The orange wheat blossom midge, Sitodiplosis mosellana (Géhin) (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), is a significant wheat pest in the Prairie Provinces of Canada and northern regions of the USA. Wheat phenology plays a critical role in wheat midge oviposition. We hypothesized that S. mosellana oviposition behaviour is influenced by volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by wheat at two adjacent wheat growth stages: preanthesis and postanthesis. A higher number of S. mosellana eggs laid on preanthesis than postanthesis spikes in an oviposition choice experiment using the susceptible spring wheat cultivar 'Roblin'. In preanthesis, wheat emitted higher amounts of Z-3-hexenyl acetate (Z3-06:OAc) than at the postanthesis stage. Higher amounts of methyl ketones such as 2-tridecanone, 2-pentadecanone, and 2-undecanone were emitted by wheat in the postanthesis stage and these VOCs were sensitive to S. mosellana antennae used in the Gas Chromatography-Electroantennographic Detection. Females were attracted to synthetic Z3-06:OAc but were deterred by 2-tridecanone relative to the solvent control in the vertical Y-tube olfactometer. 2-Undecanone and 2-pentadecanone did not show any attractiveness or deterrence. In a no-choice oviposition experiment, fewer eggs were laid in preanthesis wheat exposed to a synthetic VOC blend of Z3-06:OAc, 2-undecanone, 2-tridecanone, and 2-pentadecanone at the concentrations released by postanthesis spikes. This study shows that the reduction of Z3-06:OAc, in the VOC mix, and possibly the increase in 2-tridecanone, are likely responsible for the reduction in oviposition on postanthesis wheat. The vacancy effect in quantum spin liquid (QSL) has been extensively studied. A finite density of random vacancies in the Kitaev model can lead to a pileup of low-energy density of states (DOS), which is generally experimentally determined by a scaling behavior of thermodynamic or magnetization quantities. Here, we report detailed muon spin relaxation (μSR) results of H3LiIr2O6, a Kitaev QSL candidate with vacancies. The absence of magnetic order is confirmed down to 80 mK, and the spin fluctuations are found to be persistent at low temperatures. Intriguingly, the time-field scaling law of longitudinal-field (LF)-μSR polarization is observed down to 0.1 K. This indicates a dynamical scaling, whose critical exponent of 0.46 is excellently consistent with the scaling behavior of specific heat and magnetization data. All the observations point to the finite DOS with the form N (E) ∼ E − ν , which is expected for the Kitaev QSL in the presence of vacancies. Among the city's underclass, Suttree finds a commonality in human suffering and comes to the profound realization that "all souls are one and all souls lonely." The essay demonstrates how Suttree's personal experience of dearth and deprivation and the sense of fellow feeling, pity, and outrage elicited from his perception of and concern for the frequently unjust suffering of others are instances of pathos that persuade him to reject his father's aristocratic and elitist "pathos of distance" in favor of the egalitarian and democratic "pathos of oneness." Background On-demand topical products could be an important tool for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention. We evaluated the safety, pharmacokinetics, and ex vivo pharmacodynamics of a tenofovir alafenamide/elvitegravir (TAF/EVG, 20 mg/16 mg) insert administered rectally. Methods MTN-039 was a phase 1, open-label, single-arm, 2-dose study. Blood, rectal fluid, and rectal tissue were collected over 72 hours following rectal administration of 1 and 2 TAF/EVG inserts for each participant. Results TAF/EVG inserts were safe and well tolerated. EVG and tenofovir (TFV) were detected in blood plasma at low concentrations: median peak concentrations after 2 inserts were EVG 2.4 ng/mL and TFV 4.4 ng/mL. Rectal tissue EVG peaked at 2 hours (median, 2 inserts = 9 ng/mg) but declined to below limit of quantification in the majority of samples at 24 hours, whereas tenofovir diphosphate (TFV-DP) remained high >2000 fmol/million cells for 72 hours with 2 inserts. Compared to baseline, median cumulative log10 HIV p24 antigen of ex vivo rectal tissue HIV infection was reduced at each time point for both 1 and 2 inserts (P <.065 and P <.039, respectively). Discussion Rectal administration of TAF/EVG inserts achieved high rectal tissue concentrations of EVG and TFV-DP with low systemic drug exposure and demonstrable ex vivo inhibition of HIV infection for 72 hours. Holes in silicon quantum dots are promising for spin qubit applications due to the strong intrinsic spin-orbit coupling. The spin-orbit coupling produces complex hole-spin dynamics, providing opportunities to further optimise spin qubits. Here, we demonstrate a singlet-triplet qubit using hole states in a planar metal-oxide-semiconductor double quantum dot. We demonstrate rapid qubit control with singlet-triplet oscillations up to 400 MHz. The qubit exhibits promising coherence, with a maximum dephasing time of 600 ns, which is