Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare, fatal, rapidly progressive neurodegenerative disease resulting from an accumulation of misfolded prion proteins (PrP). CJD affects 1–2 new individuals per million each year, and the sporadic type accounts for 90% of those cases. Though the median age at onset and disease duration vary depending on the subtype of sporadic CJD (sCJD), the disease typically affects middle-aged to elderly individuals with a median survival of 4–6 months. sCJD in younger individuals is extremely rare. Here, we present a 21-year-old female who died with a sporadic prion disease. She presented with psychiatric symptoms followed by a rapidly progressive neurocognitive and motor decline. EEG was negative for periodic sharp wave complexes; however, brain MRI was suggestive of prion disease. The cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) real-time quaking-induced conversion (RT-QuIC) assay was indeterminate. Neuropathologic examination at autopsy revealed severe neuronal loss and gliosis with secondary white matter degeneration but minimal spongiform changes and PrP deposits in the cerebellum and neocortex by immunohistochemistry. Absence of pathogenic mutations and methionine/valine heterozygosity at codon 129 of the prion protein gene (PRNP), atypical type 1 protease-resistant PrP that lacks or shows underrepresentation of the diglycosylated PrP isoform by western blot analysis, and no acquired prion disease risk factors resulted in a final diagnosis of atypical sCJD. Very young onset sCJD often has atypical clinical presentations and disease progression, neuropathological examination results, and/or laboratory test results that may confound diagnosis. It is critical to perform thorough, comprehensive evaluations to make an accurate diagnosis, which includes autopsy confirmation with histology, prion protein typing and prion gene sequencing. Objectives: Potential adverse effects and pH-related effectiveness of bleaching agents have raised some concerns. The aim of this study was to compare three bleaching agents containing hydrogen peroxide (HP) and carbamide peroxide (CP) in terms of whitening effectiveness, pH variation, and changes in enamel surface roughness. Methods: After controlled staining with a black tea solution, 42 human enamel specimens underwent bleaching treatment using the following agents: HP 40%; HP 35%; CP 16%. Color changes were evaluated according to the CIEDE2000 system. Gel pH was measured before and after each application. Surface roughness (Sa) was assessed through optical 3D profilometry before and after bleaching treatment. Results: The whitening effectiveness was similar for HP 40% and HP 35% while CP 16% had significantly lower results. HP 40% showed a remarkable pH acidification (−0.41), while HP 35% and CP 16% showed a mild increase in pH values (+0.26 and +0.03, respectively), and the differences between HP 40% and HP 35% and between HP 35% and CP 16% were statistically significant. Sa slightly decreased in all groups after bleaching, with no significant differences among them and a significant difference in HP 40% before and after treatment. Conclusions: Similar bleaching results were achieved regardless of pH and HP concentration for HP-based agents, while a lower bleaching effect was observed for the less concentrated CP-based agent, as anticipated. Higher HP and greater tendency to pH instability induced more pronounced modifications of surface roughness. This in vitro study suggests that bleaching gels with neutral and stable pH ensure good bleaching effectiveness and are less likely to cause enamel surface changes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Hyperspectral imagery is a promising tool for bathymetric retrieval because that might be more robust than traditional imagery. However, in fluvial sciences, this approach has only been applied to short reaches for which sparse bathymetric information is available and studies extrapolating such models to longer reaches are lacking. In this paper, we use linear regression and random forest (RF) regression to derive bathymetric estimates from hyperspectral data acquired under two different flow conditions: an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) acquisition at 27 m3.s−1 (base flow) and an airplane acquisition at 127 m3.s−1 (mean flow) for reaches of 0.35 km and 20 km, respectively. Using a 2D bathymetric model based on a green LiDAR acquisition, we generate calibration and validation data for the 20 km reach and the two flow conditions. First, we show that the airplane dataset is able to retrieve base flow bathymetry with a similar accuracy to the UAV acquisition (5–10 cm) despite having been acquired at a higher discharge. Then, we show that we can extrapolate bathymetric models calibrated on a smaller reach to the 20 km study reach with a loss in accuracy compared to an RF model calibrated on the study reach (20–30 cm vs. 5–10 cm). By analysing the errors from our models, we show that the accuracy of the extrapolated models dropped due to an underprediction of deep pool areas and changes in the optical properties of the water column and substratum across the study reach, with some spectral bands performing more poorly. The better performance of the random forest calibrated on the study reach led us to suggest using multi-band machine learning models when attempting bathymetric predictions over long river corridors, and highlights the need to cover the range of environmental conditions in the target reach when acquiring field data. Introduction: Cardiovascular pathologies represent the first cause of death in uremic patients and are among the leading causes of mortality in patients with hereditary angioedema due to C1-inhibitor deficiency (HAE-C1INH). Before 2020, the most common treatment for long-term prophylaxis in HAE-C1INH patients in Italy was attenuated androgen, which may increase cardiovascular risk by multiple mechanisms. Case description: We present a case report of a 56-year-old patient with HAEC1INH type I affected by IgA nephropathy with severe kidney impairment. The patient experienced a first kidney transplant and, after late rejection, underwent a second kidney transplant. Further comorbidities included obesity, hypertensive cardiomyopathy, HCV liver disease, and dyslipidemia. His prophylactic therapy to prevent angioedema attacks had consisted of attenuated androgens for about 40 years. Since 2020, new modern targeted therapy for LTP, particularly lanadelumab, has shown promising results. The majority of patients with attenuated androgens have been successfully switched to lanadelumab, including our patient. Since introducing lanadelumab (300 mg subcutaneously every two weeks; after a six-month attack-free period, the dosing interval of lanadelumab was extended to four weeks), the patient has not experienced any acute HAE attack and did not report any adverse events. Moreover, we observed decreased total cholesterol, C-LDL, and body mass index, reducing the Matsushita et al. score for ten years of cardiovascular risk from 13.2% to 9.3%. Conclusion: lanadelumab is effective and safe in preventing hereditary angioedema attacks, as well as in reducing cardiovascular risk in an immunosuppressed patient with significant comorbidities. Recurrent pericarditis, an inflammatory syndrome with a pathogenesis not fully elucidated, often presents diagnostic challenges. This study aims to assess the correlation of D-Dimer (D-D) and procalcitonin (PCT) levels with clinical, laboratory and imaging features in recurrent idiopathic pericarditis. We analyzed 412 patients with idiopathic recurrent pericarditis from 2019 to 2023 in our referral center. D-D and PCT values were obtained from emergency room in