This study aimed to utilize the nonnegative matrix factorization (NNMF) algorithm for muscle synergy analysis, extracting synergy structures and muscle weightings and mining biomarkers reflecting changes in muscle fatigue from these synergy structures. A leg press exercise to induce fatigue was performed by 11 participants. Surface electromyography (sEMG) data from seven muscles, electrocardiography (ECG) data, Borg CR-10 scale scores, and the z-axis acceleration of the weight block were simultaneously collected. Three indices were derived from the synergy structures: activation phase difference, coactivation area, and coactivation time. The indicators were further validated for single-leg landing. Differences in heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) were observed across different fatigue levels, with varying degrees of disparity. The median frequency (MDF) exhibited a consistent decline in the primary working muscle groups. Significant differences were noted in activation phase difference, coactivation area, and coactivation time before and after fatigue onset. Moreover, a significant correlation was found between the activation phase difference and the coactivation area with fatigue intensity. The further application of single-leg landing demonstrated the effectiveness of the coactivation area. In this study, the panel data of 34 industrial sectors are selected from 2004 to 2019 in China and empirically tested the carbon emission reduction effect and its transmission path during the coordinated development of two-way FDI. The results show that the coordinated development of two-way FDI in China's industrial sector had a significant but heterogeneous carbon emission reduction effect. The coordinated development of two-way FDI in high-yield scale groups, low-energy-consumption industries and high-tech industries had a stronger inhibitory effect on carbon emissions. When the coordinated development level of two-way FDI in China's industrial sector was high, its carbon emission reduction effect was more significant. After the Belt and Road Initiative was put forward in 2013, the carbon emission reduction effect of the coordinated development of two-way FDI in China's industrial industry was stronger. The mechanism test results showed that the coordinated development of two-way FDI in China's industrial sector mainly affected domestic carbon emissions through three transmission paths: scale, structure, and technology effects. The aim of this study is to solve the problem of the difficulty of accurate detection of CN- and SCN- due to the interference of multiple ions in the wastewater produced by coke oven gas desulfurization. To this end, based on the basic principles of analytical chemistry and elimination of inter? ionic interferences, this paper proposed a conventional inorganic chemical analytical method for the detection of CN-, SCN- in the alkaline wastewater generated from coking gas desulfurization by vacuum potassium carbonate method, including pretreatment method and instrumental detection step. Among them, the elimination of SCN-, S2-, SO32- and S2O32- from the interference of silver nitrate volumetric method on CN- was realized by the pretreatment method of the first acidification and distillation, and the second precipitation with distillation, and then the concentration of CN- was determined by silver nitrate volumetric method. The elimination of the interference of CN-, S2- and phenol on SCN- detection by precipitation, extraction and coordinated pretreatment methods was realized, on the basis of which SCN- was then determined spectrophotometrically by ferric thiocyanate. More explicit detection steps and discussion of influencing factors were also given. The method can be used for the detection of CN- and SCN- in complex environmental samples, which will provide better technical support for the control of coke oven barren gas desulfurization process and wastewater treatment. Lung cancer has emerged as a major global public health concern. With growing public interest in lung cancer, online searches for related information have surged. However, a comprehensive evaluation of the credibility, quality, and value of lung cancer-related videos on digital media platforms remains unexamined. This study aimed to assess the informational quality and content of lung cancer-related videos on Douyin and Bilibili. A total of 200 lung cancer-related videos that met the criteria were selected from Douyin and Bilibili for evaluation and analysis. The first step involved recording and analyzing the basic information provided in the videos. Subsequently, the source and type of content for each video were identified. All videos' educational content and quality were then evaluated using JAMA, GQS, and Modified DISCERN. Douyin videos were found to be more popular in terms of likes, comments, favorites, and shares, whereas Bilibili videos were longer in duration (P <.001). The majority of video content on both platforms comprised lung cancer introductions (31/100, 31%), with medical professionals being the primary source of uploaded videos (Douyin, n = 55, 55%; Bilibili, n = 43, 43%). General users on Douyin scored the lowest on the JAMA scale, whereas for-profit businesses scored the highest (2.50 points). The results indicated that the videos' informational quality was insufficient. Videos from science communications and health professionals were deemed more reliable regarding completeness and content quality compared to videos from other sources. The pulp industry, one of the oldest and largest chemical industries globally, plays a critical role in biomass utilization. Increasing kraft pulp yield has long perplexed researchers and engineers. Given that methyl mercaptan (MeSH) can be self-produced during the kraft pulping process, revisiting MeSH-assisted yield enhancement technology offers great attraction for pulp industry. MeSH's strong nucleophilicity enables its consumption through both demethylation and non-demethylation reactions. Investigating the MeSH's evolution at typical pulping conditions is crucial for achieving higher recovery rate of MeSH. This study found that higher pulping temperatures, increased alkali charge, and larger Na2S ratios improve the recyclable residual MeSH content in black liquors, increasing it from 17 to 36%. Under moderate pulping conditions, the residual MeSH content was approximately 30% of the original MeSH. Dimethyl sulfide (DMS), a valuable demethylation product of lignin or hemicellulose by MeSH, was found in black liquors at levels up to 15% of the original MeSH. Approximately half of MeSH participated in non-demethylation reactions and could not be recycled. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of separated kraft lignins suggested the generation pathway and chemical structure of new methylsulfur (MeS)-containing lignin. For economic balance and profitability, DMS recycling is proposed as cost compensation, or by adopting partial MeSH-assisted kraft pulping in batch digesting systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In view of the flue gas characteristics of cement kilns in China, the development of low-temperature denitrification catalysts with excellent anti-poisoning performance has important theoretical and practical significance. In this work, a series of MnCeOx@TiO2 and tourmaline-containing MnCeOx@TiO2-T catalysts was prepared using a chemical pre-deposition method. It was found that the MnCeOx@TiO2-T2 catalyst (containing 2% tourmaline) exhibited the best low-temperature NH3-selective catalytic reduction (NH3-SCR) performance, yielding 100% NOx conversion at 110 °C and above. When 100–300 ppm SO2 and 10 vol.