Purpose: Amidst the rarity of High-grade transformation (HGT) in adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC), this study offers unprecedented insights into its aggressive nature and clinical implications. Methods: A 1:1 match comparison between 23 HGT patients and non-HGT counterparts was extracted from 412 ACC cases, focusing on dissecting distinctive clinicopathological features and prognostic outcomes. Results: The predominant sites of HGT were the sinonasal and lacrimal glands (30.4% each). Notably, the solid subtype was the most prevalent pattern within HGT, accounting for 69.6% of cases. Compared to non-HGT, the HGT cohort exhibited significantly higher rates of lymph node metastasis (39.1% vs. 8.7%; P < 0.05), perineural invasion (60.9% vs. 26.1%; P < 0.05), and increased Ki-67 proliferation index (35.0% vs. 10.0%; P < 0.05). Moreover, HGT regions typically showed reduced or absent p63 expression, along with high-grade pathomorphology. HGT was associated with increased recurrence (55.0%) and distant metastasis (78.3%), leading to an average survival of 35.9 months and a 3-years mortality rate of 35.0%. Overall and progression-free survival rates were significantly decreased in the HGT group. Conclusion: This study represents the largest single-center cohort of HGT cases to our knowledge, highlighting its frequent occurrence in the sinonasal and lacrimal glands and association with poorer outcomes. The study aimed to observe the efficacy and safety of an all-oral bedaquiline (BDQ)-containing regimen for pediatric multidrug/rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/RR-TB) through a multicenter, retrospective study in China. In the study, pediatric patients receiving all-oral BDQ-containing regimen (BDQ group) with clinical matched control group were included, the control group received an injection-containing regimen. The treatment outcomes and the incidence of adverse events (AEs) were compared and analyzed. 79 pediatric patients were enrolled, including 37 cases in BDQ group and 42 cases in the control group, the median age was 12 {8–16} and 11 {9–15} in both groups respectively. Favorable treatment outcome and cure rate in BDQ group were significantly higher than those in control group (100%vs 83.3%, p 0.03; 94.6%vs 63.3%, p 0.00). Median time of sputum culture conversion in BDQ group was significantly shorter than that in the control group (4 weeks vs 8 weeks, p 0.00). The incidence of AEs in the BDQ group was significantly less than that in the control group (48.6% vs 71.4%, p 0.03). No AEs leading to treatment discontinuation of BDQ occurred. Background: International migration has accelerated the HIV-1 spread across national borders, gradually reducing the restrictions on the geographical distribution of HIV-1 subtypes. Subtypes A and G are globally recognized as the third and sixth most dominant HIV-1 genotypes, mainly prevalent in Africa, but rarely detected in China. Here we reported an imported HIV-1 recombinant which was composed of sub-subtypes A1 and A7 of subtype A and subtype G genes in a Chinese female. This virus was the first HIV-1 recombinant including A7 genes reported in the world. Case presentation: The near full-length genome (NFLG) was obtained from the plasma sample of the female in an HIV-1 molecular epidemiological survey with 853 participants in China. Phylogenetic analyses showed that this NFLG sequence contains three A7 segments, four G segments and one A1 segment with seven breakpoints, and all these segments were closely related to HIV-1 references circulating in Africa. The evidence from epidemiological investigation indicated that this female participant had a more-than-two-years heterosexual contact history with a fixed partner from Nigeria, a country in west Africa, which further supported the results of phylogenetic analyses. By the Bayesian phylogenetic analyses, the times of most recent common ancestors (tMRCA) of the partial pol gene (nt2308-3284, A7 region) and full-length vpr-vpu plus partial env gene (nt5534-6858, G region) were estimated around 1989 and 1984, respectively. Conclusions: In this study, by using the NFLG sequencing, we identified an imported HIV-1 A1/A7/G recombinant which was estimated to originate around 1980s in Africa and introduced into China with international migration. This study highlighted the complexity of the global HIV-1 epidemic, the necessity of using genome sequences to determine HIV-1 genotypes and the importance of real-time monitoring of HIV-1 infection among international migrants and travelers. The Wnt/β-catenin pathway is critical to maintaining cell fate decisions. Recent study showed that liquid–liquid-phase separation (LLPS) of Axin organized the β-catenin destruction complex condensates in a normal cellular state. Mutations inactivating the APC gene are found in approximately 80% of all human colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the molecular mechanism of the formation of β-catenin destruction complex condensates organized by Axin phase separation and how APC mutations impact the condensates are still unclear. Here, we report that the β-catenin destruction complex, which is constructed by Axin, was assembled condensates via a phase separation process in CRC cells. The key role of wild-type APC is to stabilize destruction complex condensates. Surprisingly, truncated APC did not affect the formation of condensates, and GSK 3β and CK1α were unsuccessfully recruited, preventing β-catenin phosphorylation and resulting in accumulation in the cytoplasm of CRCs. Besides, we propose that the phase separation ability of Axin participates in the nucleus translocation of β-catenin and be incorporated and concentrated into transcriptional condensates, affecting the transcriptional activity of Wnt signaling pathway. FDA’s experience to date has shown that completion of stability data requirements is one of the most observed challenges for applicants of New Drug Applications (NDAs) with an expedited review designation. Since NDAs submitted under these expedited pathways often have limited available real-time stability data from the primary batches, Modeling Approaches to Reimagine Stability (MARS) have been proposed to support establishment of tentative retest periods of the drug substance and/or expiration dating period (shelf-life) of the drug product. MARS incorporate statistical principles and available tools as a part of the predictive models. In this study, a data mining exercise has been conducted with regulatory submissions of Investigational New Drug (IND) Applications, NDAs, and Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) containing MARS data. The case studies presented herein demonstrate how MARS data has been applied to regulatory scenarios involving prediction of retest and/or shelf-life, bridging major development changes, and confirming that no degradation has been observed or predicted. Using the assumption of a linear time trend for those cases that do not display sufficient degradation to conduct MARS for projection of an expiration date, an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) model is developed and described herein to test the hypothesis of zero slope by a p-value method. Our results show that the application of MARS adequately supported establishment of a tentative commercially viable retest date/shelf-life, thus enabling earlier access to critical drugs for patients with unmet medical needs. Based on density functional theory (DFT), the geometric structures, stability as well as electronic and spectral properties of P2On (1 ≤ n ≤ 10) clusters are studied by using the Gaussian 09 software. The energy gap of the clusters first increases and then decreases with the increasing number n of O atoms, and P2O6 