other Italian facilities. Among the cohort, PCT levels were assessed in 50 of 412 patients (12.1%), with only 4 showing marginal elevation. D-D levels were measured in 48 of 412 patients (11.6%), with 33 of them exhibiting elevated values. None of these patients had venous thromboembolism, and elevated D-D levels were significantly associated with pleural effusion, fever, higher CRP, increased white blood cell counts, higher neutrophil counts, reduced relative lymphocyte counts. Multivariate analysis revealed fever as the sole correlate of elevated D-D. PCT elevation was infrequent and unrelated to any variables. In idiopathic recurrent pericarditis unrelated to specific conditions, we observed a close association between elevated D-D levels and non-specific inflammation markers, including fever, increased CRP, and neutrophil leukocytosis. Background: Current guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of pericarditis refer to the general adult population. Few and fragmentary data regarding recurrent pericarditis in older adults exist. Objective of the Study: Given the absence of specific data in scientific literature, we hypothesized that there might be clinical, laboratory and outcome differences between young adults and older adults affected by idiopathic recurrent pericarditis. Materials and Methods: We performed an international multicentric retrospective cohort study analyzing data from patients affected by recurrent pericarditis (idiopathic or post‐cardiac injury) and referring to tertiary referral centers. Clinical, laboratory, and outcome data were compared between patients younger than 65 years (controls) and patients aged 65 or older. Results: One hundred and thirty‐three older adults and 142 young adult controls were enrolled. Comorbidities, including chronic kidney diseases, atrial fibrillation, and diabetes, were more present in older adults. The presenting symptom was dyspnea in 54.1% of the older adults versus 10.6% in controls (p < 0.001); pain in 32.3% of the older adults versus 80.3% of the controls (p < 0.001). Fever higher than 38°C was present in 33.8% versus 53.5% (p = 0.001). Pleural effusion was more prevalent in the older adults (55.6% vs 34.5%, p < 0.001), as well as severe pericardial effusion (>20 mm) (24.1% vs 12.7%, p = 0.016) and pericardiocentesis (16.5% vs 8.5%, p = 0.042). Blood leukocyte counts were significantly lower in the older adults (mean + SE: 10,227 + 289/mm3 vs 11,208 + 285/mm3, p = 0.016). Concerning therapies, NSAIDS were used in 63.9% of the older adults versus 80.3% in the younger (p = 0.003), colchicine in 76.7% versus 87.3% (p = 0.023), corticosteroids in 49.6% versus 26.8% (p < 0.001), and anakinra in 14.3% versus 23.9% (p = 0.044). Conclusions: Older adults affected by recurrent pericarditis show a different clinical pattern, with more frequent dyspnea, pleural effusion, severe pericardial effusion, and lower fever and lower leukocyte count, making the diagnosis sometimes challenging. They received significantly less NSAIDs and colchicine, likely due to comorbidities; they were also treated less commonly with anti‐IL1 agents, and more frequently with corticosteroids. Introduction: Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are psychosocial factors acknowledged as significant contributors to health consequences later in adolescence, including psychological maladjustment. The research suggests that, at a transdiagnostic and transtheoretical level, working on restoring epistemic trust (ET), mentalized affectivity (MA), and reflective functioning (RF) in adolescents with ACEs assumes a central role in the therapeutic process. However, there are still few studies that attempted to investigate the specific role of these sociocognitive factors in the detrimental positive association between levels of experienced ACEs during childhood and psychological maladjustment in nonclinical adolescents. Methods: A community sample of 306 Italian cisgender adolescents (61.4% assigned females at birth; age range 13–19 years old; Mage = 16.1, SD = 1.64) self‐reported ACEs (Childhood Trauma Questionnaire‐Short Form), psychological maladjustment (Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire), ET (Epistemic Trust, Mistrust and Credulity Questionnaire), MA (Brief‐Mentalized Affectivity Scale for Adolescence), and RF (Reflective Functioning Questionnaire). A multiple mediation regression analysis has been performed to explore the association between ACEs and psychological maladjustment through the interaction with socio‐cognitive factors. Results: ACEs are positive predictors of psychological maladjustment later in adolescence. Regardless of gender differences, epistemic mistrust and credulity, processing and expressing emotions, and uncertainty about mental states mediated this association, while epistemic trust, identifying emotions, and certainty about mental states did not configure as significant mediators. Conclusion: Findings suggest that ET disruptions and deficits in RF are risk factors, while MA is a protective factor within the link between ACEs and psychological maladjustment in adolescence. Background/Objectives: Anemia during acute inflammation is not well described in the literature. We aimed to study whether patients develop a transient hemoglobin decrease during an acute attack of recurrent pericarditis. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients with recurrent pericarditis. The primary endpoint was the difference in hemoglobin levels during an acute attack and in the following remission. As secondary endpoints, we correlated this variation with laboratory and clinical features; we also evaluated the available baseline hemoglobin values. Results: Sixty-two patients, including thirty females (48.4%), with a median age of 39 years, were observed during an acute attack and remission. The attack indexed was the first in 21 patients and the second or the third in 41, with pre-attack hemoglobin levels available for the latter group. Median hemoglobin levels (IQR) were 13.8 (12.8–15.1) g/dL at baseline, 12.0 (11.2–13.4) during attacks and 13.6 (13.1–14.0) during remission (p < 0.001). The median hemoglobin reduction between an acute attack and remission was 1.4 g/dL. Their mean corpuscular volume remained in the normal range. Hb reduction significantly correlated with C-reactive protein (CRP) elevation, neutrophilia and the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio, but not serosal involvement. Only CRP elevation remained associated with the variation of Hb in a multivariate analysis (p = 0.007). Conclusions: This study is a proof of concept: hemoglobin levels may decline rapidly during acute inflammation in correlation with CRP elevation, with transient normocytic anemia, followed by a rapid rebound. Objective: This longitudinal study involved youths in residential care due to previous adverse experiences and their educators, aiming to investigate the role of youths and educators' attachment, educators' psychopathology, and the quality of youth–educator relationship on change scores of youths' symptoms and youth–educator relationship security over 6 months. Method: Participants were 36 institutionalized youths (Mage = 16.50 ± 2.13) and their 25 main educators (Mage = 38.48 ± 5.75), assessed at baseline (T1) and 6 months later (T2). Youths were assessed in total, internalizing and externalizing problems via a multi‐informant approach, and educators in psychopathology levels. Attachment representations of youths and educators were assessed through validated attachment interviews (Friends and Family Interview and Adult Attachment Interview), and both separately rated the youth–educator relationship. Results: (1) Most cases remain stable over 6 months. (2) Educator narrative