Background: to analyze, at one year, the efficacy and safety of treat-and-extend (T&E) intravitreal (IV) Brolucizumab in patients affected by macular neovascularization (MNV). Both naïve and previously treated (i.e., switched) patients were included, and the data from the two groups were compared. Methods: anatomical (i.e., central subfoveal thickness, CST; presence of fluid), functional (i.e., best corrected visual acuity, BCVA) and treatment-related (i.e., number of IV injections within the study period; number of patients reaching a 12-weeks interval between treatments) data from 41 eyes of 41 subjects (20 naïve and 21 switched) were analyzed. Patients were treated with 3 monthly IV injections followed by a T&E regimen based on a disease activity assessment performed at each scheduled IV treatment. Results: significant CST reduction (from 412.1 ± 115.8 to 273.2 ± 61.6; p < 0.05) and BCVA (mean; p) improvement were observed in the naïve group, while in the switched cohort, both parameters were almost stable. In the naïve and switched groups, 55% and 33.5% of patients, respectively, reached a 12-week IV interval at one year, with a mean of 6.55 ± 1 and 7.43 ± 0.68 IV treatments, respectively. One patient with mild anterior uveitis without sequelae was recorded. Conclusion: In patients with MNV, IV Brolucizumab injections following a T&E regimen demonstrated great efficacy and a good safety profile, with greater anatomical and functional results in naïve patients. (Background) Over the years, there has been increasing interest in adopting a quality approach in radiology, leading to the strategic pursuit of specific and key performance indicators (KPIs). These indicators in radiology can have significant impacts ranging from radiation protection to integration into digital healthcare. (Purpose) This study aimed to conduct a narrative review on the integration of key performance indicators (KPIs) in radiology with specific key questions. (Methods) This review utilized a standardized checklist for narrative reviews, including the ANDJ Narrative Checklist, to ensure thoroughness and consistency. Searches were performed on PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar using a combination of keywords related to radiology and KPIs, with Boolean logic to refine results. From an initial yield of 211 studies, 127 were excluded due to a lack of focus on KPIs. The remaining 84 studies were assessed for clarity, design, and methodology, with 26 ultimately selected for detailed review. The evaluation process involved multiple assessors to minimize bias and ensure a rigorous analysis. (Results and Discussion) This overview highlights the following: KPIs are crucial for advancing radiology by supporting the evolution of imaging technologies (e.g., CT, MRI) and integrating emerging technologies like AI and AR/VR. Simple Summary: Conventional closed face masks (CFMs) are used in radiotherapy for head and neck cancer (HNC) and brain cancer (BC) but can cause discomfort and anxiety, affecting the patient experience. Recently, open-face masks (OFMs) have been introduced as an alternative. This study reviews and explores the application and use of OFMs in the treatment of HNC and BC, analyzing 19 relevant studies. The analysis shows heterogeneity in the type of OFMs used, especially in BC. In some cases, they are used alone, while in others, they are combined with complementary devices such as mouth bites. For both treatment sites, the review shows that OFMs, especially in combination with surface-guided radiotherapy (SGRT), offer significant advantages in terms of patient comfort and positioning accuracy. The results suggest that OFMs can achieve sub-millimeter and sub-degree reproducibility, which supports their clinical integration. Introduction: The main goal of radiotherapy (RT) is to deliver a precise dose to the target while sparing the surrounding normal tissue and minimizing side effects. Appropriate patient immobilization is crucial, especially for head and neck cancer (HNC) and Brain Cancer (BC). Methods: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) extension for scoping reviews and the Arskey and O'Malley framework, an electronic search of EMBASE, PubMed, SCOPUS, and Web of Science was conducted to identify original studies reporting the use and description of OFMs in clinical practice up to April 2024. The inclusion criteria were English-language articles focusing on OFMs for HNC and BC patients undergoing RT. Results: Of 618 titles, 19 articles fulfilled the selection criteria. Most studies were comparative (n = 13) or observational (n = 6). The articles were categorized by treatment site, resulting in three groups: BC (n = 14, 68.4%), HNC (n = 4, 21.4%), and mixed (n = 2, 10.5%), which includes both BC and HNC. Of note, 82.4% (n = 16) of the included studies were published from 2020 onwards, emphasizing the recent adoption of OFM in clinical practice. Conclusions: The reviewed studies show that OFMs, in combination with SGRT, offer significant advantages in terms of patient