Inorganic zeolites have excellent molecular sieving properties, but they are difficult to process into macroscopic structures. In this work, we use metal–organic framework (MOF) glass as substrates to engineer the interface with inorganic zeolites, and then assemble the discrete crystalline zeolite powders into monolithic structures. The zeolites are well dispersed and stabilized within the MOF glass matrix, and the monolith has satisfactory mechanical stabilities for membrane applications. We demonstrate the effective separation performance of the membrane for 1,3‐butadiene (C4H6) from other C4 hydrocarbons, which is a crucial and challenging separation in the chemical industry. The membrane achieves a high permeance of C4H6 (693.00±21.83 GPU) and a high selectivity over n‐butene, n‐butane, isobutene, and isobutane (9.72, 9.94, 10.31, and 11.94, respectively). Quantum dots (QDs) with non‐blinking applied in bio‐imaging is important for understanding cellular dynamics by monitoring single particles in living cells. Antibunching is once believed to be applied to identify a single QD, which shows a strong dependence on the atom or ion number. However, recent works indicate that the antibunching alone may not be sufficient to demonstrate that the fluorescence comes from a single QD. To some extent, it is neither necessary nor sufficient for a single QD, though it is absolutely right for a single atom because a single QD is composed of thousands of atoms, which in principle are favorable to the formation of multi‐excitonic states. Blinking behavior, almost unobservable in ensembles due to the averaging, is characteristic of the single QD which owns the quantum effect due to its discrete energy levels. Here, a method of transformation of a single graphene quantum dot from non‐blinking to blinking via catalytic reaction to identify a single QD is reported, which can also help with understanding the catalytic dynamics of a single QD, which is a complementary means of confirming a single QD. Highlights: Recent advances in the metal–organic framework (MOF)-related catalysts for electrochemical ammonia synthesis protocols under ambient reaction conditions are summarized and discussed. The design and fabrication of efficient electrocatalysts from MOF for the reduction of N2 and NO3− are systematically analyzed. Based on the current advances, the ongoing challenges and promising perspectives are highlighted. Electrocatalytic synthesis under mild conditions has become increasingly important as one of the practical alternatives for industrial applications, especially for the green ammonia (NH3) industry. A properly engineered electrocatalyst plays a vital role in the realization of superior catalytic performance. Among various types of promising nanomaterials, metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are competitive candidates for developing efficient electrocatalytic NH3 synthesis from simple nitrogen-containing molecules or ions, such as N2 and NO3−. In this review, recent advances in the development of electrocatalysts derived from MOFs for the electrosynthesis of NH3 are collected, categorized, and discussed, including their application in the N2 reduction reaction (NRR) and the NO3− reduction reaction (NO3RR). Firstly, the fundamental principles are illustrated, such as plausible mechanisms of NH3 generation from N2 and NO3−, the apparatus of corresponding electrocatalysis, parameters for evaluation of reaction efficiency, and detection methods of yielding NH3. Then, the electrocatalysts for NRR processes are discussed in detail, including pristine MOFs, MOF-hybrids, MOF-derived N-doped porous carbons, single atomic catalysts from pyrolysis of MOFs, and other MOF-related materials. Subsequently, MOF-related NO3RR processes are also listed and discussed. Finally, the existing challenges and prospects for the rational design and fabrication of electrocatalysts from MOFs for electrochemical NH3 synthesis are presented, such as the evolution of investigation methods with artificial intelligence, innovation in synthetic methods of MOF-related catalysts, advancement of characterization techniques, and extended electrocatalytic reactions. Perovskite-related materials show very promising properties in many fields. Pb-free perovskites are particularly interesting, because of the toxicity of Pb. In this study, hybrid double perovskite MA2KBiCl6 (MA = methylammonium cation) was found to have interesting variable temperature behaviours. Both variable temperature single crystal X-ray diffraction, synchrotron powder diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy were conducted to reveal a rhombohedral to cubic phase transition at around 330 K and an order to disorder transition for inorganic cage below 210 K. Oxides of molybdenum, MoOx, have a rich structural chemistry arising from the accommodation of oxygen deficiency as MoO3 is reduced and varied redox behavior arising from the ability of Mo to take on several different oxidation states. We review MoO3, MoO2, and all the reduced Mo oxides with intermediate compositions for their performance as Li-ion battery electrode materials. These reduced oxides are perhaps the most structurally diverse in the