exhibits the largest energy gap and hence the highest chemical stability among the clusters. On account of the largest distance between the two peaks on both side of the Fermi energy level in density of state (DOS) for P2O6 in the clusters, which may support the highest stability of this system. The ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectra are also calculated. P2O2 is likely to be applied as potential UV-absorbing materials in view of the relatively strong absorption in UV region. Meanwhile, P2O7 has the most extensive and strongest absorption in visible region and may exhibit the best visible light activity and potential visible light catalytic performance. Based on density functional theory (DFT), the geometric structures of POmHn (1 ≤ m ≤ 5, 1 ≤ n ≤ 3) clusters are optimized, and their relative stability, electronic and spectral properties are calculated systematically. It is found that the H atoms in the clusters are more likely to combine with O atoms to form hydroxyl groups except PO3H. Due to the stronger bonding, the average binding energy, energy gap and stability of the clusters is relatively higher. All the clusters are polar molecules, with PO4H3 having the smallest dipole. The electronic properties of POmHn clusters are related to the geometric structure and m value, especially the phosphate clusters show the highest electronic stability. The infrared and Raman spectra of POmHn clusters have more vibration peaks at m = 3 and 4, both showing relatively high infrared and Raman activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Pharmacological modulation of cannabinoid 2 receptor (CB2R) is a promising therapeutic strategy for pulmonary fibrosis (PF). Thus, to develop CB2R selective ligands with new chemical space has attracted much research interests. This work aims to discover a novel CB2R agonist from an in-house library, and to evaluate its therapeutic effects on PF model, as well as to disclose the pharmacological mechanism. Methods: Virtual screening was used to identify the candidate ligand for CB2R from a newly established in-house library. Both in vivo experiments on PF rat model and in vitro experiments on cells were performed to investigate the therapeutic effects of the lead compound and underlying mechanism. Results: A "natural product-like" pyrano[2,3-b]pyridine derivative, YX-2102 was identified that bound to CB2R with high affinity. Intraperitoneal YX-2102 injections significantly ameliorated lung injury, inflammation and fibrosis in a rat model of PF induced by bleomycin (BLM). On one hand, YX-2102 inhibited inflammatory response at least partially through modulating macrophages polarization thereby exerting protective effects. Whereas, on the other hand, YX-2102 significantly upregulated CB2R expression in alveolar epithelial cells in vivo. Its pretreatment inhibited lung alveolar epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in vitro and PF model induced by transforming growth factor beta-1 (TGF-β1) via a CB2 receptor-dependent pathway. Further studies suggested that the Nrf2-Smad7 pathway might be involved in. The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) Community hosted two virtual panel discussions focusing on several novel regulatory review pathways for innovative oncology products: Real-Time Oncology Review (RTOR), Project Orbis, and the Product Quality Assessment Aid (PQAAid). The panel sessions were held on August 27, 2021, for the discussion of RTOR, and January 21, 2022, for the discussion of Project Orbis and the PQAAid. Both panel sessions included representatives from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and subject matter experts from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, with the aim of facilitating knowledge sharing on CMC-specific advantages, challenges, eligibility criteria for participation, and operational modifications instituted through the utilization of these acceleration initiatives. Key topics included managing cross-regional regulatory CMC requirements, adapting to expedited development timelines, coordinating interactions between health authorities and industry, and potential opportunities for future improvement and expansion of these programs. As RTOR, Project Orbis, and PQAAid are relatively new initiatives, the experiences shared by the panel experts are valuable for providing deeper insight into these new regulatory pathways and processes. Cu/Al compound materials, named as copper-clad aluminum bus bars, are widely used in heat dissipation of modern engineering. The thermal cycle tests were conducted at 200, 250 and 300 °C for different cycle times, respectively. Effects of thermal cycle temperatures and thermal cycle times on microstructures and mechanical properties of the interface were studied. The results show that the width of bonding layer and bond strength are significantly affected by thermal cycle temperatures and times. Nonetheless, the variety or the quantity of intermediate compounds is scarcely influenced. Al2Cu, Cu9Al4 and CuAl were identified on the interface. With the increase in cycle times, grains of the material grew up. However, grains of the interface grew up more apparently than those of Cu and Al. Background: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and enteric parasite co-infection not only aggravates the clinical symptoms of parasites but also accelerates acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) progression. However, co-infection research on men who have sex with men (MSM), the predominant high-risk population of HIV/AIDS in China, is still limited. In this study, we investigated the epidemiology of enteric parasites, risk factors, and associations with clinical significance in an MSM HIV/AIDS population in Heilongjiang Province, northeast China. Methods: We recruited 308 MSMs HIV/AIDS patients and 199 HIV-negative individuals in two designated AIDS hospitals in Heilongjiang between April 2016 and July 2017. Fresh stool samples were collected. DNA extraction, molecular identification, and genotyping of Cryptosporidium species, Entamoeba histolytica, Cyclospora cayetanensis, Enterocytozoon bieneusi, and Blastocystis hominis were performed. Fourteen diarrhea-related pathogens were examined to exclude the influence of other bacterial pathogens on diarrhea incidence. Results: 31.5% of MSM HIV/AIDS participants were infected with at least one parasite species, a significantly higher proportion than that found in the HIV-negative individuals (2.5%). E. bieneusi presented the highest prevalence, followed by B. hominis, E. histolytica, Cryptosporidium spp., and C. cayetanensis. Warm seasons were the risk factor for parasitic infections in this population [odds ratio (OR) = 2.6, 95% CI: 1.47–4.57]. In addition, these individuals showed a higher proportion (35.8%) of present diarrhea (PD) compared with men who have sex with women (MSW) with HIV/AIDS (16.7%). The infection proportions of both Cryptosporidium spp. and E. histolytica were significantly higher in the PD. E. bieneusi infection was more prevalent in the historic diarrhea (HD) group. CD4+ T cell counts in the MSM patients with the above three parasites were significantly lower. New species and genotypes were found, and MSM patients had a wider range of species or genotypes. Conclusions: Enteric parasitic infection was prevalent in the MSM HIV/AIDS population, especially in patients with present diarrhea during warm seasons. We also try to track the possible sources, risk factors, and any associations, with clinical significance, of human parasitic infections. Such knowledge will provide insights into prognosis, treatment, and preventive strategies against infections with such pathogens. Background: The mortality rate remains high among