% H2O were introduced to the reaction, the NOx conversion of the MnCeOx@TiO2-T2 catalyst was still higher than 90% at 170 °C, indicating good anti-poisoning performance. The addition of appropriate amounts of tourmaline can not only preferably expose the active {001} facets of TiO2 but also introduce the acidic SiO2 and Al2O3 components and increase the content of Mn4+ and Oα on the surface of the catalyst, all of which contribute to the enhancement of reaction activity of NH3-SCR and anti-poisoning performance. However, excess amounts of tourmaline led to the formation of dense surface of catalysts that suppressed the exposure of catalytic active sites, giving rise to the decrease in catalytic activity and anti-poisoning capability. Through an in situ DRIFTS study, it was found that the addition of appropriate amounts of tourmaline increased the number of Brønsted acid sites on the catalyst surface, which suppressed the adsorption of SO2 and thus inhibited the deposition of NH4HSO4 and (NH4)2HSO4 on the surface of the catalyst, thereby improving the NH3-SCR performance and anti-poisoning ability of the catalyst. Interoception, the sense of the physiological condition of our body, is impaired in individuals with autism spectrum disorders. Evidence suggests that subclinical autistic traits are mild manifestations of autistic symptoms, present in the general population. We examined the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) associating with interoception and autistic traits in 62 healthy young adults. Autistic traits correlated negatively with the rsFC between the lateral ventral anterior insula and anterior cingulate cortex. Interoceptive accuracy and sensibility correlated positively with the rsFC between interoceptive brain networks and the cerebellum, supplementary motor area, and visual regions. The results suggest that a negative relationship between interoception and autistic traits is largely accounted for by both self-report measures and decreased rsFC amongst the interoceptive brain network. Mechanical recycling and chemical upcycling by thermochemical reactions have been the major approaches for recycling end-of-life plastics. Herein, we report an electrified approach to upcycle waste plastics into carbon-negative commodity chemicals using greenhouse gas CO2 as the oxidant and additional carbon source. In this non-equilibrium plasma process, waste polyolefins were oxidatively depolymerized by plasma-activated CO2 to produce oleochemicals and hydrocarbon chemicals in a single-step process at high reaction rates. In addition, a mixture of CO2 and a small amount of O2 was employed as plasma gases to selectively produce fatty alcohols from polyolefins. Based on this atmospheric pressure, non-solvent, and non-catalyst process, up to 97.6% of fatty alcohols could be produced within minutes. In this article, the co-conversion approach was demonstrated using common polyolefins and real-world mixed waste plastics to obtain comparable results. The techno-economic analysis estimates the internal rate of return to be 42.2% and 43.5% for the plasma-based conversion of waste plastics, depending on the plasma gas composition. The surge in image data has significantly increased the pressure on storage and transmission, posing new challenges for image compression technology. The structural texture of an image implies its statistical characteristics, which is effective for image encoding and decoding. Consequently, content-adaptive compression methods based on learning can better capture the content attributes of images, thereby enhancing encoding performance. However, learned image compression methods do not comprehensively account for both the global and local correlations among the pixels within an image. Moreover, they are constrained by rate-distortion optimization, which prevents the attainment of a compact representation of image attributes. To address these issues, we propose a syntax-guided content-adaptive transform framework that efficiently captures image attributes and enhances encoding efficiency. Firstly, we propose a syntax-refined side information module that fully leverages syntax and side information to guide the adaptive transformation of image attributes. Moreover, to more thoroughly exploit the global and local correlations in image space, we designed global–local modules, local–global modules, and upsampling/downsampling modules in codecs, further eliminating local and global redundancies. The experimental findings indicate that our proposed syntax-guided content-adaptive image compression model successfully adapts to the diverse complexities of different images, which enhances the efficiency of image compression. Background: Although rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic tissue disease often accompanied by osteoporosis (OP), the molecular mechanisms underlying this association remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the pathogenesis of RA and OP by identifying differentially expressed mRNAs (DEmRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) using a bioinformatics approach. Methods: Expression profiles of individuals diagnosed with OP and RA were retrieved from the Gene Expression Omnibus database. Differential expression analysis was conducted. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were performed to gain insights into the functional categories and molecular/biochemical pathways associated with DEmRNAs. We identified the intersection of common DEmRNAs and lncRNAs and constructed a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. Correlation analysis between the common DEmRNAs and lncRNAs facilitated the construction of a coding-non-coding network. Lastly, serum peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from patients with RA and OP, as well as healthy controls, were obtained for TRAP staining and qRT-PCR to validate the findings obtained from the online dataset assessments. Results: A total of 28 DEmRNAs and 2 DElncRNAs were identified in individuals with both RA and OP. Chromosomal distribution analysis of the consensus DEmRNAs revealed that chromosome 1 had the highest number of differential expression genes. GO and KEGG analyses indicated that these DEmRNAs were primarily associated with " platelets (PLTs) degranulation", "platelet alpha granules", "platelet activation", "tight junctions" and "leukocyte transendothelial migration", with many genes functionally related to PLTs. In the PPI network, MT-ATP6 and PTGS1 emerged as potential hub genes, with MT-ATP6 originating from mitochondrial DNA. Co-expression analysis identified two key lncRNA-mRNA pairs: RP11 − 815J21.2 with MT − ATP6 and RP11 − 815J21.2 with PTGS1. Experimental validation confirmed significant differential expression of RP11-815J21.2, MT-ATP6 and PTGS1 between the healthy controls and the RA + OP groups. Notably, knockdown of RP11-815J21.2 