enhanced to 1.3 μs using refocusing techniques. We investigate the magnetic field anisotropy of the eigenstates, and determine a magnetic field orientation to improve the qubit initialisation fidelity. These results present a step forward for spin qubit technology, by implementing a high quality singlet-triplet hole-spin qubit in planar architecture suitable for scaling up to 2D arrays of coupled qubits. Hole-spin qubits based on semiconductor quantum dots offer potential advantages over their electron-spin counterparts, such as fast qubit control and enhanced coherence times. Background: Children and young people (CYP) seen by child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) often experience safeguarding issues. Yet little is known about the volume and nature of these risks, including how different adversities or risks relate to one another. This exploratory study aims to bridge this gap, examining rates at entry to services and profiles of risk using a latent class analysis. Methods: Data were extracted for CYP who received at least one risk assessment at CAMHs in South London between January 2007 and December 2017. In total, there were 21,688 risk assessments. Latent class analysis was used to identify profiles of risk from the risk assessments. Results: Concerns about parent mental health (n = 5274; 24%), emotional abuse (n = 4487; 21%), violence towards others (n = 4210; 19%), destructive behaviour (n = 4005; 18%), and not attending school (n = 3762; 17%) were the most commonly identified risks. Six distinct profiles of risk were identified from the latent class analyses: (1) maltreatment and externalising behaviours, (2) maltreatment but low risk to self and others, (3) antisocial behaviour, (4) inadequate caregiver supervision and risk to self and others, (5) risk to self but not others, and (6) mental health needs but low risk. Conclusions: These findings provide fresh insights into adverse experiences and risks identified by CAMHS. For professionals, the profiles identified in this study might provide insights into profiles of identified risks, in contrast to traditional cumulative approaches to risk. Tracking biodiversity and its dynamics at scale is essential if we are to solve global environmental challenges. Detecting animal vocalizations in passively recorded audio data offers an automatable, inexpensive, and taxonomically broad way to monitor biodiversity. However, the labor and expertise required to label new data and fine-tune algorithms for each deployment is a major barrier. In this study, we applied a pretrained bird vocalization detection model, BirdNET, to 152,376 h of audio comprising datasets from Norway, Taiwan, Costa Rica, and Brazil. We manually listened to a subset of detections for each species in each dataset, calibrated classification thresholds, and found precisions of over 90% for 109 of 136 species. While some species were reliably detected across multiple datasets, the performance of others was dataset specific. By filtering out unreliable detections, we could extract species and community-level insight into diel (Brazil) and seasonal (Taiwan) temporal scales, as well as landscape (Costa Rica) and national (Norway) spatial scales. Our findings demonstrate that, with relatively fast but essential local calibration, a single vocalization detection model can deliver multifaceted community and species-level insight across highly diverse datasets; unlocking the scale at which acoustic monitoring can deliver immediate applied impact. Aims Women with angina and non-obstructive coronary artery disease (ANOCA) have a heightened risk for cardiovascular events, and the pathophysiology for ischaemic symptoms may be related to alterations in microvascular structure and function. We examined the use of breathing-enhanced oxygenation-sensitive cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (OS-CMR) using vasoactive breathing manoeuvres to assess myocardial oxygenation in women with ANOCA. Methods and results We recruited women (aged 40–65 years) from two sites in Canada who presented to healthcare with persistent retrosternal chest pain and found to have ANOCA, or without a history of cardiovascular disease. All participants were scanned using a clinical 3T MRI scanner, and OS-CMR images were acquired over a breath hold following paced hyperventilation to measure global and regional measurements of heterogeneity. Fifty-four women with ANOCA (age: 55 ± 6.2 years) and 48 healthy controls (age: 51.2 ± 4.8 years) were recruited. There was no significant difference in volume, function, mass, or global myocardial oxygenation between the two groups [mean %Δ in signal intensity (SI): 4.9 (±7.3) vs. 4.5 (±10.1), P = 0.82]. Women with ANOCA had higher regional variations in myocardial oxygenation in circumferential [median %Δ in SI: 5.1 (2.0–7.6) vs. 2.2 (1.4–3.5), P = 0.0004] and longitudinal directions [median %Δ in SI: 11.4 (5.4–16.7) vs. 6.0 (3.0–7.0), P = 0.001], which remained present in a multivariate model. Conclusion Heterogeneous myocardial oxygenation may explain ischaemic symptoms without any associated epicardial obstructive coronary artery disease. Regional variations in myocardial oxygenation on OS-CMR could serve as an important diagnostic marker for microvascular dysfunction in women with ANOCA. