Understanding the electronic transport properties of low-dimensional devices has increased dramatically in recent decades, especially for those with a promising future for application in nanotechnology. Among these nanoscopic systems are molecular systems, particularly organic molecules such as catechol, representing the small piece of a potential conductor assembled through larger biomolecules and inserted between two or more metal contacts. In this work, we present a theoretical description of the electronic transport of catechol, based on its π -conjugated aromatic system, under an external magnetic field stimulus, which is transverse to the alignment of the molecule. Thus, we analyze catechol's spintronic properties through the magnetoresistance generated by this field. We model the molecule using a tight-binding Hamiltonian and Green's functions; the transmission probability is calculated by means of the Fisher-Lee relation, and the characteristic current–voltage, spin polarization, and magnetoresistance curves based on Landauer's approach for two linking models of catechol to the metallic contacts. The results suggest a strong dependence on the spin direction of the charge carriers and the Zeeman energy (E z) on the Fermi level, generating a switch-like mechanism going from conducting to semiconducting material. Multiphoton ionization (MPI) of alkyl iodides (RI, R = CnH2n+1, n = 1–4) has been investigated with femtosecond laser pulses centered at 800 and 400 nm along with photoelectron imaging detection. In addition, the ultraviolet (UV)–vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) absorption spectra of gas-phase RIs have been measured in the photon energy range of 5–11 eV using the VUV Fourier transform spectrometer at the VUV DESIRS beamline of the synchrotron SOLEIL facility. The use of high-laser-field strengths in matter–radiation interaction generates highly non-linear phenomena, such as the Stark shift effect, which distorts the potential energy surfaces of molecules by varying both the energy of electronic and rovibrational states and their ionization energies. The Stark shift can then generate resonances between intermediate states and an integer number of laser photons of a given wavelength, which are commonly known as Freeman resonances. Here, we study how the molecular structure of linear and branched alkyl iodides affects the UV–VUV absorption spectrum, the MPI process, and the generation of Freeman resonances. The obtained results reveal a dominant resonance in the experiments at 800 nm, which counter-intuitively appears at the same photoelectron kinetic energy in the whole alkyl iodide series. The ionization pathways of this resonance strongly involve the 6p(2E3/2) Rydberg state with different degrees of vibrational excitation, revealing an energy compensation effect as the R-chain complexity increases. Purpose: To evaluate the stone clearance rate and limitations of a novel integrated suction capability within a single-use flexible ureteroscope according to stone particle size. Methods: Varying sized stone particles were created using a stone phantom (Begostone Plus, Bego ©, Lincoln, RI, USA). Particle size ranged as follows: 63–125 µm, 125–250 µm, 250–500 µm, 500 µm- 1 mm and 1–2 mm. These were mixed with Normal saline (0.9%) to mimic in vivo conditions. The suction enabled single-use flexible ureteroscope (Pusen, Zhuhai, China) was used to aspirate stone fragments in three trials. Firstly, aspiration of 5 g of each dust range was attempted. Secondly, a direct comparison of the integrated suction to a manual syringe technique was applied to 1 g of each size range. Finally, aspiration was applied to 5 g of a heterogenous 1:1:1:1:1 mixture. Endoscopic clearance rate (g/min) and number of blockages were recorded. Each challenge was repeated three times. Results: The integrated suction cleared 100% of dust < 250 µm. Endoscopic clearance rates were significantly faster than manual aspiration (3.01 g/min versus 0.41 g/min) for dust between 125 and 250 µm (p = 0.008). Complete endoscopic clearance by 180 s (without encountering test limiting blockages) was unsuccessful for particles > 250 µm. Clearance rates were greatly limited by stone particle size heterogeneity above 250 µm, to 0.09 g/min. Conclusion: This technology works better in vitro than previously DISS evaluated methods when challenged by stone dust < 250 µm. Background: There is strong evidence supporting the association between environmental factors and increased risk of non-affective psychotic disorders. However, the use of sound statistical methods to account for spatial variations associated with environmental risk factors, such as urbanicity, migration, or deprivation, is scarce in the literature. Methods: We studied the geographical distribution of non-affective first-episode psychosis (NA-FEP) in a northern region of Spain (Navarra) during a 54-month period considering area-level socioeconomic indicators as putative explanatory variables. We used several Bayesian hierarchical Poisson models to smooth the standardized incidence ratios (SIR). We included neighborhood-level variables in the spatial models as covariates. Results: We identified 430 NA-FEP cases over a 54-month period for a population at risk of 365,213 inhabitants per year. NA-FEP incidence risks showed spatial patterning and a significant ecological association with the migrant population, unemployment, and consumption of anxiolytics and antidepressants. The high-risk areas corresponded mostly to peripheral urban regions; very few basic health sectors of rural areas emerged as high-risk areas in the spatial models with covariates. Discussion: Increased rates of unemployment, the migrant population, and consumption of anxiolytics and antidepressants showed significant associations linked to the spatial-geographic incidence of NA-FEP. These results may allow targeting geographical areas to provide preventive interventions that potentially address modifiable environmental risk factors for NA-FEP. Objective: Patient‐reported outcome measures, while valuable, may not correlate with diagnostic test results. To better understand this potential discrepancy, our objective was to determine whether psychological health is an effect modifier of the association between patient‐reported allergy outcome scores and allergy test results. Study Design: Prospective outcomes study. Setting: Tertiary care hospital and community‐based clinic. Methods: This study included 600 patients at least 18 years of age who presented for symptoms related to allergic rhinitis and completed the related sinonasal outcome test (SNOT), which includes validated nasal, allergy, and psychological domains. Stratified analyses of odds ratios and Spearman correlation coefficients were utilized to assess for effect modification by psychological status. Results: Worse patient‐reported allergic rhinitis symptoms were significantly associated with positive allergy test results (odds ratio [OR] 1.69, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.22‐2.34, P =.002) in patients with better psychological health. In contrast, there was no association in patients with worse psychological health (OR 1.06, 95% CI 0.36‐3.10, P =.92). These findings were corroborated by assessments of correlation: allergy domain scores were positively correlated with allergy testing scores (Spearman rho 0.18, 95% CI 0.10‐0.25, P <.001) in patients with better psychological health, while there was no correlation in patients with worse psychological health (−0.02, 95% CI −0.16‐0.12, P =.77). Conclusions: Psychological status was an effect modifier of the association between allergy domain and allergy testing data. When assessing the relationship between subjective measures, such as sinonasal validated