Patients and Methods: This study used a cross-sectional survey design and convenience sampling to gather data from respondents aged 18 years or older who had visited healthcare facilities at least once in the past year and were uninsured. WTP was determined using the contingent valuation method, and a two-part regression model was applied to analyze the factors influencing WTP. Results: The study included 4232 participants and discovered that approximately 17.41% were willing to pay for telemedicine services. Those aged 60 and older, employed in the government or private sector, in higher socioeconomic quintiles, and experiencing chronic health issues showed a positive association with their WTP value. Conversely, individuals aged between 30 and 44 years, married, and unemployed exhibited a negative association with a lower WTP value. Conclusion: The findings indicate that most respondents hesitated to pay for telemedicine services, with a significant influence from sociodemographic characteristics, underscoring the need to promote telemedicine use among underserved populations and address health disparities. Background: Herbal supplements (HSs) are used to treat a variety of diseases and ailments. Individuals with chronic diseases are at a higher risk of having adverse events and drug interactions from the use of HSs. Aim: This study determined the beliefs, awareness, use, and factors associated with HSs usage among patients with chronic diseases in Alkharj, Saudi Arabia. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among patients with chronic diseases between February and June 2019. Face-to-face interviews were conducted at various out-patient clinics in different hospitals. Patients diagnosed with chronic diseases were included in the study. Data were analyzed by descriptive, comparative, and inferential statistics using SAS ver. 9.4. Results: The study participants were consisted of 533 patients, with mean age 53.6 ±12.9 years. The most prevalent chronic diseases were diabetes mellitus (67.7%), followed by hypertension (54.8%), and hyperlipidemia (53.8%). Among the studied participants, 336 (63%) had used at least one HS, whereby the most commonly used HSs were ginger (74.7%), mint (72%), and cumin (66.7%). Almost 78% of HSs users did not consult any healthcare provider about their use. HSs use varied significantly between female and male participants (p<0.05), whereby 61.5% of female participants used HSs in comparison to the male participants (38.5%). Gender (AOR 0.328; 95% CI 0.139–0.772; p = 0.0107), number of chronic diseases (AOR 1.585; 95% CI 1.084–2.318; p = 0.0312), and hyperlipidemia (AOR 2.818; 95% CI 1.507–5.269; p = 0.0.0012) were the pure factors of HSs use among the studied patients. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that HSs usage was high among patients with chronic diseases in Saudi Arabia. Concurrent usage of HSs with drugs should be well-discussed with healthcare providers to avoid potential adverse events or drug interactions especially among patients with chronic diseases. Purpose: This study investigated the access to and disparities in telemedicine use among patients with chronic conditions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.Patients and Methods: A cross-sectional study of randomly selected primary healthcare centers was conducted to ensure that each of the 17 municipalities in Riyadh were represented. Three hundred and forty-two participants who completed the questionnaire were interviewed using a standardized questionnaire. The relationship between demographic and socioeconomic factors and telemedicine utilization was evaluated using the chi-square test and multivariable mixed-effects logistic regression model.Results: Among the 342 participants, the study revealed that 25.73% of the patients utilized telemedicine. Older participants had lower odds of telemedicine use than did those aged ≤ 30 years [adjusted odds ratio (AOR) = 0.112, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.045– 0.279 for 50– 59 years; AOR = 0.19, 95% CI = 0.076– 0.474 for 60– 69 years; AOR = 0.223, 95% CI = 0.092– 0.542 for ≥ 70 years]. Female sex (AOR = 2.519, 95% CI = 1.44– 4.408), having a higher education level (AOR = 3.434, 95% CI = 1.037– 7.041 for secondary education and AOR = 5.87, 95% CI = 2.761– 8.235 for higher education), and living in urban areas (AOR = 2.721, 95% CI = 1.184– 6.256) were associated with higher odds of telemedicine use. Among socioeconomic factors, employed participants had higher odds of telemedicine use (AOR = 4.336, 95% CI = 2.3– 8.174). Furthermore, compared to those with the highest socioeconomic status (SES) index, those with the lowest SES were less likely to use telemedicine than those with the highest SES index (AOR = 0.193, 95% CI = 0.055– 0.683 for the lower bottom (poorest).Conclusion: This study highlights a significant disparity in the utilization of telemedicine services across different populations, primarily due to demographic and socioeconomic factors. Providing palliative care to patients with life-threatening illnesses requires multidisciplinary efforts from different healthcare providers. Identifying the attitude, knowledge, and intentions of pharmacists to provide this service in Saudi Arabia is essential. Therefore, this study aimed to identify