The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of exercise intensity on the proportion and rate of carbohydrate oxidation and glucoregulatory hormone responses during recovery from exercise. Six physically active participants completed 1 hr of low-intensity (LI; 50% lactate threshold) or moderate-intensity (MI; 100% lactate threshold) exercise on separate days following a randomized counterbalanced design. During exercise and for 6 hr of recovery, samples of expired air were collected to determine oxygen consumption, respiratory exchange ratio, energy expenditure, and substrate oxidation rates. Blood samples were also collected to measure glucoregulatory hormones (catecholamines, GH) and metabolites (glucose, free fatty acids, lactate, pH, and bicarbonate). During exercise, respiratory exchange ratio, energy expenditure, and the proportion and rate of carbohydrate (CHO) oxidation were higher during MI compared with LI. However, during recovery from MI, respiratory exchange ratio and the proportion and rate of CHO oxidation were lower than preexercise levels and corresponding LI. During exercise and early recovery, catecholamines and growth hormone were higher in MI than LI, and there was a trend for higher levels of free fatty acids in the early recovery from MI compared with LI. In summary, CHO oxidation during exercise increases with exercise intensity but there is a preference for CHO sparing (and fat oxidation) during recovery from MI exercise compared with LI exercise. This exercise intensity-dependent shift in substrate oxidation during recovery is explained, in part, by the pattern of change of key glucoregulatory hormones including catecholamines and growth hormone and plasma fatty acid concentrations. As more distributed energy resources become part of the demand-side infrastructure, quantifying their energy flexibility on a community scale is crucial. CityLearn v1 provided an environment for benchmarking control algorithms. However, there is no standardized environment utilizing realistic building-stock datasets for distributed energy resource control benchmarking without co-simulation or third-party frameworks. CityLearn v2 extends CityLearn v1 by providing a stand-alone simulation environment that leverages the End-Use Load Profiles for the U.S. Building Stock dataset to create grid-interactive communities for resilient, multi-agent, and objective control of distributed energy resources with dynamic occupant feedback. While the v1 environment used pre-simulated building thermal loads, the v2 environment uses data-driven thermal dynamics and eliminates the need for co-simulation with building energy performance software. This work details the v2 environment and provides application examples that use reinforcement learning control to manage battery energy storage system, vehicle-to-grid control, and thermal comfort during heat pump power modulation. Purpose: Given the sudden increase in plant investments across the manufacturing sector due to recent disruptions in the global supply chain caused by the COVID pandemic, the Ukraine/Russian war, ocean piracy incidents, and others, there is a need to strategically align the investments decisions with the overall business strategy. This study aims to establish whether strategic alignment enhances the effect of plant investments on operational performance. Design/methodology/approach: Using the fifth version of the Global Manufacturing Research Group (GMRG V) dataset, we employ a structural equation model (SEM) to establish the moderating role of strategic alignment in plant investments-operational performance relationships. Findings: The results suggest that strategic alignment enhances the positive effect of plant investments on operational performance, especially in cost, delivery, flexibility, and innovation. However, we found partial support for the moderating role of strategic alignment on quality performance. Research limitations/implications: Although the study was based on the GMRG global dataset and numerous papers have been published using the same dataset, the use of a convenience sample on a select group of companies may limit the generalizability of the results. With the increase in new plant investments in computer chip manufacturing, electronics, and electrical in recent years, the findings could help corporate executives maximize the benefits of their investment decisions. Companies should ensure that their plant investment decisions are strategically aligned with their overall business strategy to achieve optimal outcomes. Background: In the pursuit of sustainable energy sources, residual biomass has emerged as a promising renewable resource. However, efficiently managing residual biomass poses significant challenges, particularly in optimizing supply chain operations. Advanced modeling approaches are necessary to address these complexities. This study aims to develop a comprehensive methodological framework for creating simulation models tailored to agroforestry residual biomass supply chains. Methods: The study employs a hybrid simulation approach, integrating geographic information system mapping with a case study analysis. The simulation was conducted over a 365-day period, using the anyLogistix software (version 2.15.3.202209061204) to model various supply chain dynamics. The framework also accounts for financial, operational, customer satisfaction, and environmental metrics. Results: The simulation results showed a total expenditure of EUR 5,219,411.3, with transportation being the primary cost driver, involving 5678 trips and a peak capacity of 67.16 m3. CO2 emissions were measured at 487.7 kg/m3. The model performed as expected, highlighting the need for sustainable logistics strategies to reduce costs, lower losses, and improve productivity. Conclusions: This study presents one of the first detailed methodological frameworks for simulating agroforestry residual biomass supply chains. It provides valuable managerial insights into the financial, operational, and environmental aspects of supply chain management. As environmental sustainability gains importance, enhancing supply chains to minimize environmental hazards is essential, particularly in industries using residual biomass. This study tackles this by investigating the integration of sustainability criteria into supply chain optimization for a biomass energy company in Portugal, using a combination of simulation modeling through anyLogistix software (version: 2.15.3.202209061204) and multi-criteria decision-making. Four supply chain scenarios were designed and simulated, differing in their number of distribution centers, the adoption of green logistics, and split-by-ratio distribution strategies over a 305-day period. Through the weighted sum model, Scenario C emerged as the optimal configuration, achieving a balance between operational efficiency and sustainability by reducing CO2 emissions by up to 90% and lowering transportation costs without compromising revenue. Sensitivity analysis further highlighted the trade-offs between cost efficiency, lead times, and environmental impact, showing