comfort and positioning accuracy in HNC and BC treatments. Reproducibility in the sub-millimeter and sub-degree range can be achieved, which supports the use of OFMs in clinical practice. Purpose: We report the successful surgical treatment of a case of spontaneous complete anterior crystalline lens luxation in a patient affected by retinitis pigmentosa (RP), associated with elevated intraocular pressure and pupillary block. Additionally, we review the current literature regarding the association between ectopia lentis and RP. Case description: A 44-year-old female RP patient presented to our emergency department reporting severe ocular pain in her left eye (LE) and sickness. She had no history of ocular trauma and did not report systemic disorders. The best corrected visual acuity at presentation was 1/20 in her LE, the intraocular pressure was 60 mmHg, and slit lamp examination showed in her LE a complete dislocation of the lens in the anterior chamber, with mydriasis, atalamia, and a pupillary block. The patient had been administered intravenous mannitol 18% solution and dorzolamide–timolol eye drops and was hospitalized for urgent lens extraction. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography and ultrasound biomicroscopy were performed before surgery. Decompressive 23-gauge pars plana vitrectomy and phacoemulsification were performed, and the capsular bag was removed due to marked zonular weakness, with deferred intraocular lens implant. Conclusions: Acute angle closure glaucoma in patients with RP may be rarely caused by spontaneous anterior lens dislocation. To our knowledge, this is the first report of spontaneous anterior lens dislocation in an RP patient, documented through photographs, anterior segment optical coherence tomography, and ultrasound biomicroscopy. Optimizing work shifts in healthcare is crucial for maintaining high standards of service delivery and fostering professional development. Through the development of Skills Retention Monitoring (SRH), this research aims to enhance skill monitoring, workload management, and organizational performance. In this study, several key highlights emerged: (a) Introduction of the SRH tool: The SRH tool represents a resource-efficient solution that harnesses existing software infrastructure. A preliminary version, focusing on the radiographers' professional profile, was released, and after several months of use, it demonstrated effectiveness in optimizing work based on competency monitoring. (b) The SRH tool has thus demonstrated the capacity to generate actionable insights in the organizational context of radiographers. By generating weekly reports, the SRH tool streamlines activity management and optimizes resource allocation within healthcare settings. (c) Application of a Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing (CAWI) tool for pre-release feedback during a training event. Purpose: To report a case of macular hole and detachment occurring after the subretinal injection of Voretigene Neparvovec (VN) in a patient affected by atypical RPE65 retinal dystrophy with high myopia and its successful surgical management. Case description: We report a case of a 70-year-old man treated with VN in both eyes. The best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 0.7 LogMar in the right eye (RE) and 0.92 LogMar in the left eye (LE). Axial length was 29.60 mm in the RE and 30.28 mm in the LE. Both eyes were pseudophakic. In both eyes, fundus examination revealed high myopia, posterior staphyloma, and extended retinal atrophy areas at the posterior pole, circumscribing a central island of surviving retina. Both eyes were treated with VN subretinal injection, but a full-thickness macular hole and retinal detachment occurred in the LE three weeks after surgery. The patient underwent 23-gauge vitrectomy with internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling and the inverted flap technique with sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) 20% tamponade. Postoperative follow-up showed that the macular hole was closed and the BCVA was maintained. Conclusions: Our experience suggests that patients with atypical RPE65 retinal dystrophy and high myopia undergoing VN subretinal injection require careful management to minimize the risk of macular hole and detachment occurrence and promptly detect and address these potential complications. Over the past decade, the use of telehealth has garnered increasing attention. The focus on quality aspects has seen significant growth in tandem with the telehealth expansion. Having useful indicators in this area is becoming increasingly strategic for fully integrating the technology into the health domain. These indicators can help monitor and evaluate the quality of telehealth services, guiding improvements and ensuring that these digital solutions meet the necessary standards for effective healthcare delivery. The purpose of this study is to analyze Key performance indicators (KPIs) in telehealth within institutional websites and the scientific