This study evaluates the implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-Programme (CP) in secondary schools in Kent, United Kingdom. Launched by the IB and Kent County Council in 2012, the initiative offered students from disadvantaged areas the opportunity to participate in a programme to prepare them for future careers and/or higher education. A mixed method design was adopted to investigate the CP's impact on student outcomes and to identify successful implementation strategies. IB examination data and schools register data from 379 CP graduates were analysed in addition to interview data and online surveys (302 current CP students from 31 schools). Analysis of the interviews and surveys with IB coordinators and teachers suggest that the CP, with its focus upon local knowledge, civic responsibility and personal growth, has successfully inspired students and teachers. Successful strategies include capacity building, dedicated leadership, and collaboration between teacher teams and schools. The results demonstrate that the CP improved participation in higher education for students in a region that historically had low participation rates. The CP should therefore be of interest to policymakers and programme implementers at the national and international level with respect to inclusion and wider participation of students from more disadvantaged backgrounds. This study presents a tiered conceptualization of family partnership developed by the Family-Run Executive Director Leadership Association (FREDLA) with examples of strategies from the literature. This sub-study was part of an overarching systematic review project that aimed to review the literature on family partnership in relation to youth outcomes. The tiers of family partnership include family involvement (i.e. family's inclusion in their child's care); family engagement (i.e. collaboration between TRC and families); family-driven (i.e. families as full partners). This review included thirty studies (n = 23 family involvement, n = 7 family engagement, n = 0 family-driven). The most common family involvement methods were family therapy and family visits to the program, primarily, delivered face-to-face. The most common family engagement method was activities, therapies, and skill building occurring at the home with family present. Methods of measuring family partnership primarily included the use of administrative data. Implications for research and practice include the provision of research that evaluates the effects of family partnership on outcomes important in the TRC setting and the development of research-practice and family-research collaborations to increase the uptake of effective family partnering methods. Mentalization theory suggest bidirectional links between a caregiver's capacity to mentalize their child and emotional regulation in their children. However, there has been little empirical investigation to verify this theory. The bidirectional relationship between caregiver mentalizing and child emotional regulation may be especially important to understand in caregiving contexts where there is greater risk of relationship breakdown or child emotional dysregulation, such as in fostering relationships. This study used a novel time-sequence analysis approach to explore the putative bidirectional relationship between caregiver mentalizing and child emotional regulation in the context of long-term foster care. Existing theories about caregiver mentalizing and child emotional regulation were evaluated and developed by looking at moment-by-moment interactions between a foster carer and a child in her care. The findings of this study gave mixed support for bidirectional relationships between foster carer mentalizing, and child emotional regulation predicted by existing theoretical models. These findings have implications for refining and applying mentalization theory broadly and more specifically in the context of foster care. Furthermore, this study provides a useful example of how time-sequence analysis may be useful for exploring the links between phenomena, such as caregiver mentalizing and child emotional dysregulation, occurring over time in observational data. Whilst approaches to the development of undergraduate academic writing skills vary between disciplines and institutions, academic tutors are consistently presented as playing an important role. One aspect of this role is supporting students to engage effectively with feedback in order to develop consciousness and competence regarding academic writing. This article reports on the use of a form, which was designed to encourage students to use feedback in a structured and consistent manner and to support subsequent tutor-tutee dialogue. Students and tutors who used the form suggest it encouraged students to reflect on their learning needs and identify priority issues for discussion with the tutor. However, barriers to its effective use remain. In particular, there was resistance amongst students to accessing academic support, due to anxieties that staff would look negatively upon those who seek help. Students expressed concern that tutors would perceive those seeking support as failing to cope with the demands of independent study, a set of skills they perceive that they were required to have on arrival at university, rather than to acquire during the course of their studies with the help and guidance of their academic tutor.