attenuated TNF + IL-6-induced osteoclastogenesis. Conclusions: This study successfully identified shared dysregulated genes and potential therapeutic targets in individuals with RA and OP, highlighting their molecular similarities. Fine roots and absorptive roots play key roles in acquiring resources throughout soil profiles and determining plant functions along environmental gradients. Yet, the geographical pattern of carbon allocation in fine roots, particularly in absorptive roots, and their relations with plant sizes and evironment are less understood. We sampled 243 xerophytic shrubs from 63 species distributed along the latitudinal gradient (23°N to 32°N) in dry valleys of southwest China and synthetically measured biomass fractions of plant organs, especially fine roots and absorptive roots (1st to 3rd root order). We identified latitudinal patterns of biomass allocation fractions of organs and their relationships with plant sizes and environmental factors. The latitudinal patterns of both absorptive root and fine‐root fractions followed weak unimodal distributions; stem biomass fraction increased with the latitude, while the leaf biomass fraction decreased. The fraction of fine‐root biomass had negative relationships with plant height and root depth. The fractions of root, fine root, and absorptive root biomass were largely explained by soil moisture. Furthermore, fraction of fine‐root biomass increased in a relatively humid environment. Overall, soil moisture was the most important factor in driving latitudinal patterns of biomass fraction. Background: Group A streptococcal(GAS) meningitis is a severe disease with a high case fatality rate. In the era of increasing GAS meningitis, our understanding about this disease is limited. Purpose: To gain a better understanding about GAS meningitis. Methods: Five new cases with GAS meningitis were reported. GAS meningitis related literatures were searched for systematic review in PUBMED and EMBASE. Case reports and case series on paediatric cases were included. Information on demographics, risk factors, symptoms, treatments, outcomes, and emm types of GAS was summarized. Results: Totally 263 cases were included. Among 100 individuals, 9.9% (8/81) had prior varicella, 11.1% (9/81) had anatomical factors, and 53.2% (42/79) had extracranial infections. Soft tissue infections were common among infants (10/29, 34.5%), while ear/sinus infections were more prevalent in children ≥ 3 years (21/42, 50.0%). The overall case fatality rate (CFR) was 16.2% (12/74). High risk of death was found in patients with shock or systemic complications, young children(< 3 years) and cases related to hematogenic spread. The predominate cause of death was shock(6/8). Among the 163 patients included in case series studies, ear/sinus infections ranged from 21.4 to 62.5%, while STSS/shock ranged from 12.5 to 35.7%, and the CFR ranged from 5.9 to 42.9%. Conclusions: A history of varicella, soft tissue infections, parameningeal infections and CSF leaks are important clinical clues to GAS in children with meningitis. Young children and hematogenic spread related cases need to be closely monitored for shock due to the high risk of death. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Substance use disorder (SUD) is characterized by alcohol and drug use, dependence features and adverse psychosocial consequences. SUD represents an interplay between substance use, personality, impulsivity and psychopathology. Network analysis is a powerful method to examine the direct and indirect relationship between various variables, and could understand SUD as a self-sustaining system. We examined the network structure of addictive behaviour, personality, impulsivity and psychopathology in treatment-seeking people with SUD. This cross-sectional network analysis utilized a convenience sample of 391 treatment-seeking patients with SUD in a specialized addiction psychiatric clinic. We measured drug and alcohol use, dependence features and psychopathology using clinician-rated scales. Personality and impulsivity were measured using self-report instruments. LASSO network, centrality indices and network stability were estimated. We also estimated the relative importance of the network nodes in determining levels of drug and alcohol use and dependence severity. The domain-level LASSO network of additive behaviour, psychopathological variables, traits of the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and impulsivity formed a highly connected network. BFI-neuroticism lied at the centre of the network with the highest closeness index. Depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms and 'general' symptoms in the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale showed highest expected influence and predictability. The mean predictability of the network suggested a self-sustaining system. The three psychopathological nodes significantly determined the variance of drug use and dependence severity. The network structure of SUD is influenced by anxiety and depressive symptoms. Clinicians should detect and intervene these symptoms to break the self-sustaining system of SUD. Previous studies have confirmed that acupuncture for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) provided an additional benefit over usual care alone. Therefore, we performed a multicenter, randomized, sham-controlled trial to assess the efficacy and safety of acupuncture versus sham acupuncture for refractory IBS in patients in the context of conventional treatments. Patients in the acupuncture and sham acupuncture groups received real or sham acupuncture treatment in 3 sessions per week for a total of 12 sessions. The primary outcome was a change in the IBS–Symptom Severity Scale (IBS-SSS) score from baseline to week 4. A total of 521 participants were screened, and 170 patients (85 patients per group) were enrolled and included in the intention-to-treat analysis. Baseline characteristics were comparable across the two groups. From baseline to 4 weeks, the IBS-SSS total score decreased by 140.0 (95% CI: 126.0 to 153.9) in the acupuncture group and 64.4 (95% CI: 50.4 to 78.3) in the sham acupuncture group. The between-group difference was 75.6 (95% CI: 55.8 to 95.4). Acupuncture efficacy was maintained during the 4-week follow-up period. There were no serious adverse events. In conclusion, acupuncture provided benefits when combined with treatment as usual, providing more options for the treatment of refractory IBS. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spiral ganglia neurons (SGNs) impairment can cause deafness. One important therapeutic approach involves utilizing stem cells to restore impaired auditory circuitry. Nevertheless, the inadequate implementation of research methodologies poses a challenge in accurately assessing the functionality of derived cells within the circuit. Here, we describe a novel method for converting human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) into otic neurons (ONs) and assess their functional connectivity using an optogenetic approach with cells or an organotypic slice of rat cochlear nucleus (CN) in coculture. Embryonic stem cell-derived otic neurons (eONs) exhibited SGN marker expression and generated functional synaptic connection when cocultured with cochlear nucleus neurons (CNNs). Synapsin 1 and VGLUT expression are found in the cochlear nucleus of brain slices, where eONs projected processes during the coculture of eONs and CN brain slices. Action potential spikes and INa+/IK+ of CNNs increased in tandem with light stimulations to eONs. These findings provide further evidence that eONs may be a candidate source to treat SGN-deafness. Background: Data on pyogenic liver abscess (PLA) of children in China have been limited. We aimed to summarize the clinical feather, microbiological characteristics, management, and outcome of PLA in children. Method: We retrospectively reviewed PLA cases from January 2008 to June 2023 at Beijing Children's Hospital. Clinical characteristics, pathogens and management were analyzed. Results: We diagnosed 57 PLA patients in our center. The median onset age was 4.5 years and the male-to-female ratio was 1.6:1. The median diagnostic time was nine days and the median length of stay was 22 days. Twenty-eight patients (49.1%) had predisposing factors, around 71.4% of the patients had malignant hematology and primary immunodeficiency disease. Patients with underlying factors were more likely to have extrahepatic organ involvement (p = 0.024), anemia (p < 0.001), single abscess (p = 0.042), unilateral involvement (p = 0.039), and small size of the abscess (p = 0.008). Twenty-four patients (42.1%) had extrahepatic organ involvement. Pathogens were identified in 17 patients (29.8%), the most common pathogens were Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus. The positive rate of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) was 87.5% (7/8). On multivariable analysis, the extrahepatic organ involved (p = 0.029) and hepatomegaly (p = 0.025) were two independent factors associated with poor outcomes. Conclusions: PLA is usually seen in children with predisposing factors. Malignant hematology and primary immunodeficiency disease were the most common underlying diseases. Extrahepatic organ involvement and hepatomegaly are associated with poor prognosis. Increased use of mNGS could be beneficial for identifying pathogens. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The immune system appears to play a crucial role in how breast cancer responds to chemotherapy. In this study, we investigated a peripheral marker of immune and inflammation named the neutrophil to albumin ratio (NAR) to explore its potential relationship with pathological complete response (pCR) in locally advanced breast cancer patients who underwent neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 212 consecutive breast cancer patients who received NAC. The NAR was calculated by examining the complete blood cell count and albumin level in peripheral blood before starting NAC. Through ROC curve analysis, we determined the optimal cutoff value for NAR as 0.0877. We used Pearson's chi-square test or Fisher's exact test to evaluate the relationship between NAR and pCR, as well as other clinical and pathological characteristics. Logistic regression models were employed for univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: The results of both univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that NAR was associated with tumor pathological regression. The NAR high group had a higher pCR rate compared to the NAR low group (OR 3.127 [95% CI 1.545– 6.328]; p = 0.002). Conclusion: According to this study, it was observed that patients with breast cancer who had high levels of NAR were more likely to achieve pCR when undergoing NAC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Green technology innovation (GTI) and environmental regulation (ER) hold the key to promoting the transformation of industrial structure. Based on the regional panel data of China, this is the first study to explore the impact of GTI on the optimization of industrial structure (OIS) and rationalization of industrial structure (RIS) under various ERs. The results suggest that the influence of GTI on OIS and RIS features both heterogeneous environmental regulation effects and regional heterogeneity. Furthermore, command-controlled environmental regulation (CER) has a significant inhibitory effect on OIS. The threshold effects of ERs on OIS and RIS turn out to be significantly different when the panel threshold models are introduced, which also shows heterogeneity. Specifically, there are double and single threshold effects of MER and public participation environmental regulation (PER) on OIS, respectively. In comparison, there are single and double threshold effects of GTI on RIS under CER and PER, respectively. The results indicate that OIS and RIS are significantly correlated with GTI and the type and intensity of ERs. ZnSeTe quantum dots (QDs) attract growing interest owing to their low threats to health and the environment. They are widely applied as emitters in displays and lighting devices. Previous findings have indicated that inorganic halides are excellent candidates for surface ligands on QDs. By incorporating inorganic halides during the synthesis process, the photoluminescence (PL) intensity and quantum yield (QY) of QDs can be significantly enhanced. However, the alteration of surface states in QDs induced by zinc halide modification and the mechanism of formation of trap-state radiative recombination processes have been less discussed. Herein, we proposed a synthesis strategy for ZnSeTe/ZnSe/ZnSeS/ZnS core/shell/shell/shell QDs modified with ZnCl2, and by comparing the morphology and elemental composition of QDs with different amounts of ZnCl2 added, we revealed the regulatory mechanism of nanocrystal growth in the presence of ZnCl2. QDs with modification of ZnCl2 exhibited broad yellow fluorescence, distinct from the intrinsic blue emission. Through spectroscopic and surface ligand analyses, we attributed this yellow emission to the intermediate state energy levels caused by the defects on the surface. Finally, we used the QDs with broad linewidth emission to fabricate a simple white-light-emitting diode (WLED). Background: Mild cognitive impairment has received widespread attention as a high-risk population for Alzheimer's disease, and many studies have developed or validated predictive models to assess it. However, the performance of the model development remains unknown. Objective: The objective of this review was to provide an overview of prediction models for the risk of Alzheimer's disease dementia in older adults with mild cognitive impairment. Method: PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and MEDLINE were systematically searched up to October 19, 2023. We included cohort studies in which risk prediction models for Alzheimer's disease dementia in older adults with mild cognitive impairment were developed or validated. The Predictive Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST) was employed to assess model bias and applicability. Random-effects models combined model AUCs and calculated (approximate) 95% prediction intervals for estimations. Heterogeneity across studies was evaluated using the I2 statistic, and subgroup analyses were conducted to investigate sources of heterogeneity. Additionally, funnel plot analysis was utilized to identify publication bias. Results: The analysis included 16 studies involving 9290 