field of energy storage materials, taking on structures ranging from ones with crystallographic shear to bronze-like structures and distorted rutile. The crystal structure can have a significant impact on the performance of battery materials, which makes the reduced Mo oxides a promising domain of study. Electrochemical studies of these oxides from as early as 1971 to as recently as 2022 are compiled, and characteristics of capacity, capacity retention, and rate performance are compared. We find that certain oxides indeed display promising and highly reversible capacities for Li+ storage. Typical redox voltages for Mo oxides lie in a regime that hinders maximizing energy density when they are paired with higher-voltage cathodes or lower-voltage anodes. The possibility of decreasing the redox voltage in the future will expand the promise of these materials while offering an alternative to more critical elements such as Nb. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lithium and sodium (Na) mixed polyanion solid electrolytes for all-solid-state batteries display some of the highest ionic conductivities reported to date. However, the effect of polyanion mixing on the ion-transport properties is still not fully understood. Here, we focus on Na1+xZr2SixP3−xO12 (0 ≤ x ≤ 3) NASICON electrolyte to elucidate the role of polyanion mixing on the Na-ion transport properties. Although NASICON is a widely investigated system, transport properties derived from experiments or theory vary by orders of magnitude. We use more than 2000 distinct ab initio-based kinetic Monte Carlo simulations to map the compositional space of NASICON over various time ranges, spatial resolutions and temperatures. Via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements on samples with different sodium content, we find that the highest ionic conductivity (i.e., about 0.165 S cm–1 at 473 K) is experimentally achieved in Na3.4Zr2Si2.4P0.6O12, in line with simulations (i.e., about 0.170 S cm–1 at 473 K). The theoretical studies indicate that doped NASICON compounds (especially those with a silicon content x ≥ 2.4) can improve the Na-ion mobility compared to undoped NASICON compositions. Here, we report eight new chiral hybrid manganese halides, crystallizing in the non‐centrosymmetric space group P212121 and showing intense CPL emissions. Oppositely‐signed circular dichroism (CD) and CPL signals are detected according to the R‐ and S‐configurations of the chiral alkanolammonium cations. Time‐resolved PL spectra show long averaged decay lifetimes up to 1 ms for (R‐3‐quinuclidinol)MnBr3 (R‐1). The glum of polycrystalline samples for coordinated structures (23×10−3) is more than doubled compared with the non‐coordinated ones (8.5×10−3), due to the structural variations. R‐1 exhibit both a high glum and a high PLQY (50.2 %). Sparse aperture masking interferometry (SAM) is a high-resolution observing technique that allows for imaging at and beyond a telescope’s diffraction limit. The technique is ideal for searching for stellar companions at small separations from their host star; however, previous analyses of SAM observations of young stars surrounded by dusty disks have had difficulties disentangling planet and extended disk emission. We analyze VLT/SPHERE-IRDIS SAM observations of the transition disk LkCa 15, model the extended disk emission, probe for planets at small separations, and improve contrast limits for planets. We fit geometrical models directly to the interferometric observables and recover previously observed extended disk emission. We use dynamic nested sampling to estimate uncertainties on our model parameters and to calculate evidences to perform model comparison. We compare our extended disk emission models against point-source models to robustly conclude that the system is dominated by extended emission within 50 au. We report detections of two previously observed asymmetric rings at ∼17 and ∼45 au. The peak brightness location of each model ring is consistent with the previous observations. We also, for the first time with imaging, robustly recover an elliptical Gaussian inner disk, previously inferred via SED fitting. This inner disk has an FWHM of 5 au and a similar inclination and orientation to the outer rings. Finally, we recover no clear evidence for candidate planets. By modeling the extended disk emission, we are able to place a lower limit on the near-infrared companion contrast of at least 1000. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We elucidate the complex thermodynamics of sodium (Na) intercalation into the sodium super-ionic conductor (NaSICON)-type electrode, NaxV2(PO4)3, for promising Na-ion batteries with high-power density. This is the first report of a computational temperature-composition phase diagram of the NaSICON-type electrode NaxV2(PO4)3. Based on our computational data, we identify a thermodynamically stable phase with a composition of Na2V2(PO4)3 and describe its structural features. We also identify another metastable configuration that can occur at room temperature, namely Na3.5V2(PO4)3. We unveil the crystal-structure and the electronic-structure origins of the ground-state compositions associated with specific Na/vacancy arrangements, which are driven by charge orderings on the vanadium sites. The article discusses the importance of high-performing and scalable adsorbent materials in addressing the global demand for energy and mitigating the consequences of burning fossil fuels. Adsorbent materials have porous atomic crystal structures that enable the capture and storage of certain gases at useful temperatures and pressures. The article focuses on a specific material called aluminum formate (ALF), which has shown promise in capturing CO2 and storing hydrogen gas. ALF's simple preparation from commodity chemicals and low cost make it a viable solution for CO2 capture and grid-scale H2 storage. However, ALF's instability in humid conditions and the question of what to do with potentially massive quantities of ALF are challenges that need to be addressed. The article also highlights ALF's ability to separate gases and store appreciable amounts of H2 gas at moderate temperatures and pressures, making it a potential solution for large-scale grid-scale H2 storage. Vacancy‐ordered double perovskites are attracting significant attention due to their chemical diversity and interesting optoelectronic properties. With a view to understanding both the optical and magnetic properties of these compounds, two series of RuIV halides are presented; A2RuCl6 and A2RuBr6, where A is K, NH4, Rb or Cs. We show that the optical properties and spin‐orbit coupling (SOC) behavior can be tuned through changing the A cation and the halide. Within a series, the energy of the ligand‐to‐metal charge transfer increases as the unit cell expands with the larger A cation, and the band gaps are higher for the respective chlorides than for the bromides. The magnetic moments of the systems are temperature dependent due to a non‐magnetic ground state with Jeff=0 caused by SOC. Ru‐X covalency, and consequently, the delocalization of metal d‐electrons, result in systematic trends of the SOC constants due to variations in the A cation and the halide anion. Although metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are being widely used to derive functional nanomaterials through pyrolysis, the actual mechanisms involved remain unclear. In the limited studies to date, elemental metallic species are found to be the initial products, which limits the variety of MOF‐derived nanomaterials. Here, the pyrolysis of a manganese triazolate MOF is examined carefully in terms of phase transformation, reaction pathways, and morphology evolution in different conditions. Surprisingly, the formation of metal is not detected when manganese triazolate is pyrolyzed in an oxygen‐free environment. Instead, a direct transformation into nanoparticles of manganese nitride, Mn2Nx embedded in N‐doped graphitic carbon took place. The electrically conductive Mn2Nx nanoparticles show much better air stability than bulk samples and exhibit promising electrocatalytic performance for the oxygen reduction reaction. Na-ion batteries are promising devices for smart grids and electric vehicles due to the cost effectiveness arising from the overall abundance of sodium (Na) and its even geographical distribution. Among other factors, the energy density of Na-ion batteries is limited by the cathode electrode chemistry. NaSICON-based electrode materials are known for their wide range of electrochemical potentials, high ionic conductivity, and most importantly their structural and thermal stabilities. Using first-principles calculations, we chart the chemical space of 3d transition metal-based NaSICON phosphates with the formula NaxMM′(PO4)3 (with M and M′ = Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co and Ni) to analyze their thermodynamic stabilities and the intercalation voltages for Na+ ions. Specifically, we compute the Na insertion voltages and related properties of 28 distinct NaSICON compositions. We investigate the thermodynamic stability of Na-intercalation in previously unreported NaxMn2(PO4)3 and NaxVCo(PO4)3. The calculated quaternary phase diagrams of the Na–P–O–Co and Na–P–O–Ni chemical systems explain the origin of the suspected instability of Ni and Co-based NaSICON compositions. This Review surveys the current progress of this exciting new area. Fundamental aspects, including perovskite nucleation and growth, heterojunction electron–hole transfer, electronic structure, and luminescence within confined spaces, are highlighted, with suggestions of approaches by which guest confinement within MOFs can be synthetically designed. We further address the underlying principles and discuss the new insights and tools for the manipulation of these composite materials for the development of synthetic microporous semiconducting composites, as well as new strategies for host–guest interfacial engineering. Phosphorene, monolayer or few-layer black phosphorus, exhibits fascinating anisotropic properties and shows interesting semiconducting behavior. The synthesis of phosphorene nanosheets is still a hot topic, including the shaping of its two-dimensional structure into nanoribbons or nanobelts. Here we report electrochemical unzipping of single crystalline black phosphorus into zigzag-phosphorene nanobelts, as well as nanosheets