Background: Postnatal care (PNC) is essential for early identification and management of life-threatening obstetric complications. Despite efforts by the Ethiopian government to improve maternal and child health service use, PNC service has remained low, and disparity across geographic locations is a major public health problem. This study aimed to investigate the change and contributing factors in PNC service use across geographical locations (rural-urban) and over time (2016 to 2019) in Ethiopia. Methods: We analyzed data on women who gave birth from the 2016 and 2019 Ethiopian Demographic and Health Surveys. A total of 6,413 weighted samples (4,308 in 2016 and 2,105 in 2019) were included in the analysis. A multivariate decomposition analysis technique was used to determine the change and identify factors that contributed to the change across geographical locations and over time. Statistical significance was defined at a 95% confidence interval with a p-value of less than 0.05. Results: The prevalence of PNC use was higher among urban residents, and the urban-rural disparity reduced from 32.59% in 2016 to 19.08% in 2019. The difference in the composition of explanatory variables was the only statistically significant for the urban-rural disparity in PNC use in both surveys. Specifically, female household heads (4.51%), delivery at a health facility (83.45%), and birth order of two to three (5.53%) and four or more (-12.24%) in 2016 significantly contributed to the urban-rural gap. However, in 2019, middle wealth index (-14.66%), Muslim religion (3.84%), four or more antennal care contacts (18.29%), and delivery at a health facility (80.66%) significantly contributed to the urban-rural gap. PNC use increased from 16.61% in 2016 to 33.86% in 2019. About 60% of the explained change was due to the difference in the composition of explanatory variables. Particularly, urban residence (-5.79%), a rich wealth index (2.31%), Muslim (3.42%), and other (-2.76%) religions, having radio or television (1.49%), 1–3 (-1.13%), and 4 or more (11.09%) antenatal care contacts, and delivery at a health facility (47.98%) were statistically significant contributors to the observed change. The remaining 40% of the overall change was due to the difference in unknown behaviors (coefficient) of the population towards PNC. Conclusions: There was a significant change in PNC service use by residence location and over time in Ethiopia, with urban women in both surveys being more likely to use PNC service. The urban-rural disparity in PNC uptake was due to the difference in the composition of explanatory variables, whereas the change over time was due to the change in both the composition of explanatory variables and population behavior towards PNC. Increased antenatal care contacts and delivery at a health facility played a major role in explaining the gap in PNC services across residences and over time in Ethiopia, highlighting the importance of stepping up efforts to enhance their uptake in rural settings. We present a time-lapse 4-D high-resolution synchrotron imaging study of the morphological evolution of methane gas bubbles and hydrate film growth on these bubbles. Methane gas and partially water-saturated sand were used to form hydrate with a maximum hydrate saturation of 60%. We investigated the transient evolution of gas bubble size distribution during hydrate formation and observed three distinct stages: a) nucleation and hydrate film formation, b) rapid bubble break-up, c) gas bubble coalescence and hydrate framework formation. Our results show that the average gas bubble size distribution decreases from 34.17 μιτι (during hydrate nucleation) to 8.87 μιτι (during secondary bubble formation). The small-size methane bubble population (mean diameter below 10 μm) initially increases at the expense of the larger methane bubble population (mean diameter above 50 μη) due to breakage of the larger bubbles and coalescence of the smaller bubbles. We quantified that the average hydrate film thickness increases from 3.51 to 14.7 μ!! by tracking the evolution of a particular gas bubble. This thickness increase agrees with an analytical model with an average deviation error of 3.3%. This study provides insights into gas bubble distribution and hydrate film growth during hydrate formation, both of which impact the geophysical and mechanical properties of hydrate-bearing sediments. Background: The community-based health insurance (CBHI) scheme is a growing initiative aimed at enhancing healthcare access for the most impoverished members of the community. The Ethiopian CBHI scheme aims to enhance access to essential healthcare services, including medical laboratory services, for the poorest members of the community, but there is limited evidence on satisfaction levels. The aim of this study was to assess the satisfaction level of CBHI beneficiaries with laboratory services and their associated factors among selected public hospitals in Jimma Zone, Oromia Region, Ethiopia. Methods: A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted on selected public hospitals in the Jimma Zone from September to October 2023. A total of 421 CBHI beneficiaries were enrolled in the study using a convenient sampling technique, and interviewers administered structured questionnaires to collect data. Data were entered into Epi-data and analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences version 25. Descriptive analysis was used to summarize independent variables; bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were done to test the association between independent and dependent variables; and statistical significance was declared at P<0.05. Results: More than half (55.8%) of the 419 study participants were female. Above half, 57.5% of the respondents were satisfied by the clinical laboratory services at public hospitals in Jimma Zone. Components with a higher satisfaction rate were providers' professional appearances (98.3%), procedures for specimen collection (87.6%), and availability of entertainment facilities at the waiting area (67.8%). On the contrary, longer waiting times to receive the test results (76.6%), inefficiency of the reception area (74.7%), and the inability of professionals to explain diagnostic procedures (58.0%) were associated with higher rates of dissatisfaction. Educational status and the number of hospital visits were found to have a statistically significant association with level of satisfaction with laboratory services. Conclusions: CBHI beneficiaries' satisfaction with laboratory service was at a moderate level in Jimma Zone public hospitals. Therefore, attention should be given to continuous monitoring of patients' satisfaction with services, improving reception areas, and practicing routine explanations about the purposes and procedures during specimen collection to improve the beneficiaries' satisfaction level with clinical laboratory services. The incorporation of converter-based generating sources in utility-scale microgrids causes frequency instability and low-frequency oscillations (LFOs), which is also a reason for degeneration in system stability. Damping frequency control is an essential part of alternating current (AC) microgrid system operation and control. Sudden changes in load, variations in renewable power outputs due to changes in solar insolation or wind speed, and so on factors cause the system frequency to deviate from the nominal value. Therefore, the role of a frequency controller is to maintain the dynamic stability in an AC microgrid by retaining the system frequency at the nominal value. Again, AC microgrids with high renewable power penetration face even more difficulty in maintaining frequency stability because of their poor inertial response. The