coherence and the quality of youth–educator relationship at baseline were correlated but not predictive of change in youths' symptoms. (3) Youths' higher attachment disorganization at baseline was the unique predictor of 14% variance of positive change in the youth–educator relationship security perceived by the youth. (4) Youth attachment avoidance uniquely predicted 37% of positive change variance in the youth–educator relationship security perceived by educators. Background: This systematic review investigated the prevalence of orofacial pain in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia. Materials and methods: The search was conducted in five databases (Medline (Ovid), Embase (Ovid), CINAHL, Scopus and LILACS), in three grey literature sources and in included articles' reference lists. Three independent reviewers performed study selection, quality appraisal and data extraction. The risk of bias was assessed with the National Institutes of Health tool. Prevalence was calculated using the random‐effects model. Subgroup analysis and meta‐regression were used to explore the heterogeneity of results. Results: The database and grey literature search led to 12 246 results, from which nine studies were included; a further four were selected through citation searching. The total sample comprised 6115 patients with dementia and 84 with MCI. All studies had high risk of bias. The overall estimated pooled prevalence of orofacial pain among dementia participants was 19.0% (95% CI, 11.0%‐27.0%; I2, 97.1%, P <.001). Only one study included MCI participants, among which the prevalence of orofacial pain was 20.5%. Subgroup analysis demonstrated that the different sources of diagnosis might explain the heterogeneity. A higher prevalence of orofacial pain was observed in dementia participants aged over 80 years or living in nursing homes. Meta‐regression analysis showed a nonlinear relationship between age and the prevalence of orofacial pain. Conclusions: The pooled data from the primary studies revealed that 2 out of 10 patients with dementia have orofacial pain. Sediment connectivity at the catchment scale includes the processes linking sediment sources, sinks and the river outlet. Soil erosion models usually estimate yields without considering riverine processes or human infrastructure that may affect sediment connectivity. Quantifying these processes at a large scale is a determinant of understanding sediment transfers from continental lands to marine ecosystems. This study tries to fill this gap by coupling the soil erosion model WaTEM/SEDEM (WS) with the riverine connectivity tool CASCADE to quantify sediment fluxes in the Rhône watershed. The coupling returned a good fit, with deviations of −51.7%. WS alone predicts the exported fluxes better with a deviation of −34.9%. Nevertheless, this paper shows the importance of considering connectivity and transport capacity to develop a more realistic representation of fine sediment dynamics at a large scale. However, connectivity tools depend on the quality of the models (soil erosion and hydrology) and the geomorphological data on which they depend, which is a limiting factor in large‐scale studies. The present investigation explores the spatial distribution of Cooper pair density in graph-shaped arrays of Josephson junctions using a Ginzburg–Landau approach. We specifically investigate double-comb structures and compare their properties with linear arrays as reference systems. Our findings reveal that the peculiar connectivity of the double-comb structure leads to spatial gradients in the order parameter, which can be readily detected through measurements of Josephson critical currents. We present experimental results which indicate the specific dependence of the order parameter on the branches of the graphs and are evidence of the theoretical predictions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study, conducted by searching keywords such as "maternal lupus", "neonatal lupus", and "congenital heart block" in databases including PubMed and Scopus, provides a detailed narrative review on fetal and neonatal lupus. Autoantibodies like anti-Ro/SSA and anti-La/SSB may cross the placenta and cause complications in neonates, such as congenital heart block (CHB). Management options involve hydroxychloroquine, which is able to counteract some of the adverse events, although the drug needs to be used carefully because of its impact on the QTc interval. Advanced pacing strategies for neonates with CHB, especially in severe forms like hydrops, are also assessed. This review emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary care by rheumatologists, obstetricians, and pediatricians in order to achieve the best maternal and neonatal health in lupus pregnancies. Settled in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the present short-term longitudinal study aims to investigate the relation between emotion dysregulation, mentalizing (both certainty and uncertainty about mental states), and psychological symptoms in a sample of 83 emerging adults (Mage = 22.18 years, SD = 4.36) over a continuous period started with COVID-19 spreads. Results display significant positive associations between psychological symptoms and both emotion dysregulation and uncertainty about mental states, while an inverse association with certainty about mental states was found. A moderation model was also performed, showing a significant negative association between emotion dysregulation and psychological symptoms at low levels of uncertainty about mental states. Conversely, a marginally significant positive association occurs at high levels of uncertainty about mental states. In other words, the presence of individual impairments in perceiving one's own/others mind may increase the negative consequences of emotion dysregulation on reported psychological symptoms. To sum up, our findings highlight the importance of considering mentalizing as a possible key factor for the promotion of emerging adults' mental health also in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Network centrality is vital for employees to attain superior performance or desired outcomes and yet we still know little of what makes employees develop central positions. A major challenge is that employees feel discomfort forming networks for opportunistic purposes that benefit them directly. This challenge can be overcome once we focus on the requirements raised by jobs. This paper posits that employees will be motivated to form networks in order to acquire the information capacity needed to satisfy the information requirements raised by the characteristics of their jobs. The study explores how the five enriching job characteristics influence the central position an employee occupies in the organizational network. Interestingly, not all job characteristics benefit networks. Evidence shows that task autonomy, task variety and task significance exercise a positive effect on network centrality but task identity and feedback from the job exercise a negative effect. Network centrality then mediates the relationship between job characteristics and performance. While dispositional determinants explain only between 3% and 5% of variance in network centrality, the model presented explains up to 32% of variance, thereby offering a solid answer to the core question of what determines network centrality. Research on the subjective experience of transitioning to adulthood among young people aging out of foster care is scarce. Accordingly, this study investigated 26 Italian care leavers' self and personal history perceptions. Thematic analysis was conducted using in-depth interview data. Two major themes emerged—personal strengths that may lead to strong personal and