In this study, we discuss the observation of spin-wave interference generated by magnetic oscillators. We employ micromagnetic simulations for two coherent spin-Hall nanowire oscillators positioned nearby, horizontally or vertically. The two nanowires produce circular waves with short wavelengths on the order of 100 nm, which interfere with each other. In the horizontal configuration, the spin waves exhibit constructive and destructive fringes, indicating amplification or cancellation of the amplitudes, respectively. The synchronization of spin waves in the current geometry of the two nanowires is facilitated by the combination of dipolar fields and propagating spin waves. Additionally, the vertical alignment results in standing spin waves characterized by multiple antinodes and nodes. In this study, we propose a simple spectrum sensing method based on exploiting the properties of a group‐delay phaser. Following the theory that an additive white noise should have a flat spectrum over the band of interest, which is not the case for most data‐modulated signals, the spectrum shape of input waveforms has been the test variable. The latter enables a clear distinguishing method between a noise background and a communication signal of a transmission body operating over the desired band. The phaser scatters the frequency components of received signals in time space, allowing a time‐domain inspection of the corresponding spectral response. The accurate closed‐form analytical expression for the probability of detection in an additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel has been derived, in addition to the false alarm probability. The probability of detection has been studied versus signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) in AWGN and multipath channels. As well, the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves have been plotted for different values of SNR. A good performance has been achieved by our scheme, which has recorded a detection probability of 0.86 for a false alarm probability of 0.1, and further shown a kind of robustness against noise uncertainties. Experimental works have eventually been conducted, and the empirical results also validate the effectiveness of the elaborated approach. Background: Pregnancy related hypertension is a leading cause of preventable maternal morbidity and mortality in the US, with consistently higher rates affecting racial minorities. Many complications are preventable with timely treatment, in alignment with the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health's Patient Safety Bundle ("Bundle"). The Bundle has been implemented successfully in inpatient settings, but 30% of preeclampsia-related morbidity occurs in outpatient settings in North Carolina. To address this, we have integrated community engagement and implementation science approaches to identify facilitators and barriers to Bundle implementation, which supports its adaptation for outpatient settings and identifies implementation strategies to be tested in a subsequent study. Methods: Eleven key informant interviews were conducted across three clinics to assess the implementation needs for effectively utilizing the Bundle. The interview guide was created using the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research domains to identify facilitators and barriers to implementation. Additionally, three focus group discussions with patient participants were conducted to understand lived experiences and perceptions of respectful care. A coalition of community partners, patients, providers, those with lived experience, and the research team reviewed materials from the formative study design to dissemination and planning for future study. Results: Barriers included inadequate provider-patient interaction time, patients' lack of transportation to access care, limited protocols to inform/assess/treat/escalate patients, and workforce capacity (staff training and turnover). Facilitators included staff recognition of the importance of treating preeclampsia, champion buy-in of the Bundle's ability to improve outcomes, co-location of pharmacies for immediate treatment, and staff capacity. Respectful care principles were repeatedly identified as a facilitator for Bundle implementation, specifically for patient awareness of preeclampsia complications and treatment adherence. Conclusions: Findings highlight the importance of community-engaged approaches. Further, clinic staff regarded Bundle implementation as crucial for the outpatient setting. Identified barriers suggest that strategies should address systemic social supports (i.e., transportation, childcare) and improve access to and use of home blood pressure monitoring. Identified facilitators support improving communication, increasing clinic champion engagement, enabling systems for identifying at-risk patients, and training staff on accurate blood pressure measurement. Green analytical chemistry has garnered significant interest given the heightened focus for organizations to decrease their environmental footprint. Of the analytical methodologies, those involving separation science (chromatography, extractions, crystallization, etc.) tend to be the most detrimental to the environment as they require large volumes of solvent. Chromatographic methods can be made significantly greener while preserving their performance by changing the mobile phase and method conditions. However, this process is laborious and involves significant analyst time for experimentation and method refinement. Herein, we introduce in silico modeling and computer-assisted method development as a rapid, accurate, robust, and green technique to develop greener methods. For the first time, it is shown that the analytical method greenness score (AMGS) can be mapped across the entire separation landscape. This allows for methods to be developed based off their performance and greenness simultaneously. Given the increased scrutiny of fluorinated solvents, the utility of in silico modeling is demonstrated to move from a fluorinated mobile phase additive to an alternative chlorinated additive. Here, the AMGS is reduced from 9.46 to 4.49 while critical pairs go from fully overlapped to having a resolution of 1.40. Acetonitrile is also shown to be replaced in the mobile phase with environmentally friendlier methanol to reduce the AMGS from 7.79 to 5.09 while preserving the critical resolution. Finally, we demonstrate the use of a resolution map to capitalize on peak crossover and increase the loading of an active pharmaceutical ingredient by 2.5× in a preparative chromatography setting. This results in 2.5× less replicates needed during the purification. Background: The reformulation of commonly consumed foods towards less sugar, fat, and salt is an important public health strategy to improve food choices of consumers and thus address the high prevalence of overweight and obesity. Front-of-pack nutrition labels like the Nutri-Score may drive reformulation and support