Trichomyia is a cosmopolitan genus, and it is the only genus of Trichomyiinae to include extant species. In recent years, an increasing number of species belonging to the genus have been described, particularly from the Neotropics. However, phylogenetic studies of these species are lacking. In addition, few studies have focused on this group, and none has focused on it exclusively, making it difficult to classify objectively the high diversity known today. Herein, we present the first phylogenetic analysis of Trichomyia. We studied specimens from all continents to propose a phylogeny and used it as the basis of a new classification. Two clades proposed as genera were recovered. The canonical informal classification of Trichomyia into Groups A and B is discussed, and Gondwanotrichomyia is assigned a new status. Although we do not propose a subgeneric classification for Trichomyiinae, we provide some comments on the previously proposed subgenera based on our phylogeny. Based on recently collected material and specialised catalogues, we list 52 species of Cerambycidae occurring in the state of Sergipe, Brazil. A total of 25 specimens of Cerambycidae were collected in Propriá municipality, supported by the Semiarid Biodiversity Research Programme (PPBio /Semiarido). Fifteen species were identified in 14 genera, 10 tribes and two subfamilies. Eight species are new records for Sergipe. A new species of the genus Oreodera Audinet-Serville (Lamiinae, Acrocinini) is described and illustrated. Additionally, we describe the morphology of the male genitalia of Oreodera exigua Monné & Fragoso, 1988. The number of species known from Sergipe increases from 42 to 52 species. A new species of moth-fly, Atrichobrunettia (Polibrunettia) longipalpis sp. nov. (Psychodinae, Psychodidae), from the Brazilian Atlantic Rain Forest is described. It can be distinguished from other species of the subgenus mainly by the length of palpus that is longer and by the dentate distal margin of hypandrium. Here the distribution of A. angelae Bravo, 2006 and A. paranaensis Bravo, 2005 is reviewed and morphological data to A. paranaensis Bravo, 2006 is given to complement the original description of the species. Three new species of Trichomyia (Brachiotrichoyia) (Trichomyiinae, Psychodidae), Trichomyia spatulata sp. nov., Trichomyia ciliata sp. nov., and Trichomyia recurva sp. nov. are described and illustrated. Additionally, we present new records of Trichomyia (Brachiotrichoyia) armata Barretto, 1954, Trichomyia (Brachiotrichoyia) quatei Bravo, 2001, Trichomyia (Brachiotrichoyia) inermis Barreto, 1954, and Trichomyia (Brachiotrichoyia) plumata Bravo & Araújo, 2013 in Brazil. The unknown female of Brasineura diamantina Silva-Neto & García Aldrete is described and illustrated, with new records and comments on variation in the fore-hindwing venation, based on 27 females and 113 males collected in five localities in the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil. This paper describes and illustrates Trichomyia muiraquita Araújo & Bravo sp. nov. from the state of Amazonas, Brazil. Furthermore, with the aid of a scanning electron microscope and light microscope, we report for the first time the presence of two small sensilla in flagellomeres of the Trichomyia species. Decimiana Uvarov is a Neotropical genus of Mantodea with five South American species, three of them known from Brazil: Decimiana tessellata (Charpentier); Decimiana clavata Ippolito & Lombardo; and Decimiana bolivari (Chopard). The type specimens of Neodiogmites hirtuosus (Wiedemann, 1821), two males and one female, deposited at the Museum für Naturkunde der Humboldt-Universität (ZMHB), Berlin were examined. The specimens show the diagnostic characters of Apoxyria Schiner, 1866: face strongly pronounced, swollen and curved hind tibia, and terminalia with epandrium large and hypandrium short and obtuse. A new combination is suggested, Apoxyria hirtuosa (Wiedemann, 1821), and lectotype and paralectotypes are designated. An adult male of a newly discovered strepsipteran species from Brazil— Bahiaxenos relictus—is described. A new family Bahiaxenidae is suggested based on cladistic analyses of comprehensive morphological data sets with a broad taxon sampling including the stem group. It is unambiguously placed as the sister group of all other extant families of Strepsiptera. Bahiaxenos relictus is the only species of basal, i.e. non-stylopidian, Strepsiptera occurring in the New World. It appears to be a relict taxon that has survived in the fossil sand dunes of the São Francisco River (Bahia State). The loss of the 8th antennomere and the greatly reduced labrum are autapomorphies of Strepsiptera s.s. excluding Bahiaxenidae. The sister group relationship between†Protoxenidae and the remaining Strepsiptera, and between † Cretostylops and a clade comprising † Mengea and Strepsiptera s.s., is confirmed, as is the monophyly of Stylopidia and Stylopiformia. The article offers information on a legislation proposed by agribusiness in Brazil that eases environmental licensing and reduces the protection of Atlantic and Amazon forest and indigenous lands. Topics discussed include the threat that this legislation poses to biodiversity, the budget cuts faced by the field of science and technology in the country, and the reduced research funding in the country.