patients with coinfection with Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP) and HIV. The timing for initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) after a diagnosis of moderate to severe PCP remains controversial, however. We therefore designed the present study to determine the optimal timing for ART initiation in AIDS-associated PCP (AIDS/PCP) patients.Methods: This was a multicenter, observational, prospective clinical trial. Eligible participants were recruited from 14 hospitals in mainland China, and assigned to an Early ART arm (initiation of ART ≤ 14 days after PCP diagnosis) and a Deferred ART arm (initiation of ART > 14 days after PCP diagnosis). The primary outcomes were death and the incidence of AIDS-defining events at week 48. The secondary outcomes were the changes in CD4+ T-cell counts from baseline values at weeks 12, 24, and 48, the virological suppression rate at week 24 and week 48, the rate of development of PCP-associated immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (PCP/IRIS), and the rate of adverse events over 48 weeks.Results: The present study was performed using the data of 363 participants, with 169 participants in the Early ART arm, and 194 participants in the Deferred ART arm. Immunological and virological outcomes were found to be similar in both treatment arms. At week 48, there were no significant differences for the incidence of mortality (20 vs. 26, p = 0.860), and AIDS-defining events (17 vs. 26, p = 0.412). Over 48 weeks, the rates of PCP/IRIS (2 vs. 3, p = 1.000), adverse events (70 vs. 72, p = 0.465), and grade 3 or 4 adverse events (28 vs. 34, p = 0.919) did not reach statistical significance. A significant difference observed between two study arms was that 11 participants (55.0%) in the Early ART arm compared to 23 participants (88.5%) in the Deferred ART arm (p = 0.026) succumbed before ART had ever been started.Conclusions: Early ART initiation results in no increase in mortality, AIDS-defining events, IRIS, adverse events, and immunological or virological outcomes. These results support the early initiation of ART in patients with moderate to severe AIDS/PCP. Lignin‐first depolymerization of lignocellulosic biomass into aromatics is of great significance to sustainable biorefinery. However, it remains a challenge, owing to the variance between lignin sources and structures. In this study, ruthenium supported on carbon nanotubes (Ru/CNT) exhibits efficient catalytic activity toward lignin hydrogenolysis to exclusively afford monophenols in high yields. Catalytic tests indicate that the yields of aromatic monomers are related to lignin sources and decrease in the order: hardwoods > herbaceous plants > softwoods. Experimental results demonstrate that the scission of C−O bonds and the high selectivity to monomeric aromatic compounds over the Ru/CNT catalyst are enhanced by avoiding side condensation. Furthermore, the fabricated Ru/CNT shows good reusability and recyclability, applicability, and biomass feedstock compatibility, rendering it a promising candidate for lignin valorization. Composition and diversity in gut microbiota are impacted by a wide variety of factors. The similarity of gut microbiota in related or sympatric species has been gaining recent traction. Here, 16S rRNA gene sequencing technology was employed to study the gut microbiota of three sympatric frog species, namely Odorrana tormota, O. graminea, and Amolops wuyiensis. In these three frog species, the most abundant phylum was Proteobacteria, followed by Bacteroidetes, Verrucomicrobia, and Firmicutes. The most abundant family was Burkholderiaceae in three species. The most dominant genera were Burkholderia, Caballeronia, and Paraburkholderia with the highest relative abundance in O. tormota, O. graminea, and A. wuyiensis, respectively. No differences were observed in alpha diversity indexes among the three frog species. However, bacterial similarity of gut microbiota was significantly different between O. tormota and A. wuyiensis and between O. graminea and A. wuyiensis. Metabolism‐related gene function was predominantly enriched in the gut microbiota of the three evaluated frog species. From these findings, that the relative abundance of the gut microbiota and predicted gene functions differed in three species, we conclude that there were significant differences in the gut microbiota of the three species. Similar alpha diversity and interspecific bacterial similarity in the gut might be related to bacterial transmission among the three Anura frogs evaluated in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

N-methyl-d-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) dysfunction in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) participates in regulating many neurological and psychiatric disorders such as drug addiction, chronic pain, and depression. NMDARs are heterotetrameric complexes generally composed of two NR1 and two NR2 subunits (NR2A, NR2B, NR2C and NR2D). Much attention has been focused on the role of NR2A and NR2B-containing NMDARs in a variety of neurological disorders; however, the function of NR2C/2D subunits at NAc in chronic pain remains unknown. In this study, spinal nerve ligation (SNL) induced a persistent sensory abnormity and depressive-like behavior. The whole-cell patch clamp recording on medium spiny neurons (MSNs) in the NAc showed that the amplitude of NMDAR-mediated excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) was significantly increased when membrane potential held at −40 to 0 mV in mice after 14 days of SNL operation. In addition, selective inhibition of NR2C/2D-containing NMDARs with PPDA caused a larger decrease on peak amplitude of NMDAR-EPSCs in SNL than that in sham-operated mice. Appling of selective potentiator of NR2C/2D, CIQ, markedly enhanced the evoked NMDAR-EPSCs in SNL-operated mice, but no change in sham-operated mice. Finally, intra-NAc injection of PPDA significantly attenuated SNL-induced mechanical allodynia and depressive-like behavior. These results for the first time showed that the functional change of NR2C/2D subunits-containing NMDARs in the NAc might contribute to the sensory and affective components in neuropathic pain. Purpose: Hexokinase-II (HK-II) is the key enzyme in the first rate-limiting step of glycolysis that catalyzes the conversion of glucose to glucose-6-phosphate. Here, we examined the association between HK-II expression and radioresistance in laryngeal carcinoma and whether the inhibition of HK-II expression can enhance the radiosensitivity of these tumors. Methods: The effects of HK-II small interfering RNA (siRNA) on the radiosensitivity of Tu212 cells were examined in vitro and in vivo in a mouse model. Cells were irradiated using a 6-MV linear accelerator. The cell viability, cell survival, proliferation, apoptosis, and cell cycle of Tu212 cells were evaluated using trypan blue staining, colony formation assays, CCK-8 assays, and flow cytometry, respectively. Oxygen consumption, lactic acid production, glucose consumption, and the ATP level of Tu212 cells were also examined. The expression of glycolytic and regulatory enzymes involved in the tricarboxylic acid cycle was assessed using Western blotting. Results: The HK-II siRNA and X-ray combination treatment led to a significantly greater reduction of cell viability, inhibition of cell survival and proliferation, increased apoptosis, and increased G2 phase arrest compared to either treatment alone (all, P< 0.01). HK-II siRNA increased the oxygen consumption rate of cells, significantly inhibited lactic acid production and glucose consumption, and significantly suppressed the upregulation of HK-II, pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2), pyruvate dehydrogenase (PDH), phosphofructokinase platelet (PFKP), lactate dehydrogenase (LD), and citrate synthase (CS) (all, P< 0.01). Conclusion: The inhibition of HK-II by siRNA enhances the radiosensitivity of laryngeal carcinoma Tu212 cells by inhibiting glycolysis and partially inhibiting oxidative phosphorylation. Background: Lung cancer is a common malignant tumor that threatens human life and is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Calreticulin (CALR) is a antigen characteristic of immunogenic cell death in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which is closely related to anti-tumor immunity, but its specific mechanism in anti-tumor immunity remains unclear. Methods: Immunohistochemical staining was performed to detect the expression of CALR and dendritic cell-lysosome-associated membrane glycoprotein (DC-LAMP) in NSCLC tissues. The cell supernatant was used to induce migration and maturation of dendritic cells (DCs). Western blot and real-time PCR were used to investigate the corresponding molecule expression in the CALR-Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-MyD88 signaling pathway. In vivo experiments were conducted to evaluate the role of mCALR in lung cancer progression. Results: The expression of CALR on NSCLC cell membrane (mCALR) and DC infiltration in NSCLC were positively correlated and were closely related to the prognosis of NSCLC patients. Moreover, mCALR facilitated the migration and maturation of DCs by activating CALR-TLR4-MyD88 signaling and increasing the secretion of TNFα and CCL19, which was inhibited by the loss of TLR4. In vivo experiments demonstrated that mCALR inhibited lung cancer progression by facilitating DC infiltration in lung cancer tissues. Conclusion: Our study explores the function and mechanism of the CALR-TLR4 complex in DC migration and maturation and investigates the inhibitory effect of the CALR-TLR4 complex on lung cancer progression, providing a theoretical basis and ideas for immunotherapy of NSCLC. Background: Cryptococcal meningitis (CM) remains a leading cause of death in HIV-infected patients, despite advances in CM diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. This study was performed with the aim to develop and validate a novel scoring model to predict mortality risk in HIV-infected patients with CM (HIV/CM).Methods: Data on HIV/CM inpatients were obtained from a Multicenter Cohort study in China. Independent risk factors associated with mortality were identified based on data from 2013 to 2017, and a novel scoring model for mortality risk prediction was established. The bootstrapping statistical method was used for internal validation. External validation was performed using data from 2018 to 2020.Results: We found that six predictors, including age, stiff neck, impaired consciousness, intracranial pressure, CD4+ T-cell count, and urea levels, were associated with poor prognosis in HIV/CM patients. The novel scoring model could effectively identify HIV/CM patients at high risk of death on admission (area under curve 0.876; p<0.001). When the cut-off value of 5.5 points or more was applied, the sensitivity and specificity was 74.1 and 83.8%, respectively. Background: This study aims to evaluate the use and effectiveness of case management in clinical nursing education. Methods: A sample of 181 nurses at the N3–N5 level were selected for clinical nursing education and divided into two groups using the random number method. The control group (n = 90) received traditional training, and the observation group (n = 91) received a case management model of training. The theoretical knowledge, nursing skills, training satisfaction, job stress, workplace mindfulness, career satisfaction, and job happiness of the two groups were compared. In addition, 50 patients were selected as subjects for each group, and their satisfaction with the nursing care that they received was also measured and compared. Results: Theoretical knowledge and nursing skills scored higher in the observation group than in the control group (p < 0.05), and overall training satisfaction was higher in the observation group than in the control group (p < 0.05). After training, job stress in the observation group was lower than in the control group (p < 0.05), while workplace mindfulness, career satisfaction, and job happiness were higher in the observation group than in the control group (p < 0.05). In terms of nursing quality, on all indicators, the observation group scored higher than the control group (p < 0.05), and the patients' nursing satisfaction scores were higher in the observation group than in the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Case management can improve the professionalism and overall skills of nurses at the N3–N5 levels. Background: Enhanced glucose uptake and autophagy are means by which cells adapt to stressful microenvironments. In this study, we investigated the roles of glucose transporter-1 (GLUT-1) and autophagy in laryngeal carcinoma stem cells under hypoxic and low-glucose conditions. Materials and Methods: CD133-positive Tu212 laryngeal carcinoma stem cells were purified by magnetic-activated cell sorting and subjected to hypoxic and/or low-glucose conditions. Proliferation was evaluated using a cell-counting kit and a clone-formation assay, and migration capability was measured through a Transwell assay. Autophagy was assessed using transmission electron microscopy. Gene silencing was monitored using shRNA technology and autophagy regulation was manipulated using rapamycin, 3-MA, or chloroquine. Gene expression levels were evaluated by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and protein levels were assessed via Western blotting. Results: Compared to CD133-negative cells, CD133-positive cells showed increased proliferation and migration capabilities, and reduced apoptosis, under hypoxic or low-glucose conditions. CD133-positive cells also showed increased expression of GLUT-1 and autophagy activity. Finally, GLUT-1 knockdown or autophagy inhibition reduced the proliferation and migration of CD133-positive laryngeal carcinoma stem cells. The present study described the case of a 22-year-old woman who had symptoms of left chest pain for >6 months, with further aggravation over 2 days. Computed tomography (CT) images of the mediastinal and pulmonary windows showed low-density shadows in the left ventricle. Echocardiography indicated a slightly stronger echo cluster in the left ventricle, with a range of ~29x30x35 mm, which was closely related to the lower wall and part of the posterior wall of the left ventricle. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound showed that the left ventricular mass was enhanced in a circular and dot-line shape, with a solid mass occupying the left ventricle and a rich blood supply. CT angiography revealed a nodule of size 27x27x24 mm in the left ventricle. During the operation, it was observed that the cardiac lipoma invaded the chordae tendinae and papillary muscle, and a valve replacement was performed. Postoperative examination revealed a piece of gray and anaplastic tissue, measuring 30x22x17 mm. The pathology of the specimen showed that the morphology of the left ventricular mass met the criteria of an intramuscular lipoma. The present study reported a cardiac lipoma involving the left anterior chordae tendinae and papillary muscle, with the patient showing only nonspecific symptoms. Molecular epidemiological studies have sought associations between interleukin-6 (IL-6) polymorphisms and the risk of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE); however, the results are controversial. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis with trial sequential analysis to evaluate a more accurate estimation of the associations. Published literatures reporting the relationships of two IL-6 polymorphisms (G-174C and G-572C) and SLE risk were retrieved from electronic databases such as PubMed and EMBASE. The most appropriate genetic model was chosen for each polymorphism. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Trial sequential analysis (TSA) was introduced to assess the information size and the positive results. With 17 studies (2780 cases and 3100 controls) included, a dominant association (CC+GC vs. GG) was suggested for G-174C polymorphism, and compared with the GG genotype, the CC+GC genotype of G-174C was associated with a decreased SLE risk (OR = 0.71; 95% CI = 0.56–0.88, P =.02). No association was found for G-572C under all genetic models (e.g. OR and 95%CI for CC+GC vs. GG: 0.89, 0.73–1.08, P =.22). Subgroup analyses indicated that SLE risk decreased in G-174C polymorphism by subgroups of Caucasian population, publications after 2010, studies with high quality, and studies complied with Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium (HWE). TSA suggested that the sample sizes used for G-572C were insufficient. We found that the minor allele C of IL6G-174C polymorphism is a protective factor in SLE. N-methyl-d-aspartate receptors (NMDARs) dysfunction in the nucleus accumbens (NAc) participates in regulating many neurological and psychiatric disorders such as drug addiction, chronic pain, and depression. NMDARs are heterotetrameric complexes generally composed of two NR1 and two NR2 subunits (NR2A, NR2B, NR2C and NR2D). Much attention has been focused on the role of NR2A and NR2B-containing NMDARs in a variety of neurological disorders; however, the function of NR2C/2D subunits at NAc in chronic pain remains unknown. In this study, spinal nerve ligation (SNL) induced a persistent sensory abnormity and depressive-like behavior. The whole-cell patch clamp recording on medium spiny neurons (MSNs) in the NAc showed that the amplitude of NMDAR-mediated excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) was significantly increased when membrane potential held at −40 to 0 mV in mice after 14 days of SNL operation. In addition, selective inhibition of NR2C/2D-containing NMDARs with PPDA caused a larger decrease on peak amplitude of NMDAR-EPSCs in SNL than that in sham-operated mice. Appling of selective potentiator of NR2C/2D, CIQ, markedly enhanced the evoked NMDAR-EPSCs in SNL-operated mice, but no change in sham-operated mice. Finally, intra-NAc injection of PPDA significantly attenuated SNL-induced mechanical allodynia and depressive-like behavior. These results for the first time showed that the functional change of NR2C/2D subunits-containing NMDARs in the NAc might contribute to the sensory and affective components in neuropathic pain. Background: This study aimed to evaluate the potential of induction chemotherapy as an indicator of the management of advanced hypopharyngeal carcinoma with cervical oesophageal invasion. Methods: Sixty-eight patients admitted to our hospital between February 2003 and November 2016 with stage IVB hypopharyngeal carcinoma with cervical oesophageal invasion were retrospectively analysed. Patients were divided into two groups according to the treatment they selected following an explanation of the different treatments available. Patients in group A received induction chemotherapy and had (1) complete/partial remission following chemotherapy and radiotherapy/concurrent chemoradiotherapy or (2) stable disease following chemotherapy and surgery. Patients in group B underwent surgery followed by adjuvant radiotherapy/concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Survival analyses were performed using the Kaplan–Meier method, and differences between the groups were evaluated using the log-rank test. Laryngeal and oesophageal retention rates were compared using the cross-tabulation test. Results: The 3- and 5-year overall survival rates were 22.86% and 11.43% in group A and 24.25% and 6.06% in group B, respectively (all P > 0.05). The laryngeal and oesophageal retention rates were 40.0% and 74.3% in group A and 0.0% and 27.3% in group B, respectively (all P < 0.01). There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of post-operative complications between the two groups (group A 8.6%, group B 12.1%; P > 0.05). Conclusions: Induction chemotherapy may be an appropriate first choice to ensure laryngeal and oesophageal preservation in the individualised treatment of advanced hypopharyngeal carcinoma with cervical oesophageal invasion. Trimethylamine-N-Oxide (TMAO) is a proatherogenic and prothrombotic metabolite. Our study examined the association of plasma TMAO level with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Patients who were at least 18 years-old and received HD for at least 6 months were enrolled within 6 months. Patients with coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, or stroke within 3 months before study onset were excluded. The primary endpoints were cardiovascular and all-cause death, and the secondary endpoint was cerebrovascular death. We recruited 252 patients and divided them into a high-TMAO group (>4.73 μg/mL) and a low-TMAO group (≤4.73 μg/mL). The median follow-up time was 73.4 months (interquartile range: 42.9, 108). A total of 123 patients died, 39 from cardiovascular disease, 19 from cerebrovascular disease, and 65 from other causes. Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that the high-TMAO group had a greater incidence of cardiovascular death (Log-Rank: p = 0.006) and all-cause death (Log-Rank: p < 0.001). Cox regression analysis showed that high TMAO level was significantly associated with cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. After adjustment for confounding, this association remained significant for cardiovascular mortality (TMAO as a continuous variable: HR: 1.18, 95%CI: 1.07, 1.294, p < 0.001; TMAO as a dichotomous variable: HR: 3.44, 95%CI: 1.68, 7.08, p < 0.001) and all-cause mortality (TMAO as a continuous variable: HR: 1.14, 95%CI: 1.08, 1.21, p < 0.001; TMAO as a dichotomous variable: HR: 2.54, 95%CI: 1.71, 3.76, p < 0.001). Adult mammalian cardiomyocytes may reenter the cell cycle and cause cardiac hypertrophy. Triptolide (TP) can regulate the expressions of various cell cycle regulators in cancer cells. However, its effects on cell cycle regulators during myocardial hypertrophy and mechanism are unclear. This study was designed to explore the profile of cell cycle of cardiomyocytes and the temporal expression of their regulators during cardiac hypertrophy, as well as the effects of TP. The hypertrophy models employed were neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVMs) stimulated with angiotensin II (Ang II) for scheduled times (from 5 min to 48 h) in vitro and mice treated with isoprenaline (Iso) for from 1 to 21 days, respectively. TP was used in vitro at 1 μg/L and in vivo at 10 μg/kg. NRVMs were analyzed using flow cytometry to detect the cell cycle, and the expression levels of mRNA and protein of various cell cycle regulators were determined using real-time PCR and Western blot. It was found NRVM numbers in phases S and G2 increased, while that in the G1 phase decreased significantly after Ang II stimulation. The mRNA expression levels of p21 and p27 increased soon after stimulation, and thereafter, mRNA expression levels of all cell cycle factors showed a decreasing trend and reached their lowest levels in 1–3 h, except for cyclin-dependent kinase 1 (CDK1) and CDK4 mRNA. The mRNA expression levels of CDK1, p21, and p27 increased markedly after stimulation with Ang II for 24–48 h. In myocardium tissue, CDK and cyclin expression levels peaked in 3–7 days, followed by a decreasing trend, while those of p21 and p27 