Online harms policy debates, and subsequent legislation, take, as their starting point, a prohibitive perspective which assumes that harms that occur online can be prevented, and, because they are facilitated with digital technology, they can be prevented with such. By exploring current debates around the pinnacle of online harms legislation in the UK, the Online Safety Bill, we propose that this prohibitive mindset, along with a failure to appreciate online harms as a social ill, rather than a technical one, will emerged poorly developed without a victim centric focus. In exploring the development of legislation around the non-consensual sharing of intimate images, we illustrate the failures in victim centric policy development, and argue that there are many parallels with the 'war of drugs' and the failures to tackle these social problems with prohibitive legislation, and suggest there is much to learn from these issues should policy makers care to look. As a circulating commodity, sugar holds heavy histories of violence and exploitation that connect up map points of the former British Empire in ways that place time firmly out of joint. This article suggests how persistent visual traces of these sugar remainders can contribute to contemporary reckonings with the past time of empire. Working in the interval between commemoration and ruination, it shows how Kara Walker's A Subtlety (2014) has informed how contemporary artists and performers in Scotland engage with sugar histories in their practice. Alberta Whittle, Kayus Bankole, and Adura Onashile all figure sugar time as both continual and contemporary, linking histories of empire and post-industrial memories with artistic and activist expressions in the present. Their works respond to the violence of history in what Saidiya Hartman has termed "aesthetic mode", leading to the formation of creative and critical practices that people can enact to untangle themselves from the sedimented pain of imperial pasts. Online harms and the resultant safeguarding approaches are a key challenge for those working in the children's workforce. However, safety narratives and a wish to prevent harm, rather than mitigate risk, have arguably caused a safeguarding environment that is neither mindful of children's rights nor in their best interests. When supporting adopted and looked after children, there are some specific challenges that can result in further caution in supporting children in their use of digital technology. Empirical data presents observations on a professional environment where, with a dearth of training or policy direction, professionals are left to bring their own biases and beliefs into safeguarding judgements and, in the rush to protect, often forget the importance of working across stakeholders rather than trying to resolve issues independently. Plain Language Summary: In this article, we explore the concerns of professionals around the support of adopted and looked after children, addressing fears of online harm. Drawing upon different perspectives (from legal cases, young people and professionals), we highlight a tension between the concerns of these professionals and the challenges that adopted and looked after children face in balancing the importance of online technologies to keep in touch with friendship groups and their offline world, while remaining safe. While clearly the safety of the children is paramount for the professionals, we highlight the potential harms that can arise from excessive concern and personal biases, which are unsurprising given the lack of national coordination and media narratives. The article focuses on temporal and spatial axes that link colonization, emigration, and immigration set Italy apart from other European contexts. It mentions convergence of these accounts of temporal and spatial displacements, of pasts of outward emigration and presents of post-colonial migration. It also mentions internal child displacement in the 1950s in a context of acute violence that conditions political subjectivities.

This article identifies a set of precarious, temporary, and travelling forms of commemoration that have been expressed in recent public artworks connected to Italy, and proposes them as case studies that together can enhance our understanding of how transnational memory is formed and functions across borders. These complex processes of memory-making are illustrated through a comparative analysis of Wes Anderson's Bar Luce (2015), Thomas Hirschhorn's Gramsci Monument (2013), and Muna Mussie's Oblio (2021). The selected works, which together add transnational nuance to James E. Young's concept of the 'counter-monument', enshrine the creativity which can reside in acts of forgetting and misremembering, in experiencing things second-hand or at a distance, and in re-materialising memory through tropes of ephemerality, portability, and dislocation. This article sketches a history of how the concept of Italy has travelled worldwide to become a mobile cultural symbol in order to show how, as a signifier, "Italy" has also become increasingly detached from any national parameters of territory. It employs a lateral method of "looking sideways" at literary representations of Italy from "outside" the national canon to show how they can put pressure on what (and where) Italian culture now resides. Analyzing three contemporary works of world literature partially set in Italy (Daša Drndić's Trieste, Rachel Kushner's The Flamethrowers, and Pajtim Statovci's Crossing), it suggests that we might consider broadening out the canon of transnational Italian literature to include works neither written by Italians nor written in Italian, but that offer sideways insight into Italian history and culture from elsewhere. The catalogue to Rome-based Palestinian artist Emily Jacir's Europa exhibition of 2015 includes a short excerpt from Franco Cassano's Southern Thought entitled "Thinking on Foot". This article maps key elements of Cassano's essay, namely the focus on "Mediterranean" values of slowness, contemplation, and conviviality onto readings of Italy-based works by Emily Jacir, Diana Matar and Hisham Matar, all of which provide capacious ways to rethink the idea of pilgrimage. Reflecting on the sites, sights and routes that form the basis of these works, the article shows how they represent pilgrimage as a slow form of contemporary cultural mobility, one concerned with deep contemplation of place as a response to experiences of loss, displacement and exile. Sacred journeying is experienced here through instances of micro-travel, such as walking, standing and looking, and personal transformation is charted through moments of slow