better predict the prognostic outcomes of women with breast cancer, while the combination of LCR and LHR could better predict the prognosis of those patients with overweight or obese patients. Background: Aging is accompanied by muscle loss. In older adults with cancer sarcopenia (OACS), systemic inflammation, reduced food intake, and reduced physical activity led to a poor prognosis. This study was to investigate the prognostic ability of the inflammatory Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), which combines patient's inflammation, diet status, and physical activity status to predict overall survival of OACS. Methods: This prospective multi‐center study enrolled 637 OACS, with an average age of 72.78 ± 5.98 years, of which 408 (64.1%) were males. We constructed the Inflammatory Functional Prognostic Index (IFPI) of OACS based on inflammatory GNRI scores, reduced food intake, and reduced physical activity. According to the IFPI, OACS was divided into high‐, moderate‐, and low‐risk groups. Univariate and multivariate survival analyses analyzed the prognostic ability of the clinical parameters. Results: Compared with OACS with a high GNRI score, the 1‐, 3‐, and 5‐year hazard ratios (95% confidence interval) of OACS with a low GNRI score was 1.816 (1.076–3.063), 1.678 (1.118–2.518), and 1.627 (1.101–2.407), respectively. This result was consistent with that of the calibration curve. The subgroup analysis showed that the low GNRI score had a significant positive relation with patients with gastrointestinal cancer (Pinteraction < 0.001). Notably, the survival analysis of IFPI showed that the mortality risk of moderate‐ and high‐risk patients was 1.722‐and 2.509‐fold higher, respectively, than that of low‐risk patients. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has exerted a wide range of effects on electronic (e)-commerce and technology and even forced some retail stores to cease operations. The e-commerce and online retail application use increased significantly during the pandemic. This trend prompted social media, which is an effective marketing channel, to communicate brand-related information by stimulating brand engagement and brand knowledge among consumers. In this case study, a traditional Chinese pastry shop faced the issues of low brand awareness and brand image due to limited social media interaction. Before a comprehensive social marketing plan was designed for the shop, the general factors that influenced the brand awareness and brand image of pastry shops were examined. A quantitative method was used where surveys were distributed via Google Forms. Purposive sampling was performed, and data were collected from respondents who used social media platforms to interact with others in Malaysia to buy pastry products. The total usable data for the study was 169. The findings demonstrated that there were positive significant relationships between social media interaction, customer brand engagement, brand awareness, and brand image. The marketing strategies implemented on the Facebook page of the traditional Chinese pastry shop for two months successfully and effectively increased its brand awareness and brand image, which indicated that social media interaction was the best strategy to develop brand awareness and brand image for the pastry shop. Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the four scoring tools in predicting mortality in pediatric intensive care units (PICUs) in western China. Methods: This was a multicenter, prospective, cohort study conducted in six PICUs in western China. The performances of the scoring systems were evaluated based on both discrimination and calibration. Discrimination was assessed by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) for each model. Calibration was measured across defined groups based on mortality risk using the Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit test. Results: A total of 2034 patients were included in this study, of whom 127 (6.2%) died. For the entire cohort, AUCs for Pediatric Risk of Mortality Score (PRISM) I, Pediatric Index of Mortality 2 (PIM2), Pediatric Logistic Organ Dysfunction Score-2 (PELOD-2) and PRISM IV were 0.88 [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.85–0.92], 0.84 (95% CI 0.80–0.88), 0.80 (95% CI 0.75–0.85), and 0.91 (95% CI 0.88–0.94), respectively. The Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit Chi-square value was 12.71 (P = 0.12) for PRISM I, 4.70 (P = 0.79) for PIM2, 205.98 (P < 0.001) for PELOD-2, and 7.50 (P = 0.48) for PRISM IV [degree of freedom (df) = 8]. The standardized mortality ratios obtained with the PRISM I, PIM2, PELOD-2, and PRISM IV models were 0.87 (95% CI, 0.75–1.01), 0.97 (95% CI, 0.85–1.12), 1.74 (95% CI, 1.58–1.92), and 1.05 (95% CI, 0.92–1.21), respectively. Conclusions: PRISM IV performed best and can be used as a prediction tool in PICUs in Western China. However, PRISM IV needs to be further validated in