In this brief paper, I examine a specific section of Martin Heidegger's Letter on Humanism, where the German philosopher attempts to define the foundational relationship between ontology and ethics. More precisely, I aim to offer an interpretation of this passage that emphasizes the role of disciplines somewhat removed from the core of ontological theory - ranging from sociology of knowledge and depth psychology to the philosophy of science. My study does not shy away from presenting "heretical" ideas, which have yet to be considered by others, and I am willing to take responsibility for the potential criticism this may incur. The argument includes the theory of the unconscious as proposed by Freud, as well as aspects of deconstructionism, which later achieved prominence in the postmodern era. In the final section of the paper, I devote special attention to a startling conclusion: an anecdote about Heraclitus, as discussed by Heidegger, leads me to infer that "das Man", granted total anonymity by Being and Time, can, in certain historical contexts, become identifiable with specific individuals or powers. Recently, South Korea has become one of the largest content providers for Netflix. We analyze the textual characteristics of five Netflix Originals K-dramas – Sweet Home (2020), My Name (2021), Squid Game (2021), Hellbound (2021), and All of Us Are Dead (2022) – to unfold the existing genre conventions and uniquely local factors in the context of transnational television. In the process of transnationalization, genres are continuously and simultaneously evolving in the directions of homogenization and heterogenization. Universal values such as humanism, altruism, and family-oriented solidarity, as expected in the existing genre conventions, were homogenizing factors. However, these homogenizing factors were accompanied by uniquely local, heterogenizing factors arising from traumatic collective memories, political, and economic situations in South Korea. We also found that webtoons played a significant role in the transnationalization of the K-dramas genre. This study contributes to genre studies and transnational television research. Background: There is a growing international policy focus on involving those affected by healthcare safety incidents, in subsequent investigations. Nonetheless, there remains little UK-based evidence exploring how this relates to the experiences of those affected over time, including the factors influencing decisions to litigate. Aims: We aimed to explore the experiences of patients, families, staff and legal representatives affected by safety incidents over time, and the factors influencing decisions to litigate. Methods: Participants were purposively recruited via (i) communication from four NHS hospital Trusts or an independent national investigator in England, (ii) relevant charitable organizations, (iii) social media, and (iv) word of mouth to take part in a qualitative semi-structured interview study. Data were analyzed using an inductive reflexive thematic approach. Findings: 42 people with personal or professional experience of safety incident investigations participated, comprising patients and families (n = 18), healthcare staff (n = 7), legal staff (n = 1), and investigators (n = 16). Patients and families started investigation processes with cautious hope, but over time, came to realize that they lacked power, knowledge, and support to navigate the system, made clear in awaited investigation reports. Systemic fear of litigation not only failed to meet the needs of those affected, but also inadvertently led to some pursuing litigation. Staff had parallel experiences of exclusion, lacking support and feeling left with an incomplete narrative. Importantly, investigating was often perceived as a lonely, invisible and undervalued role involving skilled "work" with limited training, resources, and infrastructure. Ultimately, elusive "organizational agendas" were prioritized above the needs of all affected. Conclusions: Incident investigations fail to acknowledge and address emotional distress experienced by all affected, resulting in compounded harm. To address this, we propose five key recommendations, to: (1) prioritize the needs of those affected by incidents, (2) overcome culturally engrained fears of litigation to re-humanize processes and reduce rates of unnecessary litigation, (3) recognize and value the emotionally laborious and skilled work of investigators (4) inform and support those affected, (5) proceed in ways that recognize and seek to reduce social inequities. This research aims to explore the noble values of humanism contained in Said Ramadhan al-Buthi's syarah al-Hikam. One important problem to explore in relation to the noble values of humanism in this book is the problem of inequality. Therefore, the research questions in this study can be formulated as follows: (1) how are the noble values of humanism interpreted in syarah al-Hikam based on a Systemic Functional Translation Studies (SFTS) approach, and (2) what strategies are designed to reduce tensions of inequality based on the Sufi texts. The data in this study are the source text (L1) (Arabic) and the target text (L2) (Indonesian and English) in Said Ramadhan al-Buthi's monumental book syarah al-Hikam. The general design of the research is a descriptive qualitative study. The data analysis uses Spradley's model, including: (1) a domain analysis to map the information structure in syarah al-Hikam, (2) a taxonomic analysis to elaborate the noble human values in the book, (3) a componential analysis to unify the information structure and human values found in the Sufi texts, and (4) an analysis of cultural themes, which concludes that the text of al-Hikam not only examines spiritual issues but also strives comprehensively to show the implementation of human values in everyday life. The contribution of this research is an attempt to reduce tensions of inequality based on Sufi texts and to interpret the Arabic text based on a linguistic approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article explores the animist socio-cultural fabric of the Indigenous Meitei community in Manipur, India, to locate the feminist counterspaces embedded within it through a (con)textual analysis of two short stories from the