College students represent a unique population in terms of reasons for engaging and not engaging in masturbation given that they may have more expansive ideas about masturbation while also (for some) being limited in experience engaging in masturbation. Survey data were collected from 531 college students at a Western university in the United States. Lifetime masturbation, masturbation frequency, reasons for engaging in masturbation (or not engaging in masturbation), and body satisfaction were examined. Results indicated that only women (n = 55; 12%) and one transgender/gender non-conforming student reported never engaging in masturbation. Eighteen reasons for engaging in masturbation were identified with women reporting more nuanced reasons for engaging in masturbation. The most cited reason for engaging in masturbation was for "pleasure." Results indicated that citing pleasure as a reason for masturbation was associated with more frequency of masturbation for women (not for men). Seven reasons for not engaging in masturbation were identified (by women). Results also indicated significant differences in masturbation frequency between men and women. However, no differences were observed in body satisfaction between women that had ever masturbated and those that had not and there were no significant correlations between body satisfaction and masturbation frequency. The COVID 19 pandemic has impacted sexual health in a variety of ways. The purpose of this research was to examine the ways in which college students (attending a university providing primarily online curriculum during fall 2020 and spring 2021 semesters) perceive the pandemic influencing their sexual health and lives. Participants were undergraduate students (N = 66) at a mid-sized Western university recruited during the beginning of the spring 2021 semester. Participants completed an anonymous online survey. A Thematic Analysis of responses to two open-ended questions asking about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on their sexual health and lives was conducted. Several important themes were identified during this analysis: (1) Sexual activity and quality, (2) Relationship dynamics, (3) Self-focus, (4) New partners, (5) Sexual healthcare, (6) No change. The article discusses the activity used by the author to show how patriarchal systems have impacted the experiences of males and females across their sexual lifespan. Topics include sexuality in childhood, in adolescence and in adulthood, the method used by the author revolved within the experiential learning method of reflection, experience, and application of knowledge, and the ability to change knowledge through experiential learning methods.

The article presents a speech by Lindsay Briggs, associate instructor, School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation and Project Coordinator for the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University-Bloomington, Indiana on March 2, 2011, in which she discussed sex education, the significance of parent and child communication around sexuality issues and sex on political aspects.

Promoting consistent and correct condom use remains a priority public health activity, although some HIV- and STI-related providers remain challenged by some men's resistance to condoms, which some claim do not fit properly or do not feel comfortable. Although these perceptions have been examined across multiple populations, they have not been documented among men living with HIV. During spring 2008, data were collected from 215 men living with HIV at HIV service organizations in the Midwestern and Southeastern United States. Participants completed the Condom Fit and Feel Scale and measures related to demographics and condom use during sexual interactions within the past 90 days. Men were primarily homosexual, African American, with a high school degree or higher, and unemployed. More than half of participants had used condoms for sexual intercourse within the previous 90 days. The majority of the men reported few problems with the fit and feel of condoms, with 63.1% reporting that condoms “fit my penis just fine,” and 80.9% reported being able consistently to find condoms that they perceived to be “sized appropriately for my penis.” Some men did report specific characteristics of condoms that challenged fit and feel, including 20.6% endorsing (always or often) that condoms feel too tight, 15.9% that condoms are too short, 17.8% or that condoms would not roll down far enough to cover their penis completely (15.6%). These data provide insights into mechanisms through which providers can help to increase men's access to the diverse range of condoms in the marketplace. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
