This study investigates the relationship between political orientation, government change, and public satisfaction with food policies in the Republic of Korea. Utilizing data from the Consumer Behavior Survey for Foods (CBSF) conducted by the Korea Rural Economic Institute from 2020 to 2021, we employ fixed effects models to examine the impact of political orientation, the presence of a conservative government, and their interactions on satisfaction across various dimensions of food policy. We also analyze the change in satisfaction levels from 2020 to 2021 based on shifts in political orientation. The results reveal complex dynamics between political alignment, government performance, and public perceptions. While conservatives and liberals exhibit higher satisfaction with labeling policies, they show lower satisfaction with safety and redress policies. The presence of a conservative government is associated with higher satisfaction in specific policy areas but lower overall satisfaction. Changes in political orientation significantly influence policy satisfaction, with shifts away from conservatism and towards liberalism leading to decreased satisfaction. The findings highlight the importance of understanding the nuanced preferences of different political groups and the need for responsive and transparent food policy frameworks. Challenges facing high‐voltage/high‐capacity cathodes, in addition to the longstanding problems pertinent to lithium (Li)‐metal anodes, should be addressed to develop high‐energy‐density Li‐metal batteries. This issue mostly stems from interfacial instability between electrodes and electrolytes. Conventional carbonate‐ or ether‐based liquid electrolytes suffer from not only volatility and flammability but also limited electrochemical stability window. Here, we report a nitrile electrolyte strategy based on concentrated nitrile electrolytes (CNEs) with co‐additives. The CNE consists of high‐concentration lithium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (LiFSI) in a solvent mixture of succinonitrile (SN)/acetonitrile (AN). The SN/AN solvent mixture is designed to ensure high oxidation stability along with thermal stability, which are prerequisites for high‐voltage Li‐metal cells. The CNE exhibits interfacial stability with Li metals due to the coordinated solvation structure. Lithium nitrate (LiNO3) and indium fluoride (InF3) are incorporated in the CNE as synergistic co‐additives to further stabilize solid‐electrolyte interphase (SEI) on Li metals. The resulting electrolyte (CNE + LiNO3/InF3) enables stable cycling performance in Li||LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1 and 4.9 V‐class Li||LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 cells. The discovery of a reliable electrolyte system remains one of the key challenges for the development of advanced lithium–oxygen batteries. To date, no single electrolyte is verified to be stable and compatible with both the cathode (e.g., oxygen radicals, lithium peroxide, etc.) and anode (lithium metal) for lithium–oxygen batteries. In this work, a novel liquid‐based Janus electrolyte system consisting of two different immiscible liquid phases is proposed and it is demonstrated that this system is remarkably effective in promoting the sustainable operation of redox‐mediated lithium–oxygen batteries. The liquid‐based Janus electrolyte is rationally designed by considering its compatibility with the lithium–oxygen cell environment, the solubility difference of target soluble species, and the mutual immiscibility of the two liquid phases. By combining spectral characterization, a phase‐separation experiment, and in situ observation of the electrochemical cell, it is revealed that the liquid‐based Janus electrolyte suppresses the migration of redox mediators from one liquid phase to the other, thereby preventing the detrimental shuttle effect. The enhanced stability of redox mediation leads to improved cycling performance of the cell. The various combinations possible for the liquid‐based Janus electrolyte open a new unexplored pathway for the design of advanced electrolyte systems for lithium–oxygen batteries. Separators with excellent thermal stability and electrolyte wettability are essential for high-energy-density lithiumion batteries (LIBs). In this study, polybenzimidazole (PBI) nanofiber membranes were prepared by electrospinning and subsequent thermal calendering for a high-temperature resistance and flame-retardant LIB separator. The PBI nanofiber membrane calendered at 120 oC (PBI-120) was evaluated as an LIB separator due to its overall good physical properties. PBI- 120 showed better thermal dimensional stability, electrochemical stability, ionic conductivity, and interfacial compatibility with the electrodes than did a commercial separator, Celgard 2400. The cell assembled with PBI-120 showed stable chargedischarge profiles and cycle performance. The PBI nanofiber separator was demonstrated to be a promising separator candidate for enhanced safety and electrical performance of high-energy-density LIBs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The inability to guide the nucleation locations of electrochemically deposited Li has long been considered the main factor limiting the utilization of