anthology Wari (2019) by the Meitei author Linthoi Chanu. In this exploration, we conceptualize a distinctive praxis of Indigenous Meitei 'femanimism' – intertwining Indigenous Meitei feminism with animist philosophies. Furthermore, our discussion illuminates how the Indigenous Meitei 'femanimist' praxis, embodying a non-dualistic and relational genderscape, prefigures the emergent Western Feminist Posthumanist theoretical discourses, particularly hydrofeminist and vital materialist concepts of fluid and entangled human embodiment. Accordingly, the present study endeavours to bridge a synergistic conversation between Indigenous Meitei 'femanimist' praxis and the contemporary Western theoretical currents of Feminist Posthumanities, aspiring to forge a decolonized feminist vista that transcends hierarchical binaries of gender (man/woman), humanism (human/non-human), and colonialism (the Indigenous as primitive vis-à-vis the Western as modern). In this paper, the scholar explores the meaning of the phenomenon of feeling isolated as a universal humanuniverse living experience with the humanbecoming concept inventing model. For the scholar, the now-truth of feeling isolated is turbulent seclusion arising with sureness-unsureness of diverse affiliations. This paper provides a comparison and critique of four nursing theories that define nursing as caring for nursing in Iran. The theory evaluation model provided by Meleis was used to organize this comparison. It consists of five phases: description, analysis, criticism, test, and support. The four theories are Jean Watson's theory of human caring, Katie Eriksson's theory of caritative caring, Kari Martinsen's philosophy of caring, and Anne Boykin and Savina Schoenhofer's theory of nursing as caring. While little has been written on the development of caring theory specific to an Iranian context, the authors in this paper seek to move forward the conversation and support the application of nursing as caring in Iran. There is a well‐established asymmetry in our judgments of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) in sports and in other competitive activities. When an athlete is found using such drugs, it is a scandal that prompts public outrage, fan disappointment, and even loss of title. It seems that we judge enhanced results cannot be genuinely attributed to athletes. There is no similar reaction to use of PEDs in art, science, music, literature, business, and other human endeavors. The question I tackle in this paper is whether this disanalogy is justified: Is there some underlying difference in virtue of which PEDs should be thus stigmatized in sports but not elsewhere? I survey a couple of potential justifications that I find lacking. I then consider the difference in our judgments of the participation of superman‐like characters in sports (which we censure) and in other activities (which we endorse). I argue that the fact that the athlete is human is relevant to the value of sports—and by extension, the status of the effort involved—while this fact plays no significant role with regard to the value of other activities and that this difference in the value of activities ultimately justifies our differing judgments here. I then return to my initial question and examine whether similar appeal to what is human can justify the varying judgments of the use of PEDs. I argue that it can but only under certain assumptions. Issue: Cultural safety enhances equitable communication between health care providers and cultural groups. Most documented cultural safety training initiatives focus on Indigenous populations from high-income countries, and nursing students, with little research activity reported from low- and middle-income countries. Several cultural safety training initiatives have been described, but a modern competency-based cultural safety curriculum is needed. Evidence: In this article, we present the Competency-Based Education and Entrustable Professional Activities frameworks of the Faculty of Medicine at La Sabana University in Colombia, and illustrate how this informed modernization of medical education. We describe our co-designed cultural safety training learning objectives and summarize how we explored its impact on medical education through mixed-methods research. Finally, we propose five cultural safety intended learning outcomes adapted to the updated curriculum, which is based on the Competency-Based Education model. Implications: This article presents five cultural safety intended learning outcomes for undergraduate medical education. These learning outcomes are based on Competency-Based Education and the Entrustable Professional Activities framework and can be used by faculties of medicine interested in including the cultural safety approach in their curriculum. The reemergence of aesthetics in China's early reform period witnessed a wide-ranging embrace of the early Marxist vocabulary of species-being, alienation, and unalienated labor, in tandem with a wave of interest in developments in Soviet aesthetics that had arisen over the 1960s and 1970s. Above all, Chinese aestheticians were enthused by the Soviet field of "technical aesthetics," which marked those currents in Soviet aesthetic thought that extended the possibilities of beauty beyond the delimited space of the artwork or literary creation to envision how factory labor might become an aesthetic process, simultaneously productive and artistic. By tracing the trajectory of these currents of aesthetic thought against the background of Marxist humanism, I show the ways in which Soviet–Chinese aesthetic encounters conditioned the fashioning of the post-Maoist factory as creative space and the postsocialist figure of the human as creative laborer. Background: Epistemic violence is enacted in medical curricula in mundane ways all the time, negatively impacting learners, teachers and patients. In this article, we address three forms of such violence: White supremacy, indigenous erasure and heteronormativity. Methods: In this article, we examine the knowledge systems of medicine as a global phenomenon, impacted by Western and European ideologies of race and colonisation, both produced by them, helping to reproduce them through authoritative and hegemonic ideologies. We seek not only to problematise but