relational adjustment, and difficulties related to a critical personal and relational functioning—suggesting that the family fostering experience may lead to different perceptions of self, others, and one's own history that influence the development of care leavers' identity while transitioning to adulthood, with noteworthy implications for practice. Family influence is a crucial factor in the onset and maintenance of eating disorders. Nonsuicidal self‐injury (NSSI) and restrictive eating disorders (REDs) co‐occur in a significant percentage of subjects but family functioning of these families remains underexplored. This study examines the family functioning perceptions of 80 families with adolescents experiencing RED, comparing those with and without NSSI, alongside a control group, utilising the FACES‐IV assessment. The study also aims to compare the triadic (adolescent–mother–father) perception of family functioning in the three groups. The results reveal distinct family dynamics in adolescents with both RED and NSSI, marked by problematic functioning perceptions from all family members and low parental agreement. A further understanding of the family functioning of adolescents with RED with NSSI can help clinicians in defining the treatment setting. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Recently, deep learning has been increasingly applied to global mapping of land‐use and land‐cover classes. However, very few studies have addressed the problem of separating lakes from rivers, and to our knowledge, none have addressed the issue of mapping fluvial sediment bars. We present the first global scale inventory of fluvial gravel bars. Our workflow is based on a state‐of‐the‐art fully convolutional neural network which is applied to Sentinel‐2 imagery at a resolution of 10 m. We use Google Earth Engine to access these data for a study site that covers 89% of the Earth's surface. We count 8.9 million gravel bars with an estimated area of 41 000 km2. Crucially, the workflow we present can be executed within a month of highly automated processing and thus allows for global scale, monthly, monitoring of gravel bars and associated rivers. Summary: Organizational members face a motivational dilemma in influencing the social relationships of others: The organization benefits from high connectedness among employees, but personal advantages accrue to those who occupy brokerage positions between disconnected others. In this study, we draw on the organizational paradox perspective to argue that the reconciliation of these contrasting objectives lies in recognizing one's agency to facilitate connectedness (closing) within a social structure and the search for new connections (opening) as mutually supportive. Across two field studies, we examine how individuals' advantageous position in an organizational network emerges from the interplay between a tertius iungens orientation to join others in collaboration and network building to open new brokering opportunities. In Study 1, analyses of a sample of two‐wave, cross‐lagged panel data show that a tertius iungens orientation contributes to the number of outgoing ties to other actors via network building. Study 2 uses a network survey to add that a tertius iungens orientation is positively associated with incoming ties from others and network brokerage, and again, these relationships are mediated by network building. Overall, our results indicate that by increasing connectedness in their organizational social network, individuals simultaneously activate opening behaviors that facilitate the expansion of their network, thereby revitalizing their structurally advantageous position. The difficulties of measuring bedload transport in gravel-bed rivers have given rise to the morphological method wherein sediment transport can be inferred from changes in riverbed elevation and estimates of the distance traveled by sediment: its path length. Because current methods for estimating path length are time- and labor-intensive, we present a method to estimate a characteristic path length from repeat digital elevation models (DEMs of difference, i.e., DoDs). We propose an automated method to extract the spacing between erosional and depositional sites on the DoD by the application of variational mode decomposition (VMD), a signal processing method, to quantify the spacing as a proxy for path length. We developed this method using flume experiments where bed topography and sediment flux were measured and then applied it to published field data with physical path length measured from tracer measurements. Our sediment transport estimates were not significantly different than the measured sediment flux at lower discharges in the lab. However, we observed an underestimation of sediment flux at the higher discharges in the flume study. We interpret this as a limit of the method in confined settings, where sediment transport becomes decoupled from morphological changes. We also explore how the time between survey acquisitions, the morphological active width relative to the channel width, and DoD thresholding techniques affect the proposed method and the potential issues they pose for the morphological method in general. Background: While substantial research focuses on the psychological characteristics of adolescents with Anorexia Nervosa (AN), little is known about the psychopathological profiles of their parents, especially of the fathers. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the psychopathological profiles of AN adolescents and their parents compared with a control group. Methods: This observational case-control study involved 94 families of adolescents aged 12 to 17: 47 families diagnosed with AN were matched with 47 control families. The sample mean is 15.9 with a standard deviation of 2.9 for BMI across the AN group. Inclusion criteria included adolescents aged 12 to 17 with a diagnosis of AN, and both parents available for the study. Exclusion criteria included AN secondary to medical conditions, severe psychotic disorders, intellectual disabilities, or insufficient understanding of the Italian language. The Symptom Checklist 90–Revised (SCL-90-R) assessing psychopathological symptoms in adolescents and their parents was administered. Statistical analyses compared SCL-90-R scores between AN and control groups and assessed inter-variability within the AN family. Results: Adolescents with AN and their parents displayed significantly higher SCL-90-R scores than controls across multiple dimensions. Specifically, mothers of AN adolescents exhibited higher scores on depression and psychoticism scales, while fathers exhibited higher psychoticism, total positive symptoms, and positive symptom distress. Notably, AN family showed reduced inter-individual variability in psychopathological profiles compared to controls, both within dyads (adolescent-mother, adolescent-father) and the entire family. Conclusion: This study highlights distinct psychopathological profiles in AN family and suggests potential factors of illness maintenance related to parental psychopathology. The findings emphasize the importance of involving the entire family, including fathers, in the therapeutic process for adolescents with AN. Machine learning algorithms applied on the publicly available Sentinel 2 images (S2) are opening the opportunity to automatically classify and monitor fluvial geomorphic feature (such as sediment bars or water channels) dynamics across scales. However, there are few analyses on the relative importance of S2 spatial versus temporal resolution in the context of geomorphic research. In a dynamic, braided reach of the Sesia River (Northern Italy), we thus analyzed how the inherent uncertainty associated with S2's spatial resolution (10 