and quantum dots, via an oxygen-driven mechanism. The experimental results agree well with our theoretical calculations. The calculation for the unzipping mechanism study suggests that interstitial oxygen-pairs are the critical intermediate species for generating zigzag-phosphorene nanobelts. Although phosphorene oxidation has been reported, lengthwise cutting is hitherto unreported. Our discovery of phosphorene cut upon oxidation represents a previously unknown mechanism for the formation of various dimensions of phosphorene nanostructures, especially zigzag-phosphorene nanobelts. It opens up a way for studying the quantum effects and electronic properties of zigzag-phosphorene nanobelts. Sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) are promising power sources due to the low cost and abundance of battery-grade sodium resources, while practical SIBs suffer from intrinsically sluggish diffusion kinetics and severe volume changes of electrode materials. Metal-organic framework (MOFs) derived carbonaceous metal compound offer promising applications in electrode materials due to their tailorable composition, nanostructure, chemical and physical properties. Here, we fabricated hierarchical MOF-derived carbonaceous nickel selenides with bi-phase composition for enhanced sodium storage capability. As MOF formation time increases, the pyrolyzed and selenized products gradually transform from a single-phase Ni3Se4 into bi-phase NiSex then single-phase NiSe2, with concomitant morphological evolution from solid spheres into hierarchical urchin-like yolk-shell structures. As SIBs anodes, bi-phase NiSex@C/CNT-10h (10 h of hydrothermal synthesis time) exhibits a high specific capacity of 387.1 mAh/g at 0.1 A/g, long cycling stability of 306.3 mAh/g at a moderately high current density of 1 A/g after 2,000 cycles. Computational simulation further proves the lattice mismatch at the phase boundary facilitates more interstitial space for sodium storage. Our understanding of the phase boundary engineering of transformed MOFs and their morphological evolution is conducive to fabricate novel composites/hybrids for applications in batteries, catalysis, sensors, and environmental remediation. There has been a great deal of recent interest in extended compounds containing Ru3+ and Ru4+ in light of their range of unusual physical properties. Many of these properties are displayed in compounds with the perovskite and related structures. Here we report an array of structurally diverse hybrid ruthenium halide perovskites and related compounds: MA2RuX6 (X=Cl or Br), MA2MRuX6 (M=Na, K or Ag; X=Cl or Br) and MA3Ru2X9 (X=Br) based upon the use of methylammonium (MA=CH3NH3+) on the perovskite A site. The compounds MA2RuX6 with Ru4+ crystallize in the trigonal space group R3‾m and can be described as vacancy‐ordered double‐perovskites. The ordered compounds MA2MRuX6 with M+ and Ru3+ crystallize in a structure related to BaNiO3 with alternating MX6 and RuX6 face‐shared octahedra forming linear chains in the trigonal P3‾m space group. The compound MA3Ru2Br9 crystallizes in the orthorhombic Cmcm space group and displays pairs of face‐sharing octahedra forming isolated Ru2Br9 moieties with very short Ru–Ru contacts of 2.789 Å. The structural details, including the role of hydrogen bonding and dimensionality, as well as the optical and magnetic properties of these compounds are described. The magnetic behavior of all three classes of compounds is influenced by spin–orbit coupling and their temperature‐dependent behavior has been compared with the predictions of the appropriate Kotani models. The optical properties of Yb3+ and Tm3+ co-doped Y2BaZnO5, synthesized by solid-state reaction, are investigated in detail. Three main emission bands centered around 479 nm (blue), 654 nm (red), and 796 nm (near-infrared) are observed under near-infrared laser excitation via an upconversion process. Detailed studies of the upconversion properties as a function of dopant concentrations are described and upconversion efficiencies quantified precisely. Maximum efficiencies of ∼ 1.53% in the 730-870 nm near-infrared emission range and of ∼ 0.09% in the 420-530 nm blue range are obtained. The results of power dependence studies and concentration dependent lifetime measurements are presented. This in-depth spectroscopic study allows us, for the first time, to identify the dominant processes involved in the upconversion mechanism of Yb3+, Tm3+ co-doped Y2BaZnO5 oxides. Time-of-flight neutron powder diffraction and specific heat measurements were used to study the nature of thermal expansion in rhenium trioxide, an electrically conducting oxide with cubic symmetry. The temperature evolution of the lattice parameters shows that ReO3 can exhibit negative thermal expansion below room temperature and that the transition from negative to positive thermal expansion depends on sample preparation; the single crystal sample demonstrated the highest transition temperature, 294(19) K, and largest negative value for the coefficient of thermal expansion, α=-10(1)×10-7 K-1. For the oxygen atoms, the atomic displacement parameters are strongly anisotropic even at 15 K, indicative of a large contribution of static