Introduction: The most prevalent head and neck cancer type is laryngeal cancer. Laryngeal cancer susceptibility is increased by a combination of genetic variables and environmental factors. Genetic predispositions that influence the functioning of the immune system can affect tumor development. Our study investigates the impact of alterations in CD40 (rs1883832) and CD40L (rs1126535) genes and the levels of their proteins on the development of laryngeal cancer. Materials and methods: The PCR-RFLP method was used for genotyping SNPs in 96 patients with laryngeal cancer and 127 healthy individuals. Additionally, ELISA was utilized to measure circulating levels of sCD40 and sCD40L. Results: We identified a significant difference in the genotype distribution of CD40 (rs1883832) between laryngeal cancer patients and healthy individuals (p = 0.05). The C allele was dominant, and the CC genotype was more frequently observed in patients with laryngeal cancer (OR: 2.34, 95% CI: 0.98–5.54). In contrast, no statistically significant difference in the genotypes of CD40L (rs1126535) was detected between laryngeal cancer patients and the control group (p = 0.12). Additionally, no significant differences in serum sCD40 or sCD40L levels were observed between the groups (p = 0.48 and p = 0.15, respectively). However, a moderate positive correlation was found between sCD40 and sCD40L levels in the laryngeal cancer group (r = 0.52, p<0.01), a relationship that was not observed in the control group. Discussion: According to the current findings, it is suggested that the CD40 (rs1883832) gene variation found in patients may indicate an individual's susceptibility to developing laryngeal cancer. On the other hand, CD40L (rs1126535) seems to not play a significant role. While serum sCD40 and sCD40L levels did not show significant differences between patients and controls, the correlation in cancer patients suggests that these markers may be relevant in tumor progression. Objective: To examine the diagnostic continuity in patients diagnosed with Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) by prospective symptom grading of patients with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD. Methods: The study included 95 women with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD who applied to Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Department of Mental Health and Diseases Outpatient Clinic, and 64 women with similar sociodemographic characteristics as the control group. Sociodemographic data form, Premenstrual Syndrome Scale, Psychache Scale, and Anxiety Sensitivity Index-3 were applied to the participants. Individual calendars were prepared for those with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD, and they were asked to fill them out for 3 months. Results: In this study, 65.3% of patients with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD met the criteria for permanent PMDD. Psychache scale total score averages of those diagnosed with PMDD were significantly higher than the control group (P < .001). The mean anxiety sensitivity total score and subscales of those with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD were significantly higher than the control group; both the total score (P=.04) and the physical sensitivity subscale (P=.01) were significantly higher in those with a permanent diagnosis of PMDD. Dysmenorrhea was significantly more frequent in those with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD (P=.03); this relationship was not found in those with a permanent diagnosis of PMDD. Conclusion: Approximately two-thirds of those with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD met the criteria for a permanent diagnosis, indicating that prospective evaluation is necessary for those with a provisional diagnosis of PMDD. In this theoretical study, the high‐frequency response of the electrothermal NbO2‐Mott threshold switch is focused, a real‐world electronic device, which has been proved to be relevant in several applications and is classified as a volatile memristor. Memristors of this kind, have been shown to exhibit distinctive non‐linear behaviors crucial for cutting‐edge neuromorphic circuits. In accordance with well‐established models for these devices, their resistances depend on their body temperatures, which evolve over time following Newton's Law of Cooling. Here, it is demonstrated that HP's NbO2‐Mott memristor can manifest up to three distinct steady‐state oscillatory behaviors under a suitable high‐frequency periodic voltage input, showcasing increased versatility despite its volatile nature. Additionally, when subjected to a high‐frequency periodic voltage signal, the device body temperature oscillates with a negligible peak‐to‐peak amplitude. Since the temperature remains almost constant over an input cycle, the devices under study behave as linear resistors during each input cycle. Based on these insights, this paper presents analytical equations characterizing the response of the NbO2‐Mott memristor to high‐frequency voltage inputs, demarcating regions in the state space where distinct initial conditions lead to various asymptotic oscillatory behaviors. Importantly, the mathematical methods introduced in this manuscript are applicable to any volatile electrothermal resistive switch. Additionally, this work presents analytical equations that accurately reproduce the temperature time‐waveform of the studied device during both its transient and steady‐state phases when subjected to a zero‐mean sinusoidal voltage input oscillating in the high‐frequency limit. This analytical approach not only increases the comprehension of volatile electrothermal memristors but also provides a theoretical framework to harness the enhanced dynamical capabilities of real‐world volatile memristors in practical applications. Background/Objectives: This study investigates the relationship between psychiatric disorders and herpes zoster (HZ). Emergency and outpatient admissions to Kırşehir