instruments, and objective measures, such as allergy test results, accounting for effect modifiers such as psychological state can provide clinical and research‐related insights. Background: MEK inhibitors cause a wide spectrum of mucocutaneous toxicities which can delay or interrupt life-saving therapy. Purpose: To summarize the morphology, incidence, and clinical presentation of mucocutaneous toxicities from MEK inhibitors via a scoping review of the literature. Methods: We conducted a scoping review of the published literature, including clinical trials, retrospective and prospective studies, reviews, and case reports and series. All included literature was analyzed by a panel of pediatric and adult oncodermatologists. Results: Of 1626 initial citations, 227 articles met final inclusion criteria. Our review identified follicular reactions, ocular toxicities, xerosis, eczematous dermatitis, edema, and paronychia as the most common mucocutaneous side effects from MEK inhibitor therapy. Grade 1 and 2 reactions were the most prevalent and were typically managed while continuing treatment; however, grade 3 toxicities requiring dose reductions or treatment interruptions were also reported. Conclusion: Mucocutaneous toxicities to MEK inhibitor therapy are common and most often mild in severity. Early recognition and treatment can mitigate disruptions in oncologic therapy. Potato production in Mexico is affected by Rhizoctonia solani, causing severe yield losses. The most important criterion for distinguishing R. solani isolates is differentiation by anastomosis groups (AGs). However, the limitations of traditional AG differentiation have prompted the use of DNA sequence analysis as a valuable tool for distinguishing AGs. This study aimed to determine the diversity of anastomosis groups and the aggressiveness of R. solani isolates collected from commercial potato fields in northern Sinaloa, Mexico. A total of 118 R. solani isolates were obtained from symptomatic sprouts and tubers collected from 32 commercial fields distributed in the municipalities of Ahome, Guasave and El Fuerte in northern Sinaloa, Mexico. Fifty-two representative isolates were selected for anastomosis group determination and pathogenicity tests. Phylogenetic analysis with rpb2 gene sequences clearly distinguished 30 isolates belonging to AG-3 PT and 22 isolates to AG-4 HGI. The aggressiveness of these R. solani isolates was evaluated using mini-tubers of potato cv. Fianna, and colonized rice grains were used as inoculum source. The disease severity caused by R. solani on potato plants was evaluated 40 days after emergence. Aggressiveness was estimated as the percentage of necrotic area on underground stems. The results revealed that all R. solani isolates were pathogenic and differences were observed in aggressiveness among the isolates. Of the total of 52 isolates evaluated, 7% were highly aggressive; 61% had intermediate aggressiveness; and 32% exhibited low aggressiveness. These findings regarding the diversity of anastomosis groups and the aggressiveness of R. solani isolates in northern Sinaloa are fundamental for subsequent epidemiology and fungicide resistance studies. Objective: To characterize the diagnostic yield of patients undergoing evaluation for superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS), and identify alternative conditions diagnosed in patients suspected of, but not ultimately diagnosed with, SCDS. Methods: Diagnostically undifferentiated adult patients suspected of having SCDS were identified between 2016 and 2021 at a tertiary academic medical system. Patients were categorized by diagnostic testing, radiographic superior semicircular canal (SSC) abnormality, symptoms, evaluating clinician specialty, operative intervention, and diagnosis. Differences among groups were assessed for statistical significance. Results: Of 1242 candidate patients, 477 met inclusion criteria—evaluation by a clinician with SCDS on their differential diagnosis prior to diagnostic imaging. The mean (SD) age was 53.0 (15.0) years and 70.6% were female. A total of 364 patients underwent subsequent diagnostic imaging, and among these, 164 (45.1%) had a radiographic SSC abnormality with 99 (27.2%) receiving a diagnosis of SCDS (two cases of "near dehiscence syndrome"). One third (33.3%) of patients with SCDS underwent operative repair. Most clinicians with the initial suspicion for SCDS were otolaryngologists (90.6%), who had greater diagnostic yield than clinicians from other specialties (22.2% vs. 6.7%, p = 0.012). Patients not diagnosed with SCDS alternatively received 21 unique diagnoses and 52.1% (138/265) were not definitively diagnosed with any condition. Conclusions: This study characterizes the diagnostic incidence, or yield, of newly identified radiographic SSC abnormalities (45.1%) and SCDS (27.2%) among people suspected of having SCDS. Considerable overlap in presentation between SCDS and other conditions exists, and there is need for improvement in efficiently diagnosing patients with SCDS and audio‐vestibular complaints in general. The Statistics Teaching Inventory (STI) was designed to assess the teaching practices of U.S.-based, college-level introductory statistics instructors in a variety of institutions and departments. This instrument has now been updated to reflect current trends and recommendations in statistics education. In this study, we used the STI to examine the current state of the curricular and instructional practices being used by U.S.-based, college-level introductory statistics instructors. We explore the extent to which instructors report that their introductory statistics courses are aligned with recommended practices as outlined by the 2016 GAISE College Report. Data were collected from a sample of college-level U.S.-based, college-level introductory statistics instructors. Results based on 228 usable responses indicated that instructors, by-and-large, tended to be following the GAISE recommendations, especially related to content. However, courses may not yet be aligned with newer content recommendations (e.g., provide students opportunities to work with multivariate data), and there is still a large percentage of instructors that are not embracing student-oriented pedagogies and assessment methods. for this article are available online. Enolase is a 47 kDa enzyme that functions within the glycolysis and gluconeogenesis pathways involved in the reversible conversion of D-2-phosphoglycerate (2PGA) to phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP). However, in the context of host-pathogen interactions, enolase from different species of parasites, fungi and bacteria have been shown to contribute to adhesion processes by binding to proteins of the host extracellular matrix (ECM), such as fibronectin (FN) or laminin (LM). In addition, enolase is a plasminogen (PLG)-binding protein and induces its activation to plasmin, the main protease of the host fibrinolytic system. These secondary 'moonlighting' functions of enolase are suggested to facilitate pathogen migration through host tissues. This study aims to uncover the moonlighting role of enolase from the parasite Fasciola hepatica, shedding light on its relevance to host-parasite interactions in fasciolosis, a global zoonotic disease of increasing concern. A purified recombinant form of F. hepatica enolase (rFhENO), functioning as an active homodimeric glycolytic enzyme of ~94 kDa, was successfully obtained, fulfilling its canonical role. Immunoblotting studies on adult worm extracts showed that the enzyme is present in the tegument and the excretory/secretory products of the parasite, which supports its key role at the host-parasite interface. Confocal immunolocalisation studies of the protein in newly excysted juveniles and