also to propose alternative teaching approaches rooted in the Global South and in Indigenous ways of knowing. Taking inspiration from Paulo Freire, we advocate for the development of critical consciousness through the integration of critical pedagogies of love, emancipation and shared humanity. Drawing on Irihapeti Ramsden, we advocate for cultural safety, which emphasises power relations and historical trauma in the clinical encounter and calls for a rights‐based approach in medical education. Deliberately holding space for our own vulnerabilities and that of our students requires what Megan Boler calls a pedagogy of discomfort. Conclusions and Significance: Our perspectives converge on the importance of critical consciousness development for culturally safe practice in medical education, acknowledging the need to emphasise a curriculum of shared humanity, introducing the concept of Ubuntu from Southern Africa. Ubuntu can be encapsulated in the phrase 'I am because we are', and it promotes a collective approach to medical education in which there is active solidarity between the profession and the diverse populations which it serves. The authors confront the coloniality, systemic racism and Indigenous erasure inherent in medical curricula and propose a way forward through pedagogies of love and shared humanity. Background: Healthcare organisations risk harming patients and their families twofold. First, through the physical, emotional and/or financial harm caused by safety incidents themselves, and second, through the organisational response to incidents. The former is well-researched and targeted by interventions. However, the latter, termed 'compounded harm' is rarely acknowledged. Aims: We aimed to explore the ways compounded harm is experienced by patients and their families as a result of organisational responses to safety incidents and propose how this may be reduced in practice. Methods: We used framework analysis to qualitatively explore data derived from interviews with 42 people with lived or professional experience of safety incident responses. This comprised 18 patients/relatives, 16 investigators, seven healthcare staff and one legal staff. People with lived and professional experience also helped to shape the design, conduct and findings of this study. Findings: We identified six ways that patients and their families experienced compounded harm because of incident responses. These were feeling: (1) powerless, (2) inconsequential, (3) manipulated, (4) abandoned, (5) de-humanised and (6) disoriented. Discussion: It is imperative to reduce compounded harm experienced by patients and families. We propose three recommendations for policy and practice: (1) the healthcare system to recognise and address epistemic injustice and equitably support people to be equal partners throughout investigations and subsequent learning to reduce the likelihood of patients and families feeling powerless and inconsequential; (2) honest and transparent regulatory and organisational cultures to be fostered and enacted to reduce the likelihood of patients and families feeling manipulated; and (3) the healthcare system to reorient towards providing restorative responses to harm which are human centred, relational and underpinned by dignity, safety and voluntariness to reduce the likelihood of patients and families feeling abandoned, de-humanised and disoriented. Conflict-affected regions face severe reproductive health challenges that disproportionately impact adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) and children, who are especially vulnerable due to the breakdown of healthcare systems and limited access to essential services. AGYW are at heightened risk due to restricted access to family planning, prenatal care, and emergency obstetric services, while children face malnutrition, disease outbreaks, and developmental delays. These challenges have profound long-term consequences for both their physical and psychological well-being. This commentary explores the underlying causes of reproductive health challenges in conflict zones, including the collapse of healthcare infrastructure, increased sexual violence, forced displacement, and the specific vulnerabilities AGYW and children face. The commentary underscores the urgent need for interventions that address both immediate and systemic gaps in reproductive healthcare, particularly for AGYW and children. A unique policy framework is proposed, integrating emergency reproductive health interventions—such as mobile clinics and emergency health kits—with long-term strategies for rebuilding healthcare systems. The framework emphasizes gender-sensitive, context-specific approaches and sustained investments in healthcare infrastructure to effectively address these challenges and mitigate the long-term effects on vulnerable populations. By aligning with global and regional policy frameworks, including the Inter-Agency Working Group on Reproductive Health in Crises (IAWG) and the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP), the commentary advocates for embedding reproductive health into all phases of humanitarian action—from emergency response to recovery. This integrated approach provides actionable recommendations to improve the well-being of AGYW, children, and other vulnerable populations, fostering sustainable advancements in reproductive health outcomes. Background: Despite the critical importance of humanized healthcare for transgender individuals, no existing measures specifically assess care humanization for this population. The Transgender Health Care Humanization Scale (THcH Scale) was developed to address this gap, yet it initially lacked confirmatory validation. This study validates the Transgender THcH scale for evaluating healthcare providers' sensitivity towards transgender patients. Methods: This study involved 443 healthcare professionals and students from a public university and associated hospital. Participants were divided randomly into two groups for Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA). Using the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin Measure of Sampling Adequacy and Bartlett's Test of Sphericity, EFA confirmed data suitability for factor analysis. Factors were identified using parallel analysis with an oblique Promax