This selection study was conducted to determine the walnut genotypes with superior characteristics grown from seeds in Ereğli and Halkapınar districts of Konya province and Ayrancı district of Karaman province between 2019-2022. In 2021 on the fruits taken, 8 genotypes in total, including 5 genotypes in shelled walnuts and 4 genotypes in kernels (1 genotype received high scores in both shelled and kernel walnuts) were found to be promising. In 8 genotypes selected, the shelled weight is 10.66-26.31 g, the kernel weight is 5.32-9.82 g, the kernel percentage is 37.33-57.91%, the shell thickness is between 1.06-1.90 mm, the shell color is "light" in 1 genotype, "moderate" in 4 genotypes, "dark" in 3 genotypes, kernel color is in 1 genotype "extra light", "light" in 7 genotypes, remove of kernel from the shell was "easy" in all genotypes. Shell adhesion was "good" in all genotypes, cracking of the shell was detected "easy" in 7 genotypes, "moderate" in 1 genotype, shell texture was "smooth" in 3 genotypes, "moderate" in 4 genotypes, and "rough" in 1 genotype. Remove of kernel from the shell was determined "easy" in all genotypes. Kernel fill and healthy kernel percentage was determined as 100% in all genotypes. At the end of the research, 6 of the selected genotypes showed homogamy, 1 showed protogeny and 1 showed protandry flowering properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study was carried out on the four Asian pear varieties grown in Ereğli district of Konya province between 2017- 2018. Within the scope of this work, some phenological and pomological characteristics of Hosiu, Kosiu, Hakko and Shinseiki cultivars were examined. 122.00 -206.00 g fruit weight, 58.97- 72,78 mm fruit width, 47.85-70,01 mm fruit size, 2.80- 5.48 kg cm-2 fruit firmness, 11.83- 16.90 % total soluble solids and 1.02- 5.66 % titratable acidity ratio were found as research results. As a result of this work on Asian Pear cultivars, in 2017, swollen bud term was carried out as 02-04 April, beginning of flowering 18- 19 April, full bloom 23-25 April, harvest date 05-09 August and the period from blooming to harvest date is determined between 133- 137 days. For 2018, swollen bud term was observed on 05- 07 March, beginning of flowering was on 23- 27 March, the full bloom was on 26- 29 March, harvest date 14- 16 August and the period from blooming to harvest date is determined between 141- 143 days. As a result of this study, four Asian Pear cultivars' phenological and pomological characteristics were determined in Ereğli district. The Akhüyük travertine mass crops out approximately 10 km to the north of Ereğli (Konya, Central Anatolia). Its morphology and relationship with the main controlling fault zones are investigated. The morhpological properties of six different fissure ridge travertines which make up the travertine mass are classified into four groups based on their geometrical properties and orientation. The fissure ridge travertines having a banded travertine thickness of 120 and 170 cm are considered as the oldest travertines in the study area. Sill-like structures and dilation are observed, indicative of the ongoing deformation after travertine precipitation. The height-to-width ratio of the fissure ridge travertines vary between 0.08 and 0.5. The morhological structures and parameters observed in the fissure ridge travertines are interpreted to stem from the low deformation rate in the study area. The relationship of the formation of the Akhüyük Fissure Ridge travertine with the Tuz Gölü (TGFZ) and Niğde fault zones (NFZ) is investigated. The TGFZ is determined to be the most significant structure that controls the Akhüyük fissure ridge travertines based on the extension direction determined, the location of the travertines, and the fact that the faults on the central and southeastern end of the TGFZ display the active normal fault zone with a right-lateral strike-slip component. This research was carried out in the cities of Zonguldak and Eregli, which have been characterized as urban and industrial environments of the Western Black Sea Region, Turkey, in order to assess the contamination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) using mosses as biomonitors. The methodology involved the collection of moss samples ( Hypnum cupressiforme), ultrasonic extraction with dichloromethane, cleanup using silica gel and analysis by liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. The total PAH concentrations ranged from 78.1 to 1693.5 ng g in Zonguldak and from 15.2 to 275.1 ng g in Eregli. The total PAH concentration in Eregli was about six times lower than that in Zonguldak, revealing the importance of switching from coal to natural gas in residential heating. The diagnostic ratios and the correlation analysis have indicated that coal combustion and traffic emissions were the major PAH sources at both sites. The contour maps were constructed for the determination of spatial distributions of total PAHs, and it was shown for Zonguldak as well as for Eregli that the PAH pollution was much more predominant in highly populated regions. This article describes the first attempt to study the concentration of seven element (Fe, Pb, Ni, Cr, Cu, Co, and As) contaminations in the vicinity of the Eregli Iron and Steel Plant (ERDEMIR) by analysis of two pleurocarpic moss species (Hypnum cupressiforme and Scleropodium purum). Samples of H. cupressiforme were collected from May 2003 to October 2004. Unwashed, dried samples were digested with HNO3/HClO4, and the concentrations of heavy metals were determined by graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GFAAS). In the region, general orders of heavy metal content in samples of mosses were determined as follows: Fe > Pb > Cr > Ni > Cu > Co > As. Comparisons were made between the two moss species for those elements presents at different concentrations and regression analysis were made to see interspecies relationship. H. cupressiforme and S. purum are significantly correlated for only Fe (P < 0.01) having Pearson's correlation coefficient as 0.93, indicating interspecies calibration for Fe. The ratios (Hc/Sp) were relatively better correlated with 1/Sp for As than for other metals, suggesting a saturation effect in H. cupressiforme for As. The deposition of metals due to the operation of the steel plant has been established and could be further monitored.