Education and Research Hospital between 2019 and 2023 were examined. Psychiatric disorders are known in the literature as one of the factors that weaken the immune system, thereby increasing the risk of infection. Methods: In our study, the past diagnoses and sociodemographic data of all individuals over the age of 18 who applied to the Kırşehir Education and Research Hospital between 2019 and 2023 were obtained from hospital system records. Patients receiving immunosuppressive treatment or those with diseases that could affect immune system function were excluded from the study. The sample was divided into two groups: those with and without psychiatric disorders diagnosed with HZ. Sociodemographic features, change of HZ frequency over the years, and differences among psychiatric diagnosis subgroups were examined between the groups. Results: Individuals with psychiatric diseases had a significantly higher frequency of HZ compared to those without psychiatric diseases (0.0040% vs. 0.0016%, p < 0.001). No significant difference was found in the frequency of HZ among different types of psychiatric disorders (p = 0.60). Additionally, no statistically significant difference was found in the median age between the groups (p = 0.11). In terms of gender distribution, it was determined that women were more frequently diagnosed with HZ compared to men. Conclusions: The frequency of HZ was found to be higher in individuals with psychiatric disorders. Vocational education is crucial for integrating students into the workforce by transforming theoretical knowledge into practice and developing job habits, knowledge, and skills in a specific professional field. This study aims to identify the reasons why students in vocational education choose Vocational Education Centers (VEC). The study was conducted using a phenomenological design. The study group consisted of school administrators, teachers, current students, students' parents, and the workplaces where they receive training in vocational schools with VEC practices in a city in eastern Türkiye during the 2023-2024 academic year. This study was conducted with a total of 32 participants, including eight school administrators, eight teachers, ten students, three parents, and three business representatives. As a result, it was revealed that during the transition phase to VEC, misinformation was provided, and the primary purpose of the practice was perceived not as vocational training but more as social aid distribution. It was also found that competition emerged due to the imposition of quotas on provinces and schools, and those schools used various methods to increase student enrollment. Background: Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) is a disease that causes severe pain that can seriously affect the quality of life. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two different low-level laser therapies (LLLT) as alternatives to medical treatment to reduce pain and improve the quality of life in patients with TN. Methods: A total of 45 patients were randomly divided into 3 groups. In the first group, a new-generation diode laser (GRR laser) was applied at predetermined points in the trigeminal nerve line. In the second group, a low-level neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser was applied along the affected nerve line. The placebo group received the same protocol with a Nd:YAG laser without the device switched on. The scores were recorded pre- and post-treatment using the Brief Pain Inventory-Facial (BPI-facial) scale. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between the pre- and post-treatment values of all four variables in the GRR laser, Nd:YAG laser, and placebo groups. When the post-treatment values were compared, statistically significant differences were found between the groups in pain frequency, pain intensity, and interference in facial-specific activities, but no differences were found in general activities. Conclusions: Both LLLTs can be considered alternative treatment modalities for TN, but the GRR laser treatment was more effective than the Nd:YAG laser treatment in reducing pain and improving the quality of life in patients with TN. Background: Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is defined as a pathological fixation on eating healthy and pure food. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Düsseldorf orthorexia scale (DOS) in a clinical sample. Methods: A total of 385 individuals, 117 with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), 108 with major depressive disorder (MDD), 56 with obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and 104 healthy controls, participated in the study. Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), Yale–Brown Obsessive–Compulsive Scale (Y-BOCS), Eating Attitude Test (EAT-40), Orthorexia Nervosa Inventory (ONI) and Düsseldorf Orthorexia Scale (DOS) were applied to all participants. Results: The DOS demonstrated high internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.87) and good construct validity. Confirmatory factor analysis supported a one-factor structure, explaining a significant portion of variance among responses. In the analyses performed to test the convergent validity of DOS, a positive correlation was found with ONI and EAT scores (p < 0.001 for each). There was no significant correlation between DOS and HAM-D and HAM-A scores (p > 0.05 for each). The severity of orthorexic symptoms measured by DOS was similar between each patient group and healthy control group. DOS was applied to 70 more participants two weeks apart and the test–retest reliability was determined as 0.99. Conclusions: This study shows that the Turkish version of DOS is valid and reliable in clinical samples and healthy individuals, is largely consistent with ONI, and that this scale can be used in studies investigating ON. Plain English Summary: Orthorexia nervosa (ON) is a phenomenon in which there is intense effort to eat foods that are believed to be healthy and