research presented here proposes a novel approach for grid-connected AC microgrid oscillation damping and frequency control that simultaneously takes into consideration time delay and noise. To improve the frequency response and dampen LFOs by providing the voltage and frequency within the specified range, a coordinated technique-based control approach is adopted. In the developed hybrid control, the frequency controller relies on active power modulation, while the power oscillation damping controller is dependent on reactive power modulation. To improve stability and reduce communication consequences such as noise and signal latency (time delay), the developed power oscillation damping controller and frequency controller are coordinated along with the robust linear quadratic Gaussian controller. The comparative investigation of the effectiveness of the coordinated control technique is employed in the software of MATLAB/Simulink for grid-connected AC microgrid. The outcome of the simulation illustrates the superior effectiveness of the suggested controller over the traditional droop controller for huge power flows under disturbance with various operating conditions, under/overfrequency events, time delay, and noise. Infancy and early childhood are periods of dietary transition. Early exposure to specific foods and the establishment of dietary habits during this period can shape long-term food preferences and have lasting effects on health. This study aimed to examine the longitudinal trajectories of sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) intake in Australian children from birth to age 3 years and identify early-life and socioeconomic factors influencing those trajectories. Mother–infant dyads (n = 934) from the Healthy Smiles Healthy Kids birth cohort study were interviewed on their weekly frequency of SSB intake at 4-month, 8-month, 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year age points. Group-based trajectory modelling analysis was performed to identify trajectories for SSB intake among Australian children. A multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify the maternal and child-related predictors of resulting trajectories. The intake of SSBs showed two distinct quadratic trajectories (high and low) with age. While the two trajectories remained distinctive throughout, the SSB consumption for both groups consistently increased between 4 months and 2 years of age and subsequently stabilised. Compared to low SSB consumers (75%), the high SSB consumers (25%) were significantly more likely to be living in households with three or more children (relative risk (RR): 1.59, 95%CI: 1.02–2.48), had low maternal education (left school < year 12—RR: 1.75, 95%CI: 1.09–2.81; completed year 12—RR: 1.57, 95%CI: 1.02–2.81), and resided in highly/the most socioeconomically disadvantaged areas (highly disadvantaged—RR: 1.89, 95%CI: 1.13–3.18; most disadvantaged—RR: 2.06, 95%CI: 1.25–3.38). Children's SSB intake patterns are established early in life as they transition from infancy to preschool age, and the trajectories of intake established during early childhood are strongly influenced by socioeconomic factors. Social-educational robotics, such as NAO humanoid robots with social, anthropomorphic, humanlike features, are tools for learning, education, and addressing developmental disorders (e.g., autism spectrum disorder or ASD) through social and collaborative robotic interactions and interventions. There are significant gaps at the intersection of social robotics and autism research dealing with how robotic technology helps ASD individuals with their social, emotional, and communication needs, and supports teachers who engage with ASD students. This research aims to (a) obtain new scientific knowledge on social-educational robotics by exploring the usage of social robots (especially humanoids) and robotic interventions with ASD students at high schools through an ASD student-teacher co-working with social robot-social robotic interactions triad framework; (b) utilize Business Model Canvas (BMC) methodology for robot design and curriculum development targeted at ASD students; and (c) connect interdisciplinary areas of consumer behavior research, social robotics, and human-robot interaction using customer discovery interviews for bridging the gap between academic research on social robotics on the one hand, and industry development and customers on the other. The customer discovery process in this research results in eight core research propositions delineating the contexts that enable a higher quality learning environment corresponding with ASD students' learning requirements through the use of social robots and preparing them for future learning and workforce environments. Early childhood caries (ECC) is a growing public health concern worldwide. Although numerous systematic reviews have been published regarding the association between breastfeeding and early childhood caries (ECC), the results remain inconclusive and equivocal. This systematic review synthesises the evidence on the association between breastfeeding and ECC. Five electronic databases and backward citation chasing were performed from inception until May 2023. A total of 31 studies (22 cohort studies and 9 case-control studies) were included in this review. The meta-analysis of the case-control studies showed statistically significant fewer dental caries in children who were breastfed for < 6 months compared to those who were breastfed for ≥6 months (OR = 0.53, 95% CI 0.41–0.67, p < 0.001). There was a statistically significant difference in dental caries between children who were breastfed for <12 months and those who were breastfed for ≥12 months (RR = 0.65, 95% CI 0.50–0.86, p < 0.002). Similarly, there was a statistically significant difference in dental caries in children who were breastfed for < 18 months compared to those who were breastfed for ≥18 months (RR = 0.41, 95% CI 0.18–0.92, p = 0.030). Nocturnal breastfeeding increases the risk of ECC compared with no nocturnal breastfeeding (RR = 2.35, 95% CI 1.42–3.89, p < 0.001). Compact size of the heat exchange module is an important design consideration in majority of the thermal management systems. Using winglet type vortex generators, a sizeable improvement in the compactness of a widely used finned-tube array is attempted through this study. Since the degree of thermal augmentation changes with the generators' position, around the tubes, this 3D comprehensive computational investigation aims to develop phenomenological correlations for the positional optimization, which are applicable over a wide range of operating conditions. Besides, this article is dedicated to understanding different aspects of the augmentation mechanism, including the tube-wake management and the performance improvement caused by the best design(s). Based on a parametric investigation, designs that are best suited for obtaining a sizeable performance augmentation of the system are identified. Furthermore, a critical assessment of the best designs is carried out to evaluate their impact on the heat transfer from wake-affected surfaces, both fins and tubes. It is encouraging to observe that the wake-affected surfaces also experience sizeable thermal augmentation, which increases further with the Reynolds number. While the total fin surface experiences a highest Colburn j -factor augmentation of 53.6%, the wake-affected fin undergoes 205.1% rise. In Australia, dental caries are observed in almost half of children starting school. Oral health promotion programs are being implemented in early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings to promote oral health. This study examined children's perceptions of one such program, the Bright Smiles Bright