high‐energy‐density Li‐metal batteries. In this study, an electrical conductivity gradient interfacial host comprising 1D high conductivity copper nanowires and nanocellulose insulating layers is used in stable Li‐metal anodes. The conductivity gradient system guides the nucleation sites of Li‐metal to be directed during electrochemical plating. Additionally, the controlled parameter of the intermediate layer affects the highly stable Li‐metal plating. The electrochemical behavior is confirmed through experiments associated with the COMSOL Multiphysics simulation data. The distributed Li‐ion reaction flux resulting from the controlled electrical conductivity enables stable cycling for more than 250 cycles at 1 mA cm−2. The gradient system effectively suppresses dendrite growth even at a high current density of 5 mA cm−2 and ensures Li plating and stripping with ultra‐long‐term stability. To demonstrate the high‐energy‐density full‐cell application of the developed anode, it is paired with the LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2 cathode. The cells demonstrate a high capacity retention of 90% with an extremely high Coulombic efficiency of 99.8% over 100 cycles. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-based self-assembly has garnered considerable attention as a high-fidelity ‘bottom-up’ fabrication technique. Herein, intrigued by the amphiphilic nature of DNA molecules, we demonstrate a new class of DNA-directed amphiphilic self-assembly as a chemifunctional/multiscale-structuring strategy, beyond the previously reported DNA-mediated assemblies, and explore its potential application to lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries as a proof-of-concept. DNA-directed amphiphilic self-assembly enables the formation of various structures with a wide range of dimensional scales and exceptionally low bundle/junction electrical resistance, which are difficult to achieve with conventional DNA-mediated assemblies. The amphiphilic DNA molecules interact with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) through hydrophobic π–π stacking and divalent metal ions via electrostatic interaction. This results in electrically conductive DNA/SWCNT foams with hierarchical multiscale porous structures that can act as functional scaffolds of Li–S battery cathodes. Benefiting from the above-described advantageous effects, the DNA/SWCNT scaffold allows the resultant Li–S battery to provide significantly improved electrochemical performance. Formidable challenges facing lithium-ion rechargeable batteries, which involve performance degradations and safety failures during charge/discharge cycling, mostly arise from electrode–electrolyte interface instability. Here, as a polymeric ionic liquid (PIL)-mediated interfacial control strategy to address this long-standing issue, we demonstrate a new class of molecularly designed, ion/electron-conductive nanoshields based on single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)-embedded, dual-doped mesoporous carbon (referred to as “SMC”) shells for electrode materials. The SMC shell is formed on cathode materials through solution deposition of the SWCNT/PIL mixture and subsequent carbonization. The PIL (denoted as “PVIm[DS]”) synthesized in this study consists of poly(1-vinyl-3-ethylimidazolium) cations and dodecyl sulfate counter anions, whose molecular structures are rationally designed to achieve the following multiple functions: (i) precursor for the conformal/continuous nanothickness carbon shell, (ii) dual (N and S)-doping source, (iii) porogen for the mesoporous structure, and (iv) SWCNT dispersant. Driven by such chemical/structural uniqueness, the SMC shell prevents direct exposure of cathode materials to bulk liquid electrolytes while facilitating redox reaction kinetics. As a consequence, the SMC-coated cathode materials enable significant improvements in cell performance and also thermal stability. We envision that the SMC shell can be suggested as a new concept of effective and versatile surface modification strategy for next-generation high-performance electrode materials. The excellent stability of sulfide solid electrolytes with solvate ionic liquids Li(triethylene glycol dimethyl ether)bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (Li(G3)TFSI), and their application for high‐performance, all‐solid‐state lithium‐ion batteries are successfully demonstrated. Forthcoming smart energy era is in strong pursuit of full-fledged rechargeable power sources with reliable electrochemical performances and shape versatility. Here, as a naturally abundant/environmentally friendly cellulose-mediated cell architecture strategy to address this challenging issue, a new class of hetero-nanonet (HN) paper batteries based on 1D building blocks of cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs)/multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) is demonstrated. The HN paper batteries consist of CNF/MWNT-intermingled heteronets embracing electrode active powders (CM electrodes) and microporous CNF separator membranes. The CNF/MWNT heteronet-mediated material/structural uniqueness enables the construction of 3D bicontinuous electron/ion transport pathways in the CM electrodes, thus facilitating electrochemical reaction