In modern physics and fabrication technology, simulation of projectile and target collision is vital to improve design in some critical applications, like; bulletproofing and medical applications. Graphene, the most prominent member of two dimensional materials presents ultrahigh tensile strength and stiffness. Moreover, polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) is one of the most important elastomeric materials with a high extensive application area, ranging from medical, fabric, and interface material. In this work we considered graphene/PDMS structures to explore the bullet resistance of resulting nanocomposites. To this aim, extensive molecular dynamic simulations were carried out to identify the penetration of bullet through the graphene and PDMS composite structures. In this paper, we simulate the impact of a diamond bullet with different velocities on the composites made of single- or bi-layer graphene placed in different positions of PDMS polymers. The underlying mechanism concerning how the PDMS improves the resistance of graphene against impact loading is discussed. We discuss that with the same content of graphene, placing the graphene in between the PDMS result in enhanced bullet resistance. This work comparatively examines the enhancement in design of polymer nanocomposites to improve their bulletproofing response and the obtained results may serve as valuable guide for future experimental and theoretical studies. Despite the uniquely high thermal conductivity of graphene is well known, the exploitation of graphene into thermally conductive nanomaterials and devices is limited by the inefficiency of thermal contacts between the individual nanosheets. A fascinating yet experimentally challenging route to enhance thermal conductance at contacts between graphene nanosheets is through molecular junctions, allowing covalently connecting nanosheets, otherwise interacting only via weak Van der Waals forces. Beside the bare existence of covalent connections, the choice of molecular structures to be used as thermal junctions should be guided by their vibrational properties, in terms of phonon transfer through the molecular junction. In this paper, density functional tight-binding combined with Green's functions formalism was applied for the calculation of thermal conductance and phonon spectra of several different aliphatic and aromatic molecular junctions between graphene nanosheets. Effects of molecular junction length, conformation, and aromaticity were studied in detail and correlated with phonon tunnelling spectra. The theoretical insight provided by this work can guide future experimental studies to select suitable molecular junctions, in order to enhance the thermal transport by suppressing the interfacial thermal resistances. This is attractive for various systems, including graphene nanopapers and graphene polymer nanocomposites, as well as related devices. In a broader view, the possibility to design molecular junctions to control phonon transport currently appears as an efficient way to produce phononic devices and controlling heat management in nanostructures. Abstract: The edge‐functionalization of graphene nanoplatelets (GnP) is carried out exploiting diazonium chemistry, aiming at the synthesis of edge decorated nanoparticles to be used as building blocks in the preparation of engineered nanostructured materials for enhanced heat transfer. Indeed, both phenol functionalized and dianiline‐bridged GnP (GnP‐OH and E‐GnP, respectively) are assembled in nanopapers exploiting the formation of non‐covalent and covalent molecular junctions, respectively. Molecular dynamics allow to estimate the thermal conductance for the two different types of molecular junctions, suggesting a factor 6 between conductance of covalent vs noncovalent junctions. Furthermore, the chemical functionalization is observed to drive the self‐organization of the nanoflakes into the nanopapers, leading to a 20% enhancement of the thermal conductivity for GnP‐OH and E‐GnP while the cross‐plane thermal conductivity is boosted by 190% in the case of E‐GnP. The application of chemical functionalization to the engineering of contact resistance in nanoparticles networks is therefore validated as a fascinating route for the enhancement of heat exchange efficiency on nanoparticle networks, with great potential impact in low‐temperature heat exchange and recovery applications. Thermal conductivity of polymer-based (nano)composites is typically limited by thermal resistances occurring at the interfaces between the polymer matrix and the conductive particles as well as between particles themselves. In this work, the adoption of molecular junctions between thermally conductive graphene foils is addressed, aiming at the reduction of the thermal boundary resistance and eventually lead to an efficient percolation network within the polymer nanocomposite. This system was computationally investigated at the atomistic scale, using classical Molecular Dynamics, applied the first time to the investigation of heat transfer trough molecular junctions within a realistic environment for a polymer nanocomposite. A series of Molecular Dynamics simulations were conducted to investigate the thermal transport efficiency of molecular junctions in polymer tight contact, to quantify the contribution of molecular junctions when graphene and the molecular junctions are surrounded by polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) molecules. A strong dependence of the thermal conductance was found in PDMS/graphene model, with best performances obtained with short and conformationally rigid molecular junctions. Furthermore, the adoption of the molecular linkers was found to contribute additionally to the thermal transport provided by the surrounding polymer matrix, demonstrating the possibility of exploiting molecular junctions in composite materials. Graphene and borophene are highly attractive two-dimensional materials with outstanding physical properties. In this study we employed combined atomistic continuum multi-scale modeling to explore the effective thermal conductivity of polymer nanocomposites made of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer as the matrix and graphene and borophene as nanofillers. PDMS is a versatile polymer due to its chemical inertia, flexibility and a wide range of properties that can be tuned during synthesis. We first conducted classical Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations to calculate the thermal conductance at the interfaces between graphene and PDMS and between borophene and PDMS. Acquired results confirm that the interfacial thermal conductance between nanosheets and polymer increases from the single-layer to multilayered nanosheets and finally converges, in the case of graphene, to about 30 MWm−2 K−1 and, for borophene, up to 33 MWm−2 K−1. The data provided by the atomistic simulations were then used in the Finite Element Method (FEM) simulations to evaluate the effective thermal conductivity of polymer nanocomposites at the continuum level. We explored the effects of nanofiller type, volume content, geometry aspect ratio and thickness on the nanocomposite effective thermal conductivity. As a very interesting finding, we found that borophene nanosheets, despite having almost two orders of magnitude lower thermal conductivity than graphene, can yield very close enhancement in the effective thermal conductivity in comparison with graphene, particularly for low volume content and small aspect ratios and thicknesses. We conclude that, for the polymer-based nanocomposites, significant improvement in the thermal conductivity can be reached by improving the bonding between the fillers and polymer, or in other words, by enhancing the thermal conductance at the interface. By taking into account the high electrical conductivity of borophene, our results suggest borophene nanosheets as promising nanofillers to simultaneously enhance the polymers' thermal and electrical conductivity.