Futures (BSBF) program in ECEC settings in New South Wales, Australia. Data were collected using focus group discussions from 15 children aged 3–5 years, transcribed verbatim, and analysed through inductive thematic analysis. Three themes were identified as follows: (i) oral health knowledge of children, (ii) oral hygiene practices routine and skills development, and (iii) evaluation of the oral health promotion kit and opportunities for improvement. Children's perspectives highlight the BSBF program's success in communicating key messages to promote oral health. The integration of family-centric approaches, acknowledgement of children's preferences, and the use of interactive tools collectively enhance the overall effectiveness of the oral health promotion program. Innate and adaptive immunity play a crucial role in allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) pathogenesis. We performed next-generation sequencing using the Illumina TruSight One panel (4,811 human disease-associated genes, at least 20 × coverage) and selected 22 known immune genes (toll-like receptors (TLRs), C-type lectin, interleukin-4 receptor, and others). We included ABPA (n = 18), asthma without ABPA (n = 12), and healthy controls (n = 8). We analyzed 3011 SNPs from 22 genes and identified 145 SNPs (13 genes) that were present only in the disease groups and absent in controls. The SNP frequency overall was significantly higher in ABPA than in asthmatics (89/145 [61.4%] vs. 56/145 [38.6%], p = 0.0001). The SNP frequency in the TLR10 gene was also significantly higher in ABPA than in asthma (p = 0.017). Association analysis further revealed three genes having significant associations. Of these, NOS3 and HLA-DQB1 are associated with antimicrobial activity and adaptive immunity. More extensive studies are required to confirm our findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed at enhancing the physico-chemical, nutritional, nutraceutical, and sensory characteristics of cookies by incorporating whole cereals (wheat and finger millet) flour and replacing sugar with jaggery as an alternate sweetener. A series of jaggery-based cookies using, refined flour (RF), RJC; wheat flour (WF), WJC; non-germinated finger millet (MF), WMJC, and germinated finger millet flour (GMF), WGMJC, were developed and compared with control sugar cookies. Further, cookies were analysed for their physico-chemical parameters (pH, spread ratio, colour, texture, and dough rheology), nutritional composition nutraceutical properties [total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activities], sensory attributes, and shelf-life. Additionally, MF, GMF, WMJC, and WGMJC were also evaluated for total amino-acid (AA) and phytic acid contents. Incorporation of JP, WF, MF and GMF in cookies improved their physico-chemical, nutritional, and nutraceutical properties. The WGMJC cookies had the highest levels of TPC (2.87 µg GAE/mg), TFC (0.8 µg QE/mg), antioxidant activities (ABTS and DPPH IC50 of 11.75 mg/mL and 18.39 mg/mL, respectively), and AA content (193.33 mg/g), with lowest phytic acid content (69.3 mg/g). Shelf life studies conducted on jaggery cookies demonstrated a level of stability similar to that of control sugar cookies. The spouted fluidized bed process is a multiphase heat and mass transfer flow. The process requires effective solid-gas and solid-solid interaction. Various numerical models have been developed to understand and optimize these interactions. However, most of these models have used spherical particle definition, whereas the actual particles are non-spherical. Here we present coupled Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) and Discrete Element Method(DEM) based model to analyze the fluidized bed process for non-spherical particles (Faceted cylinder). The model results are validated with experimental results for spherical particles. The model is further used to understand mixing during the process as a function of non-spherical particle geometry. Aspect ratio and corner count were the geometrical input parameters for faceted cylinder-shaped particles. Transient plots for bubble diameter and bed height for spouted fluidized beds were created for all cases. The bubble diameter and bed height values were much lower for faceted cylinder particles than for spherical particles. For non-spherical particles, the increased number of corners was a crucial factor that brought the outcomes closer to those of spherical-shaped particles. The aspect ratio values increased, and the bubble diameter shrank as a result of more resistance to particle movement. The results would be of great use to correctly simulate non- spherical particles based fluidized bed process and optimize various process parameters. The coupled CFD-DEM method was used to analyze the hydrodynamics of spouted fluidized beds for spherical and faceted cylinder particles by plotting bubble diameter and bed height Analysis showed that non-sphericity brought resistance to the movement of particles inside the chamber, affecting efficient mixing between phases. The increased number of corners for non-spherical particles became the dominating parameter compared to aspect ratio for resembling results of fluidized beds closer to spherical-shaped particles. The present study reports air-based novel energy saving compact bank type earth air heat exchanger system (EAHE) (having only 25m2 area) fabricated from Polyvinylchloride pipes of nominal diameter 0.203 mm (8 inches) for inlet and outlet headers and main pipes and 0.150 mm (6 inches nominal diameter) for branched pipes, which is installed in Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur in Punjab state, India (North West border area of India) and studied for the duration from April to August 2021 using the full factorial design with four inlet variables at multilevel to find a model equation between inlet and outlet variables, i.e., heat exchanger effectiveness and achieved temperature difference. An induced airflow mode has been used to provide near-uniform flow through all corresponding pipes of symmetrical-shaped earth air heat exchangers. The values of Dry bulb temperature (DBT) and wet bulb temperature (WBT) have been measured for air inlet, for air outlet, as well as for ambient air using resistance temperature detectors (RTD) installed at the requisite locations. Earth's undisturbed temperature (EUT) was also noted by installing RTD at a depth of 2 m, and the average measured value of EUT is found to be 28.5°C. The current system has imparted the temperature difference variation from 0.4 oC to 9.4 oC, and the effectiveness varied from 0.16 to 0.82 during the whole season. This system could give a cooling potential of 0.0523 kJ/s to 1.587 kJ/s using a mass flow rate of 0.163 kg/s.Experiments have been designed methodically to apply the full factorial technique. Most favorable parameters have been found for hot and dry and hot and humid weather. The escalating threat posed by metal contamination to both biota and the environment has become a significant global concern. These pollutants have the potential to enter the food chain and pose adverse health effects on human beings. Traditional methods of pollutant removal are often costly and time-consuming, necessitating the need for an eco-friendly and cost-effective approach such as phytoremediation. However, despite its widespread use, phytoremediation possesses inherent limitations, primarily its slow rate of remediation, often spanning several decades. To overcome these limitations, the use of nanoparticles in conjunction with phytoremediation has emerged as a rapid and environmentally friendly alternative that mitigates secondary environmental impacts such as greenhouse gas emissions, waste generation, and