pure. It has been stated that there is a decrease in the professional, social and academic functionality of orthorexic individuals due to their efforts on healthy eating, and their physical health may be affected over time. Therefore, there is a need for an appropriate screening scale for rapid screening of orthorexic symptoms. The Düsseldorf orthorexia scale (DOS) is a self-report scale consisting of 10 questions created to assess ON. Our study is the first study to evaluate this scale in a Turkish clinical sample. The main aim of our study was to test the psychometric properties of DOS in patients diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder and obsessive–compulsive disorder. The results showed that DOS had satisfactory psychometric properties in the Turkish clinical sample and could be a short, useful, and valid scale to screen for ON in these individuals. This paper delves into the exploration of directional recursion operators within the realm of regular space curves modeled by Heisenberg systems. The central objective is to introduce a myriad of recursive flows, encompassing ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic solutions, alongside a family of general normalization operators in the normal and binormal directions. The study employs the extended compatible and inextensible flow model of curves to examine the evolution models, providing a comprehensive understanding of their dynamics. A significant aspect of the investigation involves elucidating the evolution model in terms of anholonomy shapes and their density. The directional recursive operator, a focus of this study, demonstrates distinct results compared to traditional approaches. Zinc-oxide nanoparticle (ZnO NP) is one of the metal oxide materials widely used in many fields due to its superior properties. Numerous studies have been conducted on the toxic effects of these NPs in biological systems; however, there is a limited number of studies investigating their effects on biochemical parameters. The aim of this study is to determine the effects of ZnO NP on some biochemical parameters and defense system in yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) culture medium. The analysis (Gas chromatographic analysis) of fatty acids and sterols (ergosterol, campestrol, stigmasteol, betasitosterol) was performed. The results of the present study revealed that zinc oxide nanoparticles had various effects on biochemical parameters in S. cerevisiae yeast culture to which they were applied at different doses. A significant statistical difference was found between the control group and the other groups for biochemical parameter content. It is thought that the results of the antioxidant defense system will be a reference for similar studies on other living models and will contribute to the literature by supporting future studies using in vivo systems. With the advent of digital technologies that have rapidly changed the functioning of societies, digital leadership has also become a novel imperative for the effective functioning of organizations. As the backbone of societal development, educational institutions have not been exempt from the influence of these new trends, which has ignited a growing research interest in the digital leadership roles of school administrators. This study aims to map the conceptual and thematic evolution of this research on digital leadership in the education field to offer a better insight into the strategic themes that are sufficiently or insufficiently addressed; that is, to identify aspects that are clearly defined or left shrouded in shadow. This study employed science mapping methodology and used SciMAT software (version 1.1.04) to map the evolution of thematic strands across three periods of the field's development. The analysis was conducted using metadata obtained from 174 articles that are indexed on WoS and Scopus. The results indicated that with a growing focus on technology or e-leadership, considering the developments in the world of computers and the internet, research into digital leadership has gained momentum in recent years, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic. Digital leadership is regarded as a broader concept for application in investigating the knowledge, skills, competencies, and perspectives of school leaders to facilitate the healthy integration of digital technologies into education, school administration, and student learning. The field seems to require investigations into the many aspects of digitalization in education to build a more solid and insightful knowledge base to guide the effective practice of digital leadership in schools. Background: Many of the familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) patients present with arthritis during attacks, which may vary in its characteristics. Aims: In this study, we aimed to describe and characterise arthritis in FMF patients. Methods: We used our hospital's record system to retrospectively identify FMF patients with arthritis who presented to our clinic between 2005 and 2020. The prevalence, laboratory results of attack, remission periods, genetic mutations, demographic data, characteristics of attacks, characteristics of arthritis, comorbidities, treatments and treatment responses were recorded. Results: Nine hundred fifty‐four patients from a cohort of 2350 FMF patients had arthritis (40%). The male/female ratio was 0.49 in patients with arthritis. The frequency of at least one exon 10 mutation was high. The age of onset of symptoms was earlier for patients with arthritis. Monoarticular pattern was more frequent compared to oligo‐ and polyarticular patterns. Colchicine resistance was higher; the required colchicine dose for disease control and the frequency of use of biological agents were higher compared to general FMF population. Conclusion: Since M694V mutation is common and the colchicine dose required for disease control is high, we can conclude that the disease activity is high in FMF patients with arthritis. The frequency of sacroiliitis and spondyloarthropathy is significantly increased, especially in individuals with M694V mutation, suggesting that there may be a common pathway in their pathogenesis. Nutrition is one of the cornerstones in the treatment and support of critically ill patients. Nutritional support includes the provision of calories, protein, electrolytes, vitamins, and trace elements through enteral or parenteral routes. Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common problem in critically ill patients and can lead to severe consequences, impacting metabolism and nutritional status significantly. Furthermore, regardless of the modality used, renal replacement therapy (RRT) has profound effects on metabolism. Evidence on nutritional support during continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is limited, and there are no established clinical guidelines for nutritional adaptations during CRRT in critically ill patients. The current paper engages with the topic and patterns of migration flows to Europe from a historically driven critical perspective. The research is focused primarily on examining the intentions of European States and their immigration policies, either liberal or restrictive, throughout the ages across the pan-European area. The scope of the research is limited to historical migration in Europe, and we employ a retrospective approach to analyse it critically. It is done through the lens of the postcolonial school of thought, as it proves to be the most efficient when explaining fluctuations and modulations recorded. These scholars underlined varying push and pull factors that led to migration toward Europe, especially during modern times. Furthermore, we interpret and overlook how the "united in diversity" desiderates are reflected across the EU's current undertakings, as we employ a critical approach to interpret recent evolutions and draw up prospective avenues holistically. In conclusion, we observe repeating patterns of exploitative systems in the European view of migration, especially toward worker migrants. Hence, we assert that colonial reminiscences remain across some sectorial levels. We advocate that collective intervention is required to eradicate these postcolonial approaches. TRAIL, a member of the TNF family, is expressed in tumor and tumor surrounding tissue in many solid organ cancers. While the induction of tumor-specific apoptosis in correlation with cytokine stimulation may cause anti-tumoral effects, the pro-tumorigenic effects of its expression by tumor surrounding tissue members have been reported in the literature. In our study, it was aimed to evaluate the effect of the gene variant of TRAIL on soluble levels in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) on the molecular pathological axis. TRAIL C1595 gene variant PCR–RFLP and sTRAIL levels were determined by ELISA in age and sex adjusted CRC and control groups. It was determined that CT carriage was high in patients without perineural invasion and sTRAIL levels were approximately 2.72 times lower than CC in patients with CT in this group (p < 0.05). Similarly, sTRAIL level was found to be high in patients with CC genotype in CRC without lymph node metastas. It was determined that CT carriage was high in patients without perineural invasion and sTRAIL levels were approximately 2.49 times lower than CC in patients with CT in this group.is (p < 0.05). We think that TRAIL C1595T in CRC can change sTRAIL levels in the clinicopathological axis in advanced stages such as metastasis and invasion, but both are not independent risk factors. This paper introduces the 'Revolutions' themed special issue which includes research presented at the 24th annual Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR) conference (2023). The conference theme centered on revolutions, highlighting the connections between digital transformations and social movements across time and space. Focusing on the affordances of digital technologies for mobilization, resistance and achieving social justice, but also their limitations in enabling lasting social change, the conference theme asked participants to reflect on the tradeoffs between empowerment and subordination, and the relationship of digital 'revolutions' to racial justice, anticolonial movements, and the rising tide of white supremacist and fascist mobilization. This special issue includes six papers that offer new angles on critically assessing the groundbreaking early ideas underpinning online networked spaces and questioning the revolutionary potential of the internet today. The range of papers includes contexts related to platform power and user agency, online political subcultures and memeification, the balance between visibility and power for content creators revolutionizing live streaming and influencer cultural industries, and perceptions of AI's revolutionary impact on romantic relationships. The studies in this issue also offer a global view, with geographies stretching from the MENA region and China to subcultures and marginalized groups in Western contexts such as the US and Canada. A nonlinear system, exhibiting a unique asymptotic behaviour, while being continuously subject to a stimulus from a certain class, is said to suffer from fading memory. This interesting phenomenon was first uncovered in a non-volatile tantalum oxide-based memristor from Hewlett Packard Labs back in 2016 out of a deep numerical investigation of a predictive mathematical description, known as the Strachan model, later corroborated by experimental validation. It was then found out that fading memory is ubiquitous in non-volatile resistance switching memories. A nonlinear system may however also exhibit a local form of fading memory, in case, under an excitation from a given family, it may approach one of a number of distinct attractors, depending upon the initial condition. A recent bifurcation study of the Strachan model revealed how, under specific train stimuli, composed of