rotation to allow for inter-factor correlations. The internal consistency of the factors was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. CFA was performed using Maximum Likelihood estimation, with goodness-of-fit evaluated by multiple indices. The THcH Scale's divergent validity was assessed through Spearman's correlation analysis with the Duke University Religion Index (DUREL). Results: Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analyses confirmed the scale's two-factor structure with excellent psychometric properties, including high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha > 0.8) and good fit indices (χ²/df = 1.74, CFI = 0.972, TLI = 0.964, GFI = 0.989, RMSEA = 0.069, SRMR = 0.043). Divergent validity was established through moderate correlations with the DUREL index. Conclusions: The THcH scale is a reliable and valid tool for promoting sensitivity and awareness among healthcare professionals, thereby enhancing healthcare access and quality for the transgender population. We discuss how biosemiotics sheds light on a problem that characterizes the social reproduction system today in globalisation, how social and political systems threaten life on the planet. These reflections engage global semiotics developed as semioethics where "ethics" resounds as entanglement in the I-other relation. Like medical semeiotic at the origin of semiotics, semioethics elects life as a primary value. Biosemiotics reveals the condition of interconnectivity, co-implication, interdependency among all lifeforms. As such it is an important reference for semioethics which in turn underlines how life in the social, political, economic and broadly cultural spheres is subject to the biological, thus how values, ideologies and responsibilities enter the same great semiobiosphere where bodies and signs are co-dependent and respond to each other in semiosis. Central notions for signs and society are questioned in this framework, firstly humanism of identity. I-other entanglement is global, the condition for life to flourish. This article addresses a novel sense of 'post-humanism'. 'Post' must mean not only 'after', I argue, but also 'postal'. The determination of the human's humanness in terms of sending and receiving, following Martin Heidegger, grounds a radical humanism that breaks with previous forms of humanisms. To substantiate these stakes, I turn to Gabriel García Márquez's Chronicle of a Death Foretold because, although all literature—according to Jacques Derrida—has an 'epistolary' structure, the novel marks this epistolary structure and its humanist stakes with particular force and clarity. Interest in the role of technology and movement is growing in outdoor environmental education (OEE) research. However, there are many unexamined assumptions involving both non-digital technology and movement for outdoor learners. In this paper, we explore learning landscapes through non-digital technology and movement involving canoe journeys in south-eastern Australia. We examine ways that technology and movement come together to help shape learning orientations through situated examples from OEE fieldwork. Our investigations utilise posthumanist and process-relational theories for exploring onto-epistemological dimensions of outdoor learning. We bring such theory into conversation with photos, videos and student essays to analyse our fieldwork contexts. We highlight that technology and movement cannot be taken for granted; rather, they help constitute the ways we come to know places. We also acknowledge some cultural and conceptual aspects that overlap to influence learning. In my book I focus on building a theory about the relationship of moral education and citizenship education in a globalising world and the role of teachers and policy. As Hansen points out, I take a normative stance: enhancing democracy, social justice, a global orientation, and equity in schools and society is the vision that motivates and informs my academic work. Hansen highlights the influence of moral philosophy, psychology and pedagogy on my work; I also try to include sociological perspectives. The most critical point raised by Hansen concerns my treatment of cosmopolitanism. Moral values in global citizenship education can present a horizon and can motivate people. But the political changes need to be realised in practice. Due to recent global, national and psychological developments, societal and educational processes are becoming more complex and—arguing from a critical-democratic perspective—demand education programmes and practices based on reflection, inclusion, dialogue, the appreciation of diversity, and deliberation. This article engages in a dialogue between the African philosophy of Ubuntu (humanity bound up in the other) and the Korean philosophy of Samae (love bound up in the other) to advocate for the emergence of a philosophy of agapeic humanism. Some structures (laws, standards, conventions, protocol and institutions), ideologies, ethics and socio‐cultural practices of indigenous African communities have particularistic, exclusive, egocentric and discriminatory strains that are in contradiction to communalism and its principles upon which the traditional African world‐view is claimed to be founded. For instance, in indigenous Igbo communities in Africa, double standards are applied in their treatment of in‐groups and out‐groups, and their religious and moral codes cannot be invoked for an offence committed by an in‐group member against an outsider (an out‐group member), thus making such ethics and practices trans‐communally/racially inapplicable and therefore non‐universalisable. The article employs analytical, critical and comparative fusion methods to approach particularism in traditional Africa communities. While the analytical method facilitates the theorisation of Ubuntu and Samae, the critical approach critiques prevailing, narrowly defined conceptions of humanism prevalent among the Igbo people of Nigeria. Through the method of comparative fusion, the article integrates elements of Ubuntu and Samae to propose the concept of agapeic humanism. It concludes that the interchange between African and Asian philosophies holds the promise of transcending particularistic limitations within the current humanistic paradigm, thereby