dissemination world by means of a narrative review. A narrative review was proposed with these two specific points of view based on a standardized checklist and a quality control procedure for including scientific papers in the analysis. Results from scientific studies emphasize KPIs such as patient outcomes, operational efficiency, technical reliability, and cost-effectiveness. These include measures like improvements in condition management, patient satisfaction, consultation numbers, waiting times, and cost savings. Background: To investigate anatomical and functional changes of the macula caused by epiretinal membrane (ERM) peeling procedures in patients with or without posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). Methods: This is a multicentric prospective observational study on thirty-seven (37) patients affected by symptomatic ERM who underwent 25-gauge pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), induction of a PVD (as needed) and peeling of both the internal limiting membrane (ILM) and ERM. Optical coherence tomography–angiography (OCT-A) (RS 3000, Nidek, Japan) and microperimetry (MP-3, Nidek, Japan) were performed; central retinal thickness (CRT), foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area and perimeter, vessel density and perfusion density, retinal sensitivity and fixation stability (as a total mean retinal sensitivity (MRS), and MRS in the ellipse area and bivariate contour ellipse area (BCEA)) were recorded at baseline and up to postoperative month 3. Results: Eyes were classified as having complete PVD (51.4%) or incomplete PVD (48.6%). At baseline, patients with incomplete PVD had worse best-corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA), total MRS, MRS in the ellipse area and BCEA, and higher CRT than patients with complete PVD. At month 3, the differences in BCDVA between the two groups remained statistically significant, with patients with incomplete PVD having worse results (difference: 0.199 logMAR, p < 0.001). The difference in the MRS in the ellipse area was statistically significant at month 3 (−3.378 Db, p = 0.035), with greater improvement in patients with complete PVD. Conclusions: Our study shows that patients with incomplete PVD have worse conditions at baseline than patients with complete PVD, and the differences in visual acuity and retinal sensitivity were maintained postoperatively. A narrative review has been proposed to delve into emerging themes within the integration of Virtual Reality in radiology by scrutinizing reviews gathered from PubMed and Scopus. Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is a widely used revascularization strategy for coronary artery disease. The choice between imaging-guided and physiology-guided PCI has been a subject of debate. This meta-analysis aims to systematically compare outcomes between imaging and physiology-guided PCI and management of intermediate coronary lesions (ICLs). Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted across major databases for studies published up to December 2023 following PRISMA guidelines. Seven eligible studies comparing imaging-guided and physiology-guided PCI were selected for the final analysis. Relevant outcome measures included major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), target vessel revascularization (TVR), target vessel failure (TVF), and target lesion revascularization (TLR). Subgroup analysis was performed for ICLs. Results: A total of 5701 patients were included in the meta-analysis. After a mean follow-up of 2.1 years, imaging-guided PCI was associated with lower rates of TVR compared to physiology-guided PCI (OR 0.70, 95% CI 0.52–0.95, p = 0.02); concerning MACE, TVF, and TLR, no differences were found. When the analysis was restricted to studies considering ICLs management, there were no differences between the two techniques. Meta regression analysis did not show any impact of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) presentation on MACE and TVR. Conclusions: The findings suggest that imaging-guided PCI may reduce the need for future revascularization of the target vessel compared to the functional-guided approach, and this result was not influenced by ACS presentation. Motivation Single-cell profiling has become a common practice to investigate the complexity of tissues, organs, and organisms. Recent technological advances are expanding our capabilities to profile various molecular layers beyond the transcriptome such as, but not limited to, the genome, the epigenome, and the proteome. Depending on the experimental procedure, these data can be obtained from separate assays or the very same cells. Yet, integration of more than two assays is currently not supported by the majority of the computational frameworks avaiable. Results We here propose a Multi-Omic data integration framework based on Wasserstein Generative Adversarial Networks suitable for the analysis of paired or unpaired data with a high number of modalities (>2). At the core of our strategy is a single network