Thymoquinone (TQ), a bioactive compound found in Nigella sativa seeds, has gained considerable attention due to its potential therapeutic properties. This study aimed to isolate and characterize TQ from Nigella sativa essential oil and evaluate its antioxidant capacity, antibacterial activity, and cytotoxic effects on lung cancer A549 cells. Moreover, The binding potential of TQ to Keap1 (Kelch-like ECH associated protein 1) was investigated through molecular docking. The stability of the resulting complex was evaluated through molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The CUPRAC assay revealed significant antioxidant capacity of TQ, as indicated by its high molar absorptivity coefficient. TQ also demonstrated notable free radical scavenging activity, with efficacy increasing with concentration. In terms of antiquorum sensing activity, TQ displayed effectiveness against all tested virulence factors in P. aeruginosa PAO1 and Chromobacterium violaceum in different range. Additionally, TQ induced cytotoxicity in non-small lung cancer cells, inhibiting cell viability. In conclusion, this study successfully isolated and characterized TQ from Nigella sativa seeds and demonstrated its remarkable antioxidant capacity, antibacterial activity, and cytotoxic effects on lung cancer cells. These findings suggest the potential of TQ for various applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The wet-lab study demonstrated that TQ had an antioxidant effect. The TQ was found to have high binding potential to Keap1 as it formed four conventional hydrogen bonds with the protein. The resulting Keap1-TQ complex was also found to be stable. In this study, total antioxidant and radical scavenging capacity wound healing and anti-analgesic effects of creams prepared from Nigella sativa EOs, hydrosol, and seed oil were determined in the experimental rat model. For this purpose, the volatile components of N. sativa EOs and hydrosol were characterized using GC-FID and GC-MS and the total antioxidant capacity of creams was determined by CUPRAC and DPPH assays. The analgesic effect of the creams was determined by the formalin test, while the wound-healing effects of creams were evaluated in vivo by experimentally creating skin wounds in rats. The main components in the group of monoterpene hydrocarbons, accounting for 52.61% of the total composition of N. sativa EOs, were as follows: p-cymene (28.76%), α-thujene (12.88%), trans-verbenol (5.99%), β-pinene (3.71%), α-pinene (3.69%), sabinene (1.7%), and limonene (1.69%). The group of oxygenated monoterpenes of N. sativa EOs was dominated by 2-isopropyl-5-methyl-1,4-benzoquinone (35.7%), known as thymoquinone (TQ). On the other hand, the analyses of GC-FID and GC-MS revealed that N. sativa hydrosol contains five components. These ingredients were as follows: 1,8-cineole (0.4%), linalool (0.5%), trans-verbenol (2.83%), terpinen-4-ol (7.21%), and TQ (89.05%). Research findings revealed the strong antioxidant effect and radical scavenging ability of the prepared creams. With ever increasing environmental awareness, renewable raw materials for textile and composite industry have become an important alternative to reduce the use of petroleum-based non-biodegradable fibers in various applications such as marine, automotive, sports and aerospace. Therefore, it is highly critical to understand the chemistry, structure, and properties of novel plant fibers. Natural fibers have been used for various purposes since ancient times. Numerous research and review papers were published on harvesting, production, properties and potential applications of conventional natural fibers. Sustainability, renewability, and recyclability issues increased the use of novel natural fibers globally. New applications such as natural fiber reinforced biodegradable composites also increased the importance of investigations on new natural fibers. This review paper considers extraction methods, fiber structure, chemical, physical and mechanical properties of novel cellulosic fibers. Fiber chemical constituents, functional groups, and surface hydrophilicity were discussed in terms of chemical properties. Physical properties of the cellulosic fibers such as density, crystallinity, maximum thermal degradation, mechanical performance and surface morphology were also discussed. Additionally, mechanical performance of new plant fibers was performed by comparing between some properties of common and recently characterized cellulosic fibers. The brief information about life-cycle assessment, sustainability, recycling, and biocomposite application of the novel plant fibers is also presented. According to the best our knowledge on literature review, this review may be unique to provide detailed information about recently characterized cellulosic fibers. The aim of this study was to develop a carrier system that protects fig seed oil (FSO) from oxidation by encapsulating into nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs). NLCs were prepared by high shear mixing technique and the effects of solid lipids and surfactants on the formulation parameters were investigated. The formulations were characterized in terms of particle size, polydispersity index, and zeta potential, and fatty acid and tocopherol amounts were determined by GC and HPLC, respectively. NLC loaded with FSO was obtained at a particle size of 241 nm with low polydispersity (0.259) and a negative electrical charge (−13.6 mV). The antioxidant capacity has been evaluated by accelerated oxidation storage tests, radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activity tests. The stability of the final formulation with high concentration of gamma tocopherol and unsaturated linoleic acid content of FSO was increased by loading into NLCs. Novelty impact statement: NLC formulations loaded with FSO were prepared for the first time at a dimension of 241 nm with low polydispersity.FSO was protected against lipid oxidation by encapsulation into NLC as revealed by lipid peroxidation, hydrogen peroxide, and radical scavenging activity tests.FSO‐loaded NLC formulations were shown to be valuable carriers for encapsulation of bioactive food materials for stability. Fiber cross section shapes, which have a direct influence on the physical properties of textile surfaces, are becoming more and more complex recently. There are also many important properties of the carpets such as luster, resilience, abrasion resistance which are impacted by the shape of the fiber cross sections. In this present paper, the influence of pile fiber cross section shape on compression properties of carpets was experimentally investigated under short and long-term static loadings. The material used was polypropylene carpets having two different pile fiber shapes: trilobal and hollow. The experimental results indicate that percentage thickness loss of carpets having hollow piles is slightly higher than carpets with trilobal piles in both short- and long-term static loadings. In this study, jute/polyester composites were fabricated. To improve the adhesion between jute fabric and polyester alkali-treated jute fabrics were treated with γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (γ-MPS). The effect of silane concentrations (0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5%) on tensile properties, flexural properties, and interlaminar shear strength was investigated. Once jute fabrics were treated with 0.1% and 0.3% silane concentrations, the tensile properties of silane-treated jute polyester composites increased. However, when 0.5% γ-MPS was used in silane treatment, the tensile properties of jute/polyester composites decreased. 0.3% silane-treated jute/polyester composites exhibited superior improvements in terms of the flexure properties among the fabricated composites. Interlaminar shear strength measurements showed that best adhesion was provided by using 0.3% silane-treated jute/polyester composites.