that the strategic placement of distribution centers and the use of eco-friendly vehicles significantly improve the sustainability of the biomass supply chain. These findings provide practical insights for decision-makers, demonstrating how digital modeling tools can enhance supply chain management by optimizing environmental and operational goals simultaneously. The mid-face has been rendered as the cornerstone of facial aesthetic improvement, since treating the mid-face has also beneficial effects on neighboring esthetic units and therefore should be one of the first areas to be assessed. Retaining ligaments (RL) bind soft tissue layers of the face to the underlying facial skeleton. It remains controversial whether RL suffers laxity with aging or if changes in 42 bone and other structures where ligaments are inserted lead to altered mechanical function of the latter. Enhancement of the supportive effect of the ligaments could help restore the soft tissues to their original anatomical positions and achieve a lifting effect. While injectable hyaluronic acid implants have been used to improve ligament support, calcium hydroxylapatite has one of the highest viscoelasticities when compared with other dermal fillers and can induce collagen synthesis, which could provide long-term laxity correction. In this preliminary report of a case series, our goal was to describe the use of calcium hydroxylapatite in different dilutions and combinations for different aging profiles to treat the midface as an alternative for hyaluronic acid injections and to describe the ultrasonographic behavior in the long run. Objective: Individual unsupervised home-based exercise programs can enhance muscle strength, physical function, gait, and balance in older adults. However, the effectiveness of such programs may be limited by the lack of supervision. This study aims to verify the effectiveness of individual unsupervised home-based programs, compare the effects of individual unsupervised home-based to supervised programs, and verify the influence of supervision over individual unsupervised home-based programs on the physical function of older adults. Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in four electronic databases, and the trials involved randomized controlled comparing the home-based programs to supervised, control groups, or home-based + supervised evaluating the muscle strength, physical function, gait, and balance in older adults. Results: Eleven studies met the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis revealed no differences between home-based program versus supervised program in gait, mobility, and balance, revealing a trend of significance to supervised program on strength (standardized mean difference [SMD] = 0.27, p =.05). The analysis revealed effects in mobility (SMD = 0.40, p =.003), balance (SMD = 0.58, p =.0002), and muscle strength (SMD = 0.36, p =.02) favoring home-based program versus control group. Significant effects between home-based program versus home-based + supervised program were observed in balance (SMD = 0.74, p =.002) and muscle strength (SMD = 0.58, p =.01) in favor of home-based + supervised program. Conclusion: Home-based programs effectively improve older adults' physical function compared with control groups. However, supervised programs were more effective for muscle strength. Hypotension is one of the main characteristics of the systemic inflammation, basically caused by endothelial dysfunction. Studies have shown that the amino acid L‐kynurenine (KYN) causes vasodilation in mammals, leading to hypotensive shock. In hypotensive shock, when activated by the KYN, the voltage‐gated potassium channel encoded by the family KCNQ (Kv7) gene can cause vasodilation. Fructose‐1,6‐bisphosphate (FBP) it is being considered in studies an anti‐inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulator, and a modulator of some ion channels (Ca2+, Na+, and K+). We analyzed the effects of KYN and FBP on mean blood pressure (MBP), systolic and diastolic (DBP) blood pressure, and heart rate variability (HRV) in Wistar rats. Results demonstrated that the administration of KYN significant decreased MBP, DBP, and increased HRV. Importantly, the FBP treatment reversed the KYN effects on MBP, DBP, and HRV. Molecular Docking Simulations suggested that KYN and FBP present a very close estimated free energy of binding and the same position into structure of KCNQ4. Our results did demonstrate that FBP blunted the decrease in BP, provoked by KYN. Results raise new hypotheses for future and studies in the treatment of hypotension resulting from inflammation. Construction delays are recurrent worldwide, regardless of the type of work, and can result in severe impacts, such as time and cost overruns and conflicts. This work aims to present a methodology to develop mitigation measures for the causes of Delays in Construction Projects (DCPs). Prior works have explored strategies to develop these measures but systematically failed to consider that the interrelationships among causes affect the significance of the impact of each cause. The methodology proposed combines the Interpretative Structural Modelling (ISM) and Matrix Cross Impact Matrix Multiplication (MICMAC) analyses approaches and is grounded on the opinions of construction experts collected during Focus Group Interviews (FGI). First, the critical causes of DCPs are identified. Second, the ISM model is built, representing the interrelationships between the causes and their hierarchy. Third, the MICMAC analysis is performed, revealing the strengths of the relationships among the influencing causes. Fourth, mitigation measures are developed to address the root causes identified in the previous steps, but they are designed to target and mitigate other causes, given their hierarchical relationships, driving power, and levels of dependence. Applying this methodology to the Portuguese context revealed 16 critical causes, which were then hierarchized into six levels of influence. Inadequate bidding and contract award processes and deficient communication between parties were deemed root causes, and 23 measures were put forward to mitigate DCPs. Therefore, this study contributes to the body of knowledge by designing an innovative and practitioner-wise methodology to develop mitigation measures in relation to DCPs and revealing some measures for the Portuguese context. The ceramic pastes of ca. 31 samples recovered from the Almaraz archaeological site, located in the south bench of Tagus River, were studied in detail using XRF, micro-Raman and GSDR spectroscopies, as well as the XRD technique. The ceramic sherds could be grouped into six categories, red slip tableware, decorated tableware, yellow slip tableware, grey tableware, common tableware, and handmade pottery. Our studies of the mineralogic composition of the sherds' body indicate all ceramics were produced locally, using siliceous clays in most cases and calcareous clays in a few ones. Micro-Raman and ground state diffuse reflectance absorption spectroscopy provided useful information regarding the materials