trained on all modalities together, limiting the computational burden when many molecular layers are evaluated. Purpose: To describe an atypical phenotypic pattern of late-onset retinitis pigmentosa (RP) due to the same specific c.425A>G (p.Tyr142Cys) heterozygous mutation in the cone–rod homeobox gene (CRX gene) in two unrelated Italian patients. Case 1: A 67-year-old woman (P.P.) was incidentally diagnosed with sector RP at the age of 50. The patient was initially asymptomatic and did not have any family history of retinal dystrophy. Fundus examination showed the presence of typical retinal pigmentary deposits with a peculiar pericentral/sector distribution. Genomic sequencing disclosed the missense mutation c.425A>G (p.Tyr142Cys) in the CRX gene. During the follow-up period of 7 years, the patient maintained good visual acuity and complained only of mild symptoms. Case 2: A 76-year-old man (P.E.) presented with nyctalopia and visual field constriction since the age of 50. Fundus examination showed the presence of retinal pigment deposits with a concentric pericentral and perimacular pattern. A full-field electroretinogram (ffERG) showed extinguished scotopic responses and reduced abnormal photopic and flicker cone responses. Genomic sequencing identified the same missense mutation, c.425A>G (p.Tyr142Cys), in the CRX gene. Similarly to the first case, during the whole follow-up of 7 years, the visual acuity remained stable, as did the visual field and the patient's symptoms. Conclusions: We report the first cases of late-onset retinitis pigmentosa related to a specific heterozygous CRX gene mutation in exon 4. In recent years, the landscape of diagnostic imaging has undergone a significant transformation with the emergence of home radiology, challenging the traditional paradigm. This shift, bringing diagnostic imaging directly to patients, has gained momentum and has been further accelerated by the global COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the increasing importance and convenience of decentralized healthcare services. This study aims to offer a nuanced understanding of the attitudes and experiences influencing the integration of in-home radiography into contemporary healthcare practices. The research methodology involves a survey administered through Computer-Aided Web Interviewing (CAWI) tools, enabling real-time engagement with a diverse cohort of medical radiology technicians in the health domain. A second CAWI tool is submitted to experts to assess their feedback on the methodology. The survey explores key themes, including perceived advantages and challenges associated with domiciliary imaging, its impact on patient care, and the technological intricacies specific to conducting radiologic procedures outside the conventional clinical environment. Findings from a sample of 26 medical radiology technicians (drawn from a larger pool of 186 respondents) highlight a spectrum of opinions and constructive feedback. Enthusiasm is evident for the potential of domiciliary imaging to enhance patient convenience and provide a more patient-centric approach to healthcare. The expanding role of technology assessment in telemedicine is the focus of this study. An umbrella review has been proposed to delve into emerging themes within telemedicine technology assessment by scrutinizing systematic reviews gathered from PubMed and Scopus. The proposed approach was based on a standard narrative checklist and a qualification process. The selection process identified 20 systematic reviews. The main findings underscore the transformative potential of telemedicine, emphasizing technology assessments focused on systematic evaluations, stakeholder engagement, societal impact recognition, targeted interventions, and structured frameworks. While offering valuable insights, the current studies highlight certain limitations that require attention. There is a need for the following: (I) First of all, a more focused approach, primarily centered on a process-centric, multidomain, and generalizable technology assessment (TA). The field of technology assessment in telemedicine is garnering increasing attention due to the widespread adoption of this discipline and its complex and heterogeneous system characteristics, making its application complex. As part of a national telemedicine project, the National Center for Innovative Technologies in Public Health at the Italian National Institute of Health played the role of promoting and utilizing technology assessment tools within partnership projects. This study aims to outline the design, development, and application of assessment methodologies within the telemedicine project proposed by the ISS team, utilizing a specific framework developed within the project. The sub-objectives include evaluating the proposed methodology's effectiveness and feasibility, gathering feedback for improvement, and assessing its impact on various project components. The study emphasizes the multifaceted nature of action domains and underscores the crucial role of technology