mRNA remained at a high level on day 21. Expression levels of all protein were consistent with the results of mRNA in NRVMs or mice. The influence of Ang II or Iso on protein expression was more obvious than that on mRNA. TP treatment effectively prevented the imbalance in the expression of cell cycle regulators in the hypertrophy model group. Objective: To investigate the expression of interleukin-17A (IL-17A) in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) and to analyze its effect on prognosis and to explore the role and mechanism of anti-IL-17A effect in vivo by establishing a murine nasal polyps (NP) model.Methods: Patients with CRSwNP who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery and matched control subjects were collected. We investigated IL-17A expression in human NP tissues using immunohistochemistry and analyzed their clinical features, including Lund-Mackay computed tomography scoring (LMCS) before surgery, Lund-Kennedy endoscopic scoring (LKES) before surgery (LKES B), LKES 6 months after surgery (LKES A), and reduction of LKES (LKES R). Then, after establishing the murine NP model to detect the expression and correlation of IL-17A and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) in nasal tissue, we studied nasal lavage fluid and serum by PCR and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in vivo. Anti-IL-17A treatment was administered in the murine NP model to confirm the function of IL-17A during the pathogenic processes.Results: IL-17A expression was upregulated in NP tissues from patients with CRSwNP compared with control subjects (p < 0.001). The number of IL-17A+ cells was significantly negatively correlated with LKES R in patients with CRSwNP (p < 0.01). However, there was no significant correlation between IL-17A and LMCS or LKES B (all p < 0.05). Further, IL-17A and MMP-9 were more abundant in nasal mucosa of the murine NP model compared with that of control mice (all p < 0.05), and severe polypoid lesions were apparently observed in murine NP models. Anti-IL-17A treatment downregulated the mRNA and protein expression of MMP-9 in nasal mucosa and reduced the number of polypoid lesions in the murine NP model (all p < 0.05).Conclusion: Our results suggest that IL-17A plays a crucial role and may affect the prognosis of CRSwNP. Lithofacies identification is a crucial work in reservoir characterization and modeling. The vast inter-well area can be supplemented by facies identification of seismic data. However, the relationship between lithofacies and seismic information that is affected by many factors is complicated. Machine learning has received extensive attention in recent years, among which support vector machine (SVM) is a potential method for lithofacies classification. Lithofacies classification involves identifying various types of lithofacies and is generally a nonlinear problem, which needs to be solved by means of the kernel function. Multi-kernel learning SVM is one of the main tools for solving the nonlinear problem about multi-classification. However, it is very difficult to determine the kernel function and the parameters, which is restricted by human factors. Besides, its computational efficiency is low. A lithofacies classification method based on local deep multi-kernel learning support vector machine (LDMKL-SVM) that can consider low-dimensional global features and high-dimensional local features is developed. The method can automatically learn parameters of kernel function and SVM to build a relationship between lithofacies and seismic elastic information. The calculation speed will be expedited at no cost with respect to discriminant accuracy for multi-class lithofacies identification. Both the model data test results and the field data application results certify advantages of the method. In VTI media, the conventional inversion methods based on the existing approximation formulas are difficult to accurately estimate the anisotropic parameters of reservoirs, even more so for unconventional reservoirs with strong seismic anisotropy. Theoretically, the above problems can be solved by utilizing the exact reflection coefficients equations. However, their complicated expression increases the difficulty in calculating the Jacobian matrix when applying them to the Bayesian deterministic inversion. Therefore, the new reduced approximation equations starting from the exact equations are derived here by linearizing the slowness expressions. The relatively simple form and satisfactory calculation accuracy make the reduced equations easy to apply for inversion while ensuring the accuracy of the inversion results. In addition, the blockiness constraint, which follows the differentiable Laplace distribution, is added to the prior model to improve contrasts between layers. Then, the concept of GLI and an iterative reweighted least-squares algorithm is combined to solve the objective function. Lastly, we obtain the iterative solution expression of the elastic parameters and anisotropy parameters and achieve nonlinear AVA inversion based on the reduced equations. The retention and release of deuterium in W–2%Y2O3 composite materials and commercially pure tungsten after they have been implanted by deuterium plasma (flux ∼ 3.71 × 1021 D/m2⋅s, energy ∼ 25 eV, and fluence up to 1.3 × 1026 D/m2) are studied. The results show that the total amount of deuterium released from W–2%Y2O3 is 5.23 × 1020 D/m2(2.5 K/min), about 2.5 times higher than that from the pure tungsten. Thermal desorption spectra (TDS) at different heating rates (2.5 K/min–20 K/min) reveal that both W and W–2%Y2O3 have two main deuterium trapped sites. For the low temperature trap, the deuterium desorption activation energy is 0.85 eV (grain boundary) in W, while for high temperature trap, the desorption activation energy is 1.57 eV (vacancy) in W and 1.73 eV (vacancy) in W–2%Y2O3. An accurate estimation of terrestrial evapotranspiration over heterogeneous surfaces using satellite imagery and few meteorological observations remains a challenging task. Wind speed (u), which is known to exhibit high temporal-spatial variation, is a significant constraint in the abovementioned task. In this study, a wind speed-independent two-source energy balance (WiTSEB) model is proposed on the basis of a theoretical land surface temperature (Tr)-fractional vegetation coverage (fc) trapezoidal space and a two-stage evapotranspiration decomposing method. The temperatures in theoretically driest boundaries of the Tr-fc trapezoid are iteratively calculated without u by using an assumption of the absence of sensible heat exchange between water-saturated surface and atmosphere in the vertical direction under the given atmospheric condition. The WiTSEB was conducted in HiWATER-MUSOEXE-12 in the middle reaches of the Heihe watershed across eight landscapes by using ASTER images. Results indicate that WiTSEB provides reliable estimates in latent heat flux (LE), with root-mean-square-errors (RMSE) and coefficient of determination of 68.6 W m−2 and 0.88, respectively. The RMSE of the ratio of the vegetation transpiration component to LE is 5.7%. Sensitivity analysis indicates WiTSEB does not aggravate the sensitivity on meteorological and remote sensing inputs in comparison with other two-source models. The errors of estimated Tr and observed soil heat flux result in LE overestimation/underestimation over parts of landscapes. Based on the density functional theory (DFT) method, the geometrical structures, relative stability, electronic, and spectral properties of AuSn (2 ≤ n ≤ 7) clusters are systematically studied, whose sizes are largely in the range of 0.3–0.5 nm. AuS4 and AuS3 show the highest and lowest energy gaps and hence the highest chemical stability and chemical activity, respectively. The total magnetic moment is 3.0 and 1 (or 0) μB for AuS4 and other clusters, respectively, which largely (about 99.9%) arise from the local magnetic moment of S atoms. The average polarization tensor for single atom (< α ¯ >) generally increases with increasing the number of S atoms, with the maximum 91.72 a.u. for AuS7, corresponding to the most significant delocalization effect. AuS4 cluster exhibits the highest polarizability anisotropic invariant Δα (≈ 350.56 a.u.) and the lowest total dipole moment (≈ 0.06 D) among all systems, corresponding to the strongest anisotropic response to external electric field and the weakest polarization, respectively. The IR, Raman, UV-Vis, and PES spectra are simulated for AuSn (2 ≤ n ≤ 7) clusters with the structures of the lowest isomers. The O–O and O–H bond lengths, adsorption energies, vibration frequencies, and density of states are also calculated for AuS4 and AuS3 adsorbing one O2 and H2O molecules, respectively. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have been well-known and extensively researched due to the high storage /good selectivity for gas molecules. Herein, the structures and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra for dicopper paddle wheel MOF compound (Cu2(µ2-O2CCH3)4 with various gas molecule are theoretically investigated by density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The adsorption energies and isotherms (including pure gas molecules and the mixed ones) are calculated for the gas molecules interacting with the unsaturated Cu2(µ2-O2CCH3)4. Both quantities exhibit the roughly consistent orders (e.g. H2S > NH3 > CO2 > CO > H2O > N2 > NO > H2 for isotherms and H2S > NH3 > N2 > CO2 > NO > H2O > H2 > CO for adsorption energies), possibly suggesting that this material may act as a potential adsorbent of these gas molecules. The catalytic property of Cu2(µ2-O2CCH3)4 for oxidation of CO and NO into non-toxic molecules and splitting of H2O into H2 and O2 in the solvent condition are uniformly discussed. Simulation of Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) in MS 8.0 and calculations in Langmuir model reveal that Cu2(µ2-O2CCH3)4 has good selectivity for CH4 in natural gas (CH4/CO2/N2) and SO2 in fog (SO2/NO/NO2/H2O/O2), which would exhibit potential environmentally friendly applications. The construction and the operation of multi-reservoir has severely altered the downstream design flood. This paper quantified the flood frequency modifications caused by multi-reservoir regulation with recorded data and a numerical model composed of peaks-over-threshold (POT) samples and time-trend models. The whole research was carried out in Dongjiang River Basin, Southern China. Results showed that (1) Sampling with the POT method could eliminate fake changes in change detection and prevent the underestimation of the design floods with an exceeding probability over 90% and the overestimation of the design floods with an exceeding probability less than 80%; (2) Multi-reservoir regulation severely reduced design flood when the exceeding probability was greater than 1% and smaller than 95%. The 10-year floods were mitigated the most. However, when the exceeding probability was over 95%, the impact was insignificant; (3) Flood mitigation was positively correlated to the number of reservoirs, but negatively correlated to the distance between the affecting reservoir and the affected station. However, when multiple reservoirs took effect on the design flood in one station, the closest reservoir did not necessarily take the most effect. Pointing at the bounded rationality problem of passenger travel choice in the railway corridor, this paper proposes a travel choice theory considering passengers psychological expectation, and establishes the travel mode decision model based on prospect theory. With the comprehensive prospect value combined by analyzing the travel time, travel expenses and the comfort degree of the psychological reference point, it obtains the passengers travel mode choice results. Taking railway transport corridor from Baoji to Lanzhou as an example, by calculating the comprehensive prospect value, and analyzing the punctuality, the scheduled arrival time, price and the sensitivity from speed on travel choice, it finds out that the passengers tend to choose high-speed rail travel with a higher punctuality rate and tend to a mode with relatively lower fares and faster speed. Purpose: Budesonide improves the prognosis of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). However, few reports have examined whether its use for nasal irrigation, compared to normal saline, improves the prognosis of patients after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). We compared the effects of nasal irrigation with budesonide and normal saline in CRS patients after ESS. Methods: Sixty CRS patients who had undergone ESS were randomly divided into an experimental group (30 patients), which used budesonide nasal irrigation, and a control group (30 patients), which used normal saline nasal irrigation. All patients received regular follow-up evaluations and were assessed via questionnaires, including the Lund–Kennedy endoscopic score (LKES), the symptom visual analog scale (VAS), the 22-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22), the Short-Form 36-Item Questionnaire (SF-36), the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), the Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS) and a side effects scale. Results: Scores of polyposis, mucosal edema, secretions and total score of LKES; VAS scores of nasal blockage, hyposmia and rhinorrhea; and SNOT-22 results in both groups were significantly improved 3 months after ESS. Scores of polyposis, mucosal edema, secretions and scarring and total score of LKES in experimental group were significantly better than in control group 3 months after ESS. No significant differences were observed in SF-36, SAS or SDS before or 3 months after ESS within or between the two groups. The side effects of the two groups were not significantly different. In recent years, nonconventional luminogens free of aromatic groups have attracted extensive attention due to their academic importance and promising wide applications. Whilst previous studies generally focused on fluorescence from aliphatic amine or carbonyl-containing systems, less attention has been paid to room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) and the systems with predominant oxygen functionalities. In this work, photophysical properties of the polyhydroxy polymers, including microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), 2-hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), and cellulose acetate (CA), were studied and compared. While MCC, HEC, and HPC solids showed bright emission alongside distinct RTP, CA demonstrated relatively low intensity of solid emission without noticeable RTP. Their emissions were explained in terms of the clustering-triggered emission (CTE) mechanism and conformation rigidification. Additionally, on account of its intrinsic emission, concentrated HEC aqueous solution could be used as the probe for the detection of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nonlinear optical properties of tetraphenylporphyrin (H2TPP) and protonated tetraphenylporphyrin (H4TPP2+) in toluene were investigated by Z-scan technique using a nanosecond laser with 5 ns pulse at 532 nm. Results show that H4TPP2+ exhibits weaker nonlinear refraction but enhanced reverse saturable absorption (RSA) and optical limiting performance in comparison with pristine H2TPP. Since no nonlinear scattering is observed in H4TPP2+ under low input fluence, and H4TPP2+ exhibits weaker nonlinear scattering signals than H2TPP