The c. 66 Ma Girnar Complex of the Deccan Traps consists of various mafic to silicic rocks and provides a unique setting for understanding the dynamics of magma chamber processes. The intrusive alkaline rocks in Girnar are diorites/monzodiorites and contain syenite/nepheline syenite veins. Several (alkaline) mafic dykes cut the alkaline rocks. These rocks are surrounded by intrusive tholeiitic gabbro and extrusive basaltic flows and a silicic (SiO2 > 65 wt%) ring dyke at the outer margin of the complex. The tholeiitic gabbro and basaltic lavas have relatively flat light rare earth element (REE) patterns (La/SmN ~ 0.8 to 1.8) with positive Eu anomalies of 1.1–1.3. The tholeiitic basalts formed by 3–5% partial melting of an incompatible element depleted mid-ocean ridge basalts (MORB)-like source. Accumulating c. 20–30% of (olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene, and plagioclase) crystals from the tholeiitic melt generated the tholeiitic gabbro. The alkaline rocks display enriched light REE patterns (La/SmN ~ 5.0 to 7.8) consistent with (~9%) partial melting of a spinel lherzolite source, different from the MORB-like source for tholeiitic rocks. The subsequent 58–72% fractional crystallization of olivine, clinopyroxene, plagioclase, orthoclase, spinel, and apatite mineral assemblage formed the alkaline rocks. Reverse and oscillatory zoning in plagioclase (An30 to An50) phenocrysts of the silicic rocks suggest that convective movement of crystals in a magma chamber led to initial crystallization of high-An plagioclase in the hotter zone of the magma chamber, followed by addition of low-An plagioclase in cooler regions of the magma chamber. Pressure estimates from shattered (xenocryst or antecryst) clinopyroxene crystals in silicic rocks give a minimum value of 450 MPa. Ti-in-quartz geothermometry gives a crystallization temperature between 690°C and 1080°C. The distinct isotopic composition of the silicic rocks (87Sr/86Sri = 0.7204–0.7275, εNd(i) = −6.8 to −7.3, 206Pb/204Pbi = 18.74–19.02, 207Pb/204Pbi = 15.76–15.79, 208Pb/204Pbi = 39.63–40.03, εHf(i) = −6.0 to −7.3) further indicates that the silicic rocks assimilated 7 to 9% granitic basement rocks. Overall, therefore, the Girnar Complex started to form with the emplacement of mafic rocks (both alkaline and tholeiitic) in the central part along a reactivated fault lineament and silicic rocks along the concentric marginal fault. Petrography, mineral chemistry, and whole-rock geochemical and Sr-Nd-Pb-Hf isotope ratios of the Girnar Complex rocks indicate that despite the close spatial association of tholeiitic gabbro and basalt, alkaline rocks, and silicic rocks, these rocks originated from multiple sources and evolved in a complex magma drainage and storage network in a continental setting of the Deccan Large Igneous Province (LIP). In this study, we identified and characterize a plant pathogenic isolate, collected from naturally infested bean (Phaseolus vulgaris var. Anupama) seedlings presenting root rot symptoms from an agricultural land of the Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, India. Based on morphological features, growth characteristics and the ITS sequencing‐based molecular data, the isolate was assumed very closed to the species of the Pythium genera. However, ITS sequencing data and the BLAST results for gene annotation clustered the identified isolate more closely to the Pythium catenulatum (p‐value e‐value), and therefore, confirmed as P. catenulatum. The pathogenicity assay confirmed the role of the isolate as a root rot causing pathogen. Furthermore, the isolate was tested for its growth under in‐vitro conditions against several environmental parameters including temperature, pH, salt, drought and metals. The Biolog FF MicroPlate method assessed the carbon utilization profile and reported the ability of the isolate in utilizing both carbohydrates and amino acids as a primary energy source. Moreover, in‐vitro colony growth inhibition assay performed with different agrochemicals (fungicides and insecticides) and the dyes determined their efficacy in suppressing the growth and development of the isolated pathogen. The dual culture assay of the isolate along with several fungal and bacterial strains confirmed the antagonistic potential of some tested microbes in delimiting the growth of the pathogen. We collected data from 89 international counselling students across the U.S. to test the role of counselling-related coursework, clinical experience, anxiety, and acculturation in predicting counselling self-efficacy among the students. Results from participants representing 34 countries across five continents revealed that counselling-related coursework, clinical experience, and acculturation significantly predicted counselling self-efficacy while anxiety was a nonsignificant predictor. A new carbonatite body has been discovered from Gundlupet area, western Dharwar craton, southern India which is located at juncture of major shear zones namely, Kollegal shear zone to the east, Sargur shear zone to the west and Moyar shear zone to the south. The carbonatite and associated syenite have intruded into the peninsular gneissic complex. The