depletion of natural resources. Certain nanoparticles have been found to enhance the production of biomass in hyperaccumulator plants and assist in the scavenging of pollutants by augmenting antioxidant activities. This review provides insights into the mechanisms employed by plants during phytoremediation of contaminated soil, specifically focusing on the removal of heavy metals as well as highlighting the potential benefits derived from nanoparticle-assisted phytoremediation. Furthermore, future prospects for harnessing the full potential of nanoparticle-mediated phytoremediation are explored. While nano-phytoremediation holds promise as an effective soil cleanup strategy, further research and long-term studies are necessary to ensure its potential acceptability and effectiveness. Objective: To conduct a systematic review of experimental or quasi-experimental studies that aimed to improve the nutritional status of children under 5 years of age in Ethiopia. Design: Embase, MEDLINE/PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), PsychINFO, and Academic Search Database were used to locate peer-reviewed studies, and Google Scholar and Open Dissertation were used to locate grey literatures. All searches were conducted between 2000 and November 2022. Setting: Ethiopia. Participants: Pregnant women and mothers with children aged 0–59 months. Results: Ten cluster randomised controlled trials (RCT), six quasi-experimental studies and two individual RCT were included. Out of the identified eighteen studies, three studies targeted pregnant mothers. Our findings showed that almost two-thirds of published interventions had no impact on childhood stunting and wasting, and more than half had no impact on underweight. Some behaviour change communication (BCC) interventions, food vouchers, micronutrient supplementation and quality protein maize improved stunting. Similarly, BCC and fish oil supplementation showed promise in reducing wasting, while BCC and the provision of quality protein maize reduced underweight. Additionally, water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH) interventions provided to pregnant mothers and children under 2 years of age were shown to significantly reduce childhood stunting. Conclusion: Future childhood nutritional interventions in Ethiopia should consider adopting an integrated approach that combines the positive effects of interdependent systems such as BCC, food supplemental programmes (e.g. boosting protein and micronutrients), health interventions (e.g. strengthening maternal and childcare), WaSH and financial initiatives (e.g. monetary support and income schemes). This paper presents a coordinated wide-area damping control of power system stabilizers (PSSs), static synchronous compensator (STATCOM), and static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) for grid-forming based wind and solar PV generation resources. The main objective of this work is to enhance the damping for inter-area oscillations while maintaining the voltage and frequency in the prescribed range, taking into consideration the operational uncertainties. Better voltage and reactive power support are provided by the use of STATCOM and for additional damping, an SSSC is employed with the coordinated wide-area damping controller (CWADC). Variable-speed wind turbine control methodology strategically combined with inertia control, de-loading control, pitch angle control, and electronic rotor speed control is employed to obtain an optimum response for discontinuous generation mixes and variable wind speed. The geometric measures of controllability/observability and residues method have been utilized to choose the appropriate input control signals and optimal location of CWADC. A multi-objective salp swarm algorithm has been used to optimize the parameters of the proposed CWADC. To demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed CWADC, nonlinear time-domain simulations are performed on a modified IEEE 68-bus test system embedded with hybrid wind-solar power plants considered multiple time delays. Iron has been one of the most critical technotraditions that had lasting impact on social formation throughout the Iron Age and historical period. Iron was used in warfare and subsistence economy. Our knowledge on ancient iron smelting and working have generally been derived from ethnography and ethnohistory, which is by all means, time, region, and raw material specific. Scientific analyses of ancient iron have contributed in understanding this heritage to a respectable extent, yet a comprehensive knowledge about the evolution of iron making through time and space in India eludes us. In this work, a comparative study of iron artefacts from two Iron Age/Megalithic‐Early Historic sites of Tamil Nadu, south India, that is, Mangadu (burial site) and Ambal (habitation‐cum‐burial site) is carried out to understand the iron thermal‐processing capabilities. The retrieved artefacts were examined using X‐ray fluorescence (XRF) for elemental composition. The imaging of the artefacts was done using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD), and Optical Microscopy (OM). In addition, phase identification was performed using X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and Energy Dispersive X‐ray Spectroscopy (EDS). High-strength alloys can be efficiently welded utilizing laser beam welding because of their attributes, such as minimized fusion, heat-affected zone extensions, and minor deformation. Computational study of the laser material interaction process assists in analysing numerous process variables and their effect, which is challenging experimentally. This work developed a 3D numerical model for pulsed laser welding of high-carbon alloy steel. A hybrid 3D conical heat source model with a double ellipsoid and a 3D conical heat source model was employed to study laser–material interaction in the finite element modelling of the process. Post-processing of the simulation results for both the heat sources was compared to investigate the suitability of the volumetric heat source depicting experimental data. The analysis was carried out by comparing the models and calculating the dimensions of weld geometry for various process parameters. A suitable heat source for the weld geometry was identified using the isotherms. Commercial software (Comsol Multiphysics 5.6) is used to solve the conduction and heat flux equations using Finite Element Methods. By altering the welding speed at three different peak powers, the weld pool depth and width were calculated. The results were plotted and matched with the experimental data for the two different heat sources. Finally, the heat sources were compared to obtain the laser peak power for full-depth penetration of the weld joint. Background: People with Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) experience oral health inequality due to myriad of risk factors and complex needs. Sensory processing difficulties, maladaptive behaviours and dental anxiety contribute to difficulties in receiving preventive and routine dental treatments. This study aimed to systematically review the evidence on the effectiveness of sensory adaptive dental environments (SADE) for children and young adults (up to the ages 24 years) with IDD to address cooperation and dental anxiety. Methods: This review was reported according to The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines. MEDLINE (Ovid), The Cochrane Library, Embase, Google Scholar, Web of Science and OT Seeker were searched using appropriate terms to identify Randomised Control Trails (RCTs) that matched inclusion criteria. Screening was conducted by two reviewers after de-duplication based on titles and abstracts followed by full text retrieval. Quality of