nutritionally favourable food choices. Breakfast cereals are of special interest in that they tend to be high in sugar and are relatively often targeted at children. This study therefore aimed to evaluate the German breakfast cereal market in terms of reformulation efforts and to what extent these would show in a better Nutri-Score. Methods: Using data from the German monitoring of packaged foods, changes in energy and nutrient content and the final nutritional score (FNS) of breakfast cereals, differentiated into children's and non-children's products, between 2019 (n = 888) and 2022 (n = 1473) were evaluated (Mann-Whitney test for two independent samples). Reformulation efforts were analysed in a subsample of paired products available in both years (n = 424). The Nutri-Score was calculated using the 2023 algorithm. Results: Sugar content of children's and non-children's breakfast cereals decreased by 25.5% (p < 0.001) and 8.7% (p < 0.001), respectively, while fat content increased (+ 32.0% (p < 0.001) and + 7.0% (p < 0.036)). Especially for children's breakfast cereals, the share of products with a 'green' (A or B) Nutri-Score was higher in 2022 than in 2019. At the same time, the share of less favourable breakfast cereals (Nutri-Score C-E) was higher for children's than for non-children's breakfast cereals in both years. For paired products, the FNS changed (positively or negatively) in 34.6% and concomitantly the Nutri-Score in 14.2% of cases. Products showing a better Nutri-Score were often reformulated in a way to just make it into the better class. Conclusion: Improvements in nutrient content and FNS of breakfast cereals in Germany were mainly driven by shifts in the product portfolio, not by reformulation of existing products. Hence, any benefit for public health would require that consumers switch to (newly introduced) breakfast cereals with a more favourable composition. Background/Objective: Weight loss is associated with reductions in resting energy expenditure (REE), which are impacted by changes in body composition following sleeve gastrectomy (SG). Current data regarding changes in measured REE (mREE) and metabolic adaptation in adolescents after SG are limited. We evaluated changes in mREE, metabolic adaptation, and body composition in youths after SG vs. non-surgical (NS) controls over two years. Methods: Youths 14–22 years old undergoing SG (n = 24) and NS controls with severe obesity (n = 28) were recruited. mREE was determined using indirect calorimetry. Predicted REE (pREE) was calculated using regression equation derived from baseline data of our cohort and used to calculate pREE at follow up. Metabolic adaptation was calculated as mREE − pREE. We normalized REE to fat-free mass (FFM) and total body weight (TBW). Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry was used to measure body composition. Measurements were performed at baseline and two-years. Results: Baseline age, sex, and BMI were similar between groups. Greater decreases in BMI in SG vs. NS (−12.4 (−14.4, −9.8) vs. 2.2 (0.3, 3.5) kg/m2, p < 0.0001) and within-group decreases in mREE (401.0 ± 69.5 kcal/d; p < 0.0001) in SG were seen. mREE/FFM decreased within the SG group (p = 0.006), the two-year change in mREE/FFM and mREE/TBW did not differ between groups (p = 0.14 and 0.24). There was no metabolic adaptation within SG. Conclusions: Despite significant decreases in BMI after SG in youths, no metabolic adaptation was present at two years. This implies that by two years, metabolism has reached a steady state and weight changes after this should be addressed in an unbiased way. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper explores innovative approaches to reducing energy consumption in building ventilation systems through the implementation of adaptive control strategies. Using a publicly available high-resolution dataset spanning a full year, the study integrates real-time data on occupancy, CO2 levels, temperature, window state, and external environmental conditions. Notably, occupancy data derived from computer vision-based detection using the YOLOv5 algorithm provides an unprecedented level of granularity. The study evaluates five energy-saving strategies: Demand-Controlled Ventilation (DCV), occupancy-based control, time-based off-peak reduction, window-open control, and temperature-based control. Among these, the occupancy-based strategy achieved the highest energy savings, reducing power consumption by 50%, while temperature-based control yielded a significant 37.27% reduction. This paper's originality lies in its holistic analysis of multiple dynamic control strategies, integrating diverse environmental and operational variables rarely combined in prior research. The findings highlight the transformative potential of integrating real-time environmental data and advanced control algorithms to optimize HVAC performance. This study establishes a new benchmark for energy-efficient building management through offering practical recommendations and laying the groundwork for predictive models, renewable energy integration, and occupant-centric systems. This study evaluates the performance of 15 machine learning models for predicting energy consumption (30–100 kWh/m2·year) and occupant dissatisfaction (Percentage of Dissatisfied, PPD: 6–90%), key metrics for optimizing building performance. Ten evaluation metrics, including Mean Absolute Error (MAE, average prediction error), Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE, penalizing large errors), and the coefficient of determination (R2, variance explained by the model), are used. XGBoost achieves the highest accuracy, with an energy MAE of 1.55 kWh/m2·year and a PPD MAE of 3.14%, alongside R2 values of 0.99 and 0.97, respectively. While these metrics highlight XGBoost's superiority, its margin of improvement over LightGBM (energy MAE: 2.35 kWh/m2·year, PPD MAE: 3.89%) is context-dependent, suggesting its application in high-precision scenarios. ANN excelled at PPD predictions, achieving the lowest MAE (1.55%) and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE: 4.97%), demonstrating its ability to model complex nonlinear relationships. This nonlinear modeling advantage contrasts with LightGBM's balance of speed and accuracy, making it suitable for computationally constrained tasks. In contrast, traditional models like linear regression and KNN exhibit high errors (e.g., energy MAE: 17.56 kWh/m2·year, PPD MAE: 17.89%), underscoring their limitations with respect to capturing the complexities of building performance datasets. The results indicate that advanced methods like XGBoost and ANN are particularly effective owing to their ability to model intricate relationships and manage high-dimensional data. Future research should validate these findings with diverse real-world datasets, including those representing varying building types and climates. Hybrid models combining the interpretability of linear methods with the precision of ensemble or neural models