assessments in telemedicine, highlighting its impact across diverse realms through iterative interaction cycles with project partners. Both the impact and the acceptance of the methodology have been assessed by means of specific computer-aided web interviewing (CAWI) tools. The proposed methodology received significant acceptance, providing valuable insights for refining future frameworks. The impact assessment revealed a consistent quality improvement trend in the project's products, evident in methodological consolidations. Purpose: To compare the efficacy and safety of a novel ophthalmic anesthetic, chloroprocaine 3% gel to tetracaine 0.5% eye drops in patients undergoing cataract surgery with phacoemulsification. Methods: This was a prospective, randomized, multicenter, active-controlled, masked-observer, parallel group competitive equivalence study. The study comprised 338 patients having routine cataract extraction by clear corneal phacoemulsification, randomized to receive 3 drops of chloroprocaine gel (n = 166) or tetracaine eye drops (n = 172) before surgery. The primary objective of the study was to assess the equivalence of chloroprocaine gel to tetracaine eye drops as proportion of patients with successful ocular surface anesthesia, without any supplementation just before intraocular lens implantation. Safety measurements were pain, irritation, burning, stinging, photophobia, and foreign body sensation, graded by the patient and objective ocular signs. Results: Equivalence was demonstrated, with a somewhat higher success rate of chloroprocaine gel: 152/166 (92.0%) chloroprocaine versus 153/172 (90.5%) tetracaine patients achieved ocular surface anesthesia with no supplementation. Difference in proportions was 1.5% confidence interval [95% CI: (−3.6 to 6.6)] and 90% CI fell within (−10 to 10). Mean onset of anesthesia was 1.35 ± 0.87 min for chloroprocaine and 1.57 ± 1.85 for tetracaine (P = 0.083). Mean duration of anesthesia was 21.57 ± 12.26 min for chloroprocaine and 22.04 ± 12.58 for tetracaine (P = 0.574). No treatment emergent adverse events related to chloroprocaine were reported and no relevant findings related to local tolerance or vital signs were observed in both arms. Conclusions: Results obtained from the present cataract study demonstrated that chloroprocaine 3% ophthalmic gel is safe and effective, representing a valid alternative in ocular topical anesthesia. Autophagy is an essential cellular homeostasis pathway initiated by multiple stimuli ranging from nutrient deprivation to viral infection, playing a key role in human health and disease. At present, a growing number of evidence suggests a role of autophagy as a primitive innate immune form of defense for eukaryotic cells, interacting with components of innate immune signaling pathways and regulating thymic selection, antigen presentation, cytokine production and T/NK cell homeostasis. In cancer, autophagy is intimately involved in the immunological control of tumor progression and response to therapy. However, very little is known about the role and impact of autophagy in T and NK cells, the main players in the active fight against infections and tumors. Important questions are emerging: what role does autophagy play on T/NK cells? Could its modulation lead to any advantages? Could specific targeting of autophagy on tumor cells (blocking) and T/NK cells (activation) be a new intervention strategy? In this review, we debate preclinical studies that have identified autophagy as a key regulator of immune responses by modulating the functions of different immune cells and discuss the redundancy or diversity among the subpopulations of both T and NK cells in physiologic context and in cancer. Intriguingly, there is a growing emphasis on research and innovation in AI, whereas aspects related to the integration of healthcare processes, such as regulation, acceptance, informed consent, and data security, receive comparatively less attention. The evolutionarily conserved target of rapamycin (TOR) serine/threonine kinase controls eukaryotic cell growth, metabolism and survival by integrating signals from the nutritional status and growth factors. TOR is the catalytic subunit of two distinct functional multiprotein complexes termed mTORC1 (mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1) and mTORC2, which phosphorylate a different set of substrates and display different physiological functions. Dysregulation of TOR signaling has been involved in the development and progression of several disease states including cancer and diabetes. Here, we highlight how genetic and biochemical studies in the model system Drosophila melanogaster have been crucial to identify the mTORC1 and mTORC2 signaling components and to dissect their function in cellular growth, in strict coordination with insulin signaling. In addition, we review new findings that involve Drosophila Golgi phosphoprotein 3 in regulating organ growth via Rheb-mediated activation of mTORC1 in line with an emerging role for the Golgi as a major hub