two square pulses of opposite polarity per cycle, the simplest form of local fading memory affects the transient dynamics of the aforementioned Resistive Random Access Memory cell, which, would asymptotically act as a bistable oscillator. In this manuscript we propose an analytical methodology, based on the application of analysis tools from Nonlinear System Theory to the Strachan model, to craft the properties of a generalised pulse train stimulus in such a way to induce the emergence of complex local fading memory effects in the nano-device, which would consequently display an interesting tuneable multistable oscillatory response, around desired resistance states. The last part of the manuscript discusses a case study, shedding light on a potential application of the local history erase effects, induced in the device via pulse train stimulation, for compensating the unwanted yet unavoidable drifts in its resistance state under power off conditions. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for women worldwide, and detecting cancer at an early stage increases the survival rate by 97%. In this study, a novel textile-based ultrawideband (UWB) microstrip patch antenna was designed and modeled to work in the 2–11.6 GHz frequency range and a simulation was used to test its performance in early breast cancer detection. The antenna was designed with an overall size of 31*31 mm 2 using a denim substrate and 100% metal polyamide-based fabric with copper, silver, and nickel to provide comfort for the wearer. The designed antenna was tested in four numerical breast models. The models ranged from simple tumor-free to complex models with small tumors. The size, structure, and position of the tumor were modified to test the suggested ability of the antenna to detect cancers with different shapes, sizes, and positions. The specific absorption rate (SAR), return loss (S11), and voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) were calculated for each model to measure the antenna performance. The simulation results showed that SAR values were between 1.6 and 2 W/g (10 g SAR) and were within the allowed range for medical applications. Additionally, the VSWR remained in an acceptable range from 1.15 to 2. Depending on the size and location of the tumor, the antenna return losses of the four models ranged from - 36 to - 18.5 dB. The effect of bending was tested to determine the flexibility. The antenna proved to be highly effective and capable of detecting small tumors with diameters of up to 2 mm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Kahramanmaraş earthquakes occurred on 6 February 2023, and many people died and were trapped under the rubble. The objective of this research was to investigate child victims of the quake, who were most dramatically affected, required intensive care and were trapped under debris/rubble/wreckage in terms of psychiatric status and the disaster-related or personal determinants of psychopathologies. Pediatric patients (n=77) who were hospitalized in intensive care units and inpatient wards within the first month after the earthquake and were consulted to the Child Psychiatry, were examined in terms of psychiatric symptoms, use of psychotropics, duration under debris, loss of relatives, loss of limbs, and intensive care requirement. Anhedonia, loss of appetite, psychosomatic and dissociative symptoms, as well as psychotropic need/use were significantly higher in patients who required intensive care. Dissociative and psychosomatic symptoms were linked with longer durations under debris. The current findings highlight prominent and predominated psychiatric symptoms in child victims of quakes, hospitalized in intensive care units and being prolonged trapped under debris. Prolonged entrapment correlated with increased dissociative and psychosomatic symptoms, emphasizing the need for targeted psychiatric support for vulnerable earthquake survivors. Aim: It is known that oral health is an integral part of general health and oral health is closely related to quality of life. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between oral health-related quality of life, malnutrition and other oral health problems. Methods: A sociodemographic form consisting of 25 questions was applied. The Oral Health Impact Profile and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life scales were used to assess oral and dental health and the Mini-Nutritional Assessment Test to assess nutritional status. T-test and Chi-Square test were used to determine whether there was a difference between the variables and their significance levels. Results: The mean age of 300 people who participated was 64.90±15.38 years. It was determined that there was no statistically significant relationship between the Mini-Nutritional Assessment Test and Oral Health Impact Profile and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life Scale (p=0.763, p=0.429). 80% of the patients receiving home care stated that they needed oral health services. 98.3% of the patients stated that their family physicians did not make any recommendations for oral health. Conclusion: We did not detect any relationship between the Oral Health Impact Profile and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life Scale and Mini-Nutritional Assessment in our study. In addition, poor oral health and malnutrition were found to be high in fully and semi-dependent individuals. The article published in the Turkish Archives of Pediatrics discusses a case of atypical mycobacterial pneumonia in two siblings with a novel hypomorphic NEMO/IKBKG mutation. The present study aimed to explore the perceptions of spirituality and spiritual care among nurses who work in three different countries with different cultures as well as the factors influencing their perception. This is a cross-sectional multicultural study conducted with a total of 1090 nurses from Türkiye, Albania, and Italy. Data were collected through the "Individual Information Form" and the "Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale". Nurses' mean score on the Spirituality and Spiritual Care Rating Scale was above average. It was also found that country, marital status, religious belief, Islamic religion, training for spiritual care, and using spiritual practices to cope with difficulties or illnesses influenced nurses' perception of spirituality and spiritual care. It was concluded that nurses from the three countries associated spirituality and spiritual care with religion and that some personal characteristics influenced their perceptions of spiritual care. We conduct a thorough exploration of the magnetic flows and physical dynamics exhibited by point charged particles in three-dimensional ordinary space. Our methodology is grounded in the application of conformable methods. Initially, we refine the general treatment to derive velocity and acceleration vector fields for point particles traversing conformable curves under the influence of distinct force fields. Subsequently, our inquiry extends into the realm of magnetism, where we investigate various types of dynamical magnetic curves that emerge from characterizing the movement of charged particles along conformable curves. In addition to this, we introduce the Fermi–Walker conformable derivative and provide an alternative representation for a unit-speed conformable curve by leveraging the Fermi–Walker connection. Throughout the entirety of the paper, we establish a meaningful correlation between the consistent motion of conformable charged particles and the trajectories dictated by specific external forces within the α -Frenet–Serret frame. The application of fractional calculus plays a pivotal role in our investigations, a facet we meticulously delve into in the paper. This work significantly contributes to an enhanced comprehension of magnetic phenomena and dynamics, offering valuable insights into the behavior of charged particles within conformable frameworks. The aim of this study was to produce chocolate using roasted (RB) and unroasted cocoa beans (URB). The effect of roasting on the total phenolic content (TPC), antioxidant activity [2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) scavenging activity, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), and cupric ion reducing antioxidant capacity (CUPRAC) values], phenolic compounds, caffeine, oxidative stability [free fatty acid, peroxide, conjugated dienes, conjugated trienes, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS)], Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and differential scanning colorimetry (DSC) analysis of both cocoa beans and chocolate samples were analyzed. According to the results, the TPC of URB (24.96 mg gallic acid equivalent (GAE)/g sample) was higher than roasted beans (21.32 mg GAE/g sample). Similar results were also seen in the TPC of chocolate samples. Although roasting did not affect the DPPH scavenging activity and caffeine content of cocoa beans, it decreased FRAP and CUPRAC values. (-)-Epicatechin and chlorogenic acid values were higher in unroasted bean and chocolate samples, but the amount of gallic acid increased with the roasting process. Free fatty acid, peroxide, conjugated dienes, conjugated trienes, and TBARS results of unroasted samples were lower than roasted ones, indicating better oxidative stability. The melting temperatures of cocoa beans changed with roasting while it was similar between chocolate samples. This study investigates language learners' perception of Turkish teachers' roles in an online setting using metaphor analysis. The aim of this qualitative study was to see how learners viewed their teachers' roles in the setting. Using this data collection tool through convenient sampling, this study elicited 161 language learners' perceptions of teachers' role in an online context during the COVID-19 era between December and January 2020. Analyzing the data, the researchers came up with 10 different conceptual metaphors depicting learners' beliefs about their teachers' roles. The results identified some differences between how learners view teachers' roles in an online mode of education compared to the conventional one as other studies suggest. The implications of these findings for teachers in general and language teachers in particular are discussed, highlighting what can be done to cushion the adverse effects of this novel medium of instruction. In 2019, a pandemic, COVID-19, introduced sweeping and potentially irreversible changes to many aspects of our lives, including education. COVID-19 expedited the adoption of online education in every corner of the world (WHO, 2020). However, this rapid transition to the online mode of delivery, despite some likely advantages, created havoc, as educational institutions had to quickly divert from their traditional modes of education to the online mode regardless of the country or educational setting. Naturally, under such circumstances, learners might expect more support and are highly likely to believe that their teachers should also act differently. Understanding what roles learners believe their teachers employ and what roles they should assume can be conducive to a smoother transition from the earlier traditional mode of education to the online one. Furthermore, it can muster the support system that needs to be in place. In this study, we share learners' perceptions of teachers' roles. In this study, biochemical analyses of honey produced in Hizan district of Bitlis province which is one of the important honey centers of Turkey, were performed. In the research, 7 honey samples collected from villagers dealing with beekeeping in different regions of Hizan were studied. Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), antioxidant activities, sugar, flavonoid and total phenolic levels were measured with the HPLC device. As a result, the flavonoid, sugar and total phenolic levels of 1, 4, 5 and 7 honeys were similar to the properties of natural honeys. The HMF values of all honey samples were found to be in accordance with the value determined in the Turkish Food Codex Honey Communiqué. It was determined that the honeys used in our study have scavenging properties on DPPH and ABTS radicals. In addition, the maltose value of the 3 and 5 honey samples was found to be slightly higher than that of the other honey samples. Since maltose is formed as a result of the hydrolysis of starch, it cannot be found naturally in plant juices. Honey samples with high maltose content are considered to be produced under unnatural conditions. The antioxidant and chemical properties of Bitlis-Hizan honey make them high value-added quality products. Background: Artemis deficiency is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by a combined immunodeficiency with increased cellular radiosensitivity. In this review, the clinical and genetic characteristics of 15 patients with DCLRE1C variants are presented. Methods: The demographic, clinical, immunologic, and genetic characteristics of patients with confirmed DCLRE1C variants diagnosed between 2013 and 2023 were collected retrospectively. Three patients were evaluated for radiosensitivity by the Comet assay, compared with age‐ and sex‐matched healthy control. Results: Seven patients who had severe infections in the first 6 months of life were diagnosed with T‐B‐NK+ SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency). Among them, four individuals underwent transplantation, and one of those died due to post‐transplant complications in early life. Eight patients had hypomorphic variants. Half of them were awaiting a suitable donor, while the other half had already undergone transplantation. The majority of patients were born into a consanguineous family (93.3%). Most patients had recurrent sinopulmonary infections (73.3%), and one patient had no other infection than an acute respiratory infection before diagnosis. Two patients (13.3%) had autoimmunity in the form of autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Growth retardation was observed in only one patient (6.6%), and no malignancy was detected in the surviving 11 patients during the median (IQR) of 21.5 (12–45) months of follow‐up. Three patients who had novel variants exhibited increased radiosensitivity and compromised DNA repair, providing a potential vulnerability to malignant transformation. Conclusion: Early diagnosis, radiation avoidance, and careful preparation for transplantation contribute to minimizing complications, enhancing life expectancy, and improving the patient's quality of life. This study aims to analyze the inner-city transportation modes and rank them according to some predetermined criteria for the city of Bursa. The Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) method, a Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method, was used to create a general ranking for the modes of vehicles operating within the city. A total of seven criteria that affect the choice of transportation type were considered in this study. These are price, prestige, comfort, timely arrival, safety, ease of payment, and courtesy. A group of experts was consulted to determine the importance of these criteria. Safety, on-time arrival, and courtesy were the most critical factors for this analysis. Four modes, UBER, taxi, minibus, and bus, were used as alternative transportation modes. The AHP method was used to estimate weighted average scores of seven criteria for four-mode alternatives. The AHP analysis results indicate that the most preferred inner-city transportation alternative is UBER, followed by taxi, bus, and minibus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the Turkish translations of two selected short stories from William Saroyan's My Name is Aram, paying special attention to the strategies used by translators in the transfer of details describing the daily lives of Armenian migrants in the US and their affective connections to their ancestral home. Through textual and paratextual analysis, and situating the translations in their socio-political contexts, the paper foregrounds the potential of (re)translated literature as a site for observing the changing politics of memory in a receiving culture. It concludes that, while earlier translators aligned themselves with the dominant politics of 'silence and denial', weakening the longings of Armenian characters for their 'old country', recent translators have been more meticulous about details related to the Armenian identity of characters. They reinstate the memories and yearnings erased in earlier translations, thereby contributing to newly emerging bottom-up energies challenging the official discourse and offering new channels of discussion. This research paper presents a novel approach to identifying biomarkers that can be used to prognosticate patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) eligible for neoadjuvant therapy. The study utilized survival and RNA sequencing data from a cohort of TNBC patients and identified 276 genes whose expression was related to survival in such patients. The gene expression data were then used to classify patients into two major groups based on the presence or absence of Wingless/Integrated-pathway (Wnt-pathway) and mesenchymal (Mes) markers (Wnt/Mes). Patients with a low expression of Wnt/Mes-related genes had a favorable outcome, with no deaths observed during follow-up, while patients with a high expression of Wnt/Mes genes had a higher mortality rate of 50% within 19 months. The identified gene list could be validated and potentially used to shape treatment options for TNBC patients eligible for neoadjuvant therapy providing valuable insights into the development of more effective treatments for TNBC. Our data also showed significant variation in gene expression profiles before and after chemotherapy, with most tumors switching to a more mesenchymal/stem cell-like profile. To verify this observation, we performed an in silico analysis to classify breast cancer tumors in Prediction