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Carbon monoxide (CO) emission has been observed in a number of core-collapse supernovae (SNe) and is known to be an important coolant at late times. We have implemented a chemical reaction network in the radiative-transfer code cmfgen to investigate the formation of CO and its impact on SN ejecta. We calculate two 1D SN models with and without CO: a BSG explosion model at one nebular epoch and a full time-sequence (50–300 d) for a red supergiant explosion. In both models, CO forms at nebular times in the dense, inner regions at velocities <2000 km s |$^{-1}$|  where line emission from CO can dominate the cooling and reduce the local temperature by as much as a factor of 2, weakening emission lines and causing the optical light curve to fade faster. That energy is instead emitted in CO bands, primarily the fundamental band at |$\sim 4.5 \mathrm{\mu m}$|⁠ , which accounts for up to 20 per cent of the total luminosity at late times. However, the non-monotonic nature of the CO cooling function can cause numerical difficulties and introduce multiple temperature solutions. This issue is compounded by the sensitivity of the CO abundance to a few reaction rates, many of which have large uncertainties or disparate values across literature sources. Our results also suggest that, in many SNe, CO-level populations are far from their local thermodynamic equilibrium values. Featured Application: Improving cornering skill has the potential to improve overall cycling performance. However, clinically used balance tests do not reflect cornering performance. More cycling-specific balance tests need to be developed to better assess cycling performance. Balance is paramount to safe and successful cycling, both in competition and recreation. Balance has been investigated in the return-to-cycling context, but its relationship to cycling performance is unknown. Our study aimed to analyse the relationship between balance, measured by common clinical balance tests, and cycling performance. Seven competitive cyclists participated in this cross-sectional correlational study. We collected field-based measures of cycling performance, including mean velocity, minimum and maximum velocity, mean corner speed, average lap time, and lean angle. Also, we measured balance via the balance error scoring system, the star excursion balance test, the lateral reach test, and the modified Bass test of dynamic balance. Strong correlations between cornering performance and cycling performance (r = 0.65–0.87, p < 0.01) were detected. Weak correlations between clinical balance tests and cycling performance (r = 0.33–0.53, p < 0.05) were observed. In conclusion, our study showed that improving cornering performance has the potential to improve overall cycling performance. We also found no clear correlations between our clinical balance tests and cycling performance. These weak correlations between postural control in standing and cycling performance suggest that standing balance and balancing during cycling are distinct motor control processes. The broadnose sevengill shark (Notorynchus cepedianus) is a large, apex predator found in temperate waters around the world. Yet data on their distribution are limited, with reports of species occurrence typically restricted to specific bays or estuaries where they have been historically observed in high seasonal abundances. The Puget Sound is located in the southern portion of the Salish Sea, a large estuary spanning the border between northwestern Washington state, USA and southwestern British Columbia, Canada, and serves as an economic, cultural, and ecological hub. Until recently, there was only one verified record of broadnose sevengill sharks in the Salish Sea and none in the Puget Sound. However, our recent multi-agency collaborative effort revealed the presence of adult and sub-adult broadnose sevengill sharks in South Puget Sound, extending their previously known range hundreds of kilometers and into a new ecosystem. Monogenic diseases of immune dysregulation should be considered in the evaluation of children presenting with recurrent neutrophilic dermatoses in association with systemic signs of inflammation, autoimmune disease, hematologic abnormalities, and opportunistic or recurrent infections. We report the case of a 2‐year‐old boy presenting with a neutrophilic dermatosis, found to have a novel likely pathogenic germline variant of the IKAROS Family Zinc Finger 1 (IKZF1) gene; the mutation likely results in a loss of function dimerization defective protein based on reports and studies of similar variants. IKZF1 variants could potentially lead to aberrant neutrophil chemotaxis and development of neutrophilic dermatoses. Long‐term surveillance is required to monitor the development of hematologic malignancy, autoimmunity, immunodeficiency, and infection in patients with pathogenic