Small island ecosystems and their inhabitants face a significant threat from global warming, jeopardizing their sustainability. These communities are particularly vulnerable to the impact of climate change, as they heavily rely on natural resources for their livelihoods and are more vulnerable than mainland regions. Therefore, it is essential to take urgent action to address the challenges small island states face and promote their resilience in the face of climate change. To preserve the coastal ecosystems in Karimunjawa Islands, Indonesia, this study proposes an alternative spatial plan through micro-zonation analysis. The study conducted literature reviews and field surveys to collect data and develop recommendations for the current spatial plans through spatial, descriptive statistics, and comparative analysis. The findings show that the sea surface temperatures of Karimunjawa and Kemujan Island have increased by 1–2 ℃. Stress levels were found for coral reefs at the bleaching warning position for all Karimunjawa Island marine areas, including Kemujan Island. Legon Lele and Tanjung Gelam were found to have suspended sediment traces and indications of heavy metal contamination, making them the research focus. The Karimunjawa micro-zonation boundaries were obtained, especially in the Legon Lele and Tanjung Gelam areas, with an area of 640.63 and 817.45 ha, respectively. The proposed micro-zonation for Karimunjawa National Park refers to watershed-sedimentary cells, making it an example of implementing integrated coastal management (ICM) spatial boundaries in Karimunjawa and other nations. Disaster problems in Indonesia are complex. Apart from geographically having a high risk of disaster, community disaster literacy is low. Moreover, innovation in disaster matters is lacking, owing to the lack of 21st century skills. Further, disaster literacy and 21st century skills of prospective science teachers in Indonesia are inadequate. This study assumes that a disaster education model for prospective science teachers must be developed. Therefore, this assumption needs to be proven by conducting a needs analysis before developing the model. This study aimed to analyze the needs for the development of the Problem-Based Learning Cycle-Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics-Disaster (PBLC-STEM-D) disaster education model through a sequential-exploratory research design and thereafter develop the initial model with the analysis, design, and development stages. The results of the study revealed that it is necessary to develop the PBLC-STEM-D disaster education model for prospective science teachers. Therefore, the model was developed conceptually. Bantul Regency was originally a food-rich area with a rice surplus. However, in the last decade, land conversion has been converted to non-agricultural land, significantly reducing rice production and disrupting food security. Based on this background, this study was conducted to analyze processes, patterns, and spatial trends of land use conversion and their effects on food security conditions, both of which are the basis for recommending sustainable land use directions in Bantul Regency. The study was conducted using a mixed approach with the research population of all sub-districts in Bantul Regency, and the survey method was used to validate land conversion data. The variables in this study consist of (1) land conversion, including processes, patterns, and spatial trends, and (2) food security. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and field checks. Land conversion analysis uses the Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN=z-score), with data on the distribution of conversions from agricultural to non-agricultural land use made from LANDSAT Satellite Imagery data. The research results on the nearest neighbor distribution index from the ANN analysis show that the pattern of land use conversion at the district level is clustered. In contrast, they are clustered, random, and dispersed at the sub-district level. While at the sub-district level, the food security level is a high surplus in six sub-districts, a low surplus in eight sub-districts, and minus in three sub-districts. Directions for sustainable land use are as follows: areas that can be converted for development are three sub-districts; as a granary area are two sub-districts; and as a buffer zone are six sub-districts. Land conversion not only affects the existence of productive land, but also affects various other factors such as economic, social, and environmental factors which in turn have an impact on decreasing food production and income per capita of farming families. Tourism requires a strategy for development. The steps taken in developing tourism are quite complex. The tourism potential in the Pagilaran Tea Plantation can find a sustainable tourism model in an agro-tourism. Of course there are still many shortcomings from various aspects regarding the development of sustainable tourism in Pagilaran Tea Plantation Agrotourism, especially related to management. This study measures and examines the agro-tourism development strategy of Pagilaran Tea Plantation which has the advantage of being a sustainable tourism model with its social, economic, environmental and educational aspects. The right method used for this research is AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) because this method solves a complex unstructured situation into several components in a hierarchical arrangement, by assigning a subjective value to the relative importance of each variable, and determining which variable has the highest priority in order to influence the outcome of the situation. The results of the AHP analysis (Analytical Hierarchy Process) in obtaining priority from the criteria of factors in the sustainable tourism development strategy of Pagilaran Agrotourism, namely: Economic, Socio-Cultural, Ecological and Educational factors (0.351). The highest priority is education which gets a vector weight value (0.351). This result is in accordance with the vision and mission of the Pagilaran tea plantation company and the history of the Pagilaran tea plantation that the existence of this plantation is intended for education and research. Agrotourism is actually intended for educational tourism that provides insight and knowledge about agricultural commodities. Based on the results of the AHP analysis (Analytical Hierarchy Process) as a whole shows that the priority of alternative choices for sustainable tourism development strategies in Pagilaran Tea Plantation Agrotourism are as follows: 1st priority: Human Resources Development, 2nd priority: Tourism Infrastructure, 3rd priority: Tourism Marketing and 3rd priority: 4: Giving Capital.An alternative strategy that becomes a priority to be developed is human resource development (0.297). Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the land utilization in the erosion and landslide vulnerable mountainous region using the Rapid Appraisal for Agricultural Land Utilization (RApALU) model. Design/methodology/approach: A multidimensional RApALU model is used for sustainable agriculture land utilization. Findings: Ecological dimension was less sustainable, whereas socio-economic, socio-cultural, and eco-technological dimensions were comparatively more sustainable. It was found from the analysis that 9 out of 21 attributes have sensitive effect on the sustainability index and status. Practical implications: One of the implications of this research is that this model could be used to quickly measure the arrangement of an area that is experiencing environmental problems so that the land use planning process could be done more effectively and efficiently. The parameters used in each variable could be chosen by the researchers themselves according to location. As far as known by the researcher, the methods used have not been well integrated, they are still separated, for example, only physical problems, and social problems have not been measured properly. This model is not perfect yet, and it could be developed further because environmental problems are very complex and could be different from one location to another. Originality/value: RApALU analysis can be used as preliminary analysis to comprehend general and overall description on the status of the sustainability index of land utilization for agriculture in hilly mountainous regions. The study confirmed that RApALU analysis can help determine the status of the sustainability of land utilization in intricate areas. One of the disasters that often occur in coastal areas is abrasion. Abrasion causes coastal dynamics, including the East Coast of Rembang, Kragan Village, Kragan District, Rembang Regency. From 1975 to 1990, at least 50 meters of land from this area has been lost due to abrasion. This dynamic may become one of the causes of unsustainable management of the coastal environment and its natural resources. Various efforts have been made to overcome abrasion, but abrasion continues to hit this area, even until 2020. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were carried out in this study to discover the coast dynamics and various human activities that may trigger abrasion. Image interpretation, observation, interviews, and questionnaires were used as data collection techniques at three observation points in the Kragan Village area. This study concludes that the beach in Kragan Village has experienced dynamics with a total land loss of 46 meters from 2003 to 2020. Harmful activities carried out by humans resulted in abrasion so that the coast experienced dynamics. Indonesia is a disaster-prone country but public awareness of disasters is still low. To improve community disaster literacy, schools are the most effective vehicle. Improved disaster mitigation literacy can be achieved by integrating disaster education into subjects taught in school and associating it with the local wisdom owned by the community. This research aimed to determine and learn from the local wisdom of lamban langgakh (stilt houses), develop a disaster mitigation literacy model for subjects in schools, and identify the level of disaster mitigation literacy of junior and senior high school students in the West Coast District (WCR) of Lampung Province. The study was conducted in two stages: identifying and analyzing comprehensive information about lamban langgakh and developing an indirect teaching model as a students' disaster mitigation literacy model through the ADDIE development model. Most of the northern flank of Mt. Ungaran is subject to intensive land occupation that makes landuse change inevitable. The research objectives of this study were to examine the spatial patterns of landuse dynamics from 1997 to 2018 and to analyze their impact on the rural-urban structure of Gunungpati sub -district using on-screen digitation. Rural-urban structure was analyzed based on landuse composition by area in each village. This research revealed that forest areas and paddy fields were decreasing year by year. Over the study period of 21 years, Gunungpati experienced deforestation of 1,777 ha and increase in built-up area of 1,295 ha, forcing shifting in rural structure. Most villages that were categorized as rural frame zones in 1997 had changed into urban-rural frame zones by 2018. This situation must be controlled, since much of Gunungpati territory plays a significant role as a groundwater recharge zone for the Semarang lowland area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The approach towards disasters in Indonesia was initially responsive, sectoral and centralized, but this has changed to one that is preventive, multi-sectoral, decentralized and centered on disaster risk reduction, including through disaster education. Such education should be given to everyone in Indonesia. In addition, disaster management is conducted with a territorial approach, not one based on administrative areas. Disasterprone areas in Indonesia have been mapped, including those susceptible to geological disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, liquefaction, volcanic eruptions and landslides. However, not everyone understands spatial information related to disaster. The spatial information learning for disaster will be able to increase knowledge, capacity and skills, in order to be able to build awareness of disaster hazards to reduce disaster risk. Disaster mitigation efforts through the spatial information for disaster learning include activities such as 1) preparing and describing the spatial information for disaster; 2) socializing the spatial information for disaster understanding to increase disaster awareness; 3) knowing the benefits of the spatial information for disaster for self-rescue; and 4) conducting spatial analysis to organize disaster-prone areas and reduce disaster threats. The strategy for disaster learning is conducted through learning by doing, including conceptual and practical approaches, and having a strong conscious attitude. The spatial information for disaster will provide basic knowledge of disasters to determine their forms, processes, potential threats, vulnerabilities, capacities and disaster risks.