fostering new perspectives on shared humanity rooted in practical agape love. The post-war generation of Marxist Slovak intelligentsia was formed from people who had experience with the war and this experience in the fight against fascism, together with the pre-war social situation, were the main reasons of their inclinations towards the theory of socialism and at the same time caused their sharp criticism of the Church and its ideas. Jaroslav Čelko can also be included in the generation of these authors, and this paper describes and explores his ideas and their influence on the development of secular humanism during the existence of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and after its disintegration. At the same time, the aim of the paper is to evaluate the influences and connections between the ideas of scientific atheism (including examples of the works of Jaroslav Čelko) and secular humanism in Slovakia. The aim of the present paper is to examine ethical and moral philosophical thinking in Slovakia in the 1950s and 1960s, with particular emphasis on the content of the journal Filozofia published by the Slovak Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA). This study analyses how political and social transformations, especially after February 1948, influenced philosophical discourse, paying particular attention to the development and reformulation of ethical and moral concepts. The main hypothesis of the paper is that, despite the dominant influence of Marxist-Leninist philosophy in the period under study, efforts to criticize and reinterpret this ideology gradually emerged in the 1960s, while alternative approaches began to take shape. The first part of the study focuses on an analysis of the journal Filozofia from its beginnings in 1946 to the end of the 1950s. The second part examines how the authors gradually revised the dogmatic principles of Marxist-Leninist philosophy, criticized Stalinist distortions, and opened the way for new ethical and moral approaches. Processes of identity formation have long been a consideration for the field of counselling. Undertaking counselling education can be a fraught time for student counsellors, with increased anxiety and stress, and educators and researchers need to better grasp the complexities inherent in the development of new counsellors. This paper reviews research drawing on humanistic understandings of identity for counsellors-in-training before engaging with the recent ontological turn to a posthuman framework, emergent across the social sciences. Through attention to the emergence of the tears of counsellors-in-training in counselling encounters, a posthuman reconceptualising of "becoming-counsellor" is put forward. Such an orientation produces a shift to entangled, dynamic, iterative processes of becoming, with attention to myriad forces shaping counsellor identities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores the possibility of covenantal pluralism in Zambia: Is it possible to develop a new approach for living together in a country with both religious and ethnic differences? Theoretically, it seems likely that Zambian citizens would likely benefit from expanding covenantal pluralism. However, while the paper discovers empirical evidence of popular support for key conditions and propositions of covenantal pluralism, progress seems slow. The paper uncovers little evidence that Zambia's government diligently pursues covenantal pluralism, arguably because it might undermine a key source of governmental legitimacy—Zambia as a "Christian nation." Background: Nurses frequently experience ethical issues in their area of practice. In the challenging reality of today's healthcare environment, nursing students need to be prepared to deal with ethical issues in their future roles. Nevertheless, Chinese nursing students' ethical sensitivity status and the factors influencing it have not been described. Objective: This study aims to explore the level of ethical sensitivity and its influencing factors among Chinese nursing students. Research design: This was a cross-sectional study. We firstly cross-culturally adapted the Japanese version of the Ethical Sensitivity Questionnaire for Nursing Students (ESQ-NS) into a Chinese version. Then, we administered the Chinese version of ESQ-NS, the Caring Ability Inventory (CAI), and general information questionnaire to nursing undergraduates. Participants and research context: The invitations were sent to 600 nursing undergraduates from four universities in Hunan, China. Ethical considerations: The study was supported by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the lead university. The Approval No. was E202092. Results: A total of 489 undergraduate nursing students participated in the study. The mean score for ethical sensitivity of the samples was 36.34 ± 4.90, and 187.99 ± 22.64 for their humanistic care ability. Pearson's correlation coefficient test indicated a meaningful and positive relationship between the ethical sensitivity and humanistic care ability (r = 0.576 and p <.01). And regression analysis showed that age, school year, experience in studying nursing ethics, how much you like nursing major, and humanistic care ability were of relevance to nursing students' ethical sensitivity. Discussion: Our findings suggest that the mean ethical sensitivity score of Chinese nursing students is 36.34 (13–52). The humanistic caring ability of Chinese nursing students is still at a low level. Conclusion: Future interventions for improving the ethical sensitivity of the nursing students should consider general information of participants and their humanistic care ability. This essay reviews three recently published books on the intellectual history of the Italian Renaissance. In his survey of Italian humanism in the "long fifteenth century" (c. 1350–c. 1525) The Intellectual World of the Italian Renaissance, Christopher Celenza argues that the intellectual project of the humanists was centred on questions regarding language, philosophy, and the stance of the intellectual toward institutions. Celenza traces the fortunes and mutations of the humanist project into the modern era in The Italian Renaissance and the Origins of the Humanities, and expresses concern that in today's universities the balance