should be explored. Additionally, integrating these machine learning techniques with digital twin platforms could address real-time optimization challenges, including dynamic occupant behavior and time-dependent energy consumption. This study presents a framework for integrating digital twins and knowledge graphs to enhance heritage building conservation, addressing challenges in environmental stress management, material degradation, and structural integrity while preserving historical authenticity. Using validated synthetic data, the framework enables real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and emergency response through a digital twin connected to a knowledge graph. Four scenarios were simulated to evaluate system performance: high humidity exceeding a 75% threshold triggered alerts for limestone maintenance; temperature fluctuations caused strain levels up to 0.009 units in load-bearing components at 35 °C, necessitating structural inspection; cumulative degradation monitoring projected re-plastering needs by month eight as the plaster degradation index approached 85%; and sudden impact events simulated emergency responses, with strain spikes over 0.004 units prompting real-time alerts within 2.5 s. Response times averaged 50 ms under normal conditions, peaking at 150 ms during high-frequency updates, showing robust Application Programming Interface (API) performance and data synchronization. SPARQL (SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language) queries within the knowledge graph facilitated proactive maintenance scheduling, reducing reactive interventions and supporting sustainable heritage conservation, especially suited to humid–temperate climates. This framework offers a novel, structured approach that bridges modern technology with heritage preservation needs, addressing both urgent conservation challenges and long-term sustainability to ensure the resilience of heritage buildings. Pollen–food allergy syndrome (PFAS), also known as oral allergy syndrome, is a common condition affecting individuals sensitized to pollens such as birch, ragweed, and grass. This syndrome arises from immunological cross-reactivity between pollen allergens and structurally similar proteins found in various fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Although typically presenting with mild oral and pharyngeal symptoms, PFAS can occasionally result in severe allergic reactions, underscoring its clinical significance. This review explores the pathophysiology of PFAS, highlighting the molecular mechanisms underlying cross-reactivity and examining the main protein families involved, including those contributing to variations in symptom severity. Current diagnostic approaches, including skin prick testing, specific immunoglobulin E measurements, and component-resolved diagnostics, are discussed. Emerging diagnostic tools and biomarkers with potential to enhance accuracy are also examined. Therapeutic strategies for PFAS primarily focus on symptom management and avoidance of trigger foods. However, novel approaches such as allergen immunotherapy and biologics targeting key immune pathways are gaining traction as potential interventions for more severe or refractory cases. Visible light communication (VLC) has recently gained significant attention due to its broad spectrum and advantages over radio frequency systems. VLC typically utilizes light-emitting diodes or laser diodes as a light source, which requires real and positive signals through intensity modulation and direct detection. Direct current-biased optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing is a common type of modulation used in VLC. However, this technique suffers from a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which causes clipping distortions at the light source. On the other hand, generalized frequency division multiplexing (GFDM) technology offers high flexibility, high spectrum efficiency, and less out-of-band and PAPR, making it a promising technology for VLC systems but at the cost of complexity. This study proposes a novel real-signal GFDM for VLC, eliminating the need for Hermitian symmetry to reduce computational complexity. This method aims to reduce computational complexity while maintaining system performance. It significantly reduces the required number of complex multiplication and addition by lowering the IFFT/FFT size to half compared to traditional methods. The new approach reduces the complexity and size of hardware and power consumption compared to the conventional DCO-GFDM, making it a more practical solution for the next communications generations. The study of prehabilitation and rehabilitation ([p]rehabilitation) to alleviate the sequelae of bladder cancer and its treatment has generated numerous opportunities to improve the quality of life of bladder cancer survivors. The authors conducted a scoping review of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) to identify knowledge gaps in and research directions for (p)rehabilitative support for those affected by bladder cancer. The authors systematically searched six databases and synthesized key findings from RCTs conducted from January 1, 2004, through March 15, 2022, that enrolled participants with bladder cancer, survivors, or caregivers in outpatient (p)rehabilitative programs (e.g., exercise, nutrition, or psychological support). Outcomes were characterized according to eight prespecified, clinically relevant categories. The search retrieved 10,968 records, 27 of which met the inclusion criteria, and 24 described unique RCTs with 2471 enrolled participants. Of 24 interventions, 17 (71%) yielded statistically significant results for the outcome of interest. Only one RCT included a cost‐effectiveness analysis, and only two characterized the efficacy of interventions for caregivers. Of 11 RCTs involving psychological support, eight yielded statistically significant results, as did nine of 11 RCTs with physical exercise interventions, three of four RCTs with educational interventions, three of four RCTs with nutritional support interventions, one of two RCTs with pharmacologic medications, and zero of one RCT with physical therapy. The most promising interventions for inclusion in multimodal, personalized (p)rehabilitation programs included exercise, stress management training, cognitive training, smoking and alcohol cessation counseling, immunonutrition, stoma education, and penile rehabilitation. Further studies of the cost effectiveness and efficacy for caregivers of such interventions are needed. Plain Language Summary: In a scoping review of all randomized clinical trials involving prehabilitative or rehabilitative diet, exercise, and psychological support interventions for patients with bladder cancer, survivors, and their caregivers, 17 of 24 (71%) interventions yielded statistically significant improvements in the outcome of interest.Clinicians should consider implementing such interventions for those affected by bladder