Rewritable paper has recently become prevalent in both academic research and marketplace due to the potential environmental advantages, including forest conservation, pollution reduction, energy saving and resource sustainability. However, its real-life applications are limited by a lack of effective strategy to realize multicolour and water-jet printing on rewritable paper with long legible image-lasting times. Herein, we report an effective strategy to construct rewritable paper based on colour or luminescence switching induced by dynamic metal-ligand coordination. This type of rewritable paper can be conveniently utilized for multicolour water-jet printing by using aqueous solutions containing different metal salts as ink. In addition, the printed images on the water-jet rewritable paper can be retained for a long time (> 6 months), which shows great progress compared to previous work. In this paper, a multi-layer piezoelectric structure (MPS) is designed as a sensor with multi-channel and high-output properties. It is bonded onto the surface of a cantilever, and then the FEM modeling and simulations are developed. The mathematical formulation of the model is based on the shear deformation beam theory because of the large thickness of MPS. Furthermore, the FEM model is obtained based on the Hamilton's principle and the finite element method. The effects of some key parameters such as the number of piezoelectric layers, the thickness of per piezoelectric patch and that of per adhesive layer are analyzed on the sensing property of the MPS. Finally, a contrast experiment is also finished. The results have shown that this novel piezoelectric structure has a clear sensing advantage. With the emergence of phosphorescent heavy-metal complexes as a class of attractive probes for bioimaging, there is a parallel need to develop new phosphorescent probes with complete solubility in pure water for phosphorescent staining in living cells. Herein, a convenient and general design strategy for realizing phosphorescent heavy-metal complexes with complete water-solubility is provided and a series of cationic iridium(iii) complexes [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+PF6−(C^N = 2-(2,4-difluorophenyl)pyridine (dfppy), 2-(4-(tert-butyl)phenyl)pyridine(t-buppy), 2-(thiophen-2-yl)quinoline) (thq), 4-(pyridin-2-yl)benzaldehyde (pba)) are prepared. The water-solubility of the complexes was successfully realized through the quaternization of the tertiary amino group in the N^N ligand. By changing the C^N ligands, the luminescent emission colors of these complexes can be tuned from green to red. These cationic iridium(iii) complexes are membrane-permeable and can be applied as phosphorescent dyes for cell imaging in phosphate buffer solution (PBS). Complexes Ir1–Ir3displayed specific staining of the cytoplasm and complex Ir4containing two aldehyde groups could detect the changes of cysteine/homocysteine concentration in living cells. These results demonstrated that our design strategy offers an effective way to develop excellent phosphorescent cellular probes for real applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