kinetics. Furthermore, the metallic current collectors-free, CNF/MWNT heteronet architecture allows multiple stacking of CM electrodes in series, eventually leading to user-tailored, ultrathick (i.e., high-mass loading) electrodes far beyond those accessible with conventional battery technologies. Notably, the HN battery (multistacked LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (cathode)/multistacked graphite (anode)) provides exceptionally high-energy density (=226 Wh kg−1 per cell at 400 W kg−1 per cell), which surpasses the target value (=200 Wh kg−1 at 400 W kg−1) of long-range (=300 miles) electric vehicle batteries. In addition, the heteronet-enabled mechanical compliance of CM electrodes, in combination with readily deformable CNF separators, allows the fabrication of paper crane batteries via origami folding technique. A solid-state electrolyte with reliable electrochemical performance, mechanical robustness and safety features is strongly pursued to facilitate the progress of flexible batteries. Here, we demonstrate a shape-deformable and thermally stable plastic crystal composite polymer electrolyte (denoted as "PC-CPE") as a new class of solid-state electrolyte to achieve this challenging goal. The PC-CPE is composed of UV (ultraviolet)-cured ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylate (ETPTA) macromer/close-packed Al2O3 nanoparticles (acting as the mechanical framework) and succinonitrile-mediated plastic crystal electrolyte (serving as the ionic transport channel). This chemical/structural uniqueness of the PC-CPE brings remarkable improvement in mechanical flexibility and thermal stability, as compared to conventional carbonate-based liquid electrolytes that are fluidic and volatile. In addition, the PC-CPE precursor mixture (i.e., prior to UV irradiation) with well-adjusted rheological properties, via collaboration with a UV-assisted imprint lithography technique, produces the micropatterned PC-CPE with tunable dimensions. Notably, the cell incorporating the self-standing PC-CPE, which acts as a thermally stable electrolyte and also a separator membrane, maintains stable charge/discharge behavior even after exposure to thermal shock condition (=130 °C/0.5 h), while a control cell assembled with a carbonate-based liquid electrolyte and a polyethylene separator membrane loses electrochemical activity. ABSTRACT Amphiphilic, biocompatible poly( N-vinylpyrrolidone)- b-poly( l-lactide) (PVP- b-PLLA) block polymers were synthesized at 60 °C using a hydroxyl-functionalized N,N-diphenyldithiocarbamate reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) agent, 2-hydroxyethyl 2-( N,N-diphenylcarbamothioylthio)propanoate (HDPCP), as a dual initiator for RAFT polymerization and ring-opening polymerization (ROP) in a one-step procedure. 4-Dimethylamino pyridine was used as the ROP catalyst for l-lactide. The two polymerization reactions proceeded in a controlled manner, but their polymerization rates were affected by the other polymerization process. This one-step procedure is believed to be the most convenient method for synthesizing PVP- b-PLLA block copolymers. A new class of highly thin, deformable, and safety-reinforced plastic crystal polymer electrolytes (N-PCPEs) is demonstrated as an innovative solid electrolyte for potential use in high-performance flexible lithium-ion batteries with aesthetic versatility and robust safety. The unusual N-PCPEs are fabricated by combining a plastic crystal polymer electrolyte with a porous polyethylene terephthalate (PET) nonwoven. Herein, the three-dimensional reticulated plastic crystal polymer electrolyte matrix is formed directly inside the PET nonwoven skeleton via in-situ UV-crosslinking of ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylate (ETPTA) monomer, under co-presence of plastic crystal electrolyte. The PET nonwoven is incorporated as a compliant skeleton to enhance mechanical/dimensional strength of N-PCPE. Owing to this structural uniqueness, the N-PCPE shows significant improvements in the film thickness and deformability with maintaining advantageous features (such as high ionic conductivity and thermal stability) of the PCE. Based on structural/physicochemical characterization of N-PCPE, its potential application as a solid electrolyte for flexible lithium-ion batteries is explored by scrutinizing the electrochemical performance of cells. The high ionic conductance of N-PCPE, along with its excellent deformability, plays a viable role in improving cell performance (particularly at high current densities and also mechanically deformed states). This study quantifies the structure similarity of nontariff measures between countries and estimates its impact on bilateral agricultural trade using a structural gravity model. The findings show that a similar structure of technical barriers to trade (TBT) between countries is likely to expand their bilateral trade. However, a similar structure of sanitary and phytosanitary measures (SPS) is shown to have negative impacts on agricultural trade. The first synthesis of a triphenylmethine (TM) library of compounds and screening of their Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) capability was carried out to identify novel Raman reporters with high sensitivity. We