used to produce the coloured ceramics: hematite and brookite for the red slip and decorated ceramics, jacobsite or carbon black for the black decoration or grey ceramics. For the yellow slip tableware, a simple engobe rich in yellow clay was used. XRF spectroscopic studies provided the elemental composition of all samples, and biplots of the potassium (K) versus calcium (Ca) contents, normalized to the silicon content of each ceramic paste, clearly show Pliocene and Miocene local clays sources were used to produce most ceramics. Background: Sarcopenia, a subject of extensive research, has led to numerous clinical trials and systematic reviews (SR). These reviews aid healthcare professionals by summarizing results and conducting meta-analyses, enhancing reliability. However, the abundance of reviews complicates decision-making on sarcopenia management. To address this, SR of SR have emerged, consolidating data from various sources into comprehensive documents. Objective: To assess the isolated impact of dietary interventions on sarcopenia's diagnostic criteria for older individuals. Methods: A study protocol for a SR of SR, following Cochrane and PRISMA recommendations. The search strategy includes the MeSH 'sarcopenia' and its subheadings; 'aged' and its subheadings; 'nutrition' and its subheadings; and filter 'systematic review', performed at main databases. Selected studies must include older adults, submitted to nutritional interventions compared to control groups. Quantitative analyses will use inverse variance statistic method (random effects); the effect measures mean difference. Heterogeneity measured with Q-Test. Results: The results of this SR of SR may provide valuable information about the sarcopenia treatment, deepening the knowledge about. Logistics and the supply chain are areas of great importance within organizations. Due to planning gaps, an increase in extra and unnecessary transport costs is usually observed in several companies due to their commercial commitments and need to comply with the delivery time and the batch quantity of products, leading to a negative economic impact. Thus, the objective of this work was to adjust an optimization model to maximize the shipments usually carried out by the companies. To validate the model, an automotive components manufacturer was selected, allowing us to apply the model to a real case study and evaluate the advantages and drawbacks of this tool. It was found that the company to validate the model exports most of its products, and most pallets sent are not fully optimized, generating excessive expense for the company in terms of urgent transport. To solve this problem, two mathematical optimization models were used for the company's current reality, optimizing the placement of boxes per pallet and customer. With the use of the new tool, it was possible to determine that five pallets should be sent to the customer weekly, which correspond to their needs, and that have the appropriate configurations so that the pallet is sent completely. The purpose of the study was to offer empirical evidence and insights into the advantages and obstacles linked with digital transformation in supply chain management. To investigate the effects of digital transformation on supply chain optimization, the research employs a hybrid methodology and comprehensive approach that includes a thorough literature review, the creation of a theoretical framework, and the presentation of empirical finings through various case studies using the predefined selection criteria. The case analyses highlight crucial elements that support effective digital transformations, including real-time data analytics, teamwork, blockchain technology, digital twin augmented and virtual reality and collaborative robots. The practical implications from the findings of this study, proffers insights that can be extremely helpful for professionals in various industrial sectors and businesses planning similar digital transformation journeys. This empirical study with regards to the implication of Digital transformation 5.0 on supply chain management is novel to the body of literature. It is however necessary to conduct more study to confirm the results, apply them to a wider range of businesses, and investigate different aspects of digital transformation in supply chain optimization. Supply chain risk management (SCRM) literature acknowledges that the choice of SCRM strategies should fit with contextual factors. Yet empirical support for this premise is scarce, mainly relies on just a single type of fit analysis, and lacks any consideration of organisational structures. Accordingly, this article combines two perspectives of fit analysis: 'fit as profile deviation' and 'fit as moderation'. The former supports the introduction of two concepts: risk management incoherence (RMI) and risk management efficacy (RME). Whereas RMI refers to the lack of fit between the perceived usefulness of different mitigation strategies and their degree of implementation; RME pertains to the fit between the perceived relevance of different SCRM objectives and the degree to which they are achieved. The latter allows us to posit a negative effect of RMI on RME and a negative moderation of the time assigned to a Risk Manager on that effect. A sample of 106 companies confirms the proposed model. The barbell squat is a multijoint exercise often employed by athletes and fitness enthusiasts due to its beneficial effects on functional and morphological neuromuscular adaptations. This study compared the effects of squat variations on lower limb muscle strength and hypertrophy adaptations. Twenty‐four recreationally trained females were assigned to a 12‐week front squat (FS; n = 12) or back squat (BS; n = 12) resistance training protocol (twice per week). Maximum dynamic strength (1‐RM) on the 45° leg press, a nonspecific strength test, and muscle thickness of the proximal, middle, and distal portions of the lateral thigh were assessed at baseline and post‐training. A significant time versus group interaction was observed for 1‐RM values (F(1,22) = 10.53; p = 0.0004), indicating that BS training elicits greater improvements in muscle strength compared with FS training (p = 0.048). No time versus group interactions were found for muscle thickness (F(1,22) = 0.103; p = 0.752); however, there was a significant main effect of time for the proximal (F(1,22) = 7.794; p = 0.011), middle (F(1,22) = 7.091; p = 0.014), and distal portions (F(1,22) = 7.220; p = 0.013) of the lateral thigh. There were no between‐group differences for any muscle thickness portion (proximal: p = 0.971; middle: p = 0.844; and distal: p = 0.510). Our findings suggest that BS elicits greater improvements in lower limb muscle strength on the 45° leg press than FS, but hypertrophic adaptations are similar regardless of variations during the squat exercise. In order to select for further development novel photosensitizers for photodynamic therapy in cutaneous disorders, three unsymmetrical porphyrins, namely 5-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tris-(4-acetoxy-3-methoxyphenyl) porphyrin (P2.2), 5-(2-hydroxy-5-methoxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tris-(4-carboxymethylphenyl) porphyrin (P3.2), and 5-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-10,15,20-tris-(4-acetoxy-3-methoxyphenyl) porphyrin (P4.2), along with their fully symmetrical counterparts 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(4-acetoxy-3-methoxyphenyl) porphyrin (P2.1) and 5,10,15,20-tetrakis-(4-carboxymethylphenyl) porphyrin (P3.1) were comparatively evaluated. The absorption and fluorescence properties, as well as atomic force microscopy measurements were performed to evaluate the photophysical characteristics as well as morphological and textural properties of the mentioned porphyrins. The cellular uptake of compounds and the effect of photodynamic therapy on the viability, proliferation, and necrosis of human HaCaT keratinocytes, human Hs27 skin fibroblasts, human skin SCL II squamous cell carcinoma, and B16F10 melanoma cells were assessed in vitro, in correlation with the structural and photophysical properties of the investigated porphyrins, and with the predictions regarding diffusion through cell membranes and ADMET properties. All samples were found to be isotropic and self-similar, with slightly different degrees of aggregability, had a relatively low predicted toxicity (class V), and a predicted long half-life after systemic administration. The in vitro study performed on non-malignant and malignant skin-relevant cells highlighted that the asymmetric P2.2 porphyrin qualified among the five investigated porphyrins to be a promising photosensitizer candidate for PDT in skin disorders. P2.2 was shown to accumulate well within cells, and induced by PDT a massive decrease in the number of metabolically active skin cells, partly due to cell death by necrosis. P2.2 had in this respect a better behavior than the symmetric P.2.1 compound and the related asymmetric compound P4.2. The strong action of P2.2-mediated PDT on normal skin cells might be an important drawback for further development of this compound. Meanwhile, the P3.1 and P3.2 compounds were not able to accumulate well in skin cells, and did not elicit significant PDT in vitro. Lentinula edodes, commonly known as shiitake mushroom, is renowned for its potential health advantages. This research delves into the often-overlooked by-product of shiitake cultivation, namely spent mushroom substrate (SMS), to explore its nutraceutical properties. The SMS samples were collected and subjected to different extraction methods, namely short or long agitation, and ultrasound-assisted extractions using different temperatures and distilled water or a 50% (v/v) ethanol as solvents. The extracts were tested for phenolic content (total phenols, ortho-diphenols, and flavonoids), antioxidant capacity (DPPH, 2,2-diphenyl-1 picrylhydrazyl; ABTS, 2,2'-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid; and FRAP, ferric reducing antioxidant power), and antibacterial activity. The different extraction methods revealed substantial variations (p < 0.05) in phenolic composition and antioxidant capacity. The highest phenolic content and antioxidant capacity were achieved using 24 h extraction, agitation, 50 °C, and ethanol as the solvent. Furthermore, the extracted compounds displayed antibacterial activity in specific tested bacterial strains. This study highlights the nutraceutical potential of L. edodes' SMS, positioning it as a valuable dietary supplement for animal nutrition, with emphasis on its prebiotic properties. This study delves into the effect of repeated low-velocity impacts on the residual tensile strength of composite laminates reinforced with E-glass/epoxy woven fabrics. The specimens underwent a series of low-velocity impacts, each delivering a constant energy of 4 J. Various parameters, such as maximum impact load, displacement, contact time, and absorbed energy, were examined. The residual tensile strength was subsequently analysed for each impact and compared to control specimens that experienced no impact. The results highlighted a significant decrease in residual tensile strength after the initial impact, whereas subsequent impacts exhibited a diminished effect until the puncture of the specimens occurred. The literature is not abundant with mechanical characterizations of cylindrical shells for civil engineering applications, especially in terms of impact response. In this context, this study intends to evaluate the impact response of cylindrical sandwich shells produced by various types of fibers. Analysis was performed on three alternative configurations: carbon fibers only, carbon fibers and glass, and carbon fibers and basalt. All configurations were tested for static and impact strength. It was concluded that the constituents of the cylindrical sandwich shells are determinants of both static and impact strength. In terms of compressive properties, the lowest displacement (4.4 mm) and highest compressive strength (873 N) and stiffness (354 N/mm) are attributed to configuration 6C. However, the incorporation of basalt fibers decreased these properties to the lowest values, and reductions of 22% and 44% were found for the compressive strength and stiffness, respectively, while the displacement increased by around 66%. On the other hand, in terms of impact, significant benefits were achieved with the introduction of glass fibers. Compared with configurations 6C and 2C+2B+2C, for instance, the elastic recuperation was 25% and 64.6% higher, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While the number of deployed IoT devices increases annually, they still present severe cyber-security vulnerabilities, becoming potential targets and entry points for further attacks. As these nodes become compromised, attackers aim to set up stealthy communication behaviours, to exfiltrate data or to orchestrate nodes in a cloaked fashion, and network timing covert channels are increasingly being used with such malicious intents. The IEEE 802.15.4 is one of the most pervasive protocols in IoT and a fundamental part of many communication infrastructures. Despite this fact, the possibility of setting up such covert communication techniques on this medium has received very little attention. We aim to analyse the performance and feasibility of such covert-channel implementations upon the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol, particularly upon the DSME behaviour, one of the most promising for large-scale time critical communications. This enables us to better understand the involved risk of such threats and help support the development of active cyber-security mechanisms to mitigate these threats, which, for now, we provide in the form of practical network setup recommendations. The effect of the interface stiffness and interface strength on the low-velocity impact response of woven-fabric semicylindrical composite shells is studied using finite element (FE) models generated with continuum shell elements and cohesive surfaces. The intralaminar damage is accounted for using the constitutive model provided within the ABAQUS