the palliative care knowledge, intentions, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioural control of pharmacists and what factors predict their intentions. Cross-sectional questionnaires based on the theory of planned behaviour were distributed to pharmacists in hospitals and community pharmacies. They included items that measured palliative care knowledge, attitudes, intentions, subjective norms, and the perceived behavioural control of pharmacists and identified other sociodemographic and pharmacy-practice-related items. In total, 131 pharmacists completed the questionnaires, showing an average score on palliative knowledge (8.82 ± 1.96; range: 1–14), strong intentions (5.84 ± 1.41; range: 1–7), positive attitudes (6.10 ± 1.47; range: 1–7), positive subjective norms (5.31 ± 1.32; range: 1–7), and positive perceived behavioural control (5.04 ± 1.21; range: 1–7). Having completed a pharmacy residency program, working longer hours per week, having a more positive attitude, and perceived stronger subjective norms were significantly associated with a strong intention to provide palliative care services. Therefore, enabling and motivating pharmacists to complete pharmacy residency programs and improve their attitudes could increase their intentions to provide these services. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Telepharmacy is a technology-based service that provides promoted services such as counseling, medication administration and compounding, drug therapy monitoring, and prescription review. It is unclear whether hospital pharmacists possess the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and willingness to practice telepharmacy. The current study sought to investigate Saudi Arabian hospital pharmacists' understanding, attitudes, and level of preparedness for telepharmacy services. A total of 411 pharmacists responded to the survey. Only 43.33% of the respondents agreed that telepharmacy is available in Saudi Arabia and 36.67% of the respondents agreed that patients in rural areas can have more medication access and information via telepharmacy. Only 29.33% of pharmacists agreed that telepharmacy improves patient medication adherence, and about 34.00% of the pharmacists agreed that telepharmacy saves patients money and time by eliminating the need for them to travel to healthcare facilities. This research found that hospital pharmacists were unsure of their level of knowledge, their attitude toward telepharmacy, and their willingness to incorporate it into their future pharmacy practices. To ensure that tomorrow's pharmacists have the skills they need to provide telepharmacy services, telepharmacy practice models must be incorporated into the educational programs that prepare them. The fractional model of diffusion equations is very important in the study of oil pollution in the water. The key objective of this article is to analyze a fractional modification of diffusion equations occurring in oil pollution associated with the Katugampola derivative in the Caputo sense. An effective and reliable computational method q-homotopy analysis generalized transform method is suggested to obtain the solutions of fractional order diffusion equations. The results of this research are demonstrated in graphical and tabular descriptions. This study shows that the applied computational technique is very effective, accurate, and beneficial for managing such kind of fractional order nonlinear models occurring in oil pollution. Work stress occurs when employees have to deal with pressures that do not align with their skills, knowledge, or expectations. This study aimed to assess the impact of work stress on job satisfaction among pharmacists in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, a cross-sectional, self-administered, paper-based survey was conducted between August 2019 and October 2020 using three scales. Descriptive and analytical statistical analyses were performed. A linear regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between occupational stress and job satisfaction among Saudi pharmacists. A total of 284 questionnaires were completed. Multiple linear regression analyses showed a significant negative relationship between occupational stress and job satisfaction (β = −0.456, 95% CI, −0.561 to −0.350), a positive relationship between confirmation and satisfaction (β = 0.147, 95% CI, 0.005 to –0.290), and a negative relationship between working in hospitals and job satisfaction (β= −3.009; 95% CI, −5.424 to −0.593) when other variables were kept constant. The results of this study indicated that occupational stress and satisfaction negatively influenced pharmacists, whereas confirmation was associated with better satisfaction. Moreover, hospital pharmacists had lower job satisfaction. The job satisfaction of pharmacists may help improve medication safety and ensure an adequate pharmacist workforce. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The COVID-19 pandemic severely affected healthcare systems and tested their preparedness. To date, the length of hospital stay (LoHS) and its factors among COVID-19 patients has not been thoroughly studied. Moreover, it is essential to identify the features of these patients. Adult COVID-19 patients in Saudi Arabia with complete electronic medical records and who were hospitalised for >1 day between 1 May 2020 and 30 July 2020 at one of two hospitals were considered for this retrospective cohort study. Descriptive statistics and multivariate generalized linear models were performed using the data. Of the patients, 34% were ≥50 years old and 80.14% were female. More than 70% had mild-to-moderate symptoms; 45% had either diabetes or hypertension. The median LoHS was 7.00 days (IQR: 3–11). Patients who were females, had either critical or severe disease, were on mechanical ventilation, had diabetes, and administered ceftriaxone had significantly longer LoHS (p < 0.05). Patients administered zinc sulphate had significantly shorter LoHS (p = 0.0008). During the first pandemic wave, COVID-19 patients were hospitalised for 7 days. Healthcare professionals should pay more attention to women, patients with diabetes, and those with severe or critical symptoms. Unnecessary use of ceftriaxone should be minimised, and zinc sulphate can be administered. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Perioperative antimicrobial prophylaxis is effective in reducing the rate of surgical site infections (SSIs); however, non-adherence to surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis protocols can lead to several negative outcomes. We performed a before-and-after intervention study with the aim of improving the process outcome, including adherence to guidelines. Another objective of this study was to investigate improvement in patient outcomes as a result of adherence to a surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis programme. The indicators of improved patient outcomes were a reduction in overall SSI rate and the decreased cost of antibiotics. SSI rate was calculated as a percentage by dividing the number of SSIs by the total number of surgeries and then multiplying the value obtained by 100%. The interventions implemented in the surgical antimicrobial prophylaxis programme included establishment of a guideline, educational sessions, and a monthly revision of prescriptions. Our findings show that implementation of the interventions resulted in reduced antibiotic consumption, a considerable decrease in the cost of prophylaxis, and a decrease in the incidence of SSIs. In this paper, we implement the semi‐analytical schemes, namely, local fractional homotopy perturbation Sumudu transform method (LFHPSTM) and local fractional homotopy analysis Sumudu transform method (LFHASTM), for finding the approximate analytical solutions of local fractional Laplace equations under different initial conditions on Cantor sets. The novelty of the work lies in the application of these suggested schemes which were never used to solve the local fractional Laplace equation. The Laplace equation mainly contributes to electrostatistics, mechanical engineering, and theoretical physics. This equation also helps in formulation of the electrostatic problem of a rod under a torsion load. Moreover, it helps in handling potential field problems also. These aspects enhance the significance of getting a solution of the local fractional Laplace equation in fractal media. The suggested methods are copulation of local fractional homotopy perturbation method and local fractional homotopy analysis method with the local fractional Sumudu transform, respectively. The computational process indicates that the schemes are very efficient to obtain nondifferentiable solutions for given equations in a smooth way. Moreover, the solution analysis depicts that both the local fractional hybrid homotopy schemes are in a good agreement with each other. These methods depict the accuracy and efficiency of the implemented methods in view of correspondence with solutions obtained with other methods in previous works. The numerical simulations for obtained results are discussed for various values of order of a local fractional derivative. (1) Background: Many factors may play a role in deciding to opt for pharmacy as a major. However, no previous studies have been conducted in Saudi Arabia to explore these factors. This study aims to identify the potential factors that prompted students to join the pharmacy program. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire was distributed among undergraduate pharmacy students in Saudi Arabia, addressing areas such as reasons that encourage them to choose pharmacy as a major, and students' socio-demographic characteristics. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the study variables, and a simple logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the potential factors. (3) Results: A total of 491 students completed the questionnaire. Around 40% of them had chosen to study pharmacy as their first choice. Only gender, current GPA, and reasons related to the pharmacy field were found to have a statistically significant association with students selecting pharmacy as their first choice. (4) Conclusions: This study shows that pharmacy students have a future-oriented outlook and selected pharmacy as their first choice because it will develop them professionally, financially, and intellectually. Educating high school students about the characteristic of pharmacy would help attract more talented students to the pharmacy carrier. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