m pixel size) can impact the significance of the active channel (a combination of sediment and water) delineation, and how the S2's weekly temporal resolution can influence the interpretation of its evolutionary trajectory. A comparison with manually classified images at higher spatial resolutions (Planet: 3 m and orthophoto: 0.3 m) shows that the automatically classified water is ∼20% underestimated whereas sediments are ∼30% overestimated. These classification errors are smaller than the geomorphic changes detected in the 5 years analyzed, so the derived active channel trajectory can be considered robust. The comparison across resolutions also highlights that the yearly Planet‐ and S2‐derived active channel trajectory are analogous and they are both more effective in capturing the river geomorphic response after major flood events than the trajectory derived from sequential multiannual orthophotos. More analyses of this type, across different types of river could give insights on the transferability of the spatial uncertainty boundaries found as well as on the spatial and temporal resolution trade‐off needed for supporting different geomorphic analyses. The use of microwave-assisted acid hydrolysis (MAAH) for the co-production of furfural, furfuryl alcohol, and formic acid from several lignocellulosic-based waste materials was investigated. The MAAH experiments were carried out in a microwave system based on the single reaction chamber (SRC) technology. Experimental conditions were selected using grass as a model of lignocellulosic waste, by evaluating the feedstock amount (10 to 700 mg), temperature (120 to 240 °C), time (1 to 40 min), and H2SO4 concentration (10 mL solution, 1 to 9%). One-pot conversion of grass, sugarcane straw, rice husk and wood waste into furfural (37–42%), furfuryl alcohol (10–26%), formic acid (10–15%), and glucose (0.6–8.1 %) was achieved even without a specific step for lignin removal. Higher biomass amount (0.5 L load, grass as model) was performed using a microwave SRC reactor. The Himalayan region is a hotspot in terms of expected future hydrological and geomorphological variations induced by climate change on proglacial areas and the related implications for human societies established along the downstream rivers. Due to the remoteness of the proglacial zones in the Himalayas and the associated logistical problems in carrying out traditional field and UAV-based morphological monitoring activities, remote sensing here plays a crucial role to monitor past and current fluvial dynamics, which could be used to anticipate future changes; however, there has been, so far, limited research on morphological changes in Himalayan proglacial rivers. To address this gap, a morphological classification model was designed to classify recent changes in Himalayan proglacial rivers using the Google Earth Engine platform. The model is the first of its kind developed for the Himalayan region and uses multispectral S-2 satellite data to delineate submerged water channels, vegetated surfaces, and emerged, unvegetated sediment bars, and then to track their variations over time. The study focused on three training sites: Langtang-Khola (Nepal), Saltoro (Pakistan), and Nubra (Jammu and Kashmir) rivers, and one testing site, the Ganga-Bhagirathi River (India). A total of 900 polygons were used as training samples for the random forest classifier, which were further divided into 70% calibration and 30% validation datasets for the training sites, and a separate validation dataset was acquired from the testing site to assess the model performance. The model achieved high accuracy, with an average overall accuracy of 96% and a kappa index of 0.94, indicating the reliability of the S2 data for modeling proglacial geomorphic features in the Himalayan region. Therefore, this study provides a reliable tool to detect past and current morphological changes occurring in the Himalayan proglacial rivers, which will be of great value for both research and river management purposes. The concept of mentalized affectivity (MA) encompasses the dimensions of identifying, processing, and expressing emotions and describes the process of making sense of and reevaluating one's affects in light of autobiographical memory. This construct was developed within the theoretical framework of mentalization and, due to its interpersonal nature, added further complexity to the emotion regulation construct. This research aimed to examine the factor structure and psychometric properties of the Brief-Mentalized Affectivity Scale for adolescents (B-MAS-A) on an Italian sample of young people (aged 13-19 years). Data were collected using non-probabilistic sampling and an online survey. Participants were asked to complete a large battery of instruments, including the B-MAS-A, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Reflective Functioning Questionnaire, the Epistemic Trust, Mistrust, and Credulity Questionnaire, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire, and the General Self-Efficacy Scale. In study 1, factor analyses carried out on a total sample of 566 adolescents identified 3 distinct dimensions of the same components of MA found in the adult population: i) identifying; ii) processing; iii) expressing emotions. The subscales showed excellent internal consistency. Study 2 (involving a subsample of 288 participants) demonstrated good levels of construct and criterion validity. These results confirm that the B-MAS-A represents a valid and robust instrument for assessing the complex and multifaceted characteristics of MA in adolescents. The B-MAS-A can make a significant contribution to clinical practice and research and encourage systematic studies on MA in psychotherapy, taking into account the developmental stage of adolescence. The study aimed to investigate relational outcomes of Italian emancipated foster youth across open-ended reflections about their perceptions of their relationships with the biological and foster family, with partner and peers. A total of 26 Italian emancipated foster youth (19–25 years old) recruited by social services completed a single in-depth interview. A qualitative thematic analysis was selected for this study. The results revealed two major themes of foster care experience that emerged often simultaneously from the participants’ narration: (1) Positive Relational Outcomes including “Feeling supported,” “Sense of belonging,” “Good memories,” “Relationship with family of choice,” and “Staying in touch”; and (2) Negative Relational Outcomes referring “Devaluation,” “Refuse,” “Bad memories,” and “Isolation.” Foster care experience leads to complex relational perceptions in emerging adulthood according to different relational outcomes and ways of processing foster care experience. Professionals could work on relational outcomes and memories, especially during a critical transition like emerging adulthood, to support youth in making sense of their past experiences. It has been suggested that the inferior longitudinal fasciculus (ILF) may play an important role in several aspects of language processing such as visual object recognition, visual memory, lexical retrieval, reading, and specifically, in naming visual stimuli. In particular, the ILF appears to convey visual information from the occipital lobe to the anterior temporal lobe (ATL). However, direct evidence proving the essential role of the ILF in language and semantics remains limited and controversial. The first aim of this study was to prove that patients with a brain glioma damaging the left ILF would be selectively impaired in picture naming of objects; the second aim was to prove that patients with glioma infiltrating the ATL would not be impaired due to functional reorganization