NICUs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Rab37-mediated exocytosis of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP1), an inflammatory cytokine, under serum-depleted conditions which leads to suppression of lung cancer cell metastasis has been reported. Starvation is also a stimulus of autophagic activity. Herein, we reveal that starvation activates Rab37 and induces autophagy. Methods: We used an overexpression/knockdown system to determine the relationship between autophagy and Rab37 in vitro and in vivo. The autophagy activity was detected by immunoblotting, transmission electron microscope, autophagosome purification, and immunofluorescence under the confocal microscope. Lung-to-lung metastasis mouse model was used to clarify the role of autophagy and Rab37 in lung cancer. Clinical lung cancer patient specimens and an online big database were analyzed. Results: Initially, we demonstrated that active-form Rab37 increased LC3-II protein level (the marker of autophagosome) and TIMP1 secretion. Accordingly, silencing of Rab37 gene expression alleviated Rab37 and LC3-II levels as well as TIMP1 secretion, and induction of autophagy could not increase TIMP1 exocytosis under such conditions. Moreover, silencing the Atg5 or Atg7 gene of lung cancer cells harboring active-mutant Rab37 (Q89L) led to decreased autophagy activity and TIMP1 secretion. In the lung-to-lung metastasis mouse model, increased TIMP1 expression accompanied by amiodarone-induced autophagy led to decreased tumor nodules and cancer cell metastasis. These phenomena were reversed by silencing the Atg5 or Atg7 gene. Notably, increasing autophagy activity alone showed no effect on TIMP1 secretion under either Rab37 or Sec22b silencing conditions. We further detected colocalization of LC3 with either Rab37 or TIMP1, identified Rab37 and Sec22b proteins in the purified autophagosomes of the lung cancer cells harboring the active-form Rab37 gene, and confirmed that these proteins are involved in the secretion of TIMP1. We reveal that autophagic activity was significantly lower in the tumors compared to the non-tumor parts and was associated with the overall lung cancer patient survival rate. Conclusions: We are the first to report that autophagy plays a promoting role in TIMP1 secretion and metastasis in a Rab37-dependent manner in lung cancer cells and the lung-to-lung mouse model. Dielectrically graded insulation (DGI) serving as an embodiment of functionally graded materials in electrical insulation field displays extraordinary insulation strength compared with conventional uniform composite materials. In recent years, the design and fabrication of DGI toward industrial applications have become urgent issues. Here, we reported a construction strategy of DGI for gas-insulated equipment. A topology optimization method was applied to optimize the electric ($E$) field distribution of a 126-kV disk-type spacer with actual size. The spatial distribution of relative permittivity ($\varepsilon _{r}$) inside spacer was designed to improve the $E$ -field distributions along the spacer surface and near the triple junction region. Influences of design parameters on $\varepsilon _{r}$ distributions and the resultant $E$ -field mitigation degree were analyzed. Appropriate values of design parameters that balance the structure processability and $E$ -field mitigation results were selected. A three-layer dielectrically graded spacer, including high, medium, and low $\varepsilon _{r}$ regions, was constructed based on the topology optimization results. In addition, the influence of the area of design domain on the optimization results was analyzed. Numerical results indicate that the $E$ -field distribution of designed dielectrically graded spacers is significantly improved compared with that of a homogeneous spacer. In the situation with simplified electrode configuration, the maximum $E$ -field strength along the spacer and at triple junction area could be decreased by 10.5% and 43.4%, respectively. Enterprises looking to be competitive are constantly looking for a continuous increase in productivity, quality, and level of services. With the development of the industry 4.0 concept, manufacturers are more confident about the new advantages of automation and systems integration. Lean management is a well-developed and empirically proven managerial strategy. Combining lean and industry 4.0 practices seems to be a necessary evolutionary step to further raise the level of operational excellence. This study applied the main path analysis method to explore the development trend of lean management in the academic field. First, this study adopted the Scopus database to collect relevant papers, then analyzed their overall development trajectory by using Main Path 437 software, and used the g-index and h-index to identify more influential journals. Next, this study clustered the papers with similar topics into several groups, and then used Wordle software to