for mTORC1 signaling. Ecological interactions are fundamental at the cellular scale, addressing the possibility of a description of cellular systems that uses language and principles of ecology. In this work, we use a minimal ecological approach that encompasses growth, adaptation and survival of cell populations to model cell metabolisms and competition under energetic constraints. As a proof-of-concept, we apply this general formulation to study the dynamics of the onset of a specific blood cancer—called Multiple Myeloma. We show that a minimal model describing antagonist cell populations competing for limited resources, as regulated by microenvironmental factors and internal cellular structures, reproduces patterns of Multiple Myeloma evolution, due to the uncontrolled proliferation of cancerous plasma cells within the bone marrow. The model is characterized by a class of regime shifts to more dissipative states for selectively advantaged malignant plasma cells, reflecting a breakdown of self-regulation in the bone marrow. The transition times obtained from the simulations range from years to decades consistently with clinical observations of survival times of patients. This irreversible dynamical behavior represents a possible description of the incurable nature of myelomas based on the ecological interactions between plasma cells and the microenvironment, embedded in a larger complex system. The use of ATP equivalent energy units in defining stocks and flows is a key to constructing an ecological model which reproduces the onset of myelomas as transitions between states of a system which reflects the energetics of plasma cells. This work provides a basis to construct more complex models representing myelomas, which can be compared with model ecosystems. Author summary: Ecological interactions at the scale of cell populations are important to understand the emergent behavior of complex biological systems as diseases. Despite the extensive knowledge of the molecular and cellular details of biomedical systems, understanding the mechanisms behind the onset of Multiple Myeloma and predicting its dynamic evolution is a challenge. For diseases characterized by recurrent patterns and non-genetic plasticity, it is not possible to eradicate the mechanism that sustains cancer onset and evolution, namely they are defined as incurable. This mechanism is not typical of blood cancer itself, being a general emergent behavior of ecological systems as determined by the complex interactions between system's elements and the environment. Unfolding the role of the competitive interaction between normal, cancerous cell populations and the micro-environment by quantifying the energetic constraints operating on them is of key relevance. Here, adopting an energetic approach, we show that it is possible to reproduce stylized patterns of Multiple Myeloma onset by means of a minimal stock-flow ecological model of competing normal and malignant plasma cell populations. The number of people with disabilities and frailties who need support and assistance is increasing. Assistive technologies (ATs) are increasingly playing a central role in supporting people with disabilities and frailties. The study investigated the impact of the ATs on the websites of the UN, UNICEF, and WHO in terms of proposed activities and actions. The methodology proposed was based on two points of view: (1) A formal process to directly select elements in the institutional webs of the UN, UNICEF, and WHO. (2) A formal process for a complementary literature narrative review based on an umbrella review of Pubmed and Scopus. A standard checklist and a qualification process were applied. The outcome reported 35 documents from the direct search on the web and 19 systematic reviews for the complimentary literature overview. The direct search returned documents related to initiatives focused on the following: The tailoring of the ATs to a person based on international guidelines and specific monitoring initiatives of the AT introduction/access based on surveys both at the population and system/government level with the publication of the data/metadata in an observatory. Dissemination initiatives of both the culture of ATs (e.g., catalog, guidelines, reports, congresses) and of recommendations. The literature overview contributed more specifically to the use and effectiveness of categories of ATs. Both direct research and the literature overview have shown a consistent growth in interest in ATs. The initiatives of the UN, UNICEF, and WHO have been consistent with the institutional role and aimed at improving the diffusion of ATs through capillary monitoring, which is not free from obstacles, and a diffusion of the culture and rational use of ATs. The narrative review shows also the important role of research in monitoring the development, use, and effectiveness of devices, strategies, and support of international institutional initiatives. Important initiatives have been launched internationally on AT in terms of monitoring, dissemination, and