IKZF1 germline variants. Summary: This population-based study analyzes hip fracture and osteoporosis treatment rates among older adults, stratified by place of residence prior to fracture. Hip fracture rates were higher among older adults living in the community and discharged to long-term care (LTC) after fracture, compared to LTC residents and older adults living in the community. Only 23% of LTC residents at high fracture risk received osteoporosis treatment. Purpose: This population-based study examines hip fracture rate and osteoporosis management among long-term care (LTC) residents > 65 years of age compared to community-dwelling older adults at the time of fracture and admitted to LTC after fracture, in Ontario, Canada. Methods: Healthcare utilization and administrative databases were linked using unique, encoded identifiers from the ICES Data Repository to estimate hip fractures (identified using the Public Health Agency of Canada algorithm and International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 codes) and osteoporosis management (pharmacotherapy) among adults > 66 years from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2018. Sex-specific and age-standardized rates were compared by pre-fracture residency and discharge location (i.e., LTC to LTC, community to LTC, or community to community). Fracture risk was determined using the Fracture Risk Scale (FRS). Results: At baseline (2014/15), the overall age-standardized hip fracture rate among LTC residents was 223 per 10,000 person-years (173 per 10,000 females and 157 per 10,000 males), 509 per 10,000 person-years (468 per 10,000 females and 320 per 10,000 males) among the community to LTC cohort, and 31.5 per 10,000 person-years (43.1 per 10,000 females and 25.6 per 10,000 males). During the 5-year observation period, the overall annual average percent change (APC) for hip fracture increased significantly in LTC (AAPC = + 8.6 (95% CI 5.0 to 12.3; p = 0.004) compared to the community to LTC group (AAPC = + 2.5 (95% CI − 3.0 to 8.2; p = 0.248)) and the community-to-community cohort (AAPC − 3.8 (95% CI − 6.7 to − 0.7; p = 030)). However, hip fracture rate remained higher in the community to LTC group over the study period. There were 33,594 LTC residents identified as high risk of fracture (FRS score 4 +), of which 7777 were on treatment (23.3%). Conclusion: Overall, hip fracture rates have increased in LTC and among community-dwelling adults admitted to LTC after fracture. However, hip fracture rates among community-dwelling adults have decreased over time. A non-significant increase in osteoporosis treatment rates was observed among LTC residents at high risk of fracture (FRS4 +). The DESTINY+(Demonstration and Experiment of Space Technology for INterplanetary voYage with Phaethon fLyby and dUst Science) Dust Analyser (DDA) is a state-of-the-art dust telescope for the in situ analysis of cosmic dust particles. As the primary scientific payload of the DESTINY+ mission, it serves the purpose of characterizing the dust environment within the Earth–Moon system, investigating interplanetary and interstellar dust populations at 1 AU from the Sun and studying the dust cloud enveloping the asteroid (3200) Phaethon. DDA features a two-axis pointing platform for increasing the accessible fraction of the sky. The instrument combines a trajectory sensor with an impact ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometer, enabling the correlation of dynamical, physical and compositional properties for individual dust grains. For each dust measurement, a set of nine signals provides the surface charge, particle size, velocity vector, as well as the atomic, molecular and isotopic composition of the dust grain. With its capabilities, DDA is a key asset in advancing our understanding of the cosmic dust populations present along the orbit of DESTINY+. In addition to providing the scientific context, we are presenting an overview of the instrument's design and functionality, showing first laboratory measurements and giving insights into the observation planning. The Cassini mission provided evidence for a global subsurface ocean and ongoing hydrothermal activity on Enceladus, based on results from Cassini's mass spectrometers. Laboratory simulations of hydrothermal conditions on icy moons are needed to further constrain the composition of ejected ice grains containing hydrothermally altered organic material. Here, we present results from our newly established facility to simulate the processing of ocean material within the temperature range 80–150°C and the pressure range 80–130 bar, representing conditions suggested for the water–rock interface on Enceladus. With this new facility, we investigate the hydrothermal processing of triglycine (GGG) peptide and, for the first time, analyse the extracted samples using laser-induced liquid beam ion desorption (LILBID) mass spectrometry, a laboratory analogue for impact ionization mass spectrometry of ice grains in space. We outline an approach to elucidate hydrothermally processed GGG in ice grains ejected from icy moons