present the keywords of each group in a word cloud that serves as a reference for naming. Thus, the top five groups obtained are as follows: "Lean production concept and application", "Lean Six Sigma concept and application", "Lean system integration and application", "Lean construction concept and application", and "Lean healthcare concept and application". Finally, this study provides explanations and conclusions on each group's development trajectory, as well as research recommendations in the field of lean production. The findings can serve as guides for industry, government, and academia as they develop future lean production development strategies. Background: Systemic inflammation and insulin resistance (IR) are often associated with poor prognosis in cancer. This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of surrogate systemic inflammation and IR indices in patients with cancer.Methods: This multicenter prospective study included 5,221 patients with cancer, with a mean age of 59.41±11.15 years, of whom 3,061 (58.6%) were male. The surrogate IR indices included low-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LHR) ratio, total cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TC/ HDL-c) ratio, triglyceride to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (TG/HDL-c) ratio, and fasting triglyceride glucose (TyG). Prognostic receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves and C-indices were used to select a better surrogate IR index in patients with cancer. The prognostic value of the indicators was evaluated using univariate and multivariate survival analyses.Results: In this study, the median survival time of patients was 44.5 (40.5-51.4) months, and the overall mortality in the 12-month period was 1,115 (53.7%), with 196 mortality events per 1,000 patient-years of patients' follow-up. The prognostic ROC curve and C-index suggested that the prognostic value of LHR was better than that of the other IR indices. The multivariate-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for overall survival (OS) were higher in patients with high C-reactive protein (CRP) (HR, 1.51; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.38-1.65) and high LHR (HR, 1.20; 95% CI: 1.06-1.37), respectively. The mortality rate of patients with both high CRP and LHR was 1.75-fold higher than that of patients with both low CRP and LHR.Conclusion: Both CRP and LHR showed good survival predictions in patients with cancer. Background: Systemic inflammation and insulin resistance (IR) are closely related in patients with cancer. However, there is no relevant indicator that combines inflammation and IR to predict patient prognosis. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and validate a novel inflammation- and IR-related marker in patients with cancer. Methods: The total cohort of this study included 5221 patients with cancer, and the training and validation cohorts were randomized in a 7:3 ratio. C-reactive protein (CRP) and fasting triglyceride glucose (TyG) were used to reflect patients' inflammation and IR status, respectively. The CRP-TyG index (CTI) was composed of CRP and TyG. The concordance (C)-index, receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve, and calibration curve reflected the prognostic predictive power of CTI. Univariate and multivariate survival analyses predicted the prognostic value of CTI in patients with cancer. Results: The C-indices of CTI in patients with cancer were 0.636, 0.617, and 0.631 in the total, training, and validation cohorts, respectively. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year ROC and calibration curves showed that CTI had a good predictive ability of survival in patients with cancer. Meanwhile, patients with high CTI had a worse prognosis compared to patients with low CTI (total cohort: hazard ratio [HR] = 1.46, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 1.33–1.59; training cohort: HR = 1.36, 95% CI = 1.22–1.52; validation cohort: HR = 1.73, 95% CI = 1.47–2.04]. The level of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in nongerminated adzuki bean seeds is low, but it increases substantially during germination and sprouting. In this study, three seed treatments, including soaking (S), high voltage electric field (HVEF), and soaking plus HVEF (SHVEF), were used to examine their effects on sprout growth, sprout GABA content, sprout glutamate decarboxylase (GAD), and diamine oxidase (DAO) activities and microbial loads on 6-day-old adzuki bean sprouts. All the treatments enhanced sprout growth, increased sprout's GABA, and increased sprouts' GAD and DAO activities. The examined seed treatments also significantly reduced the microbial loads of the produced 6-day-old adzuki bean sprouts. The most effective treatment that improved the morphological and biochemical traits and reduced microbial loads on produced sprouts was the SHVEF treatment. SHVEF treatment also achieved a 5-log reduction in the