cancer. Purpose: To report a single‐institutional experience with hypofractionated radiation therapy alone for human papillomavirus (HPV)‐positive oropharyngeal cancer. Methods and materials: A total of 101 consecutive patients were treated by radiation therapy alone using a regimen of 66 Gy in 30 fractions (60 patients) or 70 Gy in 33 fractions (41 patients) for newly diagnosed p16‐positive squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx. Sixty‐seven patients (67%) were never smokers. Results: The 3‐year actuarial rates of overall survival, local‐regional control, and progression‐free survival were 94%, 93%, and 89%, respectively. Among never‐smokers, the 3‐year rates of overall survival and local–regional control were 98% and 100%, respectively. The grade 3+ acute toxicity rate was 21%, with the most commonly observed side effects related to mucositis. Conclusion: Hypofractionated radiation alone resulted in excellent outcomes for patients with HPV‐positive oropharyngeal cancer. Background: Polypharmacy and low literacy increase medication self-administration errors (MSEs) among older adults, adversely affecting both patients and healthcare systems through increased costs and reduced treatment efficacy. Objectives: This study explored the reasons for MSEs among illiterate and low-literate older adults with polypharmacy from the perspective of older adults, informal family caregivers, physicians, and pharmacists. Method: The qualitative study used a conventional content analysis approach from September 2022 to April 2023. Purposeful sampling was used to recruit participants for interviews. Results: The study included fifteen older adults, five caregivers, four physicians, and seven pharmacists. Seven main categories were extracted: 1) Age-related physical and cognitive changes, 2) Medication Mismanagement, 3) Inhibitor beliefs of proper medication use, 4) Caregiving challenges, 5) Deficiency in effective communication and education, 6) Health systems inefficiencies, 7) The challenges of producing, dispensing and obtaining medications. Conclusion: The origins of MSEs encompass a broad spectrum of factors, ranging from individual to systemic levels. Successful interventions for reducing errors will be those that take into account all aspects of error occurrence and strive to minimize them through a holistic approach. The findings highlight the importance of improving organizational health literacy strategies for older adults with limited literacy. Amyloids are protein fibrils with a characteristic cross-β structure that is responsible for the unusual resistance of amyloids to various physical and chemical factors, as well as numerous pathogenic and functional consequences of amyloidogenesis. The greatest diversity of functional amyloids was identified in bacteria. The majority of bacterial amyloids are involved in virulence and pathogenesis either via facilitating formation of biofilms and adaptation of bacteria to colonization of a host organism or through direct regulation of toxicity. Recent studies have shown that, beside their commonly known activity, amyloids may be involved in the spatial regulation of proteome by modulating aggregation of other amyloidogenic proteins with multiple functional or pathological effects. Although the studies on the role of microbiome-produced amyloids in the development of amyloidoses in humans and animals have only been started, it is clear that humans as holobionts contain amyloids encoded not only by the host genome, but also by microorganisms that constitute the microbiome. Amyloids acquired from external sources (e.g., food) can interact with holobiont amyloids and modulate the effects of bacterial and host amyloids, thus adding another level of complexity to the holobiont-associated amyloid network. In this review, we described bacterial amyloids directly or indirectly involved in disease pathogenesis in humans and discussed the significance of bacterial amyloids in the three-component network of holobiont-associated amyloids. Methods and Materials: The statistical population of this correlational-descriptive study included all students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Humanities at the University of Wasit, Iraq, in 2023. From this population, a sample of 306 students (115 female students and 185 male students) was selected using a multi-stage cluster random sampling method. Data were collected through the Academic Performance Questionnaire (Pham & Taylor, 1999), Academic Self-Concept Questionnaire (Chen & Thompson, 2004), Academic Engagement Questionnaire (Reeve & Tseng, 2011), Academic Resilience Questionnaire (Samuels, 2006), Emotional Self-Regulation Questionnaire (Hoffman & Kashdan, 2010), and Self-Esteem Questionnaire (Rosenberg, 1965) and were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis. Findings: The findings of the study indicated that there was a significant positive relationship between all research variables and academic performance (P<0.001). Additionally, the results of the stepwise regression analysis showed that in four steps, academic engagement, self-esteem, academic resilience, and emotional selfregulation could collectively predict 72% of the variance in academic performance, with academic engagement having the highest predictive power at 63%. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, it is suggested that the policymakers of higher education at the University of Wasit prioritize the enhancement of academic engagement and the strengthening of personality and psychological variables such as self-esteem and self-regulation, as well as contextual factors such as academic self-concept and academic resilience, to empower students and advance educational goals and academic success. Despite increased efforts to ensure diversity in genomic research, the exclusion of minority groups from data analyses and publications remains a critical issue. This paper addresses the ethical implications of these exclusions and proposes accountability for reasonableness (A4R) as a framework to promote fairness and equity in research. Originally conceived by Norman Daniels and James Sabin to guide resource allocation in the context of health policy, A4R emphasizes publicity, relevance of reasons, enforcement, and revision as essential for legitimacy and trust in the decision‐making process. The authors argue that A4R is also relevant to resource allocation in research and that, if adequately informed and incentivized by funding agencies, institutional review boards, and scientific journals, researchers are well‐positioned to assess data‐selection justifications. The A4R framework provides a promising foundation for fostering accountability in genomics and other fields, including artificial intelligence, where lack of diversity and pervasive biases threaten equitable benefit sharing. Objectives Ganoderma lucidum (GL) is a white rot fungus widely used for its pharmacological properties and health benefits. GL consists of several