software, while the interlaminar is addressed utilising cohesive surfaces. The results show that the interface stiffness has a negligible effect on the force and energy histories for values between 10 1 N/mm 3 and 2.43 × 10 6 N/mm 3 . However, it has a significant impact on the delamination predictions. It is observed that only the normal interface strength affects the maximum impact force and the delamination predictions. Increasing its value from 15 MPa to 30 MPa resulted in an 8% growth in the maximum force, and a substantial reduction in the delaminated area. The obtained results serve as guidelines for the accurate and efficient computation of delamination. The successful validation of the FE models establishes a solid foundation for further numerical investigations and offers the potential to significantly reduce the time and expenses associated with experimental testing. Sarcopenia is one of the several syndromes that affect older adults individuals, being a growing area in the number of scientific productions. To compare the presence of sarcopenia among sedentary and active older adults, practitioners of different models of physical training. 115 individuals, aged 60 years or older, were evaluated for the presence of sarcopenia, according to the recommendations of the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People. The subjects were divided into 3 groups: a group of 47 sedentary older adults (CON), a group with 30 older adults practicing physical training with emphasis on resistance (RES), and a group of 38 older adults practicing physical training with aerobic emphasis (AER). Individuals still responded to the Wide Geriatric Anamnesis. The prevalence of sarcopenia was lower in RES (p < 0.001). Of the sarcopenia indicators, the skeletal muscle mass was the only one that did not present significant difference. However, strength and performance showed a statistically significant difference in favor of the resistance group (p < 0.001 and p = 0.006, respectively). The total prevalence of sarcopenia was 37.4%, being 46.8% in CON, 6.6% in RES and 37.3% in AER. Resistance training is effective on the counterattack and control of sarcopenia among the subjects assessed, with no difference in the presence of sarcopenia among training practitioners with emphasis aerobic, or sedentary. This paper presents an efficient and reliable approach to study the low-velocity impact response of woven composite shells using 3D finite element models that account for the physical intralaminar and interlaminar progressive damage. The authors' previous work on the experimental assessment of the effect of thickness on the impact response of semicylindrical composite laminated shells served as the basis for this paper. Therefore, the finite element models were put to the test in comparison to the experimental findings. A good agreement was obtained between the numerical predictions and experimental data for the load and energy histories as well as for the maximum impact load, maximum displacement, and contact time. The use of the mass-scaling technique was successfully implemented, reducing considerably the computing cost of the solutions. The maximum load, maximum displacement, and contact time are negligibly affected by the choice of finite element mesh discretization. However, it has an impact on the initiation and progression of interlaminar damage. Therefore, to accurately compute delamination, its correct definition is of upmost importance. The validation of these finite element models opens the possibility for further numerical studies on of woven composite shells and enables shortening the time and expenses associated with the experimental testing. Introduction: In the present study we evaluated the features of different recombinant forms of Zika virus (ZIKV) proteins produced in either bacterial (Eschericha coli) or insect cells (Drosophila melanogaster). The ZIKV-envelope glycoprotein (EZIKV) is responsible for virus entry into host cells, is the main target of neutralizing antibodies and has been used as a target antigen either for serological tests or for the development of subunit vaccines. The EZIKV is composed of three structural and functional domains (EDI, EDII, and EDIII), which share extensive sequence conservation with the corresponding counterparts expressed by other flaviviruses, particularly the different dengue virus (DENV) subtypes. Methods: In this study, we carried out a systematic comparison of the antigenicity and immunogenicity of recombinant EZIKV, EDI/IIZIKV and EDIIIZIKV produced in E. coli BL21 and Drosophila S2 cells. For the antigenicity analysis we collected 88 serum samples from ZIKV-infected participants and 57 serum samples from DENV-infected. For immunogenicity, C57BL/6 mice were immunized with two doses of EZIKV, EDI/IIZIKV and EDIIIZIKV produced in E. coli BL21 and Drosophila S2 cells to evaluate humoral and cellular immune response. In addition, AG129 mice were immunized with EZIKV and then challenge with ZIKV. Results: Testing of samples collected from ZIKV-infected and DENV-infected participants demonstrated that the EZIKV and EDIIIZIKV produced in BL21 cells presented better sensitivity and specificity compared to proteins produced in S2 cells. In vivo analyses were carried out with C57BL/6 mice and the results indicated that, despite similar immunogenicity, antigens produced in S2 cells, particularly EZIKV and EDIIIZIKV, induced higher ZIKV-neutralizing antibody levels in vaccinated mice. In addition, immunization with EZIKV expressed in S2 cells delayed the onset of symptoms and increased survival rates in immunocompromised mice. All recombinant antigens, either produced in bacteria or insect cells, induced antigen-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cell responses. Conclusion: In conclusion, the present study highlights the differences in antigenicity and immunogenicity of recombinant ZIKV antigens produced in two heterologous protein expression systems. This article evaluates the influence of Corporate Social Responsibility practices on organizational results. Although this relationship has been widely studied, there are no previous studies that analyze the role played by the characteristics of different company cultures. Although there are many publications on this topic, it is still not clear if and how such cultural characteristics influence the practice within the scope of operations management. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relation between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), organizational results and these cultural characteristics in Brazilian cosmetic companies. A survey was used to gather responses from 102 companies in the Brazilian cosmetic sector, and the data were examined using Correspondence Analysis, analyzing the patterns of associations. The results indicate an association between the most flexible internal cultural practices and a positive perception of the returns from the CSR and organizational results. Therefore, companies interested in enhancing their results should promote the internalization of flexible cultural principles, such as: privileging gender equality; providing employees direct access to their managers; fostering collective practices and interests; creating a free environment to question superiors and creating spaces to listen to employees. Despite specialists' efforts to find the best solutions for cancer diagnosis and therapy, this pathology remains the biggest health threat in the world. Global statistics concerning deaths associated with cancer are alarming; therefore, it is necessary to intensify interdisciplinary research in order to identify efficient strategies for cancer diagnosis and therapy, by using new molecules with optimal therapeutic potential and minimal adverse effects. This review focuses on studies of porphyrin macrocycles with regard to their structural and spectral profiles relevant to their applicability in efficient cancer diagnosis and therapy. Furthermore, we present a critical overview of the main commercial formulations, followed by short descriptions of some strategies approached in the development of third-generation photosensitizers. Seed hydropriming or nutripriming has been used for wheat biofortification. Previously, the untreated S1 offspring of bread wheat S0 seeds hydro- and nutriprimed with FeSO4.7H2O and/or ZnSO4.7H2O showed improved yield relative to the offspring of untreated S0 seeds. We hypothesize that such improvement would have its origin in the higher quality of S1 seeds resulting from plants whose seeds were primed. In this work, we characterised biochemically the whole-wheat flour of unprimed S1 offspring whose S0 seeds were hydro- and nutriprimed with Fe and/or Zn and compared it to the offspring of untreated S0 seeds (control). We identified and quantified 16 free amino acids and five soluble sugars per offspring using high-performance liquid chromatography and the Association of Official Analytical Chemists (AOAC) methods. The most abundant amino acids were glutamic acid and glutamine, proline, and glycine, presenting their highest contents in the offspring of seeds nutriprimed with 8 ppm Zn (0.351 mmol∙g−1), 8 ppm Fe + 8 ppm Zn (0.199 mmol∙g−1), and (0.135 mmol∙g−1), respectively. The highest contents of glucose (1.91 mg∙g−1 sample), ash (24.90 g∙kg−1 dry matter, DM), and crude protein (209.70 g∙kg−1 DM) were presented by the offspring resulting from 4 ppm Fe + 4 ppm Zn, 8 ppm Zn, and 8 ppm Fe + 8 ppm Zn, respectively. The highest total starch content (630.10 g∙kg−1 DM) was detected in the offspring of seeds soaked in 8 ppm Fe. The nutritional value of the flour of the S1 offspring resulting from nutripriming was significantly higher than the control. Overall, the novelty of our research is that seed priming can improve the quality of the wheat grain and flour, at least till the first offspring, without the need to repeat the presowing treatment. Cabotage in Brazil has not been sufficiently addressed, despite the fact that its national importance requires that it be thoroughly understood. The purpose of this research revolves around analysing and discussing the strategic role and usefulness of cabotage in order to base the development of public policies within the scope of the Brazilian transport matrix. The study is both exploratory and descriptive. Its aim is to inductively retrieve empirical data patterns from unstructured interviews guided by a general initial script; primary data collection was grounded on the problematic contextualisation set from relevant secondary data treated with content analysis software. The ex-post literature review played a central role in the discussion of the emerging patterns of behaviour that supported the development of preliminary correlations between the proposed recommendations and the identified obstacles. The three main types of obstacles that were found could be divided and linked to recommendations to facilitate the development of cabotage based on the research findings. The resulting policy proposals are classified as follows: (i) looking holistically at cabotage and, as a strategic domain for both development and sovereignty; (ii) monitoring the fuel price as a core cost; (iii) eliminating and simplifying useless bureaucracy; (iv) establishing a fruitful relationship with shipbuilding; (v) regulating taxation; (vi) reviewing the state's funding requirements; and (vii) improving port infra- and superstructures. Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) are emerging as an effective concept and model to empower the active participation of citizens in the energy transition, not only as energy consumers but also as promoters of environmentally friendly energy generation solutions, particularly through the use of photovoltaic panels. This paper aims to contribute to the management and optimization of individual and community Distributed Energy Resources (DER). The solution follows a price and source-based REC management program, in which consumers' day-ahead flexible loads (Flex Offers) are shifted according to electricity generation availability, prices, and personal preferences, to balance the grid and incentivize user participation. The heuristic approach used in the proposed algorithms allows for the optimization of energy resources in a distributed edge-and-fog approach with a low computational overhead. The simulations performed using real-world energy consumption and flexibility data of a REC with 50 dwellings show an average cost reduction, taking into consideration all the seasons of the year, of 6.5%, with a peak of 12.2% reduction in the summer, and an average increase of 32.6% in individual self-consumption. The effects of acute caffeine supplementation on muscular strength remain unclear. We examined the effects of two different doses of caffeine on muscle strength and calcium in plasma compared to placebo using a crossover, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled design. Twenty-one (n = 21) recreationally resistance-trained participants were randomly assigned into three experimental conditions: 6 mg·kg bw−1 of caffeine (CF6); 8 mg·kg bw−1 of caffeine (CF8); or placebo (PLA), with a 7-day washout period between conditions. Muscular strength assessments were made for both upper (bench press) and lower body muscles (squat and deadlift). Calcium release in plasma was measured on five different occasions. Bench press (CF8: 100.1 ± 1.9 kg; PLA: 94.2 ± 2.5 kg), deadlift (CF8: 132.8 ± 3.5 kg; PLA: 120.7 ± 5.7 kg), and squat (CF8: 130.1 ± 4.9 kg; PLA 119.4 ± 5.4 kg) strength were all significantly (p < 0.001) improved in CF8 compared to PLA. Calcium release in plasma was significantly increased in CF8, whereas no changes were observed in CF6 or PLA. Overall, 8 mg·kg bw−1 of caffeine appears to be an effective dose to optimize upper and lower body muscular strength and calcium release in recreationally trained participants. There is a lack of knowledge on the European bison (Bison bonasus L. 1758) foraging behavior that is essential to develop an appropriate feeding strategy for each specific situation (captive or wild). Utilization of faecal markers may allow us to fill this gap, accommodating animal