participants. Frequency analysis of predictors showed that 14 appeared at least twice and more, with age, functional activities questionnaire, and Mini-mental State Examination scores of cognitive functioning being the most common predictors. From the studies, only two models were externally validated. Eleven studies ultimately used machine learning, and four used traditional modelling methods. However, we found that in many of the studies, there were problems with insufficient sample sizes, missing important methodological information, lack of model presentation, and all of the models were rated as having a high or unclear risk of bias. The average AUC of the 15 best-developed predictive models was 0.87 (95% CI: 0.83, 0.90). Discussion: Most published predictive modelling studies are deficient in rigour, resulting in a high risk of bias. Upcoming research should concentrate on enhancing methodological rigour and conducting external validation of models predicting Alzheimer's disease dementia. We also emphasize the importance of following the scientific method and transparent reporting to improve the accuracy, generalizability and reproducibility of study results. Microfluidic technology, as a continuous and mass preparation method of nanoparticles, has attracted much attention in recent years. In this study, zein nanoparticles (ZNPs) were continuously fabricated in a highly controlled manner by combining a microfluidics platform with the antisolvent method. The impact of ethanol content (60~95%, v/v) and flow rates of inner and outer phases in the microfluidics platform on particle properties were examined. Among all ZNPS, 90%-ZNPs have the highest solubility (32.83%) and the lowest hydrophobicity (90.43), which is the reverse point of the hydrophobicity of ZNPs. Moreover, when the inner phase flow rate was 1.5 mL/h, the particle size decreased significantly from 182.81 nm to 133.13 nm as the outer phase flow rate increased from 10 mL/h to 50 mL/h. The results revealed that ethanol content had significant impacts on hydrophilic–hydrophobic properties of ZNPs. The flow rates of ethanol–water solutions and deionized water (solvent and antisolvent) in the microfluidics platform significantly affected the particle size of ZNPs. These findings demonstrated that the combined application of a microfluidics platform and an antisolvent method could be an effective pathway for precisely controlling the fabrication process of protein nanoparticles and modulating their physicochemical properties. Zearalenone (ZEA) is a non-steroidal estrogenic mycotoxin that exerts its toxic effects through various damage mechanisms such as oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), mitochondrial damage, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. At present, there are few studies on drugs that can rescue ZEA-induced chicken embryonic fibroblasts damage. Forsythoside A (FA) is one of effective ingredients of traditional Chinese medicine that plays a role in various biological functions, but its antitoxin research has not been investigated so far. In this study, in vitro experiments were carried out. Chicken embryo fibroblast (DF-1) cells was used as the research object to select the appropriate treatment concentration of ZEA and examined reactive oxygen species (ROS), mitochondrial membrane potential, ERS and apoptosis to investigate the effects and mechanisms of FA in alleviating ZEA-induced cytotoxicity in DF-1 cells. Our results showed that ZEA induced ERS and activated the unfolded protein response (UPR) leading to apoptosis, an apoptotic pathway characterized by overproduction of Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), Caspase-3, and ROS and loss of mitochondrial membrane potential. We also demonstrated that FA help to prevent ERS and attenuated ZEA-induced apoptosis in DF-1 cells by reducing the level of ROS, downregulating GRP78, PERK, ATF4, ATF6, JNK, IRE1, ASK1, CHOP, BAX expression, and up-regulating Bcl-2 expression. Our results provide a basis for an in-depth study of the mechanism of toxic effects of ZEA on chicken cells and the means of detoxification, which has implications for the treatment of relevant avian diseases. Objective: Metabolic reprogramming serves as a distinctive feature of cancer, impacting proliferation and metastasis, with aberrant glycosphingolipid expression playing a crucial role in malignancy. Nevertheless, limited research has investigated the connection between glycosphingolipid metabolism and pancreatic cancer. Methods: This study utilized a single-cell sequencing dataset to analyze the cell composition in pancreatic cancer tissues and quantified single-cell metabolism using a newly developed computational pipeline called scMetabolism. A gene signature developed from the differential expressed genes (DEGs), related to epithelial cell glycosphingolipid metabolism, was established to forecast patient survival, immune response, mutation status, and reaction to chemotherapy with pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD). Results: The single-cell sequencing analysis revealed a significant increase in epithelial cell proportions in PAAD, with high glycosphingolipid metabolism occurring in the cancerous tissue. A six-gene signature prognostic model based on abnormal epithelial glycosphingolipid metabolism was created and confirmed using publicly available databases. Patients with PAAD were divided into high- and low-risk categories according to the median risk score, with those in the high-risk group demonstrating a more unfavorable survival outcome in all three cohorts, with higher rates of gene mutations (e.g., KRAS, CDKN2A), increased levels of immunosuppressive cells (macrophages, Th2 cells, regulatory T cells), and heightened sensitivity to Acetalax and Selumetinlb. Conclusions: Abnormal metabolism of glycosphingolipids in epithelial cells may promote the development of PAAD. A model utilizing a gene signature associated with epithelial glycosphingolipids metabolism has been established, serving as a valuable indicator for the prognostic stratification of patients with PAAD. Reward motivation in individuals with high levels of negative schizotypal traits (NS) has been found to be lower than that in their counterparts. But it is unclear that whether their reward motivation adaptively changes with external effort-reward ratio, and what resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) is associated with this change. Thirty-five individuals with high levels of NS and 44 individuals with low levels of NS were recruited. A 3T resting-state functional brain scan and a novel reward motivation adaptation behavioural task were administrated in all participants. The behavioural task was manipulated with three conditions (effort > reward condition vs. effort < reward condition vs. effort = reward condition). Under each condition were rated 'wanting' and 'liking' for rewards. The seed-based voxel-wise rsFC analysis was conducted to explore the rsFCs associated with the 'wanting' and 'liking' ratings in individuals with high levels of NS. 