biological components, including polysaccharides, sterols, and triterpenoids. Triterpenoids are often found in GL in the form of lanostane-type triterpenoids with quadrilateral carbon structures. Key findings The study revealed that triterpenoids have diverse biological properties and can be categorized based on their functional groups. Triterpenoids derived from GL have shown potential medicinal applications. In response to the escalating threats of cybersecurity attacks and breaches, ensuring the development and deployment of secure IT products has become paramount for organizations in their cybersecurity transformation. This work emphasizes the critical need for a comprehensive and secure IT project management life cycle that safeguards products from their initial development stages through decommissioning. The primary objective is to seamlessly integrate security considerations into every facet of IT project management life cycles. This work embraces a cyber-resilient IT project management framework and advocates the inclusion of cybersecurity measures in IT projects and their strategic, organized, continuous, and systematic integration throughout the entire product life cycle. It introduces a pioneering framework that harmonizes the cybersecurity risk management process with the IT project management life cycle. This framework delineates a methodical sequence of steps, each encompassing a distinct set of activities. The effectiveness and practical applicability of the proposed framework were validated through a comprehensive case study focused on the Personal Health Record (PHR) system. Biomass-derived carbon materials with tailored porosities are attracting significant attention for their promising application in microwave absorption owing to their inherent sustainability and unique structural characteristics. This work investigates the effect of porosity on the microwave adsorption of biomass-derived carbon. Microporous carbon with varying porosities was successfully prepared from green tea waste, and the porous microstructure was systematically modified, with surface areas ranging from ~ 470 to ~ 660 m2g−1, by carbonizing at various temperatures. Porous carbon with optimized porosity exhibits remarkable microwave absorption performance, achieving a minimum reflection loss of − 47.60 dB at a thickness of 2.2 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth (RL < − 10 dB) of 4.88 GHz. The practical viability of the material was further evaluated by computer simulation technology to simulate radar cross-section (RCS) analysis in real-world far-field scenarios. The results demonstrated that the simulated RCS values of optimum porous structure can reach lower than 20 dB, indicating their potential application in reducing the dispersion and reflection of radar waves. Allostery is an intriguing phenomenon wherein the binding activity of a biological macromolecule is modulated via non-canonical binding site, resulting in synchronized functional changes. The mechanics underlying allostery are relatively complex and this review is focused on common methodologies used to study allostery, such as X-ray crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, and HDXMS. Different methodological approaches are used to generate data in different scenarios. For example, X-ray crystallography provides high-resolution structural information, NMR spectroscopy offers dynamic insights into allosteric interactions in solution, and HDXMS provides information on protein dynamics. The residue transition state (RTS) approach has emerged as a critical tool in understanding the energetics and conformational changes associated with allosteric regulation. Allostery has significant implications in drug discovery, gene transcription, disease diagnosis, and enzyme catalysis. Enzymes' catalytic activity can be modulated by allosteric regulation, offering opportunities to develop novel therapeutic alternatives. Understanding allosteric mechanisms associated with infectious organisms like SARS-CoV and bacterial pathogens can aid in the development of new antiviral drugs and antibiotics. Allosteric mechanisms are crucial in the regulation of a variety of signal transduction and cell metabolism pathways, which in turn govern various cellular processes. Despite progress, challenges remain in identifying allosteric sites and characterizing their contribution to a variety of biological processes. Increased understanding of these mechanisms can help develop allosteric systems specifically designed to modulate key biological mechanisms, providing novel opportunities for the development of targeted therapeutics. Therefore, the current review aims to summarize common methodologies that are used to further our understanding of allosteric mechanisms. In conclusion, this review provides insights into the methodologies used for the study of allostery, its applications in in silico modeling, the mechanisms underlying antibody allostery, and the ongoing challenges and prospects in advancing our comprehension of this intriguing phenomenon. Background/Objectives: Smoking and hypertension are major contributors to cardiovascular diseases, with smoker hypertensives typically presenting with exacerbated health risks. These factors are associated with COVID-19 aggravation, but their cumulative impact in the context of this disease remains understudied. Our hypothesis was that hypertensive smokers display a more vulnerable health profile (versus non-smokers) upon hospital admission for COVID-19. Methods: This exploratory observational study compared the clinical profiles of hypertensive COVID-19 patients depending on their smoking status. Focusing on key cardiometabolic, blood, renal, hepatic, and inflammatory markers, this investigation included 100 hypertensive COVID-19 patients (50 smokers and 50 non-smokers) aged 50 and above. Logistic regression and Spearman's correlations were used to identify significant predictors and relationships among variables. Results: Hypertensive smokers with COVID-19 were significantly more likely to exhibit higher heart rate (p = 0.047), left atrial size (p = 0.013) and diameter (p = 0.040), left ventricular end-systolic volume (p = 0.036), and interventricular septal thickness (p ≤ 0.001). These patients were also much more prone to display elevated CRP (p = 0.035) and hemoglobin (p = 0.011). The renal profiles of the smokers and non-smokers differed, with the smokers showing a significantly greater likelihood to have high serum urea (p = 0.036), but normal-to-low serum potassium (p = 0.011) and sodium (p ≤ 0.001). Their lipid profile was less favorable, with higher triglycerides (p ≤ 0.001), but lower HDL (p = 0.008). The strongest predictors of smoking status were interventricular septal thickness, triglycerides, and serum sodium. Conclusions: Hypertensive smokers admitted to the hospital with COVID-19 tend to exhibit a more adverse clinical profile, particularly in terms of cardiovascular remodeling, lipid imbalances, renal profile, and inflammation. These findings suggest that smoking exacerbates the effects of hypertension in the context of COVID-19, highlighting the need for more aggressive monitoring and management in this patient group. Background/Objectives: Tranexamic acid (TXA) is a synthetic antifibrinolytic agent that inhibits plasminogen activation, thereby reducing bleeding. The aim of this systematic review was to investigate its role in aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)—a condition indicated by bleeding between two layers of brain tissue—to stop rebleeding and improve patient outcomes. Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials from 1981 to 2024, focusing on the efficacy and safety of TXA in treating aneurysmal SAH (PROSPERO registration: CRD42024504834). Our comprehensive search of the PubMed and Cochrane Library databases identified studies assessing TXA at dosages of 3 to 6 g per day and examining outcomes such as rebleeding incidence, mortality, thromboembolic events, and other adverse effects. Results: From six included studies involving 2990 patients, the meta-analysis showed TXA largely lowered rebleeding risk (OR 0.54 95% CI 0.43–0.68; p < 0.00001), yet mortality rates were not largely different between the TXA group (385 out of 1201), and the control group (344 out of 1193) (OR 1.18 95% CI 0.98–1.40; p = 0.07). Likewise, there were no large differences in the occurrence of cerebral ischemia and blood clot-related events between the groups. Conclusions: TXA effectively reduces the risk of rebleeding in SAH patients, but does not significantly alter mortality or the incidence of thromboembolic complications. Background/Objectives: Women's health represents an integral component of public health. With breast cancer being the first worldwide and cervical cancer the fourth most common cancer among women, and while habits of intimate hygiene remain mediocre, it is crucial to address these issues. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a community-based intervention on the knowledge and preventive measures (K&P) of women toward breast cancer, cervical cancer, and intimate hygiene. Methods: This longitudinal multicentric prospective interventional study was conducted on women residing in Lebanon aged 18–83 years old. The awareness sessions took place either in person or online to address these three topics, covering the eight governorates of Lebanon. Our sample included women both from the general population and from Order of Malta Lebanon (OML)'s centers and mobile medical units. A stratified randomized sampling method was implemented using age and governorates. Women were interviewed before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the awareness session. The K&P score and the improvement post-intervention were represented in a function of all the study variables. A p ˂ 0.05 was found statistically significant. Results: A total of 657 women, with the majority being nonsmokers and having a bachelor's degree as their highest level of education, completed surveys before and after the intervention, showcasing a significant overall K&P mean score improvement of 50.48% in the pre- vs. post-test (an average score of 22.01 ± 5.95 over 38 (57.93% of correct answers) vs. 33.12 ± 3.41 over 38 (89.58% of correct answers), respectively, p < 0.001). A significant difference was also noted between pre- and post-test (p < 0.001) in each of the three topics individually, with improvements of 52.39% for breast cancer, 60.00% for cervical cancer, and 22.27% for intimate hygiene. Conclusions: National awareness campaigns are key to shedding light on breast and cervical cancer matters and improving women's reproductive health and intimate hygiene in Lebanon. Addressing the knowledge gaps and promoting early screening and healthy habits through national public health policies can empower women to protect their health and well-being. This study investigates the morphological impact of using three-dimensional (3D) printed custom implants in surgical hip reconstruction compared to the conventional bone graft and standard size implant methods. An amount of 16 patients at the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute who underwent hip reconstruction surgery for tumors involving the P2 pelvis region were selected using stratified sampling. Half of them were randomly selected to receive 3D-printed implants, and the other half were selected to receive standard implants with bone grafts. Six months post-surgery, computed tomography (CT) scans were used to identify the hip joint center of rotation and to measure greater the trochanter offset and acetabular inclination angle. These CT scans were also used to construct a 3D model of the pelvis for 3D measurements. The results show no significant differences in accuracy, using Student's t-test and Mann–Whitney U-test (p-value > 0.05), between the two methods for reconstructing the hip joint center of rotation or greater trochanter offset. However, 3D-printed implants showed statistically significant greater precision, using Student's t-test (p-value < 0.05), in reconstructing the acetabular inclination angle compared to the conventional bone graft and standard-sized off-the-shelf implants. This superior precision reduces the risk of impingement of the femur implant neck with the acetabulum implant cup, which directly relates to improved implant survivorship. Background: Numerous studies have established a correlation between the Mediterranean diet and a reduced risk of breast cancer, as well as its efficacy in supporting weight management. Notably, obesity is widely recognized as a significant risk factor for the development of breast cancer. The Mediterranean diet has been shown to improve health outcomes among overweight or obese breast cancer survivors. This narrative review aims to consolidate information on the existing research interventions elucidating the benefits of the Mediterranean diet for the overall health of breast cancer survivors. Methods: Using the search terms "Mediterranean diet" and "breast cancer survivor", a total of 44 articles were identified. This review focuses on the six articles meeting the inclusion criteria, examining impacts on various health outcomes such as weight loss, quality of life, and various metabolic parameters (e.g., triglycerides, BMI, fasting glucose). Results: Most of the intervention studies examined weight loss and metabolic parameters including BMI and fat mass. The research results indicate that the Mediterranean diet effectively reduces BMI, waist circumference, and fat mass. Moreover, the data suggest that this dietary approach may support attaining a healthier BMI in overweight or obese breast cancer survivors. The data from various studies show no statistically significant findings for high-density lipoprotein, low-density lipoprotein, and total cholesterol levels. The assessment of quality of life varied across the studies, leading to challenges in reaching definitive conclusions. Conclusions: This narrative review offers a comprehensive overview of the impact of the Mediterranean diet on the health outcomes of breast cancer survivors who are overweight or obese. Background: A growing body of evidence links a high-fructose diet (HFrD) to metabolic disturbances, including inflammation, dyslipidemia, insulin resistance and also endothelial dysfunction, yet its role in allergic asthma remains underexplored. Considering that obesity and hypercholesterolemia exacerbate asthma by promoting systemic inflammation, investigating interventions with dual metabolic and anti-inflammatory effects is essential. This study aimed to evaluate the potential modulatory effects of rosuvastatin in ameliorating the effects of HFrD-induced metabolic and vascular dysfunction in the context of allergic asthma. Methods: Forty-eight Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to eight groups, receiving either a standard or HFrD for 12 weeks. Allergic asthma was induced using an ovalbumin sensitization and challenge protocol, while controls were administered saline. Selected groups were treated with rosuvastatin throughout the entire duration of the experiment. Body weight, abdominal circumference and serum biomarkers were assessed at baseline, 6 and 12 weeks. Endothelial function was assessed by evaluating vascular reactivity in an isolated organ bath. Additionally, histopathological analyses of aortic and pulmonary tissues were conducted to investigate inflammatory responses and morphological changes. Results: Rats on HFrDs exhibited significant increases in body weight, abdominal circumference, lipid profiles and blood glucose, which were further aggravated by allergic asthma. Rosuvastatin treatment notably reduced lipid levels, C-reactive protein and immunoglobulin E, while also enhancing vascular reactivity and attenuating aortic and bronchial wall thickening. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that rosuvastatin may serve as an effective therapeutic agent for addressing vascular and inflammatory complications associated with a high fructose intake and allergic asthma. TV viewing is associated with health risks, but existing measures of TV viewing are imprecise due to relying on self-report. We developed the Family Level Assessment of Screen use in the Home (FLASH)-TV, a machine learning pipeline with state-of-the-art computer vision methods to measure children's TV viewing. In three studies, lab pilot (n = 10), lab validation (n = 30), and home validation (n = 20), we tested the validity of FLASH-TV 3.0 in task-based protocols which included video observations of children for 60 min. To establish a gold-standard to compare FLASH-TV output, the videos were labeled by trained staff at 5-second epochs for whenever the child watched TV. For the combined sample with valid data (n = 59), FLASH-TV 3.0 provided a mean 85% (SD 8%) accuracy, 80% (SD 17%) sensitivity, 86% (SD 8%) specificity, and 0.71 (SD 0.15) kappa, compared to gold-standard. The mean intra-class correlation (ICC) of child's TV viewing durations of FLASH-TV 3.0 to gold-standard was 0.86. Overall, FLASH-TV 3.0 correlated well with the gold standard across a diverse sample of children, but with higher variability among Black children than others. Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are instrumental in various modern applications, such as environmental monitoring and data collection. However, prolonging their lifespan and optimizing data transmission pose considerable challenges. This study introduces ARZSEP (Angle-based Routing in Zone-based SEP), a novel heterogeneous routing protocol aimed at addressing these challenges. ARZSEP optimizes resource allocation by employing angle-based zone formation, which categorizes sensor nodes based on angular coordinates relative to a central sink node. This approach effectively minimizes energy consumption during data transmission and enhances Cluster Head selection for data aggregation. The energy efficiency of ARZSEP is underpinned by a comprehensive model that takes into account distance-dependent energy dissipation, node types, and data packet size. Additionally, adaptive routing dynamically selects efficient routes based on real-time energy metrics, ensuring optimal data relay. ARZSEP builds on the foundation of ZSEP (Zone-based Stable Election Protocol), which optimizes energy consumption by dividing the network into zones and selecting cluster heads based on node energy levels within each zone. Through MATLAB simulations, ARZSEP's superiority over other protocols is demonstrated, showcasing significant improvements in various metrics. Specifically, ARZSEP achieved a Cumulative Packets Transmitted to BS of 222,045 bits and extended the Network Lifetime to 3821 rounds, among other notable results. Overall, ARZSEP contributes to extending the operational lifespan of WSNs, improving data routing efficiency, and optimizing energy usage. The proposed protocol shows improvements in the time for the first node to die by 104.4%, 49.4%, and 36.7%; the time for half the nodes to die by 62.8%, 33.0%, and 0.8%; and the time for all nodes to die by 20.7%, 26.1%, and 7.5%, compared to LEACH, SEP, and ZSEP respectively. Stress granules (SG) are membraneless ribonucleoprotein-based cytoplasmic organelles that assemble in response to stress. Their formation is often associated with an almost global suppression of translation, and the aberrant assembly or disassembly of these granules has pathological implications in neurodegeneration and cancer. In cancer, and particularly in the presence of oncogenic KRAS mutations, in vivo studies concluded that SG increase the resistance of cancer cells to stress. Hence, SG have recently been considered a promising target for therapy. Here, starting from our observations that genes coding for SG proteins are stimulated during development of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, we analyze the formation of SG during tumorigenesis. We resort to in vitro, in vivo and in silico approaches, using mouse models, human samples and human data. Our analyses do not support that SG are formed during tumorigenesis of KRAS-driven cancers, at least that their presence is not universal, leading us to propose that caution is required before considering SG as therapeutic targets. Synopsis: Despite higher levels of mRNA encoding SG proteins during pancreatic tumorigenesis, this study finds no SG formation in Kras-driven cancers. This suggests that SG may not be a universal therapeutic cancer target. Stress granules (SG) were not detected in Kras-driven lesions in mouse models or in human PDAC samples. Tropomyosin 3 (TPM3) plays a significant role as a regulatory protein in muscle contraction, affecting the growth and development of skeletal muscles. Despite its importance, limited research has been conducted to investigate the influence of TPM3 on bovine skeletal muscle development. Therefore, this study revealed the role of TPM3 in bovine myoblast growth and