adult worms also localised its expression within the parasite tegument. Finally, we showed by ELISA that rFhENO can act as a parasitic adhesin by binding host LM, but not FN. rFhENO also binds PLG and enhances its conversion to plasmin in the presence of the tissue-type and urokinase-type PLG activators (t-PA and u-PA). This moonlighting adhesion-like function of the glycolytic protein enolase could contribute to the mechanisms by which F. hepatica efficiently invades and migrates within its host and encourages further research efforts that are designed to impediment this function by vaccination or drug design. Author summary: Fasciola hepatica is a parasitic worm causing fasciolosis, primarily affecting herbivorous mammals and posing a significant veterinary problem. Furthermore, it is a zoonosis, meaning it can be transmitted to humans. F. hepatica enters the definitive host through ingestion of contaminated aquatic plants, migrating through the intestine to settle in the liver bile ducts, where it matures into the adult stage. To migrate, it utilizes various invasion strategies, including the use of multifunctional proteins, known as 'moonlighting'. In this study, we produced and molecularly characterized the parasitic enzyme enolase as a moonlighting protein to understand F. hepatica invasion mechanisms. We produced recombinant enolase with glycolytic activity, its canonical function in parasite energy production. Additionally, we localised this enzyme in the parasite's tegument, in direct contact with the host, and studied its ability to elicit an immune response early in ovine infection. Finally, we demonstrated the ability of enolase to interact with the extracellular matrix and the host's fibrinolysis, a proteolytic system responsible for dissolving blood clots. These secondary functions of F. hepatica enolase, described here for the first time, along with its localisation, suggest this protein as an interesting antigen for fasciolosis control. Background: We used the Spanish national hospital discharge data from 2016 to 2022 to analyze procedures and hospital outcomes among patients aged ≥ 18 years admitted for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non–ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) according to diabetes mellitus (DM) status (non-diabetic, type 1-DM or type 2-DM). Methods: We built logistic regression models for STEMI/NSTEMI stratified by DM status to identify variables associated with in-hospital mortality (IHM). We analyzed the effect of DM on IHM. Results: Spanish hospitals reported 201,950 STEMIs (72.7% non-diabetic, 0.5% type 1-DM, and 26.8% type 2-DM; 26.3% female) and 167,285 NSTEMIs (61.6% non-diabetic, 0.6% type 1-DM, and 37.8% type 2-DM; 30.9% female). In STEMI, the frequency of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) increased among non-diabetic people (60.4% vs. 68.6%; p < 0.001) and people with type 2-DM (53.6% vs. 66.1%; p < 0.001). In NSTEMI, the frequency of PCI increased among non-diabetic people (43.7% vs. 45.7%; p < 0.001) and people with type 2-DM (39.1% vs. 42.8%; p < 0.001). In NSTEMI, the frequency of coronary artery by-pass grafting (CABG) increased among non-diabetic people (2.8% vs. 3.5%; p < 0.001) and people with type 2-DM (3.7% vs. 5.0%; p < 0.001). In the entire population, lower IHM was associated with undergoing PCI (odds ratio [OR] [95% confidence interval] = 0.34 [0.32–0.35] in STEMI; 0.24 [0.23–0.26] in NSTEMI) or CABG (0.33 [0.27–0.40] in STEMI; 0.45 [0.38–0.53] in NSTEMI). IHM decreased over time in STEMI (OR = 0.86 [0.80–0.93]). Type 2-DM was associated with higher IHM in STEMI (OR = 1.06 [1.01–1.11]). Objective: To evaluate the stone ablation rate and direct thermal damage from thulium fiber laser (TFL) lithotripsy using continuous (C) and burst (B) lasing techniques on an in vitro ureteral model. Methods: The TFL Drive (Coloplast, Humlebaek, Denmark) was used in an in vitro saline-submerged ureteral model. Ten participants, including five junior and five experienced urologists, conducted the experimental setup with 7 different settings comparing two lasing techniques: steady-state lasing (0.5 J/10 Hz = 5W for 300 s and 0.5 J/20 Hz = 10W for 150 s) and burst, intermittent 5 s on/off lasing (0.5 J/20 Hz, 0.5 J/30 Hz, 0.5 J/60 Hz, 0.1 J/200 Hz, and 0.05 J/400 Hz) with a target cumulative energy of 1500 J using cubic 125 mm3 phantom BegoStonesTM. Ureteral damage was graded 1–3 based on the severity of burns and holes observed on the surface of the ureteral model. Results: The were no significant differences in stone ablation mass neither between C and B lasing techniques, nor between expertise levels. At C lasing technique had only mild ureteral lesions with no significant differences between expertise levels (p: 0.97) or laser settings (p: 0.71). At B lasing technique, different types of thermal lesions were found with no expertise (p: 0.11) or setting (p: 0.83) differences. However, B laser setting had higher grade direct thermal lesions than C (p: 0.048). Conclusion: Regarding efficacy, C and B lasing techniques achieve comparable stone ablation rates. Safety-wise, B lasing mode showed higher grade of direct thermal lesions. These results should be further investigated to verify which of the lasing mode is the safest in vivo. Diabetes is a complex and rapidly growing disease with heterogeneous clinical presentations. Recent advances in molecular and genetic technologies have led to the identification of various subtypes of diabetes. These advancements offer the potential for a more precise, individualized approach to treatment, known as precision medicine. Recognizing high-risk phenotypes and intervening early and intensively is crucial. A staging system for type 1 diabetes has been proposed and accepted globally. In this article, we will explore the different methods for categorizing and classifying type 2 diabetes (T2D) based on clinical characteristics, progression patterns, risk of complications, and the use of molecular techniques for patient grouping. We, as a team of experts, will also present an easy-to-follow treatment plan and guidance for non-specialists, particularly primary care physicians, that integrates the classification and staging of diabetes. Introduction: Climate change and weather variability pose significant challenges to small-scale crop production systems, increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. In this context, data modeling becomes a crucial tool for risk management and promotes producer resilience during losses caused by adverse weather events, particularly within agricultural insurance. However, data modeling requires access to available data representing production system conditions and external risk factors. One of the main problems in the agricultural sector, especially in small-scale farming, is data scarcity, which acts as a barrier to effectively addressing these issues. Data scarcity limits understanding the local-level impacts of climate change and the design of adaptation or mitigation strategies to manage adverse events, directly impacting production system productivity. Integrating knowledge into data modeling is a proposed strategy to address the issue of data scarcity. However, despite different mechanisms for knowledge representation, a methodological framework to integrate knowledge into data modeling is lacking. Methods: This paper proposes developing a methodological framework (MF) to guide the characterization, extraction, representation, and integration of knowledge into data modeling, supporting the application of data solutions for small farmers. The development of the MF encompasses three phases. The first phase involves identifying the information underlying the MF. To achieve this, elements such as the type of knowledge