This article examines the complications and risk factors associated with foreign bodies (FBs) in the external auditory canal (EAC). The study analyzed 455 cases over an 8-year period and found that younger age, longer duration of impaction, nongraspable and animate FBs, and FBs touching the tympanic membrane (TM) were independent risk factors for complications. The authors recommend prompt removal of FBs and direct referral to an otolaryngologist for patients with these risk factors. The findings can be used to inform triage and treatment decisions for patients with FBs in the EAC. [Extracted from the article]