southern margin of the syenite has a tectonic contact with the peninsular gneissic complex suggesting their emplacement is related to the splay shear of Moyar shear zone. The Gundlupet carbonatite is dominantly sövite with minor beforsite and iron rich carbonatite which are associated with phenocrystic magnetite, apatite, amphibole, pyroxene and monazite. Fenitisation is observed in local scale along the contact of carbonatite and syenite where metasomatic alterations took place to give rise to alkali amphibole and pyroxene rich rock. Geochemically, the carbonatite is characterised by high CaO content (48.86%–51.80%), P2O5 (0.35%–3.23%) and low SiO2 (3.09%–5.30%). The high Sr (5750–13445 ppm) content and low Ni, Cr, Zn and Cu content indicates that the melt has undergone some degree of fractionation before crystallization. A new blue whale song-type described for the Arabian Sea and Western Indian Ocean. A comparison of sounds attributed to pygmy blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus brevicauda) recorded south of the Madagascar Plateau and those attributed to "true" blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus) recorded off Antarctica. Any occupation requires a certain set of competencies at a given employment level. Although in the construction industry the competency requirements for mid- and upper-level employees are very well defined, such clear definitions at the workers' level are missing. Literature suggests that along with practical skills, workers require additional socioemotional, cognitive, and technical competencies to perform their work efficiently. Therefore, through a nationwide survey of 598 industrial professionals in India, 6, 9, and 13 competencies were identified for unskilled, semiskilled, and skilled categories of workers, respectively. These competencies included attitude, motivation, and physical strength for unskilled workers; self-confidence and technical knowledge for semiskilled workers; and writing, reading, mathematical, and problem-solving skills for skilled workers. These results will have threefold implications. First, they will assist training providers designing an effective worker training program. Second, they will help the development of a career progression path for the workers. Third, if the identified competencies are considered in workers' categorization process, then the latter will become more robust than the existing one, in which only practical skills are considered. In many emerging economies, callers may abandon ambulance requests due to a combination of operational (small fleet size), infrastructural (long travel times) and behavioral factors (low trust in the ambulance system). As a result, ambulance capacity, which is already scarce, is wasted in serving calls that are likely to be abandoned later. In this article, we investigate the design of an ambulance system in the presence of abandonment behavior, using a two-step approach. First, because the callers' actual willingness to wait for ambulances is censored, we adopt a Maximum Likelihood Estimator estimation approach suitable for interval censored data. Second, we employ a simulation-based optimization approach to explicitly incorporate customers' willingness to wait in: (i) tactical short-term decisions such as modification of dispatch policies and ambulance allocations at existing base locations; and (ii) strategic long-term network design decisions of increasing fleet size and re-designing base locations. We calibrate our models using data from a major metropolitan city in India where historically 81.3% of calls were successfully served without being abandoned. We find that modifying dispatch policies or reallocating ambulances provide relatively small gains in successfully served calls (around 1%). By contrast, increasing fleet size and network re-design can more significantly increase the fraction of successfully served calls with the latter being particularly more effective. Redesigning bases with the current fleet size is equivalent to increasing the fleet size by 8.6% at current base locations. Similarly, adding 29% more ambulances and redesigning the base locations is equivalent to doubling the fleet size at the current base locations and adding 34% more ambulances and redesigning base locations is equivalent to a three-fold increase. Our results indicate that in the absence of changes in behavioral factors, significant investment is required to modify operational factors by increasing fleet size, and to modify infrastructural factors by redesigning base locations. Wind Farm Layout Optimization Problem (WFLOP) is a critical issue when installing a large wind farm. Many studies have focused on the WFLOP but only for a limited number of turbines and idealized wind speed distributions. In this study, we apply the Genetic Algorithm (GA) to solve the WFLOP for large hypothetical offshore wind farms using real wind data. GA mimics the natural selection process observed in nature, which is the survival of the fittest. The study site is the Palk Strait, located between India and Sri Lanka. This site is a potential hotspot of offshore wind in India. A modified Jensen wake model is