managed in agriculture, data structure types, knowledge extraction methods, and knowledge representation methods were identified using the systematic review framework proposed by Kitchemhan, considering their limitations and the tools employed. In the second phase of MF construction, the gathered information was utilized to design the process modeling of the MF using the Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN). Finally, in the third phase of MF development, an evaluation was conducted using the expert weighting method. Results: As a result, it was possible to theoretically verify that the proposed MF facilitates the integration of knowledge into data models. The MF serves as a foundation for establishing adaptation and mitigation strategies against adverse events stemming from climate variability and change in small-scale production systems, especially under conditions of data scarcity. Discussion: The developed MF provides a structured approach to managing data scarcity in small-scale farming by effectively integrating knowledge into data modeling processes. This integration enhances the capacity to design and implement robust adaptation and mitigation strategies, thereby improving the resilience and productivity of small-scale crop production systems in the face of climate variability and change. Sotol (Dasylirion leiophyllum) grows in the Chihuahan Desert in the north of Mexico and south of the United States. The stem of this species is used to produce a liquor widely known as sotol. A field sampling and a laboratory analysis were carried out to determine the influence of the rainy season, altitude, topography, and aspect over the soluble solid content (°Brix) and bromatological variables of mature plants of sotol in Chihuahua, Mexico. Analyses of variance and Tukey tests were performed. The rainy season and altitude showed significant statistical influence (p ≤ 0.05) on the total soluble solids content; meanwhile, only altitude showed a significant effect on the bromatological variables (p ≤ 0.05). According to the results of the Tukey tests (p < 0.05), sotol plants have the highest concentrations of soluble solid contents before the rainy season (25 °Brix) and at sites with altitudes lower than 1300 m (25.95 °Brix). In addition, the means of raw protein and carbohydrates content were the highest in plants living at altitudes lower than 1500 m, at 1.93% and 31.74%, respectively. Meanwhile, topography, aspect, and the interactions of the evaluated factors did not show significant influence (p ≤ 0.05) over the total soluble solid content, nor over the bromatological variables studied. Social changes in higher education have led to a transformation in teaching innovation for developing a critical and creative mentality in students. To this end, video capsules have emerged as an optimal tool that allows combining the management of information and communication technologies and collaborative work. Video capsules were elaborated by groups of students for the virtualization of the laboratory practices of the subjects Environmental Microbiology and Biochemistry of the Degree in Environmental Sciences for two academic years (2022–2023 and 2023–2024), paying special attention to the principles of Universal Design of Learning. To assess the impact of this activity on the knowledge acquired by the students in the laboratory practices, the marks from these academic years were compared with the previous academic year (2021–2022) without the generation of video capsules. Moreover, an evaluation of the development and acquisition of cross-curricular competencies was carried out. The generation of video capsules by the students tended to increase the average grade obtained in the laboratory practices of both subjects. Furthermore, instrumental, interpersonal, and systemic competencies obtained by the students by performing the video capsules improved their transversal skills. The creation of video capsules during laboratory practices and the methodology used had a very positive direct influence on the academic outcomes of the subjects and facilitated the acquisition of transversal competencies for the students. One Health (OH) is an integrative approach to human, animal, and environmental health and can be used as a comprehensive indicator for comparative purposes. Although an OH index has been proposed for comparing cities, states, and countries, to date, no practical study has compared countries using this approach. Accordingly, this study aimed to assess OH initiatives using a survey with a veterinary public health focus. The questionnaire contained 104 quantitative questions and was sent to representatives of governmental institutions of 32 countries in the Americas. After exclusion criteria were considered, a total of 35 questionnaires from 17 countries were analyzed, with country names remaining undisclosed during the statistical analyses to protect potentially sensitive information. Principal component analysis (PCA) of health parameters in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) as a function of country perception (self-vector) showed that food safety was ranked higher than public policies (p = 0.009), and that both (p = 0.003) were ranked higher than institutional routines related to zoonosis programs. National policies in accordance with international standards, regulations, recommendations, and guidelines was considered the standout topic for public policy, with higher-ranking topics including standard. Meanwhile, challenging topics included tools, preparedness, governance, and research. Food safety showed both strengths and challenges in the coordination of its activities with other sectors. Food safety communication was scored as a strength, while foodborne diseases prevention was ranked as a challenge. Institutional routines for zoonosis maintained both strong and challenging topics in the execution and implementation of attributions and daily routine. Thus, the survey showed that topics such as access to and compliance with international guidelines and intercountry integration were ranked higher than in-country articulation, particularly among food safety, zoonoses, and environmental institutions. Hemophilia A is an X-linked disorder characterized by quantitative deficiency of coagulation factor VIII (FVIII) caused by pathogenic variants in the factor 8 (F8) gene. Our study's primary objective was to identify genetic variants within the exonic region of F8 in 50 Colombian male participants with severe hemophilia A (HA). Whole-exome sequencing and bioinformatics analyses were performed, and bivariate analysis was used to evaluate the relationship between identified variants, disease severity, and inhibitor risk formation. Out of the 50 participants, 21 were found to have 17 different pathogenic F8 variants (var). It was found that 70% (var = 12) of them were premature truncation variants (nonsense, frameshift), 17.6% (var = 3) were missense mutations, and 11.7% (var = 2) were splice-site variants. Interestingly, 35% (var = 6) of the identified variants have not been previously reported in the literature. All patients with a history of positive inhibitors (n = 4) were found to have high-impact genetic variants (nonsense and frameshift). When investigating the relationship between variant location (heavy versus light chain) and specific inhibitor risk, 75% (n = 3) of the inhibitor participants were found to have variants located in the F8 light chain (p = 0.075), suggesting that conserved domains are associated with higher inhibitor risk. In summary, we identified genetic variants within the F8 that can possibly influence inhibitor development in Colombian patients with severe HA. (1) Background: Radical prostatectomy has a high incidence of erectile dysfunction (ED). The aim was to determine if the expression of the nitric oxide synthase-3/soluble guanylate cyclase/phosphodiesterase 5 axis could be detected in buccal mucosa and if it could be differently expressed in patients with and without ED; (2) Methods: Erectile function from 38 subjects subjected to prostatectomy was evaluated using the International Index of Erectile Function-Erectile Function Domain before and one year after surgery. Nitric oxide synthase (NOS3), β1-subunit of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC), phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) expressions, and interleukin-6 and interleukin-10 content were measured in the buccal mucosa. PDE5A rs3806808 gene polymorphism was genotyped; (3) Results: One year after prostatectomy, 15 patients had recovered functional erection, and 23 showed ED. NOS3, β1-sGC, interleukin-6, and interleukin-10 expressions were not different between patients with and without ED after radical prostatectomy. Buccal mucosa levels of PDE-5 were higher in patients with ED compared to those who recovered erectile functionality. There were no differences found in the genotype of PDE5A polymorphism; (4) Conclusions: One year after prostatectomy, patients with ED had higher PDE5 levels in their buccal mucosa than patients who had recovered erectile function. (1) Background: Artificial intelligence using machine learning techniques may help us to predict and prevent obesity. The aim was to design an interpretable prediction algorithm for overweight/obesity risk based on a combination of different machine learning techniques. (2) Methods: 38 variables related to sociodemographic, lifestyle, and health aspects from 1179 residents in Madrid were collected and used to train predictive models. Accuracy, precision, and recall metrics were tested and compared between nine classical machine learning techniques and the predictive model based on a combination of those classical machine learning techniques. Statistical validation was performed. The shapely additive explanation technique was used to identify the variables with the greatest impact on weight gain. (3) Results: Cascade classifier model combining gradient boosting, random forest, and logistic regression models showed the best predictive results for overweight/obesity compared to all machine learning techniques tested, reaching an accuracy of 79%, precision of 84%, and recall of 89% for predictions for weight gain. Age, sex, academic level, profession, smoking habits, wine consumption, and Mediterranean diet adherence had the highest impact on predicting obesity. (4) Conclusions: A combination of machine learning techniques showed a significant improvement in accuracy to predict risk of overweight/obesity than machine learning techniques separately. The socioeconomic sector increasingly relies on accessible and cost-effective tools for predicting climatic conditions. This study employs a straightforward decision tree classifier model to identify similar monthly ENSO (El Niño Southern Oscillation) conditions from December 2000 to November 2023, using historically monthly ENSO Indices data from December 1950 to November 2000 as a reference. The latter is to construct monthly precipitation hindcasts for Mexico spanning from December 2000 to November 2023 through historically high-resolution monthly precipitation rasters. The model's performance is evaluated at a global and local scale across seasonal periods (winter, spring, summer, and fall). Assessment using global Hansen–Kuiper Skill Score and Heidkee Skill Score metrics indicates skillful performance across all seasons (>0.3) nationwide. However, local metrics reveal a higher spatial percent of corrects (>0.40) in winter and spring, corresponding to dry seasons, while a lower percent of corrects (<0.40) are observed in more extensive areas during summer and fall, indicative of rainy seasons, due to increased variability in precipitation. The choice of averaging method influences the degree of underestimations and overestimations, impacting the model's variability. Spearman correlations highlight regions with significant model performance, revealing potential misinterpretations of high hit rates during winter and spring. Notably, during the fall, the model demonstrates spatial skill across most of Mexico, while in the spring, it performs well in the southern and northeastern regions and, in the summer, in the northwestern areas. Integration of accurate forecasts of ENSO Indices to predict precipitation months ahead is crucial for the operational efficacy of this model, given its heavy reliance on anticipating ENSO behavior. Overall, the empirical method exhibits great promise and potential for application in other developing countries directly impacted by the El Niño phenomenon, owing to its low resource costs. Multispecies and ecosystem models, which are key for the implementation of ecosystem‐based approaches to fisheries management, require extensive data on the trophic interactions between marine organisms, including changes over time. DNA metabarcoding, by allowing the simultaneous taxonomic identification of the community present in hundreds of samples, could be used for speeding up large‐scale stomach content data collection. Yet, for DNA metabarcoding to be routinely implemented, technical challenges should be addressed, such as the potentially complicated sampling logistics, the detection of a high proportion of predator DNA, and the inability to provide reliable abundance estimations. Here, we present a DNA metabarcoding assay developed to examine the diet of five commercially important fish, which can be feasibly incorporated into routinary samplings. The method is devised to speed up the analysis process by avoiding the stomach dissection and content extraction steps, while preventing the amplification of predator DNA by using blocking primers. Tested in mock samples and in real stomach samples, the method has proven effective and shows great effectiveness discerning diet variations due to predator ecology or prey availability. Additionally, by applying our protocol to mackerel stomachs previously analyzed by visual inspection, we showcase how DNA metabarcoding could complement visually based data by detecting overlooked prey by the visual approach. We finally discuss how DNA metabarcoding‐based data can contribute to trophic data collection. Our work reinforces the potential of DNA metabarcoding for the study and monitoring of fish trophic interactions and provides a basis for its incorporation into routine monitoring programs, which will be critical for the implementation of ecosystem‐based approaches to fisheries management. Background: Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease (CJD) and fatal familial insomnia (FFI) are prion diseases characterized by severe neurodegenerative conditions and a short duration of illness. Methods: This study explores the characteristics of hospitalizations for CJD and FFI in Spain from 2016 to 2022 using the Spanish National Hospital Discharge Database (SNHDD). Results: We identified a total of 1063 hospital discharges, including 1020 for CJD and 43 for FFI. Notably, the number of hospitalized patients with FFI showed a significant peak in 2017. The average length of hospital stay (LOHS) was 13 days for CJD and 6 days for FFI, with in-hospital mortality rates (IHM) of 36.37% for CJD and 32.56% for FFI. Among CJD patients, the average LOHS was 14 days, with a significantly longer duration for those who experienced IHM. Conclusions: The presence of sepsis or pneumonia and older age were associated with a higher IHM rate among CJD patients. The total estimated cost for managing CJD and FFI patients over the study period was EUR 6,346,868. This study offers new insights into