'Wanting' and 'liking' ratings of individuals with high levels of NS significantly declined in the effort > reward condition but did not rebound as high as their counterparts in the effort < reward condition. The rsFCs in NS group associated with these ratings were altered. The altered rsFCs in NS group involved regions in the prefrontal lobe, dopaminergic brain regions (ventral tegmental area, substantia nigra), hippocampus, thalamus and cerebellum. Individuals with high levels of NS manifested their reward motivation adaptation impairment as a failure of adjustment adaptively during effort-reward imbalance condition and altered rsFCs in prefrontal, dopaminergic and other brain regions. Theory of mind (ToM) and empathy are considered key components of social cognition that are often impaired in individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). However, it remains unclear whether individuals with high levels of autistic traits exhibit similar impairments in these two functions. This study examined the affective and cognitive domains of ToM and empathy in individuals with high levels of autistic traits. We recruited 84 participants with high levels and 78 participants with low levels of autistic traits to complete a set of self‐reported checklists and performance‐based tasks capturing affective and cognitive components of ToM and empathy. The results showed that participants with high levels of autistic traits exhibited significant impairments in cognitive but not in affective ToM and empathy compared with their counterparts with low levels of autistic traits. Molecular ferroelectrics are attracting great interest due to their light weight, mechanical flexibility, low cost, ease of processing and environmental friendliness. These advantages make molecular ferroelectrics viable alternatives or supplements to inorganic ceramics and polymer ferroelectrics. It is expected that molecular ferroelectrics with good performance can be fabricated, which in turns calls for effective chemical design strategies in crystal engineering. To achieve so, we propose a hydrogen bond modification method by introducing the hydroxyl group, and successfully boost the phase transition temperature (Tc) by at least 336 K. As a result, the molecular ferroelectric 1-hydroxy-3-adamantanammonium tetrafluoroborate [(HaaOH)BF4] can maintain ferroelectricity until 528 K, a Tc value much larger than that of BTO (390 K). Meanwhile, micro-domain patterns, in stable state for 2 years, can be directly written on the film of (HaaOH)BF4. In this respect, hydrogen bond modification is a feasible and effective strategy for designing molecular ferroelectrics with high Tc and stable ferroelectric domains. The effective capture and recovery of radioiodine species associated with nuclear fuel reprocessing is of significant importance in nuclear power plants. Porous materials have been proven to be one of the most effective adsorbents for the capture of radioiodine. In this work, we design and synthesize a series of conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs), namely, TPDA–TFPB CMP, TPDA–TATBA CMP, and TPDA–TECHO CMP, which are constructed based on a planar rectangular 4-connected organic monomer and three triangular 3-connected organic monomers, respectively. The resultant CMPs are characterized using various characterization techniques and used as effective adsorbents for iodine capture. Our experiments indicated that the CMPs exhibit excellent iodine adsorption capacities as high as 6.48, 6.25, and 6.37 g g−1 at 348 K and ambient pressure. The adsorption mechanism was further investigated and the strong chemical adsorption between the iodine and the imine/tertiary ammonia of the CMPs, 3D network structure with accessible hierarchical pores, uniform micromorphology, wide π-conjugated structure, and high-density Lewis-base sites synergistically contribute to their excellent iodine adsorption performance. Background: A referenced MRI‐based classification associated with focused ultrasound ablation surgery (FUAS) outcomes is lacking in adenomyosis. Purpose: To identify an MRI‐based classification system for informing the FUAS outcomes. Study Type: Retrospective. Population: Patients with FUAS for adenomyosis, were divided into a training set (N = 643; 355 with post‐FUAS gonadotropin‐releasing hormone/levonorgestrel, 288 without post‐FUAS therapy) and an external validation set (N = 135; all without post‐FUAS therapy). Field Strength/Sequence: 1.5 T, turbo spin‐echo T2‐weighted imaging and single‐shot echo‐planar diffusion‐weighted imaging sequences. Assessment: Five MRI‐based adenomyosis classifications: classification 1 (C1) (diffuse, focal, and mild), C2 (intrinsic, extrinsic, intramural, and indeterminate), C3 (internal, adenomyomas, and external), C4 (six subtypes on areas [internal or external] and volumes [<1/3 or ≥2/3]), and C5 (internal [asymmetric or symmetric], external, intramural, full thickness [asymmetric or symmetric]) for FUAS outcomes (symptom relief and recurrence). Statistical Tests: The optimal classification was significantly associated with the most subtypes of FUAS outcomes. Relating to the timing of recurrence was measured using Cox regression analysis and median recurrence time was estimated by a Kaplan–Meier curve. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Dysmenorrhea relief and recurrence were only associated with C2 in training patients undergoing FUAS alone. Compared with other subtypes, the extrinsic subtype of C2 was significantly associated with dysmenorrhea recurrence in the FUAS group. Besides, the median dysmenorrhea recurrence time of extrinsic subtype was significantly shorter than that of other subtypes (42.0 months vs. 50.3 months). In the validation cohort, C2 was confirmed as the optimal system and its extrinsic subtype was confirmed to have a significantly shorter dysmenorrhea recurrence time than other subtypes. This paper starts from the core concept of VR technology, analyzes the value of the application of VR technology in the protection of ancient architecture, puts forward relevant suggestions and technical application methods, and takes Red Pagoda in Fuliang County as an example. In this sense, virtual reality technology is used to restore and protect the buildings, forming a digital heritage of ancient architecture. This study first utilizes a three-dimensional laser scanning instrument to collect point cloud data, and then the plane graph is drawn by measurement. In order to investigate the pollution emission of freight diesel motor vehicles in logistics parks, the article selected three logistics parks A, B and C in Dongxihu District of Wuhan City as the research object, analyzed the activity level of diesel motor vehicles based on the on-site survey and the data obtained from Wuhan Motor Vehicle Supervisory Platform, and carried out the field monitoring of NOx and PM2.5 in the entrance and exit sections of the logistics parks. The results show that the trucks entering and leaving the logistics park are mainly heavy-duty diesel vehicles, accounting for over 78.1%; the proportion of diesel motor vehicles of National + National emission standard types is more than 50%, but there are still a small number of diesel motor vehicles of National standard. The activity level of diesel motor vehicles in each logistics park has no direct correlation with the area of the logistics park, and the changes in traffic flow on weekdays and non-weekdays show different trends from the traffic volume