used to calculate the wake losses. GA is used to produce optimal layouts for four different wind farms at the specified site. We use two different optimization approaches: one where the number of turbines is kept the same as the thumb rule layout and another where the number of turbines is allowed to vary. The results show that layout optimization leads to large improvements in power generation (up to 28 %), efficiency (up to 34 %), and cost (up to 25 %) compared to the thumb rule due to the reduction in wake losses. Optimized layouts where both the number and locations of turbines are allowed to vary produce better results in terms of efficiency and cost but also leads to lower installed capacity and power generation. Wind energy is growing at an unprecedented rate in India. Easily accessible terrestrial wind resources are almost saturated, and offshore wind is the new frontier. Voluntary disclosures by firms have been gaining traction among the stakeholders as the inadequacies of mandatorily disclosed information are getting conspicuous. The customers are one of the most important stakeholder groups for any firm. This paper looks at how the extent and quality of voluntary disclosures by the supplier firms influence the impression that is formed in the minds of the users/buyers in the customer firms is manifested through the strength of the supplier brand. Consequently, we probe the effect voluntary disclosures have on corporate brand equity. This study has assessed the corporate brand equity of the firms directly from their customers which lends authenticity to the measured strength of the brand. This way the self-reporting bias is precluded from our research. The study was done on Indian B2B firms which is very crucial because business buyers pay more critical attention to the disclosures of their vendors. Studies based on upwelling indices (sediment records, sea-surface temperature and wind) suggest that upwelling along the western coast of Arabian Sea is strongly affected by the Indian summer monsoon (ISM). In order to examine this relationship directly, we employ the vertical water mass transport produced by the eddy-resolving global ocean simulation STORM driven by meteorological reanalysis over the last 61 years. With its very high spatial resolution (10 km), STORM allows us to identify characteristics of the upwelling system. We analyze the co-variability between upwelling and meteorological and oceanic variables from 1950 to 2010. The analyses reveal high interannual correlations between coastal upwelling and along-shore wind-stress (r = 0.73) as well as with sea-surface temperature (r = -0.83). However, the correlation between the upwelling and the ISM is small and other factors might contribute to the upwelling variability. This study examines the process of dyadic coping among couples who are managing stress related to a partner's breast cancer diagnosis and identifies cultural factors that affect how couples cope together. Utilizing a qualitative method based on relational psychologies, the “Listening Guide,” the authors analyzed the narratives of 28 couples who where coping with early-stage breast cancer and lived in Hong Kong-China, India, and the United States. Analysis revealed four cultural factors influencing the process of coping with breast cancer. These factors included (1) family boundaries, (2) gender roles, (3) personal control, and (4) interdependence. Some couples were able to transcend prevailing cultural norms to re-establish balance in their lives and adapt to the cancer. Background: Over the past decade there have been rapid advances in psychiatry genetics and there is a growing concern about the clinical and practical relevance of this knowledge. Efforts are being made to know the perspectives of patients and family members regarding family risk and genetic counselling. However, the area remains largely unexplored in psychiatric research from Asian countries. Aim: The primary purpose of the study was to explore the perceptions related to family risk among Indian patients with bipolar disorder and their family members. The study also aimed to explore the related perceptions for etiology of bipolar disorder. Method: Patients with bipolar disorder type I and family members of patients with bipolar disorder type I were invited to take part in in-depth interviews after informed consent, targeting a sample of diversity. The qualitative data were analysed using thematic analysis. Results: Eight key themes emerged: (1) higher emphasis on external or situational causes; (2) causal explanations are governed by cultural beliefs; (3) help-seeking is a shared, rather than a personal, decision; (4) the perceived genetic risk is low but worrisome; (5) worries and apprehensions are focused mainly on future generations; (6) there is a desire to modify the perceived genetic risk; (7) knowledge of precise risk can be beneficial as well as anxiety provoking; and (8) there is a need for information on preventive measures. Conclusion: The study provides culture-specific perspectives on the causation of illness and explores a sensitive and personal matter of perceived family risk in an Indian sample. A suite of