welfare and intensive labour issues that are major limitations of traditional techniques. This study aimed to evaluate the potential of n-alkane markers (C25 to C33) to estimate diet composition, feed intake its digestibility on three captive maleBison bonasus fed on known amounts of straw, and a beeswax labelled concentrate feed. Feeds and faecal samples were taken daily during 10 days. Prior to calculations, faecal concentrations were corrected for incomplete faecal recovery (FR). Results indicated that 4–5 days were sufficient for these markers to reach a steady concentration in bison faeces. Accurate estimates of diet composition and feed intake were obtained not differing from known values. Results suggest that faecal recovery of n-alkanes in bison are incomplete and tend to increase with carbon-chain length. Apparent dry-matter digestibility (DMDap) estimates were affected by the n-alkane (C27, C29,C31, and C33) used in the calculations. Estimates of DMDap obtained with application of FR corrections were 6.3% higher than those without correction. Results indicate that feeding a known amount of beeswax labelled supplement can be successfully used to estimate composition, feed intake, and its digestibility, requiring the application of n-alkane FR data. Electrical utilities are continuously searching for new ways to cut costs and effectively increase the quality of service being supplied to their clients, which is closely related to the number of failures and the time it takes to locate and repair them. A helpful input for this continuing effort would be to have an estimate of the type of failure when it occurs. The analysis presented in this paper is part of an effort being carried out to estimate failure types based on an analysis of observable indirect variables. These indirect variables must be readily available after the failure detection, through a Smart Grid infrastructure, to enable a future application to carry out the estimation. This paper lays the groundwork on ambient and historical variables that display a relationship with various types of MV cable network failures. The paper presents relevant data and analyses the relationship between the various failure types and indirect variables, such as date and time, loading, historical data, daily rainfall, accumulated rainfall, dew point and ambient temperature. Simple Summary: Animal production in mountain regions is changing and improvements to maintain autochthonous breeds and traditions should be defined. One of the strategies to add value and improve productivity is to produce meat with a PDO (protected denomination of origin) label. One example in Portugal is the Arouquesa PDO beef. This work aimed to compare different production systems and understand if they affect growth performance, carcass, and meat parameters for the Arouquesa PDO beef. Systems using supplementation had better results regarding live weight and average daily gain. The finishing period increased subcutaneous fat. The meat quality parameters differ in the improved production system with early weaning leading to lesser exudative and cooking losses. In conclusion, the traditional systems improved with practices, such as supplementation, can in turn improve meat production without affecting beef quality or PDO certification. This study demonstrates that improved production systems can advance the Arouquesa autochthonous breed production, while in turn maintaining the valued characteristics of a PDO product. Arouquesa is an autochthonous bovine breed known for its Arouquesa PDO beef labeling. There are several production systems under the definition of PDO labeling. This study aimed to compare the effect of different production systems on carcass and meat traits for the Arouquesa breed. Two trials differing in diet and weaning age were conducted. The first trial included a TF group fed the traditional way and weaned at 9 months; a TF + S1 group, equal to TF, but with a starter supplement; and finally, a S1 + S2 group that was fed with a starter and a growth supplement and weaned at 5 months. The second trial was composed of a TF + S3 group fed like the TF + S1 group but reared until 12 months with a finishing supplement, and finally, the S3 group fed like the S1 + S2 group but reared until 12 months. In the first trial, the TF + S1 and S1 + S2 groups showed higher final live weight and average daily gain. In the second trial, we observed differences in the subcutaneous fat that was higher in the S3 group. Regarding meat traits, we observed differences in exudative and cooking losses in the first trial. In general, supplementation improved meat production without affecting meat quality parameters. Companies face new challenges needing to find ways to stand out from the competitors. All companies face new projects, which need to be managed assertively and faster, launching new products on the market ahead of competitors. This strategy requires enormous dexterity and agility within teams, which are increasingly multifaceted, multidisciplinary, and multifunctional. However, teams need to conciliate apparent freedom for creation with the sustainability rules, which are increasingly demanding, such as legislation and image that companies want to pass on to the market in terms of corporate social responsibility, ensuring a sustainable development of the companies. The goal of this work is to investigate and correlate agile project management and sustainability, taking into account that there are strong relationships, as well as to learn how agile project management affects organization's social, environmental, and economical dynamics from the triple bottom line standpoint. The research examines how agile project management ideas are connected to the triple bottom line concepts based on the literature. The framework was based on the theoretical assumptions underpinning the present research. The basic structure of the developed framework is based on the framework of a matrix‐based method for ordering and synthesizing data. Thus, network diagrams have been developed reproducing the links existing in the literature, both explicitly and implicitly. However, they were deeply expanded considering links not previously referred in the literature. An explanation about these new links is also provided, justifying their inclusion. Hence, the new diagrams offer a more complete landscape about how the adoption of agile practices in project management can improve sustainability in its different aspects, and vice‐versa. The findings reveal that implementing agile project management induces direct effects on an organization's social, economic, and environmental dynamics of the companies, as well as in their teams, with a favorable effect on all of them. Companies are continuously looking to improve their production systems using excellence models, with lean thinking, the Shingo model, six sigma and lean six sigma being the most comprehensive and applied. It is expected that the initial focus for the survival of companies is their economic profitability, but when economic needs are met, the next step is to achieve