on urban roads. The total emissions of NOx, PM2.5, PM10, CO, and HC from the three logistics parks during August were 36.958 tons, 0.529 tons, 0.586 tons, 16.588 tons, and 1.157 tons, respectively, and the monitored concentrations of NO2 and PM2.5 at the cross-sections into and out of the logistics parks in August and November were 1.24-2.41 times higher than those of the neighboring street air-quality monitoring stations, and 2.70-2.82 times higher than that of the neighboring -street air-quality monitoring stations, respectively, which shows that diesel motor vehicle exhaust emissions from the Logistics Park have a considerable impact on the quality of the air environ ment in the neighboring areas, and the type of diesel motor vehicle structure in the Logistics Park is also associated with the green transformation. Background: Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a well-established risk factor for ischaemic stroke (IS). It is unclear whether Lp(a) is associated with IS in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The aim of this study is to explore the association between the concentration of Lp(a) and the risk of IS in AF patients, hope to find the potential risk factor for the IS in AF patients. Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study. The screened AF patients between January 2017 and July 2021 were matched at 1:1 by the propensity score matching (PSM) method in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University. Associations between Lp(a) and ischaemic stroke were analysed using logistic regression models, stratified analysis and sensitivity analysis. Statistical analyses were conducted using IBM SPSS software. Results: The number of enrolled participates is 2258, which contains 1129 non-AF patients and 1129 AF patients. Among IS patients, the median Lp(a) concentration was higher than that of controls (17.03 vs. 15.36 mg/dL, P = 0.032). The Spearman rank-order correlation coefficients revealed significant positive relationships between IS and Lp(a) (P = 0.032). In addition, a significant increase in IS risk was associated with Lp(a) levels > 30.00 mg/dL in unadjusted model [OR:1.263, 95% CI(1.046– 1.523), P = 0.015], model 1 [OR:1.284, 95% CI(1.062,1.552), P = 0.010], model 2 [OR: 1.297, 95% CI(1.07,1.573). P = 0.008], and model 3 [OR: 1.290, 95% CI (1.064, 1.562). P = 0.009]. The stratified analysis indicated that this correlation was not affected by female sex [1.484 (1.117, 1.972), P = 0.006], age ≤ 60 [1.864 (1.067-3.254), P=0.029], hypertension [1.359 (1.074, 1.721), P = 0.011], or non-coronary heart disease (CHD) [1.388 (1.108, 1.738), P = 0.004]. Background: Stress is a recognized risk factor for cognitive decline, which triggers neuroinflammation involving microglial activation. However, the specific mechanism for microglial activation under stress and affects learning and memory remains unclear. Methods: The chronic stress mouse model was utilized to explore the relationship between microglial activation and spatial memory impairment. The effect of hippocampal hyperglycemia on microglial activation was evaluated through hippocampal glucose-infusion and the incubation of BV2 cells with high glucose. The gain-and loss-of-function experiments were conducted to investigate the role of GLUT1 in microglial proinflammatory activation. An adeno-associated virus (AAV) was employed to specifically knockdown of GLUT1 in hippocampal microglia to assess its impact on stressed-mice. Results: Herein, we found that chronic stress induced remarkable hippocampal microglial proinflammatory activation and neuroinflammation, which were involved in the development of stress-related spatial learning and memory impairment. Mechanistically, elevated hippocampal glucose level post-stress was revealed to be a key regulator of proinflammatory microglial activation via specifically increasing the expression of microglial GLUT1. GLUT1 overexpression promoted microglial proinflammatory phenotype while inhibiting GLUT1 function mitigated this effect under high glucose. Furthermore, specific downregulation of hippocampal microglial GLUT1 in stressed-mice relieved microglial proinflammatory activation, neuroinflammation, and spatial learning and memory injury. Finally, the NF-κB signaling pathway was demonstrated to be involved in the regulatory effect of GLUT1 on microglia. Conclusions: We demonstrate that elevated glucose and GLUT1 expression induce microglia proinflammatory activation, contributing to stress-associated spatial memory dysfunction. The design and synthesis of organic photocatalysts remain a great challenge due to their strict structural constraints. However, this could be mitigated by achieving structural flexibility by constructing permanent porosity into the materials. Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) are an emerging class of porous materials with an amorphous, three-dimensional network structure, which makes it possible to integrate the elaborate functional groups to enhance photocatalytic performance. Here, we report the synthesis of a novel CMP, named TAPFc-TFPPy-CMP, constructed by 1,1′3,3′-tetra(4-aminophenyl)ferrocene (TAPFc) and 1,3,6,8-tetrakis(4-formylphenyl)pyrene (TFPPy) monomers. The integration of the p-type dopant 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) into the TAPFc-TFPPy-CMP improved the light adsorption performance, leading to a decrease in the optical bandgap from 2.00 to 1.43 eV. The doped CMP (TCNQ@TAPFc-TFPPy-CMP) exhibited promising catalytic activity in photocatalytic CO2 reduction under visible light, yielding 546.8 μmol g−1 h−1 of CO with a selectivity of 96% and 5.2 μmol g−1 h−1 of CH4. This represented an 80% increase in the CO yield compared to the maternal TAPFc-TFPPy-CMP. The steady-state photoluminescence (PL) and fluorescence lifetime (FL) measurements reveal faster carrier separation and transport after the doping. As for nonlinear time series prediction, many different kinds of varying-coefficient models have been proposed and analysised in recent years. A kind of varying functional-coefficient autoregressive model, called the deep belief network-based state-dependent autoregressive (DBN-AR) model is considered in this paper. The stability conditions and existing conditions of limit cycle of the DBN-AR model are also studied. An especial designed parameter estimation method is used to identify the DBN-AR model. The DBN-AR model is used to predict the famous Canadian lynx data and Henon chaotic series, the prediction capability of the DBN-AR model is compared with other prediction models, the experimental results show that the DBN-AR model obtains better prediction accuracy. In this study, the effect of different starches from corn, potato and pea containing varying amylose/amylopectin ratios on the textural and rehydration properties of extruded peanut protein gel particles were investigated. Results showed that textural and rehydration properties of peanut protein extruded with corn starch, potato starch and amylopectin are slightly inferior to those of peanut protein with pea starch extrudates. The addition of pea starch led to an increase in the pore structure of the peanut protein extrudates and improved their water absorption index, simultaneously reducing the hardness and