microbial loads of total aerobic bacterial counts, total coliform counts, and total mold counts on the produced adzuki bean sprouts. Therefore, SHVEF is effective for increasing adzuki bean sprout production. In this paper, optical components are fabricated using a 3D printing method. The two following strategies are adopted: 1. combining 3D printing, "origami", and metal coating/attaching to directly manufacture parabolic reflectors; 2. inserting mirrors into 3D-printed frames and assembling the mirrors to form a corner cube retroreflector (CCR). PDLC (polymer dispersed liquid crystal) films are integrated with these optical components to achieve voltage-controlled optical power modulation. The tunable CCR is used to construct a solar light communication system. Using sunlight directly as the light source for communication is rarely seen. In this paper, we demonstrate a proof of concept of sunlight communication, exploring a new route of solar energy utilization, in addition to electricity generation and heating. RAB37 GTPase regulates cargo exocytosis by cycling between an inactive GDP-bound form and an active GTP-bound form. We reveal that RAB37 simultaneously regulates autophagy activation and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP1) secretion in lung cancer cells under starvation conditions. TIMP1, an inflammatory cytokine, is a known inhibitory molecule of matrix metalloproteinases matrix metalloproteinase 9 and suppresses the mobility of lung cancer cells both in vitro and in vivo through conventional exocytosis under serum-free conditions. Notably, we disclosed that secretory autophagy participates in TIMP1 secretion in a RAB37- and Sec22b-dependent manner. Sec22b, a SNARE family protein, participates in vesicle and membrane fusion of secretory autophagy. Knockdown of Sec22b decreased TIMP1 secretion and cell motility but did not affect cell proliferation under starvation conditions. We confirmed that starvation-activated RAB37 accompanied by Sec22b is essential for secretory autophagy to further enhance TIMP1 exocytosis. We further use an off-label drug amiodarone to demonstrate that autophagy induction facilitates TIMP1 secretion and suppresses the motility and metastasis of lung cancer cells in a RAB37-dependent manner in the lung-to-lung mouse model. In conclusion, we demonstrated that the RAB37 activation plays a pivotal regulatory role in secretory autophagy for TIMP1 secretion in lung cancer. In order to advance Chinese culturally-appropriate art therapy practice, a qualitative study identified key indigenous factors. The investigation documented contextual adaptations made by 7 Taiwanese "sojourner" art therapists. Inductive thematic analysis yielded six themes, which identified from the participants' descriptions of art therapy practice with native Taiwanese/Chinese clients relate to the key processes of (a) responding to clients' initial art therapy expectations, (b) orienting client to purposes of art making, (c) addressing client–art therapist roles, (d) understanding how cultural conceptions of art influences art therapy, (e) uncovering the client's culture as a strength, and (f) reducing personal and relational tension. This paper examines how firms in an emerging economy cope with resource challenges by implementing compensation strategies for incremental product innovations. The model is empirically tested using firm-level survey data from 497 South African manufacturing firms. Results show that higher diversity among a specific set of external knowledge sources is associated with a higher likelihood of incremental product innovation. Stronger embeddedness in non-domestic inter-organisational networks increases this likelihood as well. The positive effect of external knowledge diversity is more positive for higher levels of localised ties. Recommendations to enhance incremental product innovation concern the development of external relationships with domestic and international partners while limiting knowledge source diversity to a specific actor set. Background: Systemic inflammation and cachexia are associated with adverse clinical outcomes in elderly patients with cancer. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) is a simple and useful tool to assess these conditions, but its predictive ability for elderly patients with cancer cachexia (EPCC) is unknown. Methods: This multicentre cohort study included 746 EPCC with an average age of 72.00 ± 5.24 years, of whom 489 (65.5%) were male. The patients were divided into two groups (high GNRI group ≥91.959 vs. low GNRI group <91.959) according to the optimal cut‐off value of the ROC curve. The calibration curves were performed to analyse the prognostic, predictive ability of GNRI. Comprehensive survival analyses were utilized to explore the relationship between GNRI and the overall survival (OS) of EPCC. Interaction analysis was used to investigate the comprehensive effects of low GNRI and subgroup parameters on