development. This research involved conducting a thorough examination of the Qinchuan cattle TPM3 gene using bioinformatics tools to examine its sequence and structural characteristics. Furthermore, TPM3 expression was evaluated in various bovine tissues and cells using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR). The results showed that the coding region of TPM3 spans 855 bp, with the 161st base being the T base, encoding a protein with 284 amino acids and 19 phosphorylation sites. This protein demonstrated high conservation across species while displaying a predominant α-helix secondary structure despite being an unstable acidic protein. Notably, a noticeable increase in TPM3 expression was observed in the longissimus dorsi muscle and myocardium of calves and adult cattle. Expression patterns varied during different stages of myoblast differentiation. Functional studies that involved interference with TPM3 in Qinchuan cattle myoblasts revealed a very significantly decrease in S-phase cell numbers and EdU-positive staining (P < 0.01), and disrupted myotube morphology. Moreover, interference with TPM3 resulted in significantly (P < 0.05) or highly significantly (P < 0.01) decreased mRNA and protein levels of key proliferation and differentiation markers, indicating its role in the modulation of myoblast behavior. These findings suggest that TPM3 plays an essential role in bovine skeletal muscle growth by influencing myoblast proliferation and differentiation. This study provides a foundation for further exploration into the mechanisms underlying TPM3-mediated regulation of bovine muscle development and provides valuable insights that could guide future research directions as well as potential applications for livestock breeding and addressing muscle-related disorders. The article discusses the outcomes and impact of an advanced clinical ultrasound track in an emergency medicine residency program. The study describes the implementation of the track and its effects on residents' post-graduation academic career choices. Results show that residents in the ultrasound track performed more ultrasound studies compared to non-track residents, and a higher percentage of track graduates pursued academic careers or entered fellowships. Background: Stigma is a relevant aspect of Parkinson's disease (PD). Specific stigma tools are needed to address the complex construct of stigma in PD comprehensively. Objective: To test the dimensionality and psychometric properties of the newly developed Parkinson's Disease Stigma Questionnaire (PDStigmaQuest). Methods: In this multi-center, cross-sectional study including PD patients and healthy controls, the dimensionality of the PDStigmaQuest was examined through exploratory factor analysis. Acceptability and psychometric properties were investigated. PDStigmaQuest scores of patients and healthy controls were compared. Results: In total, 201 PD patients and 101 healthy controls were included in the final analysis. Results suggested high data quality of the PDStigmaQuest (0.0001% missing data for patients). The exploratory factor analysis produced four factors: felt stigma, hiding, enacted stigma: rejection, and enacted stigma: patronization, explaining 47.9% of variance. An optional work domain for employed patients was included. Moderate floor effects and skewness, but no ceiling effects were found. Cronbach's alpha of 0.85 indicated high internal consistency. Calculated item-total correlations met standard criteria. Test-retest reliability was high (rs = 0.83). PDStigmaQuest scores correlated significantly with other stigma measures (rs = 0.56–0.69) and were significantly higher in patients than in healthy controls and higher in patients with depressive symptoms than in those without. Conclusions: The patient-reported 18-item PDStigmaQuest showed strong psychometric properties of validity and reliability. Our results suggest that the PDStigmaQuest can be used to assess and evaluate stigma comprehensively in PD, which will improve our understanding of the construct of PD stigma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: RSV is a common seasonal cause of respiratory infections in children and potentially adults and is considered a major cause of mortality and morbidity. While several studies on RSV have been conducted in Saudi Arabia, none have specifically focused on the southwestern region, where distinct climatic and demographic factors may influence RSV pattern. The current study aims to describe five years of experience with RSV cases among hospitalized patients and factors associated with intensive care admission from a tertiary hospital. Materials and Methods: The study adopts a retrospective observational design, focusing on suspected respiratory infection cases confirmed by rapid RSV antigen tests from 2015 to 2020. Data including age, sex, comorbidities, and outcomes were collected from a tertiary hospital's medical records and microbiology laboratory files. Data were analyzed using a t-test and chi-square test. Results: Among 195 participants, primarily pediatric, monthly, and yearly admissions varied. Monthly variations revealed a U-shaped pattern with most cases reported during January, with a decline in 2020. Oxygen support was required for 40% of cases, and comorbidities were observed in 49.23%. Associations between ICU admission and factors like age, gestational age, ventilation, comorbidities, and length of stay were significant. Conclusion: RSV infection is one of the important causes of morbidity and intensive care admission among infants and young children in Saudi Arabia. As reported by others, the seasonality of RSV is evident. Despite higher prevalence in a younger population, physicians should consider RSV in adults and older patients. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) education is essential for preparing engineering students to maintain safety standards and prevent workplace hazards. Traditional learning resources, such as textbooks, can be time‐consuming and inadequate for immediate, context‐specific queries. Advanced AI chatbots offer interactive and immediate feedback, but they often lack specificity and depend on users' prompting skills, which not all students possess. This study introduces "Genie‐on‐Demand," a custom AI chatbot designed to address students' queries with precise, curriculum‐aligned responses. Educators can train the chatbot using specific learning materials by uploading PDFs, ensuring relevant and accurate answers. A quasi‐experimental study was conducted with 106 electrical engineering students divided into three groups: those using the custom chatbot, those using a conventional chatbot (ChatGPT), and those employing traditional learning methods. Results demonstrated that the custom chatbot significantly improved learning performance, self‐efficacy, and technology acceptance compared to other methods. Students reported increased confidence and effectiveness in using the custom chatbot as a learning assistant.