under high input fluence, the enhancement of RSA and optical limiting performance can be attributed to the larger ratio of excited state absorption cross-section to that of the ground state of H4TPP2+. For decision makers, expressing their opinions through subintervals of [0, 1] is sometimes easier than using crisp numbers. This study defines some outranking relations derived by ELECTRE III for hesitant interval-valued fuzzy sets (HIVFSs). The properties of these outranking relations are discussed in detail. The concordance and discordance indexes of HIVFSs are then proposed. Ranking approach is developed based on the outranking relations of HIVFSs to handle multi-criteria decision-making problems. Given the constraints on carbon emissions due to their impact on global warming, carbon disclosure has become an important way to deliver signals to the market. We examine the benefits associated with carbon disclosure from the standpoint of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for China’s manufacturing industries from 2010 to 2014. We divide corporations into heavily polluting and non-heavily polluting groups in order to control the industry factor. Based on the Principal-Agent Theory, we empirically test the relationship between carbon disclosure and financial transparency, and we evaluate the effect of carbon disclosure on agency costs and operations. Our results highlight that carbon disclosure is negatively associated with agency costs. However, we do not find enough evidence to prove what role financial transparency plays in the relationship between carbon disclosure and agency cost. Therefore, the influence of financial transparency as a mechanism is not yet clear. This study provides a way to look at the intentions of firms that disclose carbon information, and it also enhances the literature on carbon disclosure and agency costs in China based on Chinese data. Density functional theory (DFT) investigations on neutral and anionic VFn (n = 1–7) clusters are performed, and the geometric structures, relative stability as well as electronic and spectral [IR, Raman and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis)] properties of these clusters are systematically calculated with DFT calculations. The clusters for n ≥ 4 exhibit superhalogen properties with very high electron affinities. Analysis of the interactions between VF6 and Li indicates high stability of LiVF6, where VF6 acts like fluorine. The IR and Raman spectra reveal that the peaks can be largely assigned to the stretching vibration of F atoms. The highest and next highest UV-Vis absorption peaks within 200–350 nm for neutral and anionic clusters are mainly ascribed to the electronic transitions between F 2p and V 3d orbitals. Background: The aim of this study was to validate the antitumor function of EGFR-chimeric antigen T-cells (CART) targeted to FaDu cells, a hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma cell line, and to provide a preclinical basis for the application of CART cell technology in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.Methods: Detection of cytokine secretions of EGFR-CAR T and CART-controls in the presence of target cells and nontarget cells as an indicator of CART cell activation. Detection of the cytotoxic effects of EGFR-CAR T on specific tumors in the presence of target cells was evaluated by LDH release and CART cell proliferation.Results: The results showed that cytokine secretion increased significantly after EGFR-CAR T-cells were incubated with target cells, and EGFR-CAR T-cells has higher cytotoxic effect on target cells than the CART-control group. The target cell lysis rate was 52.66%. The proliferation of EGFR-CAR T-cells in the presence of target cells was not distinctly observed.Conclusion: In this study, we validated the antitumor function of EGFR-CAR T-cells targeted to the FaDu cell line and provided the foundation for application of the CART technique in the treatment of hypopharyngeal carcinoma. Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to provide a multicriteria decision‐making (MCDM) approach that applies the gray linguistic Bonferroni mean (BM) operator to address the situations where the criterion values take the form of gray linguistic numbers (GLNs) and the criterion weights are known. First, the related operations and comparison method for GLNs are provided. Subsequently, a BM operator and weighted BM operator of GLNs are developed. Then, based on the gray linguistic weighted BM operator, an MCDM approach is proposed. Finally, an illustrative example is given and a comparison analysis is conducted between the proposed approach and other existing methods to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the developed approach. The extensive use of plasticizers containing di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) results in high residual concentrations in agricultural soils and poses potential risks to human health through the food chain. Here, two rice cultivars with low (Fengyousimiao) and high (Peizataifeng) phthalic acid ester (PAE) accumulation were grown in leaching columns packed with DBP- and DEHP-contaminated soils to investigate their transport, fraction distribution, and accumulation in soil-rice-water system. Significant differences in soil vertical distribution of DBP and DEHP were observed among the two cultivars, sterilization and non-sterilization treatments. Both DBP and DEHP could leach to the bottom layer even though their concentrations in both soil and pore water decreased along with soil depth. DBP and DEHP concentrations in pore water were significantly correlated with those in corresponding soil layer at ripening stage. The available fractions including desorbing and non-desorbing fractions were predominant in the total concentrations of DBP and DEHP of soils. DBP and DEHP storages in coarse soil fractions (i.e., coarse and fine sands) with higher bioavailability displayed higher bioconcentration factors compared to finer soil fractions (i.e., silt and clay), and bioconcentration factors of Peizataifeng were higher than those of Fengyousimiao. The variations in vertical migration and accumulation of DBP and DEHP by the two cultivars implied different adverse effects on the security of groundwater and food. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Herb mixtures are widely used for treatment of the menopausal syndrome long before the hormonal therapy. However, there is insufficient data for herb remedies in treating menopausal syndromes. Here we aim to investigate the effect of ZhenRongDan (ZRD) in balancing female hormones, regulating expression of estrogen receptors (ERs), and preventing organ atrophy in menopausal rats. Rats that underwent bilateral ovariectomy were used in the experiments; the effects of ZRD on serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), prolactin (PRL), and estradiol (E2) levels were observed. Histology of vagina and ERs expression in vagina, uterus, and adrenal gland were also examined. ELISAs were used to analyze the changes of FSH, LH, PRL, and E2 in serum, and the morphological changes of the cervical epithelium cells were observed by Hematoxylin & Eosin (H&E) staining. Immunohistochemistry and western blot were applied to detect estrogen receptors subtypes alpha (ERα) and beta (ERβ) expression in vagina, uterus, and adrenal gland. We found that ZRD could significantly reduce the weight of the adrenal gland and increase the weight of the uterus. It could decrease the release of FSH and LH as well as increasing E2 and PRL levels. Furthermore, ZRD could improve the number of cervical vaginal epithelial cells and increase the thickness of the vaginal wall. And the altered expressions of ERα and ERβ are also restored by ZRD.