the included studies was assessed using Cochrane Risk of Bias (ROB)-2 for crossover trials and data extracted by two reviewers. The details of the interventions and effectiveness were compared and discussed narratively, and comparable outcomes were included to meta-analyses using R software. Results: A total of 622 articles were identified and five articles met eligibility for inclusion. Three studies used multi-sensory adaptations and one used single sensory adaptation of music. Narrative synthesis showed some evidence of SADE reducing magnitude and duration, although, questionable for reducing the number of maladaptive behaviours. Two studies demonstrated conflicting evidence of the effect of SADE on cooperation. Three studies demonstrated significant positive impact of SADE on psychophysiological outcomes. Despite an overall tendency to favour SADE, no statistically significant difference of maladaptive behaviours was found between SADE and regular dental environment (RDE) (Standardised mean change (SMC) = 0.51; 95% Confidence Interval (CI) -0.20 to 1.22; p = 0.161). SADE was superior to RDE (SMC -0.66; 95% CI -1.01 to -0.30; p = < 0.001) in reducing psychophysiological responses of dental anxiety. Conclusion: Current evidence suggests that adapting visual, tactile, and auditory aspects of the dental environment in a single or multi-sensory approach demonstrates small positive effects on psychophysiological responses and maladaptive behaviours of dental anxiety for people with IDD. Background: Regular growth monitoring can be used to evaluate young children's nutritional and physical health. While adequate evaluation of the scope and quality of nutrition interventions is necessary to increase their effectiveness, there is little research on growth monitoring coverage measurement. The purpose of this study was to investigate socioeconomic disparities in under-5 Rwandan children who participate in growth monitoring and nutrition promotion. Methods: We used data from the 2019–2020 Rwanda Demographic and Health Survey (RDHS), which included 8092under-5 children. Percentage was employed in univariate analysis. To examine the socioeconomic inequalities, concentration indices and Lorenz curves were used in growth monitoring and nutrition promotion among under-5 children. Results: A weighted prevalence of 33.0% (95%CI: 30.6-35.6%) under-5 children growth monitoring and nutrition promotion was estimated. Growth monitoring and nutrition promotion among under-5 children had higher uptake in the most disadvantaged cohort, as the line of equality sags below the diagonal line in Lorenz curve. Overall, there was pro-poor growth monitoring and nutrition promotion among under-5 in Rwanda (Conc. Index = 0.0994; SE = 0.0111). Across the levels of child and mother's characteristics, the results show higher coverage of under-5 growth monitoring and nutrition promotion in the most socioeconomic disadvantaged cohort. Conclusion: The study found a pro-poor disparity in growth monitoring and nutrition promotion among under-5 children in Rwanda. By implication, the most disadvantaged children had a higher uptake of growth monitoring and nutrition promotion. In recent years, groups of cyber criminals/hackers have carried out cyber-attacks using various tactics with the goal of destabilizing web services in a specific context for which they are motivated. Predicting these attacks is a critical task that assists in determining what actions should be taken to mitigate the effects of such attacks and to prevent them in the future. Although there are programs to detect security concerns on the internet, there is currently no system that can anticipate or foretell whether the attacks will be successful. This research aims to develop sustainable strategies to reduce threats, vulnerability, and data manipulation of chatbots, consequently improving cyber security. To achieve this goal, we develop a conversational chatbot, an application that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to communicate, and deploy it on social media sites (e.g., Twitter) for cyber security purposes. Chatbots have the capacity to consume large amounts of information and give an appropriate response in an efficient and timely manner, thus rendering them useful in predicting threats emanating from social media. The research utilizes sentiment analysis strategy by employing chatbots on Twitter (and analyzing Twitter data) for predicting future threats and cyber-attacks. The strategy is based on a daily collection of tweets from two types of users: those who use the platform to voice their opinions on important and relevant subjects, and those who use it to share information on cyber security attacks. The research provides tools and strategies for developing chatbots that can be used for assessing cyber threats on social media through sentiment analysis leading to a global sustainable development of businesses. Future research may utilize and improvise on the tools and strategies suggested in our research to strengthen the knowledge domain of chatbots, cyber security, and social media. Lead is ubiquitously distributed toxic heavy metal present in the environment without any biological function. The issue of lead pollution in soil has attracted widespread attention due to the rapid development of industrialization. The current study was designed to evaluate the effect of nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) on the phytoremediation of lead. Pot experiments were conducted to assess the potential of Tagetus erecta for the removal of lead (Pb) from contaminated soil (only lead) and along with zero valent iron nanoparticle amendments (Pb + nZVI). The nZVI were synthesized by the borohydride reduction method and characterized with the help of a scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and zeta sizer. Plantlets were exposed to 250 and 500 mg/kg Pb concentrations along with nZVI amendments at various dosages (100, 300, and 500 mg/kg) for 3 months. The plant morphological, physiological, and biochemical parameters along with bioconcentration and translocation factors were also determined during the pot experiments. One-way ANOVA and Tukey multiple comparison tests were performed for the determination of statistical analysis. The root length, shoot length, and biomass significantly (P < 0.05) increased by 39%, 34%, and 45%, respectively, in the pots having 500 mg/kg Pb + 500 mg/kg nZVI treatments in comparison to Pb-only treatment (500 mg/kg). Total protein content in plant parts was also significantly inclined, while proline content reduced significantly (P < 0.05) with the addition of nZVI. Similarly, the Pb accumulated in roots and shoots was 44% and 17% higher in nZVI-amended pots (500 mg/kg Pb + 500mg/kg nZVI). The values of a bioconcentration factor greater than one revealed that Tagetes erecta is a suitable hyperaccumulator plant species for removing lead from contaminated soil. The airflow in earth‐air heat exchangers with different types of flow was examined at various inlet velocities. The results show that there is a significant variation in the mass flow rate of air through the holes for both induced and forced flow. The mass flow rate ranges from 0.013 to 0.119 kg s−1 for forced flow and from 0.018 to 0.128 kg s−1 for induced flow at a velocity of 4.1 m s−1. In contrast, the variation in the mass flow rate through the pipes is significant only for forced flow and almost negligible for induced flow. The mass flow rate ranges from 0.029 to 0.054 kg s−1 for forced flow and from 0.043 to 0.045 kg s−1 for induced flow at the same velocity, indicating that induced flow may be a valuable method for optimizing the earth‐air heat exchanger performance. One of the processes that can serve to valorise