thought and memory-work, as captured in multiple, mobile artistic forms. Online abuse, facilitated via social media and mobile technologies, has recently attracted considerable academic attention. The nonconsensual sharing of intimate images—revenge pornography—can have a devastating effect on victims, is a global problem, and constitutes interpersonal violence. The national helpline in the United Kingdom has now received over 7,000 calls. In the United Kingdom, new legislation making revenge pornography a crime was introduced in 2014, yet the police do not always respond appropriately to victims. This article presents the findings of a national online survey of police understanding of revenge pornography, undertaken in the United Kingdom in March 2017. The study set out to investigate police knowledge of revenge pornography legislation, their confidence in responding to cases of revenge pornography, and what level of training they had received. A total of 783 members of the police force responded to the survey and, to the authors' knowledge, this the first study to seek to quantify the understanding of revenge pornography by police officers and staff in England and Wales. The findings suggest that the police in the United Kingdom have a limited understanding of revenge pornography legislation and lack confidence both in investigating cases and in effectively responding to victims. The implications of the study demonstrate that there is an urgent need for training across police forces to ensure that cases of revenge pornography are appropriately responded to, victims are safeguarded, and offenders brought to justice. There has been a sudden proliferation of short story anthologies published in direct response to the refugee 'crisis' of 2015 and the US travel ban of 2017. This article focuses on two of these collections (The Displaced and Banthology, both published in 2018) in order to theorize the reasons behind this phenomenon. What makes an anthology better equipped than a single authored piece of writing to respond to such contemporary themes as migration and displacement? I argue that the answer might lie in the precise nature of their heterogeneous form, which allows anthologies to be assembled and reassembled by various stakeholders during their production and reception so that they mean differently in different times and places. My analysis of the anthology as assemblage brings Deleuze and Guattari's original concept into dialogue with newer notions of queer curation and postcolonial reading in order to conceive of processes of selecting and fitting elements together as deliberate tactics. I pay particular attention to how such processes highlight the agentic role of the reader, allowing them to make their own assemblages from the multiple interrelations that emerge between the anthology's composite elements, and I show through specific examples from primary texts of how this might be done. Developing this concept of assemblage reading (which is here also transnational by nature) allows me to extend the framework of the refugee anthology to encompass a much wider range of acts of collective creation in my conclusion. The psychological consequences of child sexual abuse on children's mental health and emotional well-being are well documented, and the importance of safeguarding training for professionals working with children and young people unequivocal. Effective support for children who have been sexually abused online is essential to enable them to progress towards recovery. Yet many professionals feel they lack knowledge and understanding of how best to work with children who have been sexually abused online. This study therefore evaluates the outcomes of a short inter-professional training course designed to develop professionals' competence and confidence when responding to the needs of children and their families after online sexual abuse. Participants (n  = 114) were recruited on a voluntary basis from a range of professional backgrounds, including some teaching and social work students in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The questionnaire collected both quantitative and qualitative data. There were consistent, statistically significant improvements in the professionals' views on their knowledge of the subject, their ability to assess online risk and their confidence levels after completing the training course. The feedback from the participants suggested that the learning tools adopted in the training were highly appropriate and that the inter-professional delivery was a key aspect to the positive learning experience. This study suggests that multidisciplinary training, combined with real-life case studies, can be highly effective in improving knowledge and understanding of online Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (CSEA), thereby improving professionals' confidence in supporting children, young people and their families. Background: Health literacy is an important health promotion concern and recently children and adolescents have been the focus of increased academic attention. To assess the health literacy of this population, researchers have been focussing on developing instruments to measure their health literacy. Compared to the wider availability of instruments for adults, only a few tools are known for younger age groups. The objective of this study is to systematically review the field of generic child and adolescent health literacy measurement instruments that are currently available.Method: A systematic literature search was undertaken in five databases (PubMed, CINAHL, PsycNET, ERIC, and FIS) on articles published between January 1990 and July 2015, addressing children and adolescents ≤18 years old. Eligible articles were analysed, data was extracted, and synthesised according to review objectives.Results: Fifteen generic health literacy measurement instruments for children and adolescents were identified. All, except two, are self-administered instruments. Seven are objective measures (performance-based tests), seven are subjective measures (self-reporting), and one uses a mixed-method measurement. Most instruments applied a broad and multidimensional understanding of health literacy. The instruments were developed in eight different countries, with most tools originating in the United States (n = 6). Among the instruments, 31 different components related to health literacy were identified. Accordingly, the studies exhibit a variety of implicit or explicit conceptual and operational definitions, and most instruments have been used in schools and other educational contexts. While the youngest age group studied was 7-year-old children