based on characteristic differences between GGG anion and cation mass spectra. These differences are linked to hydrothermal processing and thus provide a fingerprint of hydrothermal activity on extraterrestrial bodies. These results will serve as important guidelines for biosignatures potentially obtained by a future Enceladus mission and the SUrface Dust Analyzer (SUDA) instrument onboard Europa Clipper. The article discusses the importance of understanding the energy flow and dynamic motions in the solar atmosphere in order to uncover mysteries about the Sun, such as how it is heated and the formation of cool clouds called prominences. The majority of the fluid in the lower layers of the solar atmosphere is neutral, meaning it is not directly affected by magnetic fields. However, interactions between neutral particles and charged ions and electrons allow the magnetic field to couple with the neutrals and drive coherent dynamics. Recent advances in observational instruments and theoretical modeling have provided new insights into the physics of partially ionized plasma in the solar atmosphere. The article also highlights the need for a unified understanding of the underlying physical processes and the importance of studying partially ionized plasma in the formation, dynamics, and stability of solar prominences. The thematic issue of the journal aims to present the cutting edge of current research on partially ionized plasma in the solar atmosphere and provide a roadmap for future developments. The ambipolar diffusion approximation is used to model partially ionized plasma dynamics in a single-fluid setting. To correctly apply the commonly used version of ambipolar diffusion, a set of criteria should be satisfied including the requirement that the difference in velocity between charges and neutral species (known as drift velocity) is much smaller than the thermal velocity, otherwise the drift velocity will drive a non-negligible level of further collisions between the two species. In this paper, we explore the consequences of relaxing this assumption. We show that a new induction equation can be formulated without this assumption. This formulation reduces to the ambipolar induction equation in the case the drift velocity is small. In the large drift velocity limit, the feedback of the drift velocity on the collision frequency results in decreased diffusion of the magnetic field compared with the standard ambipolar diffusion approximation for the same parameters. This has a natural consequence of reducing the frictional heating that can occur. Applying this to results from flux emergence simulations where the expansion of the magnetic field leads to strong adiabatic cooling of the partially ionized chromosphere resulted in a noticeable reduction in the magnitude of the predicted drift velocities. Turbulence is a fundamental process that drives mixing and energy redistribution across a wide range of astrophysical systems. For warm (T≈104 K) plasma, the material is partially ionized, consisting of both ionized and neutral species. The interactions between ionized and neutral species are thought to play a key role in heating (or cooling) of partially ionized plasmas. Here, mixing is studied in a two-fluid partially ionized plasma undergoing the shear-driven Kelvin–Helmholtz instability to evaluate the thermal processes within the mixing layer. Two-dimensional numerical simulations are performed using the open-source (PIP) code that solves for a two-fluid plasma consisting of a charge-neutral plasma and multiple excited states of neutral hydrogen. Both collisional and radiative ionization and recombination are included. In the mixing layer, a complex array of ionization and recombination processes occur as the cooler layer joins the hotter layer, and vice versa. In localized areas of the mixing layer, the temperature exceeds the initial temperatures of either layer with heating dominated by collisional recombinations over turbulent dissipation. The mixing layer is in approximate ionization-recombination equilibrium, however the obtained equilibrium is different to the Saha–Boltzmann local thermal equilibrium. The dynamic mixing processes may be important in determining the ionization states, and with that intensities of spectral lines, of observed mixing layers. Introduction: Mental fatigue is an early and enduring symptom in persons with autoimmune disease particularly multiple sclerosis (MS). Neuromodulation has emerged as a potential treatment although optimal cortical targets have yet to be determined. We aimed to examine cortical hemodynamic responses within bilateral dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC) and frontopolar areas during single and dual cognitive tasks in persons with MS-related fatigue compared to matched controls. Methods: We recruited persons (15 MS and 12 age- and sex-matched controls) who did not have physical or cognitive impairment and were free from depressive symptoms. Functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) registered hemodynamic responses during the tasks. We calculated