improvement in access. Background: The aim of this research was to see if a refractive enhanced monofocal IOL (Eyhance IOL, IOL Abbott Medical Optics, Inc., Santa Ana, CA, USA) can provide better intermediate vision in patients undergoing phaco-vitrectomy due to cataract and epiretinal macular membrane (ERM). Methods: A nonrandomized prospective observational comparative study enrolled patients affected by cataract and ERM undergoing phaco-vitrectomy. A follow up of 6 months was established. Corrected and uncorrected visual acuity of both monocular and binocular types were assessed regarding intermediate and far distances. The CATQUEST 9-SF questionnaire was administered preoperatively and at the last follow-up. Results: Twenty-three eyes of twenty-three patients were enrolled, with 11 in the enhanced monofocal group. The uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity after 6 months was not statistically different. Both monocular and binocular uncorrected intermediate visual acuity after 6 months were higher in the enhanced monofocal group (p < 0.001). The corrected intermediate visual acuity after 6 months was higher in the enhanced monofocal group (p = 0.01). The CATQUEST-9SF questionnaire showed significant differences in the variation between the preoperative condition and six-month postoperative results (p < 0.001). Conclusions: This refractive enhanced monofocal IOL can provide better intermediate vision compared to a standard monofocal IOL in patients undergoing phaco-vitrectomy due to cataracts and ERM. Mobile health (mHealth) has recently had significant advances in tele-dermatology (TD) thanks to the developments following the COVID-19 pandemic. This topic is very important, as telemedicine and mHealth, when applied to dermatology, could improve both the quality of healthcare for citizens and the workflow in the health domain. The proposed study was centered on the last three years. We conducted an overview on the opportunities, the perspectives, and the problems involved in TD integration with mHealth. The methodology of the narrative review was based on: (I) a search of PubMed and Scopus and (II) an eligibility assessment, using properly proposed parameters. The outcome of the study showed that during the COVID-19 pandemic, TD integration with mHealth advanced rapidly. This integration enabled the monitoring of dermatological problems and facilitated remote specialist visits, reducing face-to-face interactions. AI and mobile apps have empowered citizens to take an active role in their healthcare. This differs from other imaging sectors where information exchange is limited to professionals. The opportunities for TD in mHealth include improving service quality, streamlining healthcare processes, reducing costs, and providing more accessible care. It can be applied to various conditions, such as (but not limited to) acne, vitiligo, psoriasis, and skin cancers. Integration with AI and augmented reality (AR), as well as the use of wearable sensors, are anticipated as future developments. However, integrating TD with mHealth also brings about problems and challenges related to regulations, ethics, cybersecurity, data privacy, and device management. Assistive technologies are increasingly taking a leading role in supporting people with spinal cord injury (SCI). This narrative review of reviews intends to contribute by making a map point investigating the integration of ATs in SCI. The methodology of the review was based on: (I) a search of PubMed and Scopus and (II) an eligibility assessment using specific parameters. The outcome highlighted the following: -The evolution of ATs considered in the context of SCI, considering ATs as both products and/or services in standalone and/or networked devices, and as processes of delivery. -Innovative technologies could play an important role in improving the quality of life and in minimizing costs in healthcare. -The international scientific community has identified ATs as one of the six strategic development areas in SCI. Purpose: To describe the experience of our centre (Careggi University Hospital, Florence, Italy) in using a heads-up three-dimensional (3D) surgical viewing system in vitreoretinal surgery, making a comparison with the conventional microscope surgery. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data taken from 240 patients (240 eyes) with surgical macular diseases (macular hole and epiretinal membrane), retinal detachment or vitreous hemorrhage who underwent vitreoretinal surgeries, by means of the NGENUITY 3D Visualization System (Alcon Laboratories Inc., Fort Worth, TX, USA), in comparison with 210 patients (210 eyes) who underwent vitreoretinal surgeries performed using a conventional microscope. All surgeries were performed with standardized procedures by the same surgeons. We analyzed data over a follow-up period of 6 months, comparing the surgical outcomes (best-corrected visual acuity, anatomical success rate and postoperative complication rate) between the two groups. Results: the 3D group