low-quality biomass and organic waste is hydrothermal carbonization (HTC). It is a thermochemical process that transpires in the presence of water and uses heat to convert wet feedstocks into hydrochar (the solid product of hydrothermal carbonization). In the present experimental study, an improvement consisting of an increased hydrophobic character of HTC-treated biomass is demonstrated through the presentation of enhanced mechanical dewatering at different pressures due to HTC valorisation. As part of this work's scope, flashing-off of low-quality steam is additionally explored, allowing for the recovery of the physical enthalpy of hot hydrochar slurry. The flashing-off vapours, apart from steam, contain condensable hydrocarbons. Accordingly, a membrane system that purifies such effluent and the subsequent recovery of chemical energy from the retentate are taken into account. Simple Summary: In the field of cancer, body fluids such as urine are gaining interest for non-invasive cancer detection and screening. To enable home collection, sample shipment, and sample storage at ambient temperatures, the addition of preservatives is critical. In this study, we evaluated the performance of a recently developed preservative, UAS™, for the preservation of urinary analytes in oncology applications. We demonstrated that UAS™ preserves host cell integrity and cell-free DNA and prevents bacterial overgrowth under conditions encountered with remote collections. Additionally, UAS™ is compatible with commercially available urinary analyte isolation kits. The preservative facilitates urine collection in the comfort and privacy of the patient's home, making cancer screening programs more accessible and lowering the burden on healthcare workers. Liquid biopsy is a revolutionary tool that is gaining momentum in the field of cancer research. As a body fluid, urine can be used in non-invasive diagnostics for various types of cancer. We investigated the performance of UAS™ as a preservative for urinary analytes. Firstly, the need for urine preservation was investigated using urine samples from healthy volunteers. Secondly, the performance of UAS™ was assessed for cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and host cell integrity during storage at room temperature (RT) and after freeze-thaw cycling. Finally, UAS™ was used in a clinical setting on samples from breast and prostate cancer patients. In the absence of a preservative, urinary cfDNA was degraded, and bacterial overgrowth occurred at RT. In urine samples stored in UAS™, no microbial growth was seen, and cfDNA and cellular integrity were maintained for up to 14 days at RT. After freeze-thaw cycling, the preservation of host cell integrity and cfDNA showed significant improvements when using UAS™ compared to unpreserved urine samples. Background Older people are often explicitly or implicitly excluded from research, in particular clinical trials. This means that study findings may not be applicable to them, or that older people may not be offered treatments due to an absence of evidence. Aims The aim of this work was to develop recommendations to guide all research relevant to older people. Methods A diverse stakeholder group identified barriers and solutions to including older people in research. In parallel, a rapid literature review of published papers was undertaken to identify existing papers on the inclusion of older people in research. The findings were synthesised and mapped onto a socio-ecological model. From the synthesis we identified themes that were developed into initial recommendations that were iteratively refined with the stakeholder group. Results A range of individual, interpersonal, organisational, community and policy factors impact on the inclusion of older people in research. A total of 14 recommendations were developed such as removing upper age limits and comorbidity exclusions, involving older people, advocates and health and social care professionals with expertise in ageing in designing the research, and considering flexible or alternative approaches to data collection to maximise opportunities for participation. We also developed four questions that may guide those developing, reviewing and funding research that is inclusive of older people. Background: The United States is becoming increasingly diverse, but few molecular studies have assessed the progression of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) in diverse patient populations. This study examined ccRCC molecular variations in non‐Hispanic White (NHW) and Hispanic patients and their effect on the association of gene expression with high‐grade (Grade 3 or 4) ccRCC and overall mortality. Methods: A total of 156 patients were included in VHL sequencing and/or TempO‐Seq analysis. DESeq2 was used to identify the genes associated with high‐grade ccRCC. Logistic regression analysis was performed to assess whether race and ethnicity was associated with high/moderate impact VHL somatic mutations and the ccA/ccB subtype. Cox regression analysis was performed to assess association of molecular subtype and gene expression with overall mortality. Results: NHWs had moderate or high impact mutations in the VHL gene at a higher frequency than Hispanics (40.2% vs. 27.4%), while Hispanics had a higher frequency of the ccA subtype than NHWs (61.9% vs. 45.8%). ccA was more common in patients with BMI≥35 (65.2%) than in those with BMI < 25 (45.0%). There were 11 differentially expressed genes between high‐ and low‐grade tumors. The Haptoglobin (HP) gene was most significantly overexpressed in high‐ compared to low‐grade ccRCC in all samples (p‐adj = 1.7 × 10−12). When stratified by subtype, the 11 genes were significantly differentially expressed in the ccB subtype, but none of them were significant after adjusting for multiple testing in ccA. Finally, patients with the ccB subtype had a significantly increased risk of overall mortality (HR 4.87; p = 0.01) compared to patients with ccA, and patients with high HP expression and ccB, had a significantly increased risk of mortality compared to those with low HP expression and ccA (HR 6.45, p = 0.04). Featured Application: Optimum parameters of valorization of biomass for fast pyrolysis process. Fast pyrolysis has been a subject of intensive research thanks to its ability to produce high yields of liquid products, known as pyrolysis oil. This is an important renewable intermediate which could be used for the subsequent production of fuels and chemicals. For fossil-based materials, pyrolysis oil can provide circular building blocks. Furthermore, direct use of pyrolysis oil in gas turbines has also been proven feasible. However, a relatively high oxygen content in raw biomass has detrimental effects on the quality of such oil. This work proposes hydrothermal carbonization as a valorization technique, beneficial from the point of view of subsequent fast pyrolysis. Within the scope of this work, the influence of the parameters of hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) on the kinetics of fast pyrolysis of agricultural biomass (miskanthus), as well as the influence of in situ use of a CaO catalyst, is investigated. Kinetics is investigated using a novel type of thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) called Cyclonic TGA, which is able to achieve heating rates similar to a real fast pyrolysis process. The landmark 2021 Resolution on Oral Health by the 74th World Health Assembly has elevated the importance of oral health into the global health policy agenda. This has led to the development and adoption of the World Health Organization (WHO) Global Strategy on Oral Health in 2022. It acknowledged the need to integrate oral health as part of universal health coverage (UHC), which