disorder to the displacement parameters. Further inspection of the temperature evolution of the oxygen displacement parameters for different samples reveals that the static disorder contribution is greater for the samples with diminished negative thermal expansion (NTE) behavior. In addition, specific heat measurements show that ReO3 lacks the low energy Einstein-type modes seen in other NTE oxides such as ZrW2O8. The thermal expansion behavior in other NTE materials such as ZrW2O8, cuprite-type oxides, and the Prussian blue cyanides are discussed and compared with that of our ReO3 samples. Context. The interaction between low-mass companions and the debris discs they reside in is still not fully understood. A debris disc can evolve due to self-stirring, a process in which planetesimals can excite their neighbours to the point of destructive collisions. In addition, the presence of a companion could further stir the disc (companion-stirring). Additional information is necessary to understand this fundamental step in the formation and evolution of a planetary system, and at the moment of writing only a handful of systems are known where a companion and a debris disc have both been detected and studied at the same time. Aims. Our primary goal is to augment the sample of these systems and to understand the relative importance between self-stirring and companion-stirring. Methods. In the course of the VLT/NaCo Imaging Survey for Planets around Young stars (ISPY), we observed HD 193571, an A0 debris disc hosting star at a distance of 68 pc with an age between ∼60 and 170 Myr. We obtained two sets of observations in L′ band and a third epoch in H band using the GPI instrument at Gemini-South. Results. A companion was detected in all three epochs at a projected separation of ∼11 au (∼0.17″), and co-motion was confirmed through proper motion analysis. Given the inferred disc size of 120 au, the companion appears to reside within the gap between the host star and the disc. Comparison between the L′ and H band magnitude and evolutionary tracks suggests a mass of ∼0.31 − 0.39 M⊙. Conclusions. We discovered a previously unknown M-dwarf companion around HD 193571, making it the third low-mass stellar object discovered within a debris disc. A comparison to self- and companion-stirring models suggests that the companion is likely responsible for the stirring of the disc. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The complete 31P NMR chemical shift tensors for 22 inorganic phosphates obtained from ab initio computation are found to correspond closely to experimentally obtained parameters. Further improvement was found when structures determined by diffraction were geometry optimized. Besides aiding in spectral assignment, the cases where correspondence is significantly improved upon geometry optimization point to the crystal structures requiring correction. In a search for Pb-free photovoltaic materials, a double perovskite Cs2AgSbBr6 with an indirect optical bandgap of 1.64 eV has been synthesized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction determined the space group as Fm3̅m with a = 11.1583(7) Å. The black, as-synthesised compound turned brown after heat treatment at 480 K while the symmetry and crystallinity were preserved. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated the existence of Sb5+ in the black crystals, suggesting that the dark colour arises from the Sb3+–Sb5+ charge transfer. Hybrid organic–inorganic perovskites and their inorganic analogues, such as MAPbI3 (MA = methylammonium, CH3NH3) and CsPbI3, are currently under intense investigation due to their high-power conversion efficiencies and low cost for solar cell applications. Herein, we investigate the effect of methylammonium and the inorganic A-cations on the elastic and related transport properties of halide perovskites using van der Waals (vdW) corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations. For inorganic halide perovskites we find that the bonding within the inorganic framework is mainly responsible for their elastic behavior. However, our DFT calculations show that when a MA cation is substituted into the structure the combined effects of stericity (conformation) and hydrogen-framework interactions improve the material's resistance to deformation. For example, the orientationally-averaged Young's modulus of orthorhombic MAPbI3 increases by about 19% compared to the equivalent inorganic series of structures. We also find that, within the carrier-acoustic phonon scattering regime, the electron and hole carrier mobilities of hybrid halide perovskites are lowered by the hydrogen-bonding-induced tilting of the inorganic octahedra. We describe a single crystal X-ray diffraction study and computational analysis of three guanidinium (Gua) based low-dimensional iodoplumbates with one edge-sharing and two corner-sharing octahedral connectivities, respectively. (Gua)3PbI5, which is reported for the first time, has a 1D corner-sharing octahedral chain structure. GuaPbI3 adopts a 1D edge-sharing octahedral chain structure in preference to structures that are either 3D and corner-sharing (i.e., perovskite) or 1D and face-sharing. (Gua)2PbI4 exhibits 2D