A metal–insulator–metal (MIM) waveguide-coupled trapezoid cavity is presented, and the transmission properties are investigated by finite-element method. Results show that an asymmetric Fano profile emerged in the transmission spectrum, which was caused by the asymmetrical break of the MIM waveguide-coupled trapezoid cavity system. A refractive index sensitivity, Q-factor and FOM of approximately 750nm/RIU, 68.3 and 65.2 were measured based on the Fano resonance. The effect of the structural parameters on the transmission properties is also investigated. The results provide a new possibility for designing high-performance plasmonic devices. We report ∼2.8 μm emission of Er3+-doped Lu3Ga5O12 crystal, as well as its laser performance. The continuous-wave (CW) and passively Q-switched lasers were both obtained for the first time at room temperature under 967 nm laser diode end pumping. A 384 mW of CW output power was obtained under the absorbed pump power of 3.28 W, corresponding to an optical-to-optical efficiency of 11.7%; the slope efficiency was 14.1%. A passively Q-switched laser with a maximum average output power of 274 mW was also achieved by utilizing a Bi2Te3/graphene heterostructure saturable absorber (SA). The laser operation of a new neodymium-doped pentaborate crystal, Nd:LaMgB5O10, lasing at 1052 nm wavelength was demonstrated. With 14.76 W absorbed power of diode-pumping near 808 nm, more than 5.37 W of output power was achieved with a slope efficiency of 41.4%. In the passively Q-switched operation with a Cr4+:YAG crystal, an average output power of 1.98 W with a pulse repetition frequency of 54.8 kHz and a pulse width of 28.5 ns was achieved. The spectroscopic and lasing performance of Nd: LaMgB5O10 indicate that this medium has great potential for application as injection seeding light sources for Nd:glass lasers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