the OS of EPCC. Results: In this study, a total of 2560 patients were diagnosed with cancer cachexia, including 746 cases of EPCC. During the 3.6 year median follow‐up, we observed 403 deaths. The overall mortality rate for EPCC at 12 months was 34.3% (95% CI: 62.3% to 69.2%), and resulting in rate of 278 events per 1000 patient‐years. The GNRI score of EPCC was significantly lower than those of young patients with cancer cachexia (P < 0.001). The 1, 3, and 5 year calibration curves showed that the GNRI score had good survival prediction in the OS of EPCC. The GNRI could predict the OS of EPCC, whether as a continuous variable or a categorical variable. Particularly, we also found that low GNRI score (<91.959) of EPCC had a worse prognosis than those with a high GNRI score (≥91.959, P = 0.001, HR = 1.728, 95% CI: 1.244–2.401). Consistent results were observed in the tumour subgroups of gastric cancer and colorectal cancer. Notably, similar results were observed in the sensitivity analysis. In the subgroup analysis, the low GNRI has a combined effect with age (<70 years) on poor OS of EPCC. The results of the prognostic risk model found that the lower the GNRI score, the greater the prognostic risk score, and the greater the risk of death in EPCC. Many studies reported that microRNAs (miRNAs) target autophagy-related genes to affect carcinogenesis, however, autophagy-deficiency-related miRNA dysfunction in cancer development remains poorly explored. During autophagic progression, we identified miR-449a as the most up-regulated miRNA. MiR-449a expression was low in the tumor parts of CRC patient specimens and inversely correlated with tumor stage and metastasis with the AUC (area under the curve) of 0.899 and 0.736 as well as poor overall survival rate, indicating that miR-449a has the potential to be a prognostic biomarker. In the same group of CRC specimens, low autophagic activity (low Beclin 1 expression and high p62 accumulation) was detected, which was significantly associated with miR-449a expression. Mechanistic studies disclosed that autophagy upregulates miR-449a expression through degradation of the coactivator p300 protein which acetylates the transcription factor Forkhead Box O1 (FoxO1). Unacetylated FoxO1 translocated to the nucleus and bound to the miR-449a promoter to drive gene expression. Either activation of autophagy by the inducer or overexpression of exogenous miR-449a decreases the expression of target gene LEF-1 and cyclin D1, which lead to decreased proliferation, colony formation, migration, and invasion of CRC cells. Autophagy-miR-449a-tartet genes mediated suppression of tumor formation was further confirmed in the xenograft mouse model. In conclusion, this study reveals a novel mechanism wherein autophagy utilizes miR-449a-LEF1-cyclin D1 axis to suppress CRC tumorigenesis. This study aimed to investigate the impact of high inflammation on the prognosis of EPCC patients with high mortality. Patients and Methods: This multicenter cohort study included 746 EPCC (age > 65 years) with a mean age of 72.00 ± 5.24 years, of whom 489 (65.5%) were male. The cut-off value for the inflammation index was obtained using the optimal survival curve. The different inflammatory indicators were assessed using the concordance index (C-index), decision curve analysis (DCA), and prognostic receiver operating characteristic (ROC). The high mortality risk group of EPCC was defined by the 2011 Fearon Cancer Diagnostic Consensus. EPCC were divided into the high-risk group, which satisfies three diagnostic criteria, and a low-risk group, which satisfies only one or two diagnostic criteria. Results: The C-index, DCA, and prognostic ROC indicated the superiority of advanced lung cancer inflammation index (ALI) compared with other indicators, including neutrophil–lymphocyte ratio (NLR), prognostic nutritional index (PNI), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), and platelet–lymphocyte ratio (PLR). Whether ALI was used as a continuous or a categorical variable, ALI had a better prognostic value in EPCC compared with other inflammatory indicators. In particular, patients with low ALI (< 25.03) had a worse overall survival (OS) than patients with high ALI (≥ 25.03) (P < 0.001, HR [95% CI] = 2.092 [1.590– 2.751]). The combination effect analysis showed that the risk of mortality of the patients in the low-ALI and high-risk groups was 3.095-fold higher than that of patients in the high-ALI and low-risk groups. Conclusion: The prognostic and discriminative value of the inflammatory indicator ALI was better than that of NLR, PNI, SII, and PLR in EPCC. Featured Application: This study provides planning directions for industry, and the findings serve as a reference for business domain. The study collected papers on radio frequency identification (RFID) applications from an academic database to explore the topic's development trajectory and predict future development trends. Overall, 3820 papers were