the epidemiology and healthcare resource utilization of CJD and FFI patients, which may inform future research directions and public health strategies. Aim: To evaluate the influence on peri‐implant crestal bone loss exerted by the vertical mucosal thickness and the abutment height over 12 months after placement of the restoration on subcrestal implants with change of platform, using a restoration abutment platform smaller than the implant platform. Materials and Methods: A total of 99 implants were rehabilitated in the maxillary and mandibular posterior regions. A total of 22 implants were rehabilitated in the maxilla and 77 implants in the mandible, using digitally designed customized abutments with Atlantis weborder software, from the commercial house Dentsply Sirona (Dentsply Sirona S.A., Barcelona, Spain), version 4.6.5, adapting the height to the vertical thickness of the mucosa. Clinical and radiographic monitoring begins during the surgical procedure of placement of the implant and ends 12 months afterwards. Crestal bone loss was evaluated through the Carestream® CS8100 3D radiographic equipment. Results: In all cases, the greatest loss of marginal bone occurred between the day of surgery (Tx) and placement of the rehabilitation (To). The average bone loss between both times was greater when the abutment height and vertical mucosal thickness did not exceed 3 mm. Subsequently, bone loss slowed and stabilized at 12 months. Conclusions: The minimum abutment height and the vertical mucosal thickness are factors to take into account when minimizing peri‐implant marginal bone loss, the abutment height having the greatest importance according to the clinical data obtained. In this work, laser‐induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) are generated on the surface of thin films of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) fabricated by spin coating on silicon. Previous studies have shown the appearance of LIPSS in this type of materials with femtosecond laser pulses in the near‐infrared region of the spectrum, despite the extremely low absorption of the polymer. The present work consists of an exploration of the effect of adding complexity to the femtosecond laser fields employed for irradiation. Changes in the repetition rate of the pulse train, the pulse duration, and the pulse temporal chirp are explored, and conditions for optimum LIPSS formation are identified. Background: With the arrival of disease-modifying treatments, it is mandatory to find new cognitive markers that are sensitive to Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology in preclinical stages. Objective: To determine the utility of a newly developed Learning and Associative Memory face test: LAM test. This study examined the relationship between AD cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers and performance on LAM test, and assessed its potential clinical applicability to detect subtle changes in cognitively healthy subjects at risk for AD. Methods: We studied eighty cognitively healthy volunteers from the Valdecilla cohort. 61% were women and the mean age was 67.34 years (±6.416). All participants underwent a lumbar puncture for determination of CSF biomarkers and an extensive neuropsychological assessment, including performance on learning and associative memory indices of the LAM-test after 30 min and after 1 week, and two classic word lists to assess verbal episodic memory: the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT) and the Free and Cued Selective Reminding Test (FCSRT). We analyzed cognitive performance according to amyloid status (A+ versus A–) and to ATN model (A–T–N–; A+T–N–; A+T+N–/A+T+N+). Results: Performance on the LAM-test was significantly correlated with CSF Aβ ratio. A+ participants performed worse on both learning (mean difference = 2.19, p = 0.002) and memory LAM measures than A– (mean difference = 2.19, p = 0.004). A decline in performance was observed along the Alzheimer's continuum, with significant differences between ATN groups. Conclusions: Our findings suggest that LAM test could be a useful tool for the early detection of subjects within the AD continuum, outperforming classical memory tests. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) associated with coronavirus disease 2019 varies widely in its presentation and severity, with low mortality in high-income countries. In this study in 16 Latin American countries, we sought to characterize patients with MIS-C in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) compared with those hospitalized on the general wards and analyze the factors associated with severity, outcomes, and treatment received. Study Design: An observational ambispective cohort study was conducted including children 1 month to 18 years old in 84 hospitals from the REKAMLATINA network from January 2020 to June 2022. Results: A total of 1239 children with MIS-C were included. The median age was 6.5 years (IQR 2.5-10.1). Eighty-four percent (1043/1239) were previously healthy. Forty-eight percent (590/1239) were admitted to the PICU. These patients had more myocardial dysfunction (20% vs 4%; P < 0.01) with no difference in the frequency of coronary abnormalities (P = 0.77) when compared to general ward subjects. Of the children in the PICU, 83.4% (494/589) required vasoactive drugs, and 43.4% (256/589) invasive mechanical ventilation, due to respiratory failure and pneumonia (57% vs 32%; P = 0.01). On multivariate analysis, the factors associated with the need for PICU transfer were age over 6 years (aOR 1.76 95% CI 1.25-2.49), shock (aOR 7.06 95% CI 5.14-9.80), seizures (aOR 2.44 95% CI 1.14-5.36), thrombocytopenia (aOR 2.43 95% CI 1.77-3.34), elevated C-reactive protein (aOR 1.89 95% CI 1.29-2.79), and chest x-ray abnormalities (aOR 2.29 95% CI 1.67-3.13). The overall mortality was 4.8%. Conclusions: Children with MIS-C who have the highest risk of being admitted to a PICU in Latin American countries are those over age six, with shock, seizures, a more robust inflammatory response, and chest x-ray abnormalities. Acrobasis nuxvorella Neuzing (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is a monophagous pest of Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh) K. Koch, a plant rich in tannins. When the tannins degrade, high concentrations of gallic acid are released, which are harmful to some insects. However, Acrobasis nuxvorella larvae are not affected by feeding on the plant when gallic acid is released. Therefore, it may be expected that Acrobasis nuxvorella larval gut microbiota may produce the enzyme laccase, enabling them to biotransform gallic acid into other useful molecules. Thus, the intestinal content of the insect was recovered. Among 175 bacterial isolates, 8 showed laccase activity in the range of 0.52–3.9 U/µg of protein. The isolates with laccase activity were identified as the Bacillus species: Bacillus pumilus, Bacillus safensis, Bacillus altitudinis, and Bacillus xiamenensis through 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing. This review addresses the management of urolithiasis in renal transplant recipients, a notably vulnerable group due to the unique anatomical and physiological alterations of the transplanted organ. The prevalence of nephrolithiasis in these patients varies between 0.1% and 6.3%, with a significant impact on graft longevity and function. Surgical access complications due to the renal graft's position on the iliac vessels and the variety of urinary anastomoses complicate the treatment approaches. This study evaluates the effectiveness and outcomes of percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) and ureteroscopy (URS), two primary minimally invasive strategies for managing graft stones. Through a narrative review using the