operational excellence. For this, in addition to economic objectives, it is necessary to include social and environmental objectives, i.e., the other two pillars of sustainability. This study aims to propose a conceptual model identifying the tools that can help achieve the desired results in the three pillars of sustainability aligned with operational excellence. The design of the conceptual model was based on a bibliometric analysis of the literature that relates the concepts of lean thinking, six sigma, lean six sigma and the Shingo model. The Web of Science was the platform selected for the collection of data, and the timeframe considered was 2010 to 2021. A total of 125 articles were analyzed using the VosViewer software, through which it was possible to analyze different topics of study related to the literature. The bibliometric analysis allowed for the identification of the temporal distribution of publications, the categorization of topics, different areas of application and the importance of the tools used in different practical cases. This study points out that companies have at their disposal several tools to achieve economic objectives. On the other hand, there is a set of more restricted tools that are used to meet the objectives of the social and environmental pillars. Future research should focus on identifying tools that meet social and environmental goals in order to strengthen these pillars that are essential for operational excellence and for the sustainability of companies. This research assesses the lean and green (LG) practices' impact on the competitive advantage (CA) of organizations, through sustainable performance, considering lean maturity as the moderator. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from a cross‐sectional sample of 261 companies operating in Portugal. Hypotheses are tested through structural equation modeling and multigroup analysis to examine the lean maturity moderating role. Results demonstrate a positive impact of LG practices on sustainable development and that their three dimensions of CA, with lean maturity boosting most relationships. This research highlights the impact of LG practices on organization's competitiveness and helps them underpin the importance these practices when comes to enhance their sustainable performance and their CA with help of environmental policy and also stakeholder engagement. Future studies should address these relationships upon a specific dimension, namely the correlation between environmental performance and CA, as it was not dealt in this study. Reduced Dose of Beta-Alanine Is Sufficient to Maintain Performance in Repeated Sprints. J Strength Cond Res 36(6): 1636–1642, 2022—Beta-alanine (BA) supplementation has been shown to be effective in improving physical performance by increasing carnosine concentration. However, it is still necessary to know the effect of a maintenance dose on performance. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of a maintenance dose of BA supplementation on performance. Forty-four anaerobically trained men with 23.9 ± 3.8 years of age, 176.0 ± 0.05 cm height, 81.2 ± 7.5 kg body mass, and 15.5 ± 2.9% of body fat performed a cycle ergometer test consisting of 4 sprints of 30 s with 4 minutes of active recovery. The study comprised 3 phases: (a) presupplementation, (b) supplementation with 6.4 g·d−1 BA or placebo, and (c) postsupplementation with a maintenance dose of 1.2 g·d−1 of BA or interruption of supplementation. Data were analyzed using generalized estimated equations with a priori 0.05 level of significance. The placebo group and interruption group presented a lower power (7.28 ± 0.66 and 7.71 ± 0.42 W·kg−1 vs. 8.04 ± 0.84 and 9.25 ± 1.18 W·kg−1, respectively; p < 0.05) during the third sprint in postsupplementation, whereas the maintenance group maintained the required power (7.47 ± 1.03 vs. 8.74 ± 1.07 W·kg−1; p > 0.05). The placebo group also presented higher percentage of fatigue (44.5% ± 12.3 and 44.8% ± 7.7 vs. 37.6 ± 7.2%; p = 0.021) and higher subjective perception of exertion (8.92 ± 0.90 vs. 8.00 ± 1.60; p = 0.028). Therefore, the maintenance dose of 1.2 g·d−1 BA was effective in maintaining performance, whereas a reduction in performance was observed after supplementation interruption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A series of nine tetrakis lanthanide β-diketonate complexes of the type [C2mim][Ln(fod)4] (C2mim = 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium, fod = 6,6,7,7,8,8,8-heptafluoro-2,2-dimethyl-3,5-octanedionate) were prepared, with yields above 80%, and their thermochemical, photophysical and magnetic susceptibilities were evaluated. Thermochemical studies presented a rare and reversible conversion between two solid phases (polymorphism), characteristic of the [Ln(fod)4]− anion. Photophysical and magnetic studies revealed that Dy and Er presented the multifunctionality of being simultaneously SMMs and visible (Dy) or near infra-red (Er) emitters. The Nd, Ho and Tm analogues present characteristic emission bands in the NIR region (800–1200 nm), while Sm, Eu, Tb and Dy present emissions in the visible range. Magnetic susceptibility of Tb, Dy, Ho, Er and Tm salts were measured in the temperature range of 2–300 K, showing paramagnetic behaviour, although with different regimes, with AC susceptibility measurements, at different frequencies in the range of 10–10 000 Hz, providing evidence of slow magnetic relaxation processes for Gd, Dy and Er analogues with SMM behavior. Palynology is one of the most useful tools for constructing biostratigraphic charts in the late Paleozoic basins of South America, but the lack of radiometric ages often makes it difficult to establish the precise age of the biozones. This paper focuses on two points: (i) the description of new Argentinian palynological assemblages referred to the Lueckisporites/Weylandites (LW) Biozone and (ii) the application of a new isotopic age that enables more confident large-scale correlations with the neighboring Paraná Basin of Brazil. The palynofloras were recovered from the upper part of the De La Cuesta Formation that crops out in the retroarc basin of the Paganzo Basin, more specifically obtained from mudstones intercalated with limestones, cherts, and tuffs interpreted as being deposited in a shallow water body. The assemblages are characterized by an abundance of bi-taeniate pollen grains of the Lueckisporites complex and multitaeniate pollen grains such as Lunatisporites, Protohaploxypinus, Striatopodocarpidites, Tornopollenites, and Vittatina. Colpate pollen grains are also represented by Marsupipollenites and Pakhapites. A U-Pb CA-ID-TIMS age of 278.84 ± 0.22 Ma, obtained from a tuff level interstratified with the fossiliferous strata, allows the age of the LW Biozone in the Paganzo Basin to be constrained for the first time and the adjustment of the record Lueckisporites virkkiae in Gondwana. Moreover, this date enables precise correlations with other basins, such as the San Rafael Basin (Yacimiento Los Reyunos Formation) in Argentina and the Brazilian Paraná Basin (Iratí Formation).