corner-sharing octahedral connectivity in agreement with previous work. Density functional theory calculations are used to gain insight into the relative stabilities of the three polymorphs of GuaPbI3 and to assess how the connectivity and dimensionality of the octahedral framework influence the electronic structure of each of the hybrid perovskites studied. Abstract: Following the recent discovery of a new family of hybrid ABX3 perovskites where X=(H2POO)− (hypophosphite), this work reports a facile synthesis for mixed X‐site formate perovskites of composition [GUA]Mn(HCOO)3−x(H2POO)x, with two crystallographically distinct, partially ordered intermediate phases with x=0.84 and 1.53, corresponding to ca. 30 and 50 mol % hypophosphite, respectively. Abstract: There is current interest in finding nontoxic alternatives to lead‐halide perovskites for optoelectronic applications. Silver–bismuth double perovskites have recently gained attention, but evaluating their carrier lifetime and recombination mechanisms from photoluminescence measurements is challenging due to their indirect bandgap. In this work, transient absorption spectroscopy is used to directly track the photocarrier population in Cs2AgBiBr6 by measuring the ground state bleach dynamics. A small initial drop is resolved in the ground state bleach on a picosecond timescale, after which the remaining photocarriers decay monoexponentially with a lifetime of 1.4 µs. The majority of the early‐time decay is attributed to hot‐carrier thermalization from the direct transition to the indirect bandgap, and the 1.4 µs lifetime represents the recombination of most photocarriers. From this lifetime, a steady‐state excess carrier density of 2.2 × 1016 cm−3 under 1 sun is calculated, which is an order of magnitude larger than that for methylammonium lead iodide, suggesting that charge transport and extraction can be efficient in Cs2AgBiBr6 solar cells. More than 20 000 MOFs have been reported to date, with different combinations of metal ions/centers and organic linkers, and they can be grown into various 3D, 2D, 1D and 0D morphologies. The flexibility in control over varying length scales from atomic scale up to bulk structure allows access to an almost endless variety of MOF-based and MOF-derived materials. Indeed, MOFs themselves have been studied as a class of useful functional materials. More remarkably, extensive research conducted in recent years has shown that MOFs are exceptionally good precursors for a large variety of nanohybrids as active materials in both electrocatalysis and energy storage. As they already contain both carbon and well-dispersed metal atoms, MOFs can be converted to conductive carbons decorated with active metal species and doping elements through appropriate pyrolysis. Due to the great diversity accessible in the composition, structure, and morphology of MOFs, several types of MOF-derived nanohybrids are now among the best performing materials both for electrocatalysts and electrodes in various energy conversion and storage devices. In addition to mesoporous nano-carbons, both doped and undoped, carbon–metal nanohybrids, and carbon-compound nanohybrids, there are several types of core@shell, encapsulated nanostructures, embedded nanosystems and heterostructures that have been developed from MOFs recently. They can be made in either free-standing forms, nano- or micro-powders, grown on appropriate conducting substrates, or assembled together with other active materials. During the MOF to active material conversion, other active species or precursors can be inserted into the MOF-derived nanostructures or assembled on surfaces, leading to uniquely new porous nanostructures. These MOF-derived active materials for electrocatalysis and energy storage are nanohybrids consisting of more than functional components that are purposely integrated together at desired length scales for much-improved performance. This article reviews the current status of these nanohybrids and concludes with a brief perspective on the future of MOF-derived functional materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Following the recent discovery of the [A]Mn(H2POO)3 (H2POO− = hypophosphite) perovskite family, we report the A = [NH2(CH3)2]+ (dimethylammonium, DMA) member. This phase shows an unusually large unit cell due to the position of the A-site cation within the perovskite cage windows rather than the centre, as is the norm. We discuss the tendency of the hypophosphite perovskite skeleton to accommodate differently shaped A-site cations through the generation of unconventional tilts and columnar shifts, then enumerate these tilts and shifts for all known [A]Mn(H2POO)3 phases. The diversity of halide materials related to important solar energy systems such as CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) is explored by introducing the transition metal element Fe. In particular a new compound, Cs3Fe2Br9 (space group P63/mmc with a = 7.5427(8) and c = 18.5849(13) Å), has been synthesized and found to contain 0D face-sharing Fe2Br9 octahedral dimers. Unlike its isomorph, Cs3Bi2I9, it is black in color, has a low optical bandgap of 1.65 eV and exhibits antiferromagnetic behavior below TN = 13 K.