struck by the humanists between "openness" and "boundary-generating habits" unduly favours the latter. Humanism, according to James Hankins's Virtue Politics, was primarily about repairing politics by first reforming the moral character of Italy's ruling elites. The language and literature of Roman and Greek antiquity provided the models for this education in virtue. Hankins believes the humanists' educational and cultural programme offers a salutary corrective to our misplaced, post-Machiavellian trust in legal constraints and constitutional guardrails to regulate contemporary political life. Psychological research has long focused on assessing the negative and dark triad sides of human nature while the positive aspect has been understudied. The Light Triad Scale presents a measure to assess the positive or light side of people. The aim of this study was to adapt and investigate the psychometric properties of an Arabic version of the Light Triad Scale. A sample of 823 respondents (73.6% females and 26.4% males, mean age = 26.4, SD = 8.2, range = 14–63) participated in this study. They completed the Arabic version of the Light Triad Scale, the Dirty Dozen Scale, and a set of demographic questions. Exploratory factor analysis, concurrent validity, measurement invariance, item response theory, and reliability analysis were used to validate the scale. Exploratory factor analysis and the Minimum Average Partial (MAP) suggested a three-factor model similar to the original study. Concurrent validity, and internal consistency reliability were supported with moderate Pearson and Cronbach's alpha coefficients. The study emphasizes that the Arabic version of the Light Triad Scale is valid and reliable to be used in research and practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It explores the Utopian language as both functional and a historical artifact, emphasizing its role in revealing cultural history and change over time. It also highlights the influence of antiquarianism in Renaissance humanism.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess how self-compassion affects the psychological well-being of radiographers at work. Methods: An online survey was sent to radiology and radiotherapy departments in Rhône-Alpes, a region of France (from October 2021 to February 2022). The study is mixed: quantitative data, with closed questions and two validated scales, and qualitative data, with open questions aimed at assessing perceptions among radiologists as regards self-compassion. Results: A total of 253 radiographers (mean age 32.9 years), took part in this survey. Radiographers reported a poor level of well-being and a moderate level of self-compassion. We found a link between well-being at work and self-compassion. Gender, age, number of years of experience and the desire to receive training on well-being appear to have an impact on the level of self-compassion. The perception of self-compassion by radiologists is essentially positive. Conclusion: Particular attention should be paid to radiologists who are female, young, and with only a few years of experience. Self-compassion is a protective factor for radiologists and may help them take care of themselves to continue caring for others. This special issue asks what happens to international research and collaboration when the research community becomes temporarily immobilized. The COVID-19 global pandemic powerfully disrupted normal ways of doing research and, therefore, created a perfect natural experiment of the "otherwise" for digital qualitative research in sensitive contexts. The collected papers argue that the lessons extracted from this recent global health crisis should shape our thinking on qualitative research amid crisis and research on the crisis. The authors speak to core themes like the digital platforming of research, continued inequality in research relations, and the concept of compounding crises. The special issue reflects on the authors' own experiences with international collaborations during COVID-19 in a multiplicity of contexts from Peru, to Pakistan, Mexico and the Great Lakes Region of Africa. This introductory essay argues that the uniquely rapid and global context of COVID-19 offered a glimpse into one possible alterity of research production. It extracts lessons for the present and future, not only for other global crises, but for willed disruptions of research relations so that these are marked by less inequality and more balanced power relations. Aims: Based on the conservation of resources theory, this study explored the intermediary role of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses' recovery experience and humanistic care ability between leisure crafting and work engagement. Background: As the ICU is an important life‐saving department, the level of work engagement of nurses directly affect the quality of life and health outcomes of patients. Actively seeking countermeasures to improve the work engagement level of ICU nurses is of great significance to enhancing the nursing quality of the ICU. According to the theory of resource conservation, the resources owned by individuals are limited and must be replenished promptly and effectively to maintain relatively stable physical, mental, and working states. Therefore, determining ways for ICU nurses to supplement the consumed resources effectively and efficiently in a limited time to maintain a high level of work engagement is the main concern of this study. Methods: In this cross‐sectional study from January 2023 to March 2023, 478 ICU nurses were recruited by convenience sampling. The survey tools included the Leisure Crafting Scale, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale‐9, the Caring Ability Inventory, and the Recovery Experience Questionnaire. Descriptive data and Pearson correlation coefficients were analyzed via SPSS 26.0 (IBM Corp.). PROCESS v4.0 (by Andrew F. Hayes) Macro Model 6 was applied to analyze the serial multiple mediator models. We used the STROBE checklist to report the results. Results: First, the results showed that leisure crafting, humanistic care ability, and recovery experience were positively correlated with work engagement. Second, recovery experience and humanistic care ability played a partially mediating role between leisure