PubMed and EMBASE databases, it was found that PCNL offers high stone-free rates especially beneficial for large stones, whereas URS provides a less invasive option with a lower risk of complications for small stones. Both techniques require tailored approaches based on stone composition—mostly calcium oxalate—and specific patient anatomical factors. This review underscores the importance of early diagnosis, appropriate treatment selection, and continuous post-treatment monitoring to mitigate risks and promote long-term renal function in transplant recipients. Purpose: Iatrogenic ureteral strictures (US) after endoscopic treatment for urolithiasis represent a significant healthcare concern. However, high-quality evidence on the risk factors associated with US is currently lacking. We aimed to develop a consensus statement addressing the definition, risk factors, and follow-up management of iatrogenic US after endoscopic treatment for urolithiasis. Methods: Utilizing a modified Delphi method, a steering committee developed survey statements based on a systematic literature review. Then, a two-round online survey was submitted to 25 experts, offering voting options to assess agreement levels. A consensus panel meeting was held for unresolved statements. The predetermined consensus threshold was set at 70%. Results: The steering committee formulated 73 statements. In the initial survey, consensus was reached on 56 (77%) statements. Following in-depth discussions and refinement of 17 (23%) statements in a consensus meeting, the second survey achieved consensus on 63 (86%) statements. This process underscored agreement on pivotal factors influencing US in endoscopic urolithiasis treatments. Conclusions: This study provides a comprehensive list of categorized risk factors for US following endoscopic urolithiasis treatments. The objectives include enhancing uniformity in research, minimizing redundancy in outcome assessments, and effectively addressing risk factors associated with US. The increase in incidence and geographical expansion of viruses transmitted by the Aedes mosquitoes, such as dengue (DENV) and zika (ZIKV) in the Americas, represents a burden for healthcare systems in tropical and subtropical regions. These and other under-detected arboviruses co-circulate in Costa Rica, adding additional complexity to their management due to their shared epidemiological behavior and similarity of symptoms in early stages. Since diagnostics of febrile illness is mostly based on clinical symptoms alone, we gathered acute-phase serum and urine from 399 samples of acute dengue-like cases from two healthcare facilities of Costa Rica, during an outbreak of arboviruses from July 2017 to May 2018, and tested them using molecular and serological methods. The analyses showed that of the clinically presumptive arbovirus cases that were reported, only 39.4% (n=153) of the samples were confirmed positive by RT-PCR to be DENV (DENV (10.3%), CHIKV (0.2%), ZIKV (27.3%), or mixed infections (1.5%). RT-PCR for other alphaviruses and flaviviruses, and PCR for Leptospira sp were negative. Furthermore, to assess flavivirus positivity in post-acute patients, the negative sera were tested against Dengue-IgM. 20% of sera were found positive, confounding even more the definitive number of cases, and emphasizing the need of several distinct diagnostic tools for accurate diagnostics. Molecular characterization of the prM and E genes from isolated viruses revealed that the American/Asian genotype of DENV-2 and the Asian lineage of ZIKV were circulating during this outbreak. Two different clades of DENV-2 American/Asian genotype were identified to co-circulate in the same region and a difference in the platelet and leukocyte count was noted between people infected with each clade, suggesting a putative distinct virulence. Our study sheds light on the necessity for healthcare strategies in managing arbovirus outbreaks, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive molecular and serological diagnostic approaches, as well as molecular characterization. This approach aids in enhancing our understanding of the clinical and epidemiological aspects of arboviral diseases during outbreaks. Our research highlights the need to strengthen training programs for health professionals and the need to increase research-based on laboratory evidence for diagnostic accuracy, guidance, development and implementation of public health interventions and epidemiological surveillance. A survey was conducted to investigate buried archaeological remains at Tingambato, a pre‐Tarascan classic‐epiclassic archaeological site located in the north‐central part of the State of Michoacán in western Mexico, using ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT). The aim of this study was to detect the foundations (ancient buried walls) and cavities (tombs), define the geometry of the foundations and correlate construction style and depth with relative chronological buried structures. The survey was carried out on two grids of 15 m × 37 m (Zona Verde) and 10.25 m × 36.5 m (Ballgame court), using a 200 MHz antenna for GPR and Schlumberger‐Wenner arrays for ERT. GPR 3D acquisition was carried out along parallel lines spaced 0.25 m apart in a single direction. In the first area, considering the geometric shape found at a depth of 1.35 m, we can assume the existence of a buried structure, probably wall remains. In the second area, a very diffractive zone coincides with a resistive anomaly (> 2000 ohm·m). In order to refine the GPR results, synthetic modelling and a comparison with real traces were carried out. The 1D GPR modelling allows us to precise the presence of a cavity with a rectangular cross section. Since the type of volcaniclastic avalanche deposits of the subsoil do not allow the formation of cavities of that size, we infer that it may be the remains of a tomb or an anthropogenic cavity. Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 3 (PFIC3) is a severe rare liver disease that affects between 1/50,000 and 1/100,000 children. In physiological conditions, bile is produced by the liver and stored in the gallbladder, and then it flows to the small intestine to play its role in fat digestion. To prevent tissue damage, bile acids (BAs) are kept in phospholipid micelles. Mutations in phosphatidyl choline transporter ABCB4 (MDR3) lead to intrahepatic accumulation of free BAs that result in liver damage. PFIC3 onset usually occurs at early ages, progresses rapidly, and the prognosis is poor. Currently, besides the palliative use of ursodeoxycholate, the only available treatment for this disease is liver transplantation, which is really challenging for short‐aged patients. To gain insight into the pathogenesis of PFIC3 we have performed an integrated proteomics and phosphoproteomics study in human liver samples to then validate the emerging functional hypotheses in a PFIC3 murine model. We identified 6246 protein groups, 324 proteins among them showing differential expression between control and PFIC3. The phosphoproteomic analysis allowed the identification of 5090 phosphopeptides, from which 215 corresponding to 157 protein groups, were differentially phosphorylated in PFIC3, including MDR3. Regulation of essential cellular processes and structures, such as inflammation, metabolic reprogramming, cytoskeleton and extracellular matrix remodeling, and cell proliferation, were identified as the main drivers of the disease. Our results provide a strong molecular background that significantly contributes to a better understanding of PFIC3 and provides new concepts that might prove useful in the clinical management of patients. T‐cell intracellular antigen‐1 (TIA‐1) is a key RNA‐binding protein that participates in translation regulation and RNA