The OKEANOS mission utilizing the Solar Power Sail is one of the candidates of the strategic middle-class space exploration to the outer Solar System lead by the JAXA. The mission is planning to be launched in 2030’s, and rendezvous for spectral observations and landing for in-situ measurements of light isotopes and organic molecules to a D or P type Jupitar Trojan asteroid in 2040’s. The flagship instrument on board is a high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) system together with suits of remote-sensing instruments. Through in-depth scientific observations, the OKEANOS mission will provide critical input to the key questions of (1) constraining planet formation/migration theories, and (2) inventory and distribution of volatiles in the Solar System. We have conducted experimental tests of a sample canister sealing by a metal seal knifeedge, sample canister-MULTUM test, gas chromatograph-MULTUM coupling test for organics, and H and N isotopic measurements in the atmospheric air. Current performances are (1) high mass resolution was 30,000 at m/z = 20, (2) sample canister system with a knife-edge metal seal kept 90 % of a released gas in 1 hour for Cu or Au gaskets with/without regolith, (3) error meets the required precision and accuracy for nitrogen isotopic measurement but for hydrogen. We investigated serum C-peptide immunoreactivity (CPR) levels in registered data from a multi-center collaborative nationwide type 1 diabetes study. The CPR levels were obtained from 576 and 409 children during the early registration (2013/2014) and late observation (2016/2017) periods, respectively. The percentages of children with a CPR < 0.1 or < 0.3 ng/mL increased according to the duration since diagnosis. Among patients with 5 or more years since diagnosis, 69% had a CPR < 0.1 and 95% had a CPR < 0.3 in the early registration period. A significant negative correlation was observed between the HbA1c and the CPR levels, and the HbA1c levels were significantly higher among children with a CPR < 0.1 or < 0.3 than among those with a CPR = 0.6 ng/mL. During the late observation period, the prevalence of a CPR < 0.1 ng/mL was 88% among long-standing patients and 77% among patients aged 18-20 yr. Regarding the characteristics of "Responders" with a sustained CPR = 0.6 ng/mL at 5 or more years since diagnosis, six of the seven were adolescent females; five of the seven had an HLA DR4-DQ4 haplotype. When type 1A diabetes mellitus (T1AD) children transit to adult care centers, most of them may have some difficulty in glycemic control because of the depleted endogenous insulin. Background: Monogenic mutations, such as those in the potassium inwardly-rectifying channel, subfamily J, member 11 (KCNJ11) and insulin (INS) genes, are identified in young patients with type 1B diabetes (non-autoimmune-mediated). We recently reported the results of a test for monogenic forms of diabetes in Japanese children who were diagnosed with type 1B diabetes at < 5 years of age. In this study, we tested for monogenic forms of diabetes in Japanese children aged > 5 to ≤ 15.1 years at the diagnosis of type 1B diabetes. Methods: Thirty-two Japanese children (eight males, 24 females) with type 1 diabetes negative for glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) 65 and/or IA-2A autoantibodies and who were aged > 5 to 15.1 years at diagnosis were recruited from 16 independent hospitals participating in the Japanese Study Group of Insulin Therapy for Childhood and Adolescent Diabetes (JSGIT). We performed mutational analyses of genes with a high frequency of mutation [INS, KCNJ11, hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 alpha (HNF1α) and hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha (HNF4α)]. Results: We identified one missense mutation (G32S) in the INS gene and two mutations (R131Q and R203S) in the HNF1a gene that could be associated with diabetes. No missense change was found in the KCNJ11 gene. Conclusions: Our results suggest that although mutations in the INS gene can be detected in Japanese patients aged > 5 years at diagnosis, the frequency of mutations decrease in older age groups. Conversely, the frequency of the mutation in the HNF1α gene increased in patients diagnosed at age 5 or older. Clinicians should consider the possibility of maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) in children diagnosed with type 1B diabetes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article present a study that found that chromosome 6q24 methylation defects are uncommon in childhood-onset non-autoimmune diabetes mellitus patients born appropriate- or large-for-gestational age. It says that methylation defects in the imprinting locus at chromosome 6q24 result in transient neonatal diabetes and small-for-gestational age (SGA) births.

The article presents a case study of a Japanese patient who was diagnosed with permanent neonatal diabetes mellitus (PNDM) caused by ABCC8 gene mutation. A heterozygous missense mutation was detected through sequencing analysis. It mentions that the mutation was controlled with oral glibenclamide therapy.