of the lexical retrieval network elicited by the tumor. We evaluated 48 right‐handed patients with neuropsychological testing and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) before and after surgery for resection of a glioma infiltrating aspects of the left temporal, occipital, and/or parietal lobes; diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) was acquired preoperatively in all patients. Damage to the ILF, inferior frontal occipital fasciculus (IFOF), uncinate fasciculus (UF), arcuate fasciculus (AF), and associated cortical regions was assessed by means of preoperative tractography and pre‐/pos‐toperative MRI volumetry. The association of fascicles damage with patients' performance in picture naming and three additional cognitive tasks, namely, verbal fluency (two verbal non‐visual tasks) and the Trail Making Test (a visual attentional task), was evaluated. Nine patients were impaired in the naming test before surgery. ILF damage was demonstrated with tractography in six (67%) of these patients. The odds of having an ILF damage was 6.35 (95% CI: 1.27–34.92) times higher among patients with naming deficit than among those without it. The ILF was the only fascicle to be significantly associated with naming deficit when all the fascicles were considered together, achieving an adjusted odds ratio of 15.73 (95% CI: 2.30–178.16, p =.010). Tumor infiltration of temporal and occipital cortices did not contribute to increase the odd of having a naming deficit. ILF damage was found to be selectively associated with picture naming deficit and not with lexical retrieval assessed by means of verbal fluency. Early after surgery, 29 patients were impaired in naming objects. The association of naming deficit with percentage of ILF resection (assessed by 3D‐MRI) was confirmed (beta = −56.78 ± 20.34, p =.008) through a robust multiple linear regression model; no significant association was found with damage of IFOF, UF or AF. Crucially, postoperative neuropsychological evaluation showed that naming scores of patients with tumor infiltration of the anterior temporal cortex were not significantly associated with the percentage of ILF damage (rho =.180, p >.999), while such association was significant in patients without ATL infiltration (rho = −.556, p =.004). The ILF is selectively involved in picture naming of objects; however, the naming deficits are less severe in patients with glioma infiltration of the ATL probably due to release of an alternative route that may involve the posterior segment of the AF. The left ILF, connecting the extrastriatal visual cortex to the anterior region of the temporal lobe, is crucial for lexical retrieval on visual stimulus, such as in picture naming. Sediment connectivity plays a fundamental role in sustaining ecosystem goods and services in fluvial systems, including hydropower production. Dams alter the natural processes of sediment transport by trapping sediment and reshaping downstream hydrology and geomorphology. Due to these processes' interconnected nature, dams' impacts extend in time and space beyond the dam site to the entire river system. System‐scale approaches to reduce dam impacts commonly only consider dam siting, overlooking the potential of sediment management strategies integrated into the dam operations to offer more flexible solutions for mitigation. Herein, we contribute a sediment routing model (D‐CASCADE) to assess the impacts of reservoirs and their management strategies on river sediment connectivity. D‐CASCADE is applied to the 3S river system, a tributary of the Mekong River, a hotspot of potential dams in the Lower Mekong. We analyze three dam development portfolios. The effect of reservoir management is examined by assessing daily sediment delivery with specific dam release strategies. Model results predict sediment yield to the Mekong to reduce by 31%–60%. Finally, we explore trade‐offs between hydropower generation and sediment connectivity across cascades of multiple reservoirs. Results show that repeated flushing operations during the early wet season could significantly increase sediment delivery with minimal (max 6%) hydropower losses. While poor trade‐offs between sediment and hydropower have been locked‐in in the Mekong, our results highlight the potential of including sediment connectivity models in multi‐objective decision‐making frameworks to devise integrated water and sediment management strategies that mitigate connectivity disruptions while minimizing losses in other sectors. Over the past twenty years research interest has been focused on deepening the role of parental mentalizing. Nevertheless, few studies have specifically addressed the role played by fathers' mentalizing. This systematic review aims to bridge this gap by offering an exploration of paternal mentalizing within attachment theory considering three different operationalizations: Reflective Functioning, Parental Insightfulness and Mind-Mindedness. Starting from this, the main goals of this systematic review are: (1) to show the effect of paternal mentalizing on child's outcomes or paternal role within the family system, (2) to increase research exchange between different theoretical frameworks, enhancing the knowledge of the mentalization construct, (3) to explore under-researched areas and implications for research and clinical practice. PsycInfo, PsycArticle, Web Of Science, Scopus, Medline, PubMed and EMBASE were systematically searched for articles published until February 7, 2021. In total, 6311 studies were considered for the systematic review; of these, thirty-six met the inclusion criteria. The included studies were subsequently split on the basis of the specific mentalizing operationalization. Overall, the data showed significant associations between paternal mentalizing and both fathers' parenting features and variables related to the paternal broader functioning within the family context. This systematic review also confirms the role of fathers' mentalizing processes in relation to paternal features and child's outcomes. In conclusion, further studies aimed at examining paternal mentalizing specific influences, exploring the causal pathways related to paternal mentalizing and investigating the relationship between different mentalizing dimensions and their diverse effects are recommended. Aims: To identify peripheral blood cellular correlates of active pericarditis and to verify whether peripheral blood neutrophils, lymphocytes and the neutrophil to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are associated with disease phenotype or prognosis. Methods: Observational prospective study on a cohort of 63 patients with idiopathic pericarditis followed for 12 months after each pericarditis recurrence. Two distinct analyses were performed: the "index attack" analysis focused on the first pericarditis episode in each patient, while the "all attacks" analysis included all episodes occurring during the study. Results: Absolute and relative neutrophilia and lymphopenia, together with high NLR, were observed during active pericarditis, as compared with disease remission, at both analyses. Neutrophils showed a positive correlation with plasma C‐reactive protein levels, while lymphocyte count showed a negative correlation. Relative neutrophil count was higher, and lymphocyte count lower in patients with pleural effusion; a higher NLR and lower absolute lymphocyte count were observed in those with peritoneal involvement. No correlations were found between peripheral blood neutrophil or lymphocyte counts and size of pericardial effusion, or with the presence of myocardial involvement. Peripheral neutrophilia, lymphopenia and NLR during acute attacks predicted the number of recurrences in the following 12 