oxyhemoglobin peak, time-to-peak, coherence between channels (a potential marker of neurovascular coupling) and functional connectivity (z-score). Results: In MS, dlPFC demonstrated disrupted hemodynamic coherence during both single and dual tasks, as evidenced by non-significant and negative correlations between fNIRS channels. In MS, reduced coherence occurred in left dorsolateral PFC during the single task but occurred bilaterally as the task became more challenging. Functional connectivity was lower during dual compared to single tasks in the right dorsolateral PFC in both groups. Lower z-score was related to greater feelings of fatigue. Peak and time-to-peak hemodynamic response did not differ between groups or tasks. Conclusions: Hemodynamic responses were inconsistent and disrupted in people with MS experiencing mental fatigue, which worsened as the task became more challenging. Background New vaccine products were recently authorized for protection against invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) in Canada. Our aim was to determine age- and serotype-specific trends in IPD incidence and severity in Canada's largest province, Ontario. Methods We included all confirmed IPD cases reported in Ontario and defined the pre–pneumococcal 13-valent conjugate vaccine (PCV13) era (01/2007 to 12/2010), post-PCV13 era (01/2011 to 12/2019), and coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic era (01/2020 to 12/2022). We estimated incidence, hospitalization, and case fatality rate (CFR) by age. We grouped IPD cases by vaccine-specific serotypes (PCV13; PCV15-non-PCV13; PCV20-non-PCV13; PCV20-non-PCV15; polysaccharide 23-valent vaccine-non-PCV20; and non-vaccine-preventable [NVP]). We then compared incidence rates by age and serotype group in the pre- and post-PCV13 eras by calculating rate ratios (RRs) and their 95% CIs. Results Incidence and hospitalizations declined from the pre- to post-PCV13 era in children aged <5 years (RR, 0.7; 95% CI, 0.6–0.8; and RR, 0.8; 95% CI, 0.7–0.9, respectively), but the CFR increased (1.4% to 2.3%). Other age groups saw smaller declines or more stable incidence rates across the years; hospitalizations increased in adults aged 50–64 years (RR, 1.2; 95% CI, 1.1–1.4) and ≥65 years (RR, 1.1; 95% CI, 1.0–1.1). For all ages, IPD cases and hospitalizations attributable to PCV13 serotypes declined, and those attributable to PCV15-non-PCV13, PCV20-non-PCV13, and NVP serotypes increased. IPD incidence declined during the COVID-19 era. Conclusions IPD incidence and hospitalizations due to PCV13 serotypes decreased after PCV13 introduction but increased for other serotypes. Resuscitative thoracotomy (RT) is a critical procedure performed in certain trauma patients in extremis, with extremely low survival rates. Currently, there is a paucity of data pertaining to prehospital variables and their predictive role in survival outcomes in traumatic cardiac arrest (TCA) patients requiring RT. The aim of the study was to determine the impact of prehospital intubation and out-of-hospital time (OOHT) on return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and survival in TCA requiring RT. This was a retrospective cohort study of trauma patients presenting to two level-1 trauma centers, St. Michael's Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, in Toronto, Canada (January 1, 2005-December 31, 2020). Our exposures of interest were any prehospital intubation attempt and OOHT. Primary and secondary outcome measures were ROSC post-RT and survival to hospital discharge, respectively, and data analysis was performed using univariate logistic regression. A total of 195 patients were included, of which 86% were male, and the mean age was 33 years. ROSC and survival to hospital discharge were achieved in 30% and 5% of patients, respectively. Of those who survived to discharge, 89% sustained penetrating trauma. There was no association between OOHT and ROSC (OR = 1.00, 95% CI 0.97–1.03) or survival (OR = 0.99, 95% CI 0.94–1.05). The odds of ROSC were lower in penetrating trauma in the presence of any prehospital intubation attempt (OR = 0.39, 95% CI 0.19–0.82, p = 0.01). ROSC was less likely among all patients with no prehospital signs of life (SOL) compared to those who had prehospital SOL (OR = 0.30, 95% CI 0.13–0.69, p < 0.01). There was a significant association between prehospital intubation and lower likelihoods of ROSC in the penetrating TCA population requiring RT, as well as with the absence of prehospital SOL in all patients. It is easy to see that the expectation of such a function is itself homogeneous of degree k in ∑, the covariance matrix, and are also equivariant under the action of 풪(m) on ∑. The space of such homogeneous, equivariant, matrix‐valued functions is spanned by elements of the type Wrpλ(W), where r∈{0,...,k} and, for each r, λ varies over the partitions of k−r, and pλ(W) denotes the power‐sum symmetric function indexed by λ. In the analogous case where W is replaced by W−1, these elements are replaced by W−rpλ(W−1). Competency in key areas is required for job readiness for paramedics, and is monitored by preceptors through in-ambulance placements. Without preceptors, learners are unable to move forward with their training and diploma completion. To address this, an alternative model in community settings to provide students with effective learning opportunities could be explored. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of an out-of-ambulance placement model on competency achievement for students in a 2-year primary care paramedic diploma programme at a Canadian college. One cohort of second-year students selfselected a hybrid model of placement, where 6 weeks of training were completed in ambulance and 6 weeks out of ambulance. Competencies were tracked and approved by preceptors, who were certified paramedics and other health professionals. Results were recorded using paramedic competency tracking software and analysed. Compared to traditional placement, the hybrid placement model resulted in a similar average number of competencies being achieved and provided unique opportunities for competency achievement across groups. Oxygenation-sensitive cardiovascular magnetic resonance (OS-CMR) is a novel, powerful tool for assessing coronary function in vivo. The data extraction and analysis however are labor-intensive. The objective of this study was to provide an automated approach for the extraction, visualization, and biomarker selection of OS-CMR images. We created a Python-based tool to automate extraction and export of raw patient data, featuring 3336 attributes per participant, into a template compatible with common data analytics frameworks, including the functionality to select predictive features for the given disease state. Each analysis was completed in about 2 min. The features selected by both ANOVA and MIC significantly outperformed (p < 0.001) the null set and complete set of features in two datasets, with mean AUROC scores of 0.89eatures f 0.94lete set of features in two datasets, with mean AUROC scores that our tool is suitable for automated data extraction and analysis of OS-CMR images. A 37-year-old woman presented with nausea, vomiting and headache. She was found to be profoundly hyponatraemic with a sodium of 121 mmol/L, which deteriorated following a fluid challenge. An initial hyponatraemia screen identified adrenal insufficiency, with cortisol of 48 nmol/L. History confirmed she had been taking the herbal plant, ashwagandha. After 3 days of fluid restriction and steroid replacement, her sodium returned to normal (139 mmol/L). This article reviews the possible harmful effects of over-the-counter herbal remedies and highlights the importance of considering a wide differential diagnosis in patients presenting with non-specific symptoms. Over the last two decades there have been considerable advances in modelling the spectra of massive stars and supernovae (SNe). Despite this progress, there are still numerous uncertainties that affect the accuracy of models. For massive stars, convection, instabilities, clumping, and our inability to model stellar winds self-consistently likely introduce systematic errors into our analyses. For SNe, and particularly for core-collapse SNe, departures from spherical symmetry strongly affect observed spectra and need to be taken into account. There are also issues with clumping, and mixing processes (both in the progenitor and the SN explosion) that need to be resolved. For both massive stars and SNe, the accuracy and availability of atomic data continues to be an ongoing issue influencing analyses. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The hemp industry has grown exponentially with the recent legalization of Cannabis sativa in Canada. With this new market expansion, there is an increased need for hemp plants, particularly for production of cannabinoids. Growing concerns regarding pesticide residues in commodities for human consumption, as well as global demand for fertilizer has increased consumer demand for natural products as alternatives to synthetic agrochemicals and pest management strategies. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential for using different composite granite dusts applied as soil amendments in improving C. sativa growth, and cannabinoid production (specifically, cannabidiol and cannabidiolic acid). We selected three varieties of industrial hemp with low yield production of cannabidiol (Fibranova, CFX-2, and Katani) and one variety with high yield production of cannabidiol (Cherry Blossom). Varieties were planted in potting soil amended with zero, five or ten percent granite dust mixture, and assayed for growth characteristics, and cannabinoid composition. Among tested cannabis varieties, results suggest that improvements to flower growth (> 44% mass) and cannabinoid production (> 2.5 fold or > 145%) from application of granite dust were evident in one variety of fibre hemp, CFX-2. Overall, this work suggests there may be selective benefits to soil applications of granite dust composites to improve hemp propagation, and that degree of improvement to cannabinoid production vary between varieties of hemp.