is supported by national clinical leadership for oral health. Although Australia is a signatory WHO member state, it is yet to appoint a Commonwealth Chief Dental Officer to provide national clinical leadership. This commentary provides a background on the current issues on population oral health in Australia, an insight into the Australian oral healthcare system, and explores some of the challenges and learnings related to previous Commonwealth dental programs. This paper highlights why expertise in dental public health is required to steer national oral health policy that is focused on prevention and early intervention. A population oral health approach for UHC should be informed by evidence, prioritise and address oral health inequities, and be co-ordinated by national clinical leadership for oral health. Environmental costs associated with meat production have necessitated researchers and food manufacturers to explore alternative sources of high-quality protein, especially from plant origin. Proteins from peanuts and peanut-by products are high-quality, matching industrial standards and nutritional requirements. This review contributes to recent developments in the production of proteins from peanut and peanut meal. Conventional processing techniques such as hot-pressing kernels, use of solvents in oil removal, and employing harsh acids and alkalis denature the protein and damage its functional properties, limiting its use in food formulations. Controlled hydrolysis (degree of hydrolysis between 1 and 10%) using neutral and alkaline proteases can extract proteins and improve peanut proteins' functional properties, including solubility, emulsification, and foaming activity. Peanut proteins can potentially be incorporated into meat analogues, bread, soups, confectionery, frozen desserts, and cakes. Recently, pretreatment techniques (microwave, ultrasound, high pressure, and atmospheric cold plasma) have been explored to enhance protein extraction and improve protein functionalities. However, most of the literature on physicochemical pretreatment techniques has been limited to the lab scale and has not been analysed at the pilot scale. Peanut-derived peptides also exhibit antioxidant, anti-hypertensive, and anti-thrombotic properties. There exists a potential to incorporate these peptides into high-fat foods to retard oxidation. These peptides can also be consumed as dietary supplements for regulating blood pressure. Further research is required to analyse the sensory attributes and shelf lives of these novel products. Due to improper acquisition settings and other noise artifacts, the image degraded to yield poor mean preservation in brightness. The simplest way to improve the preservation is the implementation of histogram equalization. Because of over-enhancement, it failed to preserve the mean brightness and produce the poor quality of the image. This paper proposes a multi-scale decomposition for brightness preservation using gamma correction. After transformation to hue, saturation and intensity (HSI) channel, the 2D-discrete wavelet transform decomposed the intensity component into low and high-pass coefficients. At the next phase, gamma correction is used by auto-tuning the scale value. The scale is the modified constant value used in the logarithmic function. Further, the scale value is optimized to obtain better visual quality in the image. The optimized value is the weighted distribution of standard deviation-mean of low pass coefficients. Finally, the experimental result is estimated in terms of quality assessment measures used as absolute mean brightness error, the measure of information detail, signal to noise ratio and patch-based contrast quality in the image. Objective: This analysis assessed the putative causal association between genetically predicted percent body fat and areal bone mineral density (aBMD) and, more specifically, the association between genetically predicted metabolically "favorable adiposity" (MFA) and aBMD at clinically relevant bone sites. Methods: Mendelian randomization was used to assess the relationship of MFA and percent body fat with whole‐body, lumbar spine, femoral neck, and forearm aBMD. Sex‐stratified and age‐stratified exploratory analyses were conducted. Results: In all MR analyses, genetically predicted MFA was inversely associated with aBMD for the whole body (β = −0.053, p = 0.0002), lumbar spine (β = −0.075; p = 0.0001), femoral neck (β = −0.045; p = 0.008), and forearm (β = −0.115; p = 0.001). This negative relationship was strongest in older individuals and did not differ by sex. The relationship between genetically predicted percent body fat and aBMD was nonsignificant across all Mendelian randomization analyses. Several loci that were associated at a genome‐wide significance level (p < 5 × 10−8) in opposite directions with body fat and aBMD measures were also identified. Conclusions: This study did not support the hypothesis that MFA protects against low aBMD. Instead, it showed that MFA may result in lower aBMD. Further research is needed to understand how MFA affects aBMD and other components of bone health such as bone turnover, bone architecture, and osteoporotic fractures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Riboflavin (RF) is one kind of vitamin B, which has low bioavailability due to the low water solubility and the high photosensitivity during food processing and storage. The anti-solvent precipitation method was applied to fabricate a zein-sodium alginate (SA) binary complexes delivery system with the loading of RF, which was aimed to enhance the delivery efficiency, stability, and controlled release of RF in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The formation mechanism, physicochemical properties as well as the digestion behaviors were investigated. The incorporation of SA significantly increased the diameter and decreased the surface positive charge of the nanoparticles. The surface morphology of the nanoparticles was characterized using the scanning electron microscope. The FTIR analysis revealed that the electrostatic attraction was the dominant binding force in the formation of the zein-SA binary complexes nanoparticles. In addition, the study on the in vitro release process showed that the zein-SA nanoparticles could delay the release of the RF under the simulated GI tract conditions, which improved their oral bioavailability. In summary, the zein-SA nanoparticle is an effective vehicle for the oral delivery of RF as well as other vitamins and bioactives in the applications of food and nutrition. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Acanthamoeba are amphizoic amoeba majorly responsible for causing Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) and Granulomatous amoebic encephalitis (GAE). Despite its ubiquitous nature, the frequency of infections is not high, probably due to the existence of non-pathogenic isolates. The whole-genome sequencing and an annotated genome assembly can unravel the biological functions and help in identifying probable genes related to pathogenicity. Methods: Illumina and Nanopore sequencing were performed for keratitis, encephalitis, and non-pathogenic environmental isolates. Hybrid assembly was prepared for the AK and GAE isolates, while only the Illumina reads were utilized for a non-pathogenic environmental isolate. Protein coding genes were identified using the GeneMark-ES program and BLASTx module of Diamond used for gene prediction. Additionally, the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes annotation and cluster of orthologous group's annotation using RPS-blast against the CDD database was performed. The subsequent data analysis and validation will help identify probable pathogenic genes. Results: The genome assemblies of 9.67, 8.34, and 8.89 GBs were reported for GAE, AK, and non-pathogenic isolate, respectively. KEGG reported 22,946 in GAE, 24,231 in keratitis, and 9367 genes in the environmental isolate. The COG annotation revealed 3232 in GAE, 3403 in keratitis, and 1314 genes in the non-pathogenic isolate. Conclusion: The present study has attempted to generate de novo hybrid genome assemblies of Acanthamoeba that would help decode the genome of free-living amoeba and will provide genomic data for a better understanding of virulence-related factors. Background: In low- and middle- income countries such as Bangladesh, urban slum dwellers are particualry vulnerable to hypertension due to inadequate facilities for screening and management, as well as inadequate health literacy among them. However, there is scarcity of evidence on hypertension among the urban slum dwellers in Bangladesh. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with hypertension among urban slum dwellers in Bangladesh.Methods: Data were collected as part of a large-scale cross-sectional survey conducted by Building Resources Across Communities (BRAC) between October 2015 and January 2016. The present analysis was performed among 1155 urban slum dwellers aged 35 years or above. A structured questionnaire was adminstered to collect data electronically and blood pressure measurements were taken using standardised procedures. Binary logistic regression with generalized estimating equation modelling was performed to estimate the factors associated with hypertension.Results: The prevalence of hypertension was 28.3% among urban slum dwellers aged 35 years and above. In adjusted analysis, urban slum dwellers aged 45-54 years (AOR: 1.64, 95% CI: 1.17-2.28), 55-64 years (AOR: 2.47, 95% CI: 1.73-3.53) and ≥ 65 years (AOR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.47-3.72), from wealthier households (AOR: 1.94, 95% CI: 1.18-3.20), sleeping < 7 h per day (AOR: 1.87, 95% CI: 1.39-2.51), who were overweight (AOR: 1.53, 95% CI: 1.09-2.14) or obese (AOR: 2.34, 95% CI: 1.71-3.20), and having self-reported diabetes (AOR: 3.08, 95% CI: 1.88-5.04) had an increased risk of hypertension. Moreover, 51.0% of the participants were taking anti-hypertensive medications and 26.4% of them had their hypertension in control.Conclusions: The findings highlight a high burden of hypertension and poor management of it among the slum dwellers in Bangladesh requiring a novel approach to improve care. It is integral to effectively implement the available national non-communicable disease (NCD) control guidelines and redesign the current urban primary health care system to have better coordination. Regular growth monitoring can be used to evaluate the nutritional and physical health of children. Ample evaluation of the reach and quality of nutrition interventions is necessary to increase their effectiveness, but there is little research on improving coverage measurement. The aim of this study was to explore the coverage of growth monitoring, nutrition promotion, and associated factors by Rwandan caregivers of children under the age of five. Data from 2019–2020 Rwanda Demographic and Health Survey with a total of 8092 children under the age of five were used for this study. Prevalence of growth monitoring and nutrition promotion were reported and the factors influencing this were evaluated using multivariable logistic regression model. The prevalence of growth monitoring and nutrition promotion among under-5 children was 33.0% (95%CI: 30.6–35.6%). Older children, caregivers who were native residents, those with a health insurance, in a marital relationship, employed, and residing in rural areas had higher odds to participate in growth monitoring and nutrition promotion compared to their counterparts. Rwanda has a low rate of coverage for growth monitoring and nutrition promotion among children <5 and public health nutrition interventions should prioritize nutritional counseling as well as the availability of growth monitoring and promotion services. Background: There has been limited evaluation of health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) in rectal cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. HRQOL outcomes in the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project R‐04 trial are examined in this article. Methods: Between 2004 and 2010, R‐04 patients were invited to enroll in the HRQOL substudy, with questionnaires administered before randomization, after completion of chemoradiotherapy, and 1‐year after surgery. HRQOL measures included: Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy for colorectal cancer (FACT‐C); Short Form‐36v.2 Vitality scale; a treatment‐specific symptom scale; and the FACT neurotoxicity scale. A 5‐year postsurgery assessment was added to the protocol in 2012. Mixed‐effects models examined neoadjuvant therapy treatment effects in the 1‐year sample and models that explored associations of host factors and treatment impact on 5‐year HRQOL. Results: A total of 1373 patients completed baseline HRQOL and at least one additional assessment. The average age was 58 years (range, 23–85 years), male (68%), and 59% Stage II. There were no statistically significant differences in HRQOL outcomes by treatment arm, but HRQOL worsened from baseline to postneoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, with statistically significant effect sizes changes ranging from 0.6 (Vitality) to 0.9 (FACT‐C Trial Outcome Index). Neurotoxicity was greater in the oxaliplatin‐treated groups. Obese/overweight patients had statistically significantly worse FACT‐C Trial Outcome Index scores than did underweight/normal weight groups. At 5 years, younger patients and those with normal baseline weight had statistically significantly better physical function scores and older patients had better mental health outcomes. Conclusions: HRQOL did not differ across the four R‐04 treatment arms; however, host factors explained significant variation in posttreatment HRQOL. Lay summary: This article reports on the health‐related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes of patients treated with four different chemotherapy regimens combined with radiation in rectal cancer patients before definitive surgical treatment.There were no significant differences in HRQOL by treatment regimen, but all patients experienced decreased vitality (energy) and physical functioning. By 1 year after treatment, most patients had returned to pretreatment vitality and physical functioning, with the exception of increased neurotoxicity.In a subsample of patients assessed at 5 years after surgery, physical function was better in those who at pretreatment were younger, normal weight, and had better performance status. Miniaturization and high performance are the two principal requirements of modern electronics. All commercial applications demand reliable performance at high operational efficiency for prolonged service life. In order to meet all these requirements, the cooling system should be able to handle large heat fluxes packed in compact spaces and take away the heat as soon as possible to avoid overheating of the chip. Phase change heat transfer devices can handle large heat fluxes on account of latent heating. Lately, vapour chambers (VCs) are found to be promising heat spreaders as they are passive two-phase heat transfer devices. They effectively eliminate the hotspots, transferring high heat fluxes with better efficiencies and offer lower thermal resistance compared to the conventional cooling techniques. A detailed review of the latest research and advancements in the field of VCs is presented in this paper, including the effect of different thermo-physical parameters on their performance.