months. Conclusions: Peripheral blood neutrophilia and lymphopenia are typical of acute idiopathic pericarditis. Acute attacks of pericarditis are associated with neutrophilia and lymphopenia, as compared with disease remission. During acute attacks, neutrophilia and lymphopenia reflect the extent of serosal inflammation and could help to customize therapeutic management after remission has been achieved. Simple Summary: The integration of advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has the potential to enable the improved prediction of the molecular diagnosis of adult-type gliomas. In this context, this study investigated whether deep learning-based predictive models can benefit from adding multi-shell diffusion MRI to conventional MRI. We evaluated the performance of an exemplar deep learning model for differentiating (1) isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutation versus IDH-wildtype; (2) 1p/19q codeletion versus 1p/19q non-codeletion; and (3) IDH-mutation with or without 1p/19q codeletion, and IDH-wildtype. The model achieved the best prediction performance in our cohort of 146 patients in all three tasks when multi-shell diffusion MRI and conventional MRI are combined. These results demonstrate the specific added value provided by advanced diffusion MRI, extending the current literature on building deep learning models based on multiple MRI modalities. The WHO classification since 2016 confirms the importance of integrating molecular diagnosis for prognosis and treatment decisions of adult-type diffuse gliomas. This motivates the development of non-invasive diagnostic methods, in particular MRI, to predict molecular subtypes of gliomas before surgery. At present, this development has been focused on deep-learning (DL)-based predictive models, mainly with conventional MRI (cMRI), despite recent studies suggesting multi-shell diffusion MRI (dMRI) offers complementary information to cMRI for molecular subtyping. The aim of this work is to evaluate the potential benefit of combining cMRI and multi-shell dMRI in DL-based models. A model implemented with deep residual neural networks was chosen as an illustrative example. Using a dataset of 146 patients with gliomas (from grade 2 to 4), the model was trained and evaluated, with nested cross-validation, on pre-operative cMRI, multi-shell dMRI, and a combination of the two for the following classification tasks: (i) IDH-mutation; (ii) 1p/19q-codeletion; and (iii) three molecular subtypes according to WHO 2021. The results from a subset of 100 patients with lower grades gliomas (2 and 3 according to WHO 2016) demonstrated that combining cMRI and multi-shell dMRI enabled the best performance in predicting IDH mutation and 1p/19q codeletion, achieving an accuracy of 75 ± 9% in predicting the IDH-mutation status, higher than using cMRI and multi-shell dMRI separately (both 70 ± 7%). Similar findings were observed for predicting the 1p/19q-codeletion status, with the accuracy from combining cMRI and multi-shell dMRI (72 ± 4%) higher than from each modality used alone (cMRI: 65 ± 6%; multi-shell dMRI: 66 ± 9%). These findings remain when we considered all 146 patients for predicting the IDH status (combined: 81 ± 5% accuracy; cMRI: 74 ± 5%; multi-shell dMRI: 73 ± 6%) and for the diagnosis of the three molecular subtypes according to WHO 2021 (combined: 60 ± 5%; cMRI: 57 ± 8%; multi-shell dMRI: 56 ± 7%). Together, these findings suggest that combining cMRI and multi-shell dMRI can offer higher accuracy than using each modality alone for predicting the IDH and 1p/19q status and in diagnosing the three molecular subtypes with DL-based models. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant activity of red onion peel extract using ultrasound extraction. Antioxidant activity was evaluated using DPPH, inhibition of β-carotene, ABTS and FRAP. The results indicated that the 130 W ultrasound power, in pulsed mode, and with 60% solvent favored flavonoids and total anthocyanins, FRAP and β-carotene. The highest levels of total phenolics were found using 60% solvent, at 130 W, and in continuous extraction mode. This article reveals an unexplored paradox for HR managers: the centrality of an employee in the social network benefits performance but hampers performance appraisal because it affects supervisors' rating errors. Central employees can be erroneously rated high on performance even when they are not high performers because supervisors tend to overappraise their performance. A distinction is made between rating precision, which depends on supervisors' uncertainty regarding employees' performance, and rating accuracy, which depends on supervisors' bias in favor of employees. Employee centrality is posited to be beneficial to precision but deleterious to accuracy because it regulates the diffusion of positive information, status, and power, all of which distort supervisors' capacity and motivation to accurately appraise performance. It is then argued that rating errors caused by network centrality affect aggregate perceptions of justice in organizations. When employees are highly connected to each other in a dense network, organizations have a strong and positive justice climate. Yet when some employees are more central than others in a centralized network, organizations have a negative and weak justice climate. The article contributes to the literature because it identifies an unexplored dark side of network centrality and offers recommendations for HR managers to cope with its deleterious consequences and for scholars to study them. Sabina Spielrein, Helene Deutsch and Karen Horney, pioneer women in psychoanalytical movement, made original contributions to psychoanalysis as a subjective and intersubjective field. Their biographies and main psychoanalytical conceptions are addressed in this article, underscoring the originality of their contributions to the subject of symbolization, primitive experiences and intersubjectivity. Women's mental life, as reviewed, is addressed by the three authoresses from an innovative angle, recognizing specificities of the feminine nature, and questioning classical infantile sexuality models. Besides the traditional conception that the same drives take different paths in female and male psychological structures, the present work underscores the fact that the pioneer psychoanalysts' ideas point to the recognition of the existence of specific feminine drives. Over time, psychoanalytical theory has moved away from the initial phallocentrism and patriarchalism, as discussed, making room, in its therapeutic branch, for historically female attributes: empathy, intuition, primitive interaction, holding and containment. Although the ideas of these writers subsequently supported important theoretical conceptions in psychoanalytical building, they lack due recognition and tribute in contemporary psychoanalytical culture. This article explores the hypothesis that there is a causal relation between historical ostracism and misogyny. Factors within the content of these women's work and in their personal idiosyncrasies combined with prejudice and discrimination that was often disguised as academic disagreement seem to be relevant. Freud and Ferenczi's classical ideas about feminine psyche, built around the conception of penis envy, as well as a universal phenomenon of "repudiation of femininity" are reviewed, contextualized and questioned under a different paradigm: the anxiogenic centrality of the primary object, that is, the feminine figure. The Freudian concept of infantile narcissism is, in this article, reflected upon and expanded in order to integrate the strong ambivalent emotions the primary object potentially builds around itself. Through re-reading the Medusa myth, the