collected, and citation networks were established on the basis of the literature references. Main path analysis was performed on the networks to determine the development trajectory of RFID applications. After clustering into groups, the results are twenty clusters, and six clusters with citation counts of more than 200 were obtained. Cluster and word cloud analyses were conducted, and the main research themes were identified: RFID applications in supply chain management, antenna design, collision prevention protocols, privacy and safety, tag sensors, and localization systems. Text mining was performed on the titles and abstracts of the papers to identify frequent keywords and topics of interest to researchers. Finally, statistical analysis of papers published in the previous 4 years revealed RFID applications in construction, aquaculture, and experimentation are less frequently discussed themes. This study provides planning directions for industry, and the findings serve as a reference for business domain. This study collected literature on augmented reality (AR) from academic and patent databases to plot the historic development trajectory of AR and forecast its future research and development trends. A total of 3193 and 13,629 papers were collected from academic and patent databases, respectively. First, a network was established using references from the academic literature; main path analysis was conducted on this reference network to plot the overall development trajectory. Subsequent cluster and word cloud analyses revealed the following five major groups of AR research topics: AR surgical navigation applications, AR education applications, AR applications in manufacturing, AR applications in architecture, and AR applications in visual tracking. Subsequently, the relationships between the overall development trajectory and the five AR research topics were compared. Next, the title and abstract of AR-related academic and patent papers were subjected to text mining to identify keywords with a high frequency of occurrence. The results can provide a reference for industry, government, and academia when planning future development strategies for the AR field. This research adopted an integrated analysis procedure to plot the trajectory of AR technology development and applications successfully and effectively, predict future patent research and development directions and produce technological forecasts. Context: Pituitary corticotroph adenomas are rare tumors that can be associated with excess adrenocorticotropin (ACTH) and adrenal cortisol production, resulting in the clinically debilitating endocrine condition Cushing disease. A subset of corticotroph tumors behave aggressively, and genomic drivers behind the development of these tumors are largely unknown.Objective: To investigate genomic drivers of corticotroph tumors at risk for aggressive behavior.Design: Whole-exome sequencing of patient-matched corticotroph tumor and normal deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) from a patient cohort enriched for tumors at risk for aggressive behavior.Setting: Tertiary care center.Patients: Twenty-seven corticotroph tumors from 22 patients were analyzed. Twelve tumors were macroadenomas, of which 6 were silent ACTH tumors, 2 were Crooke's cell tumors, and 1 was a corticotroph carcinoma.Intervention: Whole-exome sequencing.Main Outcome Measure: Somatic mutation genomic biomarkers.Results: We found recurrent somatic mutations in USP8 and TP53 genes, both with higher allelic fractions than other somatic mutations. These mutations were mutually exclusive, with TP53 mutations occurring only in USP8 wildtype (WT) tumors, indicating they may be independent driver genes. USP8-WT tumors were characterized by extensive somatic copy number variation compared with USP8-mutated tumors. Independent of molecular driver status, we found an association between invasiveness, macroadenomas, and aneuploidy.Conclusions: Our data suggest that corticotroph tumors may be categorized into a USP8-mutated, genome-stable subtype versus a USP8-WT, genome-disrupted subtype, the latter of which has a TP53-mutated subtype with high level of chromosome instability. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are fatal neurodegenerative diseases that are related genetically and pathologically. Mutations in the UBQLN2 gene, encoding the ubiquitin-like protein ubiquilin2, are associated with familial ALS/FTD, but the pathophysiological mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we demonstrate that ALS/FTD UBQLN2 mutants P497H and P506T inhibit protein transport from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi apparatus in neuronal cells. In addition, we observed that Sec31-positive ER exit sites are clustered in UBQLN2T487I patient spinal cord tissues. Both the ER–Golgi intermediate (ERGIC) compartment and the Golgi become disorganised and fragmented. This activates ER stress and inhibits ER-associated degradation. Hence, this study highlights perturbations in secretory protein trafficking and ER homeostasis as pathogenic mechanisms associated with ALS/FTD-associated forms of UBQLN2. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The toxicity of aluminum (Al) to plants in acidic soils depends on the Al species in soil solution. The effects of crop straw biochars on Al species in the soil solution, and canola growth and yield were investigated in this study. In a long-term field experiment, there were four treatments, which were a control, rice straw biochar (RSB), canola straw biochar (CSB), and peanut straw biochar (PSB). The soil solution was collected in situ, the Al species were identified, and the relationships between the concentration of phytotoxic Al and canola growth and yield were evaluated. The results showed that applying the three biochars resulted in significant decreases in the concentrations of total Al, monomeric Al, and monomeric inorganic Al (P < 0.05). The Al3+, Al-OH, and Al-SO4 proportions of the total Al also decreased. The abilities of the different biochars to reduce dissolved Al followed the order PSB > CSB > RSB, which was consistent with the alkalinity of these biochars. Application of the biochars significantly decreased the concentration of phytotoxic Al (Al3+ + Al-OH), which improved canola growth and increased the canola seed and straw yields. Plant height, leaf number per plant, area per leaf, chlorophyll content, and canola yield were negatively correlated with the Al3+ + Al-OH concentrations. Therefore, the results showed that crop straw biochars can be used to ameliorate soil acidity and alleviate Al toxicity in acidic soils, and that peanut straw biochar is the best amendment for acidic soils. Cellulose was isolated from waste coconut husk (Cocos nucifera) via alkali and single bleaching treatment. The isolated cellulose (CH-A-1B) was found to have residual lignin which imparts amorphous character to the polymer matrix as confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD). Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) peak at 1507 cm−1 confirmed the presence of lignin and the appearance of three new peaks at 1320, 1416, and 1595 cm−1 showed successful attachment of carboxymethyl group onto the cellulose backbone. Carboxymethylation of cellulose from CH-A-1B produced carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) with lower crystallinity compared to that of the double bleaching treatment cellulose (CH-A-2B). The CMC film prepared by solvent-casting method from CH-A-1B using 38 wt% NaOH possessed the highest conductivity of σ = 4.82 × 10−4 mS cm−1. The electrochemical properties of the CMC polymer electrolyte and the degree of crystallinity of the polymer matrix were found to be influenced by the amount of lignin content which acts as a natural plasticizer. A paper by Onwubolu and Kumalo (2001) in this journal compared the effectiveness of genetic algorithms with several solution algorithms in solving machining condition optimization problems. By using the problem of Chen and Tsai (1996), they concluded that genetic algorithms significantly outperform simulated annealing. The present note points out that Onwubolu and Kumalo incorrectly handled the machining model. Topics discussed included the development of art therapy in Taiwan, the importance of incorporating research into education, and the potential of practice experience and self-reflection to bridge the discrepancy between approaches of Taiwanese art therapists while abroad and the local contexts they practice in.

The current study was conducted to investigate the effect of stocking density (SD) on oxidative stress status and mammary gland permeability in early lactating dairy cows. Thirty‐two dairy cows were allocated into 16 blocks, basing on parity, previous milk yield, and body weight, and were then randomly assigned into one of the two treatments as follows: 75% (75SD) and 100% (100SD) SD. The cows were fed with same diet throughout the 8‐week experimental period. The milk yield and milk sample were collected on two consecutive days during the 8‐week experimental period weekly. Plasma samples were collected on fourth and eighth experimental weeks. Raw, energy‐corrected, and 4% fat‐corrected milk yield were significantly higher in 75SD‐cows than that of 100SD‐animals, respectively. The milk somatic cell count was lower in 75SD‐cows than that of 100SD‐animals. The levels of Na+, Na+/K+, bovine serum albumin and plasmin were lower in 75SD‐cows than those of 100SD‐cattle, respectively. The 75SD‐cows had reduced insulin and insulin/glucagon levels but higher prolactin and growth hormone concentrations, compared with those of 100SD‐animals, respectively. Purpose: Synovial cyst of knee cruciate ligament (SCKCL) is a rare condition but can cause severe knee pain. The understanding of its etiology is relatively poor. This current study aimed to elucidate the pathogenesis of SCKCL based