included 74 patients with retinal detachment, 78 with epiretinal membrane, 64 with macular hole and 24 with vitreous hemorrhage. There were no significant differences in the demographic and clinical characteristics between the 3D group and the conventional group. We found no significant differences in outcome measures at three and six months follow-up between the two groups (p-value ≥ 0.05 for all comparisons). Surgery durations were similar between the two groups. Conclusions: In our experience, a heads-up 3D surgical viewing system provided comparable functional and anatomical outcomes in comparison with conventional microscope surgery, proving to be a valuable tool for vitreoretinal surgery in the treatment of different retinal diseases. Noninfectious uveitis related to systemic inflammatory diseases represents a leading cause of blindness. Anti-TNFα agents are the first-line biologic therapy after traditional immunosuppressants, for ocular and systemic involvement. However, some patients fails anti-TNFα agents, due to primary inefficacy, loss of efficacy or adverse events. This systematic review summarizes evidence on the efficacy and safety of non-anti-TNFα biologics in adult patients with noninfectious uveitis associated with systemic inflammatory diseases. The systematic review of PubMed and Embase yielded 3663 records, from which 16 studies were included (13 non-controlled, 3 controlled trials). Most studies focused on Behçet's syndrome (BS) and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) and assessed the efficacy of tocilizumab (n = 11), rituximab (n = 3), secukinumab (n = 1), or anakinra/canakinumab (n = 1). A body of evidence supports the use of tocilizumab BS and JIA-associated uveitis, for improving visual acuity, reducing central macular thickness, inducing ocular remission, and sparing corticosteroids. Preliminary data suggest that rituximab may represent a valid alternative, particularly in JIA, while anakinra/canakinumab might play a role in BS-associated uveitis. The aim of this study is to examine chatbots in-depth, by mapping out their technological evolution, current usage, and potential applications, opportunities, and emerging problems within the health domain. The study examined three points of view. The first point of view traces the technological evolution of chatbots. The second point of view reports the fields of application of the chatbots, giving space to the expectations of use and the expected benefits from a cross-domain point of view, also affecting the health domain. The third and main point of view is that of the analysis of the state of use of chatbots in the health domain based on the scientific literature represented by systematic reviews. The overview identified the topics of greatest interest with the opportunities. The analysis revealed the need for initiatives that simultaneously evaluate multiple domains all together in a synergistic way. Concerted efforts to achieve this are recommended. It is also believed to monitor both the process of osmosis between other sectors and the health domain, as well as the chatbots that can create psychological and behavioural problems with an impact on the health domain. Purpose: To evaluate the anatomical and functional outcomes of endoresection and adjuvant ruthenium (Ru)-106 brachytherapy for uveal melanoma (UM). Methods: Retrospective case series of 15 UM patients (15 eyes) treated at our center (Careggi University Hospital, Florence). Results: Six patients (40%) were male and nine were female (60%). The mean age of patients at the time of treatment was 61.6 years (±19.41). The mean BCVA at baseline was 20/50. In all cases UM originated from the choroid. The mean tumor thickness at baseline was 7.14 mm (±2.05), and the mean largest basal diameter was 11.2 mm (±1.92). A concurrent retinal detachment was diagnosed in 11 patients (73.3%). Two patients (13.3%) showed vitreous seeding at baseline. Eleven patients (73.3%) were treated with primary endoresection, while four patients (26.7%) were treated with a "salvage endoresection" after primary treatment failure (previous radiation treatment). The mean follow-up time was 28.9 months (±10.6). Thirteen out of fifteen patients were alive and showed no evidence of local recurrence or distance metastasis at the last follow-up visit. The treatment achieved local control of the disease in 14 out of 15 cases (93.3%). In one case, the patient underwent enucleation for disease recurrence. The overall survival rate at the end of the follow-up was 93.3%. The mean BCVA at last follow-up visit was 20/40. Treatment was well tolerated, without significant complications. Conclusions: Endoresection and adjuvant Ru-106 brachytherapy is a valuable conservative option for selected UM patients and can be used both as a primary treatment and as a salvage therapy. It can control melanoma and avoid enucleation, reduce radiation-related complications, and provide tumor tissue for chromosomal analysis and prognostic testing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