identified three novel SERS reporters (B2, B7, and C7) with higher signal intensity than that of commonly used crystal violet (CV). Climate change is expected to affect the occurrence of forest pests. This study depicts a method to measure the impact of damage inflicted by a forest pest like oak wilt as a result of climate change. We determine the damage function considering the factors related to the pest damage and forecast the future damage rate under future climate change. We estimated the damage rate by using the quasi-maximum likelihood estimation (QMLE) and predicted the future damage rate by using representative concentration pathways (RCP) 8.5 data. We assessed the impact of pests on the management income and the rotation age by using a dynamic optimization model. The results show that the damage rate and the affected area from oak wilt would increase under the climate change. In addition, the economic evaluation indicates that altered climate would reduce the management returns and increase uncertainty. Despite their potential advantages over currently widespread lithium‐ion batteries, lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries are not yet in practical use. Here, for the first time bipolar all‐solid‐state Li–S batteries (ASSLSBs) are demonstrated that exhibit exceptional safety, flexibility, and aesthetics. The bipolar ASSLSBs are fabricated through a solvent‐drying‐free, ultraviolet curing‐assisted stepwise printing process at ambient conditions, without (high‐temperature/high‐pressure) sintering steps that are required for inorganic electrolyte‐based all‐solid‐state batteries. Two thermodynamically immiscible and nonflammable gel electrolytes based on ethyl methyl sulfone (EMS) and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (TEGDME) are used to address longstanding concerns regarding the grain boundary resistance of conventional inorganic solid electrolytes, as well as the polysulfide shuttle effect in Li–S batteries. The EMS gel electrolytes embedded in the sulfur cathodes facilitate sulfur utilization, while the TEGDME gel composite electrolytes serve as polysulfide‐repelling separator membranes. Benefiting from the well‐designed cell components and printing‐driven facile processability, the resulting bipolar ASSLSBs exhibit unforeseen advancements in bipolar cell configuration, safety, foldability, and form factors, which lie far beyond those achievable with conventional Li–S battery technologies. This study assessed the damage and the potential economic threat of pine wilt disease, which is the most common disease caused by forest-integrated pests in Korea. To estimate the rate of damage by pine wilt disease, a structural damage function was implemented. The nonlinear panel probit model and the generalized estimated equation (GEE) were used for the estimation. The estimated damage function and representative concentration pathways (RCP)8.5 data were used to predict the future damage rate by pests caused by climate change. In the assessment of the economic impact on forests, the dynamic optimization model was introduced. The concept of environmental payment was introduced to consider the economic value of non-timber benefits. For the economic analysis, three scenarios were established, i.e., no pest outbreak (baseline), pest infestation (no control), and pest infestation (prevention and control), and the forest management revenues that included the wood and non-wood materials for each scenario were compared. On the basis of the results of the analysis, a simulation was conducted to investigate the changes in forest management revenues according to changes in timber market prices, environmental payments, and climate change. The prediction results confirmed that the future damage by pine wilt disease and the extent of the damaged areas will increase as a consequence of climate change. In addition, the analysis of the economic impact showed that the increase of pest damage caused by climate change will worsen the forest management revenues. As pest damage brought on by climate change is expected to increase uncertainties and economic losses, there is a marked need to review the policies that so far have been focusing only on post-response tasks. We examine the impact of current and future climate on crop mixes over space in the US. We find using historical data that temperature and precipitation are among the causal factors for shits in crop production location and mixes, with some crops being more sensitive than others. In particular, we find that when temperature rises, cotton, rice, sorghum and winter wheat are more likely to be chosen. We also find that barley, sorghum, winter wheat, spring wheat and hay are more likely to be chosen as regions become drier, and corn, cotton, rice and soybeans are more likely to be selected in wetter regions. Additionally, we assess how much of the observed crop mix shifts between 1970 and 2010 were contributed to by climate change. There we find climate explains about 7-50% of the shift in latitude, 20-36% in longitude and 4-28% of that in elevation. Finally, we estimate climate change impacts on future crop mix under CMIP5 scenarios. There we find shifts in US production regions for almost all major crops with the movement north and east.