author discusses the Thanatic fate of the primitive maternal figure. Persistent desire and the equivalent aversion and claustrophobic panic linked to the fantasy of (re)union with the maternal object underpin the hypothesis this paper poses, that is, matricide as a protofantasy in human mind, with its direct unconscious implications in culture and misogyny. Extra-pulmonary neuroendocrine carcinomas (EPNEC) represent a group of rare and heterogenous neoplasms with adverse clinical outcome. Their molecular profile is largely unexplored. Our aim was to investigate if the major transcriptional drivers recently described in high-grade pulmonary neuroendocrine carcinomas characterize distinct molecular and clinical subgroups of EPNEC. Gene expression of ASCL1, NEUROD1, DLL3, NOTCH1, INSM1, MYCL1, POU2F3, and YAP1 was investigated in a series of 54 EPNEC (including 10 cases with mixed components analyzed separately) and in a group of 48 pulmonary large cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (P-LCNEC). Unsupervised hierarchical cluster analysis classified the whole series into four major clusters. P-LCNEC were classified into two major clusters, the first ASCL1/DLL3/INSM1-high and the second (including four EPNEC) ASCL1/DLL3-low but INSM1-high. The remaining EPNEC cases were sub-classified into two other clusters. The first showed INSM1-high and alternative ASCL1/DLL3 or NEUROD1 high expression. The second was characterized mainly by MYCL1 and YAP1 overexpression. In the ten cases with mixed histology, ASCL1, DLL3, INSM1, and NEUROD1 genes were significantly upregulated in the neuroendocrine component. Higher gene-expression levels of NOTCH1 and INSM1 were associated with lower pT stage and negative nodal status. Low INSM1 gene expression was associated with shorter overall survival in the entire case series (p = 0.0017) and with a trend towards significance in EPNEC, only (p = 0.06). In conclusion, our results show that EPNEC possess distinct neuroendocrine-lineage-specific transcriptional profiles; moreover, low INSM1 gene expression represents a novel potential unfavorable prognostic marker in high-grade NECs including those in extra-pulmonary location. Purpose: This paper aims to build a new bridge between the literature in organizational behavior and the micro-foundations of strategy. The authors elaborate the concept of strategic voice, studying the extent to which employees express their strategic recommendations. Design/methodology/approach: The authors gathered data from employees and supervisors of three distinct organizations, measuring determinants and outcomes of strategic voice, as compared to promotive voice. Findings: Strategic voice is empirically distinct from promotive voice and predicted by opportunity/threat recognition, perceived organizational support and strategic voice opportunity. It has, surprisingly, either positive or negative effects on performance, through the mediation of supervisors' perceptions of strategic voice and the moderation of employee satisfaction with pay and career. Research limitations/implications: Unlike traditionally assumed by strategy research, employees at any level engage in strategic voice with considerable frequency. Yet, paradoxically, under certain conditions, strategic voice could harm individual performance, although potentially benefiting organizations. Managers could either value employees' strategic voice or perceive it negatively, raising the salience to fully comprehend this behavior. Practical implications: Organizations should embrace practices that encourage employees to express their strategic opinions, give them access to resources to properly form their strategic opinions and ensure management considers employees' recommendations. Originality/value: While scholars in the micro-foundations of strategy have theorized that strategy can emerge from the contribution of individuals, there has been no evidence, to date, on how each employee can contribute to strategy formulation. Knowledge about historical changes in sediment fluxes in most coarse‐bedded rivers worldwide is extremely limited. In consideration of this deficiency, we developed a width‐based approach to estimating multi‐decade changes in coarse sediment fluxes occurring at reaches of the Po River and 21 of its tributaries in northern Italy. The estimation was based on temporal variations in the reach‐averaged width of the river's active channel, and such width was expressed through a dimensionless index of coarse bed material load (Iq). The index was determined in two periods: 1954–1998 and 1998–2020. Statistically significant relationships were found between temporal variations in Iq occurring in reaches of the Po River and at key locations of each specific reach (i.e., upstream reaches and tributaries). Such evidence of coherent changes in sediment transfer through space and time led us to conclude that Iq variations can be regarded as a reliable proxy for historical changes in sediment transport in a river reach. The application of the approach to the investigation of the Po River catchment provided new insights into the historical changes characterizing coarse sediment fluxes along the river and its major tributaries. From 1954 to 1998, an average decrease in coarse sediment fluxes of about −20% and −30% occurred along the river and the terminal sectors of its tributaries, respectively. The estimations showed that coarse sediment fluxes exhibited a slightly lower decrease in the last two decades, with sediment flux recovery occurring only in some tributaries. The results suggest that a profound change in sediment dynamics and fluxes has occurred, and is likely still ongoing, in the Po River system, despite the decrease in human disturbances (e.g., in‐channel sediment mining) in more recent times. A comprehensive understanding of river dynamics requires the grain size distribution of bed sediments and its variation across different temporal and spatial scales. Several techniques are already available for grain size assessment based on field and remotely sensed data. However, the existing methods are only applicable on small spatial scales and on short time scales. Thus, the operational measurement of grain size distribution of riverbed sediments at the catchment scale remains an open problem. A solution could be the use of satellite images as the main imaging platform. However, this would entail retrieving information at sub‐pixel scales. In this study, we propose a new approach to retrieve sub‐pixel scale grain size class information from Copernicus Sentinel‐2 imagery building upon a new image‐based grain size mapping procedure. Three Italian gravel‐bed rivers featuring different morphologies were selected for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) acquisitions, field surveys and laboratory analysis meant to serve as ground truth grain size data, ranging from medium sand to coarse gravel. Grain size maps on the river bars were generated in each study site by exploiting image texture measurements, upscaled and co‐registered with Sentinel‐2 data resolution. Relationships between the grain sizes measured and the reflectance values in Sentinel‐2 imagery were analysed using a machine learning framework. Results show statistically significant predictive models (MAE of ±8.34 mm and R2 = 0.92). The trained model was applied on 300 km of the Po River in Italy and allowed us to identify the gravel–sand transition occurring along this river length. Therefore, the approach presented here—based on freely available satellite data calibrated by low‐cost drone‐derived imagery—represents a promising step towards an automated surface mean grain size mapping over long river length, easily repeated through time for monitoring purposes.