Analysis of Microarray 50 (PAM50) molecular classes before treatment and after treatment using gene expression data. Our findings demonstrate that following drug intervention and metastasis, certain tumors undergo a transition to alternative subtypes, resulting in diminished therapeutic efficacy. This underscores the necessity for reevaluation of patients who have experienced relapse or metastasis post-chemotherapy, with a focus on molecular subtyping. Fading memory is the capability of a physical system to approach a unique asymptotic behaviour, irrespective of the initial conditions, when stimulated by an input from a certain class. Standard stimuli from the AC periodic class typically induce fading memory effects in non-volatile memristors, as uncovered for the first time back in 2016. Very recently, a deep investigation of resistance switching phenomena in a TaOx resistive random access memory cell revealed the capability of the nano-device to exhibit one of two possible oscillatory behaviours, depending upon the initial condition, when subject to a particular periodic excitation. This interesting finding was, however, left unexplained. Bistability is the simplest form of local fading memory. In a system, endowed with local fading memory under a given stimulus, the initial condition does not affect the long-term behaviour of the state as long as it is drawn from the basin of attraction of either of the distinct coexisting state-space attractors (two limit cycles for the periodically forced memristor acting as a bistable oscillator). Here, the history of the system, encoded in the initial condition, is, thus, erasable only locally through ad hoc stimulation. Motivated by the discovery of local history erase effects in our resistive random access memory cell, this study applies a powerful system-theoretic tool, enabling the analysis of the response of first-order systems to square pulse train-based periodic stimuli, known as the time-average state dynamic route, to an accurate physics-based mathematical model, earlier fitted to the nano-device, to determine a strategy for specifying the parameters of an excitation signal, consisting of the sequence of two square pulses of opposite polarity per period so as to induce various forms of monostability or multistability in the non-volatile memristor. In particular, as an absolute novelty in the literature, experimental measurements validate the theoretical prediction on the capability of the device to operate as one of two distinct oscillators, depending upon the initial condition, under a specific pulse train excitation signal. The coexistence of multiple oscillatory operating modes in the periodically forced resistive random access memory cell, an example par excellence of their unique nonlinear dynamics, may inspire the development and circuit implementation of novel sensing and mem-computing paradigms. Background: Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a genetically heterogeneous group of degenerative disorders causing progressive vision loss due to photoreceptor death. RP affects other retinal cells, including the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). MicroRNAs (miRs) are implicated in RP pathogenesis, and downregulating miR-181a/b has shown therapeutic benefit in RP mouse models by improving mitochondrial function. This study investigates the expression profile of miR-181a/b in RPE cells and the neural retina during RP disease progression. We also evaluate how miR-181a/b downregulation, by knocking out miR-181a/b-1 cluster in RPE cells, confers therapeutic efficacy in an RP mouse model and explore the mechanisms underlying this process. Results: Our findings reveal distinct expression profiles, with downregulated miR-181a/b in RPE cells suggesting a protective response and upregulated miR-181a/b in the neural retina indicating a role in disease progression. We found that miR-181a/b-2, encoded in a separate genomic cluster, compensates for miR-181a/b-1 ablation in RPE cells at late time points. The transient downregulation of miR-181a/b in RPE cells at post-natal week 6 (PW6) led to improved RPE morphology, retarded photoreceptor degeneration and decreased RPE aerobic glycolysis. Conclusions: Our study elucidates the underlying mechanisms associated with the therapeutic modulation of miR-181a/b, providing insights into the metabolic processes linked to its RPE-specific downregulation. Background: To investigate the predictable parameters associated with downgrading in patients with a Gleason score (GS) 8 (4+4) in prostate biopsy after radical prostatectomy. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 62 patients with a GS of 4+4 on prostate biopsy who underwent robotic radical prostatectomy between 2017 and 2022. Results: 38 of 62 (61.2%) were downgraded. In multivariable logistic regression model, Ga-68 prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron-emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) SUV max was independent predictor of downgrading (OR 0.904; p = 0.011) and a Logistic Regression model was constructed using the following formula: Y = 1.465–0.95 (PSMA PET/CT SUV max). The model using this variable correctly predicted the downgrading in 72.6% of patients. The AUC for PSMA PET/CT SUV max was 0.709 the cut off being 8.8. A subgroup analysis was performed in 37 patients who had no other European Association of Urology (EAU) high risk features. 25 out of 37 (67.5%) were downgraded, and 21 of these 25 had organ confined disease. Low PSMA SUV max (<8.1) and percentage of GS 4+4 biopsy cores to cancer bearing cores (45.0%) were independently associated with downgrading to GS 7. Conclusion: PSMA PET/CT can be used to predict downgrading in patients with GS 4+4 PCa. Patients with GS 4+4 disease, but no other EAU high risk features, low percentage of GS 4+4 biopsy cores to cancer bearing cores, and a low PSMA PET/CT SUV max are associated with a high likelihood of the cancer reclassification to intermediate risk group.