crafting and work engagement, respectively. Third, recovery experience and humanistic care ability also had a serial mediation effect between leisure crafting and work engagement. Conclusion: The findings of the study indicated that improving nurses' active control of leisure time may have particularly positive effects on ICU nurses' work engagement through increasing recovery experience and humanistic care ability. Implications for nursing and nursing policy: Administrators can formulate intervention measures to improve the leisure crafting level of ICU nurses, promote work–life balance, which enhances recovery and supports engagement with patient‐focused humanistic care, and have a positive impact on the work engagement of ICU nurses. The European Union (EU) is portrayed as a "normative power" that promotes democracy. How does identifying with the EU identity predict citizens' responses to a war between two non‐EU countries, where one (Ukraine) appears as the victim (i.e., a nation suffering significant harm as a result of military aggression by another country) and the other (Russia) as the aggressor (i.e., a nation initiating military aggression against another country)? This study tested two contrasting, yet not mutually exclusive hypotheses. Based on the underlying idea that Ukraine is perceived to share similar (European) values while Russia is perceived to deviate from these values, the "humanitarian influence of the EU identity hypothesis" hypothesized that identification with the EU identity predicts increased support for the victim group (Ukraine) and condemnation of the aggressor group over time. Based on the "protective effect of EU identity hypothesis," however, a reverse temporal order was also hypothesized. We conducted a two two‐wave study among Greek participants. Our findings provided full support for the first hypothesis and partial support for the second hypothesis. Deemed consent legislation for deceased organ donation was introduced in England in 2020, and is considered a vital part of the new UK NHS Blood and Transplant's 10-year strategy to increase consent for organ donation. Despite the legislation containing safeguards to protect the public, the introduction of deemed consent creates ethical, psychological and social un/certainties for healthcare professionals in their practice. In this paper, we offer insights into healthcare professionals' perspectives on deemed consent, drawn from interview data with 24 healthcare professionals in an NHS Trust in England, prior to the introduction of the legislation. Whilst participants supported deemed consent in principle, they were concerned that it would present a threat to the nature of donation as a 'gift'; the notion of informed consent (or non-consent); and the autonomy of donors, their relatives, and their own roles as health professionals, posing dilemmas for practice. We argue that healthcare professionals present themselves as guardians of potential (non)donors and thus as having ethics and integrity in their own practice. We draw conclusions around the values and principles that matter to healthcare professionals when contemplating consent in deceased donation which will be useful for organ donation committees and ethics forums. The humanities have begun to embrace self-consciously the idea that our present age has exhausted the plausibility of philosophical humanism. This paper attempts to explain the condition of our posthumanism as the result of a tacit deferral to an exclusively scientific picture of the reality behind all causal explanations. A new role for the philosophy of religion therefore arises in the need and opportunity to reconsider the supernatural, and specifically supernaturalism about mind/body substance dualism, in order to maintain a reasonable optimism about humanity's identity and significance as a privileged kind, despite the apparent indifference of our universe to personhood. The basis for this optimism is arguably the otherwise inexplicable power and reach of scientific explanation. Ultimately, the resulting supernatural posthumanism is suggested to yield new confidence and motivation towards evaluating competing sources of putative divine revelation philosophically. Changing concepts, understood as social constructs and facets of linguistic expressions, and likewise the mechanisms of change and the dynamicity of their contents, cannot be adequately analysed without a holistic perspective of a language system on the one hand, and a multi-layered perspective of conversational interaction on the other. I take on board a case study of the concept humanism, in particular in its relation to speciesism, to argue for such a broad perspective when discussing concept revision, including its deliberate and automatic aspects. Section 1 sets out the scene and the objectives, emphasising the importance of metapragmatic concerns. In Sect. 2, I briefly introduce some relevant terms and debates surrounding concepts, lexemes, and their dynamicity. Section 3 moves to the question of the foundations of meaning and points out the importance of addressing it in the context of these debates. Section 4 contains the case study of the concept humanism and the insights it offers for carving out the boundaries of inquiry into the life of a concept, focusing on the importance of broadly understood propositional content and the non-propositional overlay as they are dynamically constructed in discourse—and, as such, on the importance of metapragmatic concerns. What happens to ethical discourse when it begins by interrogating the givenness of the moral subject? This question lies at the heart of Butler's ethics. The stakes of that question emerge most saliently in Butler's reading of Foucault in Giving an Account of Oneself, where they engage, specifically, a famous Foucauldian line from 1968: "Discourse is not life; its time is not yours." How might we read, today, the political stakes of Butler's ethical uptake of Foucault against the backdrop of the anti-authoritarian, anticolonial 1960s Tunisian scene that gave rise to Foucault's comments about discourse and time? Responding to this question, this essay reframes Foucault's antihumanism as explicitly anticolonial. In doing so, it brings to the fore crucial differences and overlaps between Foucault and Butler with regard to subjectivity, politics, and the question of the human. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Frequent presentations to emergency departments contribute to increased service demands and healthcare costs. Literature suggests these adult presentations may be influenced by childhood adversity. This qualitatively driven, mixed methods study explored the self‐perceived role of childhood adversity in the health of adults who frequently attended Australian Emergency Departments and their perceptions of the healthcare they received. Data were collected using validated instruments and semi‐structured interviews with 12 purposefully sampled adults who frequently attended emergency departments. Qualitative data were analysed using interpretive phenomenological analysis. Three major themes were identified—The experience of childhood adversity: articulating challenges related to childhood trauma, and the subsequent impacts on participants' health, behaviours, relationships and sense of control; Pursuing safety: exploring action participants took to keep themselves and others safe, with this requirement extending into adulthood and influencing Emergency Department presentations; and Seeking humanising healthcare: identifying challenges participants experienced while seeking care in the Emergency Department. Participants perceived their mental health to be profoundly affected by their past experiences of trauma, leaving them feeling vulnerable at times and more likely to experience re‐traumatisation in the Emergency Department. Feelings of stigmatisation during Emergency Department encounters led participants to employ self‐protection strategies creating further barriers to recovery. Participants described Emergency Departments as often failing to comprehensively address their healthcare needs. They offered suggestions for more effective care interventions. Findings highlight the need for further research to inform policy and practice when designing and implementing interventions for these adults. Adorno's argument in this recently translated essay is that sociology is necessary in order to unlock the 'epistemological power' of the concept of ideology. This paper reads Adorno's argument with an Althusserian guilt in order to isolate the theoretically anti-humanist character of this epistemological power. The paper demonstrates how sociology, for Adorno, unlocks this epistemological power by shifting the field of inquiry away from the psychology of the individual subject, towards the "objectively prescribed contexts of delusion" located at the meeting point of specific material social relations. In order to make sense of Adorno's theoretical work here, the paper employs the concept of 'anthropology' as developed by Étienne Balibar, in order to demonstrate how Adorno mobilises the concept of ideology in order to think about subjective interpellation in an anti-humanist way, breaking with the vulgar psychology of traditional theories of ideology. Given the limited information on physicians' practices at the time of pronouncing a patient's death, this study aimed to learn about the prevalence and purpose of internal medicine residents' practices, the obstacles to performing them and how they can be overcome. Responses to a questionnaire were analyzed using logistic regression, to compare respondents who did and did not have a ritual. Twenty-one interview transcripts were thematically analyzed. A total of 151 physicians responded to the questionnaire; 35 (22.3%) reported performing a private ritual at the time of patient death. Religious participants were 2.97 times more likely {CI: 1.18–7.41} to perform a ritual following a patient's death. Three main themes were found, indicating residents' need to pause and perform a practice to honor the patient, express their humanity, and cope with the overflow of emotions. The present study explored the role race-related barriers and practical barriers to treatment participation play in treatment effectiveness and satisfaction among Black families with autistic youth using a mixed-method approach. In a sample of Black caregivers with autistic youth (N = 101), multiple regressions were conducted to examine the impact of reported racial and practical barriers on parental stress, treatment effectiveness, and treatment satisfaction. Caregivers provided further narratives on their experience navigating diagnostic and treatment services in qualitative interviews. The study demonstrated that Black caregivers of autistic youth are still encountering several racial and logistical barriers when seeking treatment and diagnostic services for their children. These barriers negatively impact caregiver stress and caregiver perceived treatment quality. Contrary to the barriers and stress experienced by Black caregivers, caregivers are generally satisfied with the treatments they are utilizing and find them helpful. The narratives told by caregivers further elucidate the tumultuous experiences of Black caregivers as they seek diagnostic and treatment services for their children. An experience that may be worsened by family, professional, and systemic barriers, and can be improved by advocacy, acceptance, peer and community support, and increased knowledge. In the aftermath of traumatic events, individuals and groups seek to make sense of these experiences. 'Never again' is often considered the primary lesson of genocide. Yet, people may understand this lesson in different ways, and other lessons may also be relevant. The present paper reports a qualitative content analysis of publicly available testimonies from survivors of the Holocaust, the Rwandan Genocide and the Nanjing Massacre (N = 200), examining the lessons of genocide that these survivors shared publicly. We identified six broad categories of lessons that were represented across contexts and extended the lessons commonly considered: Lessons on the individual and interpersonal level, on the ingroup level, the (inclusive) intergroup level, the universal level, and concerning both collective memories and the future. These lessons go beyond 'never again' and show different individual and societal obligations and insights that survivors sharing their testimony deem most important to learn from their experience of genocide.