calc-alkaline arc rocks in the Pangong Metamorphic Complex in the Karakoram Shear Zone, Ladakh, NW India, was migmatized at upper amphibolite facies under water-fluxed conditions. Meta- and diatexites contain abundant hornblende in both leucosome and melanosome. These form idiomorphic, poikilitic megacrysts in the leucosome and in melanosome rims around leucosomes. Hornblende chemistry, particularly its rare earth element (REE) pattern, is highly variable in protoliths and neosomes, and in most cases the REE contents do not reflect hornblende partition coefficients reported in the literature. These variations are the result of the complex crystallization histories of the migmatites. REE variations in whole-rock diatexites and leucogranites demonstrate the role of hornblende in controlling the REE budget. Formation of heavy REE (HREE)-enriched hornblende and its accumulation in the source results in leucogranitic magmas with high Lan/Ybn and Sr/Y values typical of adakites. We show that leucogranitic magmas, depleted in HREE, can be generated by water-fluxed partial melting of arc-related rocks in the mid-crust without requiring garnet retention in the source. As the Law Commission welcomes suggestions for the 11th Programme of Law Reform, this article argues that the criminal law is an ideal candidate for reform and explores the potential for the implementation of a criminal code in England and Wales. While numerous obstacles exist to impede codification efforts, namely institutional and professional hostility, claims that a criminal code's theoretical foundations are incompatible with England's common law sympathies, and the current trend towards stop-gap legislation, the author nevertheless argues that a criminal code is necessary in order to rectify the substantial lacunae in the fundamental relationship between the individual and the state. The article sets out the case for a criminal code and examines reasons of failed attempts at codification, which was once at the forefront of the Law Commission's reform agenda. Endeavours such as Bentham's Utilitarianism, Macaulay's efforts in India and the 19th century Law Commissioners are scrutinised in an attempt to divine the likelihood of codification and conditions for success. German criminal law is endorsed as a source of inspiration in the search for a coherent and efficient code and the author submits that with the support of the judiciary, Parliament, government and legal scholarship, criminal codification is attainable. Captive nonhuman animals use enclosure space differentially. Enclosure features strongly influence this. This study recorded both the enclosure space used by 47 captive lion-tailed macaques housed in 13 zoos across India and the behavior of the macaques. The exhibition of abnormal behaviors, food-related behaviors, and social interactions correlated significantly with the use of the edge zone (the part of the enclosure closest to the visitor area). Animals housed in barren enclosures used the edge zone to a significantly greater percentage than did those housed in complex exhibits. Percentages of autogrooming, social interactions, and food-related behaviors significantly correlated with the use of the enrich zone. Space use studies assist in recognizing areas within the enclosure, which captive animals actively use. Conversely, the studies can identify areas infrequently used and show how to make maximum use of these enclosure areas. Further studies targeting both the increase in percentages of natural behaviors exhibited and use of the enrich zone used the current study on captive lion-tailed macaques for their design. In the Vizianagaram area (E 83°29.442′; N 18°5.418′) of the Eastern Ghats Belt, India, a suite of graphite-bearing calc-silicate granulites, veined by syenitic rocks, developed wollastonite-rich veins at 6–7 kbar and > 850 °C. During subsequent near-isobaric cooling wollastonite was replaced by calcite + quartz and a graphic intergrowth of fluorite + quartz ± clinopyroxene. Titanite with variable Al and F contents is present throughout the rock. Combining the compositional variation of titanite and recent experimental data, it is demonstrated that the mineral assemblage, the composition of coexisting fluids and the mobility of Al exert a far greater control on the composition of titanite than pressure, temperature or the whole rock composition. Thermodynamically computed isothermal–isobaric log fO2– log fCO2 and log fF2– log fO2 grids in the systems Ca–Fe–Si–O–F (CISOF; calcite-free) and Ca–Fe–Si–O–F–C–H (CISOFV; calcite-present) demonstrate the influence of bulk rock and fluid compositions on the stability of the fluorite-bearing assemblages in diverse geological environments and resolve the problem of the stability of titanite in fayalite + fluorite-bearing rocks in the Adirondacks. The mineralogy of the studied rocks and the topological constraints tightly fix the log fO2, log fF2 and log fCO2 at −15.8, −30.6 and 4.1, respectively, at 6.5 kbar and c. 730 °C. Because of the similarity in the P–T conditions, the compositions of pore fluids in the fluorite-bearing assemblages of the Adirondacks and the Eastern Ghats Belt have been compared.