on a series of histo- and cytopathological examination.Methods: Ten SCKCL patients who underwent arthroscopy were enrolled, among five patients claimed past knee injury. Hematoxylin & eosin staining was conducted to the cyst wall tissue sections and Papanicolaou staining to the cyst fluid smear. Prussian blue staining was employed to both the wall section and fluid smear. Immumohistochemical staining for mesothelial cells (MC), epithelial cells (CK), vascular endothelial cells (CD31), monocytes (CD68), and hematogenous stem cells (CD117) were taken to elucidate the possible involvement of various cell types in the development of SCKCL.Results: No erythrocyte was discovered in the fluid; however, Prussian blue stained hemosiderin particles were found in the cyst wall and fluid, suggesting past hemorrhage in all patients. Abundant lymphocytes and plasmocytes were observed in the cyst wall and fluid. In addition, the cyst lining was infiltrated with abundant CD68(+) monocytes while only few MC(+) mesothelial cells were sporadically observed in four samples. The cyst submucosa was also diffused with abundant CD68(+) monocytes and proliferated capillaries stained with CD31. CD117-positve hematogenous stem cells were sporadically observed in eight specimens.Conclusion: Our findings provided evidence that SCKCL is not a mature synovial cyst but rather an inflammatory pseudo-cyst. Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value and prognostic value of HPV and P16 protein in patients with HSIL and to provide a reference for the clinical diagnosis and assessment of the prognosis of patients with HSIL. Methods: The surgical treatment of HSIL patients from January 2013 to January 2015 in our hospital were selected. All patients were routinely tested for HPV and P16 protein, All patients were followed up for 1 year. Patients were divided into progressive group and quiescent group according to whether the disease progressed one year after surgery. Preoperative HPV and P16 protein levels were compared between the two groups. Using receiver operating curve (ROC curve) Analysis of HPV diagnostic value of HSIL. The levels of HPV and P16 protein in the two groups were analyzed and compared. Results: The quantitative level of high-risk HPV-DNA after LEEP was significantly lower than that before operation. The level of P16 protein in preoperative patients was higher than that before operation, and the difference was statistically significant. There were 21 patients in the postoperative progression group, and the average HPV-DNA content in the patients in the progression group was higher than that in the control group within one year after operation. The difference was statistically significant. The P16 protein level in patients in advanced group was significantly higher than that in resting group. Preoperative HPV-DNA levels and P16 protein levels in patients with progressive disease were significantly higher than those in still group. ROC curve analysis showed that the cut-off value of 2.441, HPV-DNA prediction of HSIL patients one year after the recurrence of the sensitivity was 95.12%, the specificity was 76.16%, under the curve area of 0.878; 7.4 cut-off value, P16 The predictive value of HSIL patients recurrence after 1 year was 71.95%, specificity was 66.67%, and the area under the curve was 0.753. The recurrence group HPV-DNA content and P16 protein level showed a significant positive correlation, with statistical significance. Conclusions: LEEP can reduce the postoperative levels of HPV and P16 protein in patients with HSIL. The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of different stocking densities on growth performance, antioxidant capacity, and immunity of broilers. One thousand four hundred and forty 22‐day‐old Lingnan Yellow broilers were randomly allotted to five different stocking density groups (8, 10, 12, 14, and 16 birds per m2). Each group consisted of three replicates. The results showed that 8 and 10 birds/m2 groups had higher average daily feed intake (ADFI) than the others (p < 0.05). Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) in the group of 16 birds/m2 had the highest levels (p < 0.05). The group of 16 birds/m2 had the lowest total antioxidant capability (T‐AOC) and total superoxide dismutase (T‐SOD) activities in blood serum (p < 0.05), and significantly increased interleukin‐1β (IL‐1β) and interleukin‐4 (IL‐4) concentration compared to the groups of 8 and 10 birds/m2 (p < 0.05). In liver, the group of eight birds/m2 had higher T‐AOC levels than that of 12, 14, and 16 birds/m2 (p < 0.05) and also higher catalase (CAT) activities than that of 14 and 16 birds/m2 (p < 0.05); the group of 10 birds/m2 had the highest T‐SOD activities among all groups (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the above results suggest that stocking density of broilers up to 8 or 10 birds/m2 can prevent the negative effects on growth performance and welfare parameters in broilers.