within a parent-child study, there is only one instrument specifically designed for primary school children and none for early years.Conclusions: Despite the reported paucity of health literacy research involving children and adolescents, an unexpected number of health literacy measurement studies in children's populations was found. Most instruments tend to measure their own specific understanding of health literacy and not all provide sufficient conceptual information. To advance health literacy instruments, a much more standardised approach is necessary including improved reporting on the development and validation processes. Background: Children and young people constitute a core target group for health literacy research and practice: during childhood and youth, fundamental cognitive, physical and emotional development processes take place and health-related behaviours and skills develop. However, there is limited knowledge and academic consensus regarding the abilities and knowledge a child or young person should possess for making sound health decisions. The research presented in this review addresses this gap by providing an overview and synthesis of current understandings of health literacy in childhood and youth. Furthermore, the authors aim to understand to what extent available models capture the unique needs and characteristics of children and young people.Method: Six databases were systematically searched with relevant search terms in English and German. Of the n = 1492 publications identified, N = 1021 entered the abstract screening and N = 340 full-texts were screened for eligibility. A total of 30 articles, which defined or conceptualized generic health literacy for a target population of 18 years or younger, were selected for a four-step inductive content analysis.Results: The systematic review of the literature identified 12 definitions and 21 models that have been specifically developed for children and young people. In the literature, health literacy in children and young people is described as comprising variable sets of key dimensions, each appearing as a cluster of related abilities, skills, commitments, and knowledge that enable a person to approach health information competently and effectively and to derive at health-promoting decisions and actions.Discussion: Identified definitions and models are very heterogeneous, depicting health literacy as multidimensional, complex construct. Moreover, health literacy is conceptualized as an action competence, with a strong focus on personal attributes, while also recognising its interrelatedness with social and contextual determinants. Life phase specificities are mainly considered from a cognitive and developmental perspective, leaving children's and young people's specific needs, vulnerabilities, and social structures poorly incorporated within most models. While a critical number of definitions and models were identified for youth or secondary school students, similar findings are lacking for children under the age of ten or within a primary school context. Dejected by decades of commercial and critical failure, the Triestine author Italo Svevo found fresh inspiration for his final novel (La coscienza di Zeno, 1923) in the writings of Freud. Yet critics have always puzzled over his declared intransigence toward his new master, often attributing this ambivalence to a simple defense mechanism. But what if Svevo had been reading other works simultaneously, works that challenged and exposed the weaknesses of psychoanalytic authority? As this article argues, Svevo's recently discovered reading of Kierkegaard's "existential irony" sheds light on his conception of the power of both narrative and the analytical process itself. Purpose – This study aims to examine current key debates on learning technologies in the everyday life of lecturers and explores their experiences of learning technologies. Design/methodology/approach – The research adopted a mixed method ethnographic approach to explore the perceptions of academics at a new university in the UK. The narrative and image data was collected via 30 interviews and an online forum and then subjected to grounded theory analysis. This study presents the findings of the study and discusses aspects of quality and meaningful engagement by academic staff with learning technologies in a higher education environment. Findings – Analysis of the data revealed the central concepts of paradigms, paradoxes and professionalism. The diversity of perspectives of staff and students, skills, motivations and capabilities is fundamental to developing, supporting and promoting the innovative use of e-learning and learning technologies in learning, teaching and assessment. Originality/value – This study examined the reality of lecturers' relationships with learning technologies in everyday life and the diversity of those lived experiences in relation to social change and educational ideologies. This study is, therefore, significant and adds to knowledge and understanding of academics' perspectives which Hanson claims have previously been neglected. This article explores children's use of mobile phones in relation to their intimate, sexual relationships and in their development of gendered sexual identities in their everyday lives. Implications of risk and mobile phones are reflected in current media discourse and contemporary public discussions. While the concept of risk remains at the centre of current sociological debate, children have only recently been seen as active social actors within social science. Based on the accounts of 30 young people aged between 11 and 17, the article adopts a social constructivist perspective to explore the relationship between young people's talk of sexuality and sexual acts in their discussions of mobile phone use, within the wider theoretical debates about risk and self-identity. Chronic wounds come in all shapes and sizes and may be associated with co-morbidities that have a direct impact upon healing and the quality of life of patients, their families, carers, and even co-workers. Cosmetic appearance is important to both genders but especially so to female patients and unsightly wounds that are difficult to hide cause extreme problems that may have psychological implications. In addition to the effect that they have on patients, these wounds are associated with considerable resource requirements, which impact heavily on the already burdened NHS. This article presents three case studies of patients with chronic wounds that have shown a positive response, in terms of healing and impact upon the patient's quality of life, to an advanced wound care product -- Xelma®.