splicing. TIA‐1 undergoes liquid–liquid phase separation as a fundamental mechanism that enables the condensation of RNA and proteins into membraneless organelles called stress granules (SGs). However, this dynamic behavior can lead to aberrant fibril formation, implicated in neurodegenerative disorders, and must be tightly regulated. In this study, we investigated the role in the cell of histidine residues His94 and His96, responsible for Zn2+ binding. Using fluorescence microscopy, we found that the specific binding site formed by these residues is critical for SG assembly. Furthermore, it also plays a role maintaining the dynamic behavior of SG‐assembled TIA‐1. Collectively, our findings confirm the physiological relevance of TIA‐1 His94 and His96 in the Zn2+‐mediated regulatory mechanism for protection against fibril formation in SGs. (1) Background: Mental health problems are associated with negative connotations that may lead to discrimination and rejection of people diagnosed with mental disorders. The present study aimed to develop and validate a new scale (the Spanish Social Stigma Scale—S3) to assess the current level of social stigma in the general Spanish population. (2) Methods: The assessment tool was developed after reviewing the items of existing tools that represent the most appropriate indicators for the assessment of social stigma. A review was performed by volunteer subjects and by a group of experts in the field, based on the participation of 563 respondents to a survey. (3) Results: The confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the developed tool fits with the factors that determine the level of social stigma and shows good internal consistency (χ2SB = 412.0321, gl = 293, p < 0.01; BBNNFI = 0.922; CFI = 0.930; IFI = 0.931; RMSEA = 0.028 [0.022, 0.035]). (4) Conclusions: The S3 is useful for assessing knowledge, attitudes, and behavior towards people diagnosed with a mental disorder. Background and Objectives: Robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is a complex surgery with a steep learning curve (LC). No clear evidence exists for how previous laparoscopic experience affects the RARP LC. We report the LC of three surgeons with vast experience in laparoscopy (more than 400 procedures), analyzing the results of functional and oncological outcomes under the "Trifecta" concept (defined as the achievement of continence, potency, and oncological control free of biochemical recurrence). Materials and Methods: The surgical experience of the three surgeons from September 2021 to December 2022, involving 146 RARP consecutive patients in a single institution center, was evaluated prospectively. Erectile disfunction patients were excluded. ANOVA and chi-square test were used to compare the distribution of variables between the three surgeons. LC analysis was performed using the cumulative sum control chart (CUSUM) technique to achieve trifecta. Results: The median age was 65.42 (±7.34); the clinical stage were T1c (68%) and T2a (32%); the biopsy grades were ISUP 1 (15.9%), ISUP 2 (47.98), and ≥ISUP 3 (35%). The median surgical time was 132.8 (±32.8), and the mean intraoperative bleeding was 186 cc (±115). Complications included the following: Clavien–Dindo I 8/146 (5.47%); II 9/146 (6.16%); and III 3/146 (2.05%). Positive margins were reported in 44/146 (30.13%). The PSA of 145/146 patients (99%) at 6 months was below 0.08. Early continence was achieved in 101/146 (69.17%), 6-month continence 126/146 (86%), early potency 51/146 (34.9%), and 6-month potency 65/146 (44%). Surgeons "a", "b", and "c" performed 50, 47, and 49 cases, respectively. After CUSUM analysis, the "Trifecta" LC peak was achieved at case 19 in surgeon "a", 21 in surgeon "b", and 20 in surgeon "c". Conclusions: RARP LC to accomplish "Trifecta" can be significantly reduced in surgeons with previous experience in laparoscopy and be achieved at around 20 cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction:The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the rapid and widespread adoption of telehealth services. Telehealth may aid in bridging gaps in access to care. The specific impact of telehealth on opioid use disorder (OUD) and its treatment remains uncertain. Methods:A retrospective review of commercial insurance claim records within the United States was conducted to investigate the association between the COVID-19 pandemic and changes in the rates of(a) OUD treatments with and without telehealth support and (b) prescriptions for medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) with and without telehealth support among individuals diagnosed with OUD. Results:In a study population of 1,340,506 individuals, OUD diagnosis rates were 5 per 1,000 in-person and 1 per 1,000 via telehealth. COVID-19 decreased in-person OUD diagnoses by 0.89 per 1,000, while telehealth diagnoses increased by 0.83 per 1,000. In-person MOUD treatment rates increased by 0.07 per 1,000 during COVID-19, while telehealth rates remained low. The onset of COVID-19 saw a 1.13 per 1,000 higher increase in telehealth-supported MOUD treatment compared to solely in-person treatment. Laboratory made granular–granular impact craters have been used as model analogues of planetary impact craters. These kind of craters have been observed and studied using profilometry techniques that allow to retrieve important morphologic features from the impacted surface. In this work, we propose to use a Time-of-Flight camera (Microsoft Kinect One) for the acquisition of depth data. We show comparisons between the typically used technique and the analysis derived from the Time-of-Flight data. We also release craterslab, a Python library developed to automate most of the tasks from the process of studying impact craters produced by granular projectiles hitting on the surface of granular targets. The library is able to acquire, identify, and measure morphological features of impacted surfaces through the reconstruction of 3D topographic maps. Our results show that using a Time-of-Flight camera and automating the data processing with a software library for the systematic study of impact craters can produce very accurate results while reducing the time spent on different stages of the process. Resource islands are vegetative formations in arid and semi-arid ecosystems that harbor microorganisms facing extreme conditions. However, there is a limitation in the knowledge of the agricultural biotechnological potential of microorganisms present in these islands. This study aimed to determine the capacity of Bacillus velezensis C3-3 and Cytobacillus sp. T106 isolates from resource islands to promote plant growth and control the phytopathogen Rhizoctonia solani. The bacteria were sequenced, and both grew at 50 °C, resisted 5% NaCl, withstood UV exposure, and grew in extreme pH conditions. Sixty-six genes in C3-3 and 71 in T106 were identified associated with plant growth promotion, and C3-3 was shown to promote leaf growth in lettuce plants. This promotional effect was associated with the production of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA), phosphorus solubilization, and the presence of genes related to the assimilation of rhizosphere exudates. Both strains inhibited R. solani through the production of volatile compounds and antagonism. Forty-five and 40 of these genes in C3-3 and T106, respectively, were associated with the production of proteases, lipases, siderophores, antimicrobial compounds, degradation enzymes, and secretion systems. Notably, Cytobacillus sp. has not been previously reported as a biocontrol agent. This work contributes to the evidence of the biotechnological potential of semi-arid region bacteria, offering prospects for improving agricultural production in areas with limiting conditions.