density. Pea starch, as a natural water-absorbing expansion material, helped peanut protein to form cross-linked gel polymers that bind more water molecules, in addition to further polymerization with peanut protein, which made the protein secondary structure became disordered. These changes directly affected the textural properties of the extrudates. In addition, the blended system of starches and peanut protein tended to form more elastic solids, which affected the expansion of the extrudates. Lactate has emerged as a key player in regulating neural functions and cognitive processes. Beyond its function as an energy substrate and signal molecule, recent research has revealed lactate to serve as an epigenetic regulator in the brain. However, the molecular mechanisms by which lactate regulates spatial memory and its role in the prevention of cognitive disorders remain unclear. Herein, we injected L-lactate (10 μmol/kg/d for 6 d) into the mouse's hippocampus, followed by the Morris water maze (MWM) test and molecular analyses. Improved spatial memory performances were observed in mice injected with lactate. Besides, lactate upregulated the expression of synaptic proteins post-synaptic density 95 (PSD95), synaptophysin (SYP), and growth associated protein 43 (GAP43) in hippocampal tissues and HT22 cells, suggesting a potential role in synaptic transmission and memory formation. The facilitative role of monocarboxylate transporter 2 (MCT2), a neuron-specific lactate transporter, in this process was confirmed, as MCT2 antagonists attenuated the lactate-induced upregulation of synaptic proteins. Moreover, lactate induced protein lactylation, a post-translational modification, which could be suppressed by MCT2 inhibition. RNA sequencing of lactated-injected hippocampal tissues revealed a comprehensive gene expression profile influenced by lactate, with significant changes in genes associated with transcriptional progress. These data demonstrate that hippocampal lactate injection enhances spatial memory in mice, potentially through the upregulation of synaptic proteins and induction of protein lactylation, with MCT2 playing a crucial role in these processes. Gardenia is both a food and medicine plant. It is widely used for cardiovascular protection, and its main bioactive ingredient is crocetin. This study aims to observe the therapeutic effects of crocetin on chronic heart failure in rats induced by various etiologies. It further compares the efficacy differences between preventative and treatment administration, varying dosages, and treatment durations, to provide improved guidance for medication in heart failure rats and determine which categories of chronic heart failure rats might benefit most from crocetin. Chronic heart failure models induced by abdominal aorta constriction, renal hypertension, and coronary artery ligation were constructed. By examining cardiac function, blood biochemistry, and histopathology, the study assessed the preventive and therapeutic effects of crocetin on load-induced and myocardial ischemia-induced heart failure. The results showed that in all three models, both treatment and preventative administration of crocetin significantly improved chronic heart failure in rats, especially in preventative administration. The results indicate crocetin may be beneficial for improving symptoms and functional capacity in rats with heart failure. BACKGROUND: In this study, a defective biochar with honeycomb‐like porous structure (BC‐PH) was successfully prepared by the activation of pristine biochar derived from bamboo shoot shell with the chemical reagent KOH, and was applied to selectively separate ReO4− (a chemical analogue for radioactive TcO4−) from acidic solutions. RESULTS: The diffusion, mass transfer and recovery for ReO4− could be significantly improved by the large specific surface area (SBET, 2412 m2 g−1) and high total volume (Vtot, 1.26 cm3 g−1) of BC‐PH. The influence of adsorbent dosage, system pH and coexisting ions with different valence states on the adsorption capability and selectivity of BC‐PH toward ReO4− was systematically investigated. BC‐PH exhibited high adsorption capacity and selectivity for ReO4− with a maximal sorption capacity (qm) of 73.11 mg g−1 at initial pH 2. By applying an analysis of kinetics and isotherm adsorption studies, the liquid film diffusion was verified to be the primary rate‐controlling step for the sorption of ReO4− and the multilayer adsorption process occurred on the heterogeneous surface of BC‐PH. Besides, the recovery of ReO4− using BC‐PH occurred in an exothermic and spontaneous manner according to thermodynamic analysis. Furthermore, an investigation of the adsorption mechanism suggested that pore filling and electron donor–acceptor interaction were mainly related to the removal of ReO4−. Toluene treatment has received extensive attention, and ozone synergistic catalytic oxidation was thought to be a potential method to degrade VOCs (violate organic compounds) due to its low reaction temperature and high catalytic efficiency. A series of bimetal/Cord monolithic catalysts were prepared by impregnation with cordierite, including MnxCu5−x/Cord, MnxCo5−x/Cord and CuxCo5−x/Cord (x = 1, 2, 3, 4). Analysis of textural properties, structures and morphology characteristics on the prepared catalysts were conducted to evaluate their performance on toluene conversion. Effects of active component ratio, ozone addition and space velocity on the catalytic oxidation of toluene were investigated. Results showed that MnxCo5−x/Cord was the best among the three bimetal catalysts, and toluene conversion and mineralization rates reached 100 and 96% under the condition of Mn2Co3/Cord with 3.0 g/m3 O3 at the space velocity of 12,000 h−1. Ozone addition in the catalytic oxidation of toluene by MnxCo5−x/Cord could efficiently avoid the 40% reduction of the specific surface area of catalysts, because it could lower the optimal temperature from 300 to 100 °C. (Co/Mn)(Co/Mn)2O4 diffraction peaks in XRD spectra indicated all the four MnxCo1−x/Cord catalysts had a spinel structure, and diffraction peak intensity of spinel reached the largest at the ratio of Mn:Co = 2:3. Toluene conversion rate increased with rising ozone concentration because intermediate products generated by toluene degradation might react with excess ozone to generate free radicals like ·OH, which would improve the toluene mineralization rate of Mn2Co3/Cord catalyst. In this study, ultrasound-assisted natural deep-eutectic solvents (NaDESs) were used to extract Chlorella. A safe and stable Ect-Pan DES (DES formed by ectoin and panthenol) was prepared by mixing different molar ratios of ectoin and panthenol. Compared with traditional extraction methods, Ect-Pan DES combined with ultrasonic treatment not only saves time but also improves the extraction efficiency of Chlorella (5.32 mg g−1). Chlorella extract has good skin permeability and can penetrate the skin cuticle to the epidermis and dermis. Chlorella extract has good anti-wrinkle and firming effects on the human body along with its biosafety, biocompatibility, and antioxidant activity. Therefore, Chlorella extract has potential for application as an anti-wrinkle agent for anti-wrinkle cosmetics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
